A post-war view of the Marton Tram Depot on Whitegate Drive in Marton. Today a Tesco petrol station sits on the site but the properties next door are still easily recognisable.

LT trams, MET 130 (LT 2466) & LT 2427 (MET 95) by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old photograph taken at Hendon Depot in 1934 of London Transport (LT) trams No. 130 and No. 2427, showing '66 - Canons Park' and '66 - Edgware' destination blinds respectively. It would appear this only being the year after London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) took over local tramways companies that the renumbering of trams had not finished. The rear tram is showing it's new LT number, but the front tram still shows it's old Metropolitan Electric Tramways (MET) number. The photo reverse is annotated with "type A, Hendon Depot, 1934", and stamped with the photographer and/or negative owner name of D. W. K. Jones. Both were MET 'A' class open top unvestibuled cars built in 1904 by Brush seating 32/38, each ran on a pair of Brush BB maximum traction bogies. They had top covers fitted in 1928/9, one source says they were 'reconstructed' at this time but I cannot find that mentioned elsewhere. Their ownership changed from MET to the LPTB in 1933, No. 130 was renumbered as LT No. 2466 (still showing its old number in this photo), and No. 95 being renumbered as LT No. 2427. No. 2466 was withdrawn Dec 1935 and No. 2427 in Jan 1936, both were disposed of (broken up or sold) at the LT Hampstead Depot. The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jul 1952. If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------

November 16th 1956 the last tram (for many years) ran in Edinburgh.
From November 6th 1871 for over 85 years the trams were a mainstay in Edinburgh, with the introduction of buses on many routes in the 40's and 50's it was inevitable, their demise started in 1953 with the first of their decommissioning taking three years.
Over a hundred thousand people turned out along the way to watch the last tram travel from the Braids, the three trams, the first one decorated, and a restored horsebox made their way to a ceremony at the Foot of the Mound on the evening of Friday 16th November 1956.
They then made their final journey to Shrubhill depot, passing through the crowds watching from Princes Street, St Andrew Square, York Place and Leith Walk. The current for the tramway system was finally switched off at 9.40 pm bringing to an end half a century of Edinburgh trams.

There's something magical about that thing of the sunset at its best in mundane settings. This was the Malvern tram depot, with a mess of tram lines tangling in it. All along our ride, people were craning to try and get a shot as we crossed East-West streets and got a good view of it. People were stopped on street corners to enjoy it. Beauty had come to us and we were entranced.

The aftermath of a Tram accident, Thursday 18th April 1946. An early morning "Workman's" Tram gathered speed down Grand Depot Road following a brake failure and derailed at a crossover and plunged into the Co-op in Woolwich New Road. Four people received minor injuries.
The Workman's Tram was introduced by the London County Council when that body ran the most of London's Trams. They were early morning Trams which catered for factory workers at cheaper fare rates. It was also designed to encourage workers to move out of the inner city to the suburbs where social and private development was increasing.

Found slide: Some of nipaluna Hobart’s single deck bogie saloons, including number 105, stabled beside Moonah tram depot not long after the Second World War, since the cars still have white bumpers from the ‘brown out’ days (photographer unknown)

The Last Post Pub Longton
Interesting building, which is connected to the last post pub longton, by a connection structure.
I am guessing at one time or other that this was built for another purpose, such as a fire station, tram depot or statables for horse-drawn mail vehicles, as the pub it is connected to is called the last post.
The main part of the pub was once the post office, so with this in mind, the idea that the building pictured below was part of the post office or statables for mail horses could be the more plausible use of the building.

Smell of Aging Journey
My grandmother had a distinct scent. Just exactly how grandmothers normally smell - like Indulona ointment and something ancient.
The old lady who sat in front of me on the bus could, practically speaking, smell just like my grandmother, but in her case, it wasn’t a pleasant fragrance. The smell of the elderly lady wasn’t filled with nostalgia, but rather the terrifying awareness that one day I will smell like that too. Yet, the poor woman is evidently trying to stay fashionable - she looks quite chic in her stylish hat and coat - but not even a perfume reminiscent of the First Republic can hide the smell of old age that surrounds her.
The main thing is to distract myself so that I don't focus too much on the unfortunate old woman, but pretending that there’s something incredibly interesting outside the window is all the harder when there’s nothing like that out there. The first part of the bus ride runs alongside a vehicle depot, enclosed by a high fence topped with barbed wire. Crows hop around the ugly building of the depot. Some are quite pretty, with shiny beaks in an elegant feather suit - others have feathers sticking out of their wings as if they were run over by a tram. Their beaks are crooked and they seem somehow bigger. I feel like a prisoner being transported somewhere, but no one wants to tell me where.
Finally, almost to my surprise, the bus stops, which the bus’s loudspeaker duly announces. Stepping out of public transport is always a bit of a relief; today, it feels like redemption.
