As much as I love them, I don't think they're end game. I think they both need someone else to balance them out.

The tables turn when they're out on a job and Victor calls him something like snookie pookie. Victor uses Runt when he's semi serious. Logan is serious. Jimmy is dead serious. James is probably reserved for those rarely seen quiet moments when Logan's in trouble and Victor's trying not to seem panicked like James, knock it off.

reading more of anne lister’s actual diaries and wow. she truly loves mariana for her entire life. i often wonder if she thought about ever leaving ann for mariana, when their marriage got unhappier, if she could have convinced mariana to run away from charles with her.

8x06 spoilers
1. Dany truly deserved better. I am and have always been on board for villian protag Dany (and I mean, I called that shit in ACOK), and ngl, villain Dany is the only way I can even like her--if they played her straight as a hero, she's a gross white savior of a trope and I can't DEAL with that, I didn't engage with Dany as a character for years because of that. 
But she was barely even in this ep and I feel like we lost her pov and instead we were looking at her from everyone's else perspective...I love villian Dany and I can see Dany deciding to conquer other places as well, like, that's all she's rly good at at the end of the day but I just...didn't really like this. I wish we got like at least a whole season to let full dark, no stars Dany really breathe. 
i wanted them to linger more on the tragedy of Dany, finally getting her goal but over a thousand corpses and at the cost of her own morals. This is the goal she's fought for since the start of the series. I think we deserved more than what we got. Dany's story is a tragedy but it needs to be tragic from her perspective too. Maybe this is just what I want and not what's necessary the best narrative choice but I really wanted a moment of Dany legit either sadness or remorse before deciding this is what she's going to do and this is what she's going to be from now on. Some mourning for the person she thought she wanted to be. 
ASOIAF is supposed to be about morally gray people making morally gray decisions, people who aren't really bad, making terrible decisions and being at a cross purpose. I think ideally I wanted was for Dany to try ruling for a bit before realizing this isn't actually what she really wants, and/or then try to execute Sansa for treason and that's why Jon kills her. I rather have Jon torn between his sister-cousin and his aunt-lover for legit reasons rather than just trying to rush Dany through her villian arc. 
I don't think the writers hate Dany though....I think they did rly poorly by her and by Emilia Clarke but this was a product of them speeding through to the end of the show. I think D&D just rly rly wanted to make their star wars movie and rushed everything here even though they were offered more episodes and money and seasons, so they can just be done with this ten year project. Everyone's characterizations really suffered this season, though I would argue the writing has been bad for YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS and people just noticed when they were not getting the ending they wanted, but whatever whatever
2. man I rly hate how half this ep is just ~~~~reasonable men talking about what to do with Dany. Even if Dany does deserve to die for what she's done, just.the optics. ugh. 
Jon killing Dany is so...thanks, I hate it! I mean any time a dude has to kill a lady and the focus is on how sad he is for having to kill her I just. I'm tired. I don't care!
3. that said, I've loved Jon for a long time and I can't help but be glad he's North of the wall once again. Tbh this is my ideal ending for Jon, because I never wanted him to be part of Southern politics, he never wanted that and lbr he's not built for that, and him with all the widlings at the end legit made me weepy. 
4. Also, wow I really really relate to Jon's conflict avoidance 
5. Man, Jon fully expected Drogon to kill him and was gonna let him do it, he was rly willing to die there next to Dany for what he did and I don't...understand why Dorgon didn't kill him. HE KILLED YOUR MOM! MURDER HIM! Is Drogon smart enough to realize the iron throne killed Dany and is the cause all these problems, not Jon. WHAT. I don't understand!
6. I am fully on board with king bran tbh, LONG MAY HE TROLL. There's gonna be several future meetings where Bran just wargs in the middle of it because he's bored.
7. I can't believe Tyrion survived this whole mess.
8. I can't believe BRONN survive, AND NOW HE'S LORD OF HIGHGARDEN, the cockroach of Westeros, truly. Olenna is spinning in her grave.
9. I am truly fucking happy that at least one person of color survived this whole mess. what a low fucking bar. Go to naath and retire, grey worm, you've earned it.
10. SANSA IS QUEEN OF THE NORTH.  God when I was in this fandom years ago, everyone kept saying it over and over and it was just a thing we said, I never actually THOUGHT I'D LIVE TO SEE IT. LONG MAY SHE REIGN. I have endured so much shit being a Sansa stan and HERE WE ARE WINNING. I'm so so so happy.
11. Is the Red Keep ALREADY rebuilt? Where is the council meeting at the end?
12. Man, we are really never going to see Meera again, are we?
13. JON/TORMUND IS ENDGAME I CALLED IT WEEKS AGO
idk.half this ep felt like a JOKE. I can't actually take anything seriously enough to be mad about it. I haven't taken this show seriously in years. I do like the ending and how open ended it is--like its kinda perf for all kinds of fanfic. Arya can always go home again! Sansa can visit Jon and visa versa. The shenanigans at King's Landing continue. You can even argue Dany isn't even dead, Drogon flew her away and dropped her in the Lazarus pit. It's just kinda nice for me, as a fanfic reader and writer, because there's so much room for more now after the fact, instead of any kind of finality of ending.

Yaws Personal Reflection on Touken
When I first watched/really read Tokyo ghoul, although I shipped Touken to get together eventually by some point; I didn't really understand why they fall so hard for each other at first. Upon looking back however, a lot of that could be attributed to the very nature of both characters. Touka (read here for my reflection on her) with a harsh/lashing out and violent exterior due to the violent past in which she grew up in as a ghoul, whilst still having a gentle interior and being selfless in most cases wanting to help others even whilst getting herself hurt.
Kaneki with a gentle exterior, yet a violent interior due to his own past and misgivings that we all know of as a human and being selfish in wanting to be needed by others and unconsciously hurting others by trying to burden everything upon himself and not fully rely on others.
I've noticed how Ishida likes portraying the values of Yin and Yang between the two (depicting them as polar opposites attracting and being complementary/interconnected/interdependent with some similarities as well, he did explicitly say they are characters of a set after all when he came up with them). Passive/ Active. Strong/Weak. Black/White. Direct/Indirect. Selfish/Selfless. Human/Ghoul. Harsh/Kind.

These terms aren't purely static stances but rather semblances of self that each saw/admired/invoked in the other, both positive and negative.
Kaneki said human relationships are like chemical reactions, if you have a reaction, you can't return back to your previous state of being.
Touka was there and saved Kaneki numerous times in Part 1 when he desperately needed someone the most aside from Hide and the others, while Kaneki also saved her several times.

What I love is the evolution of their feelings and relationship that started out pretty horribly with both seeing each other in a negative light as human (living a good peaceful life) and ghoul (being an evil killing monster).

The fact that a human becoming a half ghoul developed to be able to care and fall in love with a full ghoul that hated herself, the world, struggled working and living life as a human and ghoul is really phenomenal narratively speaking. Kaneki saw past all of Touka's violent exterior anger issues and looked at the gentle interior she possessed when it comes to how much she cares about people other than herself, even as a murderer. “If you died Touka-chan, I'd probably be sad”.

That line is so simple, yet for Touka it created a lasting impression since no one in her life really in viewed that kind value upon her, also count in her abandonment issues in always being left alone (Hikari, Arata, Ayato, later the Anteiku crew at the end of part 1).
Even if she had the Anteiku crew, no one truly gave that emphatic value about her life having importance and worth as a ghoul trying to LIVE in the human world amongst all the killing and violent predicaments of murder in the world, not even her uncle Renji or old man Yoshimura, even though they did look out for her. Meanwhile for Kaneki he felt like he belonged somewhere, again his most desperate desire. He felt needed as their friendship grew in training, fighting and working together, he wasn't alone anymore.
Even after getting separated after the Aogiri arc (about 6 months) and the Re time skip (about 3 years) you could always notice the subtle mentions of how much both thought of each other, Touka wanting to see him again and especially from Kaneki’s perspective even after each personality change in always mentioning Touka and Hide separately from every other important person in his life.
All personalities have mentioned her separately from everyone else (yes even centipede), “The others, Touka-chan and Hide”.
Even with the infamous bridge scene in part 1, Hide entrusted and helped Touka to expose Kaneki. And she did, however she unfortunately fell back on her violent anger issues and communication problems in truly conveying what she felt to Kaneki due to what can be seen as her fury at him being just like Arata and even Ayato to an extent. Kaneki promised never to leave her, yet he lied and left her to become stronger and shoulder all the burdens of everyone by himself in some tragic hero manner. Yet this time Kaneki genuinely believed his own lies, wanting to sacrifice himself to protect others when he said he wouldn't leave them.
However, unknown to Touka at that time, that encounter made Kaneki want to go back to Anteiku. “Touka, can I come back?”.
Haise sees her after 3 years at the second Anteiku home “Re” and cries after seeing that Touka was still alive after all this time and the encounter is titled “Inherited feelings”. Not for the person he knew the most in terms of time span, but for the beautiful person that created such a huge impression on him at the most vulnerable periods of his life after becoming a half ghoul and not having a true grasp on both worlds and companionship.

Is it unrealistic that Touka waited over 3 years for him and still had feelings only for him? “Even if time has passed, even if our bodies have changed, even if he had forgotten me completely... As long as he comes back home, things will be alright”.
Mostly yes for the majority but not strictly no… I view everything as not strictly one way with this; the main thing is about deep impressions that both instilled in each other, kinda like Star Crossed lovers, “I have faith in him, he will return”.
Touka was even willing to prioritize Kaneki’s own happiness and well being over hers as Haise in not forcing him to come back, but waiting for him come back of his own free will, even with all the new relationships Haise/Kaneki developed with other characters like the Qs family.
Time, change and distance never stopped them from still yearning to see the other, even amongst them both living different lives with different people and settings in part 2 of Re, most notably Haise/Kaneki with the Qs, CCG, Juuzou, Akira, Arima, Eto etc. Haise often visited Re just to look at her like he did with Rize even with his suppressed memories, even at times wondering what that girl(Touka) was up to. “I wonder what that person is doing today, on a date maybe?”.
Fast forward later to Touka also wondering about what Kaneki was up to in their 121-122 conversation... “Are you a virgin?”.
Black Reaper, the most savage,harsh and suicidal personality even changed his whole stance on dying simply upon looking at Touka in Cochlea.

This was also reinforced by Arimas threats in killing his ghoul friends, and the Hide inner dialogue about eventually finding a reason to live. I viewed this as a reverse of “If you died, I'd be sad” from part 1, both were scared at the very thought of the other dying. This time Touka is the gentle and kind exterior, Kaneki the violent harsh exterior not caring about his own life until someone reminded him the value of his life and the people that still care about that life. “Your life has MEANING, to us and to ME” type of thing, and as ghouls, they are hardly given any true instances of happiness, care and love that lasts before meeting a tragic end, some fuckery or death due to the harsh nature of the world.
The fact that they got together so quickly and yes rushed, after losing cafe Re and both feeling lonely and taking comfort in each other in 125 I found really emotional.
Touka asking Kaneki “Why are you crying?” was such a sweet gesture when you remember Haise crying when he first saw her in Re, but also how Kaneki felt that he was always beat a lot by the people he loved the most. And yet he was able to fully expose himself and have an extremely intimate moment with the woman that he's in love with, and to find out that she also loves him back and didn't hurt him at all this time.

Additionally was finding out that Kaneki  was “dying” and how quickly they married after finding out about Touka’s pregnancy and her even CHOOSING Kaneki and their child over saving her best friend Yoriko (one of Kaneki's biggest flaws in choosing), for me only reaffirmed how desperate and strong each others feelings were for each other. Touka chose a life with Kaneki, something he wanted his mother to do… Choose him.
It's kinda like... “We lost each other before so many times, let's just confirm everything while we're still alive (The marriage bite mark and ring) because who knows when we'll lose these moments and our time together,” especially at how unforgiving shit can be with most TG relationships (AKA Eto’s parents Ukina and Kuzen, Touka’s parents Arata and Hikari and so forth).

Their love is flawed, rushed and has several problems yes with the time development and communication issues in execution... (I truly wish Ishida gave Touka more screen time and development in most of Re although she has developed and changed from Part 1 in her own way); but they are still growing and learning, nothings ever perfect. In fact even with that time discrepancy and change, its one of those relationships that's so genuine and loyal AF to me. Both can see the dark horror in each other, yet still love each other regardless and show genuine care to go through such lengths to make sure the other is okay in a world where such a thing for ghouls and humans is extremely rare.  Especially during all the fuckery in the previous Underground and Dragon arcs. ALL of the Kaneki personalities agreed to literally kill and eat the Oggai children along with humans and ghouls (becoming a monster) just to see Touka again in fear of her death and hopefully to name his kid one day, repeatedly chanting her name over and over.

Touka played a prominent role and went out to save her husband with the CCG, Hide, hell even the Qs... incurring so much damn physical damage via all the fighting and all the mental/emotional stress concurred spanning days to weeks whilst fucking PREGNANT, starving herself with human food, and weakened as a ghoul.
Again, love is complicated, and it's not exactly “healthy” per say from that point of view… I'd say these two need some damn marriage counseling or some shit😂, but it is MUTUALLY genuine given the fucked up circumstances. (I'm also glad it didn't fall under the common anime/manga trope of “Will they? Won't they? shipping game that stalls for time... Just do it! Especially when TG isn't a romance manga, although it has romantic elements)
Personally for me, Touken represents an overall symbol of coexistence and hope for humans and ghouls (the positive core message of TG, even though yes I know it's not the main focal point outside all the story fuckery as a whole). It illustrates breaking past the species barrier of mutual understanding along with other ships to a degree like Ukina x Kuzen, Nishiki x Kimi etc; and I find it beautiful that Kaneki finally has a tangible reason to LIVE, with his Best Waifu Touka… And now also his Best Bro Hide and everyone else.

ROAD TO THE OSCAR MAYER WIENER AWARDS 2K19

well shit the oscars is only a week away!!!  and ive only seen like half of the movies i wanted to see!!!  how does this keep happening to me!!!!!!!!!!!
ok well no use crying over spilled milk im just gonna have to go on a massive movie-watching spree this week and try and consume as many films as possible, and in the meantime lets talk about the movie i saw last night.  this is probably the first year ive seen more than one movie in the foreign language film oscar category, mainly just because the foreign language films are typically harder to find unless a local movie theater happens to be playing them as part of an oscars season special event or something.  but now that two of our nominees this year have american distributors it makes watching them a lot easier. 
going into Cold War i had absolutely no idea what it was about except that its set in Poland during the, well, Cold War.  the trailers for this movie didnt really reveal much about the plot or characters, which honestly i kinda prefer with trailers.  sometimes they just give away waaaayyy too much and then whats the point of going to see the movie??  i did know beforehand that its a romance so i at least had that expectation.
and well yeah its a romance all right!!  its a very romeo and juliet star-crossed lovers kinda situation where a student who gets accepted into a state-run polish music academy becomes close with one of the instructors and they fall in love, however life circumstances keep pulling them away from each other over and over again.  the movie spans over a timeline of about a decade and a half, and in this time the two of them find other lovers, get married, travel from country to country, but always end up managing to find each other before theyre separated again by circumstances that usually involve the polish communist state.  so basically communism is a total cock block. 
acting in this movie is overall very solid with not really a weak link in the bunch, except for maybe tomasz kot who played wiktor cause he just felt a lil stiff to me.  however joanna kulig steals the fuckin show for me as zula, shes utterly captivating on screen and really takes advantage of all of the close-up shots of her face throughout this film.  it also helps that shes given a fantastic character to play in zula, shes a spitfire and strong-willed and will not take any mans bullshit but near the end of the film you do get to see her struggle as well.  the shit she has to put up with gets very harrowing at times and u do feel for her
and wiktor goes through his fair share of shitty situations as well, i mean damn he ends up in jail when he goes back to poland for zula and they mangle his hands so badly he’ll never be able to play piano again which was his livelihood.  its pretty tragic how these two people are just like little puppets for the communist state to toss around and play with to their hearts content until theyre both almost destroyed.  and really the whole underlying backdrop of communist poland is really what elevates this story from being just another romeo and juliet clone to something a little more profound. 
ill come back to the story in a bit cause there are a few things i took issue with but i wanna take a moment to praise the music in this film cause holy SHIT its so good.  im honestly really surprised it didnt get any music-related noms cause the music was probably my favorite part of Cold War.  the beginning is full of polish folk music with a full womens choir that sounds just delightful, and then we transition into classic jazz when our lovers end up in paris together in the early 1950′s, and then some american classic rock n’ roll music is thrown into the mix in a few scenes, and then at the end we have a performace thats like a weird polish version of mariachi music??  such a wide and complex musical palette that ebbs and flows with the story, and we also get to see performers doing their thing which is just the icing on the cake. 
so the movie sounds fantastic, and i mean i gotta say it looks fantastic too!  like Roma, Cold War is shot in black and white, which definitely fits the time period its set in and fits especially well with the jazz scenes.  we get a lot of close-up shots of peoples faces, but theyre balanced out well with wide shots that tend to put the focal points in the bottom third of the screen which i thought was an interesting touch.  gave it a very art house feel.  from what i could tell there were mostly still shots except for a few dance scenes, which kept the movie very grounded and kinda added a sense of realism.
so i think thats all the good shit i have to say and i wanna touch on the ending for the last part of this review, cause to be frank, this movie ended so abruptly it gave me whiplash.  i was going into this film expecting it to be like 2 hours long but the run time clocks in at just under an hour and thirty minutes.  usually this isnt a bad thing at all especially for quieter movies like this that take their time, but in this case it couldve used AT LEAST another ten to twenty minutes.  so wiktor is let out of prison early because his commie friend pulled some strings (probably due to zulas insistence) and we find out that zula has married this commie state official and had a kid with him.  and she now works as a performer (probably working for the state like she did when she was with the music academy) singing weird polish mariachi music.  shes clearly drunk off her ass when she sees that wiktor is out, runs to the bathroom to puke, and then he finds her in there and they decide to run away together again.  but its implied that this time its more of an uuhhh permanent escape.  like, PERMANENT permanent.  like no-longer-living permanent.  and this is the point of the movie where im like “oh god really theyre gonna keep THIS part of the romeo and juliet story they really think thats a good idea”
and then the next scene we see them going to an abandoned run-down church that was shown in the beginning of the movie, and they both have what looks like a shit ton of pills out in front of them.  they say wedding vows, then each take half of the giant pile of pills, and then go to watch the sunset.  and then thats where the movie ends.  it just like cuts to credits and thats it. 
idk man it just doesnt have the amount of emotional gravitas that i feel like a scene like that should have.  and it escalates so quickly too, like one minute theyre in a bathroom and the next theyre on a bus and the next theyre at the church with the pills in front of them.  its hard to explain how abrupt it all felt watching it, u have to see it for urself to get what i mean.  the pacing was just really off in the last third of this film, and with the severity of the act theyre committing u’d think the director would wanna spend more time on it.
so other than that i’d say if u like foreign films and good period pieces this is one to check out, i’d give it like a 7/10.  if anything go see it just to listen to the music cause good god its so gorgeous im gettin my hands on this soundtrack. 
OK Y’ALL i got lots of reviewing to do in the next few days so u’ll be seeing a log of long-ass posts from me soon!  i think The Favorite is on amazon video now so ill watch that for sure sometime this week, and then god knows what else i’ll watch i’ll just have to play it by ear.  have a relaxing fun and fresh sunday y’all try not to let the idea of having to go to school/work tomorrow fill u with too much existential dread  ;)

Fire Emblem Echoes: Spoilery Impressions (still pre-endgame)
I ship Forsyth and Python, they are cute.
I like Mae too, her voice actress is one of the few I really like. Her “I’m still hyper, let’s go.” line is great. She would be better with Celica than Boey though.
Every time I hear Celica I think “silica” which is silicon dioxide aka quartz/sand/etc. I assume they weren’t actually going for the earth reference. I keep calling Alm Chrom instead, but that’s just me.
Celica and Alm’s relationship feels more than a little like Romeo & Juliet. I mean, star-crossed lovers aren’t new, but also their sudden and somewhat inexplicable romance. They’re ~fated~ and whatever. You hung out for like two weeks as children! I don’t even remember people I was friends with as a kid!
It’s nice that, for once, the big scary emperor of doom turns out to be a nice guy. I mean, relatively speaking. He’s smart and not power-hungry, otherwise he would have just signed up with Duma. And the king of the supposedly nice earth goddess is a douche. But I do wonder why he killed Mila first, and not Duma. She was an easier target, but also not actively destroying your country...
Poor evil nephew’s girlfriend. She was cute, but had a death flag over her head from day one. But hey! A proper lesson on toxic masculinity! Don’t raise your kids to feel like their only worth is around being [insert thing here] or they’ll sell their soul to the devil when inevitably someone is better than them!
But it is a real serious trope in Japanese manga and video games I’ve seen that the hero is just a simple farmboy, becomes famous/king/whatever, and then finds out he was actually a prince. It kinda just reinforces the idea that some people are just born different.
Sonya and Genny have good interactions, it’s really sweet. I don’t quite ship it, but it’s cute.

Actually, I’m kind of happy about the lack of marriage in this game because if we can’t have gay marriage at least nobody else can get married. Ignoring the two ultra-sappy couples who could tone it down a bit. Faye’s borderline tsundere attitude towards Alm is creepy too.
God, I hate the horses. All the calvery are useless. They’re “well-rounded”, but then their offence isn’t strong enough, their defence sucks, they’re not fast enough and their resistance is shit... until Mathilda, who is perfect in every way. But seriously, if I replay this game, none of the Villager class characters are getting turned into chevalier.
