Husband Ghost who is obsessed with his wife. He refuses to tell her no, whatever his wife wants, she gets. Anything she even mentions wanting ends up in their shared home. She mentions a beautiful cookware set, she finds it in the cabinets later that week. She complains that her nails are grown out, later her nail tech calls and says that Ghost has paid for a years worth of nail appointments (with tip). Anything to make his wife smile
When Ghost is home his wife doesn't have to lift a finger. He loves the idea of a "traditional marriage" but he's actually a traditional man. He comes home and and does any repairs you need on the house. He's going to buy groceries, doing car maintenance, landscaping the lawn, doing the laundry. Anything his little wifey needs.
Any hobbies she has are always encouraged and paid for by Ghost. Constantly sending packages full of cooking supplies, yarn, stationary, and paints to the house while he's gone. He always wears the things she makes for him. They are bundled in blankets she knitted while eating brownies she baked. All while you are going through the scrapbook you had made while he was on deployment.
He refuses to argue with his wife. A firm believer in "happy wife, happy life". Anything his wifey doesn't like or want to do doesn't happen. She doesn't like his tie, he's changing. She doesn't feel like going out, he's helping her out of her dress and making them hot cocoa. Nothing she can do can upset him. He's so in love with her that anything she does is perfect to him.

Warrior Bites: Clan Tools
[Image ID: Reedwhisker, a black RiverClan warrior cat, sits behind two terracotta pots, some strips of willowbark, a traditional wooden pot called a firkin, and a rock. He has a stick in his mouth.]
Warriors of the Clans are shown in-canon to be able to weave, dig tunnels, decorate with shells, and do whatever it is that BloodClan’s got going on with those collars and manicures. Have you considered what other tools a semi-realistic warrior could handle?
A guide to the various tools and methods that the Clans can use to prepare complex dishes, including the equipment needed for smoking, baking, pickling, and so on. Part of the Warrior Bites series for Bonefall’s Clan Culture.
(The art in this guide was once again provided by my partner who hasn’t read a single page of warrior cats in their life but so help me god I’ll drag them down with me)
Tools + Equipment
Fire Starting
Containers: Twine + Baskets + Buckets
Cookware: Smokers, Ovens, “Grillstones“
1. Fire Starting
Flint can be used to start a fire, especially for Clans that lack lumber. Because flint is most easily found around the Mothermouth, it’s associated with StarClan’s glow and considered somewhat divine.
But for those situations without a flint starter, the Clans generally teach their apprentices the paw-drill method using a spindle. But these days, SkyClan uses stolen Glass to start fires quicker and easier than any other Clan…
Except on cloudy days, where some unfortunate apprentice still gets saddled with spindle duty.
[Image ID: Reedclaw, a brown tabby Warrior Cat from SkyClan, sits on his haunches and spins a long stick called a ‘spindle’ with his front paws. Smoke is rising from the board the spindle is spinning against.]
2. Containers: Twine + Baskets + Buckets
RiverClan has the easiest access to twine; Willowbark can be peeled right off the tree and used without any processing for simple string to tie things with. WindClan uses woven grass as twine. ShadowClan, SkyClan, and ThunderClan are able to make cordage from Blackberry brambles.
Once the cat has twine, it can be woven into a simple basket to gather things, like berries, clams, or insects. In order to carry liquids, forested Clans can create firkins-- a small wooden bucket that requires some carpentry ability, namely creating wooden nails.
But these tremble before the value of pottery, which is needed to store liquids, ferment and pickle food, and create stew.
Pottery is made from clay, which has to be baked in order to go from wet mud to terracotta. RiverClan is responsible for making the majority of new pottery because of the river, and ShadowClan’s marsh gives them lots of access to low-quality clay.
WindClan was once unmatched in the quality of their pottery thanks to tunneling leading them to the finest clay deposits known to the Clans. Though SkyClan is now rivaling the finest ancient WindClan pottery, due to their willingness to steal buckets from twolegs.
(Leafstar says, “if you cant make a firkin, store-bought is fine”)
[Image ID: Leafstar, the brown tabby-and-cream Warrior cat leader of SkyClan, sits behind a counter in front of an audience presenting a man-made firkin, parodying shopping channels. A speech bubble says, “Meow meow meow meow meow, storebought is meow.”]
3. Cookware: Smokers, Ovens, “Grillstones“
A smoker is very easy to construct, all that’s needed is some straight branches, twine, and fire.
First, a round pit is dug into the ground and filled with soaked woodchips. It is important they’re damp, because wet wood gives off more smoke than dry. Then, three beams are set and tied at the top, like a triangle. From there, a shelf is made inside of the beams. Multiple shelves can be made if a lot of food is being smoked at once.
ThunderClan wraps the smoker in a leather pelt, to keep the smoke in. Their prowess with smoking and seasoning a wide range of meats gives them the title of BBQ champions.
[Image ID: A primitive smoker setup, made of three sticks leaned against each other in a triangular shape and tied at the top. Two shelves are tied into the structure, the top row with minnows and the bottom with hanging strips of meat.]
An oven is a large construction. Capable of cooking several meals at once, each clan would have just one to use communally. Because the communal oven is such a big project, each Clan would have one that looks unique to their environment.
ThunderClan’s, for example, is flat and made of stone, simple in design but very sturdy and capable of cooking a lot of meat at once.
[Image ID: A stone oven made of flat, piled rocks. A fire is lit at the bottom and meat is browning on the top shelf. A stick leans against the side.]
For the quickest and easiest way to make a hot meal, meat is roasted on a spit or loose stick over an open fire. The best sear comes from a large, flat slab of rock propped up over a flame, known to the clans as a grillstone.
[Image ID: Firestar, ginger tabby warrior cat leader of ThunderClan, watches bacon sizzle on a large, flat rock placed over a fire. His daughter, Squirrelkit, sits beside him. A thought bubble above her head contains a waffle, and a question mark.]
(Clan blood be damned that kittypet can work a grill)

Spellbound (Michael Corleone x OC)
Summary: Day 26 - Dub-Con. Gloria Marino’s got most of Las Vegas wrapped around her finger, except the one she really wants—but it won’t be long before Michael Corleone’s under her spell, too. [AO3 link | Kinktober 2024 Masterlist]
Note: This AU is heavily inspired by The Love Witch (2016). It was a lot of fun to write evil!Gloria and turn this power dynamic on its head🤭
Word count: 1k
Warnings: Sexually explicit content involving dubious consent (use of a love potion for sexual coercion)
Gloria didn’t regret her move to Las Vegas one bit. New York was cramping her style. Every damn witch in the city knew each other, no matter their practice. Her mother, an old guard strega, didn’t approve of her using her powers so frivolously, preaching honor and responsibility.
The City of Sin offered Gloria all the debauchery she could dream of, her job as a hostess in one of the casinos’ restaurants was a revolving door of men she could use how she wanted and then kick to the curb whenever she was done with them. This routine suited her perfectly well, until she met the casino’s owner late one evening. Each subsequent encounter with Michael Corleone made her feel like she’d been struck by lightning.
Handsome. Dark. Powerful. Woefully disinterested in her—at least on the surface. She caught the lingering glances, felt his eyes walking all over her, even when she wasn’t looking. His latent desire was more than enough to work with. She dug her great-grandmother’s spellbook out from its hiding place beneath her bed late one night, full of dark magic her mother unequivocally shunned, but her grandmother held onto out of respect for tradition, passing it onto Gloria on her sixteenth birthday. Carefully flipping the worn, yellowing pages, she found the one she was looking for close to the end.
The ritual required consumption and copulation, with a complicated potion at the center of its successful execution—dangerous in the wrong hands, but she couldn’t think of a better purpose than binding a man like Michael Corleone to her, the kind of man she deserved.
Pleased to have found most of the ingredients in one outing, she wasted no time in making the potion when the conditions were finally right. Gloria couldn’t cook a meal for her life, but her cookware had seen plenty of use. She spit into the pot on the stove, watched the thick, crimson liquid reach a boil, and then quickly removed it from the heat. When the mixture coagulated as it cooled, she sliced her left palm open with a steak knife. The blood dripped, melding with the rest of the potion with a sizzle.
Just as the recipe promised, it was sickeningly sweet. She frowned. A snag in her plan. The love potion would be easy enough to slip into freshly mixed cocktails or decadent desserts, but Michael indulged in neither. Tapping her manicured nails against the countertop, she considered how exactly she could slip him the potion. The best she could come up with was pouring some in the coffee he always ordered after dinner and hope he drank enough for it to have some effect on him.
Her stomach twisted the following evening, watching him grimace as he took a sip of his coffee. He set it down, pouring cream into it before taking another gulp. No good. He waved the waitress over and asked for it to be sent back.
Gloria turned around, hardly able to focus on the list of reservations in front of her. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she felt a hand on her arm a few minutes later.
“Gloria, before I go, there’s something I’d like to talk to you about,” Michael said, his gaze especially dark as he stared into her eyes.
She smiled. “Of course, Mr. Corleone.”
“It’d best be discussed in private.”
“Well, my shift doesn’t end for another—”
“They can find someone else to cover for you.”
He ushered her out of the restaurant, and she couldn’t contain the smugness in her expression when he placed his hand on the small of her back on the elevator ride up to what she could only assume was his hotel room.
The door hardly opened and shut before she was pushed against it, his mouth hungrily on hers, more teeth and tongue than lips, as if his intent were to devour. She resisted the urge to laugh. If only he knew, she’d have her claws sunk deep into him soon enough.
Heat radiated off of his body, his passion for her so intense she was hardly able to pull away from his embrace for a moment.
“Mr. Corleone, I had no idea you felt this way about me,” she said breathlessly, the mirth in her voice betraying her ingenue facade.
“Ever since I saw you—I thought I had it under control, but—”
“Then don’t fight it, Michael,” she urged. “Don’t you want to make love to me?”
He still had some troublesome resolve in him, as he nearly mumbled an excuse about his wife until Gloria kissed him, pressing her pouting lips against his, practically smearing her freshly applied Rouge Dior across his mouth. Dug her fingers in his hair, unkempt and wild at her hands, and she hadn’t even gotten him over to the bed yet.
He finally gave in when she tugged at his belt, her hand brushing his growing bulge.
A soft moan tumbled out of her mouth when he pushed her back onto the bed, his gaze white-hot and wild as he unbuckled his belt and unzipped his pants. She just barely managed to shimmy her panties down to her ankles when he threw himself on top of her.
Taking his hand in hers, she brought it to her pussy. “Do you feel that? It’s all for you.”
“Only me, Gloria,” he said, his voice low, almost dangerous if she weren’t certain she was in control as he pushed his cock inside her. The potion had done most of the heavy lifting, enhancing his existing lust for her, dissipating his resolve with each passing moment he wasn’t penetrating her.
Her wavy hair fanned out on the bedspread in serpentine tendrils, a dark crown haloing her head. She wrapped her arms around him, prepared to damn him in her embrace. He was close, she could feel it, the way his hips stuttered, his thrusts longer and deeper inside her. Gloria knew what they’d call her after everything was said and done—homewrecker, slut, witch, spewed from lips curled in jealousy poorly disguised as disgust.
Finally, finally he came, didn’t even try to pull out, effectively signing himself over to her.
Pleasure cracked down her spine like a whip as she cried out in ecstasy, “You’re mine now, Michael. You’re all mine.”
“Strega,” he uttered in horror, as if his release allowed him to come to his senses.
She threw her head back and laughed and laughed and laughed.

How Batfamily Members Spend Valentine’s Day
Bruce Wayne:
Bruce doesn’t make a big deal out of the day and typical will give find ways to show his appreciation instead of outright saying it. Like the WatchTower needs it’s technology updated to the lastest Wayne Tech operating Systems, and when J’onn comes in it’s all brand state-of the art technology and state of the art systems.
Alfred brought up a small cas iron pan he liked. He finds a brand new set of cookware from the catalogues he was eyeing.
Ace and Titus have chewed up all there toys. Damian goes to let them out but there two busy chewing on Green Arrow and Green Lantern plushies that squeak.
Alfred Pennyworth:
Alfred unlike Bruce will outright show others how he appreciates and loves them. He will be sure his family will know just how much he cares and loves them.
He starts by making a large plate of heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes, with fresh whipped cream, Canada maple syrup (The imported fancy stuff.) And fresh cut strawberries.
He also makes his famous Chocolate Cookies to go with dinner. (See Jason.)
Dick Grayson:
Let’s be honest this man is a little bit of Casanova. He buys box chocolate, and teddy bears for all his partners;past, present and alleged. (*Cough Wally *Cough)
For his siblings however they get his full attention for the day. No matter if he really just wants to be alone he pushes that to the side for one day. Damian wants to feed the ducks, Dick and him are at the park at 6 a.m. just to feed them.
Tim has been distant and threw himself into work, Dick drags him to a nice lunch where the two can push work aside and catch up. He even searched months with Babs help found a rare limited addition of different old English books and gifted them to Jason. Who nearly crushed Dick in a hug and told him to never speak of this again or he would shoot him in his knees.
Barbara Gordon:
Babs always gifts her Father the same thing every year. A pack of his favorite coffee, a brand new travel thermos, and a handmade card It’s a tradition. But for her siblings she’s a little less planned out but none the less it’s still thoughtfully.
Duke has been getting behind in night classes due to Daily Patrol but refuses to tell Bruce in fear he’ll be disappointed or bench him. Barbara comes up with a new version of his helmet that while he is busy fighting or even patrolling it is programmed to go over his notes for him as well as play his lectures from the previous class to get him prepared for the next test.
Cass really wants to audition for a lead in Gotham Ballerina production of Black Swan but she’s self doubting herself. So Barbara has the dance room in Wayne Manor cleared and has Cass practice along with her while also giving her pointers and giving her words of encouragement. Cass tries out and lands the role of the Black Swan.
Jason Todd:
Jason would never admit it but he sees Valentine’s Day the same way as Bruce. He doesn’t make a big deal out of and he specifically tries to avoid it. Of course he fails. Jason would rather jump into Killer Croc’s cell than tell his family how much he loves them,but they now that he does and won’t say it unless someone is on Death’s front door.Everyone loves his food and that’s just a given. The few days prior to Valentines Day Stephanie noticed a Tuba-ware container of her favorite food on her dresser. There isn’t a note she knows who it’s from and she’s just excited she doesn’t have to eat canned ravioli for the third time this week.
Selina comes to her apartment after being out of town and without mentioning she’s coming home to find a warm plate of Chicken Florentine in her microwave which makes the whole apartment smell heavily.
It’s not a surprise to anyone that Alfred requests everyone come to the Manor for dinner the eve before Valentine’s Day. A large feast of different foods. From Asian, Italian , Indian,etc. everyone is digging in and it’s all amazing and is homemade. Before dessert everyone in unison thanks Jason who blushes tells them it was all Alfred which they know is BS.
Tim Drake:
Tim is a man of few words but it’s not due to him not knowing what to say. He just lacks the ability to put it into terms of endearment.
He finds Kate lingering around the manor and outright tells her that she gives good advice. Kate thanks him but is taken a back because she never saw herself as such. And after a quick chat with Alfred she finds Tim and tells him she appreciates him telling her that and she understands he means in terms of her giving him advice about coming out.
He finds Dick in the gaming room and when he noticed him he asks him does he wanna play a few rounds of Smash Bros he joins in. And after a few moments Tim turns to Dick and tells him he understands why he replaces him with Damian. Dick immediately stops and begins to tell Tim he didn’t replace him,but Tim tells him that he gets he sees him as his equal, his brother. He did it so Damian can grow and not be stuck not experiencing a normal life. Dick hugs Tim and tells him he’d never hurt him but most of all he’s stuck with him for his life.
Damian Wayne:
Damian has always struggled to express himself. The only form he’s able to take to show his care is through art.
To say that when Barbara entered her apartment to find a handmade colored sketch of her first appearance as Batgirl was an understatement. She didn’t know that there was another drawing of her from her time as Oracle in her bedroom along with a small note stating that she was a hero weather she wore a cape and a symbol, or was overseeing several monitors at the same time. She has more than earned respect and her place as a member of the Batfamily. The next time she saw him she hugged him to death and everyone else was confused more so that Damian wasn’t fighting to be released.
He spends most of the afternoon training with Bruce. And usually Bruce is pushing everyone to their limits and then he makes them give him more. But this time it’s almost as if Damian is intentionally causing himself to fail in order to get Bruce to demonstrate. It’s only about the eighth time that it dawns on Bruce what he’s doing. “Honestly Father for being such a highly acclaimed detective you sure lack the ability to detect someone faking it.”
Tim is nearly hospitalized from a heartache when he finds a oil painted portrait of him as a young boy his parents Janet and Jack in his room. It’s not because Damian hasn’t made his brother art before, it’s because the photo which the painting was referenced from was lost the night Tim’s father was killed and he never found it once the house was abandoned. But Damian managed to not only find it and place on his bed but give him a large version of it too.
Stephanie Brown:
Steph is by far a great gift giver even if she can be a extra about it.
Bruce was a man that didn’t need really anything. He could buy the world and be satisfied by the time Breakfast was severed. For years Bruce struggled with his parents murder everyone knew that. But what most didn’t know was he had spent years trying to restore his Mother’s necklace,as a piece of her no matter how morbid. He found a box titled here you go, you psycho. -SB . And it was her mother’s necklace completely restored with every single Pearl in place.
Dick had been so busy that he neglected to clean his apartment before Kory came over for a date. He had spent most of the morning returning to Bludheaven stuck in traffic, then he ran errands to get flowers, find the cologne of his she liked him wearing on their dates and some small stuff. But he knew he needed to clean. Imagine his shock to a head to toe clean Apartment. He sat the stuff in the kitchen and got two texts from Stephanie.
Text Message:
Don’t mention, Ik I’m your fav sista 😝
P.S Grayson for the love of god do your laundry I should not have to walk around with your old boxers everywhere 🫤😵💫
Cassandra Cain:
Cass reminds me of a cat. I feel like she would just pop up and give her family gifts or advice.
Jason about to start preparing dinner for tonight. He opens the pantry to find Cass. He nearly returns to his grave in that moment. She hands him some low sodium salt.”Dad, not need normal salt.” And she take a bag of Doritos and leaves the kitchen.
Duke is about to take a shower and before he can pull back the curtain Cass is there with a big smile holding several bottles of hair products.
“These are natural. Good for you.” She hands them to him and walks away like he isn’t just shocked his big sister saw him in a Dragon Ball towel.
Alfred has no idea why his fine China has been removed and is on the dinning room table polished to perfection but decides not to question it and resume with his daily routine.
Duke Thomas:
Duke tries to do things that his siblings need not necessarily wants or expensive gifts more so practical.
He knows Damian wants him to get him the pet tiger from the Zoo that is going extinct. But rather than getting mauled or worse getting chewed out by Bruce he opts to get Damian new shoes. Damian finds the gift confusing because he can buy his own shoes but these shoes are specifically for training something Damian does at minimum twice a day. In the end he thanks Duke because now he isn’t sliding around as much.
Tim has been begging for weeks for this fancy expresso machine and no one wants to feed into his obsession of coffee especially,but they been toying with the idea since Tim doesn’t ask anyone for anything. And for Valentines Day Duke bites the bullet and get him something. Tim isn’t ungrateful about his gift from his brothers but he knows it’s not at all what he wished for. Instead Duke got him a pair of Bluetooth headphones with cushions ear muffs. At first Tim puts them in his backpack for class but between the Young Justice Teams long flights and the constant noise at the manor he can play his favorite songs while also canceling outside noises and attempting to relax.
Dick comes home to find two large gallons of detergent, a half gallon bottle of softener,two packs of stain remover sticks, and $100 dollar gift card to Wash Lands which is directly across the street from his apartment. He’s not surprised Steph told the others he’s just hopes Alfred isn’t aware of this.

Whether you have a modern, minimalist kitchen or a more traditional setting, the Hawkins Die Cast Grill Pan effortlessly blends in, complementing your kitchen's style.

Look Back, by Looking Forwards
Universe: Starbound CW: Fantasy religion, food Words: 1,653 Context: Written for the Spring 2023 prompt, "Featherfood".
The ship hummed gently under Mio's touch as she idly scanned the navigation console. Nobu was worried about one of the ship's fins, so she was searching for a repair station when there was a rap on the Bridge door. "Come," Mio called, attention still on her search. "Irritated. Captain, I demand you remove crewmember Xictli from my kitchen." Mio turned towards the copper glitch, tilting her head. "Why? What's the matter, Sparkfoot?" "She has pilfered my pantry, abused my cookware, and is carving up my kitchen! Demanding. You need to improve these conditions!" Mio stood, making calming gestures. "Alright. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I'll speak to her now."
Mio left the Bridge with Sparkfoot marching beside her, and headed to the back of the ship, towards the Commons and crew quarters. At the junction between Mech and Hydroponics, Mio stopped. "Why don't you wait here?" she said, gesturing to the armchair. Sparkfoot shook his head. "Surly. I would rather see justice." "Apologies. Let me make myself clearer: Ordering. You will remain here." Sparkfoot's eye lights winked on and off. Mio crossed her arms. Sparkfoot gracefully descended into the chair. "Tetchy. I will remain here." "Grateful." With a dip of her head, Mio set off again, through Hydroponics, through the crew lounge, and into the Commons.
Inside, she found most of her crew clustered together, listening to the banging and crashing from the galley. "What, by the Ocean Tides, is going on here?" As one, the crew jumped, turning to view their irate captain. "Back to work. All of you!" The crew started to dissipate, but Fife, the medic, paused on the way out. "Don't be too hard on her, Cap'n," yon said. "There's an important date coming up on the Grounded calendar." Mio nodded. "I'll keep that in mind."
Mio hardly knew how to make sense of Sparkfoot's usually ordered galley. The surfaces not covered with flour were instead smeared with baking grease. A stack of cracked eggshells stood on the counter next to a huge mixing bowl and a tub leaking pale pink goo. On the hob, emitting a dark miasma, was a tray of charcoal bricks. Xictli – dressed in an outfit peppered with beads, golden thread, and flour – stood over the tray, an ebb and flow of obscenities frothing from the sunset-orange avian. "Lieutenant Xictli, by salt and sand, what are you doing? Sparkfoot is livid, and you know how long it took me to find a chef who would stay longer than three jumps. Please get this place back into Bristol fashion, post haste." "With all due respect, Captain, I can't. Not until I've finished this." Xictli lowered her head, making a slow swiping motion with her beak. "Sparkfoot doesn't have all the right ingredients, so I was trying to improvise. But," she gestured defeatedly to the lumps of charcoal, "it's not working."
Mio took a breath, letting it out slowly to avoid flaring her gills. She paced to the sink, drew a glass of water, and held it out to Xictli. "Tell me what you're trying to do. I can't help if you don't explain." Xictli looked from the water to her captain and back. She sighed, dipping her beak into the glass to lap up the water. "The anniversary of the Grounded Ascendancy is tomorrow. It's the day we cast off the chains of Kluex and fled Avos to the stars. Our ancestors took few victuals that day, and in honour of their courage, we eat the same as they did. The key dish is Featherfood." "Why didn't you say before?" Mio raised a brow ridge. "I would have been happy to add that to the last supply run. You know I would." "According to tradition, it has to be made in one's home. I can't remember the last time I left the ship, let alone went back to Merak's Nest."
Mio closed her lower two eyes, humming to herself, as Xictli took another sip of water. Mio opened her eyes. "What," she asked thoughtfully, "constitutes declaring a place one's home?" "I- Captain? I'm not sure I understand." Xictli ground her beak. "Must one have lived there for a long time? May one have only spent one night there? Could," Mio added pointedly, "it be as simple as a place another has opened to you for use?" Xictli blinked. "Well. Um. Since our ancestors made their victuals in the homes of people they stayed with, I would say the latter could count. Captain, I'm still confused…" "Get me a shopping list of ingredients you'll need and get this place squared away. Then meet me by the secondary teleporter on level seven of the Altais colony in two hours. Understood?" "But- Cap-?" Mio flared her gills. "Is that understood?" "Yes, Captain."
~~~
Xictli waited against the trunk of a tree, head back, watching the flickering lights in the night sky as glowing rain pattered down into the leaves, painting the world with bright gold. On the wind, from the far end of the park, came the gentle tinkle of a wind chime. She sighed, eyes sliding closed. A hum started in the back of her throat, joined by rhythmic clicks and whistles.
"That's a pretty tune. I didn't know you could sing." Xictli's eyes snapped open. "Sorry, I didn't mean to keep you waiting," Mio said. She'd changed from her uniform into a red kimono, the silk changing from poppy-bright to wine-dark in the flickering rain. Mio smiled. "I forgot what a pain feathercrowns are to pull. This way."
Xictli blinked and followed as the Captain made her way through the park and down the wide road. "Where are we going?" Xictli asked. Mio glanced back with a smile. "You'll see. Did you get the galley back to good order?" "Yes, Captain. I… I also apologised to Chef." Mio's shoulders dipped with the release of tension. "Thank you."
After a short walk, they turned off the main road into a short alley and stopped in front of a modest wooden house. Mio touched a webbed hand to a sensor, and the door swung open. "Boots off, please," she said, walking in. Xictli kicked off her boots and stood, nonplussed, in the entryway. "What is this place?" "Welcome, child of Merak," Mio said, holding out a pair of slippers in both hands. "I open my home to you and greet you with the affection of family. Whatever you need, I shall provide, so long as my hospitality is not abused." Xictli opened her beak but wordlessly shut it again. Mio gave a gentle smile. "I think that should do the trick. Come now, we've got baking to get started on." Xictli slid her feet into the slippers and trailed after Mio.
The house was refined, almost delicate. Wide windows framed the planet's sweet meadows and gently rolling hills. White textured walls contrasted classic dark-wood furniture, decorated with greenery and ocean mementoes. The kitchen was a mix of warm rustic cabinets and modern appliances. Onto the table, Mio was unpacking food from a bag. "I have everything you included on that list, and a few extra items for dinner," she said, folding the bag and placing it out of the way. "Where do we start?"
~~~
Xictli directed preparations: While Mio diced the feathercrows, cooking them with sugar to make a compote, Xictli sliced open the beakseeds. She scooped out the crunchy seeds, grinding them into a powder to mix with the flour and more sugar. With the compote cooling on the stove, Mio mashed the beakseed pulp with a little water, then handed it to Xictli who stirred it into the dry ingredients to make a dough. They split the dough, kneaded it and left it to rise while they had a cup of fragrant tea and dinner of rice cakes and coralcreep sushi.
Then it was back to work, rolling the dough and shaping it into long flat strips. Mio followed Xictli's instructions, adding a little compote and winding the dough into a spiral. The buns went into the oven – watched carefully this time – until they'd risen to a glorious golden brown. Sweet, yeasty steam billowed from the oven as the buns were carefully removed, and the two women gazed at the sticky Featherfood with pride. "Oh, they smell delicious," Mio said. "Do you think we should sample one? Just to make sure the others are alright, you understand…" Xictli grinned, nudging Mio in the side. "Oh, I understand. But no, they're for the celebrations. Webs off. There's one last touch missing…" From a small earthenware pot, Xictli drew delicate petals of edible gold shaped like feathers and placed one in the center of each bun. "Perfect."
~~~
With the buns slid into the fridge, Mio led Xictli to a guest room. "We may as well stay here for the night and return to the ship tomorrow. Will that give you enough time to prepare for the ceremony?" "Yes." Xictli dipped her beak, making that sliding motion again. "Captain… I don't even know how to begin to thank you for your assistance…" Mio held up a hand. "You don't need to. Xictli, you're not just my lieutenant. You're my right-hand, one of my oldest crewmembers. Dare I say…" colour rose to her cheeks, "a best friend. My family. I am embarrassed you felt you couldn't come to me for help in the first place." "I know. I should have. You're so busy though, and I didn't want to bother you with something so trivial-" "Trivial! Xictli, one's beliefs are not trivial. Carrying out one's customs and ceremonies is not trivial. Please," Mio took Xictli's hands, "next time, don't hesitate. What's the point of building the New Protectorate if my own crew can't practice their culture without fear." Xictli closed her eyes and dipped her beak. "Thank you, Mio." Mio smiled, squeezing Xictli's hands before letting them go. "Always, my friend."
hello mercury!! please do tell us more about your christmas w aki omg!! do you have any activities you’re thinking of doing together? :>
my christmas with aki 🥹
gifting is my love language. thoughtful and handmade items go over best with aki, plus he likes it when i pick out clothing for him, so he is receiving some real nice vintage sweaters, along with a set of high quality pottery dishes and cookware to replace the ones he’s had since moving into his apartment. also i drew a picture of us and popped it in a cute lil vintage frame, aki will absolutely sob when he opens that because he's sentimental.
we got creative with hiding our gifts for each other and even more creative with hiding denji and power’s gifts since they’re nosy. we wrap their gifts together. aki is a fucking pro at gift wrapping, always the exact amount of paper with hella crisp lines. my gifts look like a child wrapped them. we cook dinner together as well but non-traditional stuff. i'm not much of a casserole person, aki can fuck up some potatoes though. it's the country boy in him.
#mercury speaks#we also went to some holiday markets together to shop for each other and for loved ones#we also have a tree#christmas is my favorite holiday#it’s very important to me to make christmas special for aki + our little family
Brass Kitchenware
Kitchen equipment can greatly impact not only the functionality but also the aesthetic appeal of a space when it comes to outfitting it. Brass kitchenware is a unique combination of style and functionality among the many choices available. This versatile metal has gained popularity in recent years, and for good reason.
Taking a closer look at brass kitchenware, let us examine why it needs to be part of your culinary haven.
The classic charm of Brass
Brass—a combination of copper and zinc—has been used for centuries, owing to its durability and elegant appearance. The warm, golden hue of brass adds a touch of sophistication to any kitchen decor, making it a favored choice for both traditional and contemporary settings. The natural patina that develops over time only enhances its charm, allowing each piece to tell a story as it ages gracefully.
Functional Benefits
Beyond its beauty, brass kitchenware is remarkably functional. Here are a few reasons why:
Heat Conductivity: Brass is an excellent conductor of heat, ensuring that your food cooks evenly. Whether you're sautéing vegetables or simmering sauces, opting for brass cookware can enhance your culinary experience.
Durability: Brass kitchenware is known for its resilience. Unlike some materials that easily chip or warp, brass pieces can withstand high temperatures. These items are designed for durability, resulting in a lower likelihood of wear and tear. They represent a prudent long-term investment.
Antimicrobial Properties: One of the lesser-known benefits of brass is its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria. This makes brass kitchenware a more hygienic option for food preparation, ensuring you can cook with confidence.
Aesthetic Versatility
Cookware made from brass comes in various forms, including pots, pans, utensils, and serving dishes. Its versatility allows it to enhance a wide range of kitchen styles, whether you're aiming for a rustic farmhouse look or a sleek, modern aesthetic. Here are a few popular items to consider incorporating into your kitchen:
Brass Cookware: Choose pans or pots with brass handles for a vintage touch. They lend an elegant air to stovetop cooking and make beautiful statement pieces when displayed on a shelf.
Serving Dishes: Brass platters, Brass bowls, and serving utensils give height to your dining experience. Their warm tones are perfect for both casual meals and formal gatherings.
Decorative Elements: Do not overlook the potential of brass as a decorative element. From spice racks to trivets, incorporating brass accents can tie together your kitchen’s design.
Caring for Your Brass Kitchenware
To keep your brass kitchenware looking its best, proper care is essential. Avoid harsh chemicals when cleaning and opt for gentle soap and warm water. To maintain its shine, you can use a brass cleaner or a mix of lemon juice and baking soda for a natural solution. Patina can enhance character, so embrace its vintage appeal!
Conclusion
Brass kitchenware is more than just a trend—it is a timeless choice that marries functionality and aesthetics. Its enduring charm and practicality make it a worthy addition to any kitchen.
