W O O F this took a while– I was thinking long and hard about this because there are SO MANY good moments and episodes 😅, and so many agents– it was difficult, but I’m happy with my answers 👀

Ranger Marsh’s Shine Episode is definitely The Monitor Lizards. I LOVE this episode, it’s one of my favourites in the whole series so far—not just because of the events in it, but as a concept. I LOVE the callback to the Great Swamp Search!! I watched the 2nd season blind, and seeing all these familiar faces was SUCH a fun surprise. It’s good for Ranger Marsh as a character, because it actually shows him doing his job as a Ranger, not as an Octo-Agent. It also reinforces the fact that he truly cares for and is friends with these creatures, even if they are invasive, and that he's willing to travel to check in on them. This is another episode that also proves (to me) that the writers know they’re dealing with an older audience for the show, and are more likely to delve into solid lore and continuity. This episode makes me really hopeful for more of that.

Natquik’s Shine Episode, WITHOUT QUESTION, is The Red Fox. Honestly I feel like I don’t need to explain why, but I will because I like talking ✨: Natquik is my favourite Octo-Agent, but overall we haven’t actually gotten that many episodes dedicated to him yet. The Red Fox gives us a close and personal look into what Natquik is like by himself (I love episodes where characters are alone 👀), how he deals with problems (by ignoring them until they get worse—which is interesting... *stares at Barnacles*...), and even hints toward his family, by showing us his family portraits, and leaving us wondering, “Where are they?” – There are so many moments I love in this episode, from when he first discovers the kits, decides to help them stay warm, rushes to protect Barnacles, to his bittersweet goodbye at the end. It’s all so perfect.

Tracker absolutely shines in The Missing Lake. Honestly, he shines a LOT in Above and Beyond, considering he never got his own episode in the main series, and was only in Operation Deep Freeze for two scenes. AnB has been really good to Tracker, and I’m so grateful they decided to make him an Agent. The Missing Lake sticks out to me the most, because for the most part he is by himself (and I’ve already mentioned my love for that <3), and unlike all his other episodes, we get to really see him be responsible and use his Polar Scout skills in action. He’s often portrayed as a follower, who just goes along with whatever he's told to do, but he takes charge twice in this episode: when he offers to help Rowan, and when he stays behind to save Buck. Love that for him.

Calico Jack. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Calico Jack....... I could talk forever about this funky old cat man. He doesn’t just shine, he GLOWS in every episode he’s in—but alas, for the sake of this post I will be focusing on The Harlequin Duck. I love the showing of his gentle parental instincts in this episode, and his singing; since we know he canonically has a theme song, that I headcanon he wrote himself. I think far too much, and often, about how he legit panicked when he realized the egg was missing. How his first instinct was to hide that fact from Captain Barnacles. He was terrified, having a full blown panic attack on screen. He apologizes to the mother duck with such genuine solace, and promises to get it back “On [his] honour as a pirate!” ...Which is extremely significant to me, considering Kwazii was the first character to EVER say the phrase: “On me honour as an Octonaut!” in The Flying Fish after Inkling’s book was lost – and of course as a final touch, I adore seeing him work with Pete to get the egg back. The way he tosses the egg in the air, fully trusting that Pete will catch it... they’re so in sync, just as pirate and parrot are meant to be ;)

Paani... I feel like there’s so much more to him than what we’ve seen so far, it almost feels unfair to assign him a “Shine Episode”. So, instead of highlighting a single episode, I’ll quickly talk about three that stick out (PS: you might sense a theme 🤣):

The Barnacle Geese - Uncle Paani. I like the “I’ll be my own uncle” joke, and the Edgar Allen Poe reference. I think Paani’s determination to help the chick (who doesn’t seem to want help) is nice to watch, and helps to prove his worthiness as an Agent—which is always fun considering his hesitance when Barnacles tried to recruit him in S1E1. In a way, this episode also makes Paani seem more like Barnacles. See my old post analyzing the show’s intro. (*Stares at the episode title* 👁️👁️)

The Arabian Camels - Take a shot of cocoa every time I mention my love for episodes where characters are forced to be by themselves. This one is especially interesting to me though, because we know that Paani was alone, for a very long time, before he met the Octonauts. He has no trouble working and getting by alone, and we get to see him exhibiting that, while being out of his element (a dry desert) at the same time; and that’s really cool.

The Lonely Frog - ...Y’know how they constantly make the Octonauts/Agents meet creatures with similar issues to them? Yeah. *Stares at the episode title.* *Stares at the end scene where he says “Kinda like when I met you guys!” before obnoxiously jumping into the lake, in response to Shellington+Peso saying “They never even knew each other existed before! [...] and now it’s like they’ve known each other all their lives!”* *STARES MORE AT THE EPISODE TITLE,,* *wonders how long Paani was actually alone before becoming an Agent...*

Pinto, where art thou? He wasn’t in S2 at all, which was a bit disappointing since we just saw him get an Octowatch in S1. I would’ve expected him to be pressing that button every chance he got, giving us a “Penguin who cried Octoalert” episode. But anyway,, The Curious Penguin is the PERFECT episode for Pinto. It shows his personality really well, and I love how his distractions and the things he learns and discovers help him to save the day in the end. I think Pinto (just like Kwazii) is a good portrayal of ADHD, and how he just needs to be in the right environment to succeed. Each time Pinto messes up or loses focus, isn’t because he was left alone and couldn’t be trusted—it’s because he was left alone and understimulated. So when he’s thrown into a sudden high-stakes situation, all of his focus hones in on the moment, and he’s able to save Dashi and Paani by himself.

AND, because you didn’t say it had to be an Above and Beyond moment, I want to throw some love at The Oarfish episode from the main series. In this episode, Pinto no longer views Peso as “less” than an Octonaut, and is so excited to watch him do his job—it’s really cute!! His impulsivity is once again a positive thing—granted, it seems to annoy Peso a little, but when you think about it he kinda saved the day by being impulsive. He sounded the Octoalert without permission, which let the captain know to come back before their radio signal cut out, and by being unafraid of the “monster” and swimming outside, he was able to discover what the problem was so that Peso could help. He did good.

Pearl.... I love Pearl a lot, but I can’t think of one specific episode that comes to mind for her. I love The Pupfish because it introduces Peri to AnB, and I love how he teaches her how to tie a knot, so she can save the algae (and Glen). I like The Bison episode because it’s interesting watching her not doing something with algae for once, and The Pink Glacier because her and Kwazii’s dynamic was something I didn’t know I needed, but now I want more of (/p).

Ryla. Possibly controversial opinion: I liked Ryla in The Caves of Sac Actun, more than I like her now in Above and Beyond. I know she’s only gotten 3 episodes so far, but she’s really missing something. Sac Actun gave us lore on her right off the bat: she’s old friends with Dashi, she’s a skilled cave explorer, she’s spunky, she’s purple. AnB hasn’t given us much yet. So far her only shtick is caves, and that’s getting a bit repetitive. Consider every moment she has in Sac Actun as her “Shining Moment”, because honestly that whole movie is a 10/10.

Koshi,,,, she hasn't gotten that much yet, but I'm gonna say The Longfin Eels is her Shine Episode. I like the way she narrates the whole episode, because it's very in-character. Plus we know she’s literally writing about this adventure in her diary as she's telling it, as if it were a mystery book. She reminds me of narrators from 1920s film noirs, and that’s cool. Also! Honorary mention of the scene when she gets her Octowatch: I loved that for her <3

Min is below the cut, because my answer for her includes some very heavy SEASON 5 SPOILERS, including SCREENSHOTS:

All of Min's appearances so far are dear to my heart. However, my favourite has to be her own introductory episode: The Giant Chinese Salamander.

The Rainforest Rescue is another amazing episode for Min—she’s a wonderful character on her own, of course—but I think we can all agree that she and Inkling are very adorable together (no matter how you interpret their relationship).

When Above and Beyond aired on Netflix, there was a lot of confusion around Min, from the younger audience and other fans who hadn’t seen S5. The Giant Chinese Salamander introduces Min with a 20-minute special; showing her in high-stakes action with Kwazii, bonding with the Octonauts, being an all-around Cool Person™, and a flashback of how she met Inkling when they were younger.

She saved his life. He was thrown far inland by a rough storm, and was trapped until she found him. I honestly headcanon that Min partially (if not outright) inspired Inkling to form the Octonauts, and this moment could have literally sealed the fate of EVERYTHING we know.

But! Until S5 comes out, that's all I've got to say~ 👋💝

More Head canons!! Natquik edition^^. Also, ignore how green his clothes are. I'm using watercolor pencils, and they're a new medium for me, so bare with me when it comes to blending colors.

Head canons

-Gay Aro/ace (In the sense that he falls in love slowly and rarely. Same dude, same)

-He/him

-Adopted Barnacles and Bianca when they were cubs. They had yet to leave the den and were both starting to whine bc they missed their parents

-Gets overwhelmed by noises, like in general. He learns to deal with it, but if there's a noise he's not used to/not rlly expecting, then he's more likely to get overwhelmed.

-Autism core, but hides it rlly well.

-Loved doing surprise snowball fights with the cubs in Polar Scouts.

-Polar scouts surprised him by using the skills they were learning to surprise Natquik with a surprise snowball and it worked. He was stupid proud of everyone afterwards and decided to reward them. (Idrk how, tbh)

-Yk those foxes in that one episode where his den was broken into?? Yeah, well he visits them every year and brings them food and what not. Same with the Penguins at the end of the same episode.

-He essentially has like 4 families:

+His Biological one (His siblings are alive and think he's dead and he thinks his siblings are dead)

+Barnacles and Bianca (and Tracker to a certain extent

+The foxes. (They send him pictures of the baby foxes milestones, and he tears up everytime)

+The penguins. (They visit him when they can, and if there's a particular bad storm, he keeps them in the gup I)

-Just a father figure to a lot of people he meets.

-Like Cali, he curls up into a ball when he sleeps. Unlike Cali, he's used to nothing but the Arctic winds, so he can't rlly sleep with any noise. I like to think that he has travel, noise cancelling earbuds for when he has to sleep in noiser environments.

-When Barnacles+Bianca where cubs, he'd let them snuggle up to him.

-Spoke Siberian when one/both of them were in trouble. He just speaks Siberian when he's upset in general, actually.

-Multilingual in Siberian(His native language), English, Russian, and a little Greenlandic.

-Has a bunch of Barnacle's/Bianca's childhood momentos, like scrap books, or Barnacle's sketchbooks. He also has video tapes from their childhood.

-Took the cubs to his den when ever he visited.

-Desperately misses his siblings

-Scrawny from his time in the Arctic, but is slowly gaining weight and actually taking better care of himself.

-Likes to isolate himself occasionally bc he isn't used to too much social interaction, aside from the penguins that would pass through and give him food(Stole the penguin part from another post entirely, lol. I'll be sure to find it and attach the link)

I honestly don't know if this is canon or just an analysis-based headcanon anymore, but Natquik trained both Barnacles and Tracker as a polar scout leader? I think Tracker might help as a polar scout leader (he'd probably be like a junior level bc he still wears the uniform) at his ice station or whatever which is why he wears the same logo. idk I need to rewatch that episode but I'm pretty sure this is what it is

Natquik obviously isn't a polar scout leader anymore (or maybe he is idk) or maybe he helps out in another way which is why he wears the jacket or maybe he just really likes the jacket and still has it from when he was a leader

Penny for your thoughts: K- Kwazini headcannons? 😦

OOOH I LOVE THIS QUESTION

Paani likes to teach Kwazii about recipes he knows and Kwazii goes "looks easy enough" but then proceeds to fail. Paani does not laugh at him for that and patiently teaches him how to properly cook that specific recipe

Kwazii has once introduced Paani to the video games that Tweak plays and Kwazii tells him that "it's alright to be bad at it first time," then proceeds to lose every match with Paani. Paani ends up teaching Kwazii the strategies instead

They both like to invite each other with water-related activities and Kwazii has invited Paani once to drive one of the gups underwater. When a novice driver takes a gup, it usually doesn't end well. And it didn't. So, Kwazii starts another driving lesson

They both like to show each other's collections: Kwazii's treasure chest and Paani's water sample collection

They like to exchange stories when they're not busy saving animals or researching. Paani has once been in that table in the Octopod (where the members just huddle around and talk about what happened on their missions) and talked about his adventures. Kwazii usually chimes in with "was it a sea monster?!"

Paani does not ridicule Kwazii when his theories are far-fetched. He doesn't say stuff like "you don't actually believe that, do you?" Instead, he innocently corrects him. But, he does get stressed at times when Kwazii doesn't listen. (Much like how Kwazii gets stressed when Paani doesn't listen LMAO)

There's definitely a one time that Paani has called Kwazii on his Octo-Watch in the middle of the night just to show him a critter he found or something strange going on with the water levels. This often leads to Kwazii groggily answering with half-lidded eyes and ends up sleeping on call while Paani's still talking

The two of them don't intentionally cause chaos. They're really just chaos magnets that Captain Barnacles sometimes has to make one of the Octonauts accompany them just to ensure things don't go out of hand (like in the giant weta episode)

They mention each other even if they're not together. Kwazii would be like "If Paani were here, he'd be tellin' us what salinity this lake has!" and Paani would be "Now, what would Kwazii do in this situation?"

They like to show each other the pictures they took during their missions

Paani is knowledgeable with a LOT of things and info-dumps them on Kwazii. Kwazii often reacts like what he does with Tracker but instead of "you've got your nose on that book, again?" He says "you've got your tail on that sample, again?"

Kwazii has offered to teach Paani how to swordfight in his room but Captain Barnacles, knowing how well that would go, tries to stop them from breaking Kwazii's shelves

They're both pretty good singers but Kwazii just hears Paani hum bird songs

Kwazii has once tried to have friendly rivalry with Paani like he had with Cap Barnacles but Paani doesn't pick up on this and ends up just saying "Okay, you go first," intead of saying "No. I'll go first," like what Kwazii expects him to say

There was definitely a time that they unintentionally mirrored each other's actions and they freaked themselves out when they realized it

Paani: "Well, I'll be my own uncle." Kwazii: "That's usually my line."

Head canon time:

My head cannons about the Octonauts ages.

(These are the ages I think everyone is during Above & Beyond)

Starting with the Main Crew:

Barnacles- probably somewhere in his thirties. Old enough to be an experienced Captain, but not as old as Professor Inkling. I wanna say late thirties, like 39, 40?

Kwazii- Mid-twenties, maybe 26, 27? He's old enough to be lieutenant and be experienced with driving gups. Plus, he has a mysterious pirate past so he can't be too young, but he's childish and irresponsible.

Peso- I also want to say mid-twenties. Hes pretty experienced as a doctor but is very uncertain as an octonaut, which makes me think he hasn't been with the octonauts for too long and is pretty young. maybe fresh out of medical school, so 24? 25? but in A&B there is a time skip so idk.

Tweak- She's a very skilled engineer, and she built the original octopod (which is now an artificial reef) you've got to be pretty good at building to build a giant submarine. But I also think tweak is a bit of a prodigy, and got into engineering when she was pretty young, so I'd probably say 23 or so? 26? She definitely has young energy.

Dashi- it seems like in above and beyond dashi is being trained as a second captain, so I think she's older than most of the crew. Maybe 28, 29, 30 even? She's defiantly responsible and skilled with almost everything on the octopod.

Shellington- I'd say Shellington is a similar age to Dashi, maybe 28, 29? he seems pretty experienced but might be younger idk. In the books he has the title Dr, but has also been referred to as professor, I think?

Inkling- He is very old. Like 80. Very old man.

Vegimals- don't even talk to me about the vegimals bro i have no idea

Octo-agents etc.

Panni- who knows. He has a lot in common with Kwazii so I like to think they are the same age. So probably 27.

Calico Jack- its mentioned somewhere on the octonauts wiki that he is the oldest of the octo-agents. Plus, he's kwazii's grandad. So maybe 70? 75?

Ranger Marsh- He has middle aged vibes. Like either 40 or 50. Maybe 55. He's Tweaks dad so probably pretty old.

Tracker- Knows Barnacles from Polar cubs, but defiantly has younger energy. Maybe 29? 30? 31? Old enough to run polar scouts.

Natquick- Old enough to know Barnacles when he was younger. Plus, he is a professor, which makes me think 50ish? He has boomer energy. in a good way.

Pearl- Older than Shellington, and has a child so maybe 35-37? And hangs out with Min, so yeah maybe.

Min- Knows Inkling personally and seems to get along with the Captain in the A&B bamboo episode, so I'd say maybe 40 or 50. She's definitely the mum friend.

Ryla- I think she's 46. She's an experienced cave diver and just gives of middle-aged energy. Why 46? She's just a lot like my mum.

Junior Octo-agents:

Koshi- I think she's 10 or 11. I don't think she's a teenager yet, but she's older than the other junior agents.

Pinto- 8 or 9. He seems pretty young

Periwinkle- In A&B I think he might be 7.

This is all just speculations and theories, and I haven't done much actual research, so if you have any other ideas feel free to add them <3

Things i wanna see in anb!

Let me clear up that i’m not entirely sure if anb will have a season 3(and if they do idk when it will be posted or what content it holds-this is just what I want),but i’m hopeful!Anyways on to what I wanna see.

- KWAZII AND CALICO JACK SOLO!(totally not bc they’re my favorites) Listen,ik they have had a couple of solos already,but it would be lovely to see them Bond,plus cj def does not get enough screen time-like for a character with a so much potential-he’s seen so little.

- SHELLINGTON SOLO!!As a fellow autistic person,yes we need more of him.He is so cute and to hear him info dump ab some random species would make him and the rest of the community happy☺️

- MORE OF BIANCA AND THE CUBS-LIKE PLS-why is she one of the only important characters that doesn’t have a octo-watch??I love her sm!pls give her more screen time!(also has great potential)

- Calico Jack and Ranger Marsh meeting.No need to say more.

- Calico meeting Natquik.Again need i say more.

- More tracker:) I just like tracker and I think it would be neat if him and Natquik met up at one point.

(Octonauts Season 5 Characters Are Mentioned/Shown In This, So Be Careful For Spoilers!)

I’ve been wondering, will other characters like Bianca and Hugo be Octo Agents in the future?

Sure they haven’t made much appearance in the series like the others, but I feel like it would be cool to see them again in more adventures.

Anyways I’mma go into detail on why and how they’d be an Octo Agent.

BIANCA:

Bianca is an easy one to talk about,

Other then being Barnacles’s twin sister, Bianca is a very strong person like Barnacles and from what we have seen/heard, she may be stronger! So she would definitely come in handy on certain missions involving strength.

You may be saying “But she has kids to look after.” And yes she does, but Pearl (Shellington’s sister) has a kid and is still an Octo Agent. And since Bianca’s kids (Orson and Ursa) are “Polar Scouts” like how Pearl’s kid (Periwinkle) is Scout of some sort, I’m sure she could go on adventures while they go on scout missions or something.

Now here’s the way she may become an Octo Agent/An Episode Idea:

Bianca was just looking after her den in the Arctic while her Cubs do their Polar Scout stuff, but while they’ve been gone doing that and she’s had more time to herself, she’s been noticing that Precipitation (it’s basically rain) levels have been high when they’re usually low in the Arctic. She doesn’t think too much of it until the front of den freezes with ice because water can freeze round about instantly because it’s so cold in the Arctic.

She ends up getting trapped and isn’t able to get out because the ice blocking the way out of the den is thick. The thing is that you may think she can easily dig out, well every time Bianca tries to dig her way out, the snow just keeps on collapsing and since there’s so much in her den, she could get crushed. Luckily she had a emergency signal thing on hand that alerts where Tracker is, so she sends out the signal hoping Tracker would receive it and send help.

And in fact he did, not even a second later he alerted the Octonauts and told them about the signal. They had a chat about what’s going on and seeing what’s located until both Barnacles and Tracker at the same time noticed that Bianca lived there and mentioned it. Barnacles getting worried instantly immediately said for Peso to come along for just case she’s hurt and for Kwazii to come along to lend an extra helping paw (Tbh I didn’t know if I should add Kwazii or not, I just added him cuz he hasn’t had much screen time this season cuz of his mission with Calico Jack) Tracker volunteered to come too because he knows the base he’s at isn’t too far from where Bianca is, that and Bianca is a close friend.

So once they all get there via Dashi flying them there, they look at the den and how it looks like half of it has fallen apart. Captain Barnacles ran straight to the entrance and straight away used his anchor he has on him to smash open a tiny hole in the ice so he could try to talk to Bianca. Bianca heard the ice getting smashed and went to the front, she saw Barnacles and was relieved to see them. Barnacles asked if she was alright and she said yes, she actually mentions how she’s not as scared as tight spaces as Barnacles and they have a laugh about it, Barnacles has more of a nervous laugh. Anyways Peso asks for any symptoms or any hurt parts. Bianca actually has her foot stuck in some ice that formed on her foot from the rain and it’s starting to hurt as she drags it. Kwazii mentions how they should’ve brought the Gup-S to help drill it but Barnacles says they don’t need it. Instead, Barnacles comes up with a plan on how to get Bianca out.

The plan is simple, Barnacles and Kwazii will get ready to hold the snow and ice in the entrance from falling onto anyone once Tracker breaks the ice with Barnacles’s anchor then helps Peso pull Bianca out.

The plan was going well and everything was fine, Bianca was able to get out and Tracker broke the ice off her foot and Peso was gonna bandage it, but Barnacles and Kwazii were struggling to let go of the ice and snow from falling and get away safely. Barnacles had went to count from 3 but Kwazii had started slipping on the ice and started falling into the den, Barnacles went to try and grab him as he was sliding but couldn’t because he was holding the ice and snow from falling. Bianca saw what happened and ran to go help even with her foot not being bandaged yet. Bianca ran into the den and since she’s been in there for a while, she didn’t slip because she’s use to it. So she grabs Kwazii before he goes any further down the den and ran to the entrance and tackled Barnacles so he, Kwazii and Bianca would all fall out of the way of the ice and snow. Peso and Tracker got worried that they wouldn’t make it but were glad to see them once they all fell into a tiny hill of snow.

Once they all got up and asked if each of them were ok, Bianca got her foot treated and healed up by Peso. Tracker was impressed by what Bianca did to save them even if her foot was hurt and said that it was Octo-Agent behaviour, Barnacles agreed and pulled out a spare Octo-Watch he had on him and offered it to Bianca and said she could use it whenever there’s some trouble going on. Bianca had a think about it and wasn’t really onto the idea at first, but accepted and said it’s also a good excuse to get out of the den and do more adventuring whole her kids were out doing Polar Scouts.

(Then the Octo-Report song will be about “Precipitation”)

Hugo:

Unlike Bianca, Hugo was a hard one to talk about but I was able to think of stuff.

Hugo use to be a bad sport, but now is a good one which the Octonauts remember.

He’s quite speedy as seen in the penguin race and could be a big help for dodging obstacles.

Now Here’s The Way He Could Become An Octo Agent/An Episode Idea:

When Peso was visiting his penguin family to give them a check-up, he sees Hugo waiting for him with his Mum and Brother Pinto (and maybe even other family members we are yet to see). Peso is surprised at first but Hugo tells him that a bird called a Skua is trying to eat them all and he’s protecting them. Without thinking of it too much, Peso goes to press the Octo-Alert button but Pinto asks if he can do it on his own Octo Watch because he hasn’t done it yet. Peso said yes and Pinto pressed it and alerted the Octonauts.

The Octonauts got the alert and they talked about the bird, Shellington asks if it lives in the Arctic of Antarctic because this bird can live either. They didn’t know but Shellington said the bird was probably not use to so many food options (the penguins) which is why is probably lived in the Arctic. Barnacles mentions how Kwazii could be useful for this mission, like to help distract it, but when they tried to call him, Kwazii was already busy on a mission with Calico Jack, so they had to think of something else real quick. Hugo actually stepped in and said he could distract the bird while someone gives it fish biscuits and once it calms down, tells the bird that they’ll bring them back to the Arctic. Dashi said she was still nearby from when she dropped off Peso, so she could go there to help. Barnacles agrees and says he’ll stand by if they need extra help.

Once Dashi gets there she immediately saw the bird and Hugo trying to scare it away. She threw a fish biscuit behind the Skua to lead it away for the time being so they can talk about the plan.

The plan was just Hugo distracts it and leads it to a pile of fish biscuits that Dashi had in the Octo-Ray in case of emergencies and then Peso bandages the wings to the body when eating the biscuits so the Skua couldn’t fly away or attempt to eat them easier, and tell the bird that they’ll bring it home.

Hugo goes to distract the bird while Dashi, Peso and Pinto (cuz Pinto begged to help) brought the fish biscuits from the Octo-Ray to a certain spot and started making a pile of them. It was all going well until the bird saw Peso and Pinto when heading towards the fish biscuit pile and went for them instead. Dashi was too far to body block or something, but Hugo slided on his tummy so he was faster to the bird and actually just straight up head-butted it away.

This made the bird get hurt and Hugo did feel bad and was actually the first to go and see if it was ok. He told Peso that the bird’s head needed a bandage from a bruise it got from the head-butt, Peso being the medic he is healed but the bird and made sure it was ok. The bird didn’t know why they helped him but thanked them anyways. Dashi brought over some fish biscuits and gave it to the bird so the bird would stop feeling hungry and then told the bird that they could bring him home. The bird was filled with joy and boarded the Octo-Ray with Dashi since it would be a long flight. Peso stayed behind to do those check-ups still but also talked to Hugo on how great he was today.

When flying back to pick up Peso once dropping the bird off at the Arctic, Dashi talked to Barnacles about the mission and they talked about how it was very good of him and how it showed Octo-Agent behaviour. So when Dashi came back for Peso, she gave Hugo a Octo-Watch that was already on the Octo-Ray. Hugo didn’t know why but after talking and having a tiny bit of a show-off moment, he took it and said how he could improve his skills.

(Then the Octo-Report song will be about “Skuas”)

The Beavers From Season 5:

Tbh I don’t fully understand Chinese and since Season 5 is only in Chinese rn, I couldn’t understand the episode they were in that well.

But from what I can understand, they’d be great at helping get wood out to the way which can come in handy in places like the Amazon.

I actually don’t have much to talk about them or know how’d they get an Octo-Watch, but I’d just like to see them again and help with a situation in “Above and Beyond” and become an Octo-Agent so they can help with even more stuff.

Anyways that’s all I gotta talk about for now,

I just hope these guys can become Octo-Agents at some point in the series and be apart of more stuff.

Tw: Gore

This will be a twist on the episode from season 4 of Octonauts, "Tiger Shark". What might've happened had things gone differently.

Tweak made a small sigh as she finally managed to fasten the 'Sandy Cam' as she had nicknamed it to the hard shell of her sea-dwelling friend. "There we go! The cam is on Sandy!" She said, wiping her forehead to push the strands of long hair that had fallen into her face. Grabbing a fresh carrot from the fin of the vegimal beside her, she took a quick bite, the familiar crunch of the vegetable erupting in her mouth. From the corner of her vision, she caught Barrot hiding behind a cart. A slight chuckle escaped her mouth. 'Poor thing still thinks I'm gonna eat him..'

Turning her attention back to the turtle in front of her, she gave a tug to the harness holding the camera in place. "All secure, Sandy!" She confirmed with another bite of her snack. "Dashi, open the octohatch for her!" She requested, casting a sideways glance at the fellow crewmate. The dog gave her a smile. "Already on it, Tweak!" A pull on the red labeled lever and a bit of bubbles rose from the bottom of the launch bay and her friend sunk under the water. "Bye Sandy!" She called, waving with her green-furred paw.

The large turtle gave a little wave of a flipper before gliding through the hatch to exit the mechanical ship. As she entered the water it gave her a little shiver of happiness to be back out in the open water before heading off in the direction of the reef, her flippers propelling her forward hastily.

Back inside the octonaut, Dashi pushed on a button and the screen flickered to life, showing a live feed of Sandy's surroundings. "We should get Shellington down here to look at this." Dashi spoke softly. The rabbit beside her shifted the pink ribbon tied around her head. "I have a better idea."

Soon, the three of them were settled down in the game pod, snuggled into the comfy bean bags and sipping cool smoothies as the cam showed the colorful reef surrounding Sandy. Fish of millions of colors were blurs as the turtle sped ahead, heading through tunnels and under ledges of coral. A smile spread across Tweak's face. "Whoever says Turtles are slow has never seen Sandy swim." Shellington was listing off the species of fish swimming past the cam as if it was counting the alphabet. No matter how long she could practice, she doubted she could ever do that. Even when she was raised in the Everglades with her father she had struggled to remember names of the species of creatures in her home area.

A pod of bottlenose dolphins darted past, fearful looks in their eyes and ushering the young ones in front of them with their snouts. In a panic one of them swam over Sandy, his tail smacking the cam in a circle before it stopped facing behind Sandy. A sharp gasp escaped Shellington's mouth, leaning forward. The shape of the large shark was recognizable even to tweak. "A tiger shark!" He cried out. "Sandy move!" Even before he said it, the turtle was moving. The reef became even more hazy as she moved forward at high speeds. "Did she escape?" Tweak asked nervously, not realizing she had stood up, her ears twitching anxiously.

Dashi rotated the joystick on the remote controlling the Sandy Cam. "No." The shark opened its mouth, the teeth glinting as the water refracted light. The teeth closed down and the camera flickered out to black. Tweak's feet moved on her own, throwing her carrot down and sprinting to the hatch and jumping through, soaring through the tubes and landing neatly on her feet on the familiar steel floor of her workshop. Her eyes scanned the gups before they landed on Gup-B. 'It's the fastest.' The thought flashed through her mind like an arrow before she hopped into it. Her dog friend jumped out of the hatch as the glass covering closed over her. "Dashi, open the octohatch." Her voice was cold and worry filled as she sunk down under the water.

The hatch opened as she sped through it, racing to the reef. She barely acknowledged the Gup-A in the distance, holding a returning Captain, Medic and Lieutenant of the Octonauts.

The Polar Bear gave a happy sigh. "We've officially explored the entire reef. I can't wait to go home and rest up for awhile." The two beside him made noises of agreement before snapping to attention as an orange blur raced past. Peso blinked a couple times before pressing his feathered face against the glass. "Was that..Tweak?" Kwazii had a look of pure confusion written across his face. "What's she doing in the Gup-B." Just as he said that, the radio made a static sound before Dashi's voice came through.

"Captain, the camera we put on Sandy showed a Tiger Shark chasing her. Tweak is-." The Captain cut her off. "We know, and we're right behind her." He maneuvered the Gup around and followed the stream of bubbles left behind by Tweak's driving.

Tweak slowed down where the camera last showed Sandy to be. By now, after not seeing her friend nearby and safe she was pushing down the tears threatening to well up in her eyes. "Sandy!" She called out. "Where are you?!" You could hear the desperation and fear in her voice. The Gup-A pulled up beside her. "Any sign of her Tweak?" The Bear asked, concern written across his face. The green rabbit shook her head, her ears moving constantly to pick up even the slightest sound of her friend. "N-No." She mentally scolded herself for stuttering before a rubbery band of gray slapped into her helmet. She pulled it down into her hands and examined it.

"This was the harness that held the camera on Sandy's shell.." She mumbled bleakly, her voice cracking. Kwazii's voice cut in. "It's a'ight matey, we'll find her. Promise." But even with his reassurance, it didn't help to ease her nerves. She got back into the shark-like gup. Even seeing a shape such as a shark sent a wave of determination and rage through her and she disappeared into the depths. The three left behind looked at eachother before looking at the tracker. An icon of the shark gup showed. Kwazii tuned into the radio. "See anything matey?"

Tweak's voice crackled through. "Not ye- Ah!" She swerved down as a striped shark came at her head on. "Now I do!" She yelped, speeding through the reef, the shark behind her snapping it's teeth at the gup.

Barnacles let out a growl and contacted the octopod. "Shellington! What can you tell us about Tiger Sharks?" The otter moved his hand to his chin, his eyes casted downward. "They are known as the waste baskets as the sea. They will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. They are fast and strong, making them amazing hunters, Captain." Tweak let out a noise of frustration, pressing on the wheel hard and wishing she had a carrot to chew on. She was biting her lip so hard she could taste blood. But she wasn't focused on that. She was focused on evading this shark and finding Sandy. She pressed a button and ducked behind a clearing in the coral. Dark stripes appeared on the orange metal shark, "Glad I added this Tiger Shark camouflage.." She whispered.

She lowered her head so her green head was less visible to the shark, praying she was safe. The shark swam around into the clearing and looked at her, as if debating wether to eat her first or tear her to shreds. Tweak took a deep breath, before yelling in surprise as the shark butted the gup, accidentally making her slam herself into the control panel and hit the turbo button. She yelped, the metal machine accelerating at insane speeds.

Tweak just barely lifted it up high enough to avoid the coral and crashing. Her eyes were wide, staring at the controls. She was too focused on that to notice the giant rocky reef she was heading towards.

Peso, from the Gup-A gasped and radio contacted his mechanic friend. "Tweak! Watch out! Reef ahead!"

Tweak looked up just in time and swerved around, ducking into a cave in one of the towering pillars of rock. She wasn't able to pull the gup back in time to stop it from smashing into the dead end and denting the front of the gup and shattering the glass covering. Tweak blew bubbles from her mouth, putting on her helmet and hiding behind the gup. She pressed the radio on her collar. "T-Tweak to octopod. I-..I need backup." She said desperately. She received no response. "Crap..it's broken.." She whispered.

But she went deadly still as she heard fins swimming down the tunnel, her ears lowering as she curled herself into a ball. The shark nudged the gup aside, staring hungrily at the rabbit.

Meanwhile, in the Gup-A Captain Barnacles was searching all over the reef, panicking at this point for her safety. "Tweak? Where are you?" Peso gulped nervously. "Flappity Flippers..she could be anywhere in this huge place.." Kwazii's tail lashed in anger. "Aye matey, we need to find her fast before that shark turns her into a snack!"

The Captain nodded. He wasn't showing it much on the outside, but he was worried sick. He cared for each of the crew like they were his Cubs. He didn't treat them as if they were young, but he would damn well throw himself in danger to keep any one of them safe. "Her radio isn't working. The gup tracker isn't either. We'll have to find her ourselves. Let's just hope we find her first." He huffed, eyes narrowed.

Back inside the cave, Tweak was backing herself up slowly. "Nice..shark.." She murmured. She was forcing herself not to shake, worried it might trigger the shark to attack her with brute force and sharp teeth. The shark swam forward, going around her several times before sniffing her cut arm. Tweak stiffened up completely, praying. 'Oh me, oh my..' The shark maneuvered around her again before sinking its teeth into her right arm. The rabbit cried out in pain, sucking air through her teeth. Blood rose out, swirling in the water. She raised her free hand, punching the shark in the nose to get it off before falling to the floor once it released. Soft cries of pain escaped her, holding her arm to her chest.

The shark went in for more, now attacking her leg and ripping fur off her skin and shredding the flesh. Tweak let out a screech of pain, trying to kick the animal away.

Sandy, who was surfing around the reef now, managed to hear her friend's screams and froze, going still in the water before propelling forward as fast as she could. "TWEAK?" She called out in anguish. She tried to follow the sounds of her rabbit friend, swimming around in a hurry.

By now, Tweak was screaming, the shark now biting into her stomach and thrashing her around like a rag doll. She could taste the blood in her mouth as it dribbled out, standing her fur red and clouds of blood rising into the water. Her blood. She was starting to go faint from bloodloss, the edges of her vision fading to black. 'Sorry everyone..don't think I'm gonna make it out of this one..' She thought solemnly.

Just then, a hard shell crashed into the shark, causing the now torn up octonaut to slam into the wall out of the momentum. At least she was free from the jaws of the shark. Bad news. Water was now leaking into her helmet from a crack in the glass. She wouldn't be able to breath for long.

Thankfully, a familiar voice snapped her to attention. "Tweak!? Tweak get up! Are you alive?" The hazy shape of a turtle appeared in her vision. "O-Oh no..your helmet..you're wounded badly..I-I need to get you to the surface. She nudged the limp rabbit onto her shell, before speeding out of the cave and making a race for the surface.

Tweak put her helmet down as they got there, all the water flooding out. Blood was still dripping from her mouth and forehead. "I-It h..urts.." She had to stop in the middle of her sentence to cough, blood leaving her mouth even more when she did.

Sandy let out a noise of distress. "Let me try to see if any of your crew is nearby from up here." She ducked her head into the water, looking down for any sign of them. She sighed in relief as she spotted the familiar Gup-A. "CAPTAIN BARNACLES." She yelled as loud as she could. "Up here!"

Captain Barnacles was slightly startled, but did go up. "Sandy? Are you-..." He had reached the surface now, seeing the mangled body of Tweak. Her usual fluffy green fur now matted down and stained with her own blood. Kwazii stared at her for a moment. "I- I'm gonna.." he turned around and threw up, tears running down his face. "Oh my lord.." Peso whispered. "I-I-..Is she alive..?"

Sandy looked at him anxiously. "Barely. We need to get her to the octopod. Her helmets broken. The Captain nodded. "Get her in here, Sandy." He put on his own helmet and jumped out of the gup, swimming over to the turtle and carefully lifting the mechanic from her shell. "Alright, Tweak..your safe now.." He went back under for a few moments and came back inside the octopod. "We have a lot of work to do to keep her alive.." He mumbled.

[MF] The Prince of Atlantis

As I ran out onto the beach and grabbed my blue and black surfboard, I felt the cool sea spray hit my nose. Then, the salty smell of the ocean burned my nose. My dad, Nathaniel Antoniuo, grabs his board and we hit the water. I heard the waves crashing and I got excited. Once we get out pretty far, I tried to ask my dad about my mother. I said, “Alright, I’m sixteen now, you need to tell me what happened to my mother.” All he said was what he usually says. “She died in a shipwreck,” he explains, “off the coast of Morocco after you were born.” I asked him, “Well, can’t you at least tell me what her name was?” He said, “I don’t like to talk to you about her because I miss her, and I don’t want you to obsess over who she was, what’s done is done.” I sighed and we sat in a moment of silence before he says, “Diana. Her name was Diana.” We caught a few great waves, then I ask him, “What’s with my stupid name?” He said, “Dylan, your mother loved that name and we found it fitting since I had grown up by the sea. In fact, that’s what it means, son of the sea.” He then asked me, “Do you want to go on an expedition tomorrow?” He explained, “It’s off the coast of Morocco, supposedly where Atlantis was. We might find some valuable artifacts.” I asked, “What’s the point, we already have billions of dollars from grandpa and grandma’s company?” He said, “It’s not about money, it’s about history and you are getting a chance no other kids get. Also, I want to finally visit the place where your mother died. At least you will finally get to meet the crew.” We went back in to the penthouse, stopping at the garage to drop our boards off on the way up.

That night, my dad showed me a video presentation of the crew and their purposes in the team. Dale was an ex-Navy SEAL who served as the muscle and munitions expert of the team. He was there if we would encounter any dangerous sea life or environments. Next was Laura, who was the technology expert of the crew. She piloted submarine and controlled the computer systems. Lastly, there was Cassie, who is a marine biologist. She was there to catalog any new or rare species of marine life we could possibly encounter. I went to sleep in my bed down the hall, with thoughts of the trip tomorrow.

The next morning, we met at Miami International Airport, and got on my dad’s private jet. It’s usually around a 13 hour flight from Miami to Morocco, but my dad’s plane can make it in 3 hours because Laura created a special hyperjet engine. Laura also engineered a special fuel cell that is way more efficient than conventional jet fuel and doesn’t burn up at supersonic speeds. On the flight, I noticed that Dale was reading a book that I had read before. I asked him if he liked it and he said he did. We talked about that for a little bit, then my dad and I watched a movie.

When we landed in Morocco, the bright sun hit my eyes like a train. The heat burned my skin. After my eyes had adjusted, it was time for us to get to the harbor. I stared at the beautiful ocean on our car ride to the harbor. We got the sub ready for the expedition. It was different from most subs you would see in military films or submersibles like you would see in documentaries about the deepest parts of the ocean. Instead, it had four turbines in the back, a big clear polymer window in the front, and multiple levels. It was overall a cube shape. The top level was the bridge and computer level. The level below was the sleeping level. The next level housed the galley and a meeting hall with a high ceiling. The level down was an armory that also stored our diving suits, oxygen tanks, and dive helmets. The level down from that had small speed boats that could go under water for brief periods of time and could make it to the surface for escapes. The bottom level was the marine biology level that consisted of: a database of all marine life, an airlock for bringing marine life into the ship, cameras with an artificial intelligence that could recognize marine life that had not yet been catalogued, a tracker rack, robotic assistants with arms that would help hold down large animals and a large examination table.

The trip to the dive site was around an hour away from the harbor. During this hour, I pretty much just hung out in my quarters. I watched a little TV, and about halfway through my fourth episode, all of the lights and systems went dark. I went and asked my dad, “What’s up?” He explained that all of the systems had been shut down except for the emergency lights, pressurization, engine, and oxygen hoses for the dive suits by some sort of electromagnetic pulse. He then explained that we were only about a half a mile away from the dive site and that we would be there very soon. He then debriefed the crew an me on our mission: we were to go out with our suits on and search for anything. We were to look for ruins, artifacts, or statues. Anything we found would be proof that Atlantis exists.

When my dad finished the debriefing, there was a loud bang and we all lurched forward as the sub suddenly stopped. We had arrived and it was finally time to suit up and go out into the deep. Laura would stay back on the sub and try and get the sub’s systems up and running while the crew, my father, and me would suit up and get into the water. We entered the airlock and the sound of the door slamming behind us startled me. Then, there was a hissing sound as the air lock’s vents opened up,the air was let out and the water rushed in. After that, the outside door opened into the dark blue water. We turned on the lights on our helmets and swam out. We saw some ruins and decided to swim deeper. Suddenly, a large rock fell on my suit and crushed my helmet. My dad told me to hold my breath as he and Dale rushed over. They tried lifting the rock, but the only way to get me out was by pulling my helmet off. There was no way I would survive the pressure, let alone be able to see or breathe.

My dad decided to pull me out. What was he thinking? There was no way I would survive! I decided to close my eyes and hope for the best. Once I was out of the helmet, there was a bright blue flash of light that knocked back my dad and the crew. It also destroyed my suit. I was wearing only my small diving shorts, the length of basketball shorts, but skintight. My heart started racing. How could was I still breathing? What was that flash of light? How could I see this deep underwater? I saw thousands of statues of people. I thought about the theory they something similar to what happened to Pompeii had happened to Atlantis and was the reason for its disappearance.

Then, I noticed that in front of these statues was what appeared to be a trident. It was tarnished and covered in barnacles, but I was still drawn to it. I noticed that my birthmark on my back was glowing and with each step closer to the trident, it became brighter and brighter. As I got closer, I realized that the statues truly were statues and not people that had been encased in pyroclastic ash, for they were very detailed and their facial features had been preserved. When I touched the trident, I realized that my birthmark was actually a tattoo and it was starting to mark the rest of my body with tattoos. Then, I adjusted my grip on the trident and the rust and barnacles fell off.

Then, I was killed by an unknown warrior from the surface world and Atlantis was forced to go into hiding and cut ties with the surface world. Eventually, we decided it would be time for a new heir to the throne of Atlantis, so I let your mother become flesh once more to carry the baby of a successful explorer of the mighty seas. She then returned to us and became a statue again, giving you father the impression that she had died in a shipwreck. The people went through a process called stuatization, where enchanted rock is bonded to their bodies, which will become flesh once Atlantis is restored. Also, the buildings of Atlantis shall be rebuilt. You have the power to do just that, by rising up this trident, you shall raise Atlantis.”

I raised the trident and Atlantis started to build itself up, almost growing like an organism. The people became flesh again and were overwhelmed with joy. Atlantis was lifted up by very large stilts that were pushing up against the ocean floor. A dome formed. Its purpose was to drain the water and be full of oxygen so that humans could come to Atlantis. The light shone over the throne of Atlantis once again. I finally got to see my mother. She was beautiful, just as I had imagined her as a child and seen in pictures. She brought my father over to us and then spoke with him. The crew would stay here, in Atlantis. Dale would join the Atlantean Army. Laura would learn about Atlantean technology and and magic. Cassie would modify our submarine with Atlantean parts to find more species and catalogue them, then stay at Atlantis for some time, then go on another expedition.

It had been a few weeks since Atlantis was raised to my coronation ceremony. I wanted to get the city up and running before I could have a fancy ceremony. The first thing I did was make sure the seaweed farm was ready. Algae would grow on the seaweed, which would then be eaten by snails. Those snails would be eaten by fish, and those fish would be brought to the Atlantean fish farmer to be fed to bigger fish. After that, we built factories and power plants for Atlantis. I then had Atlantis go public. We would no longer be secluded from the rest of the world. We declared ourselves to be allies of the United States, and even built an embassy. My father decided to stay in the Royal Palace of Atlantis with me and my mother. He donated his fortune to companies cleaning up the world’s oceans and to building various orphanages.

My ceremony was one of extreme joy. The Royal Band of Atlantis played. The palace was adorned with banners with tridents on them. My throne was covered in gold and my trident shone in the refracted sunlight from the dome over Atlantis. I walked up to my throne, sat, and the people–both human and Atlantean–erupted in applause. There was a gala following the ceremony. At the gala, there was the finest fish in the sea, fresh seaweed, squid, and various other traditional Atlantean dishes. I talked with an Atlantean girl for a long while. We planned to go out to dinner the following week. When the gala was finished, I explored the Atlantean Palace and went to sleep in my new bed.

I think Barnacles, Kwazii, and Tweak all deserve to individually hang out with each other's parental figures at some point. (ie: Barnacles gets an episode with Calico Jack/Ranger Marsh, Tweak gets Natquik/Calico Jack, etc.)

Any thoughts on what could have possibly happened during the time between the Octopod crashing in A&B, and it being repaired and the Octoray being added in?

Like what would the crew have been doing during that time. Their home was just destroyed and they had no way of continuing their job while it was repaired.

So what would have been doing? (Fully just headcanon what you want for this)

👀 Okay so as for the Octoray, I headcanon that Tweak and Barnacles were already working on it long before the events of The Skeleton Coast. The way Barnacles brought up "working together" with Paani, makes me feel like the Octo-Agent program was something that had been in the back of his mind for a while. He just needed an excuse to put it into action, and meeting Paani inspired him to finally do that.

(Dashi probably helped with the Octoray's construction, but I like to imagine her being made the Captain of it was a surprise.)

Tweak being able to get the Octopod standing in order to bring all that water to the elephants was impressive as heck—but it was done very rushed, and she was probably still running on pure adrenaline at that point after the crash. So unless we're about to see the Octopod fall apart or break down in a future ep as a result of the rushjob, it's safe to assume she took a MUCH longer time making it sea-worthy again.

Now what the heck were they doing in all that time?? 👇

They could've been living in the unfinished Octoray, but I feel like they'd have the same problem as when they lived in the OctoLab (much smaller space, no privacy, etc.)...

BUT the Octoray was being built in the Repair Station, so depending on how much damage was left from the ROF incident, they could've been living there. This makes the most sense to me, because it would mean they would still all be together, and they would've had access to at least some of the GUPs.

They also could've been living with their families; or at least, Kwazii, Shellington, Peso, and maybe Inkling—since the others were fixing the Octopod. For them, it would've been like a real, uninterrupted vacation, instead of what they got in The Arctic Adventure, or Kwazii's coconut crisis ordeal. Just plain relaxation. (or as well as they could relax knowing their home is destroyed, but ✨ yeah ✨)

Barnacles specifically was probably having a Really Bad Time™. You can imagine why, I'm sure. No matter what they were doing, it was not fun for him. He's either missing his crew, or stressed about the Octopod/crash. He definitely blamed himself for it, and didn't feel better until everything got back to normal.

👀 Then there's also the question of the Octowatches, because all the agents were given them upon recruitment, and they're brought up a couple times in a "Hey Look At My Cool Octowatch™ It's So Useful" way (Tracker using Shellington's creature collection, CJ's first Octo-Alert; talking about how much Pete loves it, etc.) but the Octonauts themselves aren't given them until the 2nd episode, and that part is never explained.

Tweak probably built 8 watches, knowing who Barnacles was considering for the Agent program. Paani's was originally going to be given to Bianca, but Barnacles was on the fence about asking her in the first place, so he gave it to him instead. It wasn't until after the whole thing finally got set in motion, that they realized it would be a good idea for all the Octonauts to have them too. Tweak offered to make Barnacles' Octocompass into a watch for him, but he declined. Inkling just didn't want one.

I don't know how to end this post non-abruptly but those are my headcanons okay byeeeeeee— ✨👋💞 xD

Been rewatching A&B series and I wondered one thing...

Was Tracker aware of the fact that Barnacles has Claustrophobia?

Im pretty sure he isnt.

I'm pretty sure he is.

Evidence 1: He was there when it happened.

That's little Tracker!! He was right front in center, peering down the hole, and helping him get back on his feet. When Barnacles is safe, Bianca and Tracker BOTH hug him.

Evidence 2: When he falls into a hole himself in the missing lake, he has to call Barnacles and tell him what happened...

His tone shifts when he starts explaining his situation. He goes from professional, to nervous, in only a second. He could be embarrassed about getting himself stuck, but I like to imagine he was also thinking about Barnacles, and remembering the time he went through the exact same thing.

Evidence 3: They are very good friends. They have been friends since they were cubs, and Barnacles is the reason Tracker has his position/job in the Polar Emergency Post. You don't go through a lifelong friendship with someone, without learning a few things about them; so it's hard for me to believe that Tracker wouldn't know about his fear.

What are your thoughts surrounding the Golden Mole episode if you’ve watched it? Personally, I really enjoy it, but I was kind of taken aback by the way Kwazii was acting at the start? His writing at points in A&B in general makes me feel a way, the difference has been a big adjustment. You always tie things together with your character analyzations very well, so I’m curious to know your take on this one! It might even make me feel less thrown off by it :)

I've noticed Kwazii's been written differently too, and I've got theories about it ofc (see closing thoughts), but in regards to the Golden Mole episode I actually think his behavior was pretty in character. I think Kwazii has a fear of rejection (because of how often he is rejected due to being a pirate), and he seems to be very aware of how people view him, and will either over-compensate by toning down his energy (or at least trying to, like in the Puffins.) or try to make himself seem cooler and more capable than he is if he notices someone likes him, like he did with Pinto that one time.

He also did this in The Combtooth Blenny; where he spent the entire time trying to make Peso think he had everything in control, even though he didn't. That's pretty similar to what's happening in The Golden Mole.

The Combtooth Blenny and The Golden Mole are pretty similar episodes overall: Kwazii and Peso stuck on a desert island with no communication vs. Kwazii and Tracker stuck in a desert with no communication, Kwazii desperate to seem like a capable leader type, Peso (implied to be) as a new Octonaut vs. Tracker as a new Octo-Agent, etc.. (cough cough wanna point out UK Peso and Tracker's shared voice actor just because cough cough-)

Analysis time now:

Right away we can tell Tracker thinks Kwazii is cool, just from the way he looks at him (either in awe or nervousness), and is eager to please him. We see this trait of his when we first meet him in Operation Deep Freeze when he excitedly calls them "The Octonaut guys!!! :D" and then shouts "Cool!!" when Barnacles promises to keep him posted. Tracker is a follower by nature, not a leader. He'd much prefer to let ANYONE else tell him what to do, rather than follow his own instincts or take charge. So Kwazii? Octonaut guy?? Perfect person to listen to—definitely not gonna question his judgement at all. Wouldn't dream of it.

...Even when it backfires on them both.

Tracker is very strong, smart, and capable on his own, and he seems to know that—but he's still very insecure in his own intuition; and tends to put others before himself, kind of like how Barnacles does. He says at one point in S2 (paraphrasing here-) that in the Polar Scouts; "they are taught to help anyone who needs it, no matter what." and I think he and Barnacles both indirectly learned their self-worth issues from this (like: “When you see a creature in trouble, it is YOUR duty to help them. Your own safety comes second.” ). He's a great Polar Scout, and he's desperate to be seen as a good Octo-Agent by the Octonauts.

(Octonauts™ at it again with the parallels <3) Tracker has literally never left the Arctic before; another reason why he wants to trust Kwazii so badly. He’s out of his element, but Kwazii’s been around the world, he should know about deserts, right? One way I wish Kwazii had been written differently in this episode, would be him being a bit more worried about Tracker. He knows they're in this situation because he messed up—and Barnacles likely trusted Kwazii to take care of him. So if he had maybe panicked with Tracker when they lost their backpack, instead of just standing there, or if he asked him how he was doing once or twice, that would’ve been better. (In the CombBlenny, he gets visibly frustrated a few times, before putting on a brave face for Peso. In this episode he kinda just dissociates when Tracker freaks out, and it’s a little awkward.)

I do really like this scene at the end where Kwazii reassures Tracker, and gives him his book back. It feels like Kwazii is trying to apologize to him in his own way.

Also I think Tracker would've passed the test no matter what. He was the only agent who got any sort of test. He probably asked Barnacles for one, and it got made up on the spot. He would've passed even if he completely failed, because it was just a confidence booster exercise; like how 99% of Peso's S1 training was just confidence boosting disguised as serious training. Barnacles couldn’t actually train Peso on how to be an Octonaut or a medic, because he was already both of those from the start; he just needed to be taught how to trust himself.

Closing off with more Kwazii thoughts: I think he's being written differently on purpose. There has been a timeskip, and everyone seems a bit more mature now (it's most obvious in Peso and the Vegimals, and Dashi in some aspects). It could just be that he toned down a bit as he got older; but I've noticed that he's written the most weird whenever he's partnered with Calico Jack. He acts more immature and just... off? and in my head it's because he really hasn't seen CJ since he was a kitten, so he isn't sure how to act around him (plus he REALLY wants to impress his granddad). We also know that CJ's been teaching Kwazii stuff, so that could be another factor in his personality/vibe shift. The times I've found where Kwazii acts the most like himself- are the times he's alone with the other Octonauts, and I think that's interesting.
