#Natquik is a father figure

More Head canons!! Natquik edition^^. Also, ignore how green his clothes are. I'm using watercolor pencils, and they're a new medium for me, so bare with me when it comes to blending colors.

Head canons

-Gay Aro/ace (In the sense that he falls in love slowly and rarely. Same dude, same)

-He/him

-Adopted Barnacles and Bianca when they were cubs. They had yet to leave the den and were both starting to whine bc they missed their parents

-Gets overwhelmed by noises, like in general. He learns to deal with it, but if there's a noise he's not used to/not rlly expecting, then he's more likely to get overwhelmed.

-Autism core, but hides it rlly well.

-Loved doing surprise snowball fights with the cubs in Polar Scouts.

-Polar scouts surprised him by using the skills they were learning to surprise Natquik with a surprise snowball and it worked. He was stupid proud of everyone afterwards and decided to reward them. (Idrk how, tbh)

-Yk those foxes in that one episode where his den was broken into?? Yeah, well he visits them every year and brings them food and what not. Same with the Penguins at the end of the same episode.

-He essentially has like 4 families:

+His Biological one (His siblings are alive and think he's dead and he thinks his siblings are dead)

+Barnacles and Bianca (and Tracker to a certain extent

+The foxes. (They send him pictures of the baby foxes milestones, and he tears up everytime)

+The penguins. (They visit him when they can, and if there's a particular bad storm, he keeps them in the gup I)

-Just a father figure to a lot of people he meets.

-Like Cali, he curls up into a ball when he sleeps. Unlike Cali, he's used to nothing but the Arctic winds, so he can't rlly sleep with any noise. I like to think that he has travel, noise cancelling earbuds for when he has to sleep in noiser environments.

-When Barnacles+Bianca where cubs, he'd let them snuggle up to him.

-Spoke Siberian when one/both of them were in trouble. He just speaks Siberian when he's upset in general, actually.

-Multilingual in Siberian(His native language), English, Russian, and a little Greenlandic.

-Has a bunch of Barnacle's/Bianca's childhood momentos, like scrap books, or Barnacle's sketchbooks. He also has video tapes from their childhood.

-Took the cubs to his den when ever he visited.

-Desperately misses his siblings

-Scrawny from his time in the Arctic, but is slowly gaining weight and actually taking better care of himself.

-Likes to isolate himself occasionally bc he isn't used to too much social interaction, aside from the penguins that would pass through and give him food(Stole the penguin part from another post entirely, lol. I'll be sure to find it and attach the link)

okay okay so some explanation:

kwazii: self explanatory really. it’s kwazii.

shellington: totally hc him as aroace and so oblivious and i love him sm for it

paani: might accidentally flirt or attempt occasionally, but most of the time is so completely oblivious. he’s got sm autistic rizz.

inkling: okay don’t come for me he has a really really nice voice okay?? i’m working through it still 😭😭

peso: okay unpopular opinion probably bc of this one wild 120k fic i read in one go but i totally think peso isn’t as naive and innocent as everyone thinks he is and he totally uses that to his advantage. like, not even with flirting, but in general like with cursing and stuff. but i feel like he’s not as oblivious as he pretends to be, and when he chooses to flirt holy shit this guy can flirt. 10/10 best twink 4ever <3

barnacles: i have. many thoughts about barnacles. but, all i will say is that he is so completely oblivious to how hot everyone thinks he is and he has sm unintentional rizz. he will accidentally flirt with like random people he helps or comes across and he has no idea why they keep swooning and calls peso over cuz he’s concerned and peso just is like *sigh*. also, i know fictives aren’t their sources but our barnacles is pretty damn close and when he first split me and peso spent weeks simping over him before another headmate forced us to sit down and explain this to him (which was one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life btw, fuck u eddie /lh)

dashi: i am a hardcore tweak/dashi shipper all the way, and while i think dashi is a very professional person (dog?), i think she’s also really good with people and knows how to use her skills to get what she wants. i think she totally worked in like customer service or something pre-octonauts and that she would charm her clients and customers almost instinctively. however, flirting for her, while common, is something she doesn’t really view as flirting flirting? like, it’s just something she does to steer the conversation in a more favorable direction. she very rarely actually means it, or genuinely tries to flirt, so that’s why she’s not where kwazii is. she was struggling with tweak though lol.

tweak: i think tweak is similar to dashi, she’s not naive and she certainly is good at flirting and probably did a lot of flirting and uh sleeping around in the past (who doesn’t love a butch lesbian mechanic), but i also think that she just. doesn’t really care. fhjffjjgdg like she likes having fun and stuff but generally outside of her video games and her inventions she does not give a shit about much lmao. not in like, a bad way or anything. she just never really saw the point of a social life yk? and the octonauts are an exception, that’s family it’s different. but she’s always had more important shit to do than playing social games.

Hearing A Noise! Professor Atka Sergei Natquik ====================

Grrrrrrrrrr, I love him sm grrrrrrrrr

Natquik : His design has changed a hundred times through my time drawing Octonauts, and at first he was albino, then he wasn't, then he was again, and so and so on. But the more I thought of it, I didn't like his design, although I did enjoy the albinism part, so it stuck around to be strictly "Ocular Albinism," which only affects the eyes and is consistent with his species, because Arctix foxes have poor eyesight. He wears snow goggles most of the time to help his eyes out (it's what he's holding in the artwork).

I also thought about how I was going by "their skintone represents their fur/animal skin" so I finally decided I'd make him a grey-ish dark hue to match Peso and Barnacles (and the other bears). I just made everything a little more de saturated, and I finally got an outcome that I love! He is adorable and baby and itty bitty and old and a sweet heart <33

Now for a bit of LORE because he's honestly one of my favorite characters, and I have yet to talk about his lore :

He is of mixed Russian and Chuckchi (Siberian Natives, technically different from Inuit but similar) blood, Chuckchi on his mother's side, and Russian on his father's. He speaks both languages fluently, along with English, but when alone or with the bears/close friends (Octo-Dads included), he prefers his native tongues. His Native name, "Atka," means "guardian spirit," and his Russian name, "Sergei," means "protector." His parents (and me) thought it would be a poetic touch to be promised protection and the strength to protect others in both of his cultures.

In his youth (16-19) years, he lives isolated in the Siberian tundra with his parents and siblings, but he has always enjoyed exploring the farther reaches of his homeland. So, while wandering one day, he came across a group of explorers from England, and during their stay, they taught him English and sparked his interest in a life beyond the Arctic. So, at 19, he traveled back to England with the explorers and went to college to become a professor [he used to be more in touch with the explorers, but now they have all gone]. After that was when he returned to the Arctic and became the Polar Bear Scouts Leader and taught Barns and the other bears until he quit (shortly after Tracker joined, and when Barns was 16) and vanished without a trace. Barns, of course, was extremely upset, but Natquik, seeing him as a son-figure, left him a note explaining that "why I left is not your fault, but just know that I will be fine and that I will always miss you."

Why he left only he knows, even to the modern day. Barns wants to ask, but because of how modern-day Natquik has.... kinda lost it (isolation for 30 years will do that you) he doesn't for fearing of breaking Natquik more. In the present day [60 years old], Natquik is paranoid, skittish, and prone to panic attacks, but well-meaning, cheery, and ready to help. He loves his new job as an Ocotagent but worries himself sick he's doing it all wrong (again, he forgot how to socialize. It was isolation's fault).

He prefers his alone time and personal space while having no sense of it for others. He's clingy, especially with loved ones (ships and canon relationships), and calls Barnacles nearly every night just to talk. It keeps him sane.

This was all very headcanon-y and self-indulgent, but I'm having fun and doing my best to stick to canon personalities, albeit with a bit of offscreen ✨️flavor.✨️

Octonauts Star Trek AU!

Ship name: USS Nautilus

Timeline: 24th Century A.D. (The Next Generation/Deep Space 9 era)

The crew:

Captain Barnacles: ship captain (obviously). For those of you who know Star Trek, he is a mix between Picard and Sisko’s personalities, but leaning more towards Sisko. Canadian.

First officer: Commander Kwazii. Has a mysterious past as a space pirate. A bit of a daredevil. British.

Second officers:

Technically, Lieutenant Commander Shellington is the official second officer, but since Dashi holds the same rank, she’s also (if not more of) the second officer. The two of them are often seen together.

Lt. Commander Shellington: Chief science officer. Grew up in Scotland. Specializes in exobiology, and has a doctorate. Never goes anywhere without his satchel. He also specializes in linguistics and alien cultures. Very close with Dashi (you can decide what this means).

Lt. Commander Dashi: Chief of operations. Good at computer programming, flying ships, and all sorts of stuff. In her spare time, she loves photography and playing mystery games on the holodeck with Shellington. Species: Trill (joined). She’s the fifth host of her symbiont. Even though she’s only in her 20s, she often seems wise beyond her years.

Dr. Peso: Chief medical officer. Latino (haven’t decided exactly what country, but probably somewhere in South America.) Has anxiety disorder. Very brave, despite being scared easily. Sees Barnacles as a father figure, and Shellington as an older brother.

Lt. Tweak: Bajoran/human hybrid. Chief engineer of the Nautilus, which she helped design. Grew up in the South.

Professor Inkling: the eldest crew member. A very knowledgeable scientist. Shellington really looks up to him.

Other crew members:

Lt. Pearl (Shellington’s older sister)— science officer, specializing in environmental science.

Ensign Periwinkle (Peri)— Pearl’s young son. Very curious. Takes after his uncle.

Ensign Koshi: Dashi’s little sister. Loves anything to do with mysteries.

Lt. Paani: Science officer #4. The Nautilus has a lot of scientists, since it’s a research vessel.

Ensign Pinto: Peso’s little brother.

Lt. Ryla (ship’s archaeologist). An old friend of Dashi. Australian.

Professor Natquik: An old friend of the captain. Grew up in Siberia.

Ensign Tunip: species unknown. Shellington’s adopted child.

Lt. Min. Specializes in cartography.

Junior Lt. Tracker: Communications officer.

Other notes:

Inkling, Min, and Natquik are the three oldest crew members.

Inkling often uses a hover chair to move around, but he can walk if he wants to.

Going with Octonauts canon, Kwazii’s eye patch is purely for show.

First of all, Captain Barnacles:

He was born, and raised through the Polar Scout program with his twin sister Bianca. Through this program, he met Professor Natquik and Tracker (and possibly Boris the Narwhal).

At some point during his scout days, he met Professor Inkling, who had found himself trapped in the Arctic somehow, and had to be rescued by the cubs (including Barnacles).

Natquik was Barnacles’ mentor and father figure who was forced to leave the Arctic so he could do research in Antarctica. Tracker joined the Polar Scouts soon after he left, and he never made it back home. He was stuck in the Antarctic for at least 20 years, maybe longer.

When Barnacles was a cub, some ice cracked from underneath him and he got stuck in a very deep hole for a very long time, and he now has PTSD from the event.

Sometime after he graduated Scouts, he got a position on a ship called the MV Manitoba. It’s very likely (but not canon...... yet-) that he met Tweak on this ship.

The ship crashed, he returned home to the Arctic, reunited with Tracker, and trained him to run the Polar Emergency Post Station.

After that, he was asked by Professor Inkling to be Captain of the Octonauts.

Kwazii. This cat has so much story potential but I will say right now that a LOT of it is speculation/theory. MOST of what I'm about to say is canon though:

Kwazii is different from other pirates, and has been since he was little. Pirates are scary and mean, just like the legends, but Kwazii is kind and good.

Kwazii was born to a huge family of pirates. His grandfather, Calico Jack (aptly named after real life pirate “Calico Jack”), is one of the most famous pirates who ever lived, and they look a lot alike.

Calico Jack left his family/crew behind “in search of the Hidden City of Gold” (so he said), when Kwazii was just a little kitten.

Kwazii was abandoned by his family for being weak (kind, soft, etc.).

He chose to NOT be a pirate at one point in his life...

(This might be what caused his family to abandon him; ie. he made a big show one night about not wanting to be like them, and they were like “ok walk the plank then.” and he did.)

...but then RECHOSE to be a pirate again after learning about his grandfather.

He was a pirate of his own making for a while, with no crew,

Before getting found by Barnacles/The Octonauts and joining them.

All cats in this universe seem to be pirates, plus Kwazii wears an eyepatch and speaks generally very piratey, so despite being an Octonaut creatures are always afraid of him because they recognize him as a pirate--

and it’s very sad because all he wants to do is help but he keeps getting attacked-- [*sobs*]

Peso:

Lil guy was SO insecure in seasons 1-2+½.

He was very dependent on others, and always compared himself to his friends (mainly Barnacles and Kwazii).

He has a HUGE family, including a little brother, big brother (his name is Pogo but we haven’t met him yet, he’s mentioned in the blobfish episode), and one million cousins.

It’s possible that growing up around so many other penguins, that he did get compared to them quite a bit, and/or never fully got to shine. Which is why he’d get so flustered being in the spotlight in s1-2.

His dependency issues are interesting, because Peso gets his best character growth moments when he’s forced to be by himself. (Vampire Squid, Aggregate Anemones, Spookfish, CONE SNAIL, and more.)

He’s also the youngest and newest recruit on the Octopod, so that’s fun. He hasn’t been around for very long; we see him going through training in season 1, so he probably joined off-screen sometime right before the first episode.

Shellington:

We don’t know too much about Shellington, but we DO know that he is a sea otter who is allergic to urchins: meaning he literally cannot do the one thing sea otters are expected to do (eat urchins so they don’t destroy kelp forests) and y’know that’s gotta be pretty stressful.

He discovered the Vegimals himself, and named all of them. He incubated and hatched their eggs in his lab, and has been studying them ever since, and that’s how he picked up their language.

Dashi doesn’t have much going for her, not gonna lie. The most she’s ever gotten is in The Caves of Sac Actun, where they revealed she did cave diving with Ryla.

aaaaaaaand I can’t go too deep into Inkling or Tweak without significantly spoiling Season 5, but there is a little bit I can say about Tweak:

She grew up the in the Florida Everglades with her father, as a creature tracker and outdoorsy kid.

Somewhere along the line she started building gadgets and gizmos.

She then [REDACTED SPOILERS], and eventually (again, not canon yet-) joined the Manitoba crew where she met Barnacles.

She was the first ever official Octonaut, as she was there before they were even called "The Octonauts".

She built the first Octopod. It crashed; she built the second Octopod. She built all the gups.

and the rest that I could say about her is just theory and speculation 😅

AND I really wanna ramble about Calico Jack real quick: He has a VERY mysterious past—he is kind and good like Kwazii, but it's implied he wasn't always like that. He was hiding out in the Amazon River for almost 20 years, claiming he was "stuck", but was able to leave with ease the second he had a reason to. He's terrified of disappointing Kwazii, and Captain Barnacles too now that he's an Octo-Agent, and I just think that's really interesting. 👀👀

also not sure if it counts but in the books there were cities, towns, and kingdoms, so a lot of people like to imagine that there are still cities full of animal-people out there somewhere in the showverse. especially since there's multiple instances of the Octonauts picking up trash, including tires, grocery bags, etc., that's polluting the ocean that they say "was thrown away", Tweak mentioning "ordering parts" from somewhere, plus Dashi's side gig with "National Seaographic".

There's ALSO like,,, a whole Thing regarding the difference between animals and animal-people that's been sparked by Above and Beyond, because there's been a lot of non-anthro cats, bears, there was a picture of a bunny at one point, plus the entire Red Fox episode directly addressing the topic of animal instinct and the differences between arctic foxes (Natquik) and red foxes (new non-anthro character); but we don't know how far they're going to go with this.

Octonauts Headcanons (Barnacles)

Captain Barnacles:

He goes to Inkling whenever he is close to breaking down. The professor never asks him to share anything, and will simply hold his hand and talk to him until he calms down (no matter how long it takes).

He is the father figure to most of the Octonauts (and Octo-Agents), Dashi and Peso being the main two.

Mr. “Hurt? No, I’m fine. Just doing my job!”

 Possibly the highest pain tolerance out of the crew and agents, Ranger Marsh coming in as a close second.

Hides most of his stimming.

Professor Natquik has been the only person to see Barnacles fully lose it (whether it had been his temper or simply slipping into a breakdown).

Not the kind of person to share his backstory, he doesn't want anyone to know exactly what kind of life he came from, therefore only sharing some of his more fond memories of the "Polar Scouts” (which is possibly the only fond memories he has of his younger years).

At one point he was highly into theater; continues to practice in his room (performing old Shakespearean plays).

Understands most modern lingo, but loves using it incorrectly to fuck with the rest of the crew. He adores the way they fume when he uses those phrases wrong.

Probably avoids direct eye contact or he just stares. Man does not know what to do with his eyes when talking to somebody (became self-conscious over it after Shellington accidentally pointed it out).

He might have been a pirate (maybe a merchant)- or an outlaw- before becoming the Captain of the Octonauts.

Definitely has a tattoo of a Polar Bear across his back (and probably a couple others).

Literally has no heat tolerence whatsoever (where he grew up in colder regions).

He would probably wear a tank-top in Canadian winters if you gave him the chance (Kwazzi calls him crazy).

Competes in ice swimming competitions (and has won many times, but keeps the trophies in a chest in his room).

Accordion is a comfort item (as well as his compass and Admiral Sweaty Sock)

"Sound the Octo-alert!" is one of, if not his favorite phrase to say- and he grows rather upset if things go out of his control or out of order, and he grows rather lost and has to regain his thoughts (this is like half-canon).

Always zoning out and bumping into things.

He has probably gotten the gups mixed up more than once. 

Claustrophobia (fear of tight spaces) and Autophobia (extreme fear of being alone) is some of his worst fears. Though, he probably also has:  1. Temporary Acrophobia (fear of heights). 2. Slight Agoraphobia (fear of open/crowded places). 3. Phasmophobia (fear of ghosts/paranormal). 4. Necrophobia (fear of death).

Was an oddball of his family, having more interest in the world than himself (Bianca was similar but was less reckless).

Back to your regularly scheduled program:

He will step back and let someone else lead the way, but will always be there to help them if they need it.

Listens to sea-shanties with Kwazzi (and on occasion, Calico Jack).

Book smart, but also has "street" smarts and tricks (due to his days before being Captain of the Octonauts).

Is severely injured a couple of times a year, typically due to selflessness.

Cuddling is his love language, but he hates when people randomly walk up and touch him without asking him first (especially people who like to mess with his hair).

Most definitely broke a couple of bones when he was a kid (his older sister called him reckless, but he didn't mind. He was more dangerous than Kwazzi when he (Barnacles) was younger).

Keeps a picture of the crew on him at all times- even if it's on his compass.

Bianca (his sister) and her children (Ursa and Orson) mean the world to him, and he often finds himself calling her to make sure she's alright with her two little ones running around.

Knows Norse and Greek mythology incredibly well, and adores sitting down with the lights off and reading a book about them underneath the light of a lantern.

Will often recite various sentences of random stories he’s read, especially when he feels it’s appropriate. 

Writes in fine cursive, though when ordered to write in print, it's sloppy and hard to read.

When in need, he'll talk to Kwazzi because he thinks the world of his lieutenant and hates to see them concerned for his well-being.

Grows concerned super fast, especially if a member of the crew seems out of character (he picks up the smallest changes in behavior and will often talk with the person [awkwardly]- especially with Shellington and Kwazzi).

Cried because Shellington remembered his birthday.

Internalized homophobia (for a while), but is outwardly supporting to everyone else.

Probably takes online quizzes when he's bored (proudly admits he's Feta Cheese).

Owns various fidget toys, mainly infini-cubes and fidget-spinners.

Doesn't have any form of social media, but finds memes that he knows each member of the crew likes and sends them to the group chat they all have.

Jokingly said “me-me” once (in a super serious tone) and earned the wrath of the crew (except Inkling who didn’t see the problem). 

Started an argument about the actual pronunciation and quickly escaped before it became too loud.

Always super serious when duty calls, but when he's not busy, he's occupying himself with casual tasks to keep himself from crying.

Random vocal stims

Sometimes copies humor/accents to talk easier with people (has done a horrible Siberian accent at least once and Natquik threw a snowball at him).

Has no idea how to relate to people/communicate unless he copies whoever he’s talking to.

Has a scar over his eye (which he is blind in) from an encounter with a walrus.

He suffers from intense nightmares and exploding head syndrome.

Hidden scars no one has ever seen (but Peso).

Literally can't do spices and starts sweating the moment Shellington even opens hot sauce.

Tried jalapeños once and he literally couldn’t stop sweating for the next hour.

So, there is a lot here... I’mma just:

Finally watching above and beyond!

I have only seen to the wild windstorm episode and I HAVE to specifically talk about THAT episode. First of all ...I knew it I knew it!!!! I knew my girl Dashi was Captain material! Is not only an speculation, no more!

Is amazing to see how much faith everyone has on her, especially the Captain; and don't make me star with the little fist bump those two had, it was such a sweet moment of pure trust and support, kind of like saying "yeah, you are ready for this".

The Captain was her father figure during that episode and nobody can say otherwise, it just-did you see how happy, proud and even relieved he was when she managed to complete the mission and, most importantly, get back safe to the octopod????? He even hugged Tunip of pure joy!!Glorious!!! And Dashi remembering every time what the Captain taught her to keep everything under control??? Glorious Glorious Glorious!!!!

Plus to all that professor Natquik was in the episode and that make it 10 times better, he will always make my smile <3

Tea Time Crush : Professor Natquik x Professor Inkling

(I'm literally the only person who knows this ship lol)

I know this is kinda a rare-pair, and as far as I've seen, they've never even met in the show 💀

But still, I think they're cute together. I see them both as Barnacles's father figures/weird uncle figures, and because of that, I think they'd get along well! I see them as friends who have tea together and talk about Barnacles in the various stages of his life!

Fun fact!

I've redone Natquik's design a hundred times and currently can't make up my mind between skin color and hair texture, so this is what I've got for right now.

What DOES stay is that I gave him ocular albinism -- a type of albinism that only affects the eyes. You'd have to zoom in to see it, but he's got some pretty detailed and pretty eyes :)! From this condition (and full body albinism), his eyes are extremely sensitive to light because there's no pigment and the light goes straight into the light-receptors in the back of the eyes, and they constantly shake/jitter because of this. I chose this because I thought it'd be a creative way to show off some of his Arctic fox biology -- Arctic foxes have bad eyesight, but exceptionally hearing.

Also, another detail I love is that his animal facial features are very prominent because in the lore of my little shifter universe ( w/ some help from @mildy-vibing ) if a shifter is alone for so long they can revert to a more feral-like state, acting more animalistic and shifting back to human form less and less frequently, and eventually just completely lose their humanity. Natquik was alone for YEARS, many, many years (probably around 40 in my au), so to me, he just acts and looks more like a skittish, hyper, cold-loving fox!

I NEED a "Kwazii and CJ"-style episode but with Barnacles and Natquik. put those nerds into a situation.

I want a Peso and Tracker episode, because it's clear to me that Tracker's arc is just the same one Peso went through in the main series; regarding his confidence and trust in himself, etc etc. and I'd love it very much if they made a callback to a Certain Episode. and I think it's funny when voice actors talk to themselves (they have the same uk va)

I think Barnacles, Kwazii, and Tweak all deserve to individually hang out with each other's parental figures at some point. (ie: Barnacles gets an episode with Calico Jack/Ranger Marsh, Tweak gets Natquik/Calico Jack, etc.)

I think Calico Jack should meet Pinto, Koshi, and Peri because of so many reasons actually:

Kwazii definitely gets his love of baby creatures from him

Pinto would be so excited to meet a real famous pirate

Koshi would be able to tell if he lies about anything. she'd take one look at him and figure out his whole deal right away.

Ranger Marsh should meet them too, because he is The Father Ever™ and his instincts would immediately engage upon seeing them, I know this.

I wanna see tracker watch over koshi and pinto at the same time and treat them like little polar scouts. bonus points if koshi and pinto get competitive over how many "badges" (probably just stickers) they can earn

min and natquik?? they have sorta similar personalities so I can see them being an interesting pair

do you have any Natquik and barnacles headcanons?

Hi yes abso-gosh-darn-lutely I do <33 /pos

Natquik was Barnacles' first friend. (Barnacles was a teacher's pet lol)

He (Nat) is without question his (Barn's) biggest role model, and also very much his father/grandfather figure—I'm leaning towards grandfather because of the countless CJ parallels.

Barnacles didn't know he was autistic growing up, because polar bears give me "oooo no we don't talk about our feelings or struggles, no siree" vibes as a whole, and since he was able to mask somewhat well, he was never diagnosed. NATQUIK HOWEVER, noticed. He knew, but he never said anything. Despite that, that's one of the reasons Nat chose to be Barn's mentor. (He knew what he needed, etc.) He probably would've told him eventually, but, y'know. Antarctica.

Guess whose autistic himself! Natquik.

Natquik has his own specific ways of expressing how he feels about certain things, and about other people; he's not a "use your words" type person. When Barnacles was young he figured out pretty quickly that Natquik has an impeccable memory, and shows he cares by memorizing every detail about you. *cough* .....He's also a hugger.

Natquik was very protective of Barnacles (and probably Bianca to an extent) when he was a kid, and since he pretty much hasn't seen him at all since then, he is STILL pretty protective over him. He's just less obvious about it.

Natquik probably has a really old picture of his polar scout troop that was taken before he left. It's in mint condition.

Y'know how Bianca has silly nicknames for Barnacles ("Feather Paws")? Natquik does too. I dunno what they are, though.

Personally I like to think that Tweak or Professor Natquik were the ones to tell Barnacles he had autism. Like, maybe either Natquik had experience in mental health and recognized the signs in Barnacles, or Tweak's mom taught her a lot about developmental disorders such as autism/ADHD and passed her knowledge onto Tweak( you also mentioned in a previous post that Dashi didn't know she had ADHD until Tweak told her, so I figured Tweak might low-key be an expert about mental disorders)

We don't know anything about Tweak's mom, if she even has one, so in a way every headcanon about her is canon until otherwise proven /hj

Personally I think Tweak just,, knows a Lot. About completely random stuff. Like this:

Plus Tweak has ADHD/autism (/headcanon) so I figured that she would recognize Dashi's traits, since she has them herself. In my head I imagine it was super casual too, like Tweak just assumed Dashi already knew, and made a comment one day like "yooo ADHD squad!" referring to herself, Dashi, and Kwazii, and Dashi was like "wait hold on-"

As for Barnacles you are so very right. I headcanon this too now. Because if it was Tweak, then again she'd be recognizing her traits in him—but it could definitely have been Natquik because I already have these two headcanons:

Natquik is like a grand/father figure to Barnacles. [he was canonically his mentor for a long time too.]

Polar Bears aren't,, like, super knowledgeable on this kinda stuff; it's taboo or something. Idk why I have this headcanon but it's a really strong vibe I get.

but Natquik!—is an Arctic Fox, so it's possible he could at least know a bit more about neurodivergency, etc. and considering he went basically off-grid for maybe 20 years without a radio, just so he could complete his research, and was perfectly happy doing that—he also might not be 100% neurotypical lol
