You were the one to initiate it, headpats weren’t much of a Mihawk thing for him to do even if you loved them. But you didn’t mind all that much. Wherever he’d finally take his hat off to rest you’d come happily walking over and pat him on the head before lying against his back while he read

He looked puzzled the first time you did it, to him it was a bit of a childish thing, something that Perona would do to him if she was feeling particularly good one day. Although he doesn’t care to stop you

He expects it whenever he can feel you walking beside him, sometimes having to hide his own smile when you’d accidentally end up patting his hat instead of his head but that never seemed to stop you. He wondered why you seemed to love them so much

You were cooking for him once, excited to give a new recipe you’d found a try and see if he liked it. It was hard to get ahold of good ingredients on Kuraigana but the recipe was perfect for the garden you both had been trying to make, all that hard work would pay off if it’s as good as you hope

Excitedly presenting him the new meal, Mihawk just finds your giddy expression so cute as you offer him it. You look so proud of himself and before he knows it he’s patting you on the head and telling you how sweet you are to him

Cue your face growing as warm as a flame as you try to shove the food into his hands so you could hide your face, hoping he’ll ignore your reaction. You know he notices with the way his eyebrows rise at your expression, but he just chuckles softly and brings you along to eat

He doesn’t forget it, continuously testing it with more and more headpats. It’s an easy way to show affection in his opinion, reaching over and ruffling your hair whenever he feels like it. It’s amusing to him how quick your expression changes when he does it, beaming like a ray of sunshine. On such a gloomy island it was a pleasant sight

He points it out fairly casually, it’s interesting to him but he thought that you were aware of your own fondness towards the gesture. But he’s proven wrong when your face first shows confusion that fades into a flustered expression that you try to hide from his sight, laughing it off as nothing

You’re a bit more aware of yourself afterwards, but Mihawk remains normal about it, still reaching out to give you headpats with much of a second thought. You’re a bit more of a blushing mess after you notice yourself falling apart from the display of affection but the way Mihawk seems to adore how happy you become, you don’t try to hide it

For a man who seemed so stone cold to everyone, he viewed you as the cutest thing ever

“go beel!” you scream, watching him absolutely dominate. he’s participating in a hotdog eating contest held at a human world carnival and you can tell the other contestants are in awe of him.

beel grins at you even as he shoves another hotdog in his mouth, and you can’t help but grin back.

“30 seconds left!” the announcer says and everyone picks up the pace. it’s clear by now that beel is going to win but the others aren’t giving up easily. the clock continues to click and the crowd goes wild when it hits the last five seconds.

“the winner here is this young man,” the announcer says, clapping beel on the back, and you cheer again. “what’s your name?”

they go through the whole winning thing while you wait patiently, and eventually, you can approach him, pushing through the other contestants who are all clamoring to get advice from him.

“good job!” you say, wrapping him in a hug. “do you get a prize or anything?”

“they had some stuff but i haven’t picked yet,” beel says.

“well, what are you waiting for,” you say, nudging him. “let's go get a prize!” you’re perhaps more excited by him winning than he is, but your enthusiasm is infectious and beel certainly doesn't mind.

beel leads you over to the prize wall, gesturing to the stuff he can take. “i kind of like all of it, so i’m not really sure what to choose.”

“hm,” you say, tapping your chin as you examine the different options. “there’s a lot of cool stuff here. i like the bears the best, but only because they sort of remind me of you.”

“me?” beel echoes, sounding surprised. “how?”

“you’re both cute, for one,” you say, making beel blush slightly. “and cuddly looking, as well as stern but sweet.”

“you really think that?”

nodding your head, you wrap an arm around beel’s waist. “sure do!”

“then it’s decided,” he says suddenly. “i want one of the bears.” he picks a mellow-looking brown one, lifting it with ease. it’s huge, coming up to his waist, stuffed to the brim with cotton. immediately, he turns to you, holding it out. “here.”

“for me?” you ask, hesitating. “oh, no, you won so it’s yours!”

beel shakes his head. “i want you to have it. maybe you’ll think of me when you cuddle it.”

heart fluttering, you take the teddy bear, squeezing it. it’s as soft as it looks. “if you’re sure…”

“i am.”

“thank you,” you say, awkwardly trying to figure out the best way to hold it. “i’ll definitely think of you when i see this. but,” you shove the bear into one arm so you can reach beel, pulling him closer to you, “i definitely like cuddling with you more.”

“i’m glad,” beel says quietly, a small, somewhat shy smile curling around his lips. “i like cuddling with you too.”
