A common insult in my language is 'xuz yagft,' which is 'rot mouth' when directly translated. You use it when someone's saying some bullshit or being annoying. Also used in reference to bad breath sometimes!

I've used 'forzq' before, it just simply translates to clown! Jester would be 'tocdob,' and circus would be 'ioxiay'.

The word for 'idiot' is 'ninty,' however 'yorktz tpuk,' which directly translates to 'silent mind,' is more commonly used.

'Ynazkek' means 'shut eye,' in reference to not seeing something. I heard this a lot growing up because my eyesight is terrible.

My species has a habit of using phrases as insults instead of singular words. if you couldn't tell. These aren't all insults, obviously, but they're some of the more common ones. I didn't include any that use flora or fauna from my home planet because those wouldn't make a lot of sense.

I was given word on Friday the 24th of March of a female possessor that had been found in a catatonic state outside of her home in █████████, Lochton at around 5 P.M.

I travelled alone to Lochton Regional Hospital on Saturday the 25th of March, arriving at 2 P.M. On the same day, I was given the task of checking the legitimacy of the hospital's claims. Initially I believed that the eye witness and hospital had greatly exaggerated the tragedy they'd come across, we have been getting a number of false call-ins as the number of Fatal Manifestation Incidents have continued to rise within the last 5 years.

My hope that this particular incident was over exaggerated was quickly silenced when I was introduced to ███████ ███████. I don't think I will ever get used to seeing the look of fear and confusion on a newly manifested possessor's face, and this girl was no exception. It was clear to me then that she hadn't been debriefed on anything that had transpired in the last 48 hours, that she was convinced that eventually she would be cleared and allowed to go home, she was not aware that her mother was in police custody and to be moved to mental health facility and that her younger brother and paternal grandmother were being moved to an undisclosed location, she had also not been told that none of her extended family had offered to collect her and act as her temporary guardian.

She was not aware that her mother had surrendered her to the state and that I was there to make a decision on next steps. ███████ stands at 4 feet, 10 inches tall (147.32cm) and weighs in at 60lbs (27.2kg), she has white skin with freckles that cover her cheeks, the bridge of her nose, her shoulders, elbows and knees. She has light green eyes and her hair is blonde, cropped short just below her chin.

Her skin shows signs of dehydration and lack of sleep, bags under the eyes, chapped lips and dry cuticles etc. She has scarring on her face, the scar tissue on the two most prominent scars is between three to four layers deep and doesn't show a clear laceration pattern but is more a concentration of lacerations in the same area. These two scars appear on the right side of her temple, travelling and expanding downwards to her jaw and the other is located on her left cheek and stops again on her jaw.

It's not clear from the injury itself what caused the scarring and ███████ explained that they started small when she was around ten or eleven-years-old, growing in size and depth overtime with no explanation, it was initially thought to be a rash and then some kind of skin-eating disease but neither theories were ever confirmed, ███████ said that the scars haven't changed in size since she was about fifteen-years-old but she does sometimes wake up to them bleeding. I do not appreciate the tone you have taken in this particular log entry Kaitlyn, although it isn't exactly a shock, perhaps a well deserved break is in order? 

Given the severity of this situation I will let the normally penalised behaviour go, I know our rules stipulate that we not let the children in our care become too attached as is the nature of things but I do believe that the comfort you gave, while disallowed, was beneficial to 16754's emotional stability.

Started pulling posts together into papers which (because I can’t be bothered to try to get published through formal avenues) I’ll probably throw on Neocities or something. The first one is on Hamp’s Law in Albanian and Tocharian, and so far concludes with rejecting it for Albanian - since the only solid case is -zet ‘twenty’ and one witness isn’t enough grounding for a rule, esp. since *h1ḱ-dwoh1 wouldn’t be too irregular (all you need is *ts-d- > *s-d-), meaning that the primary difficulty is morphological; cf. *swéḱs-h1ḱomt ‘sixty’ with the opposite order - but accepting it for Tocharian, but...

Hamp’s Law in Tocharian is based on three etymologies in Adams’s dictionary:

A tspäṅk-, B tsäṅk- ‘flay’ < *wi-tengʰ- (cf. OCS *tęgnǫti ‘pull’, Avestan θang- ‘pull’) A tpuk-, B tuk- ‘be hidden, hide oneself’ < *wi-dʰeuk- (with metathesis of *keudʰ- also seen in PGmc. *daugana- ‘conceal oneself’) A tspok ‘taste’, a verbal noun associated with the verb AB tsuk- ‘suck (out)’ (in which the *p was lost before -u-) < *wätsäuk- < *wi-deuk- (cf. Alb. nduk ‘pluck, pull out the hair, [dialectally] ‘suck’, Lat. dūcō ‘lead, pull’)

Hamp’s Law in Albanian is *wi-Ḱ- > z-, implying an intermediate step of *džw even from *w(i)-ts-. The reason an analogous process (affecting coronal obstruents in general) in Tocharian is necessary is the first of these three etymologies: Tocharian ts can be from *d, *ty, or *dhy, but not *t before a palatalizing vowel. So we’d expect tsäṅk, unless *wi-t- > *wd-.

But... I’m skeptical of *d > TB ts. (I can’t say anything about TA - there aren’t as many resources, and I haven’t read them.) Adams has some decent-looking etymologies with *d > t, and the cases of *d > ts are mostly verbs, where palatalization could apply. And although it’s conventionally held that *d in palatalizing environments > ś in TB, the only example is the word for ‘ten’, and people have recently started positing instead TA ś, TB ts. (There are apparently many good examples of this shift in TA.)

If *d > TB t, the only sources of TA ts : TB ts are *ty *dhy, so the first etymology would have to be rejected; and if *d > TB ts, the etymologies with *d > t would have to be rejected. Looking over my old post about this again, I think a decent middle path could be *dH > t...

Turning Point UK, fake Turning Point UK, and the real Turning Point UK.

As those of you who spend too much time on left twitter may be aware, the awful far-right organisation Turning Point USA launched their new UK spin-off last Saturday. It’s run by people such as Tom Harwood of Guido Fawkes and Darren Grimes, who you might remember from that time he was fined £20,000 by the Electoral Commission for criminal misconduct leading up to the 2016 EU Referendum.

But never fear. As early as Saturday morning fake Turning Point UK accounts started springing up, some plainly parodying the real organisation, others asserting their legitimacy by attacking other fake accounts. Some of the Turning Point UK accounts were actually real and endorsed by Turning Point, but whoever runs their official twitter seems to have lost track of which ones they were and have since denounced all regional accounts. Oops.

They’ve also removed the “Meet the Team” section from their website (not to be confused with the wonderful fake website which now also exists) to try and stop fake accounts using their photos as meme templates. It hasn’t worked. There are now over 150 false Turning Point regional chapter accounts being run and although they are all now quite obviously parodies, on Saturday and Sunday the line between real and fake was much more blurred. This atmosphere of confusion has basically ruined TPUK’s online launch and made them a laughing stock. Hopefully they’ll soon be going the same way as Activate, the failed Tory ripoff of Momentum.

This post doesn’t actually exist to tell you about fighting fascism with memes, though, although it is a worthy fight. I’m actually writing this because even before last weekend, there was already an organisation called Turning Point in the UK. Turning Point UK are a mental health and addiction charity who have been working here for over 50 years. The army of fake TPUK accounts have expressed regret over the negative attention brought upon this brilliant charity, first by Charlie Kirk’s organisation, and then by the wave of satire that has followed it, so they’ve set up a fundraiser as a way to apologise.

If you have some spare cash, please consider donating it to the real Turning Point UK who have had their good name taken and ravaged by this hateful group.
