Honestly, I think the fact Yugioh isn't popular at all with kids in the West compared to Pokémon needs to be studied.
Most people would (rightfully) blame how overcomplicated the game became compared to the early DM/GX days with all the new meta. But I think part of the blame relies on the way Konami handled the anime too. Both the broadcasting and the core.
I read on the Wiki that Yugioh DM, GX and 5Ds were dubbed by 4Kids and broadcasted it on Saturday morning blocks. When cable and with it the Saturday morning cartoon blocks faded away, 4Kids Entertainment (and their succesor, 4K Media) were very slow in adapting to the new reality. They moved to Nicktoons, then Hulu and then for free on Pluto TV.
Compare this to Pokémon franchise which was pretty much taken away from 4Kids and handled much better by TPC, staying solidly on the same network and then switched to the much more massive and GLOBAL Netflix.
Yugioh has the dubious "honor" of being one of the few remaining anime that still gets localized and dubbed following the heavy censored 4Kids handbooks and I think I finally figured the reason: Konami (who directly handles the dubbing and localization of Yugioh through Konami Cross Media NY, which is basically the remnant of 4Kids) is DESPERATE to build a younger gen Z/Alpha audience on the West.
The average Yugioh player in the West is in their mid 20s who was hooked with the original DM and GX (and maybe also 5Ds). Konami is fine with it but they really wish their game was as popular among kids as the Pokémon TCG is. There's always the fear of the mature audience simply leaving the game because they have bigger responsibilites with work, families, etc. Heck, that's the biggest reason why they didn't bother bringing the physical Rush Duels cards.
Which is why they focus heavily on targetting their shows towards kids. They could perfectly make more loyal-to-the-original teenage/mature focused dubs and broadcast them on Adult Swim or Crunchyroll. But because of their desperation in building a new audience, they instead make kiddified dubs so SEVENS is shown on Disney XD of all places.

I was tagged by the lovely @illegalcerebral! sorry it took me so long to play catchup, hon, my sense of time is whack in the summer :’D
Last song: Bark at the Moon - Ozzy Osbourne (I was outlining some stuff for the freak and the witch today lol)
Last movie: I’m an hour into this movie called Room 203 on Hulu rn, it’s about these two college-aged friends who move into what’s definitely a haunted apartment that definitely house a cult that might have sacrificed people to a?? bird god??? idk something in the wall had feathers that’s for sure. the longer I stare at one of the actress’s faces I can’t tell if she was in the mtv scream series or if I’m just projecting really hard. I’m seeing Nope tomorrow with a close friend IRL though - with a mask on the whole time, but still! I’m excited!!
Currently watching: the new season of what we do in the shadows!! on one hand, glad they’re weekly releases so I don’t rush through them all, on the other, the wait between is agony :’D I did also have the ‘80s season of american horror story and the new netflix resident evil series on in the background the last couple days, and unfortunately for both I have utterly no idea what’s going on lmao
Currently reading: I’m somewhere in The Pallbearers’ Club by Paul Tremblay, but left off after the big time jump to go read Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw. her prose was like really luxurious dark chocolate: really rich and beautiful sometimes, sometimes just a little heavy, especially at the beginning. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to pick back up with TPC or read What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, as it’s supposed to be a House of Usher retelling and that overlaps with some of my work next semester
Current obsession: Vampires is kind of a permanent special interest that goes dormant and comes back sometimes, and with all the talk of vampire!Eddie Munson it’s definitely back rn as I work on tf&tw. Otherwise I still have Mortuary brain, I’m just giving myself some time to read and get fresh again before spooky season gets here <3 I’ve got a lot of southern gothic on the brain as I’m focusing on it when work starts up again, so that’s definitely an influence on everything I’m taking in lately
thanks so much for tagging me, babe! it was nice to be thought of <3 I’m throwing this at a whole entire slew of people, but no pressure all around: @rosemaremembrance, @bigtiddythanos @maximoffwxnda @runawaywerewolf @jmathesonandsiblings @eldritchcircus @lorna-d-m @scuttle-buttle @pondering-and-wondering @somethingthatsaysbubbles @imalsonotsure @snaxk @darkestamralime @arctic--ash @norabrice1701 @creme-bruhlee @mypoisonedvine @raven-blood-13
and whoever else would like to share! <3 I always love reading these and seeing what people are into lately :D

We may be seeing Lee Joon’s return to acting soon!
On June 15, it was reported that Lee Joon would be appearing in the upcoming Netflix original series “The Sea of Silence” (literal title). A source from his agency Prain TPC stated, “It’s true that Lee Joon has received an offer to appear in the drama and he is currently looking over it.”
If Lee Joon accepts the role, it will be his first drama since 2017’s “Father Is Strange.” He is said to have been offered the role of Tae Seok, a man with a military background who is intelligent, soft-spoken, and caring. He gets along with everyone on the team but if they really think about it, they don’t really know anything about him.
“The Sea of Silence” will be a sci-fi horror thriller that is set in the future, where desertification has left the earth with food and water shortages. A special team is tasked with retrieving mysterious samples from an abandoned research base on the moon.
The upcoming series will be based on a short film of the same name by director Choi Hang Yong, who was highlighted at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival in 2014. Choi Hang Yong is set to direct the series, with Jung Woo Sung participating as a producer. Other actors who are in talks to join the series include Gong Yoo, Bae Doona, and Lee Joon Hyuk.
“The Sea of Silence” is set to begin filming this August.

I am not going to be posting any real spoilers, but the fact that they got Dan Green back into the studio for the English dub of Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution was quite nice [also Ted Lewis, but I expected that]. There’s not TOO many differences between this and Pokemon: The First Movie, for the most part the art along with some dialogue is updated and that’s it. Of note, they finally did change “Hurricane winds are a breeze for Pidgeotto here!” to “Hurricane winds are a breeze for Pidgeot here!” I suspect many people were waiting for that.  This also makes me wonder if they’re going to remake other older titles in CGI, or if this film was just a one-off. I suspect it’ll just be a one-off, but sometimes you never know with TPC. Also, it’s kind of unfortunate that this film remains Netflix-exclusive unless you live in Japan.  I’ve said this about Pokemon: The First Movie before, but I still find it slightly odd that Togepi wasn’t cloned along with everything else.

Happy 4 year Thrive Anniversary to me!! Hi everyone, I'm Tara O. and I'm going to be honest here… let's face it, life has its ups and downs. Luckily, for me, the last 4 Years have had more ups than downs. The one constant has been my 3 steps every single morning. No matter what is going on, I still wake up and take my 2 capsules on an empty stomach, hop in the shower, drink my Lifestyle Mix (I like to add Boost too), then apply the DFT (currently loving BURN) and out the door I go to attack the day. Everyone has stress these days. Everyone has those moments where they want to just throw in the towel and eat that entire pan of brownies, or sit on the couch all day, heck, all weekend and binge Netflix. That’s ok. We all have those days. BUT what I want everyone to know is… NO MATTER WHAT is going on, when you give your body premium nutrition with the Thrive Experience, you’re feeding your body what it’s lacking. I still feel these products working after 4 Years. I love the all-day clean energy it gives me. I sleep more soundly. My cravings for sugar and carbs are non-existent. I’ve lost weight and gained lean muscle thanks to FORM, BUILD and RECOVER. My workouts are fueled by Thrive thanks to the endurance it provides. At 41 years old, my body is the most healthy and fit it’s ever been. I have no plans of stopping ever because I’ve seen the results first hand. If you haven’t tried it yet you deserve to see how good you can feel. It’s your turn to THRIVE. . . . . #fitness #adventure #newyear #bwarrenfit #fit #bodygoals #wearablenutrition #inspiredaily #neverquite #nutrition #bodybranding #fitblogger #comditioning #thrivefitnation #leanmuscle #recovery #build #circulate #womenshealth #supplements #bossbabes #fitmoms #footballmoms #3simplesteps #premiumlifestyle #livingmybestlife #workout #gymlife #weighloss #transformationthursday (at PURE Estates at TPC) https://www.instagram.com/p/Br6JL2fhpfz/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=yx3hnjmhd8ey

Here’s how the PGA Tour plans to return without fans in June
Tumblr media
Golf now has a real plan to return — but it’s aspirational without expanded testing, puts an end to The Greenbrier for good, and might end up with Tiger Woods prepping for The Masters in Jackson, Mississippi.
Let’s start with the obvious positives. We’re all running thin on Netflix specials, on new books to read, whatever. After five-some weeks isolated and socially distanced with little to watch, everyone’s ready for sport to come back to our lives — in any format we can get it. Aggressively ahead of most other professional sports organizations on plotting a return, the PGA Tour announced Thursday morning a plan to resume play starting June 8.
The question isn’t if we want sports back. The person you know that loathes golf the most would probably settle for a sleepy Saturday afternoon 3M Open broadcast right now. It’s a matter if it’s right for the country and the world during this global pandemic.
Here’s what you need to know — and what to think about as we’re looking at this new schedule.
The Tour’s timeline to return is aggressive and will require extensive travel. Can that actually happen?
Dr. Anthony Fauci, who’s been a shining light of truth for many through this crisis, indicated just yesterday that there’s a path for sport to return this summer — playing without fans.
That’s not a problem for the Tour, which seems to be prepared to play events without galleries for several weeks. The return in Fort Worth at Colonial won’t feature anyone in the grandstands, nor will any event through the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the weekend of July 4 in Detroit. PGA of America president Seth Waugh has said the organization is prepared to play the August PGA Championship without fans at Harding Park in San Francisco. At the very least, the governing bodies are prepared for the reality that fans may not be present at golf tournaments for a long time.
But there’s one other item Fauci noted in his comments earlier in the week that would be a massive problem for the Tour’s proposed schedule — keeping the players quarantined, isolated, and restricted to a small geographic area.
“There’s a way of [returning].” Fauci told Snapchat on Tuesday when speaking about a possible return for Major League Baseball. “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put [the players] in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled. ... Have them tested every single week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family, and just let them play the season out.”
Golf has an advantage other sports don’t in this struggle to return to normalcy. The game is by nature spread out over hundreds of acres, outdoors. It’s not a contact sport, save for interaction with a caddie. That makes it relatively easy to still adhere to six-feet-apart social distancing guidelines during competition.
But the PGA Tour’s proposed schedule would struggle to meet the standard Fauci and others advise of sequestering athletes in a defined localized area. The MLB, NBA, EPL, and other leagues have all reportedly floated ideas to isolate players to complete seasons in places like Las Vegas or Arizona. The Tour is not doing that here. If regional and local containment becomes a priority and testing cannot increase to the capacity needed, is it safe to have professional golfers and a traveling cadre of broadcasters, support staff, and others? Despite the announced plans, the Tour seems to at least be keeping that in mind.
PGA Tour exec Andy Pazder expresses confidence that increased testing availability will facilitate a June re-start of competition but adds, "We will play only when we are certain that it is safe and responsible to do so."
— Will Gray (@WillGrayGC) April 16, 2020
RIP to the Greenbrier event, which is gone from the schedule for good
The casualty of all the schedule shuffling? The Greenbrier, which has been bumped around several times in recent years, is off the schedule for good.
There’s perhaps no full-field PGA Tour event in the modern era that’s had as weird and circuitous a history as the West Virginia event. Added to the schedule in 2010 to replace the longstanding, fan-favorite Buick Open, the tournament opened with a bang with Stuart Appleby’s stunning final-round 59 to beat Jeff Overton. That started a nice run, including appearances by Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, even during an often-shifting July date.
Then came the devastating floods that hit West Virginia in 2016, forcing the cancellation of the event, from which the tournament never really recovered. The later arc of the event brought us the somewhat bizarre, flag-loving A Military Tribute At The Greenbrier name. The final death knell to the relationship between the resort and the Tour may have been the choice to move the event from July to September as part of the 2019 schedule changes — which no matter the spin, is a less desirable date for a golf event opposite football.
The Tour’s contract with the Greenbrier ran through 2026, but both sides were ready to walk. So, goodbye to Old White and summer in West Virginia. You were nothing if not weird.
The off-season for pro golfers is suddenly, uh, right now
We often joke about the year-round, never-ending professional golf schedule. The true 2019-20 PGA Tour schedule provided all of a couple of weeks off between the season-ending Tour Championship and the aforementioned September Greenbrier. Still, there’s a usual ebb-and-flow to things for top players. Start ramping up the schedule slowly in January, February, March to prepare for the usual summer major months, then play sparingly in fall downtime.
That won’t be happening this year. The reshuffling has created a back-loaded 2020 schedule with odd rhythms and weird travel patterns leading into majors for the top players. Consider this example: If a player wants to make a couple of pre-Masters warm up starts, but doesn’t want to play the week prior in Houston, they’ll have to leave the country. The entire lead-up to the biggest tournament of the year features events in Korea, Japan, China, and Bermuda — during a global pandemic! Lots of players aren’t going to love that, probably Woods included.
The FedExCup Playoffs-U.S. Open combo in August-September will cause weirdness, too. What if Jordan Spieth, now 110th in the FedExCup standings, doesn’t qualify for the BMW Championship? Does he opt to play on the other side of the country the week before the U.S. Open? Come in with a month off ahead of a major? Or look somewhere else — like another Tour, for a start? It’s bizarre to even consider, but we’re going to see oddities in individual schedules like this all year.
Here’s the rest of the full, revised schedule — for now.
Revised 2019-20 PGA Tour Season schedule:
NO FANS June 8-14: Charles Schwab Challenge, Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas
NO FANS June 15-21: RBC Heritage, Harbour Town Golf Links, Hilton Head, South Carolina
NO FANS June 22-28: Travelers Championship, TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut
NO FANS July 2-July 5: Rocket Mortgage Classic, Detroit Golf Club, Detroit
July 6-12: John Deere Classic, TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Illinois
July 13-19: the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio
July 20-26: 3M Open, TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota
July 27-Aug. 2: World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, TPC Southwind, Memphis
July 27-Aug. 2: Barracuda Championship, Tahoe Mountain Club (Old Greenwood), Truckee, California
Aug. 3-9: PGA Championship, TPC Harding Park, San Francisco
Aug. 10-16: Wyndham Championship, Sedgefield Country Club, Greensboro, North Carolina
Aug. 17-23: The Northern Trust, TPC Boston, Norton, Massachusetts
Aug. 24-30: BMW Championship, Olympia Fields Country Club (North), Olympia Fields, Illinois
Aug. 31-Sept. 7: Tour Championship, East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta
And because the Gregorian Calendar stopped mattering on the PGA Tour schedule a few years ago, here’s where the new “season” begins in the fall. If you’re going by the definition of “season,” next year’s Tour schedule will have six majors in it, if all goes according to this plan.
2020-21 PGA Tour Season Schedule (fall portion):
Sept. 7-13: Safeway Open, Silverado Resort and Spa North, Napa, California
Sept. 14-20: U.S. Open, Winged Foot Golf Club, Mamaroneck, New York
Sept. 21-27: Ryder Cup, Whistling Straits, Kohler, Wisconsin
Sept. 21-27: Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, Corales Golf Club, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Sept. 28-Oct. 4: Sanderson Farms Championship, Country Club of Jackson, Jackson, Mississippi
Oct. 5-11: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas
Oct. 12-18: The CJ Cup, Nine Bridges, Jeju Island, Korea
Oct. 19-25: Zozo Championship, Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Oct. 26-Nov. 1: World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, Sheshan International Golf Club, Shanghai, China
Oct. 26-Nov. 1: Bermuda Championship, Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, Bermuda
Nov. 2-8: Houston Open, Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston
Nove. 9-15: Masters Tournament, Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia

Vacation Rental Marketing And Blind Dates
Tumblr media
There has been a fair bit written lately regarding social marketing and a lot of people think that this involves marketing on social media platforms - It doesn't.
These two concepts, social marketing and marketing on social media could not be further apart yet most people with something to sell do the latter thinking that they are on the cutting edge of social marketing.
To explain what I mean I'm going to take you on a blind date.
Tumblr media
I'm on a blind date...
Let's imagine that I'm in a restaurant and I'm sat opposite Susan A.
I've not met Susan before, obviously, but we introduce ourselves and after a bit of chit chat Susan tells me that she has a couple of vacation rental properties outside Orlando. She asks me if I've ever been to Florida and I tell her that I haven't been but I've always fancied going there.
Before I get a chance to say anything else she whips out her smartphone and proceeds to show me pictures of her houses. She starts showing me pool photos, images of bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, and photographs of games rooms, indoor cinemas and double garages.
We've hardly spoken at this stage.
If this wasn't bad enough, once we finish our starters she begins to give me detailed descriptions of the amenities at these properties, the size of the various beds and TV's and she spends time droning on about air con, free WiFi and Netflix. This goes on, and on, throughout the main course.
As I'm dipping into a rather nice ice cream dessert she keeps telling me that she can offer me a special discount for one particular house at the end of next month due to a late cancellation.
Like that's why I'm here.
I'm getting pretty bored with Susan and what she has to say.
She's not being very social.
She's marketing at a social event. That's a faux pas if ever there was one. It's just plain antisocial.
She has alienated me, I've switched off, I'm not really listening.

Post date thoughts...
I'm less likely to visit Florida after an evening with Susan A.
Not only that, Susan has wasted her time. She didn't make any effort to get to know me.
The thing is, Susan was doing what nearly all vacation rental home owners, agents and listers do on social media - They market their properties. That's their social media strategy.
It's actually a social media travesty.
So what could Susan do?
What would be better for both Susan and I?
Once again, let's imagine that I'm at the same restaurant and I'm sat opposite Susan B.
As you know, I've not met Susan before but we introduce ourselves and it turns out that Susan has a couple of vacation rental properties outside Orlando (surprise surprise). She asks me if I've ever been to Florida and I tell her that I haven't. So far I'm getting a little de deja vu.
Susan's eyes light up when I tell her I've always fancied going there and she starts to enthuse about Florida and what it has to offer.
She asks me if I play golf and, when I tell her I do, she tells me that she loves golf and one of the reasons that she moved to Florida is that there are over 1,250 golf courses in the state. I'm amazed by that (I must share that fact with my golfing buddies). She also tells me that she has played at the famous TPC Sawgrass, which is apparently a public course (I didn't know that). I'm impressed. She adds that there are 29 courses in Orlando alone
We chat.
We are both having trout for our main course. Susan tells me she caught a big sea trout on an inshore sports fishing trip near Titusville, about 45 minutes east of Orlando. She says this is quite close to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. I learn that there are six rocket launches scheduled for 2019. Imagine seeing a rocket launch. That must be on a lot of peoples bucket list. I wouldn't mind seeing that myself.
Over dessert, I ask her if she's been to Disneyworld and she says she has been a few times as it's only 10 miles from one of her houses. She tells me about some of the rides, Epcot and Disney's animal kingdom. It all sounds fantastic.
She also mentions Seaworld and bubbles over when she tells me a story about the time she and her family went on a "Penguin up close tour" and they got to touch a Penguin. She shows me some photos on her phone. I tell her that my daughters would love that.

Post date thoughts...
At the end of the evening, I feel that I want to visit Florida more than ever. I have learnt more about some of the things to see and do and who knows I may even end up staying at one of Susan’s houses.
Susan spent the evening talking to me, not at me.
This in effect is social marketing.
It's not sales orientated. It's sharing what you know about your region. It's sharing your experiences and preferences. It’s dispensing information.
It's social.
The takeaway
Tumblr media
If you think about it, all internet business is just like a blind date. We don't know the people that we are trying to sell to, yet that's all most people try and do - cold call, in your face, hard selling - me, me, me marketing - just like Susan A tried with me on our date.
It's not anyone's fault. Technology, platforms and marketing techniques evolve and other new things are born. Before you realise, media has matured. Things move forward and we find ourselves in a position to do things differently.
As far as social marketing is concerned it's actually much more natural than old-style marketing. You just share what you know with people that you don't know. That's what humans have been doing since the beginning of time.
As you share things people get to know and trust you.
That's all Susan B was doing. She was sharing her passion, her experience and her knowledge. That passion, experience and knowledge just happened to be lightly seasoned with the fact that she has a couple of vacation rental properties.
This may only have been the first date but all relationships (business and personal) start out with a first date. Some stumble at the first hurdle, some blossom into lasting relationships.
Both you and I know that I'm not going to see Susan A again. But we both know that I would like to have another date with Susan B.
Need help getting from A to B?
Social media is not a place for business so those of you that are solely advertising your properties on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and the like are just wasting your time and you may as well pack up your tent.
You are using the wrong methods in the wrong media.
That's just like placing newspaper ads on the radio or radio ads on TV. It ain't gonna work.
You need to be more social. Social media. Social marketing.
The clue is in the words and it's right in front of you.
If you have enjoyed this brief date with me and would like to know more about cutting-edge social marketing techniques developed expressly for your vacation rental business then head over to Vacation Soup and have a look around.
If you prefer, email me at [email protected]
I look forward to meeting you.
Regards Alan Egan
