THERE IS POTENTIAL. for. in the Bug-Gold Swap AU.

so. Hexalace does become Bug's caretaker eventually in the Swap AU as well because Swap!Redd is. Still Redd. /neg

and, it takes a LOT longer, like, think, maybe 3 times the length of the time it took canonically - BUT Swap!Hexalace DOES convince Swap!Bug to apologize for being an ass. again, it takes WAY longer than OG Bug

BUT. during S!Bug's apology. here's where the fun comes in.

instead of (mostly-)forgiveness, like in OG BugVerse: Swap!Gold snaps at her ass. VERY deserved i will add. he does NOT give a shit about her. and she regrets causing that now.

there is no Siblings Premium Free Trial at any point in the Swap AU. only bitterness.

She was created to be the Yellow Hero– but they came out "defective", gray in color and without any abilities (aside from that levitation ability the other Heroes have- except, aers was very, very weak. Before her connection was restored, Bug couldn't lift anything heavier than a ballpoint pen. But, even if it was lighter than that, it did take a lot of energy out of them if it went on for too long.).

Aer caretaker, Redd, was a total bitch about it, to put it lightly.

So Bug had to put up that for the longest while– before she came across the other caretakers, and, after a while of following them around out of spite and bickering with the other Heroes (she hated them. All of them. She couldn't stand them. Every. Single. One.), she bonded and became close friends with Tsavorite.

They ended up going into a TIO form alongside the other Heroes (and Cyanide), because aer connection to the Trees of Life was so suddenly restored.

After the Corruption ended, everyone deemed it necessary to keep Bug as far away from Redd as possible, and so, Bug bounced around staying with the other caretakers and Heroes for a long while... (Which, it should probably be mentioned that they all pretty quickly learned that it was a must to keep Gold and Bug separated at all times.)

Over time, Bug became bonded with an orange hexagon monster- Hexalace, who became her caretaker after the title was stripped from Redd (about damn time).

And things are alright now. Or, so ae hopes.

Technically both reference sheets are WIPs, but I physically can't finish them because I don't have group members' designs done just yet :'< Also because I don't have all of the (canon) relations figured out yet

Meet the two Heroes, both intended to be yellow, but only one succeeded: Bug, the now-Gray Hero, and Gold, the Equilibrium Yellow Hero. They're not the best of friends... In fact? They don't get along too well. Like, at all.

...Then there's also Rust. Gold doesn't usually have the ability to 'let him out'... But, for some reason, now? Uh. Y'know. Yeah- he doesn't like letting him out, though. It's too much on him...

silly hypothetical: one day, for whatever reason, tpc decides that all trainers have to be assigned a type specialty, no matter how unfitting it is. there is no such thing as multitype. this retroactively applies to every single trainer in the pokémon games.

all this just to ask - which singular type would you assign to ingo?

*note: throughout these small justifications, i refer to sneasler together with ingo's team, given that unlike the others in the 'questionably connected' category, its connection to ingo is very well-established. while i do admit that sneasler wouldn't be undeserving of her own exclusive category (s-rank, s for sneasler) i'd prefer to keep this already long section from getting even longer.

pokémon who aren't this type, but could be justified as an off-type for flavour reasons: garbodor (razor mouth), haxorus (axe); chandelure (chandeliers were made of metal) and alakazam (spoons) if you really want to push it)

ingo's most common type by far. which makes sense - trains have a strong association with steel, to the point that the term for railways translates literally to "metal roads" in a few other languages.

excadrill and klinklang can be considered his signature pokémon; the latter is the only pokémon explicitly shown under his ownership in the manga, while the former is paired with his base form in pokémon masters. in fact, the battle subway's hub being named gear station could also reference klinklang's evolutionary line. consider that klink is a pair of twin gears that represent gemini in the canon unova horoscope, and the subway bosses, well.

what this type lacks in raw numbers, it makes up for in iconicity. gliscor is ingo's ace pokémon in legends: arceus, while excadrill, as mentioned above, is paired with him at base in PMEX (which means ingo's base unit is a ground-type pair in this game). trains are land transport, after all, and subways are explicitly railways in the ground.

chandelure alone manages to make ghost worth considering, as ingo's most notable pokémon; featuring heavily in the anime, being the only pokémon from his former team to be mentioned in L:A and finally being paired with him for his sygna outfit in PMEX (as a ghost-type pair).

that, and he's goth with a frightening team. he'll fit right in.

at any rate, bug does show up quite often between the subway bosses' teams, especially when counting PMEX-exclusives. honestly deserved, considering their home region is known for being the region where bug-types actually had a chance to shine.

Some notes:

Bug and Skye aren’t actually matured yet in the present of the story, this is just so I have a ref of everyone lol

Cyan and Skye have matching ribbons as a peace offering from Skye, after Cyan gets some sense talked into him she tries to properly bond with him and she gives him a lil ribbon to say “I don’t wanna fight”

Tsav is chunkier than the others, it’s just hard to see here because of his cloak

Gold has monster/snake traits because his caretaker is Pyrare and monster caretakers are kinda weird in regards to the effects they have on their heroes

Skye isn’t able to be fully purified due to being born corrupted, she’s kinda only half-pure because of ✨ parental love ✨

Skye doesn’t have hair when matured because she’s a robot and hair wouldn’t make sense lol (idk that’s always bothered me a lil)

Shattered Body, but Not Sprit/SBNS: Tsavorite is killed by Cubic, and becomes a ghost. he cant remember how he died though. he comes across Barracuda and they find the group again- Orange denies Ghost Tsav's Existence™ until the very end. Barracuda is liked in this one /silly

The Snake Hero/TSH: Barracuda is revived, and goes off to convince Gold to Join The Corrupts™ using "we r brothers c'mon..dont u wanna know more abt ur brother 🥺🥺🥺" and Gold is convinced to become a traitor. he becomes besties with Ajaceare btw :3. Barracuda is NOT liked in this one /silly
