the scent wafts in, her name making him beg on his knees chap 2.1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: dabi / todoroki touya x fem!oc / reader (MODERN AU) [mentions of todoroki family]
chapter summary: In which Touya finally reveals how his spiral to darkness began (how he became an alcohol- and cigarette-dependent)
themes: nsfw, domestic abuse, violence, alcoholism, cigarette smoking, toxic relationships, mental health, co-dependency and other related themes (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)
notes: for this one, pls keep in mind that touya didn't have much scars on his face; mostly are on his body to accomodate the plot; charas might be ooc since this is modern au
Shouto visited him, of all people. It nerved the shit out of Touya. Of all people. Of. All. Damn. PEOPLE.
He half-expected their mom or Fuyumi or Natsuo, at least (or even their shitty father since he had become clingy as of late and constantly asked about his welfare at the treatment center, per Natsuo's letter.) After all, they kept begging him to let them visit him a few months ago, and just when he said they could go, he didn't know Shouto would be the first family member he would see in a while.
"My bad. Maybe I should've imitated Natsu-nii's hair or dressed up like Fuyumi-nee to make you feel better," Shouto remarked, aware that Touya would've wanted to see them first before him.
Touya could only cringe, imagining Shouto acting like their other two siblings. It's not the best thing to see in real life. "Please don't," he muttered awkwardly.
Shouto nodded, grabbing something from his pocket and sliding it towards Touya on the table. "I heard going cold turkey is difficult, so I thought this would do."
Touya incredulously stared at the object, his frown curving more and more at his brother's foul mouth and silly antics. He couldn't believe this was the boy he raised for quite a while back then.
Should've toned down my sarcasm back when he was young.
"It's fake cigarette. You can even eat it," Shouto revealed.
"I know that. I can clearly see what this is, Shouto," Touya retorted. Seriously, is he making fun of him right now?
"Just making sure, in case you're running out of options to satisfy your cigarette addiction." Afterwards, Shouto brought out a bag of beer-shaped candies and gave it to him. "And I heard you also drank a lot so..."
Touya groaned in exasperation. What the fuck is he pulling? What's with this shit?! "Do you really think you can solve my alcohol and cigarette issues just by giving me candy?"
Shouto shrugged. He didn't know what to do, to be honest. He was just suddenly told by Fuyumi and Natsuo that they had urgent matters to attend to so he had to be the one to visit their oldest sibling. He just didn't anticipate he would act this way.
"Well... I could... indirectly... as a source of your cravings... you can munch on them—"
"ARGH! I've had enough!" Touya stood and slammed his fists on the table, embarrassed with Shouto's point of view and solution for his issues. God, why did he have to have a brother like this? Is he really the masterpiece their father has been prancing around like a trophy?
Shouto awkwardly looked away, running out of options to appease Touya. It wasn't like he hadn't seen him prior to this. He met Touya back when he was doing carpentry and when they talked for the first time, the oldest couldn't be bothered to accommodate him, like he really didn't want to talk to him at all. He was even so rude that he smoked in front of him and didn't care if he was the secondhand receiver of his cancerous stick. That's why, talking to him again like this, he had little hope that Touya would be a bit nicer in a way.
Like when he would take him to Sekoto Peak in secret.
"Hey," Touya called his attention. "Have you taken Fuyumi-chan and Natsu-kun to Sekoto Peak yet?"
Shouto was stunned, speechless at his question but nonetheless happy. Happy that he remembered. Happy that Touya still held his end of the promise, that the four of them would go there. For so long, he went there alone, not taking his two siblings on purpose because Touya wasn't there. And now that he was here...
"I haven't."
Touya was only quiet, sighing as he scratched the back of his head. He wasn't used to this. Then again, he was his oldest brother.
"I'll see what I can do," he said while looking away from him in embarrassment. "Well, after this treatment, that is."
"Is that... your graduation gift for me?" Shouto meekly asked.
Graduation? Touya narrowed his eyes in confusion until it hit him. Of course, damn brat's already nearing graduation. He's 18, for fuck's sake.
"Yeah, sure, whatever you call it."
On that day, Shouto had been his happiest.
------
"When did you start drinking?"
"15."
The therapist took note of the age. Too young. Too young to drink. Too young to get drunk. Too young to be exposed to things he shouldn't be exposed to. Too young to grow up. Too young to mature.
"How did it happen?"
Touya recalled seeing a few senpais from the other building, having fun in one of the secluded rooms, merrily laughing like they had heard or seen the funniest thing ever. The 15-year-old Todoroki Touya was curious, wondering what it was until one of them motioned for him to enter their threshold, unbeknownst to him that this would mark his welcome to hell. They urged him to have a happy drink because he was always so serious, "lighten up," they would say.
Touya recalled how bitter it tasted, scrunching up his face in disgust, questioning on how it could be a 'happy drink' when it wasn't delicious enough. But then, they encouraged him further, until the bitter taste was nothing on his tongue and the name finally made sense. His inhibitions had been worn down, and all he could do was laugh and laugh and be numb. No one at home knew that he drank that day as he went straight to the toilet and washed up all traces of alcohol. It never happened. He never drank. He just went to school like usual. That was all.
"How about smoking?"
"I learned it on my own during high school."
"Why?"
Touya shrugged. Why did he? He honestly didn't know. One day, he just felt that urge creeping onto him, the urge to do something worse. It's not like he was slacking off. He was still getting those damn high grades. He never went absent from school unless there were important family matters to attend to. He managed to become the good son, but not the favorite. He was still the top student in their grade. He thought it would never get worse than this.
Like any first-timers, Touya had a rough start with smoking. He was coughing the entire time, still not giving up on his first try as he tried to inhale and exhale smoke the right way. It took him a few tries before he got hit by the nicotine, finally mastering the proper technique and being able to understand why a lot of people smoke when they get stressed. Since then, he would sneak out and smoke somewhere no one would know, preferably the school rooftop. Sometimes, he would be careless and take a hit in their family garden, ensuring to take his own trash out so no one would know.
Ah, but he became a bit careless once. He left his empty pack of cigarettes in one of his pants and one of the maids immediately reported it to Enji. So when he went home that day, the house was suddenly so quiet, like eerily quiet as his siblings sat on the living room sofa with Enji on the armchair holding the empty cigarette box. The next thing, he was getting slapped with Fuyumi trying to go between them, but to no avail. Touya received the worst beating of his life, and this scarred him the most to this day, locking himself in his bedroom and refusing to speak with anyone even when there was food left at his doorstep. Well, he did allow Fuyumi to enter as she was insisting on healing his wounds.
"Fuyumi-chan is so nice," Touya commented. "She's so nice, she should've been the favorite child."
"Why do you say so?" his therapist countered.
"Fuyumi-chan had always made sure to keep the family in check. Mother wasn't there anymore. She was sent to a mental ward after burning Shouto's face with boiling water," Touya answered. "Fuyumi-chan had always known that all things went south, but she would act like the responsible older sibling, making sure there would be no conflicts, no arguments, and even if there were, she would be quick to cover everything up."
"Touya-nii," she called his name, placing everything back in the first aid kit.
"What?" he spat bitterly, not wanting to hear any rubbish lecture, especially from her and her two goody-good pretentious shoes.
"Please don't destroy yourself further," she begged, her voice a mere whisper. "I'm worried about you. We're all worried about you. I don't want to lose you or anyone else." And now, Fuyumi was crying. Great. Just fucking great. She was crying because of him, snot and tears mixing up as she kept them together. "Please, Touya-nii," she hissed. "I beg of you. Just please. Please. Please. For us."
"What would you know?" Touya shot at her, dismissing her sobs even though he knew she was just worried. "You and Mother had it all easy. All the women in this house just stood in silence. You can't even fight. Grandma even sold Mother to Father for their marriage, right?"
"T-Touya-nii—"
"That's why we're all here, isn't it?" Fuyumi tried to reach for his hand but he just retracted it from her, glaring at her so hard with sarcasm. So much for being the best sister he could have. He shouldn't mock her efforts or belittle the things she did. "We're all here to be his successor until we weren't. We're failed creations, Fuyumi-chan. Get that shit in your brain, okay?"
He hasn't still apologized to Fuyumi for that after these years.
------
In the next session, Touya tells his therapist about the day he ran away, and the day he decided to abandon the Todoroki family. This was the start of him entering hell, according to him as his therapist readied his notebook to write the important details. After the cigarette incident, Enji would be watchful of his movements, and it was so evident that Touya could feel a lot of his teachers monitoring him, even disguising it as 'asking where he was going' even though he knew they would tell on him to his father. He would feel himself raging internally at this point, the darkness in him caged yet ready to burst any minute.
Great! I can't drink alcohol. I can't smoke a damn cig. Just. Fucking. GREAT!
He couldn't concentrate on his studies. He couldn't sleep. He couldn't function. Fuck, he was a slave to his own vices. He could feel himself dying without them already. And because of that, he would readily snap at people approaching him, may it be out of sheer good will or not. Touya did not give a fuck anymore. He was itching to destroy something—anything—no, no—anyone, someone—IT. WAS. THE. LAST. STRAW.
One of the school's delinquents decided to kick his desk and make fun of him, probably to get some cold hard cash because he thinks he's so powerful, bullying other kids who got no power over him. Touya was only nonchalant, minding his own business as he stared at the view from the window.
"Oi, Todoroki! Did you go deaf or something? I said—"
"Fuck off," Touya replied, still not looking their way.
The delinquent clicked his tongue in annoyance, pulling Touya up by his collar as he gritted his teeth. "You shit. You think you're so great just because you're dirty rich and all that crap?"
Touya only smirked. "So what? Can't handle my life being greater than yours?"
The delinquent only stared hard, narrowing his eyes angrily before letting go of Touya and saying, "At least I don't have a mother who's some kind of lunatic. Who knows? Maybe your sister's a psycho as well?"
And the next thing, there was a brawl in the hallway; more like a one-sided brawl as Touya pinned the delinquent down on the ground and punched him like there was no tomorrow, cold and bloody gaze on him that silently screamed murder. His pleas for help and stop were falling on Touya's deaf ears, uncaring if people were to brand him a monster for what he did. The fucker deserved it for being so careless with his words. He should've just shut his trap. He should've just not mentioned his mom or Fuyumi. The nerve of him. Imbecile.
The punching only ceased when the teachers came and the head principal decided to suspend Touya for 2 weeks before his graduation, much to everyone's chagrin as he almost killed his classmate. Of course, Enji was immediately called about the situation, and the moment they set foot inside the house, he took no time punching Touya in the face.
"Is that what you are now, huh?" Enji's hardened gaze was on him, emotionless and unwavering. "A fucking delinquent? Are you so hopeless you want to beat the shit out of anyone?"
Touya wiped off the blood from his mouth as he heard footsteps from his siblings down the hall. He couldn't look at them, especially at Fuyumi. Nonetheless, he also held his own at his father, not giving a damn if he was angry at what he did.
"Have you no shame for what you did, Touya? You're an embarrassment to this family."
Now that was Touya's turn to scoff, spitting out in front of him rudely. "How about you? Aren't you ashamed of yourself? Beating me up? Being the reason Mom was sent to the hospital? Casting us aside because of Shouto?"
Enji held a breath, his glare getting fiercer the more Touya meets it with his sarcasm. He raised his hand to slap him in the face, only for Touya to react with: "Go on. Hit me. Hit me like you always did. That's the only thing you were good at anyway."
That's when Enji stopped his ministrations, resisting the urge to choke those words out of his son and have him swallow them all back. They stared at each other for a long time before Touya trudged down to his bedroom and packed up a few of his important belongings. He has no idea where he'll go after this or what he's gonna do. He doesn't know, and he doesn't care. He needed to leave this goddamn place. His siblings would understand him. This wasn't easy for him, after all.
The three of them trailed behind him as Touya put on his shoes, their pleas for him to stay were hurting him more and more. He could never stay, not when Enji's around, not when this house was reminding him every time that he had no reason to be born in this world. He looked back at the three of them briefly before exiting the main house and sliding the door shut.
And afterwards, he buried the name Todoroki Touya, dyed his hair black, and went by the name Dabi.

okay so
y'all seemed unusually chill about my last Endeavor rant, and that has lulled me into a false sense of security. General disclaimer that everyone is allowed to engage with media however they want and no one is ever obligated to like/appreciate/forgive/whatever any character and this is all fictional barbie doll playtime so who cares -
BUT
Whenever I see a lot of anti-Endeavor rants, it just screams to me that the person posting has maybe not fully internalized the idea that parents (and adult figureheads in general) are human beings who are quite fallible and capable of making terrible mistakes just like everyone else.
Most people who abuse and neglect children do not realize that they're abusing and neglecting them. I know this is a tough pill to swallow.
Heck, most people who abuse other people in general do not realize they're causing harm. We as human beings generally like to see ourselves as the main character - as a person who's making the correct choices, who knows best, who's out for the greater good.
When parents and guardians abuse and neglect their children, they're generally not thinking "I want to hurt a child," they're thinking that they need to teach the child discipline, or that the child is ungrateful, or that they're somehow doing what's right for the child and the family even if it's hurtful at the time. Or, perhaps at the same time, they're not examining their actions at all, due to lack of understanding, mental health issues, addiction, etc. Makes me think of that post that circulated about how "child abuse is inherently irrational" because YEAH. IT IS IRRATIONAL.
This all very much tracks for Endeavor, who married Rei and started having children when he was quite young, and by all accounts did not have anyone in his life to offer a good example of what a healthy, loving family looks like. We also see his descent into emotional disturbance pretty starkly when you look at the memories of Touya and Fuyumi when they're very young versus the at height of his abuse. We also don't see any other heroes of Endeavor's age who are parents in canon.
Endeavor's thoughts were always "I need to protect Touya from hurting himself, and the best way to do that is by distancing myself so he stops wanting to be a hero" and "I need to train Shouto to be as strong as possible so that he can surpass both me and All Might and become a great hero." Both of these are selfish and short-sighted to some extent, but they're not sociopathic.
He was never thinking, "I want to hurt my children and my wife." No one thinks that way. That's some family annihilator thinking, and there's no indication that Endeavor thinks this way. Very, very few people are that cartoonishly villainous in real life, and Horikoshi has made a point of showing that Endeavor is multifaceted. He only recognized his own shortcomings with his family when he was older and saw the consequences. Would it have been better if he realized these things earlier (and maybe got some damn therapy)? Yeah, of course! That would have been way better!!
Anyway, I think the point that I'm trying to make is that people seem to have this assumption that Endeavor KNEW what he was doing was wrong and did it anyway, when that's simply not what's shown in the canon and also is not realistic in terms of actual bad parenting.
Not to get too deep on main or whatever, but as a survivor (ugh) of childhood abuse, and someone who's dealt with abusive partners as an adult, letting go of the idea that abusers are fully aware of what they're doing and are purposeful with the harm that they do was a HUGE hurdle for me to overcome, but it made my life way better to accept that people are just selfish idiots who have no idea what they're doing in most cases. This doesn't mean that abusers are innocent in any way, or that they can't be held accountable for their actions, or that you have to forgive blah blah blah, but I really genuinely encourage people to reexamine the idea that abuse is always purposeful because it very much is not.
Thanks for coming to my rant, no tags because I don't want to get harassed by teenagers. This is just me spitting out my internal thoughts on the internet and I have no desire to engage in arguments about it.

Honestly I blame the manga for not really paying much attention to the very obvious issues he has for Natsuo being sidelined so easily. Like the boy clearly has some mental health problems that i know people would eat up in any other situation, and I think his reaction to Endeavor and Touya's death leaves a lot of open ends for how he grows up after that in fics. Also, the trope of looking like someone you despise?? Full of angst potential
i have suchhhhh an issue with how horikoshi had natsuo react to the dabi reveal. like natsuo rejects endeavour for a lot of reasons but the one he's most vocal about is bc of what endeavour did to touya and the only and first time in his entire life that he's willing to ally with endeavor is... when touya reveals himself to actually be alive. what. he would not fucking say that

It all feels like a retcon starting from the first look at toga’s backstory because it doesn’t sync up when you put all her actions together. I thought maybe hori was trying to say toga’s quirk became unfortunately linked to arousal after years of suppressing it and it being triggered by her feeling of admiration for her crushes. But yeah that would have been too mature to tackle for my hero though I could maybe see it with chainsaw man. So I don’t know get what’s going on right now except toga’s mentally ill because of her parents and society and he keeps trying to make last minute parallels between toga and touya.
I think the issue is that Hori never spent as much time or effort on Toga as he did with Shigaraki and Touya. Even now her backstory is rather limited in comparison. We got full chapters worth to explore what happened to Touya and Tenko but Toga's is a couple pages or panels here or there with everything being rather vague.
Hori likes using her for sexy pictures and drawing suggestive stuff with Ochako, but she ultimately isn't given as much thought as her male counter parts. Which given the already bad implications of her character has only made her even worse.
Take this latest chapter. We get this page for Quirk counseling.
Tumblr media
It's just 2 panels that are honestly really vague. It also comes after her drinking blood from a bird her parents think she killed. Toga says it fell on the ground but that doesn't mean she didn't kill it (baby birds are often on the ground until they fully can fly, or it could have been injured), so that's not helpful either. On top of that it makes sense her parents would find the behavior bad regardless because it either means she killed an animal or picked up an already dead one and proceeded to eat it. Neither of those are great and both are harmful to her.
We just don't really get a good look at how the Quirk counseling worked. They say that they'll make her 'normal' but that doesn't mean they abused her. They could have just explained why it was wrong for her drink blood, like the health issues it could cause. On top of that Hori drops the 'it happens all the time in our current society' line, but we have never seen anyone else like Toga. Not even Stain was ever hinted at being like Toga despite their similar blood based powers.
This is like if we reduced the Touya chapters to a black screen with Enji commenting that he can't train him anymore and we didn't get to see how much Touya struggled with what he perceived as rejection, or how Enji completely ignored him afterwards. Or if we cut Shigaraki's father's abuse to just him yelling at him in black panels before he accidentally killed his family.
Tumblr media
Then we get this. This honestly makes Toga look worse, not better in my opinion. We see that she drank blood from someone before she snapped at school. She says they got hurt so she kissed it better, but if you look at her, she is covered in quite a bit of blood. Maybe her friend did get hurt but they were either really badly hurt and bleeding a lot and Toga did not help them and instead started licking them, or she might have even made their injuries worse to get the blood she wants.
If Hori cared more about her character he would have been shown what happened here. Or in the very least put less blood if any on Toga, which would show she didn't hurt this person or ignore helping them with a serious injury because she can't think of anything but blood.
As it is we have no idea if her friend got really badly injured and Toga ignored helping to just feast on them, or if her friend told her to stop, or if she made the person's injures worse. Yes, her parents are wrong for saying Toga's not human, but if she's attacking injured friends that's a huge problem.
One of the biggest issues with Toga is that she is both portrayed as so obsessed and desperate for blood she can't comprehend why anyone might not like her shoving a straw in their neck, but at the same time she was and is at times able to be perfectly fine. She can't understand why Ochako or Izuku, in desperate situations caused in part by her might not be happy with her, but can also turn around and comfort Twice and understand that he feels responsible for the death of a team mate.
It's impossible for me to feel bad for her because when I read her chapters I just see a drawing of an offensive stereotype that does what ever the author wants them to do. Toga just doesn't feel like a person at all. She's nothing but the sexy shell of a teenage girl that Hori doesn't seem all that invested in past her being cute and giving him an excuse to have two girls being all touchy and hot.
#ask#thanks for the ask!#bnha spoilers#bnha#mha#anti himiko toga#anti villain#bnha critical#shes just impossible to take seriously#cuz idk how she can be the most emotionally mature of the LoV#but somehow not get consent#like girl have you ever tried asking to drink someones blood before using them as a juice box?#did it really not occur to you that maybe people don't like being stabbed#i mean she never tries to attack any of her friends despite saying she loves them now#the only time she pulled a knife on Shigaraki was to threaten him#which means she does get that knives are threatening#yet she still throws a shit fit when Ochacko and Izuku are not happy with almost getting stabbed#like im sorry but that makes no sense even if she is really mentally ill#and if she was that mentally ill she never would have been able to pass as 'normal' until she was 14 or 15#i also don't believe that neither her parents of the councilor ever explained why she shouldn't attack people#and just told her don't do that#even the abusive horrible gay conversion camps give people reasons they shouldn't be gay--even if they're all wrong#i just don't believe that they didn't tell her that it was at least dangerous for her after the bird#or say don't drink blood from people because they won't like it or that it hurts them#idk her character just drives me insane#and i legit don't get how there are people who think shes great#both as bi rep and as a well thought out character#she doesn't have a brain half the time and makes zero sense#and complains about people not liking her for very valid reasons#like shes just a whiny incel whose upset she can't attack people whenever she feels like it

what do dabi spinner & shigaraki all mentally deal with in the paperbag series? aside from dabi being a system ofc
As in, like, disorders and mental health issues? Lmao they all have so many issues, I'll try to narrow down the main ones I portray them with in the series.
All three of them were severely isolated so they all have antisocial traits, difficulty understanding social cues, social anxiety, and communication issues. They all have PTSD that manifests in different ways- Dabi usually begins to shut down and dissociate when triggered, Shuichi developed a fawn response, and Shigaraki responds with aggression and anger when triggered. They all have substance abuse issues, though Tomura especially has a problem with alcoholism, Dabi's an addict, and Shuichi has trouble with alcohol and weed but not to the same degree as the other two.
Dabi - HC-DiD with programming, he also has dissociative amnesia and depersonalization due to that. He doesn't really understand the concept of consent or abuse. He's ftm trans so he has gender dysphoria, internalized transphobia and misogyny. He's a grooming victim. He dehumanizes himself and objectifies his body, usually using his body as a tool for survival via survival sex work, using sex in exchange for favors, etc. He's also suicidal and has self destructive behaviors and self harms. He gets low-key mindbroken in Gold and develops a sort of Stockholm syndrome/trauma bond with Shigaraki. Even outside of the DiD/Touya being a child alter, Dabi age regresses and is mentally delayed because of his trauma and the coma.
Shigaraki - He has issues with impulsive control and managing his anger, which causes violent outbursts. His violent outbursts can lead to psychosis at times and he blacks out, usually feeling guilty afterwards but he has issues identifying his emotions and empathizing with others so it's difficult for him to process that he actually feels guilty. If you squint, he has programming too due to the forced violence, rape, and murder - he's not a system though and doesn't really have any programming beyond violence and desensitization to violence programming. He also has issues understanding consent, but it more manifests as him not respecting others lack of consent or boundaries. He has a lot of control issues and possessive behavior, mostly due to abandonment issues and his abuse and grooming growing up- if he feels out of control or powerless he'll hurt others to regain a feeling of power, and if he thinks he might lose someone (or lose control of someone) he'll snap and become possessive and cruel.
Spinner - That man has so much BPD it isn't even funny, and Shigaraki is his favorite person. Because of the bpd he has identity issues, mood swings, self image issues, and codependency problems. Hes also got a lotta body insecurity, and I usually hc him with unspecified eating disorder/disordered eating. Also a grooming victim and has a tendency to be codependent and vulnerable to abuse because of neglect and isolation. Def has depression and self isolates. He also has internalized quirkism and tends to dehumanize himself.

How many works do you have on AO3? 39
What's your total AO3 word count? 844,252
What fandoms do you write for? Right now? Currently only for Ace Attorney and Digimon Adventure/02
Top five fics by kudos:
Turnabout Dishwasher (Ace Attorney
Glass Walls (Ace Attorney)
Thought Provoking (Ace Attorney)
Dragon’s Hoard (Ace Attorney)
On My Level (Ace Attorney)
Do you respond to comments? I was great at keeping up with them for years, but I had some mental health issues early this year that slowed everything down. I have SO MANY comments to respond to and it’s really overwhelming. I love everyone who sends comments to me though. It always means a lot and makes me smile.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I mostly write romcom so this one is hard. It is probably my Digimon fic called “It’s getting late and I cannot seem to find my way home tonight”. Even though it has a happy ending, there’s a really sad/angsty scene about Digimon partner loss in it.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? It’s Turnabout Dishwasher. It’s always going to be Turnabout Dishwasher. If you love an Ace Attorney character I can almost guarantee they have a happy ending in that story.
Do you get hate on fics? Not often. I had a troll once or twice (someone was homophobic about Daiken on my fic once and I was like ??????). The biggest example was when someone read Turnabout Dishwasher and told me my portrayal of Franziska von Karma was “wrong”. It really got to me because I actually thought I wrote an older Franziska really well. Fuck that person (can you tell I’m still salty about this lmao)
Do you write smut? Oh yeah. I believe the first smut I ever wrote was Daikeru, and I was really proud of it. Since then I’ve written a LOT more Daikeru smut, Jyoumi, Jyouchi, Daikenkeru…. You would think I would have written Ace Attorney smut at some point, but nope it’s all Digimon.
Craziest crossover: The only thing close to a crossover I’ve ever written is my Digimon Buzzfeed Unsolved AU. It’s really more of an AU, since I didn’t include any actual BFU people in it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? No, but if lore.fm ever has any legs, I guess my fic could get used on there. It’s adjacent to being stolen. But no, I’ve never had anyone plagiarize me that I’m aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated? No I have not.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! I co-wrote two Ace Attorney fics. One of them was with two other people, which was REALLY hard to coordinate. I miss those people dearly and I hope they’re doing well. Incidentally, if someone ever wants to co-write a Digimon fic with me, I would be delighted and honored.
All time favorite ship? Oh dear this is NOT easy. For over 15 years my OTP was from the series that shall not be named. I was sad but I’m over it. Here’s what currently stands:
Daikeru (Daisuke/Takeru from Digimon)
Blackmadhi (Simon/Nahyuta from Ace Attorney)
Rocketshipping (Jessie/James from Pokémon)
Touya/Yukito (from Cardcaptor Sakura)
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Oh man, I feel bad but it’s a fic I wrote when “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” came out in theaters. The fic is called “The Universal Language of Friendship”. I was working on it during NaNo 2023, but ran out of steam quickly and have no interest in picking it back up. I liked it when I was writing it though.
What are your writing strengths? Dialogue for sure. I am known for my video game style text box gimmick that allows for most of my stories to be heavily dialogue driven. I’m also told I’m good at comedic writing.
What are your writing weaknesses? Pretty much anything that doesn’t have a lot of dialogue. I’m trying to get better at descriptive language and scene setting. I’m also weak at writing tragedy and angst. But I’m working on that and hopefully getting better.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I only know English, so I imagine if I try anything in another language I would be pretty terrible at it.
First fandom you wrote in? It was Pokémon back and I was 11 or 12. I used to publish self insert Pokémon fic on forums. Also I co-wrote a TON of self insert Pokémon fic with a friend of mine, and we published it on our own tripod website back in the day. I guess this could be counted in my co-writing answer, but I’m too lazy to add it up there.
Favorite fic you’ve written? You would think I would say “Turnabout Dishwasher”…. But the actual answer is my Explicit Jou/Taichi (from Digimon) fic called “The Secret of Us”. I felt so inspired writing that story, and I believe it came out as something beautiful. It’s an incredibly rare pair, so not a lot of people have read it. But it’s one I go back to and reread and am like “yes this story is by me and for me”.

The Bakugou Heresy
by Theknown_unknown13
The thing about decisions is that every one of them has a consequence good/bad doesn't matter, everything we do or don't do has a consequence. The Emperor of Mankind made the decision to create his sons, he made the decision to neglect some of them, and then he made the decision to elevate one over the others and leave the crusades. There will be consequences. The real shame is that the people who will suffer the most...didn't have a damn thing to do with any of it.

A theory I have seen is that Fuyumi wants the family back so desperately, because she and Toya experienced the better Endeavor, where everything was alright. My guess is that after his decent into abuse its stopped being like a normal family and Natsuo and Shoto never experienced a normal family. But that is just a therory
okay so speaking as someone who grew up with an abusive and neglectful parent (though in my case it was my mom rather than my dad)... it’s complicated. there are a lot of emotions there. I think one of the things Horikoshi has really excelled at with the whole Todoroki plot is the way that he’s used the four siblings to show the different ways that children respond to parental abuse. and I can say from personal experience that all of them are valid. not just the bitterness, anger, and resentment that Touya, Natsuo, and Shouto have all shown at times, but also that intense (but tentative, almost wishful-thinking) longing to just have a normal family that we see from Fuyumi. speaking again from experience, that last one isn’t an outlier at all. in fact, in my case, I’d say that was honestly the strongest feeling out of all of them, and it even fueled a lot of the other three emotions. btw just a heads up I’m gonna delve into some personal stuff here briefly, so yeah. I won’t put details, but if anyone wants an abuse trigger warning added to the post or anything like that, just let me know.
so the thing is, even during my angriest times, if some magic wish-granting genie had poofed in and told the child me, “’sup, I’m here to solve all of your family problems, just tell me what you want me to do,” I wouldn’t have wanted them to take my mom away and lock her up somewhere and make her suffer or anything like that. honestly, even during the worst of it, the thing I wanted more than anything else was just to have a normal family. my mom had a lot of untreated mental health issues, and it was basically a situation where you never knew which version of her you were going to get on any given day. so there were times when she was a kind and loving mother who took care of me and my siblings. and there were a great many more times when she was temperamental and erratic, and we all (my dad included) basically just walked on eggshells around her and did our best to lay low and try not to bother her because even little things might set her off, and we never knew how she was going to react. and my dad worked a lot, and my sibs and I were homeschooled for reasons which I’m not gonna get into because this post is already veering off on too many tangents, but anyway so the short of it is that my sibs and I grew up in this unstable environment and ended up more or less raising ourselves. and I resented my mom a lot for that, growing up, and I still do honestly.
now a lot’s happened since then, and she’s gotten some help, and my siblings and I are all adults now and we’re more or less good, even though we all took a certain amount of Psychic Damage along the way and we’re each still dealing with that. and we each have different relationships with our mom now, and a couple of my sibs are even fairly close to her. but for my part, I pretty much have no relationship with her at all outside of seeing her a few times a year at family get-togethers and the like. the thing is, even though my mom did eventually (after a LOT of false starts and struggles and heartache) get some help, she’s never really shown remorse for what my siblings and I went through because of her. she’s never taken responsibility for any of it. she blames a lot of other people, and will go on long rants about all of the terrible things that have happened to her and all of the horrible ways people have treated her (some of which is true, and some of which very much is not). but there’s never even the slightest acknowledgement of any of the things she herself has done to hurt others. she either passes the blame or just pretends it never happened.
and honestly, it sucks. even now, there’s little to no real desire to change on her part. she’s gotten therapy and meds now, and so emotionally she’s much more stable than when we were kids, but one of the unfortunate results is that it’s all the more clear now that a lot of her behavior never had anything to do with her mental illness at all. she just didn’t care at all about how she was hurting others; or at the very least, didn’t care to face it. and that’s just how it is.
anyway, so I’m sorry to keep breaking away and telling you guys my own life story lol. but the point I’m trying to get at here is that I actually relate to Fuyumi so much, though. what I wanted more than anything was for my mom to care, and to say she was sorry, and for me to be able to believe that and to trust her, and for her to actually change. that was it.
and so for me, here’s the biggest difference between the Endeavor situation, and my own and so many others. the difference is that unlike people in real life, we know Endeavor is actually remorseful for what he’s done. we know it for certain because we’ve seen it for ourselves, from his own point of view. the manga actually lets us get inside his head and shows us that he really is sincere, that he really is sorry, and that he really is trying to change. and that’s something that’s impossible to get in real life. that certainty that the person really means it, that they’re genuinely remorseful and committed to making amends.
and for me, that’s fucking wish fulfillment right there. for the abusive parent to finally realize the error of their ways and be sorry and try to do right by their kids. I fucking wanted that. hell, I still want it, even though I’ve made my peace with things the way that they are. that chance to somehow heal the broken relationship, and have your parent genuinely try their best to be a real parent to you, even if it’s years after the fact? shit. I’d take that in a heartbeat.
and so when it comes to Fuyumi and her attempts to get her family to reconcile and experience a few normal things, I f feel that. I really do. because when you’re growing up in that type of situation, normal is all that you want. and I don’t think it’s anything that requires an explanation on her part, because it’s not actually an unusual reaction at all. it’s natural. it’s the most natural thing in the world. honestly it’s annoying that fandom sometimes tries to shame her for having those feelings. like honestly, fuck that. because the thing is, I’d wager that almost every kid who grew up with an abusive parent has at some time or other felt the exact same way.
and that includes Touya, Natsuo, and Shouto as well. literally the only difference between them and Fuyumi is that they feel that Endeavor’s change of heart is simply coming too late. it’s not that they don’t want their family back, just like she does; it’s that from their point of view, it’s something they can’t get back. for Fuyumi, that dream of having a normal family is something she’s still seeking. for Natsuo and Touya, that dream of having a normal family is something that was destroyed. something that Endeavor killed. something they’re in mourning of. and so Touya wants revenge for it, and Natsuo is trying to pick himself up and move past it. and meanwhile Shouto is caught somewhere in the middle of all of those reactions, because he’s still trying to decide whether or not he can ever bring himself to trust his father again. he’s somewhere in between his brothers’ mourning and his sister’s hopefulness. sort of a Schrodinger type of deal lol.
but anyway, the point I’m trying to make here is that all four siblings are really experiencing the same thing, just in different ways. Fuyu may be the one arranging family dinners and the like, but that same longing to be part of a normal family is at the core of Natsuo, Shouto, and even Touya’s behavior as well. Natsuo’s hurt and resentment, and Touya’s spite and bitterness, come from being denied the thing they want. and Fuyu’s shaky attempts at reconciliation come from her desire to still obtain it somehow. but at the end of the day they’re the exact same feelings. and they all come from the same place.
anyways, hopefully that makes some kind of sense. basically, everyone is valid. Fuyu is valid, Natsu and Shouto are valid, and Touya is murdery which isn’t cool, but his feelings are still valid too nonetheless. hugs and therapy for the Todoroki children in 2021, Horikoshi. please and thank you.

The Todorokis and the Takamis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello hello hello! Okay, so the fan translated chapter of BNHA 299 came out and I’m drowning in a downpour of feelings and parallels. So, below this cut, I’ll discuss parallels between Shouto and Hawks, Hawks and Endeavor, the Todoroki siblings and Keigo, and Rei and Tomie. I’ll also comment on the realistic depiction of domestic abuse survivors and dysfunctional family dynamics within the manga. Thanks in advance for reading!
The only hero Shouto probably had been exposed to as a child because he was isolated was his own dad, who abused his family. Shouto didn't want to be a hero because, as he had experienced personally, heroes were bad people who hurt their loved ones. The fire quirk he inherited from his father was something that hurt others. He had no other frame of reference for the fire quirk; his mother, who was kind and loving, had an ice quirk, Natsuo and Fuyumi had an ice quirk, and Touya (if Shouto even has memories of this) was being hurt by his own fire quirk. No wonder five year old Shouto was fearful of his left side and the thought of becoming a hero.
Tumblr media
But that changed when Rei introduced him to All Might via a television recording she showed him in secret. Shouto learned that his father wasn’t representative of all heroes. Not all heroes hurt their families, and this meant Shouto’s fire quirk was his to use for good. He realized his dad was, ironically, a bad hero, and that it was okay to want to be a hero because Shouto would be a good one. Even if Shouto forgot this lesson in the years after Rei was hospitalized, the memory was there and rekindled during the sports festival. Shouto truly does believe in heroes because he’s seen proof of it in All Might, who indirectly saved Shouto and his belief in heroes just by being himself on that television show. Shouto also believes in heroes because he believes in himself - he’s a kind person, and he wants to be a kind hero. That’s why he chose his hero name to be his given name: Shouto.
Hawks, like Shouto, was also isolated from the world. He didn't have any interaction with or exposure to heroes except for on television. His father was physically and mentally abusive, and his mother emotionally distant as a result of domestic abuse. When Endeavor, a hero Hawks had a plushie of because his mom had given it to him in secret, indirectly saved him from an abusive household by arresting his father, Hawks started believing in heroes. They were real, and he was proof people could be saved because he hadn’t even been asking for help and Endeavor did it anyway. The plushie his mom had gotten him to play with as a substitute for not being able to go outside, the one Hawks held onto for comfort when he felt sad and alone, came “alive” and saved him.
Tumblr media
But Hawks was still in a bad situation because his mother's mental health wasn't in the best state after years of enduring domestic abuse. Hawks’ mother Tomie learned to view Hawks as the chain between herself and the Thief Takami. She might have been stuck in a "stay together for the kid" situation, coupled with financial instability and, on Takami's part, a begrudging sense of social responsibility to help raise the kid he fathered. Tomie learned to associate Takami’s feathers with pain, and because Hawks has feathers like his father and the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, she says, “you’re his son, aren’t you?”
But Hawks soon finds good in the world and good in himself when he saves people during that accident. By saving others, he has saved himself without even intending to. The commission essentially takes him away from his mother who, because to her mental instability due to years of abuse, couldn’t raise him or nurture him. After abandoning his name, Hawks held on to Endeavor as a source of inspiration. Hawks had an idol he could look up to and be like as he trained at the commission. Endeavor was an example of how to stay strong and never lose hope. After all, everyone knew it would be pointless to try and surpass All Might but Endeavor kept trying anyway, despite the impossibilities. Young Hawks admired that because he was stuck in a similar situation - he never even dared to hope his life would get better until Endeavor arrested Takami the Thief. So to this day, Hawks idolizes Endeavor the hero.
Tumblr media
Hawks, as an outsider to the Todoroki family, doesn’t know what they have endured. He hasn’t been around Shouto much, but from what he has seen, he thinks Shouto admires Endeavor the hero the same way Hawks does. It’s not an incorrect statement, because Shouto does recognize that Endeavor the hero is great, but it’s not a correct statement either. Shouto has the ability to separate Endeavor from Enji. Shouto wants to see what Enji the father has the potential to become now that Enji wants to atone, and even that seems to be for his sister’s sake, for her dream of having a family. Even Endeavor thought the same thing until Shouto makes it clear he’s not forgiven.
Tumblr media
But Hawks doesn’t know this. Hawks probably assumes that because Shouto accepted interning with Endeavor and looked at Endeavor in awe that Shouto’s relationship with Endeavor must be on the mend. That maybe the abuse is behind them and the family is healthier. Hawks himself would never reach out to his own father or be near him, so why would Shouto? The only logical explanation and evidence Hawks has is that maybe Endeavor was forgiven and completely different now. Hawks, like Dabi, has no way to know that Shouto is holding his father accountable for abusing Rei and used to burn with self-destructive hatred inside. Hawks has no way of knowing Natsuo’s turmoil or that Fuyumi shares the same feelings as Natsuo, that Endeavor has a long way to go earn a place in his children’s lives - if they even let him.
Tumblr media
Hawks is clinging onto his faith in heroes because he still believes in himself, in Endeavor, and in heroes. He’s like Shouto and believes in heroes and Endeavor despite Endeavor’s actions as a father. Shouto knows Endeavor is a skilled hero, but also accepts that people have different roles and may be shitty at one and great at another. Shouto knows Endeavor’s ambition and dedication to a title for his work drove him to hurt his family. Shouto knows Endeavor did this because Endeavor’s entire identity is his hero work - it’s almost expected that he put his ambitions before his family. Endeavor is just now, after 20 years, realizing he has another identity and role he failed to accept: Enji the father and husband. Now that he’s reached his career goals and realized the view at the top wasn’t as great or fulfilling as he imagined, he’s trying to figure out what Enji the father can do for his family.
Just like Endeavor, Hawks’ whole identity is his hero persona, and if that hero doesn’t exist anymore, then Hawks would be lost. He’d have nothing. His whole life’s meaning - saving people - would be gone, and he has no connections to any roles (son, friend, citizen) because he’s severed ties with his parents and isn’t close to anyone. He can’t go back to being Keigo because it was too painful and hopeless being Keigo. Even if the commission is turning his back on him, he’ll still be the hero Hawks, this time on his own terms. Now that he’s free of their control, he wants to help the Endeavor he always looked up to as a sign of loyalty to him and possibly a vague way of returning the favor for indirectly rescuing Keigo all those years ago.
Tumblr media
Rei and Tomie
Both mothers reacted similarly to their domestic abuse. Both mothers learned to associate their children with their abuser based on physical inherited traits. The Todoroki siblings each have a trait of their father’s (Touya has his eye color, Fuyumi has her red in her hair, Natsuo has his thick and tall stature, Shouto’s entire left side) and Hawks inherited feathers from his father. This fear serves as a small scaled representation of the societal stigma faced by those who possess lesser favorable quirks. These mothers learned their partner’s quirks were only used to hurt them or cause damage, and society has learned that certain quirks like Toga’s blood-sucking are inherently bad and are an indicator of morality.
Tumblr media
Like IRL domestic abuse victims, both mothers felt hopeless and powerless in their situation. Tomie asked her partner to fix the television without investigating what was wrong with it herself first. Tomie couldn’t care for herself or her son after Takami had been arrested - she’d been told what to do for so long and relied on Takami to provide (probably because he was paranoid and possibly wouldn’t let her interact with others out of fear she’d report him to the police) that she had trouble adjusting to any other kind of lifestyle. Making decisions was a skill she hadn’t used in years. Tomie, now homeless, compared Hawks to their abuser and expected him to provide by committing crimes too, which visibly hurt her son’s feelings. Some people who experience abuse subconsciously rely on their children to step up into a sort of caretaker/parent role. This is called parentification, and it just...sort of happens. This is why it makes sense Hawks’ identity revolves around being useful and wanting to help others. He had learned from a young age that if he wasn’t helping people, he had no value.
This isn’t to cast blame or judge Tomie, but to bring awareness to a boundary issue and inadvertent role reversal some victims and their families deal with as a result of abusive households. To parallel Tomie wanting Hawks to provide for the family, Endeavor also passively let Fuyumi to step up and fill the role of her missing parents. She carried a lot of the family emotional burdens after Rei was hospitalized, takes care of the family home, visits and cares for her mother at the hospital, and looks out for her younger brothers wellbeing in every sense of the word. Fuyumi is the unifying, optimistic link between Endeavor and his family. Even Endeavor recognizes Fuyumi’s parentification, though he doesn’t call it by its name.
Tumblr media
Rei expressed her hopelessness when she spoke with her mother on the phone about not being able to raise her children anymore, but couldn’t come up with a solution. She couldn’t raise her children anymore - and that was it. She didn’t ask her mother for help or come up with any ideas because she felt powerless. And again, this isn’t to demonize or blame Rei, but to point out that her reaction is reflective of the challenges some abuse victims face. Some people don’t know how to get out of an abusive relationship for various complicated, valid, and life-threatening reasons, no matter what logic outsiders apply to the situation. Some mothers feel trapped, like Rei and Tomie.
Both Rei and Tomie hurt their children, either emotionally or physically. In the light novels, Natsuo reveals that Rei was emotionally distant after Shouto was born, probably out of concern for Endeavor’s likely unhealthy enthusiasm to train Shouto. She was probably protective of Shouto, and inadvertently made Natsuo feel abandoned by focusing on her youngest. Like Keigo, Natsuo felt alone despite his mother being nearby physically. And also like Keigo, Natsuo eventually realized that the situation was complicated and his parents made mistakes and had issues that didn’t reflect their feelings toward him. Natsuo realizes his mother loved him still. He realizes Shouto didn’t have it better than he did because he had his mother’s attention, and Keigo realizes that even with his father gone, his mother isn’t “fixed.” Keigo recognizes that his parents had deep flaws and the Todoroki siblings recognize their parents’ too. Rei didn’t mean to hurt Shouto maliciously; Endeavor is to blame for their mother’s mental state.
Tumblr media
It’s implied that Tomie has an alcohol problem from the bottles laying around the unkempt Takami home. She uses alcohol to remove herself from reality, to put distance between herself, those she perceives are hurting her, and to hide. Running away doesn’t necessarily mean that she doesn’t care about her son - emotions and people are complex and not always black and white - but that she doesn’t have the mental and emotional capacity to nurture him. She’s distancing herself from her feelings (probably fear, hopelessness, dread) and with that she’s also distancing from her son. This might have been going on for a while because Keigo doesn’t even consider going to his mother for comfort. He goes to his inanimate Endeavor plushie instead.
It’s also important to note that Keigo realizes that his parents’ relationship is devoid of love, and he probably thinks this is the reaso why he doesn’t receive any love from them. He wasn’t born from a loving relationship. The chapter implies he just...happened because Takami was hiding out with Tomie. Now Tomie doesn’t have an identity or will outside of hiding Takami and helping him, and Takami resents Keigo for tethering him to a person he thinks is useless and is holding him back.
Tumblr media
In their own way, both mothers tried to console their child and ease the pain caused by their fathers. Rei did this by listening to Shouto, showing him that good heroes do exist, and reassuring him that he’s not his father. She was a loving mother, as noted by young Natsuo’s jealousy toward Shouto for “taking up” his mother’s attention. Her children are eager and willing to have a relationship with her. Tomie showed love for her son by buying that discounted Endeavor plushie in an effort to make up for the fact that Takami wouldn’t let him play outside. It’s important to note that while their family’s life was seemingly sustained by the fruit of Takami’s crimes, Tomie used what limited money the family had to pay for the toy, meaning that she wanted to ease some of her son’s pain and give him a source of strength. This was all she could manage considering the state of mind she was in. While it wasn’t big, she did the best she could, and apparently it left an impact because Hawks remembers the moment clearly.
Tumblr media
The difference between these women and their families, which also mirrors real life, is that some work toward rebuilding their relationships and some don’t. The Todoroki’s support each other, and the Takamis are distant from each other. This isn’t to judge or blame or say one way is wrong and another is right, but to explore how this decision has and will influence Hawks and the Torodokis.
Rei has made progress in her recovery and will likely be discharged soon, if she hasn’t already been. The family continues to identify and work through issues both as a unit and individually. Shouto realizes that it’s okay to use his left side, Natsuo is holding space for his unresolved grief and calling out Endeavor, and Fuyumi is hoping to finally have a family. Together, they’ve found healing from the trauma they suffererd together. Touya being alive only adds to this family’s ability to finally be happy and whole, though the journey may be difficult and painful.
Meanwhile, the Takami’s didn’t unite to heal together. Hawks’ father went to jail, Tomie and Keigo never saw him again and don’t want to, and Tomie accepted the commission’s offer to take care of her financially if she gave up Keigo. Keigo himself became Hawks, who suspected it was his mother who leaked his background to Dabi and wasn’t surprised to find out that he was right. He’s not visibly upset about his mother leaving either, which could either be him being emotionally numb or a sign his relationship with his mother never improved. It seems like he’s holding on to the scrap of love she did give him, as seen by his flashback to her holding his hand and remembering her words to “be strong like this guy.” But now she’s gone, and like he said, his shackles are gone.
Tumblr media
So, what does this mean? Is Hawks wrong to still believe in Endeavor? Was Tomie wrong for revealing Hawks to Dabi and then leaving without notifying Hawks first? Given these character’s complex traumas, it’s hard to say without blaming someone for how they react to their trauma. It’s hard to apply logic to thinking and feelings that have been shaped by trauma. It’s uncomfortable to sit and see people make decisions that hurt others. Sometimes there is no right and wrong, sometimes there is wrong right and right wrong, and we have to sit and watch things play out, watch people react to the world through a trauma lens.
Sometimes there’s no answer at all. I think that’s what adds a tragic touch to Hawks, to the Todorokis, to the League - they’re all reacting to their trauma in different ways, some in socially acceptable ways (Natsuo, Shouto) and some not (Dabi), and there’s no clear cut answer without passing judgment or telling someone how to react to their trauma. How does someone rewire their brain’s neuropathways from the ones formed by trauma to healthier ones, especially without professional help or even self-awareness.
It’s hard to watch all these characters suffer, especially when it hits so close to home for some of us. Let’s see what the next chapters bring! We’re not seeing the big picture just yet, and there is always time for epiphanies, breakthroughs, and change of hearts and minds.

I just saw myself mentioned in a post about All Might bashing. So, now I feel like expanding on pet peeves in terms of characterization of characters based on new information presented in the manga.
Endeavor: In terms of this dude he is a terrible father with his treatment of both his youngest and oldest sons. However while how he went about things was terrible he isn’t the monster people often portray him as. He isn’t a bad hero (which is a pet peeve when people say he makes a lot of mistake and such on the job that leads to casualties) he has the highest rate of cases solved, more than All Might actually! Heck other than maybe All Might he is perfectly professional and would probably work well with others. The issue is that he doesn’t inspire the level of trust that All Might does which keeps him firmly on the number two spot.
He did enter a quirk marriage with his wife Rei however it wasn’t Enji who really forced her into it, he probably would have been okay with her rejecting his offer. However it’s stated that Rei accepted for her family and if she had rejected it then it was through family pressure. Touya and Fuyumi were born without the ideal quirk he was disappointed but in his own words he wasn’t disappointed in them. Not to mention Rei wanted more children so that they could encourage each other. At least with the first two children there was no issues.
Until Touya was revealed have an incompatible quirk to his body. That’s when things changed, the next two children Natsuo and Fuyumi were mostly created so that hopefully one of them would have the quirk combination Enji wanted so that Touya would give up on trying to meet his fathers goal. Only from what’s shown Touya most likely saw this as his father rejecting him and thinking he wasn’t good enough of a son for him.
This in turn made him aim his frustration at the youngest, Shouto. I’m assuming since he had the “correct” quirk and was thus the rival of his fathers attention and expectations (although later he admits he was in the wrong for doing that so there was hope in salvaging any relationships) In a way though that is exactly what happened. Enji made the misguided decision to separate Shouto from the other children in order to prevent such an event from happening again. He even removed himself from Touya’s life since Touya told him that his goals and aspirations are because of him. He was trying to “kill” the drive. Only it didn’t work out that way and added to the issue.
Now really looking into the issue, you have a child who is hurting themselves and worst yet the behavior has become habitual because said child wants you to basically pay attention to them or maybe spend time with them. Personally from Rei and Enji’s comments they were probably missing the point of why Touya acted the way he did and was likely just trying gain any evidence that he was not a “failure.” In this case they both failed their children in that regard in setting the record straight.
After Touya died things got worse. There is no denying that Enji was the toxic one in the relationship. His actions to Shouto and changed behavior towards her (likely for placing the blame on her for Touya) affected her mental health which in turn made her hate him (also blaming him for Touya and any abuse after the fact).
Now my pet peeve is that often times he is diminished to a caricature of who he really is. (I’m specifically ignoring anything before the revelation of the Todoroki backstory since back then we all thought we knew everything, but it turned out there was more to the story) When clearly there was more going on in the story, but nope just take the low hanging fruit I guess.
I can appreciate how he changed since his first introduction and how he finally grows from arguably years of denial. It seems like he always knew what he went wrong with Touya but couldn’t bring himself to learn from it. So he made the same mistake over and over again. Not to mention he became the man Touya thought he was and fell to his darker impulses.
In reality there was never going to be any pay off even if Shouto did over take All Might since at the end he burned every bridge he had with his family. Now if he wants to repent then he needs to work on it and that’s something amazing since it would have been so easy to leave him as a unrelenting jackass. But the author didn’t he chose to make a man who was hit with the weight of his actions and wants to do better and be better. Here’s hoping we can learn more about what happened to Touya after he was declared legally dead soon.

Note
ok so i've seen boku no hero academia talked about before on here before
the first in relation to the mother-son ship of the main character izuku and his mother inko
(not my cup of tea but i understand the appeal)
then there's the iida brothers
(which, straight laced class rep going to commit revenge murder for his brother/idol/crush is my jam)
buuuut no one has touched on the gold mine that is the todoroki family
the family as a whole is like super fucked up and there's so much you can do there
first is the father enji (endeavor) i admit i don't ship him with any of the other todorokis but that's bc he's a child abuser and i personally don't like him
that said there is still a lot of potential
first up is the (until recently) assumed dead first son touya
(who i will be referring to as dabi bc that is his chosen name and as a trans guy seeing characters name choices when specifically chosen to distance themselves from who or what they were before ignored is a pet peeve of mine)
dabi was the oldest and originally favored child until his body proved incompatible with his powers
(he had fire powers with an ice body)
he felt used and abandoned becoming obsessed with getting his father's attention and approval to the point that he trained himself so hard that he almost (accidentally) killed himself thus becoming obsessed with killing endeavor for ruining him
(i'm sure you can see the potential appeal)
then there's fuyumi the second child and the eldest daughter who after her mother's psychotic break (more on this later) stepped into the mothering role for her two younger brothers and i'm sure you can see where this would go in relation to her father
then there's natsuo second son and third child who just hates the fuck out of endeavor without going murder happy and i actually thinks there's a lot of potential of someone just always willing to call endeavor on his bs and of all his kids that's natsuo
finally we have shouto the youngest child endeavor's "master piece" since the whole reason he married his wife was for a diy eugenics experiment
(hero's have rankings endeavor's always 2nd place he decided that if his kid got 1st place it would be like him getting 1st)
anyways he "favors" shouto by treating him like shit and abusing him in the name of "training" and honestly just being terrible for shouto's mental health eventually endeavor gets his head out of his ass and tries being a better person and shouto forgives him
(i'm sorry i tried to make this as unbiased as i could but my feelings on that last one probably slipped through, sorry)
next up is rei the mother
the best way to describe her and endeavor's marriage is an arranged one that went sour
she had a psychotic break and physically scared her child
rei x dabi is sweet but fucked up
before dabi "died" he did and said some fucked up things to his mom
(that he probably picked up from his father)
but after he went off the deep end and when he was going out to kill his father he made rei a video that was so sweet explaining everything that happened and showing off his scars to her
showing he's grown and doesn't actively blame her anymore
next up is fuyumi the only daughter
she constantly visited her mother in the hospital and as she took her mother's place in the home there could be bonding from the stress of that that could move into something more
natsuo is the person i think is most likely to call out rei on her issues as a parent with being cruel or blaming her and it would allow her realize how she's messed up and grow to be better
shouto is the youngest and the child rei ended up scaring
the negative aspects of her marriage with endeavor had gotten physical and she was handling it terribly
she ended up breaking and attacking shouto pouring hot tea on his face
after this when rei is place in a mental hospital shouto never seems to blame her only blaming endeavor and in fact appears to revere rei
making her the reason he wants to complete his dream and be a hero
even suppressing the part himself that he feels rei rejected
and not going to the hospital so that his presence can't harm her further
when he finally does visit shouto is happy that rei doesn't blame him for not visiting
dabi's section will be last because my favorite todocest ship is in that section and i want to end my rant on it
fuyumi is the eldest daughter who took up the mothering role and wants her family to be normal so badly
with natsuo he's always willing to talk her to relax and take of herself and i think he's someone that she would seek comfort in because she knows that he may call her out when what she's doing is toxic for herself he's also willing to be comfortable place to rest
then there's shouto who is the sibling she probably helped the most and considering how endeavor generally kept shouto away from his failed experiments she's probably the sibling shouto knows the best which means that shouto is more likely to ask her things and go to her for comfort
and the we have natsuo and shouto
who would validate shouto's feelings
shouto's allowed to be mad at endeavor his abuse, to be mad rei for literally scaring his face, and mad at fuyumi for the way she tries to subtlety pressure him into forgiving endeavor
(and later mad at dabi for leaving, for not trying to save them, for not exposing endeavor's shitty-ness and for trying to kill shouto)
and i think natsuo would be good for shouto because shouto never seems to behave like his feelings and hurts are valid and someone telling him that they are would be fantastic for his mental health
and finally dabi
i've summed him up plenty so first is fuyumi
before we got confirmation of ages
(and even that dabi was touya)
a lot of ppl had dabi and fuyumi as twins
so there's a natural understanding of the two oldest children closest in age of how fucked up their home life is and seeking comfort in each other
nastuo has a similar premise but with it actually happening in canon as we see dabi when he was younger complaining to natsuo about how fucked up it is that their dad ignores them plus natsuo would absolutely tell dabi to tone down the murder bs
ok dabi and shouto
when we first meet dabi we don't know he's touya he just someone who hates heros and is in the group attacking shouto's class and kidnapping a student
so there's just a weirdly long and intense eye contact scene where dabi manages to succeed in kidnapping the other student and going "how sad todoroki shouto"
when things are finally revealed about dabi's identity dabi admits that he wants to kill shouto too because he got all the attention as a child
and there's a lot of parallels
post reveal shouto admits that he was like dabi before the main character knocked some sense into him
full of rag and unhappiness and he want to help his brother
and there's so much potential for growth on both sides
Wow, I love families with so much to do dig into and you've laid out all the relationships so well. Lots of kids, lots to ship, lots of different dynamics. I love it!
Thank you so much for explaining so that those of us unfamiliar with the story could get a sense of the family.
It's so messed up and I'm super into it.

101 Open MHA Gen Prompts
I had a very long ask game where people gave me fake titles and I came up with fic ideas to go with them.  Multiple people asked to use some of them as prompts, and some of my friends have lately maligned the lack of gen prompts out there, so I decided to compile them all into a single post.  Almost all of these are gen, aka not shipping, but you can do what you want I’m not your boss.  Everything is free and open to use WITH CREDIT, so have fun with my word vomit.
1. In Dreams I Had the Sun - Being the number one hero isn’t all it’a cracked up to be, Toshinori realizes early on
2. The Chainlink Fence that Held the Ocean - In his new book post-retirement, All Might opens up about his regrets, struggles with mental health, and his issues with the hero system as a whole.  The backlash is swift and intense.
3. Welcome to the Loud Silence - After an injury, Izuku is rendered deaf.
4. Water Since Turned Red - After a villain attack nearly kills All Might, the beach where Izuku used to go to find comfort now feels tainted.
5. all scrap left untouched is bound together - A group hero students who failed the provincial license exam for the third time, effectively ending their careers before they start, get together to take revenge on UA’s first years who beat them out.
6. You’ve saved more more times than you know - Times All Might saved people without his powers, just by being a cool, nice dude.
7. No Amount of Tragedy Can Justify Your Actions - A dying All for One tries to justify his centuries of cruelty to an uncaring Toshinori.
8. To Leave a Cage Locked - One for All is conscious and has a will of its own, one that doesn’t always line up with Izuku’s wellbeing.
9. Okay, who let in the Kraken? - Izuku is the reincarnation of an ancient eldritch horror.
10. keep us alive up above - Izuku and Shigaraki get trapped together somewhere.  Izuku knows he needs the villain’s help to survive and escape, but the other would rather they both die.
11. The world will revolve around me neither less - The ebbs and flows of AFO’s influence over the years.

76. Where The Dead Come To Rest - The kids come home after a long, grueling mission where they saw some shit, and are too tired to process what they went through.  They take off their gear for plain clothes, then sit in the common room in silence long into the night, not wanting to open themselves up but also not wanting to be alone.
77. Rivalry - Nighteye tries to pit Izuku and Mirio against one another.  It goes right over Mirio’s head, but Izuku becomes convinced the other boy is in on Nighteye’s plan to wear him down until he gives up One for All.
78. A Subtle Language - All Might and Nana never said out loud that they loved each other, but little things told them that they did.  All Might hopes to pass a similar love down to his own successor.  But Izuku is very different than himself as a kid, and he needs to learn a new subtle language of affection.
79. It’s Gone - One for All stops working one day.
80. A Sight For Sore Eyes - All Might looking after Izuku in the aftermath of the second movie.
81. Loose Lips (sink ships) - Bakugou blurts out something about One for All during a rage, so the rest of the class jump on him and Izuku for answers.
82. No Expectations - Word gets out that All Might is going to choose a successor.  None of the theories or speculation online resemble Izuku in the slightest.
83. Eden was Only a Garden - Izuku gets hit with a quirk that erases some of his most traumatic memories, but in doing so loses part of who he is.
84. Run it Down - With all Izuku’s new quirks and his incredible skill, some of the other students with similar powers (Iida, Sero, Uraraka) start to feel like izuku is upstaging them.  And it affects their friendship.
85. Fool's Gold - Bakugou grows even more jealous of Izuku having One for All, and his relationship with All Might.  He thinks that if he could just prove himself to be more worthy, All Might would change his mind and name him his successor.  But in reality, he ends up jeopardizing the relationship they already have.
86. somewhere down the road - The final deadline for Nighteye’s predictions passes, and All Might lives.  He debates telling Izuku, as even though it would be a weight off the boy’s mind, he doesn’t want to jinx it.  He will still die eventually after all.
