The Hidden Watcher of Backstage

Meiro Seshitse

Ability: Invocation of Alternate Worlds

The backstage yokai who quietly observes from the shadows. She has a power that connects her to different dimensions, allowing her to interact with places mentioned in rumors both within and outside the village.

Born from the urban legend surrounding unknown realms, Meiro caught the attention of Okina, who made her an underling.

This legend originated around the time of the events of seasons incedent, when doors began appearing. Confused youkai started forming theories, and the rumors spread to the ears of the villagers.

Additionally, an urban legend from the outside world, accidentally shared by Sumireko, was attributed to Meiro's appearance. This legend spoke of hidden worlds behind the stage, where logic does not apply.

Before arriving in Gensokyo, Meiro resided in those strange worlds. Being the embodiment of those worlds, she went unnoticed, leading her to isolate herself. However, Reimu stumbled into her world as the rumor turned into reality, causing villagers to vanish. After a climactic danmaku battle, Reimu agreed to bring Meiro to Gensokyo if she returned the missing villagers.

The rumor was not specifically about Okina, but rather about Meiro's power, spreading and distorting through a game of broken telephone. Okina, being the deity of back doors, quickly recognized that the situation and rumor could be consequences of her powers, sparking her interest in the newly appeared yokai.

In Gensokyo, Meiro holds a similar role to the youkai who work under Okina. Yukari finds her intriguing, while Reimu simply sees her as another youkai in Gensokyo, occasionally appearing from walls with an eerie presence.

Touhou style myth I absolutely loved drawing.

If you’re Mexican or live in Mexican areas like me, you’ve likely seen or heard of La Calavera Catrina around dios de Los muertos. Mean the dapper skull, it’s the representation of souls traveling over, seen as a skeleton in women’s clothing and a decorated hat, beloved and ready to party. While calaveras have long been used to represent the dead, the Calavera Catrina was first seen in 1913, from which it would be common place as representation of the holiday, in decoration and costume.

Soo I made a Touhou OC

Her name is Akemi Taihoumaru (大砲丸 朱実)

Owns a grocery store in the Human Village, she doesn't have any magical ability so she uses firearms to defend herself from youkais.

She has the title of "Sniper of the Human Village"

First post of my Touhou OC on this account! Her name is Misaki Toriyama (鳥山 未彩紀) roughly inspired by the real life Toriyama Sekien after looking at his artwork from “The Illustrated One Hundred Demons from the Past and Present.” Though maintaining a sturdy body, she is a youkai basically composed of a black ink substance and has the ability to lend her sentience to anything she draws. In other words, her drawings can manifest in real life and are animated to serve her needs. On top of that, she uses a naginata which she is very fast and scary with. She works as a mangaka, with her original series being successful among both human and youkai readers.

If you feel like you’ve seen this image before, you probably have! I basically just remastered last year’s “ZUN art” drawing with her updated design, as not many changes were made. I plan to make another post that goes more in-depth on her character in the future, as I’d like to properly introduce her in some of my own art styles as well. The cropping is getting on my nerves but it was goofy drawing other funny faces on her.

Name: Amahiko(海彦) Mitsu(written as 光, but also 三 yeah, like literally 3 bc 3 “legs” lol)

Species: Amabie (amabiko)

While going through the backlog of my old OCs I found two really scrungy old og 2hus, their goofiness kinda spoke to me, so here I am, making some new art for them and better names while I’m at it.

The og version of Mitsu was made in 2018-ish, I used to draw on paper only or with mouse back then, so it looks kinda funny))

I can’t really remember what her og name was, mainly bc it was a sloppy machine translation. It’s not like I know Japanese now, so… Anyways, I just kinda remember her as the one w squid hat.

Is squid hat lore relevant? No. Do I like it? Yes, vm. On her new art she is holding magical bamboo seeds, part of the lore that I’m still cooking.
