MY THOUGHTS ON TOTAL DRAMA 2023!
Hey everyone! Hope you campers are doing well today because I have a review just for you!
Total Drama is a franchise I didn't get to watch live on television. Mainly because I didn't get to see it growing up. However, that all changed when I reached high school and got majorly hooked. I liked the campers, the challenges, the wacky hijinks, the romance drama, and everything that makes the show unique. My favorite season is ROTI for a long time (Please don't hate. World Tour is a close third to the Ridonculous Race for me). All the characters, even the terrible ones, have all made quite the impression on me. For years, I've waited for new content to be uploaded, watching the stupid Dramarama, was there when Reunion shut down, and enjoy the pseudo series of Disventure Camp.
Now a new season has come out and let me be positive in saying that this was one of the best seasons in a long time.
New Chris voice? Doesn't bother me since I kinda liked the new voice direction.
All new cast instead of the old one? Thank goodness! The old cast is great, but new people are fun too! Stop whining for the old and embrace the new for a change.
Multicultural and LGBTQ rep? Sign me up! I loved Nichelle, Priya, Millie, Damien, and Bowie so much! Was surprised at the pairing of Bowie and Raj, too. Love them boys so much!
Challenges that felt different, but still stuck with the formula? Heck yeah! I loved the selfie one, the hunger one was funny, and the catapult one was so cool!
Were there negatives? Emma and Chase brought the season down sometimes. I liked Emma, but not enough to call her my favorite. She just needs to break up with that egotistical slimeball called Chase! Scary Girl being eliminated early hurt me too. She was funny. Damien got robbed, but he did that to himself.
My favorite characters made this season great for me!
Priya is my baby! She's funny, determined, and a hard worker. An athletic nerd girl to her core who trained to be on this show. I don't get the Priya hate, she's amazing! Sure she carried Millie, but that's what a girl in her shoes would do to a best friend. I liked their dynamic a lot.
Millie surprised me with how much I started to like her. She started off as a closet nerd that had a pension for being judgemental and mended her ways. Making friends with Priya was the best thing that ever happened to her. I bet she would get more love if they made her a villian.
Bowie....need I say more? He's the moment, the true villian in my opinion, and he slayed! His relationship with Raj was sweet, his friendship with Emma was funny, and his rivalry with Julia was top notch! This boy should come back for another season and kill it again!
Scary Girl aka Lauren was a fun character. A sweet little psycho who was Gothic and funny. I lived her wild card mindset of just being kooky and nutty while displaying certain strengths.
Damien was a cool nerd. Like he was chill and scared, but also knew his science. He came on the show expecting the million to be given to him. He's like if you mixed DJ with Cameron and added a dash of awesome. He wanted to get off so bad that he wasted his time. Bummer...
I feel bad for Nichelle though. Girlboss turned Girlfail real fast. I thought she was going to be the cool girl a la Heather and become the major villian. However, I just wanted to hug her instead. Hope she gets another season too.
Raj and Wayne are package deal and the bestest of bros. Wayne cracked me up when he noticed Raj was gay. He was literally the fan base when we all heard. Raj was a sweetie too. His crush on Bowie was the right amount of meet cute, awkward glances, and then Bowie became his hero. Boy loves his man more than hockey itself. How darling!
The other characters were okay in my opinion. Some were decent like MK and Zee. Chase can go die in a ditch with his car's breaks cut. Ripper was annoying. Julia was like a better version of crazy Courtney with Heather skills. Axel was fine too.
Chris and Chef's dynamic was much better than previously bad ones and Chef made me chuckle a few times. He's such an overprotective dad figure to the campers when he wants to.
Overall, I loved how the new season gave us a new perspective. Thirteen episodes are just okay to me, but I hope for more next time. Give this season a chance and maybe two watches before you come down on the hammer. It has gen z kids as the protagonists now, they are going to be different from the old cast. They were early z's, these campers are late z's. Do not be so hard on them.

We need a Total Drama character who gets really upset when the other contestants swear, but their idea of swearing is so muddled down that they get mad when people say things like "shoot" or "dang it" or "duh"

Random Thoughts about High School Frenemy (EP 1 – 8) : Let Free the curse of Siamwit School
Tumblr media
It's been 8 episodes that I've watched HSF and there is something that I found very interesting in the story and I've been thinking about it since episode 5. However, I needed some time to think about how I would be talking about it. This series lives rent free in my mind at the moment and there are so many things to say. This time I want to talk about the feud in Siamwit School between Udon Phithak campus and Thep Burapha. It's probably something the viewers of the OG version already experienced so I hope they won't mind that I'm talking about it because I've discovered the story through HSF and I haven't watched the OG version (not planning to watch it yet too because I want to experience HSF without knowing anything else prior).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The animosity between the two campus started 16 years ago before the story of Shin and Saint. Louis, a student from Udon Phithak was bullying other students from Thep Burapha. They were the victims of extortion. This student was stopped by Sung, who was a student at that time from Thep Burapha. He stopped the extortion by being more violent to Louis and his followers. Soon, Louis was bullied by students from Thep Burapha. It was revenge for them, as he was the one who bullied them before or made them feeling insecure. The viciousness of their actions started to be impossible for him to bear and he committed suicide by jumping of a building. From this point, the hatred between the two campus started and never stopped. In the present time, Shin is the leader of the Udon Phithak's campus and Ken is supposed to be the leader of the Thep Burapha's campus, before the school administrator Paphada decides to merge the two campus together. Most of the students or teachers can't exactly remember well how the conflict started. They know that one student died and that the conflict never stopped from this point, but who were the real protagonists of it, they don't remember. In the present, Sung is a teacher who is working with Class 2 where you can find Shin, Ken, Saint and different students from either Udon Phithak or Thep Burapha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think there is a parallel between Sung's past and Shin and Saint's lives. Sung was a hot-headed student from Thep Burapha. He probably thought at that time that he was saving his fellow students and his violence was justified because Louis was also very violent towards others. Maybe he thought it was justice. The consequences of his actions only became real when he witnessed the suicide of Louis. We don't know yet what happened, but from this time he probably rethought his life. In the flashback, we saw that Sung never really back down from fighting against Louis or other students from Udon Phithak. He was apparently a good fighter. However, when Sung met Jeng to plead for his students' safety, he tells Jeng that he is “a peaceful man” and that he has other means to act that doesn't require violence or fighting. Sung from the past would probably have fought with Jeng and his gang to obtain what he wanted. The Sung for the present probably doesn't want to repeat the same mistake from the past. He still feels guilty as it is shown in his conversation with another teacher from the school. I wonder if Sung agreed to teach to Class 2 because he saw himself in them and knowing the terrible consequence of hatred, he may want to end this before history repeats itself. I just wonder why he thinks his way is better than Jan. I feel like the students bonded more with Jan than Sung, but I may be wrong because it's true they remain on the defensive with every teacher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shin, just like Sung, started to become the leader of his campus, when he defended Chatjen the same way Sung defended his fellow student. Someone was extorting money, and they stopped them by saying they are their friend. In both ways, they wanted to fight to make sure their friends/ fellow students would be free from their bully. When you watch the series, they almost say the same thing. I still think it's a pity that Sung never really try to reach out to Saint or Shin because he must know what it feels. When Sung wants to help the students, it's never by talking to them or trying to convince them. It's mostly the job of Jan even though she was never in the same situation. It's like she gets the role of caring, while he gets the role of protecting them from behind. I hope he will have in the next episodes the possibility to show them how he relates easily to what they are living because of his past. I get that he would prefer that it stays in the past because he is ashamed of what happened. In this end, Louis died because of him and Jom who was the bully in Shin's time, also died. If Louis died as a direct consequence of Sung's actions, Jom died from an accident that wasn't related to Shin. We can also point that Louis got bullied by the rest of the students, but in Shin's time, Jom just loose his title of leader of the Udon Phithak campus. That's the first difference between Shin and Sung. I also think that Sung was more prouder than Shin when he was the leader.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel this proud makes him closer to Saint from the past. When Saint was younger, he was the leader of his own gang and he was proudly nicknamed “Tsunami” because when he was going after someone, no one could beat him. His use of violence could be compared to the one Sung used in the past. They were both leader of their own “gang” and they both rely a lot on their strength to establish themselves. They both used too much of their violence and in the end they both felt bad because of the terrible consequence it had: Sung witness the suicide of Louis and understood that he went too far, while Saint fought his best friend, injured him and lost his friendship. They both lives in the present with the guilt of what they've done. Sung decided to become a teacher and probably help students to avoid having the same fate as Louis. As for Saint, he wants to be what Shin wants. Saint will only heal if Shin is also healing. His remorse, just like Sung, are true and they are both willing to work on whatever they need to, to be able to heal from this and maybe earn the needed forgiveness. I also feel Sung should have been more open with Saint when he tried to convince him to get back to school. That would have been a great time to connect to him. I don't know exactly, but I feel it was a missed opportunity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The curse of Siamwit School is rooted in violence, guilt and death (real and figurative). To be able to break from this curse, the healing journey won’t be easy, but it will be interesting to watch.

okay i tracked down the forum post i won eyne from and apparently my memory cant be trusted and i won both of them from the same raffle. they came as a set. (i could have sworn i bought rhys as fodder but what do i know) so that explains how they ended up in the same clan. but i guess the mystery now is how the hell did i forget they were siblings?? and how do they look so different? i have ZERO memory of scattering/breed changing them, but this was nine years ago so.
ANYWAY the long lost siblings angle is too dramatic not to use so im going with that instead of the real story which is i Fucking Forgot. fuck it we ball

hi! what are your opinions on the td23/24 canon couples?
~Remy
THANK YOU FOR ASKING. Imma be rating this on a scale of 1-10 btw
so, I hated ripaxel at first, but then I became delusional and said that they didn’t just make out the entire time and realized that their dynamic is actually kinda nice, soooo all in all 5.7/10
Now for… priyaleb- okay, so at first I loved their dynamic, and I loved Priya, but because of how the canon treated them, I began to realize how… toxic it became? Like, in the finale Caleb is has a light panic multiple times over how Priya feels, like when he saves Julia from falling to her death, he says “Oh- Just don’t tell Priya!” He seems panicked and dare I say… scared? Idk seems unhealthy I like Caleb without Priya and I like Priya without caleb 2/10
now rajbow was technically last season but idk if your talking about s1 or 2, so I’m gonna include this one anyway. I LOVED this ship in s1 it was perfectly written and stuff, just off of s1, 10/10 but, because of how they wrote raj this season(Istg that’s not my boy) 8/10, that’s all I have to say despite this being my favorite (canon) ship.
Also, I know you probably meant just the canon ships but just for fun I’m gonna talk about my otp for this series because I love it.
MKULIA!! they are my favorite ship, they are such enemies to lovers and I love them and they’re just generally the best 10/10 would recommend (I rlly hope they become canon next season. Like AAAAAA)

I forget sometimes you guys have not watched half the shows I have,
you guys would EXPLODE if I tried to explain mort lore.
(from yk dream works's Madagascar?? yeah that guy? little brown lemur? yeah fucked up, almost completely crazed fever dream lore.)
anyway I was thinking about the cinematic parallels with chef and Chris from total drama and how it's literally the same fucking thing that happens in Hannibal mostly.
murderous eccentric loved by many: Chris
manipulates, doesn't care how many he kills because it's exciting: Chris
mutilates and disfigures people for his own enjoyment: Chris
wealthy: Chris
gets sent to jail because he's a fucking murder: Chris
pulls a good guy and turns him evil and is gay for him: Chris
I can go on and on, uh you may be saying
"what the fuck?? that happens in this show??? what's it even rated??"
it's PG, guys.. it's a kids show. total drama is surprisingly dark, it's awesome I suggest it if you like weird shows that are a spoof of survivor.
but my god is the show literally just Chris being fucking murderous and gay for chef the entire time.
Tumblr media
THIS MAN HAS KILLED 78 PEOPLE HE CANNONICALLY WENT TO PRISON FOR IT. CHEF LITERALLY GOT HIM OUT.
(mostly it was the show getting another season, idk how they got him out of jail. 100% it was chef tho)
like they are full on murder husbands, this show is so chaotic and cringe but mostly just "CHRIS WTF" it's fucking great.
literally inlove gay murder husbands, it's fucking crazy how similar it parallels Hannibal (2013) while being older than it.
I love this show it's awesome.

total drama spoilers under cut:
losing mk, then damien, then RAJ back to back to back was THEE most painful and most surprising thing i have ever watched when it comes to this show. i don't think i've ever been this dissatisfied with a season's overall elimination order before. it's the absolute worst

TD S2 Episode 7 (SPOILERS REVIEW)
First of all, OWEN IS BACK! And wow! He hasn’t age!
Yes, how cute the pair are, but it was getting too gross for me to see every moment of Axel and Ripper. I get it that it supposed to mean that they’re double eliminated. But u don’t have to shove it down to our throat. And in the elimination, I hate how Axel responded him as on well it was fun 🤷🏻‍♀️ “see ya around, maybe” when Ripper is sad she leaving. Does it mean she breaking up with him?! 😢😭 💔She could have tell him to stay strong and win for together. The writers could have wrote Ripper also quitting and Axel accepted it! If there a next season, they should both agree to focus on challenges as Emma & Noah. Hopefully in the finale episode, they are still together Pls! Don’t end this relationship! ☹️ There already cute couple I like that ending breaking up! Well, she did said when couple fight, “They make up”.

au where pro hero katsuki and reader meet one night at a bar and hit it off (SEX) and start casually seeing each other. but the catch is that reader runs a popular pro-hero blog (opinion blog but borders on gossip) under a screen name and keeps their real identity secret. katsuki lets it slip one night that he just so happens to know the blog... and hate it.

opinions on sugar
hehe i loveeee her
probably the funniest part of Pahkitew for me, along with Max's EVILLLL schemes! She'll just say the most out of pocket weird shit and then move on it's great. She's super mischeavious and is just a menace all season. Amazing.
Her perspective is also so so interesting. Since she was raised in pageants she treats TD like one and it informs her relationships with most of the other contestants - her throaway line about Topher being a suck-up, being willing to bend the rules to get by and driving a wedge between her and Sky, hell her entire dynamic and relationship with Ella's driven by that!
She thinks Ella's full of shit and just manipulating people but no that's just how Ella is! But how would Sugar know? This is a competition. Why be nice and innocent and play by the rules if you're not just gonna use that goodwill to backstab your opponents into the dirt afterwards? It's kind of tragic they never did hit it off, Ella was really desperate to befriend Sugar and it just. Didn't work out. Sad.
Also i love how she's impressed by Leonard and finds Max incredibly endearing, it's awesome. She in awe of their tism fr
I didn't wanna end this post on a bad note, but i feel the need to mention that im a little uncomfortable with what she was based on. At least when other TD characters were based on things that weren't tropes they were fictional characters (you cannot tell me Harold and Heather weren't based on Napoleon Dynamite and Heathers/Mean Girls respectivaly, and MK's based on a character Aquafina played to my knowledge) or at least adult celebrities (i belive Anne Maria is one such case)
but. Sugar's based on Honey Boo Boo. Who was like 8 years old in 2014? And the show treats Sugar super awfully. It constantly treats her as unattractive, annoying, gross and untalented, and while i don't think making a character gross on it's own is a bad thing, coupling it with the previously mentionned traits and the fact she's fat... Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It really feels like they're using this fictional teenage girl to mock a literal child. She deserved better from the show, but it's Total Drama. It was never gonna happen.

Concept for a review series: I do reviews of Total Drama Island episodes. BUT. but. At the end of each review, I list mistakes each prominent character made and have a poll to see who YOU think should've been voted off that episode. Then we can go back and compare at the end of the seasons
