Muta: do you know how Tokuma’s been doing? I haven’t been able to visit much
Toru, nonchalantly: I haven’t really gotten to check, the Hyuuga clan’s going through a a little rough patch and we’ve been told to stand by in case they start a civil war between each other

I'm absolutely blind, or tumblr is acting up again, but I've been tagged *thrice* by the lovely @on-a-lucky-tide @tumbleweedtech and @round--robin. 10 fandom, 10 characters
The Witcher - Erland of Larvik (this was a toughie, but I ended up choosing my husband, bc I imprinted hard)
Marvel - Tony Stark (my first fandom fave, though my love is now a slow simmering flame on the gas stove)
Yakuza - Goro Majima (from games 0-6) and Zhao Tianyou (from 7). No I'm not cheating, shhh. They have the same frequency but with entirely different flavouring
Judgment - Higashi Toru (his streak of loyalty sucked me in, despite the game putting in so much effort to make his tsundere ass look incompetent. he's not, aight?)
Hollow Knight - to no one's surprise, Quirrel (Blue Lake didn't happen, he now owns a little house in the City of Tears, and most importantly, he's alive)
Naruto - i'm once again nominating two, bc do y'all know how big the cast is??? anyway, beautiful bugboi Shino Aburame (another overlooked character, I have a type) and ratbastard Tobirama Senju take the lead
Overwatch - Hanzo Shimada (i still tear up at the Dragons cinematic; if only Blizzard cared about its characters rip)
The Quarry - a recent fandom I've been following. another popular character is queued up here: Dylan Lenivy (a queer done well)
House of Ashes - from the same developers, this is an older title. Salim Othman came in with his adorable dilf energy and i swooned
Critical Role - Caleb Widogast from c2, and Orym from c3
Not tagging anyone, bc I'm shit at keeping up who was summoned already, so *shrugs* pulling an open invitation here once again
#tag game#timtim talks to lovely people#i could have gone with more but exercised control#looking through this list can y'all tell i'm not a tv/series person?

AU: Aburame-Uchiha Bastard
Inspired by a comment made by Firefly_Aki on AO3, specifically Sea Dreams (this is an AU of the series this book is part of and can be found here; this fic itself will be shortly out on AO3 as well).
Warning: Cockroaches, bastard children, war, rumours, whispers. You must continue. There is no other option now.
Writing below the line
There are whispers, rumours, of a bastard child belonging to Konoha, (it is not surprising that there is a child fighting for Konoha, because all the villages have children fighting for them; child soldiers thrown out to the front lines to win or to die and they will fulfil their role regardless). But these whispers and rumours are the kind that talk of something dangerous, of something so profoundly horrifying that even ninjas consider avoiding such things.
An Aburame-Uchiha, the rumours say. A child of the deadliest kind, the whispers say. Whilst there are similarities between the two, there is one thing both the rumours and whispers agree on: the child will never be where you think, and when you attack it will collapse and become millions of insects and they will swallow you without mercy and a child will stare you down, (and you will know then that you should never have gone for this easy target, this child of Konoha; perhaps you never should have gone to war at all).
There will be notes, in the future, in history books about this child of Konoha, about this bastard of two clans that never should have formed it. One clan that made the world shudder at their touch, that changed the world with the Senju Clan, that can copy what you do and see what you will do before it happens—just with their eyes. And the other clan—one that is quiet and watchful and strange, one that is dangerous and deadly and horrifying and chakra-stealers.
There will be notes about this child. They will say that it helped scare the villages into ceding to Konoha. They will say that it was deadly on the battlefield and existed in multiple places in one. These books will be impersonal and objective and will be propaganda. They will lie and say that the bastard child was something strange and horrifying and awful. They will say it was an Aburame-Uchiha. They will say a lot of things, not all of them will be true, (but enough—enough will be true because that bastard child was something very scary and very horrifying and very, very deadly).
The things the books do not say—they matter. Because the books do not want to show this bastard child in any positive light. And so they will not talk about how the child was a half-blood Uchiha with an unknown father (the Uchiha Clan will call him a child of war or an accident, but always bastard, always awful, and then they will call him genius, call him Uchiha, but he will remember being called bastard and coward and being tossed to the street when his mother died; they claim him now but they didn't until he proved he was worth something—but he shouldn't have had to).
They will not talk about how he made himself a name in Konoha from the streets, that he came from the gutters but seemed noble, (he didn't look Uchiha as a young child and so no one knew otherwise and so no one thought he mattered and so he gathered the children around him and told them that they all mattered with blood stained teeth and bruised knuckles; and he moved through the years quickly because there was no hiding when you lived on the streets and those kids depended on him just as he depended on them).
They will not talk about how he took as many kids off of the streets as he could and found them places to live and survive and work, (the Uchiha clan might have claimed him as an Uchiha but he refused to return to them when they scorned his uprising and those he housed).
They will not talk about the way he offered mercy the moment he could, (the other villages do not wish to admit how many should have died from this bastard child, they will not admit to prisoners of war returning home and claiming that the bastard child had stuck his neck out for them).
And there are, of course, things that no one will ever know. There will be shadows that the bastard child doesn't let leave his soul, the scars he will refuse to rip open, (because he is a genius and he could be much, much more deadly—he gave enough to be proven as a genius, enough that Konoha would not demand more, but he could not give everything, not to these deaths, not to the war; he would not sacrifice the rest of his heart and bring death in the hundreds just because Konoha should be the place he called home).
And when the war ends people will wonder about the bastard child, about the Aburame-Uchiha who lived and killed and always, always survived. They will wonder. And it won't just be his enemies but also those he somehow managed to save during that awful war. They will wonder if Konoha executed him for what he did. They will wonder if he was sent on a mission and died on it. They will wonder if he retired.
Here is what Konoha will never admit to: they never saw the deadly cockroach resting in the corner, they never spotted the danger of what they were carefully growing, they never understood that they were ordering something and bringing it to ruin, they never understood what that bastard child was and what that bastard child could do. They never knew.
Here is what many people will never know (even those in Konoha): the bastard child that caused more deaths than he stopped, the bastard child that was hailed as a genius, the bastard child that was an Uchiha, that bastard child that helped end the war disappeared without a trace three months after the war ended, (and with it, so did the kids on the street and those who had once been on the street and those left hurting and aching due to the harsh words of their own clans who should be family). People will note the disappearances and assume that they have gone away. These people will never come back. They will never be found.
And that bastard child will grow to be an adult and will grow to be strong and finally do what he wants, (and he will use seals and they will not be used to kill hundreds like what might have happened if he hadn't kept the skill close to his heart).
(And, maybe, there will be orders that the Uchiha Clan be massacred but when it comes time to do it, the clan will have disappeared for the most part, stolen away by the very wind, and they will not be seen again.)
There are whispers, rumours, and they are not of a bastard child belonging to Konoha. There are whispers and rumours and they will talk about a peaceful village on an island off of the coast of the Land of Lightning. There are rumours and whispers that talk about people who look exactly like you think they should, but your eyes drops off of them. They will say there is no danger in this village. They will say it is peaceful. They will say it is normal. They will say it is friendly.
(They are right, but they are also wrong. This village is one of the most dangerous in the world, but they have had no reason to show it and so they won't. They have no ninjas. They just are.)
There are whispers and rumours of many things in the world. Most people don't believe them anymore.
A Brief AN:
I did no research for this nor did I check timelines or anything. For those wondering, I’m assuming the war is the third ninja war, meaning Toru is born earlier than we see in The Sea Never Dies. It explains the lack of Shisui and other well-known characters, at least. According to the brief comment I made when writing this eons ago, this Toru is not a reincarnated Uzushio ninja. So how does he know seals? Probably read a lot in the library and figured it out. I don’t know, but maybe you can figure something reasonable out.
Is Toru an Aburame here? Perhaps not, actually. He could just be using summons and that’s honestly quite likely. It’s just an assumption in the war, made by other forces, that the Konoha-nin who uses insects is an Aburame. Which makes sense, if you consider it from their perspective.
It was fun going over this and cleaning it up. I really liked the fact I use “it” as a pronoun initially for Toru, coming from that outside perspective and trying to dehumanise him as well, I think. The pronouns switch to he when the story starts being about Toru and not all the things that are heard about him. I think my favourite bit was the part where it’s like “the clan ... stolen away by the very wind”. I thought that was neat.

Toru: anyway, and then I got kidnapped and held for ransom by some lady; she said she didn’t pick me for any real reason other than that I was nearby and ‘less effort to handle’
Toru: I should probably train more..
Muta: you probably do
Torune: was she hired by any villages to kidnap people?
Toru: no, she’s a rogue defect, I think. I have a newspaper clipping with me that might say where she was from though. *pulls out a folded up paper from his pouch*
Muta, looking it over: it says she’s a cyberterrorist vigilante... three confirmed information leaks...
Torune, spotting a picture: ...
Muta: she’s looks pretty rugged, but kinda familiar.. hmm maybe she’s related to someone in Konoha? It says she’s from Kumo.
Toru: I don’t think so, but she is pretty strong
Torune: *banging head on the table* shit

Returning Home
He was allowed one night with his family before needing to return to the Hokage’s office to answer for everything within the past five years. Kaheno was tired; it had been a hectic few days, with having to deal with enemies, hunger, and secrets. Kenta, Toru and Mutechi’s team leader, had escorted the three back to the compound’s gates, but it didn’t lessen the anxieties of having to face his family again. Though gentle in nature, Kaheno was afraid of what his clan would think of his actions during the time period he was gone. In his head, he held himself in contempt; he knew he had a safe haven within the compound walls, and if he had went there instead of running away...
“Uhh, alright guys.. we’re here?” Kenta shuffled backwards, unsure of what’s to happen next for the trio.
“Thanks, Sensei,” Mutechi responded, appearing calm. “We’ll take it from here, you can go home.” The man sighed heavily from relief, waving his hand at them and walking away. As soon as Kenta was out of sight, Mutechi groaned and tugged at his hair.
“... What’s gonna happen now?” Toru asked meekly, shivering with anxiety. “I’m sure Lord Seventh had called Grandpa, if not Dad, a-and I’m... not sure how they’re gonna be when we go inside..?” Both boys looked at each other with concern, then turned to Kaheno.
Before anyone else could say another word, they heard the sound of a door sliding open. All heads turned to the building, where an elderly man stood. The boys gulped; it was the clan patriarch, Shibi.
“... Come inside, please.” The air felt stiff; none of the three could gauge at what the old man was feeling, but with his stern expression and calm demeanor, they felt a sense of disappointment from him. Kaheno’s legs wobbled as he headed up the steps of the house, feeling as if everything was happening at lightning speeds. Mutechi was already inside; Toru stopped at the door and looked back to his older cousin. He was reluctant to follow, as if his feet were tied down with boulders. His shoulders were flexed up, and he was sweating. Toru felt the smallest hint of guidance take control, and the boy gently held his hand out to the young adult.
“... I’m sure we’ll be okay..” Toru whispered. Kaheno nearly teared up, but blinked it away and took his cousin’s hand. It was warm, and the slight vibrations of the grasp gave him relief in that he wasn’t the only one who was nervous.
Once inside, they were greeted to a small group of clansmen seated around the room. Within the meeting was Shino, next clan head and father to Toru and Mutechi. Next to Shino was his own father, the current head Shibi, and to the right sat the other twin and their little sister Shila. Another notable member, Shin, sat farthest to the left; with him was his own daughter Tenshinhan and Pikito, Kaheno’s little sister. The young man didn’t make eye contact with Shin; being the older brother of his late father, Kaheno had a close relationship with the older man. He was well aware that his dissapearance had hurt his uncle the most, who treasured the only child of his deceased little brother, Muta.
Toru took a seat near the wall, close to the group but with some space to stretch out his legs should the meeting drag on. Kaheno kept his eyes low, slowly kneeling down across from his family. It had finally come to this, his return to the Aburame clan. Of all the mixtures of emotions and thoughts, the most prominent theme had finally made itself clear: shame. From running away that night, abandoning his baby sister in the midst of chaos, leaving behind his identity and living in anonymity in fear of being found by anyone.. the theft he committed to survive, the measures he took to get a hold of basic needs left him feeling heavy with burden. His paternal clan was pristine, unmatched, and highly respected in The Leaf; he knew what he had done would blemish that cleanliness. He didn’t feel as is he deserved to see them again.
“... Its been made clear to us that you’re to return to Lord Seventh the next morning..” Shibi began, his voice smooth and clear. Everyone was still, except for Toru, who felt the atmosphere though his skin and shook at the tense atmosphere. Kaheno held his breath.
“From the conversation I’ve had with the Hokage, there is a lot going against you. Though details weren’t released to us, what was made clear is that you may end up with a sentence, and your status as a shinobi is also up for debate.” Shibi’s words dropped heavy on Kaheno. He kept his head down, unable to look at his clan members. Tears began to well up in his eyes again.
“There is a lot we want to ask you, Kaheno. It’s because we want the truth,” Shino mentioned. “These past few years haven’t been good to us, and we know it hasn’t been for you as well.” The young man’s heart thumped, his hands sliding down to the floor. Greasy hair covered his face, but the tears stained the wooden floors. He felt as if he were choking.
“But-“ Shibi cleared his throat, looking directly at the man. “For now, we just want to welcome you home. We’ve missed you so much, Kaheno, and we are glad to get to see you again.” The others nodded, with small remarks of agreement in between.
“....Ah-,” Kaheno croaked, the words remaining lodged in his throat. The group watched, waiting for a response. “I... ah-i-“ He felt like he was gonna vomit. Just then, the man collapsed in a heap, barely resembling a bow. He sobbed, unable to find the words he wanted to say in the mess of himself.
“Please forgive me, everyone!” He finally managed to blurt out. “I never meant to hurt you guys and cause so much trouble for our clan! I never meant to leave my parents’ legacies in this turmoil I made..” He finally picked up his head, attempting to wipe away the continuous flow of shame.
“Uncle, please..” he turned to Shin. “I know I hurt you the most.. even if you don’t forgive me, I still want you to know that I love you, I love you and I’m always grateful for everything you’ve given me throughout my life, and that I don-“ Kaheno stopped talking, floating in a state of confusion and comfort as his uncle swooped him in for a hug. He remained stiff for a minute, before desperately clinging to Shin and sobbing like a child again. Shibi looked at the pair with bittersweetness. He looked at Kaheno; he was hardly recognizable from the young genin he was five years ago. He was tired. His cheeks were sunken and his skin was dull. He was dirty, with various scratches along his limbs and well-worn clothes draped around his slim figure.
But it was still Kaheno; Shibi recognized the gleam in the young man’s crimson irises, the same little twinkle that he’s had since the day he was born. He has his mother’s sun-kissed locks, though the luster was hidden among the dirt. Most importantly, he saw Muta in Kaheno: he saw it back then, and he still sees it now. Though Muta was long gone before the boy could speak, his love for Kaheno had remained with the child and grew as time passed by. It was as if the father’s spirit watched over the kid, never breaking his promise to keep his son safe.
Shin scrunched his nose, patting his nephew on the back before putting distance between them by grasping Kaheno’s shoulders. The usually quiet and reserved man murmered one word in his deep and soft voice.
“Bath..”
Shibi stood up, Shino keeping him steady unnecessarily. “Let’s get you cleaned up and fed. Shin has a bed for you at his home; I’m sure he had a spare change of clothes that’ll fit you, too.” Kaheno nodded, feeling warmth enter his heart for the first time in a while.

Thoughts
Toru looks around and he wonders if his comrades have other ambitions besides their shinobi careers. He wants to travel to other countries and learn about their peoples. He wants to see the world and be apart of it. But also, he wants to see the island his mother's nation left behind.

Lost Sons of ROOT
It was an isolated region they happened to stumble upon, with a small shack on the far right. Through the dark, the group could see flickering of light in between the cracks in the walls. The atmosphere was.. cold, in comparison to the rest of the clan grounds. It felt empty. "Who's that?" Toru asked, shuffling towards the two men. "I.." Muta looked at Torune. No response. "We don't know..." Toru looked down, then back to the house. He couldn't help but be drawn to the place, even if he felt threatened by what's around him. A lonely soul was in there, and he wanted to know why. It hurt to feel this way, to know that someone wanted to keep away from the world for eternity. True damnation, as his uncles put it. "I'm going to see who's there." Toru turned to see Torune pass by, looking toward the house. Muta expressed worry, grabbing Toru's arm and hastily catching up. "We don't know what this guy's like, Torune," Muta urged, not wanting to start another conflict. "There's a reason why they're here, willingly might I add." Torune said nothing, keeping his pace. He finally stopped short of the steps, looking up at the house. The light was gone. Toru wiggled out of his uncle's hold, looking around the place. It was clean, but also deteriorating. The floorboards were rotting, and some of the metal fixtures were rusting over. He stepped back, looking around to the side of the house. Meanwhile, Torune finally broke his trance and began toward the door, to which Muta grabbed his arm. "We really shouldn't.. let's go before-" "I'm not leaving." Torune brushed Muta's hand off, continuing towards the door. 'Fuck..' Muta thought as he prepared for any kind of negative altercation to follow. He kept his hands inside his pockets, one of which was holding a kunai. Toru continued along the side of the house, not being noticed by his uncles. He felt an energy nearby, and as he neared the back corner of the house it became more intense. Suddenly, he froze. He felt a person's presence. "...Uh, hi?" He whimpered, not moving to face the individual. No response. "Hello?" He trembled, not knowing what to make of this feeling. Slowly, he turned the corner of the house to see... a child? No, it was a boy closer to his age. He sat in the corner, hooded with a cloak. Toru couldn't see his face. Maybe it was the fact that he was around the same age, but Toru relaxed a bit after spotting the kid. "Toru!" Muta and Torune called out, running to see him standing with another kid. The men were silent, watching to see what would happen. Torune fixed his eyes on the cloaked boy, feeling as if they were connected in some way. The kid looked at the men, then turned back to Toru. "Why are you here by yourself?" Toru asked, tilting his head. The boy shrugged. "Are you an Aburame?" He nodded. "What's your name?" The kid opened his mouth for a second, then closed it again. A strange sound came from him, like the humming of insects as different paces. "Yoji." Toru was in awe at this ability. Suddenly, Torune nudged him aside, clearly intrigued by this child. Toru returned to Muta's side, looking at each other in confusion. "Who was your master?" The two were shocked at Torune's question. What made him ask that to Yoji? A kid unknown to anyone up until now? Was there something Torune knew about him? Though it wouldn't be surprising anymore, it felt uncomfortable to know that Torune held some dark facts within his mind. They thought that the boy wouldn't answer Torune's question, but then that buzzing sound returned. "Danzo." Torune nodded. "I know who you are."
