A big shoutout to everyone else who has baked the Nevarran Hazelnut Torte before me because they made me panic less when I reached the "why is this just a big ole lump" stage. 🖤

So, I have now made the Nevarran Hazlenut Torte from DA: Veilguard and I can confirm that a) it will definitely pair well with coffee and b) that cake is a labour of LOVE.

Set aside the fact that you need to separate eight - yes, eight - eggs and think for a minute about how much your wrist and shoulders will hurt once you’ve creamed eight yolks into sugar until pale and whisked eight egg whites into stiff peaks BY HAND. I used an electric whisk and both stages took a good 10 minutes each.

And that’s before you grind a small mountain of hazelnuts in, presumably, a pestle and mortar.

Honestly, the care and attention that would have to go into making this cake without recourse to electric kitchen aids really does make this an A-grade romantic gesture and I think that a beautiful level of detail.

Seeing posts saying that insurance companies are inherently bad and adversarial, and I need to point out that insurance companies telling organizations and companies that they’re doing something stupid and at risk of hurting people or the environment and they need to stop or the insurance company will either charge them a lot of money or even stop covering them at all is often the only reason why any precautions are taken.

Torts are where the steel is legally on these types of things, but the insurance companies are how the implications of tort law is communicated.

Like, the church I grew up in only took any precautions against children being molested on site after the insurance company insisted. It’s a bit hard for me to see insurance collectively as all bad all the time after seeing that, when I can point on the doll to where I wasn’t harmed because of insurance.
