HEY guess who's being completely normal about episode 7 :)
anyway it sure ain't me, so I made myself a baby Malleus! I used the single-headed version of Choly Knight's hydra pattern (link will be in replies ↓↓↓) as a base, and just messed with some of the pieces to make him more Mall-y. including sewing all those little claw pieces, then pinning them on and realizing I actually liked him better without them...oh well. to heck with accuracy, I want stubby little dragon legs!
unfortunately, he doesn't photograph very well, especially his forehead scales (they're there! I promise!) (they're made of glitter HTV so they are actually SPARKLY in real life, yet apparently they come out completely invisible in photos, woe). but he is super cuddly and soft so I'm happy with him! just as in canon, he is a product of LOVE. :>

me: I've made many garments for myself! cutting and fitting and stitching singlehandedly!
a potential employer: can you finish these seams by machine?
me: I have never sewed anything ever in mine entire Life

Corduroy coat, recently completed, in better lighting. Pattern is a modified Merchant & Mills "Foreman". Outer fabric is deadstock, lining is hand-dyed.

Think I'm gonna embroider over the neck opening and maybe over some of the topstitching to hide mistakes lol but I've finally finished the shirt I can toil in

Bought a booksleeve at barnes and nobles this weekend for my freewrite- they only had lile two designs and the size was BARELY enough to fit it so I had to fight with the zipper to get it in. Got into the parking lot and thought "I could've probably just made one" and decided that would be the incentive to finally put my sewing machine to use in 2024

So I'm working on binding a quilt, and I was wondering what other quilters prefer in terms of method: binding strips or folding over one side onto the other (usually backing to front)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also if you're not a quilter do you have a preference?
If you prefer one, why? (Like how it looks, saves on material, trimming multiple layers is annoying, etc etc)

Cloaksforall Sewalong Step 3 - Sewing the hood
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hood opening
We start with making the hood opening look nice.
Take the two hood pieces, and on each fold the long opening edge down twice so that the fold is on the inside (wrong side of the fabric), pin and sew. If your fabric is very thick, you may have to bind it with bias band instead. (That's what I'm going to do on my new cloak, so explanation will be there.
Joining the hood pieces
Tumblr media
Lay the two pieces of the hood on top of each other, matching the sewn opening edges. Pin the top and back together about a cm from the edge, leaving the opening and the bottom free.
Tumblr media
Sew along the purple dotted line, making sure to go back and forth a few stitches at the start and end.
Now it's time to press your seam to make it look nicer. Heat up your iron, making sure to pick the low heat synthetic option if you're not sure what fibre your fabric is (test the iron on a fabric scrap!), and put the iron on the stitches for a few seconds before moving on to the next patch of stitches.
The levelled up approach is to also press your seam open. This looks like this:
Tumblr media
You can use the rounded end of your ironing board to get easier access to the seam.
Finish the seam of what you have just sewn by sewing over the edge with a zigzag stitch. (Generally the second stitch option on machines).
That's enough for now, tomorrow we'll sew the hood to the cloak.

Look at this skirt I made
Tumblr media
It’s kind of blurry but look at this one with proper undergarments and a hastily constructed waistcoat thing (wanted to wear this outfit on the train but the skirt looked too fancy for the shirt so I threw together this and it solved the problem beautifully)
Tumblr media
Ignore dirty mirror but doesn’t this outfit slay???
All it need is a decorative belt I think. And better fitting in the hips but that’s just because I fluctuate weight a lot and I gained between the time I cut out the pattern and the time I actually made it.

Ahahaha, I feel like a mad scientist - IT WORKED!
Tumblr media
You can barely see the seams bc this linen presses so nicely, but my unnecessarly complicated binding worked, I'm so pleased
