In my own, probably delusional, world, Eric Matthews is in fact a pretty smart and on the whole emotionally mature guy who is sometimes just a bit clueless and neurodivergant. HOWEVER due to a lifetime of being told he's stupid by every single person in his life except Feeny, he has greatly internalised this and has pretty low self esteem. His relationship with dating doesn't help matters, or is maybe a symptom that feeds into it in a loop.

I headcanon that he has a complex relationship with food during highschool years (that one episode where Jason has him listen to a VERY 90s-00s Food Bad tape, a comment from the actor saying he was really skinny in the early seasons, and the episode in season 7when he's binge eating and goes on a diet with topenga.)

He mostly grows out of it by the end of his gap year and starting college (moving in with Jack probably helps, I feel like he's a good cook and would force Eric and Shawn to eat), but then more and more subscribes to the mindset of 'it's easier to not try so no one expects anything from me'. This translates into being more and more 'stupid' and the more he acts that way the more people call him that the more he starts to believe it.

The only thing he does put effort into his relationships with his siblings and friends--he cares too much about people to let his relationships and the feelings of those around him at risk. Which also means everytime he sees a kid who needs more support he will do anything in his power to help.

Basically I love Eric and he deserves better and he's a smart lad who can do so much and he should be a weather reporter and father.

one insane detail that i really enjoyed is the fact that like corey cheat on topenga and the front page of the school paper is an article saying they broke up and topenga has like. reporters following her taking pics of her and asking her to comment on it like. insanee im so obsessed with it. is tht smth tht like makes more sense or ig has more context if uv seen the show or is it just like. an entirely random thing like r corey and topenga like a celeb couple to everyone at this school i need to know

This is How to Disappear

I'd love to throw my phone in the Pacific Ocean down in Malibu, I'd dye my hair blonde and I'd get a BMW 850 csi. I'd live deep in Topenga, tucked away on a dirt road without a street name.

I'd start painting again on gesso'ed bristle board. I cut the wildflowers in the hills behind my house and stuff every vase I have. I lay skin hot in the sand on a Tuesday at 3pm.

I never changed my name legally but no one in my neighborhood knows what it is. I buy up the old art books from the thrift stores and took up horse back riding again.

I fly out every other month to somewhere new and I stayed in touch only with my parents and best friend. I still text my old lover and he has no idea who or where I am but we reminisce on the life we used to live.

Maybe in a year or so I would vanish from this life as well, I'd move to Paris and take up art history. My hair is black and cut to my shoulders and my Parisian flat looks over the river. I am an art critic and I sit in cafes, musing in a journal about the couple two seats over.

Maybe I keep changing the pace, narrative, direction and perspective of my life. Maybe this is How to Disappear

I feel like the Boy Meets World creators wanted to do an arc exploring the effects of divorce and responses to that but obviously breaking up Amy and Alan is out of the question and they're like the only consistent parents in the show.

So they broke up Cory and Topenga and focused on Shawn's response. Cos I feel like there's more episodes exploring how he's dealing than exploring how Cory and Topenga are coping and I don't hate it.

Okay, to be fair I've never seen an episode of Boy Meets World, but in that one gif set where Cory is practicing confessing his feeling for Topenga, who's the blond jock with the flowers, his reaction to seeing them made me think that he was planning on asking one of them out, am I right or is that just my queer mind trying to project
