#top secret agent catching cannibals meetings

“Well.” The man smiles. “Always nice to meet the meat.” He has a nice smile, Martin thinks, like an idiot. Mostly because he's about to be eaten alive by his date, partially because he went on a date with a cannibal and entirely because he can't remember a single Flesh statement in this immediate moment to save his life.
Which he might want to figure out how to do, and soon. For all of the good Beholding does for him, to him really, he's a little bitter he doesn't work for a power that can defend itself at all.
Well, Elias can defend himself, but something tells him making the nice man, Jon, his name was Jon, cry wouldn't make the day better. Actually, Martin's pretty sure that if Jon had anything to cry about, hearing it would make him gag. “Do you do this sort of thing often?” Martin asked, at the bar where they met a few hours ago. “Barely at all.” Jon had said. “Not really into your sort.” “My sort?” Archivists, he meant. It clicks for Martin now, now that Jon drags a flaying knife over a piece of leather slowly. “You're not gay?” “Not what I mean,” Jon told him and ordered Martin a drink Martin didn't really want. Yeah, obviously that's not what he meant. Jon plies him with drinks, and Martin just goes along with it, because Jon is out of his league and he hasn't touched someone or even talked to someone that wasn't associated with the Institute in years. They stumble- no- Martin stumbles back to his apartment, Jon walks with a steady hand on the back of Martin's neck with a pleasant smile. Elias is going to send someone, right? Daisy maybe? Some other secret sniper agent, or whatever it was that she did, to save him from getting eaten, right? Right? The rope on his wrists hurts, chafing and rubbing the skin raw. He could try yelling, but he doubts it's going to do him a lot of good. Think, Martin, think about what hurts the Flesh. Something has to hurt the Flesh. Stop staring that Jon's long fingers and think, for five seconds. He feels sluggish from the alcohol. He tugs on his ropes, and it goes all of nowhere. Tim was right, his bloody mother was right, he should have been working out for ages. “Do you-” Martin swallows around nothing and Jon stops sharping the knife, head twisting too smoothly to be human. “Do you kidnap a lot of men?” “We're in your home.” He says dully. “I restrained you.” “Right.” “No.” It takes Martin a second to realize what he's answering too. “Oh.” “Don't get illusions of grandeur,” Jon tells him, and again, Martin is left with listening to the knife scrape. “I've shown restraint. A lot of restraint.” Jon lifts the knife up and presses it against his finger. Martin watches it sink into the skin there and for nothing to come out. “W-When was the last time you ate?” He whispers. “What year is it?” Jon clearly isn't joking, so Martin tells him, and Jon's eyes close. “Six. Six years ago.” “Ah.” “Very restrained.” “Very,” Martin says. “Not to- not to diminish your ah- your achievements. But if you do, the Eye will-” “The only people scared of the Eye are idiots. Idiots and children.” “Elias has killed people before.” “So have I.” Martin believes him. “I imagine the process won't take too long, even if you're larger than I am.” “Right, very restrained.” He nods, and Jon nods with him. “I'm glad you're so understanding. I get migraines when people yell. Very annoying.” There's something about the tiny smile that graces Jon's features that turns Martin's stomach. He was watching his mouth earlier too, in the bar, and now he gets it, dim lighting aside. His mouth is overflowing with teeth- more then the normal row, more than even sharks seem to have. Teeth as far back as Martin can see. “Are you going to kill me-” Jon huffs a laugh. “I mean, eventually, your heart will give out, either shock or blood loss. But I'm planning on getting into as much of this.” Jon pats his leg, squeezes down on the muscle and fat there. Martin winces. “As I can while you're still kicking.” “So it's going to hurt-” He swallows again. “Meat always tastes better when it's scared. At least to me. It gets your muscles tense. Makes the meat bitter.” Makes Martin bitter, he means. “Where are you going to start?” “Mm. I'm blinded with opportunity.” He lifts the knife to his lips, just a little curved, curved enough to catch on his lower lip and show Martin more of the maw and all of the hidden white inside of it. All the way back to his throat. “Maybe start here.” Jon drags a finger along Martin's torso, a Y-section, he realizes. “Oh.” His touch is feather light and makes Martin blush. If there was ever a worse time then now for that, Martin couldn't even begin to fathom it. “Break the skin, crack the ribs open to accommodate, stuff my face with lungs. Or maybe pick something fattier- turn the meat on its side and get at it's back. Or thighs. Thighs are always nice.” “I'm right here.” “Of course you are.” He gets on top of him, straddles him, and for a few microseconds, Martin lets himself imagine a normal human named Jon who was still out of his league straddle his lap and kiss him. Grind down on his hips. Touch his face lovingly. The cold metal of the knife snaps him back to reality. “Just do it.” He mumbles, trying to defiant and probably failing. Definitely failing. He's awake for more of it then he thought he would be. Jon ends up deciding on emptying his chest cavity first. He whispers a prayer under his breath. Martin watches through tear-filled eyes as Jon cracks one of his ribs and sucks the marrow out of it. At least he looks like he's enjoying it. When he's done with the bone, he presses his fingers where he held it to his lips, and Martin watches as the bone curls like burning paper until it's something like a flower- or a parody of one. Curled petals and a thin stem made out of his rib. Jon tucks it behind Martin's ear. It feels warm. Wet.

✧ — CANON .
CW: MURDER, BODY HORROR, GORE, CANNIBALISM.
Much of Agent Three’s history is a mystery. This is no accident, for if the wider populous knew what their protector had done in reality, the extent of the consequences would be hard to predict.
It is true that such an end was never the intention of anyone involved. Perhaps such a campaign had never had the most altruistic of intentions, but the little Inkling girl, fresh into the city, had never meant for anything less than to help. It was like the stories her brother used to tell her, after all, or the things her mother would preach --- do a grand thing, become a hero; save the people, do all the good one can.
Palms trained to never touch a gun clung to it regardless, desperate for recognition on her own terms.
But fate dealt cards she couldn’t change, and still refused to give her her way --- her legend was reduced to the words of just one storyteller, and no one cared to find out how the Great Zapfish had returned. And still, he had never told her the final piece --- how she had bred conflict, not soothed it. How the respawn pads that had stung for her had never so much as existed for her opponents, and how with each miniature explosion, their spirits dissipated into the holographic sky.
She had killed them. No more, no less --- she had killed them, and her payment was to accept obscurity. She had saved no one, and she had fallen too far to get back up again.
The girl who had walked across the clouds was now terrified to fall.
With hands wrapped around her throat and outrage at her helm, something in her snapped. If she was a killer, then a killer she’d remain --- and all else be damned, she swore a promise. She had lost everything, and all because of them --- she would take everything in turn, and rend their chests like they had hers.
An eye for an eye, and a life for a life. Though the scales were still tipped in her favor, she’d turn a blind eye to the truth and call herself justice. She’d become destruction in human form, her bottled-up rage bubbling over, and call herself hurricane.
And so Soda Sturmaz, Agent Three, began her rule.
Victims continued to meet swift ends --- she found paths into the Octarians’ cameras, loudspeakers, lights and control panels until none within the battle-rigged domes could escape her reach. Once the campaign concluded, she was left unmonitored; no one assumed she in her right mind would want to go back to such a hellhole, and so no agent kept track of her actions. Panic continued to blossom in the ranks as she carried out her vengeance, mixing music from their screams. Months passed, weeks and weeks stacked on top of one another, until something about it . . . began to ring hollow.
Addictions require constant feeding, and obsession had seen her budget long since dwindle. This time, the dull blade of a kitchen knife would instead find its path to an innocent mechanic’s throat. With dark tentas and a pretty, sculpted face, she took to him like moth to flame, and no water was about to quench the fire building in her gut.
An apt word indeed: his spilled out across the cold metal floor, hers wrenched inside-out with hunger and desire. Such a slow rupturing had left residue behind --- a slow-dissolving membrane, clumps of half-solid vital ink that had once comprised organs, and a thicker coat of ink than if it’d just been overridden. At sixteen, she was starving, though for what she couldn’t name. At sixteen, she was desperate --- she had to get her hands on more.
It is the worst kind of sin, according to her mother, but she insists on calling it research. To her, there is no line between dissection and buffet, much less pain and pleasure. Palms trained to never hurt a soul plunge themselves into chest cavities and come out stained and dripping.
Her kills do not come unannounced --- gleeful shouts of triumph resound in the hollow domes; radio override is a favorite of hers. There is a pattern to her victims --- dark ink, cool-toned, whatever she dubbed pretty. It is possible to track her, to predict her, but not to catch her --- she vanishes as though something supernatural, leaving behind mounds of things that no longer looked human and a signature carved into the floor.
An ‘A’ and a ‘3’ entwined, near identical to the signature of an innocent girl above --- one with a smile that pulled a little too hard at the edges, a girl whose schedule never stayed stagnant, a girl with the same vociferous and violent enthusiasm as the killer downstairs.
Still, just knowing her name did not kill her; her reign plunged into the civilian domes, and then the deep seas. Where she should have drowned at Tartar’s hand, she bargained with him, and helped him drag thousands more to their deaths.
Octarians had a long record of vanishing. Agent Three’s initial arrival seemed to provide reason for this, despite a lack of precedence. It was at this point, however, that the rate of disappearances seemed to triple, and the race that had manufactured itself to remain alive found its factories faltering.
Stressors continue to pile onto both sides, but it is a chance shot from an Octosniper and Agent Three’s own hubris that pulls the final straw. For the first time, it is her own ink that drips off her face, and for the first time, it is she who runs.
It is here that the public’s knowledge of Agent Three begins.
The Octarians are wary, and do not dare assume the threat has vanished --- not when she has a hundred times before --- but her presence has vanished in the domes. Not a soul hears from her, above or below, until an unauthorized broadcast in the Square crackles to life, and the rest is as good as history.
Agent Three is a triumphant figure: one which promotes justice, truth, and valor. She represents the good of the Inkling people and protects them from harm. As far as her marketing is concerned, she is a hero --- but Inklings are gullible, and their leaders self-righteous, and no one ever cares to find out how.
Her signature plastered across Cuttlegear’s works is a painful reminder for most Octarians. Though she never fulfilled her promise, it is a permanent scar in the two race’s histories, and a well-guarded secret that she and her victims alone know the true extent of --- there is no avenging the damage that she’s done.
She is no justice; she is all lie and broken cowardice. If it is an eye for an eye, and a life for a life, she is far too aware there is no breaking even for the worst that she’s done.

Finding Free Kindle Books That Rock
There are so many free books on Amazon! And I’m hoping I can help you find your next great read from one of these frugal finds.
When I stumbled upon Introductions (The Ghost Bird #1) by C.L. Stone free for Kindle, the plot sounded so interesting. Set in this world of the The Academy, Sang Sorenson meets this amazing group of Academy guys that help her see she is worth so much more than how her family is making her feel with their abuses. Gorgeous wonderful guys and this really strong caring girl who seems to weave into their group so seamlessly as they try to solve the problems at their high school. It completely sucked me in!
Here I am, after reading all 12 Ghost Bird books and all of her second Academy series, Scarab Beetle series (the first book is also free) as well, I can't help but BEG for more from the author on Twitter. Better Together: 10 Unlikely Horror Duos
When it comes to horror and all the subgenres within it, unlikely situations are ironically expected to occur. Most of the time we’re given characters that are blatantly different for the sake of representing opposites: good and bad, funny and serious, logical and insane. Audiences don’t anticipate these representations to get along, let alone band together to make it to the end. When it comes to the following list of films, no matter how crazy the situation these characters find themselves in, the biggest shock is who winds up teaming up with who.
There really is nothing sweeter than two unlikely characters finding each other in the face of menace and evil. Sometimes those characters are the faces of menace and evil, but that still counts. From catfights and bromances to villainous allies, nothing says ‘I love you’ quite like ‘I hate you’ first. Here’s the Top 10 Unlikely Horror Duos:
10. Ellen Ripley and Jones the Cat in Alien
In space no one can hear you scream, except the feral starship cat. After a terrifying unknown alien being destroys all of her fellow crew members, Ripley finds solace in the Ginger Tom cat, Jones. She’s not much of a cat person at first, but when you’re left alone in space with a big, slimy, lethal monster of an alien and the harmless feline, you’re gonna choose the cat to keep you company.
9. Charley Brewster and Peter Vincent in Fright Night
An adolescent boy-who-cried-wolf and a washed-up, geriatric late night star don’t exactly scream ‘power couple’, however Charley and Peter are able to bond over their knowledge of one thing: the realm of horror. The two reluctantly pair up to stop the evil vampire, Jerry, who’s just moved into Charley’s quaint suburban neighborhood. They’re both misunderstood, underestimated men on opposite sides of the age spectrum, but in the end Vincent’s wisdom, Charley’s bravery, and their combined courage puts Jerry to sleep for good
8. Madeline Ashton and Helen Sharp in Death Becomes Her
It’s no secret that women tend to view one another as enemies, especially when it comes to a man. Madeline and Helen are two women obsessed with two things: eternal beauty and Ernest. These leading ladies will stop at nothing to declare themselves as the only woman in Ernest’s life, even if that literally means physically destroying one another in the process. However, when they realize who the real enemy is (hint, it’s always the adulterer) and join beautiful, flawless girl power forces they are able to serve up a lethal dose of justice. Madeline and Helen’s relationship proves that two heads are better than one and women can coexist is peaceful harmony happily ever after… forever.
7. Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers in Scream
No one really likes exploitative, nosy, meddlesome news reporters, especially Sidney. However, we see her relationship with the woman broadcasting her mother’s dirty laundry, Gale Weathers, Top Story and author of the Woodsboro Murders, go from punches (sorry, Gale, people don’t forget) to final female survivor stardom. The unlikely duo are able to team up for four installments of the Scream franchise, each time bringing down the man or woman behind Ghost Face respectively.
6. Arnie Cunningham and Christine in Christine
He was a boy. She was a car. If Stephen King’s Christine taught us anything it’s that love is love. Arnie is the quintessential nerd, totally unfit to be riding around in the red hot 1958 Plymouth Fury he’s lovingly named Christine. However, through a lot of tantrums and a Grease-worthy new look, Arnie overcomes the loser archetype and turns into a full-on villain. A perfect fit for the sleek, devilish ride. No shitter could ever understand the bond between a man and his metal, even if it drives away all of his loved ones or drives over them (oh, the puns). Arnie + Christine 4 Ever.
5. Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Agent Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs
Classic love story: Good girl meets bad boy. I know the relationship between the intelligent, yet sadistic cannibal Dr. Lecter and earnest rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling isn’t exactly love, but there is something there between them and the plexiglass. Starling must find it in herself to resist Lecter’s invasive psychotherapy all the while coaxing information out of him to catch another murderer at large. A man like him is the epitome of evil to her in the beginning, but over time, and a lot of indirect therapy sessions, Starling begins to soften to the doctor’s odd charm. Lecter begins to trust the young agent, feeding her more and more information on how to catch the real (other) bad guy. Able agent and educated psychopath: a force to be reckoned with.
4. Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees in Freddy Vs. Jason
Bad guys need love too! What better horror frenemy-slash-bromance (another pun) example could there be? Freddy haunts his victims in their sleep, Jason stalks them while they’re awake. Teenagers of Elm Street and Camp Crystal Lake beware! Here things get kind of messy what with dimensional lines being crossed and a penalty flag thrown here and there. Friendly competition eventually turns into a testosterone-fueled battle royale. What starts out as a carnage war between the two heavyweight champs of horror turns into a fleeting on-screen bromance. Freddy and Jason figure out that teamwork will ultimately take care of those pesky teenagers once and for all, but then it’s back to their respective corners again until the referee calls them back to the field.
3. Thomasin and Black Phillip in The Witch
The strong-willed, final girl will surely triumph over Satan and his imps by the end of this new-age, witchy tale, right? Wrong. Thomasin and her family are cast out to live in the New England woods where witches and their familiars run amok. Mounting paranoia and evil eventually turn the family inside out leaving Thomasin with the most prominent familiar of all: an ebony billy goat appropriately named Black Phillip aka Satan incarnate. The animal and its evil eye torment Thomasin up through the end of the film. However, like any bad influence, Black Phillip is able to completely isolate Thomasin and coax her inner-witch to prevail. She, in turn, is unable to turn down the devil’s temptation and gives in. It winds up being a match made in Heaven… well, in this case it’s a match made in Hell.
2. Lydia Deetz and Adam and Barbara Maitland in Beetlejuice
A typical ghost story usually involves the dead antagonizing the living and that does happen in this story, but not in the way you think. Simple couple Adam and Barbara Maitland are new members the afterlife and find themselves at odds with the eccentric nouveau riche family that has moved into their house. Despite their best efforts and befriending the family’s strange daughter, Lydia, Adam and Barbara recruit help from a wild, zany, sinister spirit (I won’t state his name here). When things get out of hand (with the spirit whose name I won’t state) and the family is put in jeopardy, the dead protect the living girl they have grown fond of and ultimately bring down the baddest of baddies (again, it’s best not to state his name).
1. Tallahassee and Columbus in Zombieland
Tallahassee is edgy, quick, rough, and brave. Columbus is quiet, reserved, cautious, and a “bit of a bitch” as Tallahassee would say. Both are not exactly social, easy-to-get-along-with types of people. When a zombie virus brings about the end of civilization, these two guys are left Twinky-less and dependent on one another for survival. All bets are unexpectedly off, especially when they meet the clever and independent Wichita and Little Rock. Of course the (anything but) damsels find themselves in zombified distress calling on the two opposites for help. Brains and brawn combine to rescue the girls and show that bromance is the real deal. Together they learn that isolation from the world is meaningless whether it’s populated with people or the undead.
