Hi, I see that you have an ask game as your pinned post so here goes multiple: 34, 42, 48 and 51 :)
Thank you so much for asking’
34: I don’t really have a second language, my closest is probably German though. I really enjoy the classical lieder of Schubert and Schumann, particularly “Aufenthalt” by Schubert.
42: I generally don’t skip songs on albums as a rule, but for favourites: the two most recent Avantasia albums, Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, pretty much every Rush album, and a large handful of classical pieces (because why would you stop listening to a symphony after the third movement when there’s two more to go?)
48: I think I say Avantasia or Ayreon almost every time, so I’ll change it around a bit: Magnum, which is still Avantasia-related cause it’s Bob Catley’s band. They have albums going from the late 70s to earlier this year, though with the loss of founding guitarist Tony Clarkin they might be over. They branch into prog rock, hard rock, and arena rock, with some wonderful melodic tastes.
51: I was really big into a Christian metal band called Stryper as a teen, cause it allowed me to listen to metal while still being approved of by my religious parents. They’ve since eased up and I listen to way more bands and Stryper has fallen down my list somewhat, but they’re still a top 5 band for me and their more recent stuff still brings me joy. Their early stuff was glam metal that was on the heavier side, almost power metal, while their more recent material leans closer to a Judas Priest-style classic metal sound.

MAGNUM Guitarist TONY CLARKIN Dies At 77
Tony Clarkin, the guitarist and creative force behind the U.K. prog/pomp/AOR rock band MAGNUM, sadly passed away at the age of 77. His demise follows closely on the heels of the revelation that he had been diagnosed with a rare and untreatable spinal condition. Consequently, MAGNUM had no choice but to cancel their highly anticipated spring 2024 tour, leaving fans disheartened by the loss of…

Halálhírét lánya, Dionne tudatta a világhálón.

Magnum - Here Comes The Rain
Release Date: 12 Jan 2024
There are few great bands on our planet that you can infallibly identify within the first few bars of one of their songs. That is certainly true with Magnum. Their unique melodic skill, their tasteful instrumentation, the right balance of depth and catchiness, and then of course the charismatic voice of Bob Catley.
Magnum are back with a new studio album ‘Here Comes The Rain’, and are set tour again in April 2024.
The question is, where does songwriter Tony Clarkin continue to find motivation and ideas for new material after more than fifty years in music. He says, "At the end of the day there’s not much that’s more satisfying for a musician than to come up with new number that you yourself really like.” He draws inspiration from a wide range of different areas saying, “You never quite know where or how an idea originates, but the many different countries we’ve travelled, our decades of artistic experience and also our interest in what’s happening on our planet have definitely all played a part.”
Apart from Magnum’s typical trademarks, ‘Here Comes The Rain’ also holds a number of thoroughly pleasant surprises in store, such as ‘Blue Tango’, which is a real riff-rock number that makes you want to move your feet. Or ‘The Seventh Darkness’ with some awesome brass sections courtesy of guest musicians Chris ‘BeeBe’ Aldridge (saxophone) and Nick Dewhurst (trumpet), which lend the song brilliance and shape.
Line-Up: Tony Clarkin – Guitar Bob Catley – Vocals Rick Benton – Keyboards Dennis Ward – Bass Lee Morris – Drums
