Some fancast that took me like over a year to find
Tumblr media
My chitaqua girls!

Alicia (Erana James, new zealand actress). Her as Toni Shalifoe in the Wilds just embodies Alicia for me.
Amanda (Katherine Heigl, US actress). BUT as Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy. I read DTA before I watched Grey's anatomy. I saw her on screen and I literally screamed so loud because to me it seemed like Amanda came to life.
Ana (christian serratos, US actress). Gorgeous girl, from the moment I read the description of Ana I thought of Rosita from the walking dead.
Amber (can't find anything online about her). Found one picture on pinterest and saw Amber in it.
Christina (Marie Southard Ospina, UK freelance writer).
Evelyn (Yoon Young Bae, South Korean fashion model).
Kat (Tiger Lily, French model). I just love her as Kat. Yes, I know Kat has brown hair and the model has red hair now but you need to see her with brown hair and I just see Kat.
Mel (Jerry Heil, Ukrainian singer). I saw her this year on Eurovision and just KNEW. I almost screamed at my tv. (Also her song Teresa & Maria is fenominal).
Mira (Nia Towle, British actress). There is something so innocent that fits Mira I think. Innocent but capable of kicking a croats head off.
Sarah (Alexandra Daddorio, US actress). You may know her as Annabeth in the failed percy jackson movies, but i see her as Sarah. there is something in her eyes that make me think of Sarah. Especially when she's serious.
Sheila (Ashley Marie Jones, US actress).
Tara (Samira Wiley, US actress).
Vera (Gina Torres, US actress). As Zoë Washburne in firefly. The first ever fancast I had for DTA. I can't imagine someone else as Vera.

Doing a presentation in front of the whole class? Playing one of the most important matches of the season? Having to take the last penalty in a shoot out? None of that could compare to the nerves you'd feel whenever you were in the same room as her, whenever your eyes locked, let alone whenever she talked to you. Who? You might wonder. Well, maybe her name would cause you to grin in another twenty years because of the many diary entries she had sneaked her way into. Maybe that was all she would ever be— a silly high school crush, like so many people could relate to. But right now? Right now, Toni Shalifoe was more than just a silly school crush to you.
How you had even developed the crush was still a mystery to you. One day she had just been there, as if she had a spotlight following her all day round. One that was only visible to you, one that warmed you every time you walked close. Maybe it had happened during the regular team captain meetings your school held, which you both had to attend. Maybe it had been during English, when you had sat next to her once when Martha was absent. Or perhaps when you had wanted to support your fellow athlete girl's team during their important basketball game.
She had just passed you again when you walked out of the school's sports equipment room to grab some stuff to set up next for practice. You were in your practice gear, maybe that was how she knew who you were, or maybe the reason she dipped her head at you in acknowledgement was because she knew you were the girl's soccer team captain. You doubted she knew that, though.
You, however, knew exactly who she was. Number 3 and captain for the Hopewell Lake High girl's basketball team.
You caught yourself not so sneakily watching her walk through the hallway, away from you, playing with a basketball in her hands— typical Toni. Yes, you knew that, even if you didn't know her personally. There were only two things you always associated with Toni— a basketball and her best friend Martha. Though the vast contrast between their two personalities, you saw the genuine and strong bond they had built through the years. There was no mistaking that they were each other's rock. You had always wondered how they had came to be, but you would dwell about that another time. It was time for training now.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
"Come on!" Your friend sighed as she dragged you through the school.
"Where are you taking me?"
"Basketball court."
"Why?" You pulled at the sleeve she was dragging you along with, making her stop.
"I wanna try out."
"You? Basketball?" You seized her up, then stifled a burst of laughter, "You're like... what? 5,2?"
"Shalifoe isn't that much of a giant either and look at her being the hotshot of the team."
"At least Toni has eye-hand coordination. You could miss throwing something in the bin even when your hand hovers above it."
She sighed and dragged you in front of her to give you a push forward.
"You should have my back, you asshole."
"I think that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm stopping you from setting yourself up for failure." You snorted but shut yourself up almost immediately when you rounded the corner and saw her.
"I'm just gonna-"
"No-" Your friend whisper-yelled under her breath, "Stay, please. Maybe I'll get extra points if they know I'm friends with the soccer team's captain." She winked playfully, making it hard for you not to roll your eyes.
You shuffled onto a vacant seat on the bleachers, trying to pretend you were busy with your phone but in reality, you were sneaking glances around the room to see where Toni had gone off to. The answer arrived soon after.
Although her back was faced to you, you noticed her familiar dark brown curls and the girl standing next to her. They dispersed and you immediately glued your eyes back to your phone when Martha slid into the same row where you were sitting.
"Hey, Y/N." Her soft voice sounded from your left and you were met with a heartwarming smile sent from Martha.
"Hey! What's up?"
"Toni's taking me to Taco John's after this so I just have to sit this one out. What about you? You're not thinking about switching sports, right?"
"Oh! Oh no, just here for the same reason as you."
"Toni's taking you to Taco John's?" She joked.
"No! No, I'm supporting a friend." You dipped your head to one side of the gymnasium, where your friend was doing ridiculous warm-up moves.
"I hope she makes it then."
You returned the smile she gave you but your cheeks flushed when Toni looked your way. Sure, she probably went to check on Martha, but that didn't mean that you didn't feel the butterflies in your stomach.
An hour later the try-outs had ended and you walked towards your friend, who held her back with each step she took as she met you halfway.
"Told you it was a wrong move... quite literally, too."
She let out a laugh and a groan followed soon after, "The things I do for you."
"For me? What do you-"
"Hey, Y/L/N."
The voice that sounded from behind made you freeze up. Toni greeted your friend as well before immediately ripping off the bandaid to tell her that she hadn't made it to the roster.
"I figured. Absolutely no hard feelings. At all." She gave Toni a thumbs up before walking away, leaving you alone with her.
"Um, I-uh-" You stammered, your eyes shifting from your disappearing friend to Toni who stood next to you, her eyes staring directly at you with no shame at all.
She bit the inside of her cheeks when you turned to her, now fully giving her all your attention. You missed the way she froze at the eye-contact, or how she had been playing with the hem of her basketball tee when your focus had been on your friend. But both of you missed how Martha sat on the bleachers with a knowing smile on her face.
"Yeah, so um-" Toni nodded and clasped her hands together in front of her.
You hummed and felt your cheeks heat up at how you had just managed to make things even more awkward with that.
"Wanna go to Taco John's with us, Y/N?"
Martha saved you both. Toni widened her eyes at her and softly shook her head, a silent plea to not let her embarrass herself further, not in front of you, but you hadn't seen that.
"Um, I should really-"
"Toni's paying." Martha poked her in the ribs, "Right, Toni?"
Toni grabbed her hand and softly pushed her back. She smirked playfully and shrugged, but Martha saw she struggled to keep her cool, "Sure, I'll blow through my whole paycheck but who cares, right?"
Toni turned back to you, giving you a tight-lipped smile. You couldn't really read her, you had never really been able to. It seemed as if she closed herself off every time her eyes met yours, but maybe that was just your imagination telling you that you would never have a chance and that it was better to just let it go.
"I love the offer, but I really can't, I'm sorry. Got a cup final game this Friday so every free hour is spent on the pitch."
Toni nodded, "Gotcha. Team captain duties."
"Righty-o." You sent her a finger gun and could feel your whole being shrink out of embarrassment.
"Well, then- see you later, Y/L/N." She turned to Martha and put an arm around the girl's shoulder, the two already talking about something else as soon as you left.
When you walked out of the gymnasium, your body immediately collided with someone else's.
"Fucking dipshit, fucktard, asstwat— ugh, idiot!"
You received a slap to the head with each insult.
"Finger guns? Really?! Remind me to never try and set you up again because you're just gonna blow the opportunity in the most awkward and dorkiest way." Your friend spoke.
"Set me up?! Was that your way of setting me up? You threw me in front of the lions!"
"A lion, not plural. And a very hot one."
"I hate you. How did you even—"
"Oh, puh-lease-" she dramatically rolled her eyes, "-even a block of butter in the blazing sun doesn’t have a chance against you, who’ll melt within the snap of a finger as soon as that girl near."
The grimace on your face said it all.
"Yes, that bad. But I promise you that only I can see it, since I know you so well. So don't worry, it stays between us."
"It better."
Her laughter echoed through the hallway as she hooked her arm in yours.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
Toni rushed out of the showers and barely gave herself the time to dry up before she hurried into her clothing. She sprinted out of the locker room,
"Good game, guys!"
Could be heard just before the door clicked shut behind her. She pulled on her basketball jacket mid-run, droplets of water flying everywhere as she shook her curls around.
Toni had never been into soccer, or any other sport for that matter. As soon as she had found her passion in basketball, that had been all she had focused on. The sudden interest in the other teamsport hadn't been random. Not at all, actually. But she'd had to play it off like it was a totally random idea, a sudden, unexplainable, absolutely accidental change.
She knew better, though. And so did Martha, who was going to keep that little secret to herself.
Toni knew the importance of your cup game, she’d be a fool not to since the whole school was talking about it. But it wasn't the school's pride that made her want to be present to watch the game. Although, yes, another cup would look wicked in the school's trophy display case, she had to admit.
She hurried out of the building and over the school sports fields where the chatter and cheers of the crowd hung in the air.
"What did I miss?" Toni asked the first person around,
"It's a tie. Been a pretty hectic but equal game so far. Only ten minutes left."
Toni stood to the sidelines and watched, her hands gripping the railing every time an opportunity struck. The disappointment of the crowd was evident, but the school's marching band kept the spirits high.
A tactical cross was sent into the box by one of your team's defenders, making you have to outrun the others to get to it in time. One of the opponent defenders slid in in front of you, blocking your way, but with a tricky skill move, you managed to pass her and keep the ball close your feet.
The crowd stood up in anticipation, and cheers soon followed once the ball hit the net. You threw your hands up in the air and Toni broke a grin of her own as she took in the widest smile she had ever seen on your face. Teammates started to run up to you to lift you up in the air and the whistle that blew soon after signalled that in a few minutes, you would all lift up something else— the cup.
Toni cheered along with the crowd. She was happy she had rushed, even if her wet hair made her shiver in the autumn air, but she hadn't missed your victory or your winning goal and that was all that mattered.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
The many nerves started to pile up and make you sick to your stomach. Why your parents had thought the retreat to Hawaii would be a good idea was a mystery to you, but they had signed you up so there was no going back. Especially not now that everything had already been paid and set up. Making a run for it wasn't an option anymore either since you had already passed through customs. How you had been so naive to think that things couldn't get worse, was beyond you, but your breath hitched the minute you saw them walk into the gate.
Martha nudged Toni as soon as she saw you and sent a small wave your way before the pair approached.
"Y/L/N, what are you doing here?"
If the situation had been different, you would've smiled at the puzzled and adorable look on Toni's face. But things weren't different, and you actually were on your way to some educational girl's weekend.
"Long story. But I guess I'm going to some stupid summer camp in Hawaii for the weekend."
"No way! Us too!"
Martha hesitantly gestured to the seats next to you and you nodded, making room. She pulled Toni down with her, who still seemed lost in her thoughts.
"We've never been on a plane before so we're kind of nervous."
"I'm nervous too." You muttered softly. Although maybe not entirely for the same reasons.
Toni suddenly stood up, "I'm gonna go get Takis and a Gatorade. Anyone want something?"
"I'm good."
"No, thanks."
The connecting flight had gone smoothly, but that couldn't be said of your last flight to the retreat, which you had shared with nine other lucky girls.
The plane looked spotless and still smelled new, which made your nausea even worse. You felt unworthy and extremely posh at the same time as soon as you sank into the white leathered seats. The girl next to you seemed as if she belonged there, though, as she was reapplying her make-up and checking her phone.
You didn't talk to anyone, not until one of the Texan girls proposed an icebreaker. But the fun was soon cut short when the plane started to shake. Toni ran past you, her eyes locking with yours momentarily before she held onto Martha. You didn't remember anything after that, the next thing you saw was the clear bright sky above you.
Something in you told you that this wasn't the retreat in Hawaii. And when you felt your elbow sting and heard the screams of girls around you, you knew hell had started.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
The terror, shock and horror of the situation had kept everyone in their own heads, dealing with their own feelings. But after the initial shock had faded, there was no more excuse you could use for ignoring Toni with all of your might.
You had managed to avoid her the whole day when you had helped climb up the hill with Shelby, Leah and Rachel. Then you had avoided her while looking for shelter with Dot. The sudden find of the black box leaving all of you quiet for the remainder of the night had been another great excuse as to why you were not feeling too chatty.
But on day five, there was no way your avoidance could be excused any longer. You had been so busy trying not to look at Toni or pay her any attention, that you had missed how she started to grow more agitated each time you looked away or avoided conversation.
"I didn't do something, did I?"
"I'm sure she’s just adjusting, Toni," Martha tried to reassure her, but even she felt unsure of what was going on with you.
"It's been almost a week. And she’s not fucking adjusting, look at her-"
The two craned their head back to watch you laugh at Shelby. She nudged you in the ribs at your reply. You slapped the hand away that she threw around your shoulder to playfully pull you into her.
"-She’s fucking avoiding me, Marty, that’s what’s been happening here."
"Toni, I'm sure-"
"No!" Toni stood up, catching the attention of the others. Her eyes flashed across your face which took you off guard, since you hadn't seen it coming. Your face turned beet-red at the sudden confrontation. She glared at you, not hiding her annoyance.
"I'm going for a walk." She grumbled out.
Everyone went back to what they were doing, but Fatin turned to mumble to you,
"Whew, she's like one of my little brothers when he doesn't get my mom's attention."
The confused look you shot Fatin's way made her roll her eyes, "Either you're an oblivious little shit or you're acting oblivious... which still makes you a little shit."
"What-"
"Don't pretend you haven't gone out of your way to get out of hers."
"I haven't-"
"I see the way you two look at each other. The tension, the longing, gah... just makeout already. It'll save us some grizzly Toni."
"Shut up!"
Now it was you who made all the heads turn as you stood up and walked off.
"See? You'd be perfect together!"
The comment made you clench your jaw even harder as you stomped towards the forest. Away from her teasing and prying. Fatin had been right, you had been avoiding Toni. But if it meant that Fatin knew... who was to say that Toni wasn't onto what you were doing? The thought alone made you feel terrible. But you had a great reason though— you couldn't survive on a deserted island and face your long-time crush on Toni at the same time. The latter probably being the most confronting and risky to you. You only had a handful of energy left to spend with the few sips of coke and nuts you ate each day. There was no more energy left to woman up and confess. Let alone enough energy for your heart to replenish after getting crushed.
You were so deep in your thoughts that you only saw her sitting against a tree when it was too late. Her eyes had already locked with yours, causing you to look away almost immediately.
"Sorry, I'll just go and find-"
"No." Toni took some measured steps closer to you, her expression hard. "You're not running away from me again."
She stood close, her metaphorical spotlight causing your block of butter to sizzle and evaporate into thin air.
"You're gonna tell me what's going on here."
"Nothing! I honestly don't know what-"
"Don't bullshit me, Y/N."
Usually, she would address you by your last name, something a lot of people did because of your soccer status. You hadn't heard her say your first name before, but it was not the way you had wanted it to roll off her tongue. She had spat your name with venom, not in the lovey-dovey way you had daydreamed about.
"Did I say something wrong? Did I hurt you? Because I have absolutely no clue what the fuck happened and if that means I hurt you without even knowing or meaning to then I actually-" She stopped herself and you felt your heart ache at the emotion in her voice. You had always known Toni to be fierce and passionate, but you had never seen her like this.
Her eyes bored into yours and they softened. They were practically begging you for an answer, but her jaw remained locked and her brows were frozen into a sour frown.
"You didn't do anything."
"Fuck that. I know something's up!"
Your fingers itched to touch her hand hovering so close to yours, but you held back.
"Nothing's up. I'm...still shaken. I'm just gonna-"
She stopped you from walking off when she held your wrist and pulled you back.
"Um... okay, I-"
"Was it even something I did on the island? Or was it something I did at school?"
"Toni, please, let it go." You pleaded, not wanting her to push you for an answer.
"No! I won't let go until you fucking tell me what's been going-"
She stumbled back when your lips attached to hers, but her hands almost instinctively snaked around your waist to keep herself up her feet. You felt her tug at your shirt to get you closer when the kiss deepened and she pushed herself into you to let you know she was enjoying this.
When your lips parted, you immediately widened your eyes. The kiss, or maybe the realisation who you had kissed, left you feeling lightheaded. Your thoughts were racing at a thousand miles per hour through your head. The only thing you felt you could do was stumble away in confusion, embarrassment and shock.
"Y/N, wait-"
"I really... I should go."
She meekly nodded her head. Her expression no longer seemed to mirror anger or frustration, but the aftermath of opening herself up only for her to get pushed away again was written all across her face.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
"Ah! Look who has returned!" Fatin's voice echoed over the beach. The girls lifted their heads up but you kept your gaze down, your cheeks still flushed.
You sat down in the sand, your back facing the way you had just come from which is why you didn't see Toni approach. The angered look on her face was gone, making it evident that something had caused her energy to change majorly in the ten minutes she had been gone.
Fatin shielded her eyes from the sun as her gaze switched between the two of you. "You took my advice, didn't you?"
"Fatin, maybe you shouldn't-" Shelby tried to get her to shut up, knowing this was only making you more uncomfortable and angry. You grumbled out a sound of indifference, not really wanting to give her an answer but knowing she would keep prodding if you didn't give her one.
"How was it? Intense? Hot? Steamy? All of the above? Everything you've ever dreamed of?"
"Fatin!" You turned around in an instant, as you glared at her from under your eyelashes, "Shut the fuck up for once, will you?"
"What?! I'm only joking! Jesus."
"Well, you don't hear us laughing, do you?!"
"Yeah, that shit isn't funny," Toni spoke softly and hugged her legs closer to her torso after she had quietly found a place next to Martha on the sand.
"Fine, I'll shut up."
"You okay?" Martha whispered to Toni but only received a slight nod and a tightlipped smile.
And so you continued, to avoid and ignore her again, but for completely different reasons this time. At first, you had avoided her to not embarrass yourself further in her company, to stop yourself from falling harder, to stop you from confessing. Now, you were avoiding her like the plague because you did not want to face her again after the kiss. Had she liked the kiss? Maybe she hadn't. It had been so spontaneous and messy but had also felt so right. To you, anyway. You did not know what you would do if you found out it hadn't felt the same to her. Maybe it had caught her off guard and had disgusted her.
Where you had grown quieter and had closed yourself off from the rest, Toni's temper had started to get more out of hand each day. She had trouble keeping all the insecurities, emotions and thoughts inside. You all became awfully aware of that when you witnessed her tear down the shelter Nora, Martha and Shelby had done their best to build.
"I said that I fucking had it!" She yelled out over the crashing of the waves, making everyone stop what they were doing.
All the anger and frustration started to pour out when she tore the shelter apart with the axe and you weren't quite sure that the turmoil that caused this was all of your fault. It was clear that every bit of emotion from weeks, maybe even months and years before this day strengthened each hit.
Her eyes flashed across your face when she caught herself in the act, to see if you looked at her differently, if she had scared you away, to see she had ruined things with you as well. But your expression was unreadable, closed off like you had been for days. Hurt and regret flashed across her face before she ran after Martha.
You did not know what the two had talked about in the short time Martha was gone. But she returned with tears on her face... and without Toni, so you knew whatever had gone down hadn't been good.
Some hours had passed and at first, you knew Toni probably needed some time alone to blow off steam...but when the sky turned dark and she still hadn't returned, your stomach started to twist with worry.
You savoured each itty-bitty bite of Takis you took but couldn't really enjoy it, not while Toni was still out.
"Um, Martha-" You had wanted to keep the conversation between the two of you but knew that had failed when everyone fell silent, the only sound you heard was the crunching of the chips, "Where did Toni go off to?"
"I don't know and at this point, I don't want to know."
"Uh- okay. But... I mean, shouldn't we go look for her? She's out there on her own, in the dark..."
"She's done this before. She'll show up again tomorrow morning." Martha replied.
"Okay... okay, sure."
You felt their eyes on you, Fatin's especially, but the worry you were feeling was too overbearing to care about the rest. It had kept you up most of the night. You wanted to be awake for if she returned, to hear her potential cry for help and spring into action. But you knew Martha was right she wouldn't return, not yet, and she didn't need to be saved like some damsel in distress anyway.
The exhaustion had eventually caught up on you and had made you lose, which was why you were the only one still fast asleep when the others finally started to grow worried the next morning. Apparently, Fatin had disappeared on you girls as well, after taking two cans of drinks.
"How, um...how concerned are we that neither of them are back yet? 'Cause, personally, I'm at, like, a solid seven." Shelby turned to Martha, who immediately let out a big sigh,
"If you're wondering if I'm worried about Toni, just don't, okay? She's not my business anymore."
"Passing the torch down to Y/N?" Dot wondered, all their eyes going to your sleeping form back in the shelter.
Martha let the thought ponder but eventually tilted her head. That might actually work out... She'd been there with Regan, seen how Toni had started to regulate her emotions more and more, how she started to get more good days than bad days. If the suspicion she had built in high school was close to the truth, then she might have just made a great idea.
Slowly but surely you started to wake up from your slumber when the noise of Leah and Rachel fighting rang through your ears, but you only perked up when someone's yells echoed over the beach.
Toni fell to her knees, the sand breaking her fall. She seemed out of breath but the concern and panic on her face got everyone's attention. Just like it got yours.
"This is... this is Fatin's, right?"
Before anyone could take a look at the piece of bloody cloth Toni had found, and before Toni could take a few seconds to catch her breath, you surprised them all by hurrying out of the shelter and throwing your arms around the girl.
"Don't ever stay away that long ever again. Promise me?!"
Her eyes widened in shock. Not only at the sudden surprise of your arms around her, but also that you had broken your promise to avoid her at all costs. Her widened eyes gazed at the girls sitting around, who were all staring at her to see what she would do next. It took Toni a few seconds to get her frozen body to move, but then she softly wrapped her arms around you.
"Promise me!"
"I promise." She whispered in your hair.
"You got me fucking worried." You mumbled into her ear before you let her go and scanned her face, her arms, her body, for any kind of injury. There wasn't one and you felt the weight lift off your shoulders.
The girls kept quiet as they watched, knowing this was some kind of moment the two of you were having. But Martha in particular was extra quiet, her mind running a marathon before she finally came to the realisation that she had been right all along.
☾ ⋆*·゚:⋆*·゚:⠀ *⋆.*:·゚ .: ⋆*·゚: .⋆
The search for Fatin and the find of the waterfall had caused you to, unintentionally, avoid Toni once more. This time she let you. Too afraid she had ruined everything, and too afraid that she eventually would even if she hadn't already done so, made her wary of growing close to you, to anyone again.
Although Martha had still not forgotten Toni's last outburst, she knew she needed to step up and do something if the two of you wouldn't.
Toni's glares of annoyance and frustration at your avoidance had faded into vulnerable and longing looks your way whenever she had the chance. Although she was known to usually tackle things hands-on, this wasn't one of those situations. Not when her heart was on the line.
Martha finally saw her moment when you announced you'd take a stroll to see if anything new had washed up.
"I'll try to be back before it gets dark."
"Toni will go with you." Martha piped up, "Safety in numbers, right?"
"Marty-"
"Go!" Martha shushed her and motioned for her to start walking, seeing you had already left.
Although unsure, Toni took Martha's advice and followed you.
Her footsteps crunching the dried-up leaves on the ground let you know she was not far behind you but you did not dare to glance back.
"So, we should probably talk about the big elephant in the room."
You squeezed your eyes shut and stopped in your step, bracing for the worst. It had been foolish to think Toni wouldn't take the first opportunity she'd get to talk about the kiss.
"We have zero fucking food... so maybe we should try and find something to eat, like, I don't know? Whatever looks edible enough." She continued, trying so hard to fill the silence, "Dot pretends we still have two days' worth of food but I don't see us all surviving on one package of dry ass macadamia nuts." She rambled on, having passed you and now walking ahead.
"You coming?" She gave you a small smile.
"Um, yeah, sure."
The two of you walked further, in silence. Although the given situation, the silence wasn't awkward. You just hoped that was the same for her.
A scoff left your mouth, feeling more at ease now that the kiss wasn't a topic of interest,
"Isn't it ironic that the moment we run out of cokes, we find a huge waterfall... only for us to have no more food. It's like we keep finding luck only to run out of it. Like, you finally get through the opponent's defence with a wicked set of skill moves, which people would talk about for weeks, but then take a shot at goal only for it to get blocked."
"Hate when that happens. Such a cock-tease." She playfully rolled her eyes at you but loved how your soccer reference had made your eyes light up. "That last goal you took during your cup final was wicked, though. Definitely got us all talking for weeks. Don't worry."
You stopped again, dead in your tracks, "You were there?"
She stopped too, her brows furrowed, "Of course, I was."
"Not of course, Toni." A breathy chuckle escaped your mouth and you scoffed.
"Why not?!"
"Because you're you... and I'm me."
"Clever observation."
"You don't get it." You shook your head before walking passed her but she pulled you back.
"Then make me get it. This doesn't need to turn into another week of avoiding me and then leaving me all confused after you kiss me. Did you even mean to or was that just an attempt to shut me up and keep me at bay?"
"You think I'd do that?" The look on your face changed.
She heard the waver in your voice, "Shit, never! But forgive my mind for going there when you haven't given me an explanation."
"I don't want to talk about it now." You pushed past her once more, but she rushed to stand in your way,
"Y/N! If not now, when we're on a deserted island literally on the brim of starvation, then when?!" Her voice broke.
You realised she was right. There was no promise that you would make it off this island alive and even if you did so without knowing what could have been if you had just opened your mouth to her, then you would forever hate yourself for it.
But her prying and demands for an answer had also made you feel pushed into a corner. She had taken the choice of you admitting your feelings on your own time, and that made you feel trapped,
"I like you, okay, Toni?!" You yelled, finally having enough and letting everything explode, "Have done so for I don't know how long, even before this fucking island. Are you happy now?! Now that you know?! Or do you still think I'm stringing you-"
A thumb grazing over your knuckles made you look down immediately. She grabbed your hand and her fingers slowly looped together with yours.
Your eyes were wide as you looked up at her, only to see that her ever-present angry frown was gone. Her lip wasn't in a sneer, her jaw wasn't locked. She looked...you didn't know what she looked like, for you had never seen this version of Toni before.
She didn't utter a word and let your wide eyes flash across her face, let you take the time you needed, all while her thumb still grazed over the back of your hand.
"I-...I'm so sorry. I didn't- I don't know-"
"It's cool," Toni gave your hand a squeeze, "Take a deep breath."
But you pulled your hand out of her grasp and combed your fingers through your hair.
"I'm sorry- What's happening?!" You let out an uneasy laugh.
"I think you were busy professing your undying love for me." Toni's mouth broke into a tiny playful smile, "I mean, I get it. I'm great."
The look you gave her made her shut up immediately— the smile disappeared.
"God, this is so embarrassing." You combed your hand through your hair again and took a step back.
"It would be if this was all one-sided."
You tilted your head, squeezed your eyes shut, "Can you just not-"
"I guess I... like you too."
"You guess?"
"I'm sure."
"You're.... sure?"
"Absolutely positive." Toni smiled and you had to blink once or twice to get adjusted to seeing her so relaxed, "I mean, I still don't understand how you didn't get that when I kissed you back but-"
"I was overwhelmed!" You gave her an annoyed push when she cracked a grin, "Don't make fun of me."
She grabbed your hand when you pushed her away and used it to reel herself in, her hands going to rest on your hips.
"Okay, suave... who did you practice that one on?"
She reclined, to look at you— an amused smirk spreading across her face, "No one, sheer beginner's luck."
"M-hm, I bet." You avert your gaze to hide your smile, finally realising this wasn't a joke.
You both ended up laughing together, the sound echoing around the beach, but Toni's laughter quickly died down,
"Can I um-" She took another step closer, "Can I kiss you again?"
The feeling of your cheeks heating up would've normally made you even more embarrassed, but the tickling in your stomach was overpowering any other feeling. You bit your lip and nodded and planted a soft peck on Toni's lips after a few seconds of her waiting for you to make the first move.
Her fingertips softly grazed your cheek, the other your neck as she held your face close before going in for a real kiss this time. Your teeth grazed her lips when you couldn't stop yourself from smiling, the corners of Toni's mouth curving up as well. She let out a breathy laugh, it getting muffled by your lips when you went in for another kiss. Your fingers played with the curly baby hairs in her neck that had escaped her ponytail.
"Do you need another one for the final confirmation?" She playfully mumbled against your lips.
Instead of replying, you pulled her closer again. Toni hummed in amusement before meeting you halfway.
A laugh suddenly escaped your mouth.
"What?"
"Sorry, I-" You played with the fabric of her red shirt, "I just realised it took me almost dying in a plane crash to confess. And still, you had to coax the answer out of me."
"Shit, yeah, if you had said at school we would've been rock tight by now." She joked and played with your hair and pushed a strand over your shoulder.
"You liked me back then?!" Your eyes widened.
Toni nodded.
"So it's not just a last-person-on-earth-so-I'll-give-her-a-go kind of thing?"
"Why are you so surprised I am into you?"
"I just never... You are- I'm-" You took a deep breath, "I mean... whenever we talked it was mostly about sports or about class, or stupid science projects or whatever. We never really... gotten to know each other. So I felt foolish for feeling what I felt."
"And that's why you kept it to yourself?"
"Well... yes, we barely knew each other and you are so cool and fierce and that sometimes intimidated me because compared to you, I was just... me? I was certain you would never see me that way, if you even knew I was queer."
"Are you fucking kidding me? I literally had to stop myself from staring each time you walked into a room." She snorted.
"Fuck, I'm an oblivious ass."
"I mean... I wasn't gonna say but now that you-"
"Toni!"
Her laugh faded out when she grabbed your hand again, "All jokes aside, um, what do you... think we should... what do you want to do... now?"
"Uh... what do you want to do?"
She looked down, a sheepish smile on her face, "Let's give it a go?"
It had been a week on the island now and there was no saying how long you'd be stuck out there. If your end was nearing, then you at least wanted to spend it with the girl you liked. You squeezed her hand and smiled up at her,
"Let's."

all for us [the wilds girls]
the wilds girls x platonic fem reader
requested: I love your imagines a lot, you’re an amazing writer! I had a promt where maybe the reader is the youngest of all the girls and basically the younger sister they all never had and they all care and love for her very much (maybe short flashbacks with moments of her and the girls) and once their quarantine is over they realize she’s missing and it turns out she got internal injury or something else quite angsty and the girls do everything they can for her
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
“So tell me about Y/N Y/L/N.” Agent Young says.
“Y/N Y/L/N?” Leah asks and Agent Young nods, “Where do I even begin?”
You were the youngest of the group. Not too much younger than them, but still younger. And just like regular siblings being the youngest had its perks and downfalls.
For one, you could never go anywhere alone. Even to pee, the girls would not let you out of their sight.
But, you got away with almost everything. The girls couldn’t stay mad at you for too long, not even Toni could stay mad at you. And she could literally stay mad at anyone until the day she died.
“I’m taking you and her were close?” Agent Fader asks.
“Yeah, she was close to pretty much everyone. She’s like a little bean we all wanted to protect. You just wanted to squish her cheeks ever time you see her.”
“Leah? What are you doing up here?” you ask her, plopping down onto the sand further away from everyone.
She shakes her head staring out at the sun that was just beginning to set, “Just reading the notes he left me...again. I know I’m pathetic.”
“I wasn’t gonna say that.” you reply and she looks at you wide-eyed.
“You weren’t?”
You shake your head, smiling at her a little bit, “You were in love. I’ve never been in love before, but when you’re in love you’re in love. And he dumped you which wasn’t cool. I don’t support your relationship with him, but it’s only natural to be heartbroken over it.”
“You’re wise for your age.” she says, ruffling your hair.
“If I ever meet Jeffery, I’m gonna kick his ass.” you warn her, looking at her dead in the eye.
“You probably can, if I’m being honest.” Leah states and she lets out a small laugh.
Yes, mission accomplished.
You nod with your fists up, pretending to block, “Hit him with that one, two, punch. Pow. Pow pow pow!” you mimic, punching the air in front of you.
Your fake fighting causes her to laugh a little louder and harder. So you decided to take it up a notch, get her distracted a little more.
You get up from where you were standing. And lift one leg up, like Daniel did in Karate Kid, “Finish him!” you yell, making your voice a little deeper.
Kicking your feet up in the air, however you don’t stick the landing. You fall onto your back letting out a small groan and the sudden hit. Leah starts laughing uncontrollably, releasing a little snort.
That small snort causes you to start laughing along with her. Jeffery long forgotten.
“We heard from Leah that Y/N was close with everyone. Is this true?” Fader asks.
“Oh yeah 100%.” Rachel says with a nod, “It was like having yet another younger sister to take care of. Or well...them taking care of me.”
“You think you can beat me in a swim race.” Rachel asks, staring at you like you’ve just grown two horns.
You hum in response, “Yep!”
“Fine you’re on! From this point to those rocks.” she says, pointing at the rock figures in the middle of the ocean.
“Who you got?” Dot asks, Toni.
Toni looks at her with a small smirk on her face, “I’m gonna bet on the underdog this round. I got my Diet Coke on Squirt here!” Toni gestures to you, using your annoying nickname that the girls named you after.
They gave you the nickname after the turtle from Finding Nemo. You pretended to hate it, but you secretly loved your embarrassing nickname.
“You’re on!” Dot says, shaking her hand.
“On your mark, get set...GO!” Martha yells sitting along next to Marcus.
The two of you take off swimming. You start off a little slow at first trying to maintain your energy, but Rachel was the opposite. She was using everything in her power to get their as fast as she could.
When she finally started slowing down, that’s when you pushed on the gas. Moving your arms and legs in a perfect motion. Slowly, but surely you started passing her just as you made it to the rocks.
“Hell yeah!” Toni yells.
Dot groans before throwing Toni a Diet Coke.
“How the hell did you do that?” Rachel asks you, out of breath as the two of you sat on the rocks.
“Honestly, no idea.” you say with a laugh and she rolls her eyes.
“Race you back!” she yells, jumping into the ocean.
“Cheater!” you yell before diving in after her.
Dot was slurping down her milkshake. While the two agents waited for her to stop drinking.
“Can I have another one of these?” Dot asks and Fader nods with a laugh.
“Who do you think you wanted to protect most on the island?” Young asks after Dot finishes her ten course meal.
“Y/N, hands down. I think that would be every girls answer.” Dot explains, plopping another fry into her mouth.
All of you girls were relaxing on the beach. After two days of scavenging the jungle for any sorts of food and firewood. This was the first day all of you could just relax.
“I just came up with the best idea!” you exclaim.
It was just you and Dot. The rest of the girls were scattered all over the beach, doing their own thing.
“What is it?” she asks as your eyes had that mischievous glint to them, “Oh no. I know that look!”
“We’re already stranded on a deserted island, what if we pretended we were on an episode of Naked and Afraid?!” you say, excitedly.
She releases on of her famous hearty laughs, “You want all of us to strip down naked? You really think the girls would be up for it?”
You nod your head, multiple times, “I bet at least 6/9 of the girls here have at least imagined one of us naked.”
Dot raises her eyebrows at you, “Are you one of those 6?”
“No comment...” you state.
After much convincing, you got the girls to have a pretend episode of Naked and Afraid. Everyone was stripping down of their clothes, looking at each other, trying to stifle a laugh.
The air was awkward, yet comfortable at the same time. The only awkward part was standing there unsure of what to do next.
“Y/N, you have a cute butt!” Fatin exclaims, giving you a high five.
Toni sidles up next to her to get a look, “Awe it looks like a little peach.”
You throw your face in your hands, shaking your head as a chorus full of aw’s fill the air.
Toni sat there with her arms crossed over her chest, not wanting to talk about anything to these phonies.
“So we’ve been asking the girls their opinions on everyone else, we’re gonna go one by one on the list and you’ll say one word to describe them.” Fader says and Toni just nods.
“Leah Rilke?”
“Over-thinker.” Toni replies.
“Rachel Reid?”
“Driven.”
“Dot Campbell?”
“Resourceful.”
“Shelby Goodkind?”
There was a moment of silence, trying to find the right words to say, “Complex.”
“Martha Blackburn?”
“Sister.”
“Y/N Y/L/N?”
Toni laughs to herself softly, “Squirt.”
You and Toni were out in the shallow waters of the ocean. Dot sent you and Toni on an experiment to see if watch she saw on TV actually works. Where you stand out in the water and catch a fish with your bare hands.
The two of you didn’t quite know the logistics on how it works, but you volunteered anyway. You were standing out, not too far away from the shore just reaching down trying to grab a fish to eat.
Each time you tried you came out short, “You look like an idiot right now.” Toni says, laughing at you flailing your arms in and out of the water.
“Shut up!” you say, splashing her with water.
“You guys aren’t doing it right?!” Nora yells from the shore, “You need to stay still and patient so the fish will come to you.”
“We literally picked the worst people for this job.” Shelby says and you and Toni flip her off from where you were standing, “You guys literally can not stay still for the life of you. And don’t even get me started on patience.”
“That’s rude!” you yell at her, “God can hear you! You’re supposed to be nice!”
“I’m also supposed to be honest!” Shelby shoot back and you mock her actions, before she gives you the bird herself.
“Hey that’s not allowed!” Toni yells at her girlfriend.
You start laughing with Toni, pushing her slightly. She pushes you back playfully, before it turns in to a full on battle to see who can get the other to fall first. But Toni being Toni decided to just tackle you.
“Ahhhhhh!” you say letting out a little screen, “Something’s touching me!”
“Pick it up! It could be a fish!” Toni exclaims.
You pick up the creature and yell a little louder when it bites you, tossing it in the process, “It bit me!!”
“Y/N, it’s a baby turtle!” Toni exclaims, “You were scared of a baby turtle!”
“Shut the fuck up.” you joke with her, but give her a serious look.
Toni picks up the turtle examining the cute little guy. She looks at the turtles face and then back at you doing a double take.
“It kinda looks like you.” she says, before letting it go back into the ocean.
“Fuck you.” you tease, tackling back into the ocean.
“We really picked the worst people.” Shelby says to Nora.
Both of them shaking their heads in disappointment.
“Thoughts on Y/N Y/L/N?”
“Oh intern for being the baddest bitch out there.” Fatin says with a smile on her face.
“Intern for who?” Fader asks.
“Me of course.”
Nora and Rachel were currently fighting to the death. Neither you, Leah, or Martha knew what to do.
“Y/N come over here!” Fatin says, gesturing for you to go where she was standing, “Take this bottle of lube!”
You catch the bottle of the lube she tossed you. And you raised your eyebrow up at her.
“Just follow my lead.” she brings her toothbrush up to her mouth, “Nora has Rachel pinned on the ground.” she mocks an announcer you would hear on ESPN.
“But Rachel is not giving up too easily folks!” you go along with your guys’ bit, “I don’t know about you Fatin, but I have never seen a girl fight this interesting in my life!”
“Agreed, usually it’s just a bunch of-HOLY SHIT that was a knee to the tit ladies and gentlemen!” she yells out.
“Is Rachel out for the count?!” you add on watching the fight unfold in front of you.
It’s probably not the best time to make jokes, but you all need to let loose once in awhile.
“Wait...she’s getting up!” Fatin yells.
“Oh my gosh she’s not...OUCH! That was knee to the twat!” you yell wincing at the pain that was just brought upon Nora.
“Y/N, how do you feel about this fight?” Fatin asks.
You shake your head, “I don’t know you have two amazing fighters going head to head for the very first time. We have Rachel, olympic diver, very strong and very determined. But then we have the underdog of the hour Nora who is small and scrawny, but she’s packing quite a punch. It could be anyone’s game.”
“You’re absolutely right Y/N! But Rachel now as Nora pinned to the ground and she can’t seem to get up! This fight might be over everyone!!”
“Hey there.” Shelby says, sitting down at the metal table.
“Hello Shelby, can we get you anything?” the two men ask and she just sit back in her seat, shaking her head.
Fader nods, “Well let’s get started, shall we?”
The three of them have a long conversation before Shelby ultimately decides to stop the interview all together.
“Wait just one question!” Fader exclaims as Shelby stands up, “How do you feel about Y/N?”
At the sound of your name Shelby freezes in her spot, “My favorite person on the island.” fear and worry start to fill her body at why the sudden question about you, “Is she okay??”
You were trekking in the jungle looking for some source of food. All of you ate all the food when the rescue plane was coming, but it’s not coming anytime soon so here you were.
Shelby, Toni, and Martha said they were gonna go out looking, but none of them were to be found. So you decided to go on a little expedition to find them. You heard rustling coming from the tree up ahead, so you decided to follow the noise.
Only to see Toni and Shelby basically naked under a lychee tree, “Oh my god!!!” you yell, covering your eyes with your hand.
“AHHH!” the two girls scream, but you couldn’t see what they were doing.
You turned around facing towards the direction you came from, “Sorry sorry. I was just looking for you guys and food. I uh I didn’t mean to.” you say, shaking your head.
“Jesus Y/N you scared us!” Shelby yells and you can hear rustling.
Hopefully, they were putting their clothes back on.
“Damn it I was getting laid!” Toni says jokingly and you could hear a smack hit her arm.
“Leave our daughter alone!” Shelby jokes and you laugh softly.
“Can I turn back around now?” you ask meekly.
“Yes.” the two girls say and you release a sigh and turn around to face the two girls.
You look at their flush faces, “You guys couldn’t have gone a little farther away?” you ask, “Thanks to you I’m more traumatized than I already was.” you joke.
“Oh c’mon you know you liked it.” Toni nudges your shoulder as the two of you walk back to the camp.
Your face flushes as you put your head in your hands, “Stop corrupting her!” Shelby yells at her.
“Let me see her!” Shelby yells at the two men.
“We can’t let you do that. You girls aren't allowed to see each other yet. Not for awhile.” Agent Young says.
“Can you at least tell me if she’s okay?” she asks, looking at the two men with her eyebrows raised.
“She’s fine.”
That didn’t relieve the feeling in Shelby’s chest that something could possibly be wrong. But she couldn’t do anything, even if we tried.
The girls didn’t know how long they were quarantined. It felt like months and it probably was a couple months. They finally let all of the girls hang out together in the small courtyard.
All of them hugging one another, super glad to see each other. Knowing that everyone’s okay. Well...everyone who made it.
“Y/N? Where’s Y/N?” Leah asks, looking at all the other girls.
“She was okay when we left. She should be here.” Dot adds on.
Shelby face was flushed with worry, “They wouldn’t let me see her when I asked about her. I asked if she was okay, but they said she was fine.”
Fader was standing there with a guilty look on his face. Toni’s blood was boiling at the look on his face. She runs up to him, pushing him against the wall, holding onto him by the collar.
“Where the fuck is she?!” she yells.
Which causes Agent Young to burst into the room, “What’s going on here?”
“Where is Y/N?!” Toni yells again, but at the other man.
Agent Young locks eyes with Fade and he subtly nods, “She’s in the infirmary. Her heart was in bad condition, so she needed open heart surgery. The surgeons are working on her right now.”
“You told me she was fine when I was being interrogated.” Shelby says in between gritted teeth, “Did you lie?”
The two men don’t answer. They just stare anywhere, but at the other girls. The silence spoke louder than any words did. Fatin scoffs at the men’s actions.
“That’s why you wanted to know huh?” Leah asks, her imagination running wild, “You wanted to know about her because you were wondering if she was worth saving. Isn’t that right?”
Neither of the men decided to speak again.
“Let us see her.” Rachel says, staring at them intensely.
“We can’t do that. She’s in surgery right now.” Young says.
Toni pushes Fader up against the wall yet again, “You’re gonna let us see her when she’s out. No excuses. No bullshit. You’re gonna let us see our friend.” Toni threatens.
The girls sat in the waiting room of the infirmary. Leah paced back and forth chewing on her fingernail. Toni was trying to console a worried Shelby. While Dot, Rachel, and Fatin sat in the seats waiting impatiently.
Agent Young filled the girls in on your condition. You had a heart disease before you came onto the island. And your parents gave you a little trip to help because of the depressive state you were in. Little did they know you would be trapped on an island with none of the medication that was needed to help you survive.
All of the rigorous activity brought your heart to a weaker state than ever before. When the girls got saved, you were already experiencing symptoms of heart failure. And you were put under immediate watch when you reached the facility. You were getting better, but then your heart gave out and you needed to get an artery reconstructed.
“We already lost too much.” Fatin whispers in the tense silence of the waiting room.
“Nora, Martha...” Rachel draws out.
“We can’t lose Y/N.” Toni adds.
“The girl who loved the most has a heart condition. How ironic is that?” Dot asks.
“I’m scared guys.” Leah whispers.
“She’s strong, she’ll pull through.” Shelby says, trying to boost their hope, but she’s losing faith herself.
After God knows how long the doctor finally came out. All of the girls looking up at her. Tears brimming all of their eyes, scared for the answer they were about to get.
“She’s okay. We managed to repair it without too much trouble. You guys can see her now.” the doctor says and everyone lets out this huge breath.
A smile breaks out on Fatin’s face as tears spill from her face. The six girls walk into your hospital room where you were laying peacefully. Your eyes somewhat open, you had a soft smile on your face as you stared at the girls.
“Hey guys!” you exclaim, as excited as you can.
Dot lets out a small sniffle, “You scared us, asshole!”
“Why didn’t you tell us about your condition?” Fatin asks, tears still streaming down her face.
You shrug, “We already were going through too much. I didn’t want to worry everyone more or get treated any differently. Rachel, if I told you about my heart would you have raced me?”
She shakes her head, “No.”
“Exactly.”
Rachel, Dot, and Fatin take a seat on the foot of the rock-hard hospital bed. You scooted over so Leah could cuddle in next to you. While Shelby and Toni pulled up a chair right by your side.
Leah rests her head on your shoulder, “We thought we were gonna lose you Squirt.” Toni says, ruffling your hair.
Shelby was still crying, looking at you full of worry. You look at the blonde beauty who was now bald, but she still looked beautiful.
“Come here.” you whisper to her. You scoot over closer to her Leah, making room for her.
She sits next to you, crying into your chest, “Hey. I’m okay Shelby.” you look at all of the other girls who still had worry on their face, “I’m okay guys. We’re all okay.”
But the girls don’t look convinced.
“Listen to my heart Shelby, it’s still beating. Just focus on that okay?” you tell her and she nods. Even Leah could hear your heart beating from here.
“You’re really okay?” Shelby asks and you nod.
“I’m okay. I promise.” you say, giving each of the girls a look, They all nod with small smiles, “Now how the hell do we get out of here?” you whisper.
And each of you give each other a small smirk, “Time for the Great Escape.”

This was weird. It was really fucking weird. It had only been four days since we found Jannette’s grave empty. Four days since we found a clean water source. The longer we stayed on this god forsaken island, the more it felt like we were never getting off. And now another round of duffle bags have shown up. You know, as crazy as I think she is sometimes, Leah’s starting to have a point. Something is way off about this place.
Nora and Rachel were the ones who spotted the bags. They washed up on the rocky side of the beach, covered in weeds. Dot was hoping for some more food, maybe more medicine if we were lucky. But to all our confusion, all the bags contained were blankets and pillows. Ten pillows and five blankets, Dot so cheerfully announced. My first red flag was that the insides were completely dry. I didn’t want to say anything though. I was sure there was a reason for this.
“There’s enough shit here for us to double up,” Dot told us while Nora and I laid out the makeshift beds. “Except for one person who gets to sleep alone.”
“Well that’s not fair, why does one person get a bed all to herself?” Rachel asked, standing up defensively.
I rose to my feet as well. “Why don’t we rotate it?” I suggested, hoping to relieve some of the tension. “W-with our off days. That way whoever’s off can have an extra good night’s sleep before they have to work again?” The girls all nodded their heads and mumbled words of agreement. Rachel sat back down on her log.
“Great idea y/n. So who’s bunking with who?” Dot asked. Rachel and Nora instinctively reached out for each other. Beside me, Toni looked to Martha. Martha gave Toni a weary look before reaching a hand out in the opposite direction. Towards Shelby. Even I had to stop myself from dropping my jaw.
Fatin gleefully agreed to pair with her “new bestie for the restie,” Dot. That left myself, Toni and Leah. I glanced between them. Leah was avoiding my eye and Toni...Toni just looked mad. It’s not that I don’t like Leah, I just don’t know her. Not that I know Toni any better, but at least Toni hasn’t gone batshit crazy more than once. On the other hand though, I didn’t find Leah unbelievably beautiful the way I did with Toni. And Toni would never want to bunk with me anyway. I crossed my arms, not doing a very good job at hiding my uncomfortableness. I was about to open my mouth to ask Leah to share when Toni called my name.
“Y/n,” I turned to face her, eyes wide. “You’re with me?” I nod and swallow hard. Fuck.
The sun was getting lower and lower in the sky, just like our food supply. Rachel offered to go foraging for something meatier in the morning, so at least I could look forward to that.
I shuffled under the blanket Toni and I shared. “Sorry you got stuck with me,” I whispered. “I can go sleep with Shelby if you want, so you can be with Marty?”
“Nah,” Toni shook her head. “I don’t mind. Besides, I don’t really think Marty wants anything to do with me right now.” I didn’t know what to say. I felt bad for her. A lifetime’s worth of friendship thrown out of the plane. Literally.
I wondered if anyone else was awake. The light from the fire was enough to see everyone’s feet but that’s about it. I still wasn’t accustomed to how dark it got at night. I was limited to just my hearing after the sun went down. I would try not to listen though. The more you listen, the more you realized how we definitely were not alone out there. Focusing on Toni’s breathing beside me was enough to keep me sane.
Couldn’t say the same for Leah though. She sat straight up and I thought she got bit by a crab or something.
“Does anyone else think that this is crazy?” She asked us.
Fatin groaned. “Leah, we got into a plane crash. Is that not enough crazy for you?”
“No seriously Fatin, what the fuck is going on?”
“What are you talking about,” Dot sat up.
“I mean these,” Leah held up a fist full of her blanket. “Where did they come from? Do none of you think that something’s up?”
I pushed myself upright. “I’m starting to agree with Leah.”
“Oh God, not you too,” Dot flopped back down onto her back.
“No, think about it,” I started. “A bag with medicine just happens to show up? And then we find Jannette’s grave empty!? And now these duffles appear with nine peoples worth of blankets and shit? Who brings that to a resort retreat? That’s weird. It’s really fucking weird.” Everyone was sitting up at this point, staring at me. “I didn’t say anything when we opened them, but these things were dry. Everything bone dry. Rachel and Nora found the bags on the shore, like they were washed up. They should have been soaking. Hell, they should have sunk!” I took a shaky breath in. “Every day we stay here the more it feels like we’re not leaving. It’s like someone wants us to stay here. I know I sound crazy but come on!”
“Y/n...”
“We don’t even remember the crash!”
“We all blacked out.”
“That’s not how plane crashes work though!” I realized how loud I had gotten. I noticed how Nora was sitting, hugging her knees tight. Shelby’s face was pale, even in the orange glow from the fire. I closed my eyes. “This isn’t my first crash.” I kept my eyes shut. I didn’t need to see their faces while I told this story. “I got into another one like eight or nine years ago. The engines broke and we crashed in a forest somewhere near Chicago. And I remember it all. I remember the engines failing, and the plane falling and the back coming off when we hit the trees. I didn’t black out until I was on the ground. So yeah, I think something is fucking off. This isn’t right, none of this is right! We shouldn’t be here, we shouldn’t-”
I started to choke on my own words. I think I was starting to throw myself into a frenzy. Something grabbed at my hand. It was Toni. She looked me in the eyes. There was something in her gaze that told me I was safe. Told me to calm down.
“Okay,” Dot said slowly. “I think we’re all starting to lose it a little bit Y/n. And no sleep isn’t gonna help. Let’s all try to get some shut eye, yeah?”
I nodded profusely and flipped onto my side, embarrassed now from that outburst. I guess I didn’t realize how far off the rails I’d been slipping. Silently, I started to cry.
I tried to stay as far away from Toni as possible. With my back to her, I figured that my crying could be somewhat camouflaged. I was very wrong.
“Hey,” Toni murmured. When I didn’t respond, she tugged on my shoulder to roll me over. I quickly wiped the tears off my cheeks. I couldn’t look at her directly. Her gaze softened. I realized then how close we were. Even in pitch darkness, I could still make out the outline of her face, her cheeks, her nose, her lips- I prayed she couldn’t hear how loud my heart was thumping. Toni reached a hand out and brushed another tear away. Had I started crying again? Jesus I was so far gone. “I know how you feel. I wanna get out of here too.’ I said nothing.
Toni moved to create some more space and put her arm out. I looked at her, questioning, though I doubt she could see my face. “Come here,” she said quietly. “I heard what you told us yesterday, about what your mom says? Sometimes you just need a hug.” I nearly started crying again right there. Slowly, I squirmed closer until my body was curled into hers. I smiled inwards. Besides the fact that my heart was trying to beat right out of my chest, I felt better. We both drifted off soon after.
I woke up to the sun shining way too bright and the sound of…snickering? I opened my eyes and tried not to get totally blinded by the light. I looked up to see Nora, Fatin and Dot standing over me, all chuckling.
“What?” I mumbled. I must have woken Toni up because she started moving underneath me.
Oh.
That’s why they were laughing.
I had fallen asleep curled into Toni’s side and woken up completely entangled with her. It wasn’t a one-sided thing either, she was holding on to me for dear life. What. The. fuck. I jolted upright, maybe a little too fast because the three girls around us started to laugh more.
“Good morning love birds,” Fatin cooed.
“Shut up,” Toni said, using a hand to shield her eyes. “We were conserving heat.”
“Yeah, what she said,” I smiled. “Is it breakfast already?”
“Not quite,” Dot shrugged. “Martha and Shelby are still getting some berries and shit.”
“Oh well in that case I’m going back to bed,” Toni grunted, rolling over. Her and I were on water duty today, so technically we had no need to be up before breakfast anyway. Dot and the girls made their way back to the fire. I was half awake though. Might as well start the day early too. Except that Toni seemed to have other plans.
Before I had the chance to get up Toni was tugging at my arm, silently asking me to come lay down. I gave in immediately. “Come keep me warm,” she mumbled. And so I did. As I laid my head down onto her chest, I noticed Shelby looking at us. She turned away when she met my gaze, but there was something behind her eyes. Disgust. Great, just what we needed. Stranded in the middle of nowhere with a fucking homophobe.
“Do you think Shelby is homophobic,” I asked lowly.
“I dunno, maybe? Why?”
“No reason, I just….That would be pretty awkward if she was.”
“Yeah…”
Nora woke me up a second time that day for breakfast. We ate in silence like we had done for the last few days. Food was running short and we were getting antsy. Toni and I broke away from the group after we ate with half of Fatin’s luggage bag. We trekked up and through the forest towards the waterfall. Neither of us said a word the whole trip. I was starting to overthink. Like, heavily overthink. In normal circumstances, overthinking might be appropriate. The night before was…not normal. But these were not ordinary circumstances. The middle of nowhere is probably the best place to have not normal and still be fine. Whatever. Right? Was it weird? Does she think I’m some weird crybaby now? Was that just a pity hug? Am I going absolutely crazy for no reason?
I’d gotten so wrapped up in my thoughts, I didn’t even notice we’d arrived back at camp. As Toni and I got to work, filling bottles to boil, Rachel was shouting from the top of a cliff. She was holding up a sack of something, I couldn’t quite make it out.
“Who’s ready to fucking feast?”
Mussels. Rachel found mussels. Now, I’d never been one for survival training but the one thing I knew was that seafood was a no.
“I really don’t mean to be a bubble burster, it’s just that seafood can be really dangerous,” I explained. Rachel looked like she wanted to take my head off. “And we do not have the vicinities to properly prepare these.”
“So what, you’re saying I’m trying to poison all of us?” Rachel challenged.
“No! No, no, not at all Rach. This was a great find, you did good.” I smiled wearily. “All I’m saying is that maybe someone should sit this one out, you know? Just in case. If we’re all sick then we’ve got no chance.”
“Great then who’s gonna be the starving one?”
“I don’t mind. I got berries.”
Turns out Shelby wouldn’t eat either. An allergy, I think she said. It felt good to see everyone this happy. Leah was genuinely smiling, Dot seemed a little less stressed. For a second it felt like we were actually on the retreat we were supposed to be on. Toni started to make out with her mussels. Or…well you know, with them. We all found it hilarious. Except for Shelby...
“Fuck you.” And with that Toni was off, running down the beach. I myself was on the brink of tears. Some churches man…they’ll brainwash even the best of 'em. I stared at the sand, not sure where to go. I wanted to chase after Toni, I wanted to stay right here and hide in the sand. The rest of the girls had gone quiet too.
“What?” Shelby asked. “Am I not allowed to have my own beliefs?”
“Not those ones,” I spat. I pushed myself up and jogged around the bend.
I saw Toni near the shoreline. She had her feet in the water. Cautiously, I crept up behind her. I didn’t want to startle her. “You good?”
Toni turned and her stance signaled she was ready for a fight. Her shoulders relaxed when she realized it was just me. “Yeah. No. Whatever, I just need a break from barbie bitch.”
“Yeah, you and me both,” I chuckled. “Will you though? Be okay?”
“You don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine.” She looked back out at the sea.
“G-good. Okay, I, uh…good, I’m glad,” I was muttering. I mutter when I’m nervous. Avoiding eye contact, all that fun stuff.
“Why are you so nervous?” Shit. So she did notice. “I mean you’re chill around everyone else but you get all twitchy around me. What’s with that?” She paused and her face fell a bit. “Do I scare you?”
“Oh god no,” I grasped her hand. “No I promise Toni, I’m not scared of you.”
“Then what?”
I look down at my toes. “I-I um…you-“ I swallow hard. “You’re pretty.”
She didn’t say anything and I was about ready to jump into the ocean and never come back. And then she laughed. She fucking laughed! Oh my god I was going to cry. I felt like I had just been publicly rejected in middle school all over again.
“That was cute,” Toni said, still chuckling a bit. I looked her dead in the eyes and she wasn’t kidding.
“Okay, I’m gonna go back now.” I turned on my heel and started walking back, very briskly might I add. I could not believe that just happened.
“Yeah me too-“Toni cut herself off and started heaving. I looked back. Toni was throwing up her entire stomach and then some. I rushed to her side, brushing the hair from her face. In the distance, I could see Rachel throwing up too. Oh Jesus Christ.
Shelby and I spent the rest of the day running from girl to girl, holding hair and passing out water. It was one huge haze of running back and forth, trying to make sure no one died. I knew that the mussels were a bad idea. God, how could I be so stupid? This was all my fault. Once Dot resurfaced from the dead, she took charge. Leah was sent to go find the medical bag while Dot and I boiled more water. She had me look over Toni and Marty while she took after the twins.
Toni was not good. By the time I got back to her, she was practically lifeless. Fatin was trying to get her to drink some canned water but it wasn’t working. Matha, who was equally unwell sat by idly, crying into her can of water and trying not to throw up again. I pulled Toni off of Fatin and into my lap, trying to get her to drink the water from my bottle. She kept turning her head away or pushing my hand. I pulled her closer and upright with one arm and got Fatin to hold her face in one place.
“Drink,” I told her. She couldn’t even speak but she shook her head. “Toni, drink. Please. You need to rehydrate for me okay?” I got her to drink a little, but she just couldn’t swallow. Martha started crying at some point. Luckily, Leah made it back with the medicine.
Trying to fight Toni into taking the pill was not working Especially not when everyone started crowding and screaming at myself and Dot. Shelby crouched to our level and took the pill from Dot. This only made things worse. No way in hell was Toni ever going to accept anything from Shelby. But blondie wasn’t going down without a fight. In one motion, she’d shoved me out of the way and climbed on top of Toni, dropping the pill into her mouth and forcing her to swallow.
Night fell and everyone was exhausted. Toni hadn’t woken up since Shelby drugged her and honestly I was getting a little worried she died in her sleep or something. Martha wasn’t looking too hot either. She’d broken into a sweat despite the cold of the night. Everyone else is tucked into their respective beds, dead silent. The cold night air made it easier to relax. After a day like today all i wanted to do was curl up next to Toni and never wake up.
Beside me, Toni started to stir. The weight I’d been carrying finally lifted off my shoulders. “Toni?”, I chimed. “Are you alive?”
“No,” she grumbled as she sat up, rubbing her eyes. I didn’t give her a moment more to readjust to life before I tackled her in a hug.
“Oh my god, you’re okay.” She laughed at me again, but this time I didn’t mind. Cause she wasn’t dead. Or close to dying. I pulled her back down on top of me. She fell asleep again in my arms. I smiled down at her. Once again, there was a moment where I wasn’t in living hell. It was just me and Toni. Somewhere safe. And warm, preferably. Everything was going to be okay.
 And then Marty dropped dead.

Toni Shalifoe x Reader Christmas Oneshot
~Light hearted fluff, confession~
~no tw/cw~
(Maybe part one?)
"Hey Toni! Long time no see" y/n smiled as she skipped over to her.
She couldn't help but smile as she saw her, Toni would never admit it, but that little ray of sunshine was the highlight of her day. Who would have thought that the little incident they shared a few months back would make them grow as close as they did.
...
y/n came down from the bleachers with a few people she had met on her first day at the new school, talking to them and not paying attention as to where she was walking. Toni was the one backing into her actually, as she yelled something over to her teammates, not looking where she was going. The basketball player was mad at first, having someone interrupt her practice. She looked up so she could see who the rude interrupter was, stopping herself from throwing curses at the other person as she saw her though; lips glanced with an apologetic, warm smile, eyes flickering with worry as she held out a hand to help Toni up.
...
"Hey sunshine, how was english class? Also, we saw each other on Friday? You really can't go without seeing me for two day? Wow." Toni laughed putting her arm around y/n's shoulder, pulling her in closer as they walked out of the gym.
"Really good. Miss Jones let us watch a Christmas movie.",
"So," y/n started again, fidgeting with her hands, "what do you have planned for Christmas?"
Toni smiled at her awkwardness, "nothing much, I'll probably just sit on the back of the truck, hoping it doesn't snow, looking at the stars."
"Well, as romantic as that sounds, i asked my parents if i could invite you over for a few days and they said you can stay as long as you want." Y/n said, looking up, eyes glistening with hope.
Toni's heart skipped a beat, the thought of getting to spend Christmas break with her new favourite person made her a little more excited than she would ever admit.
"I think i could make that work" She said, smirking, trying to act tough.
"Don't act all cool on me Toni! I know you're a softy deep down." Y/n laughed, poking her friend in the ribs.
"Shit, i have a reputation, don't say that out loud, sweetheart." Toni laughed looking the other way, thus not seeing how y/n's face went red.
"Anyways, are you going to come over? Please, Toni. I already have a present for you. Don't leave me hanging."
"Of course I will, we can't have you missing me for the entirety of Christmas break, can we?" She smirked again, stopping at her locker and getting all her books out.
Y/n leaned against the wall,
"I hate you."
"No you don't." Toni said, slamming her looker shut, putting her arm back around Y/n's shoulder as they walked out of the school.
...
"Y/n, Toni is here, come downstairs." Y/n's mother yelled from the hallway.
"Coming!", she yelled, sprinting down the staircase, which was already decorated for christmas.
"Shit, y/n, that was fast, miss me that much?" Toni laughed, swinging her bag over her shoulder,
"miss y/l/n, thank you for letting me stay here again, I know I can be a lot sometimes."
"Oh don't worry Toni, we love having you here, feel free to stay as long as you want." Miss y/l/n said, wearing the same warm smile as y/n on her lips.
"Want to go upstairs? Your bag looks heavy."
"Don't worry, I'm a strong, independent woman, i can handle it." Toni laughed, yet struggling to keep the heavy bag up over her shoulder.
"Mum, we're going upstairs, call us if you need anything.", y/n smiled at her mother and pulled her friend upstairs, "Get ready to listen to my Christmas playlist~~!"
"Oh god." Toni rolled her eyes, smiling at the other's excitement.
...
"Let me give you a Christmas moment we'll fill with love and joy. So beautiful kissing under mistletoes, baby with youuuu" y/n was singing along with a christmas garland wrapped around her as she tried draping it around her mirror.
"Y/n, you look ridiculous." Toni laughed, rolling her eyes again.
"Oh please you're just mad that I'm not actually kissing you under a mistletoe." She teased, throwing a plastic ornament at the brunette who was laying on y/n's bett.
"Continue being such a brat and I will have no other choice than to actually do it." Toni said, smirking, locking her phone that she used to take pictures of the other in secret.
"Oh well, i can't help it, so i guess we have no other choice." y/n said, smiling as she walked over to Toni, crawling over to her on the bed.
Toni reached her hand out to cup y/n's cheek, sitting up a bit and placing her lips on the other's soft lips.
As they parted, y/n tried hiding her smile, tilting her head to the side but Toni still had her hand on her cheek, caressing it with her thumb and feeling her smile form.
"You're so cute, have i ever told you that?" She asked.
"Yes, on multiple occasions actually, Toni." Laughter filled the room as the two sat up.
"So, y/n, I've been thinking, this has been going on for a few weeks now, I've been trying to work up the courage. I don't want to say the wrong things, i don't want to hurt you. I've been working on myself, you know? Going to that lady to talk to. I want to be the right person for you, god, i really don't want to hurt you and-"
"Jesus, Toni, I guess I have to do it. Will you be my girlfriend?" Y/n interrupted, smiling with a slight blush on her face.
Toni looked at her, shock written on her face for a spit second, a warm, genuine smile replacing it immediately thought.
"Yes, of course." Y/n felt Toni's lips on hers just moments after.
...
Miss y/l/n walked in on the girls laying all over each other, showing the other funny posts they saw on their phones occasionally, not bothering to move as they heard a knock on the door.
"Girls, as much as i don't want to interrupt you, I'm kind of in a time crunch and I still have to go out get some stuff for tomorrow's Christmas Dinner. Could you maybe bake the cookies? You would help me out a lot."
"I would love to, but i'm a little helpless when it comes to baking miss y/l/n." Toni laughed, looking at y/n.
"No problem mum, I'll look after Toni so she doesn't burn down the kitchen." She nudged Toni in the rips ever so slightly as she got up, pulling her with her.

When the world collapses and we move into a post apocalyptic era where shoni images are the new form of currency, how much will this one be worth?
Tumblr media
#50 million simoleons at least#also I’m sure everyone has noticed but when EJ smiles her bottom lip pulls further back on one side and it gives her a little crooked smile#and I 🫶🏻 it so there’s that#and then completely unrelated to this post but what if Toni was keeping Shelby company on her assigned fire watching night and they make the#decision together to not stoke the fire 👁👁 and then imagine the drama when it’s revealed to the other girls like imagine they’re suing Dawn#of Eve and Gretchen and her legal team decide to pull a little uno reverse when Shelby or Toni is on the stand and they like straight up ask#ya know if you wanted to return to your lives back home and being on the island was so bad and if it#was also traumatic and dangerous etc etc then why’d you choose not to alert the boat that was out there and then boom roll surveillance clip#DRAMA 😩🤩#ion know I kind just like the idea of Shelby and Toni having this deep talk on the beach and sharing what their home lives were really like#and Shelby full on drops the facade and really admits just how dark her household was and the fear she has of returning so when they see the#light on the horizon and she goes to get the wood Toni stops her and they stare at one another just long enough to have this silent convo#and go let the boat get away 👁👁👁👁 it’s like they’ve wordlessly made a pact that they’ve promised to uphold until their last days#in this scenario we’ll say miss marty b doesn’t go catatonic because she’s suffered enough and I think it’d be more interesting to see#Martha and Toni’s relationship tested after having such a big betrayal exposed#slay#shoni#toni x shelby#shelby goodkind#toni shalifoe#the wilds

The Unsinkable Eight Learning How to Surf:
[an array of surfboards mysteriously wash up on the beach]
Leah: is a horrible teacher, due to her lack of surf lessons and ends up stacking it more times than she actually catches any waves.
Nora: sits on the sand and yells tips and methods of how to get on the board. “you guys are doing it all wrong.”
Dot: gets dunked by a wave straight away so gives up, sits on the sand next to Nora and laughs as she watches Fatin continuously get wiped out.
Fatin: keeps falling off the board as soon as she stands, but is determined to impress Dot and get her to stop laughing. “AM I DOING IT YET?!”
Martha: never tries to stand on the board, instead she just sits on it and watches the girls, shouting words of encouragement.
Rachel: is kinda a natural and teases Leah after each wave she successfully catches. “your two surf lessons can kiss my ass.”
Shelby: is the best surfer out of the group, due to experience and tries to teach Toni, who doesn’t seem to be quite getting it. “Tones, you’ve gotta slide on your knees first.”
Toni: after the group is worn out she makes Shelby stay behind because she’s “not resting” till she successfully catches at least one wave.
