Gretchen misjudges the experiment
Read on AO3.
The night before the experiment is set to begin, she finalizes her predictions, and she grins, nodding her approval to herself. Sheâs freakishly organized, and she ensures that she keeps everything about the two experiments separated. She has high expectations for the group of eight young ladies, and she has high hopes for the eight young men. She knows the details of their lives inside and out, all sixteen of them. And she can sympathize with so many of their plights, she really can. But she canât wait to see how theyâll adapt â or fail to adapt â to the island.
âSo? Whatâre your thoughts?â Thom questions, and when Gretchen looks at him, his eye twitches. âOn the â the subjects,â he clarifies, as if Gretchen didnât know. His eyes drift to the screen beyond Gretchen, to the high school portraits of Leah Rilke and Seth Novak, to Leahâs smile and Sethâs grimace.
âThose two,â Gretchen states, âwill rise.â
Thom, being the clueless fucking idiot he is, stares blankly at Gretchen. âRise?â
âWeâll have plenty of time to discuss it during the experiment,â Gretchen says, waving her hand dismissively. She shuts the screen down, closes up her notes, and shoos Thom out. Tomorrowâs a big day. She needs her rest.
*
âItâs creepy, isnât it? The information she has on these kids,â Gretchen overhears Alex say to Linh, and Linh must not respond verbally, because itâs Alex who speaks next. âYouâre seriously okay with being part of this?â
âYou just donât get it, Alex,â Linh retorts, and before he can reply, Gretchen makes her appearance. Alex snaps his jaw shut quickly, face reddened.
âAre we ready to begin?â Gretchen asks evenly, and they both nod at her.
*
The predictions are for her eyes only. Like a side wager, almost. A fun little game sheâs playing with herself, just to see how right she might end up being. Theyâre not officially part of the experiment. It kind of got out of hand, actually. She has pages and pages of stupid predictions, everything from Dot will be the first to find water to Kirinâs playing up his masculinity to hide his attraction to men to Toni will make a move on one of the other girls within the first month.
Gretchen turns it into something of a checklist so she can track just how many sheâs right about. Maybe itâs sick. Distasteful. Thatâs what Alex would say if he knew sheâs keeping a list of her predictions, if he knew how convinced she already is that sheâll be right about them. It goes way beyond predictions, sheâd hypothetically tell him. She imagines how that showdown could go, smiling to herself. Itâs about the parallels that we will inevitably see between these two groups of young people, fighting for their survival, learning to not just survive together, but to live together.
She selected the eight girls and eight boys very carefully.

august [leah rilke]
folklore challenge: day 8
leah rilke x fem!reader
summary: so much for summer love and saying us because you werenât mine to lose
*not my gif*
âWe will get married when weâre older,â you promised.
Leahâs head was lying on your lap as you ran your fingers through her hair soothingly.Â
It was one of those days where she was really struggling. She just needed hope that the future could be okay, that you werenât going to die on the island.Â
She let out a sigh, âAre you sure?â she whispered. Her bright blue eyes filled with hope.Â
The salt air breeze casted over the two and you took in a breath, smiling at the girl in front of you, âNever have I ever been so sure of anything,â Â
Leah smiled back at you as you leaned down to press a soft kiss onto her lips. You were so in love with the girl that you didnât notice anything else around you.Â
You wished you couldâve just stayed in that bubble forever. That bubble of happiness and joy as you were so deep in love with the blue eyed girl.Â
But just like moments of time, it slowly slipped away. Especially when you were finally rescued from the island and Gretchenâs quarantine experiment.
Now all of you were on the first flight back to your families and friends. A part of you was happy that you were off that hell hole of an island. But the other part of you wishes you could stay in that bliss.Â
The plane landed safely in the LAX airport. You looked back towards Leah who was smiling widely at you, âNow we can officially go on those dates we were talking about! Just like a normal couple!âÂ
You smiled at her sadly. But before you stepped off the airplane and were about to be bombarded by news reporters and paparazzi, you pulled Leah close. You wrapped your arms her waist and kissed her passionately. The amount of love that you poured into the kiss was enough to last a lifetime.Â
But you donât have a lifetime. This fantasy that you have with her was about to end and she has no idea.
âI love you, you are the love of my life,â you whispered to her, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
âI love you too,â she whispered back.
You took a step back from her and tried to swallow back your tears, âIâm sorry Leah,â she looked at you quizzically, âBut we canât do this anymore,âÂ
Leah stumbled away from you, âWhat? Why?âÂ
She couldnât wrap her mind around it, âThis was a mistake. Weâre not going to be able to make it out in the real world. Thereâs a lot you donât know about me and Iâm sorry, but it was just a summer fling,âÂ
âIt wasnât a summer fling for me!â Leah exclaimed as her voice cracked in the process. Tears ran down her cheeks and you wanted so desperately to run towards her and hold her, but you canât.Â
âIâm sorry Leah, I didnât mean to lead you on and do this to you,â you whispered, avoiding telling her the real reason why.
âLead me on?! You made me fall in love with you. We spent nights with our legs tangled together in the woods! You told me you wanted to marry me one day!â she screamed at you and you shook your head, you couldnât bring yourself to respond.
âBack on the island we were changing for the better! Wanting was enough! At least it was for me! You know I got through that horrible quarantine by living for you. For the hope of it all! That you and me would be together at the end of this. Living in a hell was worth it because I had you in the end!â she scolded you and you looked down at your feet, âI loved you...â
âIâm sorry,â was all you could bring yourself to say.
You stepped off the plane to see the rest of the girls waiting there for you, âYou know you and Leah canât join the Mile High Club now since weâre not currently flying,â Fatin teased and you just gave a tight lipped smile.
Leah finally walked off the plane and started walking straight towards the crowd. She didnât stop to wait for your grand entrance. She just kept going.Â
You huffed as you looked at Shelby who was also freaking out about seeing her family. You placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it lightly, âDonât let Toni go. Donât give up on her ever,â you gave her the advice that you so desperately wanted to listen to yourself, but you couldnât. You canât.
You made your way to your parents. To be honest you were surprised that they even showed up. They were dressed in their business attire as they embraced you in a hug. Something they never really done before.Â
âY/N! Weâre glad youâre okay!â your mother said.
âYes, we donât know what we wouldâve done if our daughter was not able to continue Y/L/N Enterprise,â your father added.
Of course, theyâre only happy youâre okay because their stocks arenât going to drop. Before you could respond someone came crashing into your arms. You took in the familiar scent of the girl youâre being forced the date and marry one day.Â
âBaby you had me worried sick!â your girlfriend said. She took your face in her hands, kissing you. But it wasnât the same as how Leah kissed you, your body felt empty.
âWhat the fuck?â Fatin whispered from where she was standing next to Dot and Rachel.
When she pulled away, your eyes found Leahâs who had heartbreak sprayed all over her face. She finally realized that you were never hers to begin with. You werenât hers to lose.Â

Would you be willing to write a Leah Rilke (The Wilds) x reader imagine with the prompt âWhy are you so nice to me?" Where reader was also sent on the "retreat" and she comforts Leah after a fight with one of the other girls and reader admits they like her?
You released an exasperated sigh as Leah stormed away from the fire and disappeared into the darkness towards the shore. Tension still hung in the air, lingering from the words that had been shouted over the crackling of flames between Fatin and the now-absent member of the group.
âFucking crazy,â Rachel muttered, shaking her head and tossing the small piece of driftwood she had been toying with into the fire.  âWe all better sleep with one eye open.â
âDorothy, care to start your position as my bodyguard a little early?âÂ
You rolled your eyes at Fatinâs comment and stood up, sand falling from your weathered shorts as you did so. God, you were never going to the beach again if you got off this hell forsaken island. Â
âIâm gonna go check on her,â you admitted, seeing Toniâs gaze reach you first. While you knew she wasnât particularly invested in the argument, she had noticed the way you tended to volunteer to help with whatever tasks Leah took up around the camp and that you beamed a little too widely whenever she laughed at one of your jokes. She rolled her eyes but stayed silent as you started in the direction Leah had headed in. Â
--------------------------------------------------
Get a fucking grip.
Leah repeated the mantra to herself silently, her arms hugging her knees to her chest as the chilly night air washed over her in gusts. She knew the other girls thought she was batshit insane and at this point, she was grappling with convincing herself that she wasnât. Â
âHey.â
Your voice startled her out of the new spiral she was starting towards and Leah jumped as you sat down in the sand next to her. She hadnât expected anyone to come after her, but she couldnât exactly say that she was surprised it was you that had. Other than Shelbyâs little freak-out over the mussels and the absolute shit show food-poisoning that had followed, you hadnât made many of your reactions very readable since clawing your way onto shore on the first day.
âHey,â she muttered, wiping at her eyes with the collar of her shirt.  âChecking to see if Iâm finally fully off the rails?â
âNah, nothing like that. The smoke kept getting in my eyes.â
Leah squinted at you in the darkness and chewed at her bottom lip. She knew that wasnât true, and you had to know that she knew that, so why would you even bother saying it at all?
âCan I ask you something?â
âSure. Although, if this is the first round of a game of 20 questions, weâd better invite Shelby over. Sheâd be pissed if we played without her.â You felt a smile play at the corners of your mouth as Leah released a short, raspy chuckle.
âWhy are you so nice to me?â
âOh,â you looked away because even in the darkness you had felt the way her gaze intensified as she waited for a response.  âI, uh, I donât know. I mean, Iâm nice to everyone, I hope.â
âYeah, yeah, definitely, you are. I just...I guess I mean like why is it whenever I freak out and piss everyone else off, you donât seem phased and you donât give me the silent treatment.â
You didnât have a good comeback to deflect what she was saying, and you glanced back to where the rest of the group still sat by the fire. Maybe you would have been better off just minding your own business and turning in for the night. As the seconds ticked by and Leah once again waited for you to reply, you wracked your brain for an answer, any answer that would ease the new kind of tension that was building.
âHonestly, I just kind of...donât like seeing you upset, I guess.â
That answer wasnât enough and you knew it. Frustrated with the fact that you couldnât find the right words to say, you hung your head and sighed.
âSorry, thatâs not true. Well, itâs true, but itâs not really the whole truth and I know you hate being lied to so Iâd really rather not do that, but this is kind of...shit.â
You were digging yourself into a hole now and before you could dig yourself any deeper, you decided to do the smart thing and pull yourself out. Uncrossing your legs, you stood up and tried to quell the panicky feeling that was building in your chest. Â
âHey, donât.â
You froze as Leahâs hand grabbed one of your own and she got to her feet. Part of you wanted to pull free and return to the fire, to the safety of the rest of the group because honestly, Leah probably wouldnât have the guts to follow you back just yet and you wouldnât have to admit what youâre about to admit and you wouldnât have to be standing here in the dark with her face so close to yours and-
âY/N?â
You snapped your attention away from the train of racing thoughts it had run away with and back into the reality of the situation. Â
âSorry, sorry,â you apologized, a slight tremor in your voice. Leahâs grip on your hand tightened, a sign that your inability to keep your cool at the moment hadnât gone unnoticed.  âHonestly, I just...I donât want this to make things weird, but I kind of have like, a crush or something on you, I think. And Iâve been trying to be, you know, chill about it but clearly I was not as chill as I thought-â
You didnât manage to get another word out before Leah leaned in and pressed her lips against yours. It caught you off guard in such a way that the other girl nearly pulled back because you didnât move for a few seconds, but when you finally managed to snap out of your shock and your mind shifted into overdrive.
Holy shit.
Kiss her back, idiot!
Hello??? Do something!
Sheâs kissing me.
Battling against the cacophony of thoughts battling for dominance in your head, you desperately tried to stop your hands from shaking as you placed them on her hips and she pressed against you instinctively. Â
You donât know if itâs been 30 seconds or several minutes by the time you separate, but either way, youâre breathless when the kiss ends. One of her hands is on your chest and you sheepishly wonder if she can feel how hard your heart is pounding against your ribcage.
âWow,â she murmured, glancing at her hand and then back at your face.  âYou okay? Donât go having a heart attack on me?â
âWell, weâre all CPR certified so...Iâd say Iâm in good hands.â

The Unsinkable Eight Learning How to Surf:
[an array of surfboards mysteriously wash up on the beach]
Leah: is a horrible teacher, due to her lack of surf lessons and ends up stacking it more times than she actually catches any waves.
Nora: sits on the sand and yells tips and methods of how to get on the board. âyou guys are doing it all wrong.â
Dot: gets dunked by a wave straight away so gives up, sits on the sand next to Nora and laughs as she watches Fatin continuously get wiped out.
Fatin: keeps falling off the board as soon as she stands, but is determined to impress Dot and get her to stop laughing. âAM I DOING IT YET?!â
Martha: never tries to stand on the board, instead she just sits on it and watches the girls, shouting words of encouragement.
Rachel: is kinda a natural and teases Leah after each wave she successfully catches. âyour two surf lessons can kiss my ass.â
Shelby: is the best surfer out of the group, due to experience and tries to teach Toni, who doesnât seem to be quite getting it. âTones, youâve gotta slide on your knees first.â
Toni: after the group is worn out she makes Shelby stay behind because sheâs ânot restingâ till she successfully catches at least one wave.

Random Leatin Headcanon:
Leah probably loves black tea, and makes it like really strong (English Lit student vibes)
Fatin probably loves coffee and she makes it really strong because she had to stay up for cello practice and now it's just a habit.
So there are just two people who drink really strong black drinks in the morning and the rest of the unsinkable eight just watches in disgust every time because "how the hell do you drink that without dying?"
and Leah and Fatin would just laugh.
But I also feel like Fatin would definitely lie about not liking tea, and then secretly take sips from Leah's tea (and Leah would pretend not to notice but she definitely does) and then Leah just starts drinking from Fatin's coffee too, because she kinda likes it.
So now they just share the two mugs in the morning and the others are even more confused.
#i just imagine them first holding their own cup and then halfway they just switch#i think that's adorable#the wilds#fatin jadmani#leah rilke#leatin#leah x fatin

What I'd really love to see in a s3 is sticking to the multiple timelines structure by making the new island timeline the group at the bunker, and then replacing the interrogation bunker scenes with a future timeline that is the trial against Gretchen. Imagine courtroom scenes where the narration is from the characters recounting the events of the bunker while they're on the stand.
Then in conjunction with this! I'd love for the narration to stick to a small handful of characters that way the fates of the rest are still very much in the air. Particularly I want them to NOT show Leah in the courtroom. I want there to be a deep and dark sense of forebodeing around her fate. And THEN in the final episode, the cliffhanger is the defense calling a new witness to the stand...Leah Rilke, she's sworn in, "do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth..." cut to Leah breaking the 4th wall as she says "yes" cut to credits cliffhanger for s4!

Director's Cut Commentary: Ch. 7 i buried my ballast, i made my peace
omg. i swear it feels like writing this ONE chapter took me the same amount of time/effort as writing the first 6 chapters combined. i had the very last scene written pretty early on actually but for the rest of it, something just was NOT clicking!! i think i know what the problem is but ill get to that in my post-mortem analysis post
idk in a way this chapter feels like kind of an epilogue. i take a birds eye view of a lot of stuff, i kinda had to fast forward through some shit to get to where i wanted to end.
AAAAAGHHH I FORGOT LEAH CALLED JEFF ON THE FIRST NIGHT. you know how in the very first chapter i was like "if you see anything that doesnt match up with canon, assume i did it on purpose"? maybe you were thinking to yourself, "oh interesting move of her to leave out leah finding jeanette's phone and calling jeff. well im sure she had a plan in mind when she did that." no that was actually just me being a dumbass. someone revoke my fanfic license lmao i swear to god i forget some important detail every other chapter. OK rant over sorry...if you see me going back and adding a couple paragraphs to the end of ch.1 someday, pretend it was like that from the start <3
i kinda want a spinoff series about leah and martha and toni's book club. if anyone watched the office im imagining it as like that book club that pam and toby start lol. i got such a kick out of thinking about toni doing reenactments of murder scenes like i can totally see her directing martha and leah and being like "okay now martha you stab leah -- no not like that, it said she was stabbed in the side -- okay now leah you fall over and die -- " also i like giving those three some time together bc i feel like leah rarely gets any screen time with martha and toni and i dont see them hanging out in fics a lot either
leah rilke freudian slip incident, 7 dead 24 injured
annnnd thats a wrap folks! anotha one done
fav line: leah thinking about getting herself a commemorative plaque for making the first move. i also just had so much fun with their entire convo/story this chapter.

â§â° ðð®ðŠðŠðð«ð²: y/n and leah are sickeningly cute together, causing the rest of the girls to make fun of them.

Leah tightly wrapped her arms around the sleepy girl resting against her chest and planted a quick kiss on y/nâs temple. She tucked y/n further into the blanket and laid her head on the girlâs shoulder while she started rocking them from side to side.
âYou comfortable, babe?â
Y/n let out a soft and content hum and closed her eyes, fully relishing in the moment. She was a sucker for physical contact and Leah knew just how, where and when to touch her.Â
From the other side of the campfire, Fatin suddenly let herself fall into Dotâs lap. She looked up at her, a dramatic look on her face, and sighed, âOh, Dorothy, please lull me to sleep with your ravishing words.âÂ
âYes, my love. Tonight, and every night to come.â Dot played along and grabbed Fatinâs cheeks, pretending to smother her with kisses.Â
Leah rolled her eyes and a soft chuckle escaped her lips. She felt kind of embarrassed, but loved how comfortable it felt to have her girl in her arms. Y/n turned around in Leahâs arms, nuzzling her face into her chest while the blanket covered the rest of her body, trying to zone out everyoneâs giggles. She searched around for Leahâs hand with her eyes closed and squeezed it when she found it. Leah grinned at the sudden display of affection.
Toni groaned, âYou two are as sweet as cotton candy and itâs making my stomach hurt.â
âMore like sour candy, itâs so good and disgusting at the same time.â
Leah paid their jokes no mind and leaned back with y/n in her arms, trying to fall asleep.Â
The girls watched as y/n softly tried to blow away the heat from the boiled water in the cup, before giving it to Leah. The girl accepted, grabbed y/nâs chin and planted a wet kiss on the girlâs lips. Y/n grinned and sat back on her legs, starting a conversation that apparently seemed to fluster Leah, seeing the blush on her cheeks.
âI canât watch this any longer.â Rachel groaned and let herself fall back onto the sand. Marty shrugged and hugged the mannequin, âI think theyâre cute.â
âMarty...no-â Toni started, âTheyâre one of those lovestruck couples that are attached to the hip all day long. I wouldnât be surprised if they went to the toilet together.â
They saw the two girls stand up and walk away, holding hands.
âSee?â
âThatâs just what love does... I think.â Martha tilted her head.
âIf we ever get like that,â Toni pointed between her and Shelby, âPlease throw me off one of the cliffs.â
Leah let out a breathy chuckle when y/n pushed her back against a log, straddling her waist in the process. She felt like a teenager in love-- well, she technically was.Â
Her hands went to hold the girlâs thigh and back and she tilted her head backwards, giving y/n enough room to feverishly bite and kiss her neck and jawline.Â
âThe girls-â
âAre on the other side of the island.â y/n pulled at her earlobe, âNo one is around-- itâs just us.âÂ
Leah felt the girl smile against her skin, her kisses becoming sloppy.
âOkay.â She breathed out and removed y/nâs top before taking off her own shirt. Leah gasped when she felt y/nâs hand move down into her pants but gasped again when she suddenly saw the girls standing a few meters away, gaping at the two.Â
Toni and Shelby immediately shielded Marthaâs eyes.
âGet some, Leah!â
Y/n reared back, her cheeks flushed.Â
âWe were just wondering if you wanted cassava or fish for dinner, but I can see you two are all set.â
Leah groaned and hid her face in her hands.Â
âYeah, um- weâll... weâll be right back.â Y/n stammered, trying to avoid eye contact. The girls laughed and walked away again, leaving the two.
Y/n winced, âIâm sorry?â
Leah playfully pushed her back, âShut up, you goof.â
âWeâre alone now, though?â Y/n grinned but Leah threw her top in her face and bit her lip, trying her best not to crack a smile.Â

3:00am [leah rilke]
leah rilke x reader
requested by anon:Â I really miss the Leah ones! Can I please request one where they are the facility and Leah hears her gf hitting the floor/in pain and she tries everything to get to her and take care of her. You can make it angsty as you want
warning: mentions of PTSD
*not my gif*
Thatâs it. You donât know how much longer you could take of this. You thought that being saved from the island and taken into quarantine would actually save your sanity, but in reality it caused you to get even worse.
You were stuck staring at walls all day with no contact with the other girls. And it was killing you from the inside out.
And it was 3:00 am after your interrogation by Dr. Fader and Agent Young all of the trauma and the memories flooded your senses. It was so bad that you couldnât even think straight.
The only thing you needed was your girlfriend or one of the other girls. Someone, anyone who knew what it was like on that island!
You fell to your knees on the floor, screaming in agony and delusion. Everything from the island came back to you: burying Jeanette, the countless times of almost dying, the shark attacks, everything and you didnât know how much you could take.
âLeah!â you screamed as tears poured down your face, âSomeone, anyone!â
Little did you know, a couple rooms away Leah heard your pleads. Her heart broke at the sound and she wanted more than anything than to just rush over to you and hold you.
This facility has become more of a solidarity confinement center, than a spark of hope.
âY/N? Hey! Whatâs going on?â Agent Young comes crashing into the room.
You couldnât breathe, the panic attacks, the PTSD, all of it was becoming too much. You try to speak, but no words comes out. They actually turn into little whimpers and breathless calls.
âIâll be right back, okay? I need you to stay quiet though because Iâm breaking the rules by doing this,â Agent Young confessed and you just nodded, knowing that words werenât my friend.
He rushed out of the room just as the room started spinning. You wanted to forget about it all and just shut everything out, but it was no use. Because every time you closed your eyes, you were sucked back into an actual living hell.
âAgent Young!â Leah exclaimed as he opened her door, âI need to see Y/N please! Sheâs in pain! Sheâs hurting, I need to be there for her,â
He put his finger up to his mouth, gesturing for her to be quiet, before allowing her to follow him. He brought her straight to you and she did not hesitate to run up and hold you.
You were sobbing silently to yourself, throwing your fists down onto floor, but leaving them just above the ground so it didnât make any sound. She pulled you into her lap and started rocking back and forth.
âItâs okay. I know itâs scary, but weâre okay. Everythingâs going to be okay,â she constantly whispered.
The feeling of her arms wrapped securely around yours was all it took for you to calm down. She kept kissing your forehead and holding you tighter like you might slip from grasp.
There was a clearing of throat from the door, the two of you looked up to see Dr. Fader standing there with his arms crossed.
âCâmon Leah time to go back,â he told her.
You shook your head immediately, âNo, no please! I canât be alone anymore! I donât want to be alone!!â you practically screamed, your heart rate racing again at the mere thought.
Agent Young let out a sigh as his eyes were becoming watery, âPlease! Just let me stay here tonight, she needs me! She needs someone,â Leah pleaded.
But Dr. Fader just shook his head, âIâm sorry girls,â
âNo youâre not!â Leah spat, âFuck you! You donât know what that island was like you donât what we went through! This isolation, being left with the thought of that place of suffering is torture! Fuck you for not seeing that! Sheâs going to become sick if you donât let me stay with her!â
Dr. Fader gestured for two nurses to come in, both of them with syringes in hand. You shook your head knowing exactly what was coming next, it wasnât the first time this has happened.
âNo please! Leah!â you exclaimed as the nurse wrapped his arms around you.
She tried fighting off her nurse as best as possible, but it wasnât working, âI love you Y/N, stay strong okay? Weâll be able to see each other soon,â
And with one push of the syringe, you were out like a light.

leatin x kiss cam (conan gray title <3)
let's just trust the night
crossposted on ao3
Fatin had dragged Leah here, the promise of 'getting out of the house' and a tiny bit of begging from her and Leah was agreeing. It wasn't that Leah didn't leave the house, she just didn't do it often after the island, frankly she never really left her room.
Leah was absolutely content with this but when your bestfriend and crush is an extrovert, you go places.
Today, that place was an overly crowded and super fucking loud, in Leah's opinion, basketball game. So here she was, in some crowded stadium watching the 'Rebels' and the 'Dons?' (who she assumes she is supposed to cheer for because she's in a horrible green and yellow t-shirt beneath her cardigan) fight on a Saturday in December.
About halfway through the third quarter, during a timeout, the kiss cam, which Leah hated and Fatin loved, panned over to their section. Of course Leah had spilled a bit of nacho cheese on her shirt and at that exact moment Fatin and her were fighting over cleaning it off.
"You really are a clumsy bitch," Fatin chuckled, finally winning the napkin from Leah.
Leah blushed, "You enjoy cleaning up the messes, reminds you of your mother hen days."
"Don't you even-" Fatin threw the napkin back in Leah's face.
The both of them laughing, the naco cheese long forgotten. Settling into their normal banter, Fatin grabbed her phone to take a photo.
"You are not taking a photo of me at a basketball game," Leah glared.
"And why not?" Fatin questioned, her eyes shining, already knowing.
"One, Toni will be mad it wasn't hers, and two, I do not want this moment immortalized."
"One photo, just for me?"
"Fatin, no."
"Lee, come on~"
By this point the kiss cam had caught two chaste, quick pecks on the cheeks from an older couple and a obviously platonic couple of friends. The camera slowly panned closer before panning over to the two bickering teens.
"Fatin-" Leah paused, poking her crush who had suddenly appeared on the fucking kiss cam with her.
"What is more importan- oh-" Fatin paused before starting to laugh.
"Now what about this is funny Jadmani," Leah snapped, her anxiety creeping up slowly.
"Hey, Leah just irony ok, don't go anywhere right now?"
"It's not funny to me ok?" Leah's hand went up to her eyebrow before Fatin intercepted it.
"Why, do you not want to kiss me?"
"NO-" Leah jumped, "It's not that it's that I just..."
"Leah, tell me, it ok, we're right here," Fatin looked at her with so much of something, putting her soul into her words, like she always did.
"It's more like I really want to kiss you, ok?" Leah whispered, just loud enough for the other girl to hear.
"Damn it, Rilke. I've been waiting to hear that you know," Fatin chuckled, her eyes damp and hands coming up to cup Leah's face, "Now can I kiss you so we're both happy?"
Leah smiled, her hand reaching for Fatin's face, the other one for her hip. Their lips met slowly, the tension high, the kiss cam still on them. Fatin smelled of expensive, high-end, floral perfume; her lips tasting of vanilla and lavender, just like Leah had imagined.
Fatin pulled back, their foreheads meeting, a smile painted both faces, the cam since moving on, Fatin looked into Leah's eyes. The same expression Leah was sure she was wearing was staring at her, full of care, like she held the universe.
"Can we head home?" Leah asked.
Fatin laughed, "Yeah, yeah. We can do that."
They held hands, fingers intertwined and thumbs brushing knuckles as they left, the basketball game long forgotten.

what if they were on the island for valentines day
okay iâm changing this just a little bit just because i donât want to imagine the girls being on that island for nine months HOWEVEr
one of the girls (probably martha letâs be real) convinces everyone they need to celebrate all holidays they could miss out on (halloween, they skip thanksgiving in favor of friendsgiving, christmas etc etc) so they go week by week âcelebratingâ each holiday just to do something on the island that isnât lying around.Â
âValentineâs Dayâ comes around and by now Shelby and Toni have told everyone that theyâre together so they take the day to be as gross and in love as possible. Dot even lets them leave for a few hours, surely to fuck against the first tree they find, Fatin thinks, breaking her own code about ânot encouraging unsafe survival behaviorâÂ
In my mind, this happens probably around the end of the second month theyâre all on the island so things are looking a little bleak for rescue, and Leah and Fatin both have some sort of non-platonic feelings for each other but they havenât talked about their feelings because theyâre idiots. (Sometimes, Fatin thinks, the way Leahâs eyes (her blue, blue eyes) stare into hers, she feels like all of her feelings are being laid out in front of them. And sometimes when Fatin jokes with her (well, sheâs pretty sure itâs a joke), talking so casually, so openly about hookups, about sex, about orgasms, Leah blushes and her cheeks burn with how obvious her feelings are written across her face.)
So with Shelby and Toni gone, the rest of them have no other option than to talk about anything other than their friends specifically leaving their campsite to hookup. Martha, especially, seems to avoid mentioning her best friend at all. They all start talking about Valentineâs from before and then Fatin and Dot start making kissy faces at each other. And Leahâs not jealous, sheâs not, but maybe a few stray hairs from her left eyebrow stick on her fingers as she watches them.
Leah stares out into the ocean, not talking until Shelby and Toni come back, and looking at Shelby, who is nervous and blushing and definitely looks freshly fucked, is even better than making eye contact with Fatin. It replays in her head because of course it does (her mind really doesnât shut up ever, but especially when it concerns Fatin) but itâs not until later that sheâs analyzing the way Fatinâs tongue stuck out (maybe she should chill out), that she really thinks about it. And all of the implications. Then, she promptly shoves all of her feelings down when Fatin plops down next to, looking nervous, if Fatin Jadmani could look nervous.Â
But Fatinâs pulling something from behind her back thatâs small and Leah doesnât even know what it could be (a thong, lube, sunglasses). She stares dumbly when Fatin presses a bunch of wildflowers into her hands.Â
âI know theyâre not roses but you gotta give me some credit, thereâs not that much to work with here.â
Fatinâs looking at her shyly, more soft than Leahâs ever seen her, but her brain shut down as soon as she took the flowers.Â
âYou gonna say anything Rilke? Donât ruin my streak of never being rejected.â
Leah looks at Fatin. God, her eyes sparkling like some fucking reflection pool type shit, maybe Fatinâs gone soft, being in love with this girl and all.Â
Theyâre kissing, maybe straddling the line of making out, when the other girls find them.Â
Dot nearly screams, goes off about banning any more couples, and Fatin just smiles.Â
Maybe Dorothea will get so tired of them sheâll build a boat for all of them to finally leave the island. Or not, Fatinâs pretty happy here, with Leah next to her, eyes shining.Â
