Tong Hua, the author of Lost You Forever... is also the author of Scarlet Heart?!?!?!

I was so so so so so shocked and amazed when I went to Tong Hua's wikipedia page, because the first novel on the list was Scarlet Heart!!!! The Scarlet Heart that Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (that very famous kdrama) was adapted from!!! OH MY GOD WHAT i haven't checked Scarlet Heart out yet (though I know a little about it) and this is making me very very very very interested

basically I am in awe of Tong Hua's amazement (SO MANY NOVELS THAT BECAME FAMOUS SHOWS???) and i just wanted to share :p

I wasn't planning on watching The Longest Promise cos I was meh on the cast and xianxia genre, until I realise it was based on a novel by Cang Yue 沧月 whose novels I absolutely devoured back around 2011. Somehow I had gotten it mixed up in my head that The Longest Promise was based on Tong Hua's novel, but that actually was Lost You Forever 长相思 (basis of the upcoming - I think - Yang Zi drama) ... which I confused with another Tong Hua novel Promise Me A Forever 曾许诺 ! Let's just say it's been a realllllly long time since I read stuff from either authors.

Back to adaptations of Cang Yue's novels... I loved Listening Snow Tower 听雪楼 and 镜 / 羽 Mirror/Feather series but I hated the drama adaptations so much. Honestly I find the cosplay version of Listening Snow Tower a better representation of the novel's essence! But given I have not read 朱颜 (published much later in 2016 when I had moved on from Cang Yue) and I probably won't, I might be able to enjoy The Longest Promise as a standalone drama since I find Cang Yue's world building more under the fantasy 玄幻 umbrella than xianxia 仙侠??

Let me know if The Longest Promise is worth my time. The problem with c-ent now is due to liu liang 流量 and crazy fans/anti-fans, I find myself not trusting reviews I see on platforms like douban when a drama involves a popular idol, making it hard to gauge how I would like a drama as a neutral viewer.
