avocado nourishing hydration mask by kiehl's ୨୧

this stuff literally changed my life!! my skin was literally so smooth and texture-less after using it??? originally i had gotten this as a freebe in a small test bottle, i was a little grossed out at the texture of it at first (as i had never used a face mask before), but i'm so glad i used it!! 10/10 would recommend!!

out of all their products, i would personally recommend:

almost acts as a toner but without a lot of the harsher acids. fun fact, Hwang Jini, known as 'the most beautiful woman in the Joseon Dynasty', used ginseng root water whilst bathing! ginseng is a herb that has long been used in Korea as a natural way to supply moisture to the skin. this product helped even out my skin tone so much!

♡ green plum refreshing cleanser

my favourite cleanser everr!! doesn't leave my skin dry after , i swear my skin looked so dewy after using it!! has an almost minty fresh feel to it! i was a little worried about using it at first, as it has a slightly acidic formula , but i'm so glad i tried it!!

♡ red bean refreshing pore mask

cleaned out the excess sebum i had on my chin! it doesn't dry fully so it didn't strip the moisture from my skin either, my face looked so much brighter after i used it !

now, i feel some of innisfree's products are a tad bit overrated , BUT i still love thier products none the less! their face masks are super cheap and affordable , i love the dewy rose one. their green tea range is super good too! i LOVE their lip products as well.

i haven't tried their cherry blossom range , and while it is super pretty, a lot of people have been saying that it either dried their skin out or broke them out, so maybe avoid that just in case. (if anyone has purchased it i would love to hear what you think in the comments!) remember, just because the packaging is pretty doesn't mean it's good !!

she was also taught other skills like: shooting a gun ( she has impeccable aim ), playing the piano, can ride a horse, and speak both korean and icelandic alongside english.

she and chris wilder were in film & av club together and ... stella had a little unrequited crush on the guy. girl never made a move, barely spoke to him outside of film projects; figures she'd have time to talk to him and get to know each other when she wasn't so busy. and when he dies ... it awakens an impulse in her to feel so much more, to do what she feels, because who knows when her death is next?

My skincare routine is mostly part of my bedtime routine: wash face with water, cleanser, apply toner, use hydrating toner 3x depending on the time of day I may apply some hydrating cream afterwards. My routine on mornings simply consists of some sort of hydration (may it be via toner or cream), and sunscreen.

parchment - Favourite book? I really enjoyed reading "Why we sleep" by Matthew Walker. For a book with a story, I may have to go with "The Hobbit" by Tolkien. It will never fail to make me smile and feel sucked into gorgeous middle-earth.

oasis - Dream destination? I really want to see Japan. The country seems so colorful. I really want to learn more about the culture. Korea (for obvious reasons) New Zealand - The nature is beautiful. London - I've just always wanted to go, since I was a child. I don't really know why, to be honest. But I do want to fulfill young Amy's wish.

Grammar 1: 군요

-군요/는군요 is used to express surprise or wonder upon learning something new. It roughly means “I see!”, “indeed”, or even just an exclamation. The informal form you might have heard frequently is -구나/군.

Forms:

Verb + 는군요

Adj + 군요

Noun + (이)군요

Past Tense Verb + 았/었군요

Sample Sentences:

재현 씨 완전 잘생기군요! > (Wow,) Jaehyun is super handsome!

정말 비가 오는 군요. 어떻게 하죠? > It’s really raining. What do I do?

어머 사장님이군요. 오늘 회사에 왜 왔어? > Oh my, it’s the company president. Why did he come to the office today?

아, 민우 씨의 여동생이구나. > Oh, so that’s Minwoo’s younger sister.

Grammar 2: -아/어야겠다

아/어야겠다 is actually a commonly used combination of two grammars:

V/A+ 아/어야되다 > “Have to do something”

V/A + 겠다 > “Looks like”, “sounds like”, “appears”, supposing something

It joins together to convey the phrase - “(looks like I) should do something”

Sample Sentences:

와~ 이 토너 이렇게 좋으면 나도 사야겠다. > Wow, if that toner is so good, I should buy it too.

내일 시험이 있으니까 공부 해야겠는데 지금 엄청 졸려요. > I have an exam tomorrow so I should study, but I’m so sleepy right now.

너는 한국에서 일 하고싶으면 한국어가 잘 해야겠다. > If you want to work in Korea, you should/have to be good at Korean.

Grammar 3: -습/ㅂ니다만

습/ㅂ니다만 is used when the opposite meaning from the preceding clause follows in the later clause. Because there is 습니다, this often signifies a formal expression.

*Note: This grammar is NOT a negation of the verb it is attached to, but rather a negation of the general first clause’s content

도와드리 고싶습니다만 오늘은 바빠서 도와드릴 수없습니다. > I want to help but I’m busy today so I can’t.

죄송합니다만 일이 있어서 저는 먼저 가겠습니다. > I have work so I’m sorry but I’ll have to leave first.

초대해 주셔서 감사합니다만 선약이 있어서 갈수 없습니다. > Thanks for inviting me but as I have an appointment I won’t be able to go.

Here, the negation is not on the exact verb ‘Thank you’ that the grammar is attached to, but on the general invitation (which is the content of the first clause)

The Day Before and Officially Day 1 in Korea

We are off to Korea! I made it to JFK on Monday, and we drove the airport on Tuesday morning to make our 1:50 flight. Big props to the TSA agents at JFK - they are some of the nicest people that I have ever met, and thank you so much for not making this experience a nightmare that it could have been.

I would also like to make tribute to my toner that did not make it through security, but bless the security agent who let my face wash pass because it was approximately 3 oz. She is a true American hero, and if I could award Purple Hearts, she would be my number 1 recipient.

Let it be known that the flight from USA to Korea is not made for the wary. If you've been affected by the Asian diaspora, want to meet your home country, but hate long trips, sorry, wait another hundred years for teleportation to be invented.

The flight is a solid 14 hours and then some, and it is brutal. I think everyone looked at the flight time at around the 4 hour mark and couldn't believe that it had been only four hours. However, if you ever find yourself in this position, here are some friendly tips to make your ride as enjoyable as possible:

Don't watch any recent movies

Don't watch any recent TV shoes

Have a stack of books to get through

In-flight television is amazing. I was able to watch three movies on my watchlist: The Menu, M3GAN, and The Woman King. All three of them were great in their own special way and deserve their own blog post on what made each of them a great watch and helped greatly pass the time hour by hour.

Rose and I had wanted to stay up the entire flight, but we ended up sleeping for a couple of hours. That and the flight was punctuated with meals, it was hard to find a period of time where you felt comfortable to sleep. Being up for over 20 hours can break you, and while I was irrationally fearing that I would be deported for being too ugly, it honestly wasn't too horrid.

When we finally touched down to Korea, you can almost immediately tell you were in the a different country. The mountains looked pinched up, as someone was molding the earth with their fingers, so unlike the spikes you see in America.

In the US, we were missing the weather that just broke the heatwave. In Korea, the weather is supposed to feel like in the 100's. In a country that doesn't have too much AC, this is just another trial by fire we will need to suffer through.

The airport security wasn't as strict as it was in the US - we essentially just had to give the guards our passport and we were scotch free. We waited a while for our baggage claim, exchanged currency at the airport, and walked out our first steps in a new country.

The first thing I noticed in Korea was that there isn't as many trees. Due to industrialization, they must have paved down a lot of roads and cut down as many tress as possible. Many have been replanted and only not just making it into their senior years. It was a vast difference to Harrisburg where you couldn't make it ten feet without reaching a forest of some kind.

The roads were similar to America. We had an hour drive from Incheon to Seoul, where my family lived, and we passed by sights like giant statues and other art along the way. Incheon is the only national airport in Korea, and so if they wanted to impress their international visitors, this was the way to do it.

Our first destination in Korea was my aunt's home where we had kimbap and mukguk along with spicy pork ribs. The food was delicious, and all home cooking really is. It was here that I experienced first-hand Korean drinking culture.

They love beer.

Granted, I like a good beer myself, but they love beer. With dinner, we drank beer alongside a glass of water. On the other end of the table, they were pouring themselves glasses of soju alongside drinking beer. Everyone was encouraging to drink more and more, and honestly, I could not keep up.

The funniest part was that after dinner, everyone wanted to go out again to drink more beer and eat more food. Rose told me that whenever you have dinner, just be prepared to eat more afterwards, and she was not kidding.

After dinner, we all decided that we would go get chi-maek or Chicken and Maekju (beer). There I had 4 glasses of probably some of the tastiest beer I ever had, had popcorn (popcorn!) as a replacement for chips, and some of the butteriest fried chicken in the world.

It was also so fucking tasty, and honestly, I wish I had room to have eaten more of it.

We went to the convenience store afterwards to pick up some snacks, toiletries, and drinks, and I am so happy to report that there are a number of different beverages to try out. My favorite are the teas, but there are also a lot of ice coffees I want to try before I leave. Maybe I put out a beverage ranking post in the future as well.

Writing this, I am a little homesick, but I am excited to see what is next in store. Today is our first day exploring Seoul proper, and I can't wait to see what is next.
