I think the reason i’m so attached to tommy is that I’m used to watching queer characters go through hell, watching as they struggle and get broken apart by a hostile world. which falls onto the double edged sword of being equal parts relatable and painful.

and in a lot of ways tommy is that character, except he’s a version that’s already come out the other side of that, not necessarily healed but better. there’s just something refreshing about the idea of getting to delve into all that angst, that’s clearly still there, from the angle of a character healing from trauma rather than experiencing it.

I made this point when talking about bi buck as well, but I genuinely think the 911 team deserve props for finding the balance between pretending homophobia doesn’t exist whilst also not writing a queer story that devolves into trauma porn.

I find myself once again stricken with the realisation that angel-looking Oliver Stark confessing in an interview that 'there are kisses later on that are much more initiated by me' was him holding on the knowledge that Buck jumped a guy in the middle of a hospital hall after calling him a goddamn beast

most of the time i don’t even think it’s worth engaging with this stuff because it’s stupid and continues to illustrate a lack of understanding about. stories and fiction and such. but like. the new Thing from people who don’t like eddie or buddie or whatever is being like “eddie stans care about a sexuality arc more than anything else! it’s always about eddie’s sexuality! there are other things to explore!” and the thing is that yeah, i’m sure there are people who are only interested in him being gay (which is fine?) and yeah, obviously there are other things. but like. the thing that people forget in a myriad of ways is that eddie is not buck. for a character like eddie, defined by lifelong expectations and repression and a very specific struggle with the idea of Family, the symbolism of his sexuality holds a lot more weight than the just the fact of his attraction to men (in his STORY, not in-universe!). this is not to say that buck can’t or doesn’t have complex feelings about his bisexuality, but insofar as his actual character arc, his coming out doesn’t actually touch much on a lot of the things he’s been reckoning with as a character: what his purpose is, his parental trauma and abandonment issues, his struggle to actually recognize his wants, his pathological need to please. but for eddie, coming out could and would involve a lot of that specific character growth: reckoning with the expectations everyone has always had for him, being able to self-discover, accepting and putting his wants and needs first for once rather than repressing them, rethinking what a family might look like and his place in it, maybe understanding some of his own mistakes, and continuing to be the best version of himself for his son. like yes he will also be into men and into buck specifically but this is all eddie’s specific baggage; his sexuality is a representation of his Whole Self, rather than the repressed self that caused him and the people around him pain. that’s why it’s so important to eddie understanders to see it 🫶🏽

I was rewatching hbomberguys ROBLOX_OOF.mp3 to escape the horrors (as you do), when I noticed something.

Tommy Tallarico released at least two CDs with songs hbomberguy mentiones (because they contain music by Joey Kuras with tiny credits). Printed on the cover for The Terminator's soundtrack is Tommys name, Tommy V. Tallarico.

I wondered: what does the V stand for?

I remembered that Tommy signed a court document which hbomb also brought up.

Buck being even more pouty about his shift because he's learned Tommy is sick which means their date is off but moreover he can't duck out early to take care of him bc Gerrard is an asshole. he vents all this to Bobby on a check-in phonecall mid-shift.. cut to sick!Tommy opening his front door surprised to find Bobby standing there with containers of homemade soup and a bag from the drugstore. and he's like, "Evan didn't need to send you over, i'm fine." and Bobby is like, "He didn't send me. He doesn't even know I'm here. He told me you were sick and he was annoyed he couldn't be with you, so I figured I'd check in." and Tommy is confused like, "Why?" and Bobby just smiles at him and says something like, "The 118 takes care of each other, and it extends past those bay doors. We're here for you when you need us." and Tommy is just. he tears up a little. sniffles. clears his throat and blames the flu that's wreaking havoc on his body. "Thankyou, Bobby." and Bobby just puts a hand on his shoulder and smiles and Tommy remembers Bobby's captaincy but it's the way Evan talks about him like a father figure and Tommy gets it. he gets it. and he's so damn touched and counts his lucky stars and maybe for the first time realises Buck's team, his family, already see Tommy as one of their own, that even though they worked together years ago he still felt a little on the outside of things, but everyone has welcomed him with open arms and he's gained the kind of family he's always wanted and is so damn grateful.
