What If One Piece had an English Dub? (Part 2)

Hey there guys!

I'm pretty some of you remember a post I made last month: What If One Piece had an LA-based Dub?

It did decently fine, and since I'm kinda bored this week, I figured I'd go ahead and do a part two.

But before we start, I do want to mention a few things.

-I completely forgot to mention Makino! Well in this AU, she would be voiced by Kath Soucie.

-For Luffy, I've decided to make Kari Wahlgren his official voice for this AU.

-As for Usopp, I've settled on Jason Marsden.

-Just wanted to talk about the dub from a meta standpoint real quick. After finishing The Roguetown Arc, the dub would go on hiatus for about three months, officially returning on November 3rd, 2003.

Well now that we got that out of the way, let's get started!

Reverse Mountain (November 3rd-4th, 2003):

Laboon would have his vocals provided by who else?, but Frank Welker.

Crocus would be voiced by Daran Norris, essentially sounding like a more serious version of Jack Smith.

Mr. 9 would be voiced by James Arnold Taylor, using a slight British accent.

Miss Wednesday aka Vivi would be voiced by Mae Whitman.

Whiskey Peak (November 5th-November 10th, 2003):

Karoo would have his vocals performed by Dee Bradley Baker.

Mr. 8 aka Ingram would be voiced by Clancy Brown.

Miss Monday would be voiced by Cree Summer.

Mr. 5 would be voiced by Gary Sturgis, using a similar voice to Ebon.

And Miss Valentine's Day would be voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy.

Diary of Coby-Meppo (November 11th, 2003):

Initially, I was gonna have Garp by voiced by Clancy Brown, but I feel like he would've sounded too similar to Zeff (who if you remember from reading the part 1, who be voiced by Clancy).

So instead Garp will be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.

Little Garden (November 12th-November 21st, 2003):

Mr. 3 would be voiced by Rob Paulsen, essentially sounding like an evil version of Donatello.

Miss Golden Week would be voiced by Grey Griffin.

And the giants Broggy and Dorry would be voiced by Brad Garrett and Jess Harnell respectively.

Drum Island (November 24th-December 12th, 2003):

Wapol would be voiced by Maurice LaMarche, doing a Russian accent like in the 4Kids Dub.

Dalton would be voiced by Phil LaMarr.

Dr. Kureha would be voiced by Tress MacNeille.

And finally, we come to the sixth member of The Straw Hats, Tony Tony Chopper.

Out of all The Straw Hats, Chopper was probably the hardest one for me to find a voice for.

I definitely wanted him to be voiced by a voice actress.

But one that was able to pull off a cute voice without it coming off as overbearing.

So after many years of thinking, I've decided that the perfect VA for Chopper would be the aforementioned Kath Soucie.

Not only does Kath have experience with voicing young male characters, but also ones with cutesy voices.

And those characters strike that perfect balance of having a cute voice without coming off as annoying.

I think the best way I could describe her performance as Chopper would a slightly older Tuffy from Tom and Jerry.

Hiruluk would be also be voiced by Maurice LaMarche.

Which is just the purest definition of delicious irony.

Like, the person who was Chopper's only friend and his father-figure is being voiced by the same guy who had a firing squad blow him to smithereens.

Chess would be voiced by Jeff Bennett, using a similar voice to Mr. Smee.

And Kuromarimo would be voiced by Tom Kenny.

And to wrap this all up, we've come to the big bad of the next arc and one of his operatives.

Crocodile would be voiced by Mark Hamill, using a similar mob boss voice to the 4Kids Dub.

As for Mr. 2 aka Bon Clay, he would be voiced by Jess Harnell.

Well that's all for now, folks!

Shorter than the last one, but that's because I covered seasons 2 and 3, which age a combined total of 30 episodes.

Which is about half of season 1's 61!

But anyway, I hoped you all enjoyed this second part!

Also, there's something really funny to note about this dub.

Already, this dub has reached the half-year point (6 months), running from June 2nd to December 12th of 2003.

And within the span of those 6 months, the dub has already covered the entirety of The East Blue Saga and nearly all of The Alabasta Saga!

Contrast that to The 4Kids Dub, which at their half-year point, had only reached The Baratie Arc.

But then again, they were airing new episodes every Saturday while this dub is airing new episodes (for now) every weekday.

Also, I'd love to hear some suggestions on who should voice the characters I've yet to cover!

Pet Zoo AU:

Quick question, what was Zhao’s and Aunt Lisa’s intial reaction towards Ik bringing home 7 animals with 2 of them being animals you would never see a normal person have. Like there’s no way they were instantly fine with this many animals since yk animals take a lot of time and effort to care and this is also the brothers as well, what did Ik do to convince them to not call animal control on them?

(Also for some reason i imagine Mammon’s and the geography teacher’s rivalry to be like funny small wars against each other. Mammon steal their peanuts, the teacher make’s a trap and Mammon falling for it (but then get saved by Ik), Mammon get revenge and steal something else than the peanuts, the teacher then make’s a ANOTHER trap and Mammon falling for it again. And the cycle repeats)

P.s. turns out, Diluc’s and Yanfei’s VA actually voiced two main characters from The Amazing Digital Circus respectively. The funny part is they voiced the most mentally unstable characters.

i feel like the brothers sorta... trickle in, so it's less of a shock to the system - first ik shows up with a crow and zhao's like "hmm. i don't think they do that usually" but he just sorta forgets about it, next thing he knows the crow's brought home a peacock and then a snake and then a rabbit and so on

and now the crow's started bringing home cash from who knows where, is it exchanging goods and services?? has he been unknowingly embroiled in an avian laundering scheme? in the end he just sorta... goes with it. for some reason he gets the feeling the animals know more than he does

now lisa doesn't hear anything about this, so one day she walks in to have some tea with her good friend and sees these seven animals just chilling and is absolutely FLOORED. "zhao this is madness what the fuck is going on here??!!?!" and he's like "...i don't know i'm just glad my daughter's happy :("

lisa's first instinct would definitely be to call up a shelter or something, but ik's so adamant that all the animals are very polite and they're actually super helpful and well-behaved and really really clever actually, she swears the cat knows how to read. lisa doesn't believe her until she witnesses the snake slither across the room to turn the tv on, change the channel to some colourful cartoon, then slither back to his box by the window

mammon and the geography teacher would have a tom-and-jerry type relationship.... one day another teacher breaks the geography teacher's favourite globe and mammon decides to call a truce for long enough to get back at them, then it's BACK to the comedic chasing-in-circles

@kingsnooz first of all omg im so sorry for misunderstanding it twice 😅 second of all I kinda had to turn this into a post because I wanna explain it

I'm not familiar with professional VA's but I'll agree with everyone else that Dana Snyder fits the dedede role! I don't think Ted Lewis (the old KRBAY VA) fits the dedede role anymore, it sounds too much like "old dedede" than it is "modern dedede" if you know what i mean?? ALSO there's a short animatic I did of kirby and dedede with tom and jerry's voice and I think tom's voice also fits dedede's voice in a way! Of course we can't forget the slight texan accent!

As for kirby, well this is specific but I think Toodles (from tom and jerry)'s voice fits with him! Another option is Qi Xuan (yes, the vocaloid) voice also fits him if tuned correctly. Again, this is super specific but I've been listening to a lot of vocaloid lately so that's gonna explain a bit. I'm not a big fan of super high-pitched kirby voice, I like it sounding a bit more lower and natural if you know what i mean

As for meta I'm pretty content with how he already sounds like in the anime dub, but I think the VA definitely overdid the accent. For the more modern setting though, I think Frylock's VA also fits him a lot! Think it'll be funny if he have a normal american accent but increases his mexican accent once he gets angry, but it's even FUNNIER vice versa.

And sadly- I don't have much in mind when it comes to bandee's VA :( I always like to imagine kirby shares the same VA with bandee- but with a lower tone and a slight texan accent (sharing the same accent with dedede). Unfortunately I can't find any VA that fits the criteria

Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

I like the segment where Slugworth is singing and you can absolutely tell it's all hand drawn and the animators were having a blast doing it. Just as much as Slugworth's VA.

It's a nice addition even the whole parts of displaying Charlie's kindness.

Nice weaving itself into canon while adding to it, not gonna lie.

just simply wanted to try out those whole panel/screenshot redraws artists love to do of various anime/cartoons (I remember when ShadeTomlinson drew something with Jin Kazama based on a frame of animation from the classic cartoon Tom and Jerry). Hwoarang's Japanese VA in Tekken 3/Tekken 4/Tekken Bloodline is Toshiyuki Morikawa who also voices Griffith in Berserk 1997.  Also Berserk 1997 and Tekken 3 were released in the same year, and Jin kind of looks like Guts.  

Hwoarang, Jin Kazama, and Tekken is owned by Bandai Namco

Did you come up with names for Ultimos' and Synaptak's species?

Synaptak could be something like a Neurocoleoidea (a play on Neocoleoidea, a group of cephalopod since he's still somewhat squid-like I guess, with "neuro" describing his brain-like appearance and abilities) and his planet could be Axon (referencing a nerve fiber)

Ultimos is from a planet called T.K, the initials of his VA, Tom Kane. In full, maybe it'd be... Tomos Kaynon to make it sound more "alien"? As for his species, maybe Siegonian-Shustar? Sounds odd, but it'd be a combo of the two men that created Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

7.5.'23. - natjecanje iz atletike

U nedjelju u 9 ujutro je bilo natjecanje iz atletike na Sveticama. Bilo je puno kategorija - od najmanjih uzrasta pa do onih uzrasta od oko 10-15 godina. Za tvoj uzrast, od 3 do 6 godina, bile su dvije vrste natjecanja - trčanje na 60 metara i skok u dalj. Kada sam te pitao što bi htjela (misleći da se može samo na jedno od toga dvoje) rekla si da želiš na trčanje.

Od 15-ak djece bilo je 5 curica, a 10 dečkiju. Natjecanje su prepolovili na cure i dečke, tako da si se natjecala samo s curama. Od vas 5 cura znalo se da će prva dobiti pehar i medalju, a druga i treća medalje. Sve curice su bile starije i veće od tebe. Bila je Morin koja ide s tobom u vrtić, a ostale curice su bili oko 6 godina i fizički jače i spremnije nego ti i Morin. Vjerovao sam da možeš nekako probat biti treća i dobit medalju, ali sam više od toga htio da ne budeš baš zadnja. Nakon što ste krenule trčat brzo su se ove 3 starije cure izdvojile i pri kraju ste ostale ti i Morin. Bile ste jako blizu ali ipak si ti bila ispred nje i završila kao 4., a Morin zadnja. Bilo mi je drago da nisi zadnja, baš sam bio ponosan zbog toga.

Kasnije su sve te cure, zajedno sa dečkima, odlučile otić na skok u dalj, pa si odlučila i ti isto. Nije ti se to svidjelo. Ja mislim da zato jer te smetao pjesak u tenisicama. I nekaj su zakomplicirali, nije se skakalo samo jednom nego se skakalo više puta - prvo kao probni skok, pa onda nakon toga još 3 puta pa se gledao najveći skok od ta 3. Ti si nakon probnog skoka već počela nešto negodovat, a nakon prvog od ova tri si došla do mene i rekla mi da ne želiš više i počela plakat. Nisam to uopće očekivao i nisam znao kak te utješit. Na kraju smo onda odustali. Vjerojatno je igralo ulogu i to da je natjecanje bilo jako rano, a ti vikendom obično dulje ostaneš spavat (do cca 9.30h minimalno, a nekad i do 11h čak).

Tokom tog skakanja u dalj ja sam mislio da će se skakat samo jednom i da će se opet dijelit kategorije na cure i dečke, pa kad sam vidio da je jedna cura prije tebe napravila prijestup, a druga skočila manje od tebe (ne sjećam se točnih cifri, ali ti si skočila mislim 1.3m, a ta jedna cura oko 1.1m) onda sam mislio da si ti dakle treća od cura i da ćeš dobit medalju. Kasnije sam skužio da je to samo prvi od tri kruga i da ste zajedno curice sa dečkima. Ali ni nije to bilo bitno s obzirom da smo na kraju odustali. No u tom trenutku dok sam mislio da ćeš biti treća i da ćeš dobit medalju sam bio tako ponosan i nisam to puno puta bio osjećao. Suze su mi bile krenule i obuzela me neka toplina. No nažalost je trajalo par sekundi jer sam ubrzo skužio da trče i dečki i da će bit još krugova.

Kasnije smo otišli u park, a došla je i mama Ella koju nisi bila vidjela par tjedana jer je bila u bolnici. Tad je bila dobila slobodan dan za vikend pa smo se družili. Dan prije toga je isto bila dobila slobodan dan i vas dvije ste bile na napuhancu kod Avenue malla di si bila jako uživala. Mama ti je kupila dvije "karte" pa si tamo skakala 20 minuta. Napuhanac je bio u tom&jerry stilu i to je bilo jako fora. Iako nisi previše puta u životu gledala tom i jerry crtić znala si dobro tko su oni. Jedan od prvih filmova koje smo gledali u ljetnom kinu na Cresu je bio Tom&Jerry kad je radnja bila mislim u NYC-u iz 2021. godine ako se ne varam. To smo gledali ti i ja, a kasnije sam ja to skinuo na laptop pa smo i u Zagrebu pogledali s mamom.

watching steven universe for the first time. still on season 1. im noticing over half of the episodes are like... it's like regular show in that the first like half of the episode is relatively normal and kind of slice of life??? or at the very least just kind of stuff happening, and then after that shit picks up to a thousand, but unlike regular show it's taken super seriously and oftentimes what feels like act 3 movie character development happens out of nowhere. like idk some of these episodes have moments that would feel more deserved if there was more buildup or if it was part of like a multi-part special or something.

but other episodes are more like early adventure time. i cannot explain why
