when boromir died for merry and pippin and then pippin saves faramir's life. when pippin says i offer you my service in payment for this debt. when he offers it to denethor but really it's to gondor and to boromir and to the man that denethor once was. when boromir saving pippin's life directly means that pippin saves faramir's life and literally...to boromir, that would've been enough, to have his brother live. for gondor that is enough, to have their captain returned to them.

Started reading don quixote bc of luis residentevil4 we're really in it now
#its like long.... also fhdksndkfbsksb#like i know leon didnt.get the joke and thats kind of the point but like luis isnt just poking fun at leon by calling him sancho hes#clearly making fun of himself by comparing himself to don quixote as well considering the context of the story#which is fun#also the way this story is told as like a faux historical account very much reminds me of lotr#i mean this is a classic so its highly likely tolkien drew insp from it in some way#just thinking abt it#note to myself

So different languages have verb tense and mood systems that make referring to different concepts of past/present/future possible/certain/imperative etc varyingly concise or complicated.
And y’know how time travel stories often have lines about trying to parse like. what would have happened if we hadnt time traveled and did happen in our past but is no longer part of your future, and the like?
What if a time travelling society ends up with whole new unique grammatical constructions to account for that kind of complication and ambiguity?
