Sangheili Bracket Round 1 Match 18
More info below:
Ussa 'Xellus:
Debuted in Halo: Broken Circle
Born in the 10th century BCE and living at least into the 9th century BCE, he fought against the San'Shyuum during the San'Shyuum-Sangheili war prior to the forming of the Covenant, with Ernicka the Scar-Maker being his second in command. He was observed by the High Lord of Sacred Relics - Mken 'Scre'ah'ben - who tried to assassinate him and later capture him for intel. Ussa would continue to fend off Mken's attacks and force the San'Shyuum forces to retreat off the Planet of Blue and Red. However, he soon realized that they intended to use a weapon from orbit that would kill all his men whilst leaving the planet's Forerunner relics intact, so he quickly ordered a retreat himself. As the war continued, Ussa's first-born son - Ossis 'Xellus - would die in combat. When it finally ended and the Covenant formed, Ussa was amongst those that still did not trust the San'Shyuum and continued to rebel against them. For this, his neighbors loyal to the Covenant reported him, causing Xellus keep to be assaulted. While hundreds of the keep's inhabitants were killed, Ussa survived and led the other survivors to a region at Sanghelios' southern pole, hiding within a dormant volcano as they prepared themselves for further rebellion. In the meantime, he and his mate Sooln would travel to a mining colony to recruit more rebels and meet with informants. Whilst they failed to find any recruits, the elderly 'Crecka would approach them with information on a Forerunner shield world. The three would travel to said shield world and meet its monitor - Enduring Bias - who granted permission for Ussa's followers to take refuge there. As he returned, he found an attack beginning to close in, causing him to realize there was a spy. After luring out and killing the spy, they all departed off of Sanghelios. Once at the shield world now called the Refuge, his followers began calling themselves "Ussans" in his honor, while Salus 'Crolon started to question him and express doubts to others. He and another by the name of 'Drem would then jump to the conclusion that Ussa was secretly conspiring with the San'Shyuum, due to conversations with Enduring Bias that they overheard. They would begin to plan a rebellion, which Tersa 'Gunok and Lnur 'Mol would uncover and warn Ussa about, with Enduring Bias providing footage at a trial. 'Drem would be killed following a failed escape attempt whilst 'Crolon would be imprisoned pending an execution, only for him to escape the shield world. Realizing 'Crolon might reveal the Refuge's location to the Covenant, Ussa decided to use the world's Disassembler process in a plan to make the Covenant believe the Ussans to be dead. The Covenant fleet that arrived was led by none other than Ussa's old San'Shyuum rival Mken, now the Prophet of Inner Conviction. Mken would first attempt to negotiate, but the two would not come to an agreement. Before he activated the Disassembler, Ussa warned the Covenant to retreat and that the shield world would be destroyed. As the Refuge was destroyed, the Ussans would survive the process aboard large freight movers. The Refuge would then live on as fragmented habitats hidden within the system's asteroid belt, continuing even into the 2550s and always led by Ussa's descendants.
Toha 'Sumai
Mentioned in lore
One of the greatest swordsmen on Sanghelios, with Bothaes as his home province. Due to the right for swordsmen of a certain talent to mate with any female, he mated with the wife of a wealthy merchant from his own keep, with Usze 'Taham being born as a result. Posing as an uncle, Toha would train Usze. Around this time, he also trained Okro 'Vagaduun. Later, by March 2555, his former student Okro would duel him to the death as part of initiation into the Banished. Toha's personal energy sword would also be taken by him. His legacy is preserved and carried on by Usze.

Happy birthday to Usze 'Taham! Today is his -495th birthday!
Tumblr media
Usze was the son of famed swordsman Toha 'Sumai, who had the privileged of mating with his mother due to his status. Usze was raised by his mother and her husband, a wealthy merchant, while receiving training from 'Sumai, whom Usze believed was his uncle. He excelled at his training and graduated with honors from a top war college.
Usze was soon offered a position on the Covenant Honor Guard. Though a prestigious position, it was largely ceremonial, and Usze made the risky decision to decline, preferring a combat position. Though his superiors warned him that the decision could signal a lack of faith, others respected him for his choice to continue fighting. Still, the decision was not without consequence, with Usze evading punishment and attempts on his life. Though he was faithful to the Covenant, he also joined the Ascetics, a Sangheili order with deep ties to Sangheili pre-Covenant history and beliefs, who existed to preserve their ideals and faith. Unable to be swayed, and otherwise remaining above reproach, he was eventually assigned to the Special Operations division under the leadership of Rtas 'Vadum(ee).
When the Covenant fractured, he remained loyal to the Covenant Separatists, joining Arbiter Thel 'Vadam on his journey to the Ark to prevent the Halo array from firing. After the war, Usze was instrumental in reviving the Ascetic guard, becoming one of their emissaries and a liaison to the UNSC. He worked closely with humans, helping to establish the Riftborn, a joint UNSC/Swords of Sanghelios spec ops unit located on Anvil Station.
During the Blooding Years, Usze was called back home to maintain order on Sanghelios, including thwarting attempts on the Arbiter's life. He answered directly to 'Vadam, who would order him back to the Ark on another joint mission with the UNSC to investigate a countdown signal which suggested that the Halo array was once again set to fire. He was once again paired with N'tho 'Sroam, whom he served with on the Ark, as well as Spartan Frank Kodiak and a team of scientists, including Olympia Vale before she became a Spartan.
After discovering that the signal was being controlled by a rogue AI, Usze and the team were able to stop the countdown, but not without destroying the AI. Usze would form a friendship with Vale, whom he consoled when she expressed that the AI's destruction was a diplomatic failure on her part.
Usze continued to serve directly under 'Vadam during the Created crisis.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 41!

Happy birthday to Okro 'Vagaduun!
Today is his -469th birthday!
Tumblr media
'Vagaduun was born on Suban and trained by acclaimed swordsman Toha 'Sumai (who notably, is also Usze 'Taham's biological father).
Known for defying impossible odds, 'Vagaduun regularly found himself as a sole survivor. After the fall of the Covenant, he survived an attack on Suban initiated by the San'Shyuum, who intended on decimating the Bloodbrave Guardians of Suban, the mercenary group he aligned with. He alone survived the attack, and was offered a place in the Banished, which he would not accept until a year later, after watching his species unravel into civil war.
In an act of loyalty to Atriox, before he joined the Banished, he sought out and battled with 'Sumai, killing his former teacher and claiming his blade for his own.
He joined Atriox in finding the key to locate the Xalanyn, a mission which was a success but once again found himself as one of the only survivors.
He would eventually join Escharum on Zeta Halo, where his luck would run out after being targeted and killed by Master Chief.

Sangheili Bracket Round 2 Match 8
More info below:
Usze 'Taham:
Debuted in Halo 3
Born Oct. 31st, 2519, Usze was fathered by the famous swordsman Toha 'Sumai (although only knew him as an uncle that would act as a trainer) and born into a respected merchant family in Sumai keep. He would graduated with honors from a top war college, being posted on the Fleet of Faithful Ardor afterwards. After only a single tour within the fleet, he would be offered a place in the Covenant Honor Guard, but declined out of the desire to start away from ceremonial positions. He continued to refuse offers, which could have put him in danger of accusations of apostasy; but, either due to luck or superiors protecting him, Usze would not be targeted, save for some assassination attempts. His actions during the Human-Covenant war would ultimately cause those wishing him in the Honor Guard to finally back off. Still prior to the Great Schism, Usze would join the Ascetics and serve as a liaison for the Covenant, while also serving under SpecOps Commander Rtas 'Vadumee. Once the Great Schism broke out, he would join the Separatists' Fleet of Retribution, specifically the Special Warfare Group. He would then head to Earth alongside the Arbiter and N'tho 'Sraom. Later, he would take part in the Battle of Installation 00, even being present when the Master Chief deactivated the Halo Array and the Arbiter killed the Prophet of Truth.
At the end of the war, he would become a liaison to the UNSC and an emissary within the Ascetics' naval forces. He also liaisoned between feuding Sangheili keeps and factions, while also helping to resurrect the Ascetic Guard. Upon joining the Swords of Sanghelios, he helped establish the Riftborn: a SpecOps division fully committed to joint operations with the UNSC. In 2555, he learned of an assassination plot against the Arbiter and confronted the would-be assassin, Otar 'Bemet, refusing his attempts to get Usze on his side and killing the rebel. Once that was finished, the Arbiter informed him that the UNSC discovered the Halo Array was suddenly ticking down to activation, so he would be sending him alongside N'tho and the Mayhem to help stop it in Operation: FAR STORM. While waiting for the portal at Voi to be reactivated, he watched over the Huragok Drifts Randomly. When Drifts finally activated the portal, a Forerunner Retriever suddenly appeared and attacked. A meeting would then be organized on Mayhem. The Sangheili wished to continue on with the operation immediately, but Captain Annabelle Richards claimed they needed to wait for consent due to the unknown threat to Earth. Yet N'tho had foreseen this as a possibility, revealing he had tricked the humans necessary for the operation to be on board Mayhem and that he had already decided he would be heading into that portal with or without approval. Another Retriever would attack just then, but Mayhem took care of it before entering the portal. To their surprise, they found the journey took a matter of hours rather than the usual two weeks. Multiple Retrievers were waiting for them, causing Mayhem to crash on the Ark. Usze would then join an expedition on foot, only for a pack of Blind wolves and a group of Chaefka to attack and Olympia Vale to become separated from the group. The team would split up, with Usze, Spartan Elias Holt, and Henry Lamb following Vale's footsteps in the snow. Communications with the other team would then be lost, with increased snowfall sabotaging efforts to follow Vale. Therefore, they decided to head to the Citadel in the hopes they'd regroup with anyone. Forerunner armigers and a giant carnivorous planet would be among the obstacles the trio faced on the way. Once the whole team - barring the still missing Vale - regrouped at the Citadel, the Halo Array was shut down only for more armigers to attack. Usze, Luther Mann, Henry Lamb, Drifts Randomly, and Kola 'Baoth would retreat down the same elevator shaft Usze used as an escape route the first time he was at the Ark, while the rest of the team were teleported elsewhere by the Ark's monitor, 000 Tragic Solitude. In the inner tunnels of the Citadel, they would discover the central power station, where Drifts would start repairs while Lamb was killed by a Sentinel. They would continue to search for an exit, finding a heavy, locked door blocking their path. Usze and Kola would lift the door enough for Luther and Drift to enter, but would be forced to wait on the other side, becoming open to an armiger ambush. As they fought off the armigers, Drifts would finally take control of the Ark from Tragic Solitude, who would be destroyed shortly afterwards. With the galaxy now safe, everyone - including the recovered Vale - returned to the Mayhem and waited for reinforcements to arrive and bring them back to Earth. Following the end of the mission, Usze would have a heart-to-heart with Vale regarding her failure to negotiate with the rampant monitor.
By 2559, N'tho continued to assist the Arbiter. Notably, he helped escort the Arbiter to and from a meeting shortly after the destruction of the Jiralhanae homeworld Doisac, only to be stopped by Created armigers and forced to give up his weapons whilst they searched their vehicle for the perpetrators of a recent conflict. Later, when they returned to Vadam keep, Usze would be present - along with Kola - in hearing out the Oath Warden Crei 'Ayomuu regarding the existence of a weapon that could defeat Cortana.
Chak 'Lok:
Debuted in Halo Infinite
Born Jan. 15th, 2485 on Malurok, he would earn a place within the Seneschal order of the Evocati (known as Ultras to humanity) while serving in the Covenant military. After the fall of the Covenant, he would join the Banished and convinced many other Sangheili Ultras to follow suit. Within the Banished, he utilized interrogation and torture methods to collect intel. By May 2560, he was among the Banished forces occupying Installation 07, taking up the Tower as a personal base of operations. Once he finished gaining all he could out of prisoners, he would send them off to the House of Reckoning. Among those taken prisoner by him were Spartan Hudson Griffin and medic Lucas Browning. On or around May 28th, Chak would set a trap for the Master Chief by activating a distress signal within Spartan Griffin's armor. Then, he put the Tower on lockdown and taunted the Master Chief via hologram. Once the Chief finally made it inside, Chak politely greeted him before engaging one-on-one. However, Chief would recovered Griffin's Threat Sensor, which aided him in killing Chak 'Lok. Following his death, Glibnub the propagandist would claim he was still "100% alive" and that the Tower was merely closed for renovations. Others were not convinced and blamed Chak 'Lok for the fall of the Tower, with Bassus specifically openly expressing delight at his demise.

Sangheili Bracket Round 2 Match 6
More info below:
Okro 'Vagaduun:
Debuted in Halo: Shadows of Reach ("Sacrifice")
Born March 2nd, 2493, he was trained by the legendary Toha 'Sumai and joined the Bloodbrave Guardians of Suban before the Covenant's end. When the Covenant did fall, he abandoned his post in the Covenant military and fought in a bloody battle between the Bloodbrave Guardians and a Covenant battle group sent to destroy them. Okro would be the only survivor. After this, he would be given quarter by Decimus and offered a place within the Banished by Atriox, but Okro would initially refuse. Only after watching his people descend into civil war would he finally accept. When he did, he chose to track down his old teacher 'Sumai and assassinate him, as part of cutting ties with his past and show full loyalty to Atriox. They would duel, only for Okro to win and claim his former teacher's sword. Then, he revitalized the Bloodbrave within the Banished.
He was amongst those that joined Atriox at the Ark. When Atriox decided to return to the rest of the galaxy, Okyo participated in a raid on the Forerunner keyship the Prophet of Truth brought for slipspace shards for the portal that would be needed. In Summer 2559, he, Minas, and Captain Zeretus would lead their teams to the keyship, only for surviving Covenant loyalists to ambush them - having survived seven years on the ship and lacking knowledge that their Covenant was now dead. However, the mission would still achieve its goal, despite Okro and Minas being the sole survivors of their respective teams. Once the portal from the Ark to Reach was established, Okro would be one of the few chosen to follow Atriox through it, becoming part of the Exodus Guard.
The next year, Okro would serve under Escharum during the occupation of Installation 07, being part of the Blind Lance of the Fifth Combat Element in the Banished's Bloodbrave. Yet his luck in survival would ultimately come to an end at the hands of the Master Chief, who would at some point become aware of Okro's High Value Target status and hunt him down.
Ernicka the Scar-Maker:
Debuted in Halo: Broken Circle
Living within 9th century BCE times, Ernicka would serve as the second in command to Ussa 'Xellus during the San'Shyuum-Sangheili war. At one point, helped lead trops against the San'Shyuum, repelling them from the Planet of Blue and Red. Whilst he believed the they would not attack from their ships - in fear of damaging Forerunner structures - Ussa would recognize that they indeed had a weapon they could fire to kill them while not causing damage. Ernicka followed orders to retreat and survived. Later, when the war ended, he would be amongst those that still distrusted the San'Shyuum and the newly formed Covenant. He would continue to aid Ussa when Covenant loyalists attempted to end his heresy and even correctly deduced there was a spy within their midst helping the Covenant. After killing the spy once revealed, he joined the others in leaving Sanghelios for a shield world dubbed the Refuge. Once there, Ernicka would assist Ussa in governing the Sangheili living there. At one point, Salus 'Crolon would approach and question the duo, saying things that Ernicka felt were treasonous, although Ussa would argue that 'Crolon was merely annoying. As colony-building continue, Ernicka would break up a fight between 'Crolon and young lovestruck Tersa 'Gunok, although was also impressed with the latter's courage. Later, he would have to arrest Tersa and his love Lnur 'Mol on suspicions they were planning a rebellion, but their innocence would be proven and the tables turned against the true rebels: 'Crolon and 'Drem. Ernicka would throw a burnblade into 'Drem's back when he tried to escape, then finished him off with decapitation. However, 'Crolon would escape execution and the shield world, going to inform the Covenant of the Refuge. With the threat of the Covenant arriving, Ernicka would reluctantly trust the shield world's monitor, Enduring Bias. In order to make the Covenant believe they all were dead, the shield world would be disassembled into fragments. Everyone survived by hiding in freight movers, which notably made Ernicka nauseous. For the rest of his life after, he would live in the fragmented habitats under Ussa's leadership, immortalized in sculptures (particularly with him battling 'Crolon) and in legend for centuries. A descendant of his - Tirk 'Surb - would come to serve as the head of Refuge Security during the year 2552.

Parg Vol:
Debuted in Halo 4: Spartan Ops
Born July 24th, 2481, on Malurok, he would serve as a field master within the Covenant military. Following the end of the war, his continued disdain for humanity led him to joining the Covenant remnant faction founded by his kin, Merg Vol. However, during the Battle of Draetheus V in 2554, Spartan Palmer would assassinate Merg, leading to the dissolution of the faction. Afterwards, he would dabble a bit in arms dealing and hit contracts before joining Jul 'Mdama's Covenant. He would take part in the Requiem Campaign as a commander, having a few encounters with Fireteam Crimson before they were finally able to assassinate him at The Gate.

Sangheili Bracket Round 3 Match 4
More info below:
Raia 'Mdama:
Debuted in Halo: Glasslands
The wife of Jul 'Mdama and the mother of Dural and Asum. During the Human-Covenant war, she would help maintain Bekan keep while her husband was away. When he returned, she shared in his concerns for the future but differed in subject matter - Jul worried what the humans' next move would be while she focused on how the Sangheili would carry on now that the war and the Covenant Empire as a whole was over. She showed a willingness to trade with Kig-Yar and recognized the damage that San'Shyuum's rule over them all had done. As Jul schemed behind her back, she herself had a feeling he was plotting against the Arbiter somehow.
Then, Jul suddenly went missing. Speaking with his friend Forze 'Mdama yielded no clues, so Raia decided to leave home and confront Avu Med 'Telcam - a man Jul had been working with in the days leading up to his disappearance. When he suggested the Arbiter might've taken him, she demanded to accompany the assault on Vadam state in order to check. She was aboard the Unflinching Resolve when it was shot down, surviving the crash landing on Vadam shore. Later, she and Forze would be tasked by 'Telcam to retrieve a human named "Philliss" (aka Professor Evan Philips) at Nes'alun keep, only for Kilo-Five to beat them there. However, upon informing 'Telcam, he said it was okay and to help Kilo-Five with repairs to their dropship Tart-Cart. After this, they returned to the rebel's camp and prepared for further bombardments on Vadam keep. Yet things would go awry once the UNSC Infinity arrived to assist the Arbiter, destroying Defender of Faith and the rebel ground forces. Raia would be among those attempting to retreat on Cleansing Truth to Laqil, only to meet her end when it was shot down by Swordsman - one of the Arbiter's ships.
When Jul finally returned home and learned of her death, he formed a new Covenant faction with the purpose of exacting grief-fueled revenge on humanity. Her eldest son Dural would similarly swear revenge on the Arbiter, becoming 'Telcam's apprentice due to 'Telcam's guilt over allowing Raia to come into danger.
Usze 'Taham:
Debuted in Halo 3
Born Oct. 31st, 2519, Usze was fathered by the famous swordsman Toha 'Sumai (although only knew him as an uncle that would act as a trainer) and born into a respected merchant family in Sumai keep.
