JJ - Six Weeks

So this update was supposed to be at one month but with moving it just kept getting postponed. I’ve finally had time to sit down and do this. As of now JJ is six weeks and four days old. I can’t believe he’s nearly seven weeks already!

Feeding

JJ has a fairly solid feeding regime. His first is at around 6:30am. He then feeds around every three hours until 10pm. Sometimes he feeds more often but we’re settling in a routine. In the last week or so he has been feeding a little more due to the head. At night he wakes around every two and half hours to feed. During the day he usually feeds for about 12-15 minutes and during the night he feeds for about 10 minutes per feed.

Sleeping

JJ sleeps around 12-16 hours out of a 24 period. After his feed at 6:30 he is usually awake for around an hour to an hour and a half. He then sleeps for up to three hours before waking for his next feed. He is usually awake for about two hours after this. He then feeds and goes back to sleep. In the afternoon his sleeping pattern varies a lot more. We try do bedtime around 7:30 but sometimes he won’t fall asleep for up to three hours. He no longer sleeps in the moses basket as he has out grown it. He now sleeps in the Monte Rockwell Bassinet. He had no problem switching over and has plenty of room to wriggle about and grow.

Growth and Development

JJ has just had his first little grow spurt. We’re not quite out of newborn babygros and onesies yet but I thin another week and we’ll be in 0-3 month babygros and onsies. We’ll have to go shopping I think! He’s up two pounds since his birth. He was 8lb 6oz at birth and now weighs in at 10lb 6oz. He’s my special big boy!

His neck is starting to grow stronger and he can hold his head up for four or five seconds which is great, especially during tummy time. Initially he just laid with his head to the side or rested on his chin now he can lift his head up for a short period of time.

We haven’t quite had his first proper smile yet but I’m sure we’ll get there soon. Anywhere up to twelve weeks is a normal age range. He kind of gives a funny smile when he’s pooping but it isn’t a proper smile. I can’t wait to see it. I just remember how happy I was when I saw Milena’s first proper smile.

His hands aren’t clenched very much now and is little legs are getting less hunched up everyday. Now his legs are almost straight we can see how much he’s growing. Please stay little baby!

Our baby boy is here!

Our little boy has arrived 17 days before his due date! We are so pleased that he is here. We’ve had lots of cuddles and kisses with our beautiful boy. He is simply perfect! We are both exhausted following the birth as it was rather long but we are all doing fine.

Length: 48.7cm

We have yet to decide on a name but we have a shortlist. We need to spend a little time with him before we decide. 

I will post the birth story soon. I really just want to enjoy my new baby boy and my little girl for now.

Off to Nana and Granddad’s plus What I Packed.

Early this morning we set off for Sean’s parents. We’re staying with them for four nights in their spare room. They live 300 miles away from us so it is a long drive there. We decided to travel early in the morning as there would be less traffic and the little ones would be less craggy. We’re making the trip as Sean’s parents haven’t met JJ yet. We decided to travel to them as they said we can stay in their spare room and Sean can see his brothers and sister. 

This was JJ’s first long-car ride and he did really well. He didn’t cry too much and slept a fair bit of the way. We did stop regularly so I could check on him properly, change him and feed him. We’ve made this trip several times with Milena. The first time we made the trip with her, she cried a lot of the way. I was sitting in the back with her but even seeing my face didn’t calm her. I was in the front this time but JJ coped a lot better than his sister. All babies are different. Milena was ok this time. She’s older now and she had teethers and small toys to play with. We had mirrors on the back of the seats facing the carriers so we could see them and make sure that they were ok and that Milena was doing anything dangerous with her toys.

She slept for the first hour and half then she woke up and was awake for several hours then fell asleep once more. She was awake for the last half an hour of the journey and her face lit up when she saw her Nana’s face. JJ slept for about two and half hours. We stopped around this time and I woke him up for a feed. He stayed awake for about an hour then nodded back off to sleep and slept for the rest of the journey.

After a six hour journey we finally arrived at Sean’s parents house. Their faces lit up when they saw us and their grandchildren. Sean’s sister Bella came running out and cooed over her niece and nephew. I’ll posts some pics of them together soon.

Bump Update

It’s been so long since I did one of these! I’ve got less than 9 weeks to go until baby number two arrives into family. So here we go!

How far along: 31 weeks and 5 days

Baby fruit size: Coconut

Symptoms: Braxton hicks but nothing else really.

Any cravings: Tasties coconut rings! So sweet, I recommend.

Anything making me nauseous: Nothing, I think we’re sort of past that.

Any stretchmarks: Yes two or three little ones but nothing major.

Maternity Clothes: Yes, they’re so comfy. I need them now, my bump is so big!

In or Out: On its way out.

Any movement: Yes all the time. My little boy is always on the move!

Baby Purchases This Week: We’ve purchased a car seat, we bought it from a really reputable online baby store. It arrived yesterday and we love it. Milena wanted to get in it and have a sleep!

Gender: A bouncing baby boy!

Best Moment: My baby shower. I don’t have the pics yet back but I’ve got some pics of the things were gifted.

My mum gifted us the Quinny Speedi for twins. We love it. We won’t be using for a while but it’s perfect. Another friend gifted us the Burts and Bee’s set for babies from milkden. We also recieved:

Banana Leaf Moses Basket from the together store. With this we can move him from room to room without waking him.

The 4Moms rockaroo from Angie Bambino Store, we got the Mamaroo for milena so with already love the 4moms brand.

Baby seat by Mamas and Papas from Lovely Baby

A crib soother

The Mundo Deluxe Car Seat from Nest Home @ the together store. It will be a while before we use that with him but we love the look of it so we’re going to purchase one for Milena.
