My first vs latest attempt in drawing Himiko's face
Someone said that drawing one character for long results in more of your headcanons reflecting in the way you do it and I can't agree more haha
She looks more and more like my oc with each art (still scrunkly though, I like it)
Been doing more art for my girl and planning some cool stuff to analyze too I never want my hyperfixation to end (´ω`)

Dumb things I think about regularly, in a Soul Eater x MHA crossover Crona would be absolutely fucking besties with Toga.
My reason being, Crona has a mcfucking type of person he likes especially and that is Blonde woman. He got his momma medusa a blonde woman, he got Marie his surrogate mother figure and Maka his bestie a blonde girlie. What do they also have in common? They paid attention to him, medusa though negligent was his primary care giver, Maka extended a hand of friendship and Marie really cared about Crona during his dwma arc.
You're telling me that Medusa wouldn't look at LOV and go yea they look disposable in the meantime they know this world they're evil I'll use them as needed? She'd absolutely plot to manipulate use and leave them to take the fall I'm just not smart enough to talk about the specific how's and what she'd do. It also gives her somewhere to leave Crona when she doesn't wanna deal with him as she's doing her own thing cause if Soul Eater people just appeared in the mha world she'd have lost her base so can't keep him there.
Can you look me in the eye and tell me Toga wouldn't look at this gender ambiguous twink with pink purple hair in a dress and wouldn't go "A girrrllllll, a bestieeee" like fucking on sight she'd see Crona immediately go that's my new bestie yes girlie I'm gonna do your hair it's a fucking mess and paint your nails. Of course Crona actual gender is lmao who knows and canonically a they them though I tend to see them as a boy, but I don't think Toga would give a shit honorary girl status.
She'd essentially kinda play the Maka role narratively but evil lmao bonding with Crona and Crona would in turn be soft that's a friend and likely protective of Toga like he is Maka canonically and now probably impossible to redeem cause Toga would genuinely care about him I think. And oop loyalty to LOV. And like I think the others would like him even if he's weird™️ not even mentioning Ragnarok. They'd probably be to some level sickened by what medusa did I mean yikes melting someone down and fusing them into someone's blood, also raising your child as a living weapon to do your bidding for a goal you want to achieve stripping said child of really any personality means to combat that is urg I think they'd hate it sure they're evil but like they've kinda chosen fallen into that line of work Crona really was forced and molded into it since birth.
This is purely because I want Crona to become this badass as I think he'd really be able to grow into one with LOV and cause I think he should get a cool outfit and confidence and carry Toga around. I mean I think Dabi would absolutely mercilessly roast him over his dress robe and be like nah you look stupid let's get you some proper fucking clothes trousers and so many belts lmao. I have an agenda lmao this is just fun for me. If anyone's also had this thought and made this post I'm sorry lmao

Do you feel Overhaul with his Yakuza and the Meta Liberation Army make better Villians then the LOV.
Also do you think they were more competent in their goals compared to the LOV.
Well let's look at each of them.
Overhaul wanted to get rid of quirks and bring the Yakuza back into power for the boss that he had put into a coma. He committed horrible crimes in pursuit of this goal, but he did successfully find a way to remove quirks from people under the power of his own organization.
So he was absolutely the most competent, and I wonder how he would act if he found out that Midoriya was originally quirkless. It also could've been really cool to see like, Looking to the Future(heroes and quirks) vs Living in the Past(No quirks and the golden age of the Yakuza)
The MLA were quirk-supremacy, might makes right, kind of people, and that's pretty much just the world's view at large taken to the extreme. The idea of the original founder wanting free quirk use in a time where everyone was terrified of them could've been a cool theme to explore, instead they folded to a group of exactly six people. Gigantomachia also showed up, but the end result would've been the same if he hadn't.
Incompetent. Maybe thematically interesting. Most of their leaders don't even have powerful quirks of their own, they're only in charge because of the influence/money they have. Automatically proving that their own philosophy of quirk supremacy is meaningless.
The League of Villains overall, just wanted to do whatever they want and be free from consequences. Shigaraki wants to destroy things. Dabi wants to kill Endeavor and whoever else he chooses. Toga wants people's blood(consent optional). Compress was just a thief that wanted to Robin Hood-style deal with corruption, and ended up not doing anything like that. Twice just wanted somewhere to be accepted, he's the exception. Spinner was a victim of discrimination that jumped in the first ideological extreme that popped out at him. Their individual goals all turn into "tear everything down and leave nothing(except maybe the stuff we like)."
The League was also pretty incompetent. Nearly all of their successes were built off of what All for One had built. Doctor Ujiko and the nomu, Gigantomachia, hell, even Kurogiri. The League didn't do shit by themselves, but somehow they were the main villains of the series.

My gosh the volume 39 cover goes so hard (manga spoilers ahead).
Tumblr media
(Image credit goes to Kohei Horikoshi, Shonen Jump, and anyone else involved).
I was really hoping for a solo Ochako cover for this volume, but this is still great.
Shoto, Ochako, and All Might are all wrapping up their arcs in this volume, so it makes sense.
Three things stand out to me - the looks on their faces, the flag behind them, and the color they're wearing.
Ochako has a look of hope on her face. She is desperate to save all she can (including a castoff like Toga) and bring harmony back to the world. All Might looks like an absolute madman like he did at the end of 402. He is ready to end All for One's reign on the world. Shoto has a look of solemnness because of the tragedy of his family. His whole family was abused by his father and caused Touya to go off and do the dastardly deeds he did. All of those stand out so beautifully in this cover.
For the flag, many have been drawing their own interpretations. I found a user on Twitter / X by the name of Caio (Foreverheroics) that pointed out that it seems to be the French flag, but in reverse. You can see the link here.
The French flag's colors represent three different things. Red means "for the people," which Ochako continuously stands for. She is someone who has spoken volumes about the sacredness of human life. She realized that more when she saw Toga suffering underneath her cold exterior. She does all she can to help people. That's all she wants to do as a hero.
Blue symbolizes nobility, which is based on Shoto coming from a rich family. Despite all the wealth in the world, the Todoroki's were a family caught in the patriarch's quest for heroic supremacy.
White is the King that unifies both together. All Might is the Symbol of Peace whose arc (and maybe his life?) is coming to an end. He has long been seen in hero society as the King that saves everyone with a smile. He keeps the world at rest knowing they have him in their corner.
This all segues into my third point. The characters are all wearing green. It characterizes a willingness to never surrender.
Shoto will not relinquish his fight with Touya. He desires his family to be restored to a state they have never seen before. The family has been long marked by suffering and tears, but he is willing to see it now marked by joy and laughter.
Ochako, despite a severe wound to the stomach, will not give up until she helps Toga see the value in herself as a human being. Toga was outcast by her parents and society as being weird for her blood quirk. Ochako sees her as a human just like the rest who needs a loving, supportive friend.
All Might will not stop at anything until his greatest nemesis has met his end. Long has he been plagued by the fact he hasn't been defeated. He wants to do one more act as the Symbol of Peace and restore Japan after much bloodshed and destruction.
An interesting side note - under Ochako is something that looks like Toga's syringes, and under Shoto is an engine that symbolizes Ida.
Not to mention Ochako's boots are so cool!
So much to love from this cover. Hori cooked!

so when giving candy to trick or treaters yesterday there were these 3 costumes that really stuck with me: I don't know if they were actually like trick or treating together but they appeared to be: Putting aside the lack of parental supervision to let your maybe 11 at the most year old watch nonetheless dress up as characters from less than age appropriate media: the array of characters was just: so funny to me
like it was just such a random combo??? and coincidentally 2/3 happened to be characters i am fond of, (the 3rd being spiderman who gets a pass on my dc>marvel supremacy, tbh i prefer just the spider part but anyway) idk it stuck with me though so now I decided to draw them together
peters the babysitter responsible one that has morals: toga is def being babysat by peter but she is also the 'cooler' babysitter for cartman, together they are menances to society and spiderman keeps them in check

Wait wait wait if spinaraki is one of three pillars what are the other two
(Re: my tags on this post.)
Ahahaha, well, actually, what I was referring to there was my quip about betting on friendship in a Shonen Jump manga—one of the three pillars of Shonen Jump:
Tumblr media
If you google those three terms + Shonen Jump, you can find more in-depth discussion, but basically, they're the themes that manga serialized in SJ generally aim for, not necessarily because it's a strict editorial mandate or anything, so much as because those are just viewed as the most key themes that make a Shonen Jump manga—well, a Shonen Jump manga. This sense of identity accounts for a lot of the traits of the “Shonen Jump main character” archetype, as well as the expected presence of “nakama”-type characters, and plenty of other tropes that you might think of as being synonymous with shonen manga in general.
The importance of this ethos factors into some of my frustrations with Deku, actually. While he had to put in lots and lots of hard work in the early parts of the manga, since acclimating to OFA, there’s been considerably less Effort going into his victories.  It’s part of the conflict between his relationship with his classmates and the secrecy All Might demands, too, a tension that comes to a head in the Deku vs. 1-A fight, but that doesn't really continue on to a better place, I don't think.
If you look at where the three tenets are in that fight, it’s clear from the beginning who’s going to win.  Deku might be putting in Effort, but so are the rest of the kids, and it’s really obvious where the Power of Friendship is between the kid trying fiercely to go it alone vs. nineteen kids working together for a single goal and with the value of their bonds burning in their hearts.  Effort + Friendship = Victory, see?
Even after having proven the supremacy of friendship-based teamwork, though, the characters in-universe (especially the adults) continue putting Deku on this pedestal as the character who'll solve their Shigaraki problem and the kids just kind of—let this happen.
Well, I could elaborate on that more, but EH. That's not why I nor you are here. So to refocus, one of the things that makes the League of Villains so interesting and unique as SJ villains go is how they interact with the three pillars. Villains don't, as a general rule! A key part of having protagonists that express Friendship, Effort and Victory is contrasting them against villains who express the opposite of those things. And, indeed, many villains in BNHA work in exactly that way: AFO has to work for very little, Overhaul is very much not here to make friends (though some of his minions are a different story; the trash trio are very interesting in this context), and so on.
The League, however, is different. That’s most clear in the My Villain Academia arc, with Shigaraki being emblematic of Effort, with hints of Friendship here and there, Spinner’s Friendship taking the form of devotion that powers his Efforts, and Twice being a beacon of both.  Mr. Compress’s faith and self-sacrifice (Friendship+Effort) are instrumental in the villains’ escape from Jakku.  Toga’s grief over losing Twice (Friendship) is pivotal in her endgame arc.  Dabi is pretty bad at the Friendship angle (it’s what most clearly sets him apart from the rest of the League), but he’s a monster when it comes to Effort, pushing through a lifetime of pain because giving up might as well mean dying (and dying absolutely means giving up).
Looking more closely at Spinner and Shigaraki, you can read large chunks of their character arcs through this lens.
Shigaraki starts the story as a cranky and entitled manchild, unpleasantly demanding towards the few people he’s close to; he also bails on USJ once the odds turn against him.  Having thus no Friendship to speak of and being disinclined to bother with Effort, of course he can’t obtain Victory.  His lack of determination is one of the things Deku critiques in their mall encounter; during the training camp, Kurogiri asks if he views the Vanguard Action Squad as merely pawns.  Losing AFO at Kamino deprives Shigaraki of his reset button, meaning he will need to put in more Effort to secure Victory, since there will be no one around to mitigate his defeats anymore.
In the Hassaikai arc, we see him develop an understanding of his team and begin to clarify his ideology, demonstratively opening up to Toga and Twice, and trusting in their Friendship and Effort as the basis of the plan that culminates in the highway attack.  A few months later, Gigantomachia pushes him to extremes like never before, with the place of belonging he offered Twice in particular being key in the League overcoming the MLA.
This arc of finding comrades (Friendship) and discovering the beliefs he’s willing to fight for (Effort) delivers him to a decisive victory (you get the gist) at Deika.
This arc is also why I find the possession plot so frustrating and underwhelming—Shigaraki being subjugated by All For One, his friends scattered and used, feels violently at odds with the way Shigaraki engaged with the three tenets up to this point.  Like, why did we even spend so much time on Shigaraki’s Efforts and Friendships if him spending two years and 85 chapters of the climax as a damsel thanks to AFO is all it was going to amount to?  So I’m very much hoping him taking back control will get us in a better spot going forward, even if I’m skeptical that it’ll be able to wholly undo the damage.
As to Spinner, his arc begins with him being inspired by Stain’s willingness to strive even when he’s one man against the whole world; this admiration of Effort is what leads Spinner to the League, while his sense that his Effort is being wasted is what drives his confrontation with Shigaraki in Chapter 220.  He’s struck to empathy after hearing Shigaraki speak of being empty, however, and seeing Shigaraki’s Efforts lead to Victory in Deika solidifies his loyalty (Friendship). That keen understanding of Shigaraki leads to him being able to wake Shigaraki at Jakku, avoiding a defeat if not securing a victory; his enduring loyalty then leads him into AFO’s hands.
In the last scene we’ve gotten of him thus far, all three tenets are on display: his dedication to Shigaraki drives him to power through heroic opposition and his own fragmenting mind to wake Kurogiri with a plea that’s based in his love of Shigaraki and the League; Kurogiri being woken is directly responsible for Shigaraki being returned to full power just as he also returns to his own mind.
Friendship mixed with Effort leads to Victory—that progression is what I was specifically thinking about when I said I felt pretty good about betting on Friendship in a Shonen Jump comic, and made the quippy tag about the three pillars.
That's the serious answer. See here for the funny/fannish one.

No, Ochako is not the worst female character in history, that's dumb
I mean what I said. The amount of hate Ochako gets is frankly stupid.
“Oh, buh buh buh, but she didn’t beat Bakugo at the Sports Festival — “ Yeah, and it wasn’t because Ochako’s a girl and Bakugo’s a guy, it’s because Bakugo’s the ace of the whole class. Like it really is just down to Bakugo or Todoroki, and Bakugo beat Todoroki at the Sports Festival. Put Iida in the ring with Bakugo and he’d go down just as hard. Midoriya lost to Bakugo when they fought after the Hero License Exams, and at the time of the Sports Festival, Midoriya didn’t even have Full Cowling.
Like people who claim Horikoshi made Ochako lose because he’s a misogynist need to pull their heads out of their asses and remember that Bakugo is the best combatant in the class that teaches kids to be superheroes and fight crime. Even he acknowledges that if he didn’t take the fight as seriously as he did, Ochako could have taken it.
Do you actually remember that, or are you so cornfed off of social media that your brain’s rotted through the bottom of your skull? The whole crowd is jeering at Bakugo because he didn’t let the cute girl win. He took Ochako seriously as an opponent and showed respect to her by not holding back. To have done otherwise would have been to dismiss her conviction and all the hard work she’d been putting in alongside everyone else. They’re classmates, but they’re competing with each other, too. And it would have been embarrassing to win because the ace of the class took pity on you and folded. Those people who were saying Bakugo should have won were the ones being sexist, because they weren’t taking Ochako seriously. All they saw was a cute face and thought she should get to coast by without being challenged, and that’s sexism.
How about the fact that Ochako’s motivation is to earn money so she can take care of her parents? Like a fundamental part of character writing is to give female characters motivations outside of those originating from their male counterparts. Ochako wants to give back to her parents and is willing to work her ass off to do it. But that never gets brought up.
Or how about the amount of personality she shows? People try to reduce Ochako to some flower on the wall girly-girl even though that’s never been the whole story. Yeah, she has a lot of femininity, she likes pink things. She’s also so used to being poor that she almost seems to take pride in how much she can endure living on a budget, and gets completely blown away at seeing how rich people (or people with a middle class income) get to live. And she’s also a weirdo who talks about “The fated battle between men” or gets hyper pumped up to the point it’s kind of intimidating, about the Sports Festival and after learning self-defense under Gunhead.
And yeah, it’s convenient how often people forget the fact that she identified her weakness in close combat after fighting Bakugo and specifically started learning self-defense martial arts in order to make up for that weakness. She repeatedly uses techniques for safely disarming knife wielding opponents and using judo throws to drop people throughout her appearances in the rest of the series.
People will say, “Oh, but after that, all she cares about is Deku!” No it isn’t, you moron! After Night Eye dies, she’s wracked with guilt, feeling like she should have done more to rescue him. She’s extremely motivated to use her Quirk to rescue people during that portion of the Hero License Exams, since she realized how much good she can do with it, and she continues to apply that during the kickoff to the war arc when the city was left in ruins from Shigaraki and Gigantomachia’s rampage. After Class 1-A brings Deku home to U.A. and Ochako quells the crowd, her arc becomes dominated by atoning for how she rejected Toga without listening to her and putting active compassion into practice.
I believe with all my heart in the supremacy of Togachako, but you know what? Acting like it’s insidious and harmful to depict a girl liking a boy is stupid. Do I want more same-sex pairings? More than you’ll ever know. However, acting like Ochako’s a failure of a character because there’s a boy she likes is stupid. You’re stupid if you believe in that.
And as a matter of fact, I’ll do you one better. Not only does the romance subplot not ruin Ochako’s character, it’s a really well-handled one. Deku ends up getting puppy love when they first meet because he’s a reclusive nerd who’s never talked to a girl outside of “Hey, you, move” and he’s overwhelmed. Then he saves Ochako (and Ochako saves him) during the entrance exam, and going into the Sports Festival, he sees the conviction she has and his very immature, superficial crush grows into one that’s much more informed and based on respect.
This goes both ways. Ochako starts out just seeing Deku as a friend, but after seeing how hard he tries in everything he does, she starts to admire him. Little by little, by and by, this grows into affection and into love. He inspires her to try harder, and she inspires him, too. They start to bring out the best in each other even though they’re a couple of dorks who struggle to open up about these things to each other.
If you call this bad romance writing, then you don’t understand how to write romance. It’s all about the reasons why characters are drawn together, seeing them develop in parallel. All that’s missing is actually getting to see them in a developing relationship, and that’s a problem, yeah, but it’s a problem in 90% of every romance manga. You never get to see the relationship, only the will they-won’t they until the relationship is formed right at the ending.
You wanna see a real shitter of a romance subplot? Here, I’ll show you how to write a real shitter of a romance subplot.
First step, be Masashi Kishimoto. Next, write a female character who only has eyes for her love interest because he’s handsome and have her love interest not even acknowledge her. Have the female character say something stupid and hurtful about another character, then have her love interest express open animosity towards her for saying that. Have her just spin her wheels in the background for a hundred chapters while the men fight, make some half-assed attempts at putting her on equal footing that never amount to anything, have her love interest literally fucking try to kill her and never even apologize for it, have her be obsessed with getting him back anyway, have her tell the main character who’s actually into her that she loves him when she actually doesn’t and is just going through what a middle aged Japanese man thinks women go through in situations like this, and then reward her with getting married to the guy who tried to murder her and never apologized, and then have it turn out that he’s never around for her or her daughter and she just stays at home hoping he’ll come in to acknowledge his own family exists.
Thanks for letting me get that out of my system!
