ToA daemon AU where humans have daemons but gods dont. Gods arenât people and donât have souls. They still have animals which are associated with them, but theyâre just symbols.Â
Apollo, as Lester, gets a daemon for the first time. He didnât have a daemon for his previous human punishments since he was a god in mortal form - now he is a full mortal.Â
At first he thinks the unbearable pain in his chest is just the broken ribs from his free-fall from Olympus. After the fight with the muggers and his introduction to Meg, he finds he canât walk ten steps from the dumpster he landed in without collapsing.Â
Meg rolls her eyes at his utter bafflement as he squawks about being on the brink of death. She and her small hare daemon cast their gazes about the alley, then in the dumpster. She reaches in and pokes something, and Apollo gags in pain. Meg seems satisfied, and announces that he canât leave because his daemon is stuck in the dumpster. Apollo snaps that he doesnât have a daemon, he is a god! Gods are self-sustaining, they do not rely on puny- ack! Meg had poked the thing again.
Frustrated, Apollo pulls himself up to investigate and explain to this silly mortal why whatever-it-is in the dumpster cannot be his daemon. Then he sees it.Â
Itâs a tiny white mouse. Suddenly he notices the pain in his chest is not just broken bones, but a distinct emptiness. Something is missing. As soon as he locked eyes with the mouse, he knew that it was supposed to be filling that hole.Â
Apollo had been associated with mice for some millennia. He had been called Apollo Sminthius since before the siege of Troy; Lord of Mice. They were useful for spreading plagues, and rather cute, but not something heâd ever thought of as similar to him. He was no mouse! He was a mighty lion, a sweeping falcon! He was a god, the very top of the food chain! He was no ones prey!Â
But there it was. A tiny, insignificant creature that looked as if it belonged in the dumpster. Not unlike Lester Papadopoulos. Perhaps Apollo was a great dragon or a fearsome wolf, but he supposed, with crushing disappointment, that Lester was about as close to a mouse as any living being could get.Â

Random thoughts for a Tales of Arcadia Daemon AU:
Both humans and trolls have daemons. Troll daemons can either be magical creatures, or they can be completely nocturnal or cave-dwelling animals. It is considered extremely unlucky for a trollâs daemon to settle as a cat.
Whenever the trollhunter transforms, their daemon gains armor as well.
Changelings usually have the same animal no matter what form they take. For example, Strickler has a barn owl.
The daemons of changeling polymorphs never fully settle.
In the process of becoming a half-troll, Jim gets separated from his daemon.
Akiridions do not have daemons because they have life cores instead. Aja, Krel, and Varvatos have Blanks that function as daemons so that they can blend in with humans.
Both Ricky and Lucy have holographic sheep daemons. Yes, this is a reference to Dolly.
Wizards are rare because, while training as a wizard, it is an unfortunately common occurrence to separate from oneâs daemon, especially if the wizard has been pushing themself too hard. Many fledgling wizards have died due to this.
Separation is required as a prerequisite to possession. Claire got separated from her daemon while making the giant portal.
A daemon that has survived separation from their wizard is often called a familiar. A familiar can travel long distances from their wizard, but is subject to the other constraints of a person-daemon pair. Mainly, a familiar would sleep/feel pain/become drugged if the wizard falls asleep, and when the wizard dies the familiar dies and vice versa (unless dark magic is used).
The daemon of the Lady of the Lake always manifests as a waterfowl.
Archie is not Douxieâs familiar, because Archie is not Douxieâs daemon. Douxieâs daemon was a bat named Mordred; Archieâs human was Douxieâs father King Arthur. Douxie was forcibly separated from his daemon moments before Douxieâs possession, which killed Mordred. While possessed, Douxie killed Arthur but was able to use a desperate act of dark magic to save Archie. The two of them agreed to act like a normal human-daemon pair, because doing otherwise can be cause for suspicion. This is revealed to everyone else when Douxie is knocked out and Archie remains conscious.

Writing Progress
For the longest time, I did a pretty good job at âonly have one serious WIP at a time,â and I knew a lot of other authors spawned new AUs all the time but I couldnât see myself being one of them, I was much more determined to shove new ideas onto the backburner until they fizzled into nothing, never to see the light of day.
And now the shoe is on the other foot, and though Iâm not sure how I got here, I canât say I regret it ;P
So, without further ado:
Donât Listen to Kafka: This is still a Work in Progress, I SWEAR. First chapter of the next installment is about 70% done, but Iâm gonna need a lot more buffer before Iâm ready to post, and I also still have to decide whether a âGet Enrique out the Darklandsâ plot should be worked in here, or saved for later. Quite the conundrum, given how many other events and complicated plot threads are predicated on it, and itâs honestly really daunting to try to figure out how to deal with Gunmar once and for all. On the flipside, given that rescuing Enrique drives so much of the plot once Bular is killed, it feels like leaving the story unfinished to leave him in the Darklands. Of course, if my paralyzing indecision and writerâs block prevents me from finishing the story, then the story is still unfinished but in a much more literal way...
North Salem Possibilities: I had some ideas for what happns next, but havenât fleshed much out. Truthfully, Iâve sort of fallen out of the phandom once again, but if the past (*checks calendar*) 13 years of falling in and out of this fandom is any indication, I will definitely come back around someday
Through Myself and Back Again: The next chapter is half done! Or possiby itâs 90% done because I am considering splitting it in two. I havenât touched it since December, though (see above) and what I have got done needs a rewrite, since I realized I was making it more complicated for myself than it needed to be. Looking forward to writing Samâs POV, and, later, introducing Jazzâs daemon. Possibly some of my ideas will just be written up as meta rather than fic chapters, like dealing with Vladâs whole deal.
I Was a Teenage Troll: Iâve got bits and pieces written, but donât expect an update anytime soon. This one is very much on the backburner, and whenever I do get a surge of ToA inspiration, I try to direct that towards DLtK, so yeah. Still really love this AU!
In Loco Parentis: So I havenât even starting posting this one yet, but if youâre wondering where all my current energies are being invested, this is it. This is the thing that is The Most Exciting Thing to my brain right now, a crossover between Forever and Daredevil that began with two unrelated thoughts: 1. What if Henry Morgan adopted more kids than just Abe? At least as often as Bruce Wayne, spread out over decades - heâd probably be a grandfather several times over, can you imagine the family reunions? and 2. Forever is a police procedural and like all procedurals they take a very loose approach to due process and fourth amendment rights, including treating âlawyering upâ as a confession of guilt/worst possible roadblock to an investigation, instead of, you know, a constitutional right and good idea all-around. Gosh Iâd love to drop a competent defense attorney like Matt Murdock on their heads and take them down a peg.
I am so deep down this rabbit hole that I swore I wasnât going to go down, lol. Thereâs so many parallels to draw - but also points of delicious conflict. Like Henry and Matt are both stubborn men who hold strongly to their moral codes, and are willing to lay down their lives to help complete strangers, but where Henry holds to his oaths to First Do No Harm as much as he possibly can, the line Matt is unwilling to cross is Thou Shalt Not Kill, leaving a lot of grievous bodily harm still on the table. Also they were both at one point locked in the back of a New York taxi that was driven into the river in order to drown them in a plot orchestrated by their nemesis, which is a weirdly specific coincidence.

YESS @kizitsune
I think the initial thoughts of Apollo and the demigods is that his daemon is a mouse (derogatory) bc itâs the most like Lester (derogatory) so thereâs the general idea of a small, insignificant and filthy creature who easily dies and so it cowers and squeaks and itâs prey to pretty much everything (apollo=mouse, python=snake symbolism that Apollo acknowledges and DOES NOT like the implications of) but then as Apollo grows, the association with mice becomes more positive and accurate to what the mouse actually is rather than face value stereotypes. Cuz by then Lester is viciously fighting and scratching and kicking and punching his way through ToN and mouse daemon is doing her fair share and itâs suddenly like huh. Mouse daemon
