How OnlyOneOf portrayed queer relationships and dynamics in libidO, w a hint of good olâ yearning
(disclaimer: this strictly about the mv and in no way Iâm implying these dynamics are translated to real life and their friendships if u suggest that ill kick you, donât ship real ppl romantically pls)
The storyline of Instinct pt. 1 tell us this album is focused on self-discovery and how young people repress their âurgesâ, but the way all three subplots play with this concept is super fascinating!
The KB/Yoojung situation (which is my favorite subplot!!): From my point of view, Yoojung and KB show a relationship that is just blossoming. The song starts with tying up Yoojungâs hands, he is being contained, and his lyrics are literally âIâm attracted for no reasonâ, now I looked up other translations besides the original and it also has to do with being âpulledâ, like Yoojung is being pulled into this relationship for âno reasonâ, he thinks he needs one to fall in love with another man. Rationalizing your feelings is a way to separate yourself from them. Therefore, Yoojung plays the more hesitant part, he overthinks, his super ego policing strongly what he feels.
On the other hand, KB is seen initiating most of the physical contact between them, and he does it in a way that makes it easy for Yoojung to pull back if he doesnât want it. KB is also always at least an arm away, inside a comfortable space for Yoojung to reach for him if he wants to. In their first scene of close contact, Yoojung is the one laying his head on KBâs shoulder, and he keeps control of their closeness throughout the whole video, despite KB breaking it with the soft touches we see, such as fixing Yoojungâs hair or putting his hand on his shoulder in the beach scene. And all this gentle-ness contrasts so well, bc we also see KBâs character initiating contact with others! He pulls Junji for a hug when both of them are shirtless and he does it so nonchalantly! Itâs obvious he is okay with /more/, but he respects Yoojungâs boundaries and never pushes.
The scooter scene is great, bc we can see Yoojung hugging and pressing their thighs and putting his hands in the air, he feels more carefree, he was able to get past his own inhibitions and itâs so great to see.
So Yoojung and KB's is like a first relationship: you are stepping on eggshells, you donât know what youâre doing or looking for. A lot of queer people start dating into adulthood, and even with previous âstraightâ dating experience, everything is so incredibly new! And itâs great but also anxiety inducing and frustrating.
Then, thereâs Rie and Junji. A thing I found incredibly interesting is that in every scene of them (except two) theyâre already in contact. In the car theyâre holding hands, and when theyâre hugging and eating lollipops, and back to back in the basketball court, we donât know who started it, but it doesnât matter because Junji and Rie are equals and stand on the same ground of mutual love, respect and experience, theyâre having fun and smiling at one another, even when theyâre playing basketball face to face, their eyes are on each other and its playful and great. Rie has one of the best lyrics in the song that is âI trust youand I accept itâ. Junji and Rie donât need to fight their instincts, really, because they know everything is reciprocated and their libido (not as in sexual drive but as in life energy) is matched in the other, they have trust over everything else, and this can also be shown in the only scene where Rie lays his head on Junjiâs back, heâs supporting himself on his partner and Junji accepts it because relationships arenât only fun but also healing and giving someone a place to rest. And Junji does his part and bandages Rieâs wounds, which @henlex pointed out as a Achilles and Patroclus reference, being these basically the top tier of gay love and companionship, when Patroclus died (represented by Rie), Achilles dies avenging him, asking for their ashes to be mixed so they could be forever one. So yeah, letâs yearn for something like this gays.
Finally, the trio. Theyâre the first ones to have their solo scenes, and you can see Love in the bathtub, he is naked and exposed, playing with some rosemary leaves (yeah I went to someone and asked them if they recognised the plant leave me alone). Rosemary used to be given to Aphrodite bc it was used as an aphrodisiac. It also represents fidelity. Yeah. So Love is playing with fidelity, basically. Many thoughts were thought.
Then, Nine and Mill are a continuous contrast throughout the mv. While Nine is inside and laying on the floor, cozy and reading, Mill stands outside in the garden looking at the window. Iâve said it before but I think itâs really important the way Millâs character portrays one of the harsher parts of queerness that is that âother-nessâ. Youâre just an observant, and you want in and to be yourself with your friends and participate in those rituals, but something inside you doesnât allow you to. In here, though, is not just âI want to identify with my straight friendsâ but âI want to be free like these other gays, why canât I do it?â.
Nine and Loveâs relationship doesnât really show a lot of romantic moments, in fact, I canât really think about something between them that was, intimate and sensual? yes, but not romantic. Which is completely okay. Sex is not something bad, and gay sex is constantly demonized. Casual sex is okay and sex with friends and whatever, as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, sex is okay. So to me, Love and Nine are friends, the arm around the neck seemed casual and natural, theyâre comfortable with each other, and theyâre also comfortable with mill, as shown in the creek scene. They didnât mind the audience (yeah this sounds kinky ik), both nine and love are pushing the boundaries, unlike kb. But pushing isnât always wrong, per se.
Nine starts with the lyrics âleave it, libido, weâre like roots (âŠ) mixing together with no rulesâ, while Love sings âdonât suppress it just accept itâ. Both nine and love are clear with their intentions and instincts, their subconscious is not their enemy in any way, since both of them accept the relationship they have.
Meanwhile, Mill battles with his libido, but itâs not like Yoojung who has a partner that actually loves him, if Mill takes the chance and jumps, he doesnât know where he is going to land. In the whole video, not even once Mill touches someone else, even if he desperately wants to (Yongsoo did a great acting work Iâm still so amazed!!). The yearning and pining over Love, who pulls him in and gazes at him, is such a good concept, because even if Love is giving him all the signals that there is (he is with another boy openly, allows close contact and shows himself in front of mill), Mill will still doubt himself and what he is doing. Hesitation and all, he takes a leap of faith in that one scene where he approaches Nine and Love, and keeps eye contact.
Now here is where the controversial crotch grabbing scene comes, and both Love and Nine sing. They say theyâre walking over shallow water, so itâs not risky, theyâre not gonna drown, and thereâs no one around and they just âkeep walkingâ. They do their thing with no care of what others may think. But also, Nine asks âwhat you need?â And âwhy canât you see the light over there?â now, maybe after the whole no compromises he did catch feelings for Love, but Love, playing with fidelity as previously stated, answers âIâm gonna go where I feel like goingâ.
And then we have Millâs rap. He talks about how this âexperienceâ canât be compared to anything else but itâs an experiment. Now I know a thing or two about downplaying queer experiences, it isnât unusual for gay ppl to look at things our younger selves did and think âhow did I even passed as straight?â. Mill, even after saying it was just this experiment, says âyouâre already putting a period, that doesnât end thingsâ. So, my guess, since after that we donât see them directly interacting unlike the other couples, is that it all fell apart. Love, having the upper hand in the whole dynamic, didnât have actual romantic feelings for any of the other boys, and he left them hanging.
While a bit heartbreaking, I think itâs important to point out that queer relationships are just like straight ones, and sometimes they end up in ruins, and itâs okay and its part of growing and discovering oneself!
So yeah, thatâs my interpretation. This is like 1500 words. A whole essay. Hyperfixation is a bitch. I need a girlfriend.

Hi!! I donât know if youâre doing requests rn but can you do a scenario with Kirishima, midoriya, Bakugou and todoroki learning dance moves with their s/o?? (The woah, milly rock, driving the boat, etc.)
 GIRRLLLLLLLÂ
my first ask!!!! ayyeeeeee, what it do babyyyyy
k, iâm done but thank you sm for asking! and for future reference, iâm open for scenarios/imagines/anything lmao
i hope you like it!Â
Characters: Kirishima, Midoryia, Bakugo, and Todorkoki
Warnings: a serious case of fucking it up (ass throwing as well??)
PG-13Â
yâall, i couldnât help myself hehe
A/N: the gag is, i was literally just turning up to my good sis Megan Thee Stallion and Rico Nasty so this should be fun
Kirishima Eijrou:
the best hype man and dont @ me on it
It was after hours and, outside of U.A., the night was quite peaceful, for the most part. Most were tucked in their bed, fast asleep, but some of the young future heroes of Japan were wide awake. That included you and Kirishima.Â
You spent the night showing him some of your favorite Western music videos. He recognized some of the long-time globally famous ones like BeyoncĂ©, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna (who you both had a crush on). You had tried showing him the moves to Single Ladies and Super Bass, but he couldnât quite get.Â
âCâmonnn, just jut your hip out more,â he laughed.
Kirishima made a face before dramatically sticking his hind up. You punched his arm to which he broke out in laughter.Â
âAhh, Iâm just hopeless,â he shrugged.
You rolled your eyes. âNo, no! You got the shoot, but you have to know more. Thereâs gotta be something.â
âWhat about him?â
You looked at the video suggestion he motioned towards, and your brows shot up in excitement.
âDaBaby! Of course!â
âDaBaby?â
âIâm about to change your life.â
It only took one watch for Kirishima to pick up on the DaBaby shoulder, BOP dance, and fist pound. He was a natural and went hard on it.Â
*and his muscles looked real nice all flexed like that but thatâs besides the point~*Â
You two spent the late hours running through all his Albums and EPs, dancing and hyping one another up. It was so fun that you two ended up having to take a shower because of how sweaty yâall were.Â
The fist to thigh pound was now you twoâs celebratory dance each time one of you made an accomplishment.
You both passed a test?
DaBaby.
Won a team competition?
DaBaby.
Made it through a battle alive?
DaBaby.
Midoryia Izuku:
iâm sorry but itâs like cannon this boi cant dance, but bless his heart, he really tries
You shouldâve just sat down and ate your food, but, of course, you didnât care about priorities when it came to tiktok. (just bear with me yâall)
It was an unhealthy obsession you wouldnât admit to. You spent hours on it. Ochako had gotten you hooked on after she kept sending you tiktok dances to learn with the girls. It was fun though, especially since dancing was something you loved to do. You still kept up with your grades, so there wasnât much harm in it.
But then, you made a mistake.
You were eating lunch with your boyfriend and watching a tiktok Momo had sent in your groupchat. The two girls in the video were dancing before they hit the woah on the beat drop.Â
Izuku heard the music and looked over at what you were watching.Â
âWhatâs that?â he asked.
âOh, itâs these two girls dancing. Theyâre really good!â
You showed him the video and it was like heâs found his lifeâs purpose.
âW-what was that? At the end!?âÂ
âUhh, itâs called the woah?â
âDo you know how to do it?â
âYeahââ
âTeach me!â
So you spent the lunch period teaching him the move. It wasnât very complicated, but you found that he had no sense of rhythm and flow. It took a couple YouTube tutorials and then some for him to decently grasp the concept. When lunch was over, he kissed and hugged you like you were his savior.
âThank you for showing me! I must show the others!â
You were so confused.
But you didnât know you created a monster.
That is ALL this man does now!
Youâll see him in the mornings. âHey Izuku!â
âHey y/n!âÂ
Hits the woah.
He answers a question correctly?
Hits the woah.
He answers a question incorrectly?
Hits the woah.
Beats Bakugo in a competiton.
Hits the woah.
Bakugo did not appreciate that.Â
He downloaded tiktok and 80% of the videos are of him and/or someone else hitting the woah.
All Might has asked you if your boyfriend is going through something. You just pinch your nose.Â
Bakugo Katsuki:
wonât outwardly admit to knowing how to dance, but when the time comes, heâs ready for anything
also! iâm inlcuding african moves in this one, hope you dont mind
Sometimes, when you two arenât doing anything in particular, youâll try and teach him some moves. Heâll usually sneer about not wanting to learn and how dumb it was. You fake cry and he begrudgingly does it (bc when you cry he panics)
There are multiple snapchat videos of you putting on Shatte Wale or EL (Lomi) and you two doing the shaku shaku or azonto. You were surprised when he picked up other moves like dougie, lean back, and jerkin.Â
The music was blasting in his room and you two were following the Walk It Out music video, dancing, copying what you could and just having fun with one another. At first, Bakugo was a bit stiff, embarrassed that he was even indulging in something like this, but he saw the happy look on your face and set a tiny bit of his pride aside.
Plus, you were actually kinda good and he wasnât gonna let you show him up on something he knew he was good at.Â
âAyyee, okay Bakugo! You kinda lit!â you cheered.
The genuine praise made him blush. âI donât know what you thought this was, but of course I can dance, idiot!â he exclaimed, trying to fight his sudden embarrassment with how into it he was getting.Â
You laughed at him and he was about to cuss you out until you gasped.
Suddenly, your favorite song by Saweetie came on and your face fell into all seriousness as you broke out in dance. He sputtered when you sensually moved your body over to him, taking his hand and turning so your body so your back was to him.Â
âWell if youâre so good, why donât you prove it,â you challenged.Â
He was confused until you circled your hips and he automatically followed your lead. Bakugoâs prior bashfulness left him and a proud grin spread across his lips, eyes half-lidded with desire.Â
âOh, bet.â
You bent forwards, hands on your knees as you threw it back on himâand he caught it just fine. This was his kind of dancing. He was a beast in clubs. (ofc youâre 18+).Â
It wasnât like it was anything new to him. You two have had many many opportunities to practice.Â
When âRed Noseâ came on, it was over.Â
Well, the dancing was over~
Todoroki Shoto:
hits the meanest milly rock and you cant convince me otherwise
*youre in an American club for this one and you all are most certainly 21+*
You two were overseas for a vacation. Well, it was supposed to be a trip for a business convention, and he was going as the next heir to his fatherâs company, but who wouldnât use this as a getaway?
Plus, a chance to show your boyfriend where you come from?
And on Endeavorâs dime? Say less.Â
You were going out to a club downtown with your Shoto and your friends and their partners. It would be a nice de-stressor for the long day you and Todoroki had handling business.Â
At first, Todoroki was a bit hesitant. You offered to have a dance practice, but he softly declined. He wasnât one to go out and you didnât push it.
But then he saw you in that tight outfit, the one that makes your ass pop, and he grabbed the keys before you could.Â
The sooner you went, the sooner yâall could get back home for the real party.
Anywayâ
At first, you two are just standing and talking, enjoying one anotherâs company. Youâre a bit tipsy when youâre friends drag you onto the dance floor and you let loose. Todorokiâs watching you with a soft smile and then talking to your friendsâ partners before they prompt him to take a couple shots.Â
He might be one of the fiercest heroes in Japan, but mans canât hold his liquor.
He sees you dancing and canât help but miss the way your body feels in his hands. You both make eye contact and heâs suddenly making a b-line for you.
*Big Oleâ Freak by Megan Thee Stallion begins*
Todoroki is working his hardest to catch all the ass youâre throwing, using his hands and the support from the people behind him. He wonât let his good sis Todoroki Tina down.Â
Heâs pretty damn good at catching.
Yâall are sin on the floor. So much so that your friends are HOLLERING.Â
âFUCK IT UP Y/N!!!â
âLETâS GOOOO SHOTOâ
âCATCH THAT ASS, BRO!!â
âBITTTCHHH!!!â
*Cue Pour It Up by Rihanna*
The music changes, and suddenly, both of you are facing each other, hittinâ the folks and slowing down the nae nae. Nasty Freestyle by T-Wayne comes on, and you guys are the center of attention.
Let me tell youâŠit was perfection.
The City Girls came on and Todoroki amps it upâyou rapping the lyrics as he dances. (He loves the City Girls as much as he does Meg and hopes a woman scams his dad like that)
But you even lose your shit when Shoto starts to milly rock. Heâs got the entire club hyping him up.Â
The next day, you both are watching videos from last night. Your brows shot up in surprise at how natural he was. You both were kinda shook.
âIâve never seen you dance a day in your life. Where did this come from?â you asked, a genuine pitch in your tone.
Shoto was just as clueless as you.Â
âI have no idea.â

Post pictures of your first ever (fictional/celeb) crush to the latest one and tag five others to continue the game.
Ali tagged me, thanks. I guess đ @lanzhansmilesâ
Aâight so Iâm simply taking this as an opportunity to show off my frankly impeccable taste đ *coughs into the crook of my elbow with my mask on and from a safe distance* More under the cut, godspeed!
Iâm tagging uhh I really donât want to expose anyone but uh. @morifinwesâ @ttaechwitaâ @sunshine304â @treemaidengeekâ @flamingwellâ no pressure tho!!
Since 2006
Janina Fautz: Die Wilden Kerle, anyone?? Tbh i had a crush on quite a lot of the characters/actors but in hindsight Janina was and is the most influential one. Also probably my first ever girl crush (again, in hindsight bc it took me until 3 years ago to finally find out iâm queer lol)
Eva-Maria May: Yeah well Iâm not gonna talk about where I know her from letâs say it was an incredibly bad soap opera my mom used to watch. She was one of the reasons why I went Yeah I Have Always Been Into Girls. I was pretty obsessed with her to the point where mini me secretly printed out a photo of her to look at lmaooo the signs have always been there and itâs truly amazing how I had been missing them for years
Amy Adams: Her as Amelia Earhart in Night at the Museum was also definitely a huge Thing to young me. Again, I had been completely oblivious about this crush for years
David Luiz: HAH! This is the point where we do NOT get into my football/soccer crushes bc this list would get WAYYY too long hahaha. I had to cut loads of people from my list for this post bc I develop a new celebrity crush every 5 minutes basically but yeah. David Luiz was definitely my biggest football/soccer crush out of..... everyone else
M*rvel
I donât have a lot to say about any of them since Iâm not into m*rvel anymore TFATWS makes me want to stick the tip of my toe back into m*rvel waters but otherwise NO THANKS
Sebastian Stan was, if my judgement of my archive is right, the longest highkey celebrity crush Iâve ever had. Mostly because I love Bucky a lot and he was so amazing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I mustâve had a crush on him for as long as I had been in the m*rvel fandom
Recent Past
some celeb crushes from last year that were all more or less short-lived tbh
Ester ExpĂłsito: As it often goes I didnât find her spectacular in the beginning but as Ălite went on I started to develop a huge crush on her. I still find her pretty hot but Iâm not invested in Ălite so yeah..... I have no object permanence
Mina El Hammani: Got to know her through Ălite, too. Sheâs so incredibly beautiful. Had a hard time choosing a photo of her bc Iâd stare at every single one for ages. Wow.
Danger Days!Gerard Way: Hah! The ones of you whoâve been following me for longer might remember my posts about wanting to dye my hair neon red. Well, himâs the reason and also clinical depression. Ended up with natural red/ginger bc my hair is too thin for bleaching lel. ANYWAY
Maxence Danet Fauvel: Pretty short-lived crush from my Skam days
Ramy Moharam Fouad: So Ramy has a brother, Tamino-Amir Moharam Fouad, who makes INCREDIBLE music. Ramy made some of his music videos (directed them? not sure), thatâs how he came to my attention. Idk man heâs just so incredibly beautiful.... gives me a hint of genvy, too......
Janelle MonĂĄe: Became a fan when Make Me Feel came out, listened to the entire album for days and eventually inevitably crushed on her
Lera Abova: Saw her in ANĐĐ and fell in love. I screamed to my friends for weeks about how she was the most beautiful human being Iâd ever seen etc etc. Eventually my crush went away mostly, but I still think sheâs stunning
Keiynan Lonsdale: Keiynan said FUCK gender and I said đđđ and thatâs all you need to know.
Current
*deep breath* alright letâs gooo
Bright (Wachirawit Chivaaree): Crushed on him for as long as I watched 2gether/Still 2gether lmao. I still like him a lot and sometimes lose my mind over him but Iâm not exceptionally Thirstyâą
Tul (Pakorn Thanasrivanitchai) and Max (Nattapol Diloknawarit): If you search either of them on tumblr you will have to scroll for a long, long time to find seperate photos of them. However, Iâm not patient enough so here we are. Re: Tul, actually I want to copy/paste what Ali said bc DAMN a man who is confident about his masculinity and sexuality really is kinda hot. Same goes for Max tbh. Also Maxâ lips look so soft I [redacted]
Lukas von Horbatschewsky: Also known as Lukas Alexander. He did an amazing job in Druck and heâs just a person I admire in general. As one of the few out trans actors in Germany, he had a main role as a trans boy in Druck and also co-wrote Druckâs seasons 5 and 6. Heâs just a huge role model to me and, apart from that, Big Crush Material (h i s e y e s)
Li Wei: Someone suggested him as Hua Cheng for the TGCF live action and my life hasnât been the same since. While Iâm open for whoever will get that role in the end, I could look at his face for hours and not get bored. Major Genvy, too.
Li BoWen and Liu HaiKuan: I will have to deal with these two in one paragraph bc LanLan bc they have the exact same effect on me which is. that theyâre not 100% my type but I WILL go absolutely feral about them at regular intervals, if you know what I mean
Song JiYang: ohh honey. oh honey.......... hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have a natural affinity for aquarius ppl and this one lives in my heart rent free. Iâd even make him soup if heâd ask.
Wang YiBo: WELL HOLY SHIT. listen. LISTEN! the hype around him is 100% justified imo he really is That Bitch and I love him so so much for it. Fucking ICON
Honorary Mentions: Gender Envy
Hereâs to the People I Thought I Had A Crush On But Not Quite until I learned the word Gender Envy:
Zhu YiLong: Man, this is the person whoâs mainly responsible for me finding out AT ALL about not being entirely cis. The POWER he holds!!! His performance as Ye Zun in Guardian was like a breakthrough point for me which. certain people witnessed in real time hahaha oh I love this fandom!!
Zhu ZanJin: HIM. AAAH!! Heâs literally so beautiful and whenever I see him I just go ZANZAN!! in my head and in the tags bc. well. hIM.
Xiao Zhan With Long Hair: Look, Xiao Zhan is always amazing but BLESS the person who made these manips. I can finally rest.
Wang YiBo: uhh whatâs he doing here again?? Tbh YiBo is one of the few, if not the only person that gives me Major Gender Envy that I would also [redacted] if they asked. Do I want to be him or be with him? The answer is Yes.
I skipped the fictional characters bc I tend not to crush on them đđ Instead I will just directly crush on the actors/actresses lol!
Thank you for bearing with me. As a prize, you can choose between a ladder supported forehead kiss, or a bowl of homemade soup. â€

mtmte liveblog issue 36
time travel arccccccccccccc yessssssssss
I have been waiting SO LONG to reread this arc hhhhh yessss
starting off strong with the sexy roller cover. nice
I love the disconnect of âorion pax: outlawâ compared to the last time we saw him in shadowplay where he was orion pax: supercop
heâs still punching people for JUSTICE or whatever so I guess not much has changed
oh my god this is the issue with the many many two-page spreads...the first time I read this issue I didn't realize that was a thing and GOD I was SO fucking confused. there's already a lot going on in this issue/arc but this made things so much worse hvbhjkdfbsk. I powered thru and still managed to understand most of the arc despite reading half this issue out of order (essentially) bc the website I read it on split the pages up and I couldn't tell they were supposed to be doubled (and also I'm dumb so I didn't figure it out)
anyways, the actual issue...windcharger is out here using his powers to rip a dudes arms clean off. wow!
and there's skids getting punched in the face. Ls
and glitch! a totally minor character of course...
MANNNNN I SO adore the panel of all the lost lighters appearing in a cloud of purple smoke, all posing epically....SO fucking good, peak sci-fi coolness vibes, A++
as usual jro killing it w/the titles, âelegant chaosâ is such a great name for a time travel arc
also reading the tfwiki has shown me that many of jros titles are song or album titles, to which I say - that's epic and I love it. with jro doing it, I feel like it straddles the line between referencing music and the very fanfic-esque âtitle things after musicâ vibe. I love it
oh god I forgot they use bs cybertronian time units in this sometimes lmao...I mean of course they do but still like, what the fuck is a cycle. is that a day. I feel like these words all have no meaning/the meanings change drastically depending on continuity. I cant keep up and also I'm lazy and don't care enough to try
I love rodimus did u know
poor riptide looks so confused lmao
IS....IS REWIND PIGGYBACKING TAILGATE...THATS SO FUCKING CUTE....I cant fully tell bc of the page layout but ooomg so precious. minibot buddies
whirl saying âchuffâ just reminded me how british jro is hvbhakjhdsfbs sometimes it just Jumps Out in mtmte and I'm like Oh God Britain Is Real
I really like the mtmte approach to time travel and paradoxes and whatnot. its just complex enough to be interesting but not too convoluted that it bogs down the story. perfect sci-fi fun!
mannnn chromedome talking abt brainstorm :( I'm sad abt those two hhhhh
and I love how at this point, nobody in the cast ACTUALLY knows brainstorm well enough to know what heâs really doing - including chromedome, whoâs ostensibly his closest friend, somebody heâs known for a while - and even the readers don't really know what heâs up to...I like the mystery tbh
cant believe rewind wrote orion paxâs biography, omg. completely forgot abt that detail
cd saying âI love it when he talks historyâ about rewind....hhhh I love cdrw so muuuuch
godddd the line rodimus says abt whirl - how they need people like whirl around who are âhappy to get in the wayâ of danger and death - that shit haunts me man like...rodimus is basically saying that heâs bringing whirl along to potentially die in place of someone like orion pax (nevermind the fact that whirl dying would ALSO fuck up the timeline)...like, how deep does it go?? is he saying that bc he knows whirl has been trying to get himself killed for a while now, or just bc whirl likes violence? mannn I cant...the character intricacies...man
anyways...I love rodimus heâs such an interesting character. you have that fucked up moment and then in the next panel heâs saying âif you want to call it a time phone, I wont stop youâ about the quantum walkie-talkie. he has the RANGE
oh and then rodimus casually volunteering chromedome to do mnemosurgery on anyone who might accidentally find out about them time traveling, which is again fucked up on multiple levels. the raaaaange
vjaksbhdhfusajbfdjk that panel of the lost light squad just standing there like idiots reminds me of that post where someone said abt that panel âthese characters have a collective 3 brain cellsâ or something hvbjadkfnksfdl
rodimus IMMEDIATELY breaking his own rules by trying to reassure pax that they're good guys by pointing at his autobot badge, even tho the autobots DONT EVEN EXIST YET at this point...my boy PLEASE go purchase some brain cells from the storeÂ
and the fact that rodimus introduced himself to pax w/his real name...shouldn't he go by an alias or st??? that seems like a good time travel rule since optimus and rodimus definitely know each other laterÂ
and like, did they not anticipate that some of the people in the past would recognize some of the lost lighters hgbajkhdjfnjksf like cd and whirl get Instantly recognized...great job guys
they are all SO bad at this hvbahskjdhfbasjkf I cantttt luckily for them the orion crew is handing them easy alibisÂ
âthe dugoutâ is that a baseball reference????
also I love the scenery here, the bg looks like rock but there's metal piping and stuff running thru it, its so cool...really adds to the whole âcybertron biomes are made of metalâ thing
âancient historyâ rodimus are you KIDDING ME-
cyclonus time travels to the past and IMMEDIATELY finds a window to stare broodingly out of. icon
tailgate thinking orion pax is SUPER COOL continues here from shadowplay and I love it...tailgate is so cute
and the tg saying âdon't you think that's awesome, cyclonus?â hhhhh so cute
one reason I love this arc so much is that this is the arc where the gay Really amps upÂ
TRAILBREAKER.... oh man ;_;
are you telling me that this outlaw base they're in has ONE bed for all of these people. what the hell vhbaksjhfnsal
cant believe rung sampled rollerâs steroid juice box
also cant believe robot steroids exist. except yes I can and I love it
oooh rollerâs a 0/1%er? I forgot abt thatÂ
cant believe orion pax just grabs some random phone that belongs to these weird new people and answers it. WHO does that
goddddd megatron and orionâs conversation....destroy me
HHHHHH like...the HISTORY....the regret...the missed opportunities...its all so palpable....goddddddd
and of COURSE, the whole thing is steeped in tragedy...the ideological differences that will become the foundation for a 4 million year long war...megatron, who believes that you need to burn things down and start again to really make change stick, and then orion, who says âreform is the answer, not revolutionâ....AUGHHH the intricacies. mannnn
âyou sound lostâ đđđ
âits tragic.â yeah, that about sums up their relationship, especially at this stage and in this continuityÂ
anyways. [cries about old man megatron talking to young naĂŻve orion pax] goodbye
AUGHHH and then we jump to rodimus ONCE AGAIN breaking his own rules and trying to save trailbreaker...IT HURTS MAN...god I love rodimus, I feel like him being broken up about crewmembers like trailbreaker dying is one part regular sadness over people he knows dying for tragic reasons, and one part personal guilt at someone under his command dying, even if heâs not involved/at fault. I love the dichotomy of this emotional reaction that comes only partially from empathy/emotion, but also comes from a kinda self-centered need for success as measured by people under your command staying alive. and taking into account rodimusâs life it totally makes sense that heâd act like that...GAH I love it. the complexity of it all!
orion pax saying âyou should read [megatron]. itâs powerful stuffâ I'm screaming, so many LAYERSSSSS
I fucking love time travel AHHHHHHHHH like the opportunity for interactions like these....chefs kiss
âhey, best friend! miss you!â rodimus is such a shit hvbdajkfksjhfdÂ
âvery susâ rodimus ahead of his time w/the among us lingo
oooh and then they realize that the senate is trying to kill the sparks...gotta save the babies!
tailgate scolding cyclonus for bluntly stating that you'd wanna be subtle when killing newborns...hhhvbhsdfhhhhhh I love them sm
ooooh and rewind has an interesting suggestion - that the senate is actually trying to irradiate the sparks into being outliers...rewind is so smart I love him
and the fact that heâs using history from his database...love it
rodimus sending cyclonus and whirl out like pokemon
ROLLER NOOOO DONT GO OUT THERE
also wow this is literally the 5th (I think) double page spread in this issue...the confusion I felt the first time I read this...lmaoÂ
and now this is literally one of my favorite issues so I'm glad I know what's going on lmao
oh man rodimus telling cd not to erase trailbreakers memory even tho that could jeopardize the entire timeline... :(Â
oh man I didn't even notice but roller getting debris blasted into his face like that makes the whole âroller is tarnâ theory even more legit considering tarnâs face scars....
âtighter the betterâ hhh don't say that orion. but also, thatâs the companion phrase to megatron saying âthe deeper the betterâ hvbhasjkhdfbaksjlf
I do love the semi-campy action hero antics that orion pax gets up to. its just so fun, even when the stakes are high and things are serious
âthis is the greatest thing I have ever seenâ tg ily
THE REVEAL THAT THE SPARKS WENT TO NYON...so rodimus just saved himself, basically...time travel is so trippy
GODDDD ND THEN TRAILBREAKER...HVHHHHHh đđđ THATS SO CRUEL MAN
oh man that last panel of trailbreaker holding up rollerâs juice box...iirc the first time I read this I thought that was roller (cause of the juice box I guess? idk I'm an idiot) so I was like oh ok he must've come back or something. very much related but I didn't really think about tarn being a particular pre-established character and totally didn't read the whole âroller is tarnâ thing that was going onÂ
which in my defense ruth also didn't pick up on any of that while reading this and eventually like 2 issues before the reveal I had to prompt her like âyou should maybe be wondering WHO tarn isâ vhbahjksdfbaksjdf
so! issue 37! this issue is a solid favorite of mine, id say definitely top 5 or even 3. I'm super biased bc I fucking LOVE time travel, itâs seriously one of my favorite tropes ever, and this issue hits all the time travel beats I love. characters traveling to the past and interacting with people they know! conversations that have multiple meanings bc of TIME TRAVEL! trying to save someone who meets a terrible fate in your future! fun time travel action! the time traveling characters being generally terrible at hiding the fact that they're time travelers! ITS SO GOOD.Â
and I love the clever way everything is tied together here - where we get a nice continuation of shadowplay, with this taking place shortly after that with a lot of the same cast, and time travel classics like the good ole âif we hadn't travelled back in time and done what we did, the future we came from wouldn't have existed at all,â in the flavor of ârodimus saving his baby selfâ and ârodimus NOT saving trailbreakerâ and âeveryone forgot about roller :(âÂ
ok but like, did the lost lighters just go âoh well, guess rollers gone now.â like they DID realize that the outlaw crew would have no idea what happened to him if they got their memories erased, right?? did the lost lighters figure that since roller never reappeared after this time period, that was how history was âsupposedâ to go and they shouldn't mess with it? am I overthinking it? as usual: yes, probably. I love overthinking about comics, in case that wasn't obvious
basically...I love this issue soooo much. so so good and a bunch of fun tropes that I love. I mean the whole arc is like that for me since I love time travel so much. so I cant wait to (re)read more!!

I enjoyed doing this last week so this is. a thing now I guess. click through for roundup of whatever media Iâve been into in the past week (will normally be on thursdays I think bc thatâs the day Iâm usually free but my schedule this week was weird) (inspired by the tuesday again thing that @girlfriendsofthegalaxy does)
listening: the new Mountain Goats album Getting Into Knives is very fun and full of bops, for a given value of both âfunâ and âbopsâ because itâs The Mountain Goats so it does have that edge of depression but quite a few of the songs are a bit more. cheerful? than a lot of their other stuff, for lack of a better word
favorite track is probably The Rat Queen
listening (podcast edition): this very fun episode of Overinvested tearing apart the new movie adaptation of Rebecca which I have not seen and was not planning on seeing but I do enjoy people smartly analyzing why things arenât good and also I do love discussions about Gothic romance
reading: The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall is probably a very good book that someone else will enjoy very much, as lots of people whose opinions I generally trust already have enjoyed it. and I possibly will enjoy more if I give it another chance, once Iâve gotten over being disappointed that it wasnât what I was looking for right now. the premise is neat! the worldbuilding is cool! the characters are interesting! mermaids, witches, and seas are three of my favorite things and also there are pirates, my other fave thing!
the reason I bounced off of it so hard is that I kept seeing it hyped up as a trans/nonbinary book, and then felt kinda let down when I started reading it and realized that the main character whom Iâve seen described as genderqueer is 1) dressing as a guy because someone else suggested it for safety reasons and 2) this was several years before the story starts and this character still refers to herself exclusively (disclaimer that I didnât read the full thing but. as far as I got and also I skimmed toward the ending) as she and by her feminine birthname. and those things are fine, thatâs a valid gender story, nonbinary people can absolutely keep their old pronouns and names and it doesnât make them any less nonbinary, but the way it was framed in the parts that I read felt to me more like the old classic âgirl dresses as guy for plot reasonsâ thing, which isnât something I personally wanted to read more of right now, especially not when I went in expecting something that would resonate more with my gender experience
watching: Iâve been rewatching Leverage, since I only ever watched the first season many years ago because thatâs what was free on hulu at the time, and the thing thatâs really getting to me is how fundamentally hopeful it is. like, yeah, sure, the premise of it is about how capitalism is designed to fuck people over and there is A Lot about specifically health insurance being really really awful. so there are parts of it that are a lil bit too real, but then at the end of the day they always win and punish the rich capitalists and help their victims and itâs just. nice to see that kind of happy ending
the specific episode Iâm having lots of thoughts about is the Mile High Job, which is about the team is trying to protect a potential corporate whistleblower from being murdered by her coworker while on an airplane. at first theyâre not sure whatâs going on because they werenât expecting two people from the corporation to be on that flight, so they donât know which person is the one they should be focusing on. one of them is an anxious younger woman and the other is an extremely generic man, and from the moment they decided that the woman was the one they had to protect I was dreading the plot twist of âno actually you just helped her take out her target and you shouldâve been protecting the other guyâ which wouldâve felt just. so mean-spirited and cynical but itâs the kind of thing I expect from media I guess. and then once it was clear that nope, that twist wasnât going to happen, I expected her to turn around at the end and be like âactually no Iâm not gonna testify against the corporation because Iâve realized how dangerous it is.â and I kind of hate that Iâve become so jaded by both media and also the real world that Iâm so ready to expect the most cynical option, because Iâm not used to stories about how even though the system is corrupt and oppressive and exploitative, people can still help each and they do and sometimes they make things better
playing: got back into playing Dishonored after taking a couple weeks off because I got stuck and frustrated and also kept playing for too long at a time and giving myself headaches. Lady Boyleâs Last Party (which I am going to completely and entirely spoil so if you donât want that this is your warning) is probably the mission that I have the strongest mixed feelings about. I love the approach to the party, I love the concept of sneaking into a masquerade ball, I love signing the guestbook with your actual legal wanted fugitive name while wearing the mask that you commit all of your crimes in, I love a good fancy party mission I cannot stress that enough itâs the sexiest possible setting
HOWEVER. trying to sneak around upstairs fucking sucks because the ceilings arenât high enough for there to be places to hide, like convenient hanging lamps or pipes to blink up to. my least favorite room in this entire game is that art gallery because you can get on top of the cases and you think youâre safe because youâre Up but then the guards spot you instantly and sound the alarm and the entire party shuts down and then you let them kill you so that you can go back to your last save
ADDITIONALLY, fuck the nonlethal option for this one. I hate it so much and feel so incredibly gross about choosing it but I also feel extremely not great about tricking her into meeting me alone and then actually assassinating her. the conversation is so uncomfortable that I tried to be like âactually no nevermindâ which causes her to think youâre weird and creepy and she has the guards ââthrow you outââ which apparently in Dunwall is just how you say that sheâs gonna have the guards murder you. but anyway. she's a shitty rich lady but she doesn't deserve either of the things that could happen to her and she's only a target because she's sleeping w a guy who sucks. she hasnât done anything! she isnât actually responsible for what happened to Jessamine or Emily! which works on a narrative level in my opinion because this is the last mission before you go after the lord regent and itâs becoming clear that the loyalists are just using Corvo for their own agenda and donât actually care about Jessamine. but itâs still unpleasant to be the one enacting it, yâknow?
also on a narrative level, I really like the concept of doing a clean hands run except killing each of the actual targets, because I feel like that would be a cool inversion of the trope where the hero kills a bunch of mooks and then refuses to kill the big bad because murder is wrong. on a gameplay level, Iâm still gonna do the nonlethal options because I refuse to risk getting the bad ending, and Iâm proud of the fact that I havenât killed anyone since getting out of prison. I do wanna do a high chaos playthrough at some point though just to see how it goes, since I went low chaos last time too
sorry for writing an entire essay about Dishonored but. the funniest thing from that mission is that apparently if you get spotted by one of the maids in the basement where you are not supposed to be (the guards will immediately attack if they see you) instead of raising the alarm she just says âwelcome to the party.â love that solidarity.
making: none of my cosplay stuff is at an especially picture-worthy stage and I didnât get pictures of the pesto I made for dinner last night so thereâs not gonna be much thatâs interesting here but I did go to Spirit Halloween after Halloween when everything was on clearance and got a bunch of stuff that Iâm gonna use for cosplay eventually
writing: soon I will finish the Eddis/Attolia Queenâs Thief fic thatâs been rattling around in my brain ever since I finished the last book. hopefully.

18. What is a line/scene youâre really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.
oof this one is gonna be so longâą so itâs going under the cut.
Letâs talk about the slow dance scene in Hidden Horns. Specifically Badd and Garouâs slow dance.
First thing is that this scene actually got written before most of the rest of the fic. It wasnât originally going to be part of HH, I wrote it bc I was listening to Orville Peckâs album Pony, and when this song came on, I thought it sounded like a fun song to slow dance to. It also made me yearn but thatâs besides the point.Â
Anyways letâs get into it.
Badd guided Garouâs hands to his hips. ââm not a kid like Zen is, yâcan hold me.â
Garou blinked, doing his best to focus on anything other than the warm weight of Baddâs hands on his shoulders or the feeling of Baddâs hips between his hands.
Garouâs a disaster. If youâve ever seen middle schoolerâs slow dance with the stiff zombie arms, thatâs basically what he was doing. Which if youâve ever been in that position, you know itâs not super comfortable for either party, nor is it sustainable bc of that.
But putting his hands on Baddâs hips might have been even more dangerous to Garou. Baddâs kind of a walking contradiction: heâs gruff but heâs sweet, rough but also gentle, muscular yet graceful. Garouâs kind of been seeing that first hand, but now heâs feeling it for himself in the way Badd moves and the feeling of muscle shifting under his finger tips.
Thereâs also the implied trust that Badd is showing in draping his arms around Garouâs neck on both ends. Theyâre both putting themselves in a vulnerable position where the other could easily overpower them if they strike first. Their willingness to be in this position with one another is kind of part of the evolution of their dynamic.Â
I left a lot of that unsaid both because of the fact that having that analysis mid fic kind of kills the pacing and fic. Also this is done in the rhythm and tempo of Roses Are Falling, and while itâs a slow song, itâs not at a standstill.
âBack on the run,â
âHer reflexes are scary fast,â Garou remarked.
âBack to the blueâŠâ
Badd chuckled. âYeah. Sometimes sheâs too fast even fer me tâtrack.â
One of the reasons I decided to put this scene in HH versus saving it for another fic is because of the lyrics of the song. Thereâs some fun foreshadowing and parallels between what is happening and what the lyrics are saying that I thought would work really well for this fic.
I also think this works well as a little nod to the actual canon of OPM and a potential way their relationship could evolve from here. So we get the compare and contrast throughout the passage of where the characters in HH are versus where their canon counterparts might be.
âRoses Are Fallingâ is, by Orville Peckâs own admission, a song about âloving someone so much you kind of want to kill them.â While I donât think Badd and Garou have that kind of relationship, I think thereâs some truth to the lyrics and this idea of being isolated together, which we also see in âKansas Remembers Me Nowâ and âBig Skyâ, the two other Orville Peck songs featured in this section.
Zenkoâs a pretty safe topic for the boys to discuss. Badd can talk about her for hours on end, and Garou adores her. If they have one spot of common ground, itâs Zenko.
âWinning is fun,â
âSheâs gonna pass you up soon,â Garou said.
âLosing is, tooâŠâ
Badd gave him a confused look.
âYou know, in terms of athletic abilities.â
âRoses are fallinâ, roses from fallinâ for you,â
Badd smacked Garouâs neck, feigning offense, but Garou saw the small smile on his face.
Slow dancing is incredibly intimate (even in a platonic setting. Platonic slowdances still require a lot of trust and vulnerability). Especially for two people grappling with unspoken feelings like these two idiots.
Garou definitely feels that tension at this point and tries to diffuse it in a way thatâs worked for them in the past: by jokingly poking fun at Badd.
The lyrics here felt fitting to me. The two of them are highly competitive, but theyâve gotten to a point where just the act of being together is more important than winning. They kind of verbally spar for a lot of their relationship, but here we see them just enjoying each otherâs company.
âOohâŠâ Â
The two swayed at an armâs distance.
âThe ache inside the hateâI found a way to sit and wait, and now I canât: your voiceâyour faceâwithout a traceâIâll wait for youâŠâ
ââs awkward swayinâ this far apart,â Badd huffed.
He pulled Garou close enough that their noses almost touched.
For much of their friendship, Baddâs been the one acting as the initiator. He suggests the sleepover, he cooks for Garou, he introduces truth or dare, which becomes their coded language for opening up, etc. It makes sense for him to be the one to initiate here.
Garou in HH has pretty much the same backstory as he does in canon, he just didnât go off the rails because he met Tareo earlier. But it was important to me to make sure the fact he still didnât know how to interact/make friends his age was front and center. He doesnât initiate many of the âfriendship milestonesâ because he doesnât know what to do. All this is new ground for him.Â
The fact Badd even wants to be his friend is unprecedented and completely unexpected to him.Â
Of course, this doesnât mean he doesnât initiate anything. He takes Zenko to school so Badd can heal, he meets Madame Oshitani, he asks Badd how heâs feeling and offers his ear when itâs clear somethingâs bothering him.Â
Badd is very intentional about how he goes about interacting with Garou because he knows Garouâs never had a friend like him before. Garou by contrast, does things just to be helpful and worries about being a good friend/if heâs doing it right, not realizing heâs already being a good friend.
Garouâs normally so direct and unabashed, so having this spot where heâs more self-conscious and awkward is a fun reversal. And itâs pretty canon compliant given how he interacts with Tareo.
We see them kind of switch roles later, where Garou takes the lead during their orange chicken talk.
The lyrics here have two roles: it kind of mimics how I think their canon relationship could progress like I mentioned earlier (from hate to irritation to begrudging respect and love) but also shows their unspoken fear of what could happen in HH: they blow up and each becomes a face that the other canât forget, but canât go back to.
Itâs not a fear that has gotten addressed super directly thus far, (we see a little bit in the upcoming chapter) the closest being the non-conversation the two have about what is left unsaid.
âRoses are fallinâ for youâŠâ
The first thing Garou noticed was how good Badd smelled. Seems his sleep addled brain hadnât been wrong after all.
Garou is in Gay Panicâą mode here.Â
I described Badd in an earlier chapter as smelling like aftershave and freesia. I wanted to give him a smell that kind of combined his classic style with something gentler, and more sweet.Â
Freesia is usually a smell in womenâs perfumes, but itâs one I think heâd appreciate. And I donât see him being one to give a fuck about gendering smells.
âYouâŠâ
Badd draped his arms around Garouâs neck and averted his gaze.
Garou watched in wonder as Baddâs lashes fluttered.
Up as close as he was and borderline drunk off how good Baddâs smelled, Garou stared unabashedly at his face.
He looked so, devastatingly beautiful.
Garou staring here is kind of a callback to the conversation they have early on about Garou ogling at Badd/Badd making fun of him for it.
Thereâs an openness here thatâs different than the last time Garou really looked at Badd. Before, he was admiring him and his power. Here, we see him taking in a more delicate side of Badd, and Badd just letting him look at him. Weâre seeing him take in Baddâs lashes, and calling him beautiful. Itâs a new facet of who Badd is, and a new contradiction for Garou to grapple with: powerful, yet delicate.
If youâve ever been with someone and youâre standing next to one another and you can see them staring at you from the corner of your eye and you keep pretending to look out at something in the distance because itâs easier than making eye contact and having to sort out what that gaze means, thatâs essentially what is happening here.
Baddâs aware Garouâs staring at him, and he knows why. But heâs not ready to meet his gaze yet. Especially not if Garou himself isnât ready.
âUnder your skin, over the moonâŠâ
He prayed Badd wouldnât look up so he could continue to look at him.
âDonât let me in, I don't know what Iâd doâŠâ
Because if Badd did, and Garou saw what he thought he would in Baddâs eyes, it would devastate him.
This is a callback to Garou refusing to make eye contact when heâs laughing about Baddâs indignation over pigeons because he knows whatever Baddâs gaze holds will devastate him.Â
Garou equally fears the two ways it will devastate him. Either he looks up, sees the warmth in his gaze, and falls for Badd, only to find out his feelings arenât reciprocated, or his feelings are, and heâs thrust into a new landscape to navigate that leaves him vulnerable and exposed, and threatens to tear apart their friendship.
In Ch.9/Whatâs Left Unspoken, I originally planned on having a metaphor that kind of embodied that second fear. Garou can almost picture a strand of spider silk connecting him and Badd. Something so delicate and new, that he almost didnât want to acknowledge it. Because doing so would cosmically shift their dynamic, and if that thread got severed, it could threaten their whole relationship. I ended up cutting it because I couldnât get the metaphor quite right and it brought the chapter to a standstill.
âRoses are fallinâ, roses from fallinâ for youâŠâ Â
Badd began to turn his head, but before their eyes could meet, Garou looked away.
âOohâŠâ
Garou could feel Baddâs gaze raking over him. From the corner of his eye, he saw his lips part.
Here weâre seeing that fear controlling Garou a bit. He doesnât know whatâs in Baddâs gaze, and he thinks if he avoids it, he can avoid the change in their dynamic all together.Â
But some part of him wants to know, and is screaming for him to turn his head, potential consequences be damned.Â
âYou know, darling, you bring out the worst in meâŠâ
Garou steeled his nerves and looked directly at Badd.
âSometimes when Iâm around you, I feel like pure evilâŠâ
Heâd been right. The tenderness he found in Baddâs eyes devastated him.
The second song line here is...very much how Garou views himself in canon, and to a lesser extent, in this AU.
He still hasnât forgiven himself for what he might have done, and when he sees Badd, and his gentleness, kindness and optimism despite how the world has treated him and Zenko, it makes him question hero-dom more than he already does.
And weâre seeing Garou discover what is in Baddâs eyes. Garou has a harder time reading Badd than Badd does reading him, so what he finds in Baddâs eyes is unreadable to him, hence why the statement is left vague in terms of what he finds there.
âI guess they say nobody's perfectâŠâ
Baddâs gaze flicked down to Garouâs lips.
âBut theyâve never met a devil like youâŠâ
The lyrics here feel spot on, especially to end the muscial interlude to. Garou knows Badd isnât perfect and vise versa, but they still accept one another. The lyrics kind of foreshadow Badd and Garouâs heart to heart about why they think theyâre bad people.Â
Baddâs action here are really what solidify Garouâs understanding of what heâs seeing in Baddâs eyes.Â
Before he realized what he was doing, Garou was leaning in, closing the small gap between them.
And when he sees the warmth there, and knows his feelings are reciprocated, he leans in, more intentionally taking the role of the initiator for the first time.

First time crying because of a pokemon game
Literally no one:
Me: Iâm gonna write about pokemon shield because itâs a great game and i love it
Man the last time i got to review something was probably 7 years ago during high school english class. I am by no mean a writer, yet again a game reviewer. This is just my honest take on the game bc it saddens me to see that a lot of people are shitting on the game especially with the dexit, short game, lack of action and the paid DLCs just announced. Iâve been playing pokemon for 10 years or so (my first game was saphire) and despite the flaws this game has, i truly enjoy it.
1.) First of all. dude u gotta appreciate the visuals of the game!! LOOK AT THOSE!!
The screenshots above are from some of my favourite areas in the game. The concept of wild area is really cool and it makes the pokemon journey more realistic like the ones we used to see in the anime or how we imagined it. That it would take days to reach a city and u need to set up a camp whenever you need to rest or fill your belly. Also getting chased by strong wild pokemon in the wild area really got my blood pumping lmao
2.) THE SOUNDTRACKS. THE FRIGGIN. MUSIC. Iâm such an aficionado for great music whether itâs an album, movie scores, and even games like these. Seriously the gym leader battle theme is an absolute banger (especially the crowdsâ chants!!). Like it makes my 12 yo character more fired up to kick a grown upâs ass in front of a packed stadium and live tv. The last time i was this excited to kick a gym leaderâs butt was when i was battling winona years ago bc my dumb ass havenât quite figured out the concept of type advantages.
^more appreciation for the gym leader battle theme. From all the shits this game has received, i havenât seen a single complaint about the music so explain this, science side.
3.) I love how in this game some of the NPCs have actual character like our rival hop, leon, piers, marnie and bede too. BUT ESPECIALLY OUR RIVAL HOP. SERIOUSLY HOP IS BEST BOI AND ONLY DESERVES THE BEST đđđ. Hop is (i assume) childhood friend/neighbour who happens to be the little brother of the current champion leon. Now this may seem like a usual pokemon protag - rival trope, being the protag is a nobody who just stepped into the world of pokemon trainer and the rival being someone related to someone important in the region (like how green/blue, barry, and hau was). Being a championâs little brother is quite a big deal for hop but hop isnât the snarky arrogant rival like green was. Instead heâs just a happy kid who dreams of surpassing his brother and want to form a healthy rivalry/friendship with you (heâs kinda a mix of barry and hau imo). Throughout your journey, hop helps you with the ropes and just generally be there as a friend...a real good friend.
And just like the previous games, as the story progresses you get to battle hop quite frequently and in order to advance further in the game (and keep those pocket money to buy varsity jackets) you gotta beat him over and over again. The thing is, unlike some other rivals who were like âwow ur so strong! k i need to train more byeâ hop actually TALKS TO YOU. Sure he did acknowledge our strength, but after he would talk to you abt other things like the next city/gym leader or even abt his life atm. I really appreciate the developers for making details like this bc through the dialogues you can actually see the depth of the characters and it makes you actually think. Like for example from my battles and dialogues with hop, i can see that heâs quite pressured bc of his background as the championâs brother and people have high expectations of him, yet he keeps on losing to you (his rival). There is even one point in the game in which hop fell through a downward spiral bc he keeps on losing to you (the protag) and another NPC rival. You can ACTUALLY FEEL the stirring of emotions through the battles with hop and the dialogues bc at one point he even said something like âi donât wanna drag leonâs name through the mud bc iâm too weakâ and i was like NOOOOO WHO HURT YOU đđđđ (but then i realized it was partly me oh god iâm so sorry hop). Never in all my experience playing pokemon game that i feel bad about beating a rival, i do hope in future games they would let the rival beat us....well probably during an offscreen battle :p
Also, for the longest time we finally have our champion doing actual champion duties (?) like protecting the region from catastrophe. Like i understand that this is probably where the âlack of actionâ comes from because letâs face it, team yell isnât actually a threat to you or the region, and whenever a âreal threatâ comes up, leon would beat you to take care of it first. Tbh there are moments when i was like âdamn leon let me in on the fun too!â but then again i realized there are actual adults in this game with their actual jobs (champion, researchers, gym leaders) who can actually do their job without relying on a 12 yo to do everything for them which is pretty realistic if you think about it
but donât worry, in the end weâll get to play a big part in saving the region too :))
4.) THE GYM LEADERS AND GYM BATTLE IN THIS GAME ARE JUST *chef kiss* the developers really put all their effort in this. Although i admit some of the gym challenges are kinda âlazyâ like just pummel through these gym trainers before facing the leader (especially on the last gym???really????). But the battles against the leaders are never boring.
WE FINALLY GOT A DARK TYPE GYM LEADER WOOTTT!! Plus heâs that one dude from the pop punk band that we love during our middle school years.
God i wish i had a big brother like piers, not only heâs one of the most challenging gym leader in our journey but he also helps us not just once but twice. At one point he throws an impromptu concert to cause a riot for us to be able to get through a heavily guarded area
gOD i love that chaotic energy đđ»đđ»đđ»
Last but not least...man...MY BEST BOI RAIHAN!!! JUST BEST GYM LEADER, DRAGON TAMER (lol sorry lance), A GENIUS, 100% WILL TREAT YOU RIGHT, JUST đđ»đđ»đđ»đŠđŠđŠ đ đ đđŻđŻđŻÂ
just thank you gamefreak for creating him đđđđđđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»Â
OH AND GYM BATTLE UTILIZING WEATHER EFFECTS??? thatâs some solid strategy there. Iâm not a really strategic pokemon trainer, so i usually just pummel through every opponent lmao so when i saw this man controlling dragons and the weather i just đź
AND THE FRIGGIN SELFIE GAWD đđđđ LIKE WHO THOUGHT SNAPPING A SELFIE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SANDSTORM HOLDING A GIANT ASS POKEBALL IS A GOOD IDEA??? BUT THIS MAN SOMEHOW MAKES IT WORK. Also pls give me that camera bc the quality is bomb.
Well this turns out to be longer than i expected but i really just pour out how i feel about this game. Itâs true that itâs not perfect and there are some aspects that can be done better, but as a long time fan of pokemon I REALLY ENJOY THIS GAME. I can see that the developers really work hard for this game to be able to cater to both old and new fans, and we all know that itâs impossible to please everyone. And for those of you who begs to differ or have different opinion about this game itâs perfectly fine and iâm not hoping to change anyoneâs opinion. But PLEASE STOP HARASSING THE DEVELOPERS AND NEW FANS ESPECIALLY YOUNGER ONES! because we all know people who shames othersâ interest are the worst kind of people :))) And if you have the time and money i suggest you give this game a try. Well thatâs all i gotta say, have a good day/night everyone!!

1. The core four + Kevin and Cheryl are attending a literary character party. What costume does each of them wear? Bonus: What costumes are the Southside Serpent characters wearing?
OH BOY. well, betty is elizabeth bennett. her instinct is obviously be nancy drew, but then decides she wants to play dress up a little bit. she tries valiantly to get jughead into a darcy couples costume, but his instinct is to just be sal paradise because he wonât have to buy anything for the costume.Â
betty tells him that if sheâs not going to be nancy, he should go outside the box too. he then decides on dressing like the titular mummy from jane loudonâs the mummy! (heâs still a weirdo, remember)
veronica goes as daisy buchanan if not purely for the extravagant opportunity to dress like a flapper, archie comes as jim hawkins from treasure island, cheryl bucks expectation and attends as a female robin hood (she already loves archery), and kevin is absolutely sherlock holmes. heâd look so natural in a trenchcoat!
2. What extracurricular activities are Reggie, Ethel, Fangs, Midge, Toni and Sweetpea involved in?
besides sports, reggieâs extracurricular activity is definitely selling ground up oregano to middle schoolers and telling them itâs weed.Â
ethel is canonically a drama geek and thatâs valid, but sheâs also probably in band. iâm gonna go with....flutist.Â
fangs is also canonically a drama geek and a regular geek (less we not forget jughead used a larping club to lure fangs out of a self-imposed suspension) so i honestly am just waiting for him and kev to start up their dungeons and dragons club. (wow they are perfect for each other tho??? a dorkier bughead)
midge (RIP) was probably into 4-H bc i canât get the concept of âklump farmsâ out of my head. she seemed like a genuinely sweet person who also was a regular teenager and was a cheerleader and probably volunteered at hospitals too idkÂ
toni wanted to get laid so bad she became a cheerleader. or, ok, seriously i mean my headcanon is like, itâs bring it on, where toni was into gymnastics and dance in a v serious way but southside didnât offer any curriculars that would allow her to do that, and she couldnât afford gymnastics herself. turns out the closest thing riverdale has is cheerleading, whichâll do.Â
sweet pea is probably the lowkey nerdiest of them all. i was joking earlier that heâs probably secretly into anime, but more seriously: feel like heâd go for basketball officially and also probably has an interest in engineering. i mean, that interest began with pipe bombs, but. yanno. ya dreams gotta start somewhere!!!
3. Give me three of your favourite headcanons for Reggie
had a crush on betty until high school
does his dumbest shit for his dadâs attention, painfully unsubtle about it
is cripplingly afraid of being alone, which is why he surrounds himself by teammates at all times and/or canât get past the pack mentality. has difficulty being vulnerable in spite of all that, canât be honest with himself and/or with others.Â
4. Itâs Saturday night and the core four are all hanging out by themselves at home. What is each of them up to?
betty is listening to the memory palace podcast while laying on her bed, feet crossed up in the air, doing her homework. cleaned her room earlier. wants to call polly. she doesnât. stays up till two am for no reason other than her room is warm and full of golden light and itâs the only time the house is quiet. plugged back in her old nightlight, half out of spite after polly nearly threw it out, half genuinely. sometimes she thinks sheâs still afraid of the dark. the irony isnât lost on her.Â
jughead is working on his novel, american crime story is playing on the TV in the background, a bag of popcorn slowly rotating in the microwave. the trailer is empty and he chooses to think his dad is at work. emails his sister. he doesnât remember when, but theyâve stopped talking about their mom. his tattoo itches. toni told him not to scratch at it.Â
veronica is drinking chamomile tea on a tray, scrolling through pinterest and making a european vacation mood board for the post-graduation trip sheâd like to take with her friends. she wants to surprise them with it, all-expenses paid. she resists the urge to book flights years in advance. browses the barneyâs website. doesnât know why she gets such a thrill from online shopping. isnât sure why she canât stop.Â
archie is in the garage, his fingers strumming aimlessly over the strings of his guitar. wonders why his mother canât be a lawyer here in riverdale. isnât sure if music was ever his own, or something he thought he should want, because he didnât want to work construction. or worse, because a woman found it attractive. brought his history textbook out with the intention to study. doesnât. practices wonderwall, even though jughead laughs whenever the song comes upon.Â
5. Whatâs your headcanon for Jugheadâs hat? Why does he wear it? Whatâs the origin story?
his mom made it when he was a kid, and growing up in threadbare clothes donated down the line of serpents or thrift store finds, it was the one thing that was truly his---made for him. with love.Â
being scrawny and quiet and outgrowing his pants too fast to replace them already set him apart. might as well let the hat seal the deal.Â
6. What is your Riverdale guilty pleasure ship? One that you donât necessarily ship in canon but wouldnât mind reading fanfiction for?
donât think i have one, honestly?Â
7. Can Chuck be redeemed in your eyes? Any caveats or things that would need to happen to make this count?
yeah, itâs really interesting answer this question post 2x18, but---yes, i definitely think chuck can be redeemed. i never wanted him to be a villain in the first place, for so, so many reasons.Â
i mean, comics!chuck was a deliberate bucking of specific stereotypes that riverdale slid right back into without seeming to think about what it was they were saying by doing that. (related readings: x) and then the way they did it---ack.Â
outside of the vacuum of comics vs. show, i think that where weâre at culturally, weâre really asking men to unlearn their toxic masculinity. especially of adolescents who are still growing and changing---and what chuck did was certainly part of the vacuum of male privilege/toxic masculinity, but he faced consequences for that, and then he acknowledged it. actively has announced he wants to change, and i genuinely believe it at this point.Â
and while i wish chuck wasnât the character theyâre doing this with in the first place, âcancelled cultureâ can be really frustrating because itâs way too binary. it undermines the growth and self-crit we want people to be doing.Â
obviously, it doesnât apply unilaterally, some people are abusive or cruel or malicious to the point where they lose their ability to profit off of it, and rightfully so---but with a character like chuck, whose main crime appeared to just be slut shaming, i actually appreciate a narrative where a male character owns up to how that was bad, why it was wrong, and how theyâre going to change.Â
8. What is a storyline youâd like to see most explored on the show?
just---more familial dynamics. i cannot wait for gladys and JB, i think thatâs going to be so meaty and tragic and emotional in the right ways. i want more of polly and bettyâs relationship, and/or how betty feels watching her sister run away constantly, or just their dynamic in general. more of archie and fred navigating dreams vs. reality. i kinda donât love veronicaâs parents tho, and iâm not sure where they could take that in a way that i enjoy.Â
9. What is your favourite Riverdale fanfic trope or cliché?
pining, man. just. pining.Â
10. What is existing scene or storyline would you rewrite to better suit your tastes?
HAH. how much time do we haveÂ
BONUS: Â Archie starts a band. He settles on âThe Archiesâ but what were some of the other suggestions for the band name? Name three songs that show up on their debut album.
jugheadâs suggestion is: red drum, red drum and he thinks itâs hilarious
three songs: midnight ride, smoking gun, and canât fly
my 11 questions for my taggeesÂ
1. which twist did you least see coming? genuinely.Â
2. we all know riverdale loves hopscotching through genre elements (true crime, musical, grease, etc), and sometimes itâs too much, but which has been your favorite? what other ones would you like to see from the show?
3. riverdale does dirty on its secondary characters. what storylines would you give to reggie, kevin, josie, etc? or, what would you like to see for them in s3? anything you thought the show really fumbled? did right?
4. what are your backstory headcanons for sweet pea, fangs, and toni?
5. whatâs your theory on the old riverdale riots?
6. itâs the ten year high school reunion. where did everyone go to college? (core four + the secondary pals) whatâs your headcanon for their future careers? whoâs still together? who wishes they were still together? who hooks up unexpectedly in a storage closet?Â
7. whatâs a storyline you just didnât buy this season?
8. any headcanons for the riverparents? like, how they grew up, who they were in high school, why they went the directions they did?
9. whatâs one trope that youâd wish the show would do? or something you wish you saw more in fic?
10. thoughts on reggie? will he ever be fleshed out? will it make him more of a villain, or less of one?
11. if you could have anything happen in s3, what would it be?
and i tag @village-skeptic @stillscape @sylwrites @lessoleilscouchants @myrmidonofmelodrama @heartunsettledsoul @raptorlily (tagging back, bc i want your answers on these too!) @theatreofexpressionâ @imreallyloveleeeâÂ
