Scout is an artist (or just enjoys drawing) because Spy is also an artist.

Let me explain:

I think Spy's disguises might work with little designs he needs to make himself: the more detailed the drawing, the more accurate the disguise is.

Of course he could simply pay someone to draw for him, but I imagine that when he was younger and had a worse salary, he needed to make them himself and couldn't comission anyone.

So yeah, he's an artist and Scout inherited that love for drawing from him.

ok the spirit possessed me with this sick idea: so the reason why spy doesn’t share his real name with anyone (even without the fact he keeps his past secret) is that. He doesn’t fucking know it yet. He’s so particular about making sure he has a perfect one to encapsulate him and he hasn’t found one yet. So he just goes by spy. “But what about when he was with scouts mom?” Good question, I propose this: he and scouts mom both met each other before they transitioned, and when they got eloped they switched their birth certificates and went by each others deadnames. But when he left he felt too guilty to keep going by it so he just started calling himself spy.
