Don't apologize! I, for one, *love* your tag metas on Emily! And gahh you're so right about Emily self-regulating and making things harder for herself. But also maybe liking the struggle too.

I don't think Emily was told 'no' but I can see how, in so many ways, Elizabeth Prentiss would have set up a bunch of rules that Emily *must* follow. Emily knows about High Society Rules. And, she can slip into those roles so seamlessly. She can be talking to other politicians and the next night she'd be putting on eyeliner and teasing her hair up to go to a concert that her mother would not approve of, and never know she went to.

Absolutely, I think Elizabeth was such a foundational piece of why Emily was such a successful spy. Her mother's political career, paired with her own natural (or nurtured, or a bit of both) inclination toward contradiction of anything thrown at her for the struggle of it all, really taught her to live in multiple worlds. And then, having to move around all the time leading to her desire to, and problems with, fitting in...no wonder Emily can become whoever she needs to become when it's required of her 🥺

#i've been thinking so much lately about emily trying to fit into the team and how she doesn't really settle until later in s4#especially in regards to her intelligence#like she tells morgan that she can ~hide being a nerd and she really does! but it's such an interesting situation with the team#because she has to prove herself to hotch (and gideon) and be great at the job from the start. so she kind of ends up muting herself?#because she never shows off just how bright she is. she makes herself blend - she's great at chess but her comment about reid#losing to gideon in 3 moves just slips out. she's good with statistics but she doesn't prove that to reid until s4 when she#corrects the odds from 'like 100 to 1' to '97 to 1'#but more than just not showing off she makes SUCH an effort to be playful#she laughs and pokes fun so much from the get go#s2-s4 emily is like such a perfect blend of the 15yo willing to do anything to be liked#and the spy who just put her entire soul into her last mission and has shoved every part of herself into a series of boxes#to be opened with caution and a carefully weighed cost-benefit analysis#(and i've been having Thoughts about how she read the bau room and immediately pegged that reid was the one she needed to win over#to win over everyone else (and that she decided not competing with his brilliance was the way to do that)#((and AND i think about how that was the wrong choice and she ended up figuring that out when she realized that just because reid's a geniu#doesn't mean that he values his brain as much as his connections to the team!))#and then almost /immediately/ and through no fault of her own became the sole focus of his anger after hankel!!)#whoops i really didn't intend to ramble so much but it's been a day of emily/reid feels akjfkaf;#wordles#~ (via @wistfulwatcher)
