"lesbians on radblr who hate on OSA relationships live in countries where they can freely be in same-sex relationships so they don't understand the economic cost of living single" this is a weird argument to me, I'm Finnish (live in a country where same-sex marriage is legal etc.) and I have read many women who broke up with their man (not being married while having a kid is rather common here) say living costs less after dumping him because men eat so much (lmao) and because he uses all his extra money on his hobbies anyway when mothers use it on home/children. and they always add "losing an "extra child" also made living less stressful" sooooo
💯💯💯
I went to a comedy show on Friday night and a Chinese-born woman who moved to Australia as an adult was speaking about how she chooses not to date men (occasionally fucks them but who cares) and she’s not even a radical feminist. She also said in her set how men who only want a hairless pussy are pedophiles.
The idea that radical feminists are the only women who see the problem with things like shaving, therefore that’s enough to call yourself one, is wild to me. Regular women aren’t fucking idiots. My pretty conservative mum agrees on some radfem talking points. She doesn’t think prostitution is empowering and feels sorry for them. She doesn’t think anyone can change their sex and finds it offensive that men can think womanhood is just wearing makeup and a dress.
What separates radical feminists from regular women should be doing controversial, pro-woman stuff like boycotting intimate relationships with men. Sure, I’m lucky because I was born lesbian so never had to make the choice. But there are a lot of febfem/celibates on this website and there are even non-radfem women IRL who choose singledom. So why the fuck can’t a supposed radical feminist?

Buddy Daddies - OST - Song Titles: Translations & Info.
Tumblr media
A few days ago, they put up a teaser video with some of the songs from the Buddy Daddies OST playing. They also provided this image above, which has all the song titles listed. I’ve translated them all and have provided some interesting insight and information when and where I could. If anyone else has any more info on these titles, or extra insight, feel free to add on to this! :D
So, first, here are the song titles:
1. Buddy Daddies Theme
2. Commencing Pursuit
3. Under Interrogation
4. SHARK ATTACK
5. Ska De Buddy
6. Buddy & Daddies Act. 1
7. Knight of Dragon Emblem
8. Funk Me Up! Feat. Nick Green
9. Jazzy & Daddies
10. Jingle Bells
11. Watermelon Woman
12. Let’s Cooking
13. Targets in the Dark
14. Silent Night
15. Undercover Investigation
16. Strolling Waltz
17. Battle of Spanish Joint
18. Welcome Home, Daddy
19. Comfort in My Heart
20. Franny! Rudolph! Francesco!
21. Mystery of Spanish Joint
22. Stand Off
23. Caprice Waltz
24. Country & Daddies
25. Diversionary Tactics
26. Start Strategy
27. Twilight Sunset
28. Requiem
29. Nocturne
30. Good Luck Charm
31. Wake Me Up to Hit the Town
32. Secret Maneuvers
33. 24 Hours
34. Don’t Say Goodbye (Japanese Translated Title)
35. Don’t Say Goodbye (English Title)
Some more interesting info on some of these titles under the Read More!
First we have the “Knight of Dragon Emblem” title. This makes me think of Fire Emblem (a video game series that I am not overly familiar with, I just know the name) and dragon imagery. Dragon imagery is associated with strength, courage, magic, and all of that kind of stuff. While a knight protects.
Second we have “Watermelon Woman,” when I looked this up, I found a Wikipedia page on a 1996 romantic-comedy drama called “The Watermelon Woman.” This is a movie that was written, edited, and directed by Cheryl Dunye:
a Liberian-American film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and actress. Dunye's work often concerns themes of race, sexuality, and gender, particularly issues relating to black lesbians. She is known as the first out black lesbian to ever direct a feature film with her 1996 film The Watermelon Woman. She runs the production company Jingletown Films based in Oakland California.
(From Wikipedia, which will be linked to below).
She also stars as the lead role in the film. The lead character is Cheryl who is a “young black lesbian.”
Tumblr media
This is the song that plays when Carol and Dorothy show up. Interesting. In the movie, Cheryl explores a lesbian relationship with a white woman Hmm....
But it also plays during stuff like Miri’s daycare interview with Miss Anna. So, I don’t know if there might be some other reference as well.
It could be an indicator of musical influence as well. At least, I definitely think that the song titles Battle of Spanish Joint and Mystery of Spanish Joint come from a song by D’Angelo that came out in 2011. The song is titled, “Spanish Joint,” and you can definitely hear some of the musical influences there.
youtube
The lyrics are rather interesting, especially if you think about them in connection to Buddy Daddies.
One song is titled Requiem, which has a few meanings:
Tumblr media
Text:
(especially in the Roman Catholic Church) a Mass for the repose of the souls of the dead."a requiem was held for the dead queen"
a musical composition setting parts of a requiem Mass, or of a similar character."Fauré's Requiem"
an act or token of remembrance."he designed the epic as a requiem for his wife"
The second meaning is likely the meaning they are going with here.
Nocturne is a musical composition that is meant to invoke the night.
“Don’t Say Goodbye” is the song that Miri’s mother sings in the snack bar back in Episode 3. We get the extra lyric of: “I wanna spend as much time as possible...” Given the current situation she is in, with cancer and wanting Miri back, etc. This song seems like it will be reflective of her feelings in regards to all of those things. I hope we get a full version of it in the actual series itself too!

Was tagged by a few people for this so... time to nerd out. :D
What’s up readers?! How about a little show and tell? Answer these 13 questions, tag 13 lucky readers and if you’re feeling extra bookish add a shelfie! Let’s Go!
Last book I read: Fever by Jordan L. Hawk (Wow, that was... a while ago. Hertie can tell you.)
A book I recommend: uhhh this is highly dependent on genre and who I'm recommending this to! but off the top of my head I GUESS--
The Princess Bride by William Goldman if you want a gentle, humorous, fantasy reading. (recommended for fans of 80s/90s fantasy films)
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller if you want to have a good time with absurdist comedy that then destroys you :] (recommended for fans of MASH that didn't hate the finale)
Summer of Night by Dan Simmons for Kids In A Horror Situation Doing Something About It (recommended for fans of It and Stranger Things.)
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier for good ol' fashioned classic gothic/mystery. (recommended for... hmm. People who like to see things go to pieces in unexpected ways?)
A book that I couldn't put down: I generally read books in one sitting. So most of them?
A book I've read twice or more: I reread books consistently. If it's out somewhere I can reach for it, I'll just start reading it again. But uhhh the Chronicles of Narnia? Definitely reread those a lot.
A book on my TBR: Sabriel by Garth Nix.
A book I've put down: Not too many, but I definitely have. I forget them pretty quickly.
A book on my wish list: Once upon a time I would have said Strange Fate by L.J Smith. For the wee me that waited 20+ years for it, if it ever does come out, I'll absolutely read it. Just not excited for it anymore.
A favorite book from childhood: A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. One of the rare occasions I love the book and the movie equally.
A book you would give to a friend: INDECISION PARALYSIS AHOY. I dunno, honestly. All my friends are very different people. No one book fits all.
a book of poetry or lyrics that you own: none :( I should! But I don't.
a non-fiction book you own: Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg.
What are you currently reading: Don't Look Now by Daphne du Maurier. I'm always surprised that she was such a modern writer.
What are you planning on reading next? Either The Broken Girls by Simone St. James or Burn for Me by Ilona Adrews. (Yes, friend, FINALLY) Maybe also a reread of Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, but in english, this time. First and last time I read it I was 8. Probably due for a revisit.
TAGGING: @heretolurkandnothingmore, @jamesbbarne @dark--whisperings @usakostar @thedunesea @sugarpsalms @skyerie @mollysunder @silvipeppers @darthwillies @eggchayi @laysidel-dekie @barmadumet and anyone else that feels like doing it. <3

Hi there! I’m running a Christmas one-shot for a few mates of mine. I’ve told them to make DnD characters because it’s the system they are familiar with (I play a greater variety of systems then they do and I’m determined to infect them with indie ttrpgs eventually). Even though it’s DnD, I was wondering if you knew any cool Christmas related systems I could read up on and maybe borrow a rule or two from and graft in to make the one shot a bit more interesting?
So far I’m thinking either a standard “the magic is fading” plot line or an office comedy, both based in Santas workshop. If you can’t think of anything don’t worry, I’m going to have a look through my library either way and see what I can find.
Love this blog! ❤️
THEME: Christmas Games
Hello friend! This one-shot idea sounds so cool! Let's see what we've got to work with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh Holy… What Happened Last Night? By OopsAllSmurph.
Santa’s out of town until the night of Christmas Eve, but he left you all, a group of his most trusted North Pole townsfolk, in charge of the North Pole until he got back. You did what anyone would do with a magical city at their fingertips -- throw a MASSIVE rager. After a little too much eggnog, you’ve all woken up with 2 problems: A massive hangover, and a North Pole in disrepair.
You’ve got until midnight tonight, Christmas Eve, to put the North Pole back to the way it was (or hide it well enough nobody will noticed) so Santa can leave for his trip around the world without a hitch!
This a simple one-page game that might work well as inspiration for your office comedy idea, perhaps if your characters have to help all the inhabitants of the North Pole get cleaned up before Santa comes back. You can roll randomly for lost and broken items, and add extra obstacles like find all the stray reindeer, put kids’ names back on the toys, and pay the Grinch his protection money!
Elf in Your Self, by StarshineScribbles.
The Elf:  Fear it. Run from it. No matter what you do, You can't escape it.
Every Christmas, the Elf arrives out of nowhere.  Sitting on your shelf. Leering at you. Trying to make you behave. Trying to enforce compliance with some half-remembered dogma about Naughty and Nice lists.  Also, it might be possessed by a demon…
The only way to return peace to your home is to destroy it before it takes control of your mind.
Elf In Your Self is a game about a dark version of everyone's favorite surveillance-based Christmas decoration.  Players will use a deck of cards to tell the story of their attempts to banish this evil force from their homes. But beware, one wrong move and you may become possessed by the Elf!
This feels like a game of collaborative go-fish but with a horror-movie twist. You are attempting to put together a ritual that will weaken the Elf in an attempt to get rid of it by the end of the game, but your players will become possessed by the Elf if they are forced to draw from more resources. I suppose you could use this as a mini-game inside a larger story about an Elf that has been causing havoc in Santa’s workshop, or perhaps use the idea of a big bad demon harassing a Christmas Town by possessing an innocent villager.
Christmas Goons, by hechlok.
The wizard Santiclous is looking for a mysterious artifact to light on the top of the Christmas tree - help him save the magic of Christmas!
Ruins, machines, lost gnomes, and Christmas presents await you. Let's get to it, Christmas Goons!
Christmas Goons is a short dungeon crawl that brings your characters through the ruins of a gnomish inventor’s home base. This adventure is designed for Tunnel Goons, but the dungeon map looks like it could be used for any game you like. There are details for each room, with suggested obstacles that you might be able to re-skin for the game of your choice. The adventure is also free!
Oh Bring Us Some Figgy Pudding, by Tim Obermueller.
Over seven nights, you are trying to defend your figgy pudding from increasingly hostile carolers. Good luck!
This is a tactical game of pudding defense, with increasing levels of difficulty as the carolers whittle away at your skills over seven nights. I could see this being some kind of possession or zombie storyline, with the carolers having a mindless fixation on the pudding, and your characters have to spend seven nights/rounds of combat fending them off with different tactics.
A Christmas Belonging, by dannymakesrpgs.
A Christmas Belonging gives you snow covered landscapes, quaint small towns, and the low stakes high drama experience of a made-for-TV Christmas movie. Recreate those cheerful stories of romance and family drama in this collaborative, zero-prep RPG.
This is a diceless game about someone who prioritizes work over family, coming from the big city into a small Christmas town, where they meet someone who changes their outlook on Christmas - and on life. Extremely trophy, extremely cheesy, and great for folks who love taking a genre and pushing it as far as it can go.
I’m not entirely sure how to incorporate this into a traditional D&D game, but perhaps it might be a subplot that goes on in the background; perhaps an adventurer who is here just for treasure meets a cute local who wants them to slow down and experience the meaningful magic of a local holiday. Perhaps this cute local’s magic ritual is exactly what is needed to solve the adventurer’s problem!
You Will Be Haunted by Three Spirits, by Meghan Cross.
You Will be Haunted by Three Spirits is a GMless game for three players about changing the heart of someone who desperately needs it. Each player will take on the role of a spirit as well as collaboratively taking on the  role of the individual being haunted by the spirits.
It is roleplay heavy, GMless game that is played in three rounds as each of the spirits reaches out to the Haunted in an attempt to soften their heart and convince them to change their ways. All that is needed for play is this game text and a set of dice. Players will each take on the role of one of the visiting spirits as well as collaboratively playing the role of the Haunted as they are visited by the spirits attempting to save their soul and change their heart.
This is probably my favourite holiday trope. It is probably the most heartfelt game on this list, and the least likely to travel into goofy territory. The biggest obstacle to using this game its that it requires three players only if you play as written - one to be the Past, one to be the Present, and on to be the Spirit of What Is To Come.
However, if you want to use it as inspiration, you might set up the party with the job of convincing their Haunted to change their ways so that the magic of Christmas is returned before it is too late. You could have some characters taking on the embodiment of different Spirits, while others work to bring about the miraculous events of the past, present and future. If you want to embody some of the magic and warmth of Christmas, this might be the game for you.

A Guide to Fanfiction Tropes and Genres:
🟪I made this cuz honestly, why not lol. For people who are beginners to the fanfiction universe. For anyone who wants to get a glimpse of what this world is like and the common themes used in this "off-the-wall piece of literature". Could be for research purposes or for curiosity, or maybe you want to start writing stuff but not sure what things you might use. No matter who is reading this, I hope this guide helps you.
--I also made this for myself, as a lil handbook to look at while categorizing the fanfics i collect in my blog.
🟦There are genres/topes/themes which you won't be seeing much or any at all particularly in my blog; but I wanted to add them to the lists anyways because they are widely used in fanfiction. I tried to include the main, most common things used in fanfics. Because in reality, the possibilities in a fanfic are endless.
--Many of these are self explanatory so I didn't add extra info to most of them.
This may be used by other fandoms as well. Since this is a Jungkook based account, he is used for some of the examples. You can replace him with anyone you wish to write/read about.
🟥I added most things myself from the knowledge accumulated through my years of experience in fanfiction consumption. For the things I thought I might have missed, I used multiple websites and a reddit post as a referance, which I will credit their links at the very end.
🟫Shoutout to chatgpt for alphabetizing my lists in the end. It would take me ages to edit this
🟩 If you think there is anything I missed, feel free to contact me, I can always edit this post to add new things.
PS: I chose to omit much of the specificities of explicit content (such as specific kinks). I tried to keep things a bit chill. Most likely the authors will include the details of the explicit events in their explanation section. You will know what they are when you see them.

(e.g. Jessica, blond hair, brown eyes, etc.) However i have seen many fanfics where the author writes “Jungkook x OC” in the explanations but the character throughout the story is in fact written like a self-insert/YN/reader with little to no physical descriptions.
Jungkook X Reader (Y/N or “_____” )
AFAB- assigned female at birth
Jungkook X gender neutral reader/character

Can I request a match-up for Baldur's Gate 3 & Obey Me please?
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Straight (Please exclude Raphael, Emperor, Cazador, Thorm, and the Withers!)
Appearance: I'm a skinny woman who looks like a teenager despite being in my late twenties. My height is like 154cm. I have dark armpit length hair that's tied in a low ponytail. I have big eyes, and I wear wide frame glasses. My nose shape is fleshy nose. I wear oversized t-shirts, baggy pants, and sport shoes
(MBTI &/or Engram if you would like to take the tests and add it) : INFP-T
Personality: I'm shy, timid, quiet & polite to strangers. With people I'm comfortable with, I'm loud, outgoing, playful, mature, responsible, motherly(to naughty friends), childlike(to mature friends/family) and sarcastic (unintentionally).
I'm kinda tomboyish as I wear over-sized t-shirts, baggy pants, sneakers but don't play sports or video games. I'm a slow learner, not smart, not strong, and not talented. I'm pretty dense, straightforward, oblivious, and naive too.
I get confused or misunderstand what people meant easily so it's best if you tell me straight to my face so I can't be mistaken. I'm also touch starved as I love giving & receiving affection but I only can hug one person and even then, I do my best to not overdo it.
I'm a hopeless romantic, sensitive, forgetful, & overthink often. I work as hard as I can & try my best & be careful as I can to everything I do, as I'm pretty clumsy & makes mistakes more often than most people. I try to help my family and friends as they've helped me & cared for me dearly.
I try to communicate properly & ask for their consent first before doing anything because I misunderstood that I had their permission before. I do my best to give people the benefit of doubt but I do have my limits. I don't really get angry often that even my family & friends are surprised when it happens once in a blue moon.
I don't believe in compliments I get occasionally or why my family & friends care for me because I don't see good things in myself only bad things.
Likes (at least like three things): music, fanfiction, manga, anime, cartoons, books (If I find it interesting), family, friends, potato chips, chocolate, cakes, bread, anyone who is kind, patient, supportive, helpful, tries at least, trustworthy, responsible, fair in general, respectful, flexible, honest, open-minded, humble, sincere, accepting, thoughtful, encouraging, forgiving, careful, understanding, wise, mature, cooperative, caring, etc. That's more but that's all I could think of.
Dislikes (at least three things): anyone who's rude, disrespectful, doesn't listen to others, refuse to admit mistakes, blames others for their mistakes, ignores people yet demands attention from them, demanding, won't acknowledge what you said, hypocritical, biased, irresponsible, careless, disloyal, inconsiderate, insensitive, inflexible, petty, hostile, untrustworthy, immature, uncooperative, unforgiving, judgemental, narrow-minded, self-centred, unethical, self-righteous, etc. That's more but that's all I could think of.
Hobbies : drawing, reading manga, listening to music, fanfics especially reader inserts, and watching anime, movies, & cartoons. My favourite genre is romance but I love comedy, mystery, action, sci-fi, fantasy, and historical too! My favourite music genre is pop, but I also love ballads, & alternative rock!
Extra fun fact (this is about whoever you are describing to me): I'm kinda perverted which contrasts my innocent & baby face. I keep it to myself though. I always need to let the cinema employees check my identity card to verify my age whenever I watch a R-rated movie.
Although a kind stranger realises I'm older than I looked when we talked about how I didn't lashed out in anger at someone who didn't do anything wrong to me because I know how it felt to be in that position.
Please and thank you!
It's finally the weekend!!! I am ready to pump out some content for my favorite people!
~~~~~ MATCH UP ~~~~~
For your Baldurs Gate 3 match up I chose this person due to their great sarcasm, loyalty, stubbornness, and deep understanding of struggling with self love.
I match you with-------
Tumblr media
Astration Ancunin (Non Ascended)
~~~~~ Headcanon ~~~~~
The first time he met you, he thought you were a child until he got up close to you and realized you were just a very innocent-looking adult.
Astarion can't remember the last time he had a mother, he has only experienced 200 years of being a slave and being hurt.
Astarion loves it when you mom him. He will act like he doesn't, but he secretly craves for someone to take care of him and not let the bad eat him alive anymore.
The dry sarcasm king will attempt many battles of wits with you only to get frustrated that you're just slightly better, so he resorts to flirting and cheap tactics.
Astarion also struggles with compliments. He knows he must be attractive because of the number of people he has taken to his master, but he just can't see past the monster he thinks he is.
Due to his own issues with self-image, he takes extra care to describe clearly and in detail what he loves about you and finds beautiful.
~~~~~ BLURB ~~~~~
Your group had safely reached the east bridge leading you into Baldurs Gate. Worn down, hungry, and quite the smelly group, you sought refuge at the first tavern. As you entered the building, it was apparent how costly this would be. Looking at your dwindling coin pouch and your exhausted companions, you sucked it up and went to the tavern keeper. "We need eight beds, please." You gently placed your coin pouch on the table, separating you two. The tavern clerk looked through your coins and set down 4 keys. "This all I gots for ya, kiddo. Why someone as young as you got so much gold." Sighing dramatically, you grabbed the keys. "I am an adult, sir."
You walked over to reconvene with your group, giving them the bad news of the bed situation. Lazel and Shadowheart, having worked through their differences, offered to sleep together. Gale and Halsin had just started discussing the inner workings of combining nature with the weave, which they used as a reason to pair up. Wyll and Karlach had so much sexual tension after their joined union that it would be unfair to separate them. Leaving you and the pale elf left to share. You all made it to your rooms, hoping to get a good night's rest. As you entered, you began to make a pallet on the floor. "Love, I can not allow you to sleep on the floor." You smirked, continuing, "Good, I didn't ask for permission." Astarion scoffed before grabbing your pallet materials and plopping them on the bed. You whipped around to look at him.
"Love, you do so much for our group; you keep us going and me going. If I let you sleep on the ground and wear out your back, I would not only face the wrath of the group and myself but also not be able to live with myself as your partner." Hearing the sincerity in his voice, you smiled softly. You made your way over to the bed, and as you sat down, you grabbed his arm and brought him with you. "Then I say we share a bed; I know we said we'd go slow with anything more, but some cuddles, I think, would do us both some good." Nodding at you with a soft smile, Astarion positioned himself on the bed, allowing you to curl up into him. Honestly, it was the best night of sleep of your life.
~~~~~ EXTRA ~~~~~
(After the final battle, sitting outside admiring the moon with Astarion, you two imagine what nightlife will mean for you now.)
Astarion: I never thought the day would come when I wouldn't need to watch my back.
Y/N: I am proud of you for the choice you made. Together, we can accomplish anything. We just gotta believe in each other.
(Astarion snorts and lays back on the ground)
Astarion: You sound like a school teacher, which is ironic cause you look like a school kid.
(Gasping in shock and smacking his arm lightly)
Y/N: How dare you? There are no cuddles for you tonight.
For your Obey Me! matchup, I chose someone super intelligent and nonjudgmental—unless you're Mammon. He is possessive, especially when his eldest brother notices what is his and cares about what he finds oh-so-cute.
I match you with------
Tumblr media
Satan
~~~~~ HEADCANON ~~~~~
It is no lie that Satan is obsessed with cats. He thinks they are the most perfect innocent creatures in the world.
Innocent creatures, innocent girlfriends; what I am getting at is he tried to get you to dress up as a kitten once or twice.
He loves to read with you; he will even help you transcribe books from the devildom you can't read.
Satan is to the point with his brothers, other demons, and especially his partner. The only time satan doesn't talk directly to anyone is when it involves one of his insecurities.
He is a sarcastic man. I mean, come on, we see it in the game. From calling out Mammon to pointing out things Beel does, he makes sure to lace it all with sarcasm.
If you mess up anything in his presence, he is very gentle with you. he knows how frustrating it can be to mess up and how infuriating it is when someone talks down to you like a child.
Satan's wrath comes out almost instantly when he hears someone wrong you, whether that is them calling you a child or making you mad.
~~~~~ BLURB ~~~~~
You had been visiting the nearby grocery store with Satan, shopping for dinner tonight. Satan asked you kindly to help him with dinner, and how could you not agree? As you perused the aisle with Satan, looking for what he would cook, you couldn't help but get distracted by the flower section.
Of course, the devildom had some similar flowers as they did in the mortal realm, but most were new to you and quite interesting. As you looked over the flowers, you began to give yourself a mini test on their names and properties, seeing as you and Satan had just finished transcribing a book on devildom flowers. You pulled back and looked around once you had gotten through most of the flowers. Satan was gone; you were in an unfamiliar place, and a shady demon approached you. Shit. Preparing yourself for the encounter, you went back to the flowers. Maybe he will lose interest if you don't interact.
"Heya doll, whatcha doing buying some flowers for mommy." You turned around to face the demon irritation tight on your brow. The demon looked shocked before smirking."Not flowers for mommy, but maybe flowers for yourself. Don't have a man who could buy these for you?" You scoffed at the redicouls notion, "Excuse me but I don't need a man to buy me flowers I can buy them myself. However, I have a man who would be more than happy too." The demon pulled back, looking around you, noticing no one in sight. "Looks like you got no one who would I hates to break it to you." As the demon bent back down in your face, ready to make a wildly inappropriate proposition to you, he suddenly went flying across the store.
Before you stood Satan in his complete form, breathing heavily. "Leave her alone; she doesn't want to talk to a lowlife like you." Looking up at your partner, you couldn't help but smile softly. As Satan turned to look at you, he slowly transformed and grabbed your hand, muttering a soft "I'll get you flowers before we leave."
~~~~~ EXTRA ~~~~~
(You and satan had decided that after reading an excellent book together, you would watch the movie adaption next. Satan went to collect food for the occasion as you got the theater room ready. Walking in with a large amount of snacks, you were surprised it wasn't Beel helping instead)
Y/N: Woah, love, let me help you with all of that
(Helping take some of the load off of Satan's arms, you noticed all of your favorite foods and very little of Satan's.)
Satan: I may have gone overboard trying to make sure Beel didn't eat your snacks, which I paid little attention to on my own.
Y/N: (holding back a laugh) Don't worry, love, I am more than willing to share.
I hope you like it! I am so glad to be back in the writing groove. Twenty-four hours of no stories and facing off with a storm was far too much for me, lol!
Is "The Incal" prototype Philip J. Fry?
So, I finished reading The Incal and I noticed some...parallels that no one else appears to be talking about.
This is John Difool, protagonist of 1980 trippy french sci-fi adventure The Incal, written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Jean Giraud (aka Mœbius).
Tumblr media
He is a private detective and one of the most important people in the universe, anointed by celestial powers save the human race, die and be revived multiple times, and has witnessed the destruction and recreation of the universe multiple times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this, he something of a coward and a hedonist, only wanting to drink, smoke, and get laid. The only thing really motivates him to rise to his potential is best friend, a concrete seagull and his on again off again girlfriend, who he met in a sewer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Contrast this with Philip J. Fry, protagonist of 1999 animated sci-fi comedy television show Futurama, created by Matt Groening.
Tumblr media
He is a delivery boy and also one of the most important people in the universe, being anointed by fate to save the human race, die and be revived multiple times, and has witnessed the destruction and recreation of the universe multiple times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this, he is generally a slob who is only interested in drinking, eating, watching TV, and trying to get laid.
Tumblr media
The only thing that really motivates him to rise to his potential is his girlfriend, who originally came from a sewer.
Tumblr media
Also, his original best friend is also a dog made out of rock.
Tumblr media
I don't see anyone else talking about this parallel, but now that I see it I can't unsee it and it adds a whole new extra layer to my readings of both Futurama and The Incal.
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Part 3 of Waku Puyo Extras. (And a fairly big announcement for translations.)
Tumblr media
Ah, I'm running out of images, the Waku Puyo images, so the tride and true "Post Manga panels I do understand," got me covered. If I don't got anyone on my side, I know the Waku Puyo Manga does. Amen.
(Context for this page and a few others is Satan having a nightmare about Schezo and Arle marrying, and wakes up in a cold sweat. It's so goofy, and seems exactly like a Satan Nightmare, but the art goes hard.)
Heya, Gren here, and welcome to Part 3 of Waku Puyo Extras, the series where I find random videos about a route and go off from there because, even though I'm in the English Puyo Puyo Community Discord and have been lurking in the lore channel for like 3 years, I'm not verified yet because I'm scared to speak to the Ciel Bot. So if a mod or something SOMEHOW sees this...what're the odds for one, and two, idk we can talk via DM's or somethin' about lore.
(I really do want to speak there someday. Seems fun, I'll probably quietly add some details for this game onto specific characters pages.)
That aside, I'm here today to provide the community with more text and stuff to read.
Today's post will cover the following scraps I found while looking for stuff:
A video where Serilly appears again. Once again, Schezo and Serilly speak to each other, small but interesting.
A video that has a Rulue encounter and...that's about it. I'm really looking for scraps. Today doesn't have a whole lot.
Talk about the Manga for a bit. I plan to do this for most of the Extra Episodes, since it seems fun to do. Gonna specifically talk about Schezo and Serilly because...you know with everything going on, I think it's a nice start.
However, the scraps will become actual meals sooner or later because of two simple reasons. The first is that there's a whole video I'll translate that...has ALL 3 CHARACTERS...trading with Witch, starting next week, and that'll be Waku Puyo Extras Episode 4.
Yeah this girl really won't leave alone, its been like half a year of this stuff. Oh, what I do to translate. Oh and the video has Succubus too IG
Witch still is my 3rd favorite character though for the lunacy I've dealt with from her. Joking aside:
The REAL announcement:
About 2 weeks from now, I'll be trying my best to translate Arle's Route for this silly game.
That's right, I'm gonna do another Route that totally didn't take me 6 months to finish the main storyline. Waku Puyo Extras will still be real, trust me, but they'll be like filler episodes like in Dragon Ball, bits I release if the current video I'm translating is taking too long and/or if I just randomly feel like it. I will still also be doing minor Schezo Route stuff as well, and still take requests for all routes, so as usual, if you got a goofy screenshot to send me, DM me.
Big announcement away, it's time for the videos themselves, starting with:
Serilly Stuff:
youtube
...I did say I'm scraping for stuff. These things are so miniscule in the grand scheme that you could probably come to these posts just for the comedy act I try to put up.
The episode posted has been fully translated already, being Episode 3, for the record. Imma just translate the Serilly stuff.
But with that;
Timestamps: (...They're at the start of the video, but there's 2 different occasions, so...rip?)
Serilly 1: (0:05)
Serilly 2 (0:32)
...I wish I were kidding, it's that little. Lmao
With that out of the way, this marks the Readmore section of the post. Thanks for reading if you're not interested, and let's continue if you're enjoying this.
Serilly 1: (0:05)
Schezo:
This is such clean water, I can cleanse my heart there...
...Wait! What's a Dark Mage doing getting cleansed!?
Woman's Voice:
What're you doing here huffing by yourself?
Schezo:
Hm? I remember this voice from Water Paradise...
Serilly:
It's me, Serilly.
Schezo:
Oh, what're you doing here?
Serilly:
When I'm here, it feels like my mind and body are at ease.
Schezo:
...Yeah, seems like it.
Serilly:
I know, right?
(...And so, Schezo talked to Serilly for a bit.)
Schezo:
...I better get going.
Serilly;
Okay, but...come back soon!
Schezo:
Yeah, if I ever feel like it.
-----
Serilly 2:
Serilly:
Oh! Mr. Schezo!
Schezo:
Hey.
Serilly:
You're really here again!
Schezo:
(W-Why am I blushing!?)
Serilly:
???
(Schezo had a small chat with Serilly.)
Schezo:
...I'd better get going.
Serilly:
Okay, but...come back soon!
Schezo:
Yeah, if I feel like it.
-----
Yeah, so some speech repeats itself at the end, but hey, Schezo seems to enjoy her company, a rarity nowadays. I'll go deeper when the manga portion comes up but so far, that's what you're getting.
And now, The Rulue Stuff:
youtube
This goofy video here is actually Episode 6 of the translations I've done here. I just missed a single talk coming from Schezo and Rulue. (Not even Minotauros. Guy is just nothing now.)
I'm not gonna timestamp this one because it's a SINGLE interaction at the start. I promise I'll make this up somehow.
So, with that...here's the interaction.
-----
Rulue Interaction: (Start of the video)
Rulue:
Oh, you haven't given up your chase, have you?
Schezo:
Mind your own business. In fact, you should be the one to give up!
Rulue:
No more from you. That magical item will be mine.
Oh-ho-ho-ho, good luck on your wasted endeavors. (She says efforts here but...why not make her sound more sophisticated?)
Schezo:
That magic item will be useless for a meathead like you.
Yes, for the sake of the treasure, I cannot lose!
-----
And...that's all for the translations. Not much, but I'll compensate with the manga.
For those who are unaware, Waku Puyo has a manga that wildly differs from the story of the game. Lot of characters got redesigns, most notably Witch, Incubus and Honey Bee have a MUCH bigger role, Lagnus is real, and tags along with Arle, (I'll talk about that next Extras Episode.) and even some new faces.
Since the 10 image limit is goofy, I'm gonna limit myself to specific things about the Manga. Plan is:
Talk about Schezo and Serilly because there seems to be a lot with them going on in Waku Puyo as a whole. I'll also mention Honey Bee too.
Lagnus tagging along with Arle, along with a couple of goofy pages I found.
Maybe Rulue's side of stuff...? This one I'm iffy on right now so currently it's in the air.
Since I'm unfortunately incredibly committed to my work, I decided to translate the Serilly section of Volume 2 and 3 of the Waku Puyo Manga. (For the most part...)
Here's how it goes.
It actually starts with Serilly hearing noises from the lower floors and becomes nervous at that fact, hoping her only friend, Satan, will come to help her. Schezo and Honey Bee (his ally who has the hots for him,) find her and realize that during the fight with Suketoudara, he said that she isn't exactly a fighter, and they should try to reason with her.
Due to the 10 image limit, I'm skipping a good amount of pages and really showing off highlights. However, I'll explain the thing entirely. Here is the Google Drive with the Manga, courteously given by Puyo Preservation.
Schezo then tries to chase her, scaring her, and he grabs her arm, which leads to this page.
Tumblr media
Honey Bee is pissed at the fact that they're holding hands and all that, meanwhile Schezo and Serilly are about as shocked. Serilly begins to actually sob, asking them to not bully her, while Schezo asks to give him the orb, and if she does, she won't get hurt. However, he's swinging his sword, which causes Serilly to get more nervous, leading to Schezo giving Bee his sword to not scare her off.
Surprisingly...it works. Serilly isn't as afraid as she was before, and Schezo asks if she know where the orb is, to which Serilly stutters a bit. For no reason, Honey Bee tries to threaten her, leading to Schezo hitting Bee away.
Serilly says they can't have the orb because her "friend," Satan, told her to guard it. Schezo gets mad at that, saying that a friend should be there for you, not be barking orders, and Bee herself adds onto that, saying that if he was her friend, why did he lock her in a room?
Unfortunately, Serilly says that she doesn't mind being locked here forever, as if she leaves, Satan will hate her, and she'll lose her only friend. She explains that she's never had a friend and was bullied all her life, so she doesn't want to risk it.
Tumblr media
Finally, Schezo has enough and says that she Satan isn't her friend, and that he manipulated her, leading to a similar case of what happening during the game...Schezo giving therapy.
Honey Bee insults Serilly AGAIN for her actions, and Serilly sobs while saying she's sorry for everything, leaving Schezo speechless after smaking Bee away. (Unfortunately, 10 image limit. Won't be seen.)
However, the 3rd picture below is when Schezo tells her to stop crying and that he'll...be her friend, if only she gives up her unhappiness, which she agrees to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The events are similar to the Game, even the part where Schezo thinks that he feels like he's preaching, and doesn't care if she's happy or not.
As Honey Bee basically insults her more, Suketoudara appears absolutely livid at what Schezo is doing to Serilly, and...basically tries to drown him. However, Serilly doesn't want to lose her new friend, so she rescues him, leaving Bee and Suketoudara shocked, even though Schezo had to save her too.
Leading to this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This beautiful artwork.
Schezo knocks out Suke for a bit, and he and Serilly look at each other, before looking away, blushing, leading Bee to get upset with both of them, saying they probably flirted in the water.
Even though Bee is pissed at how Schezo is carrying Serilly, they're both ok, but Schezo sustained a injury to his forehead, which leads to Bee comically trying to wrap band-aids around him.
Suke wakes up, saying that was the first time he ever saw Serilly help someone like that, which even she's shocked by. Bee though, says that it's natural to help someone you care for. Serilly goes up to Schezo, and gives him the key to the orbs. After that, Schezo tells Suke to bring Serilly away from the place, which angers him, but agrees to, before Schezo and Bee walk away.
However, Serilly yells at them to stop, before asking Schezo if he'll meet with her again.
Shown below is Schezo saying yes, if he ever feels like it, much to Bee's chargin, before they set for the door...which has Incubus in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While it's just a section, it's a really, REALLY good section, and I feel like a writer/developer really wanted Schezo/Serilly to be real so they went all out here. And props to them, they did it well, and made some cool scenes.
With that...I believe this it the end. See you all next week.
Hope you enjoyed the show.
Finished the Peacock & Gamble FUBAR Radio things last week, decided I’ll probably get into other Ian Boldsworth things later, but for now that’s enough of it. Then immediately went back on that as I found the shows he did with Angela Barnes, and have spent the last week listening to those. Which add up, at 8 shows with three hours per episode. Suddenly threw an extra 24 hours on the end of my binge listen, more than I’d really planned. Plus I found an episode with Peacock and Charlie Baker from the middle of the Peacock & Gamble run, when Ed was in the hospital or filming in America or some shit like that.
I think I have now covered the entire run of Ray Peacock on FUBAR Radio from the Peacock & Gamble era, aside from that one episode with Danielle Ward, which may be lost to history, which is unfortunate as it’s up there with what I’d most want to hear. But I got the rest, and got air dates for them, so the completist in me is happy about that. My Peacock & Gamble folder is now up to 225 hours of content, and I’m pleased that I’ve finished listening to everything in it today, just before I go off on my trip. Because I joke about the completist in me, but what I actually mean is “the OCD in me that always has it in the back of my mind, if I’m in the middle of watching/reading/listening to something that I’ve not completed all the way through yet, that will bother me constantly until I finish it”. And I don’t want that bothering me while I’m traveling for the next two weeks.
But that’s all right, I’m caught up on everything. Finished Pierre Novellie’s book, which I enjoyed very much, much more in-depth research than I was expected and I learned some stuff even though I already know quite a bit about autism, I recommend it a lot to anyone who’s interested in learning more, delivered in a funny and interesting way. Taskmaster Australia just finished (though the new NZ one starts soon, I’ll have to catch up on that when I get home). Even The Bugle has just begun its summer hiatus, as if to kindly refrain from adding “stuff to catch up on” into my podcast feed right before I go on a trip. Last Week Tonight came back last weekend with a very strong episode, so I’ll catch up on those when I get home too. And I have my actual news podcasts that I’ve categorically decided I’m putting on hold for two weeks. The world can do what it likes.
And I finished the 8 episodes of Barnes & Peacock, which I’d meant to just dabble in but ended up not being able to stop until I’d run out of them. Three episodes of the regular comedy radio show but with Angela Barnes instead of Ed Gamble, and five episodes of their separate “Do Sex” show, which was meant to be still a funny comedy show but also informative and for serious discussions about many things related to sex, and that was weird, because the main thing I learned from this sort-of educational show is that I’m not mature enough to handle serious in-depth discussions about sex. Actually that’s not true – the main thing I learned from the Barnes & Peacock Do Sex show is that apparently, most of the ideas in The Ray Peacock Podcast were taken directly from Ian Boldsworth’s actual sex life. So that’s good. Glad they found a way to make that podcast even weirder.
Anyway, the Barnes and Peacock stuff was a lot of fun. Put some of the stuff that went on in Peacock & Gamble from the same time in a bit of context, seeing how a different person reacted to the same version of Ray Peacock. I’d say Angela Barnes did at least as well with it as Ed Gamble, which is impressive as she didn’t have the 7 years of history in figuring out how to fit her performance into whatever the hell Ray Peacock was doing.
She really is good, I’d forgotten how much I like her. She used to be one of my favourites on The News Quiz, during the times when the years when I listened to that show every weekend (2009 to 2023, I stopped following it so much when I started listening to The Bugle, which covers a lot of the same ground but without some of the less good guests that the BBC brings in for balance). And she was excellent on Mock the Week, they gave her all those spots for a reason. I know “good on Mock the Week” is not the highest of praise in all circles, something that’s at the front of my mind as I’ve been listening to so much Ian Boldsworth lately. And if Ian Boldsworth wants to call Ed Gamble or anyone else a sellout for Mock the Week (for the record, I have never heard him call Angela Barnes a sellout), he has retained the moral high ground from which to do that, voluntarily or otherwise. But I’ve watched every single episode of Mock the Week (like I said, compulsive completism), and I found Ed Gamble and Angela Barnes both very funny on a lot of them. So I couldn’t call anyone a sellout for that even if I wanted to, which I don’t. I’m aware that it is not always the highest quality of television. I’m aware that it’s a pantomime where people pretend to say things spontaneously that they’ve actually planned out beforehand (but I’ve also been reminded this week of the popularity of professional wrestling, and as long as people are watching that shit, I don’t see why panel shows get singled out as a terrible thing because it turns out this TV show has been written by writers!). It’s still a vehicle where some people were very funny sometimes, particularly Angela Barnes.
Angela Barnes did also have a fantastic special on NextUp last year, Hot Mess, one of my favourite 2023 shows that I’ve had the chance to see. And I won’t get to see her 2024 show in person since she gets to Edinburgh right after I leave, but I’m hoping she’ll film it again somewhere. She also had a great Radio 4 series some years ago, taking back the dead dad show. She’s great. I already knew she was great, I’ve known that for longer than I’ve known about most of these comedians (because I got into a lot of this stuff in 2020, but The News Quiz much earlier), but I’d not thought of her in a while and was pleased to be reminded.
She did a really good job of holding her own with whatever Ray threw at her, moving seamlessly between high and low status, between trying to keep a handle on things and falling apart herself. And Ray was very good at switching places just as quickly, from being the child she has to control to yelling at her for falling apart. A bit like the old Peacock & Gamble ability to seamlessly trade off the straight man role – a dynamic they’d sort of lost by 2024, so it was fun to hear that again.
My Peacock & Gamble folder has sort of blown up into a “all the things Ray Peacock did between 2007 and 2014, which were the Peacock & Gamble years so all of that, but it includes non-Gamble stuff too” folder. Though even that’s not all-inclusive, because it includes a couple of pre-2007 Ray Peacock stand-up clips that I dug up, and a “retrospectives” folder of them both discussing those years post-2014, which, in the interests of honesty, I have subtitled the “celebrity gossip” folder. And I know that after I get back from my trip that’s likely to get broader. I might end up getting into all his post-Peacock & Gamble FUBAR radio stuff. Also I’ve not scratched the surface of his Patreon content. But I still refuse to listen to anyone talk about ghosts.
So that’s what’s going on in my life, in terms of my comedy content journey. I fly to fucking London tomorrow. That doesn’t feel real. I’ve packed some thing. Checked into my flight online. Loaded my phone with a folder of old audio comedy, shows that fit most squarely into my special interests/part of comedy I know the most about, all recordings I've heard before, most of them recordings I've heard multiple times before. Comfort shows. The five albums that David O'Doherty's released, Nish Kumar's 2016 and 2019 stand-up albums, and a selection of Kitson stand-up and radio stuff, mainly from the 00s. Stuff to listen to while traveling that won't activate the "You have to finish listening to this now" part of my brain, because I've heard it plenty before. Stuff that's a fun reminder of why I got so deeply obsessed with the history of 21st-Century Edinburgh Fringe Festival comedy, now that I'm going to go fucking see it.
Oh, have I mentioned that I've added to my schedule? I'm now seeing a Romesh Ranganathan WIP on Sunday evening, the day I arrive (I fly overnight tomorrow). Meaning I've booked comedy for every night that I'm in London - Romesh WIP, Kitson's Collaborator, Brynley Stent's polished 2023 show at the Soho Theatre, Nish Kumar WIP at the Bill Murray because it's not like I'll see Nish Kumar enough other times (I don't actually listen to Pod Save the UK, I have booked into both recordings of it because it's a chance to pay to be in a room with Nish Kumar, in addition to seeing his own show in Edinburgh, in 2022 I drove 8.5 hours to New York City just for a Nish Kumar show and then 2 months later drove 2 hours to Montreal just to see him do the same show I'd already seen, it was totally worth it, you may ask why I don't listen to Pod Save the UK if I want that much Nish Kumar in my life, the answer is I am at max capacity on topical shows and the world is too terrible to add any more), Desiree Burch WIP at ABC. That is a fucking strong lineup. I got very lucky with who's playing while I'm in London. I'm really excited to see Romesh, I've heard some of his recent stuff and it's incredibly funny, to be honest better than I was expecting (not that I'd expected it to be bad, I just hadn't heard his stand-up before and knew he's mostly a TV presenter these days, but it turns out he is very very good at stand-up). I also like the narrative parallel, as Romesh throwing a watermelon on the floor in s01e01 of Taskmaster was the moment, when I first saw it 4.5-ish years ago, that really really hooked me on this stuff. Honestly I was just watching that first Taskmaster episode out of curiosity and I hadn't really "got" it up until that moment, not sure how much longer I would have given it if Romesh Ranganathan hadn't made me absolutely die laughing by going feral on a watermelon. How different my life might be now, if Romesh Ranganathan had not done the funniest thing that's ever been committed to television, which made me 100% sure that I need to watch every episode of that show and also every other thing every person remotely involved in it has ever done. I like that he'll be the first comedian I see when I travel to the UK.
And obviously I've changed around my Edinburgh schedule, since I last posted it and said that was the final one. Added Lou Wall on Monday night, because I'd dropped Greg Larsen (only because I learned I'd get a chance post-Edinburgh to hear his 2024 show, no one should drop Greg Larsen otherwise) and I had to do something to keep up the way I'm using my Edinburgh schedule to prove that there are no straight Australian comedians (Lou Wall, Laura Davis, Tom Ballard, Zoe Coombs Marr, Dan Rath - my schedule is surprisingly heavy on Australians). I moved several things around to be able to see Jin Hao Li, because I got to hear a bit of his stuff this week, immediately fell in love with him and decided I was willing to sacrifice other things (specifically, I sacrificed Susie McCabe for this, hopefully she'll film her show like she did last year so I can still see it), if I can pay to hear him say stuff in a room.
I dropped Kiri Pritchard-McLean, which I found difficult because I've read about her show this year and it looks very interesting, about the foster and social care system (in addition to the fact that I've seen three previous Kiri Pritchard-McLean stand-up hours and they've all been excellent). I know there are confidentiality issues with that show, but presumably she's solved them now since I've read interviews in which she talked about it openly, so hopefully she'll still end up filming it in some form, at some point. I really wanted to see it. But the only time I could see it was a time when it would run into Sophie Duker's show, I'd had it set up so I could try to see both, but realized I won't enjoy either if I'm worried about having no time in between. And I really, really want to see Sophie Duker. So I replaced Kiri with Kanan Gill, a comedian from India who got four stars off Chortle for this show at MICF this year, which doesn't necessarily mean anything (Acaster's Heckler's Welcome got four stars off Chortle last year, which is a 5-star show if I have ever seen one, but Jazz Emu's You Shouldn't Have also got four stars off Chortle, which was... I mean I don't want to be too much of a dick about this and I guess some people like that stuff but my God did I ever find that show annoying), but the actual content of the review made me think that show sounded very interesting. So I'll see how that goes. And he can't run into Sophie Duker's show because he's in the same room as her, right before (not just the same venue, the same room, I checked). And then I realized I could slot Stevie Martin right into another gap, and I like the little bits I've seen her do on other things, and I heard her show is one of those interesting ones of the sort that I should see at a fringe festival, so I'll try it.
I think my Fringe schedule, as it stands now, is more focused on taking chances on smaller names/comedians I don't know quite as much about, as it was in the original version. Which is good, for a fringe festival. Particularly in terms of seeing comedians who do offbeat things that don't really work if you're not live in the room with them (Mat Ewins) - it's good to take the opportunity to see that when I'm over there, and I can hear the more straightforward comedy from home. Hopefully that works out. Hopefully I didn't overbook.
Tumblr media
Looking at this is odd, right after finishing Pierre Novellie's book, which contained a chapter on autism burnout that I related to very hard. You know, that thing where you try to do too many things at once, particularly things with a lot of people around and a lot of sensory input, with not enough downtime in between, and then you crash physically and psychologically as a result. I listened to that chapter that described something that's happened to me a lot in my life, and I listened to it while booking this schedule.
I do, cautiously optimistically, think it might be all right. It helps that even though I'll be around a lot of people, I won't be expected to do much actual interacting with people. I'll be in control of what I do, I don't have to follow a group's plan. And, obviously, it helps that it's something I really really really want to do. Autism burnout countered by special interests? I mean, that isn't actually how it works, really, but I like to think it could be.
I do feel like one of those kids in a newspaper article about autism. Like the stereotype that all autistic people are 8-year-old white boys who are obsessed with trains, and then you read an article in a tiny local paper about an 8-year-old white boy who's autistically obsessed with trains, and he got to meet a train conductor and go to a train museum and lost his mind with excitement, and it's sweet and heartwarming in addition to having vaguely weird inspirational stereotype energy. I feel like I've read a lot of articles like that, and I am excited to be a protagonist in one. In terms of autism stereotypes, with this vacation I have booked, I am 8-year-old white boy, and these are my trains.
A Formal Review of Epithet Erased - Prison of Plastic
I've been a fan of Epithet Erased since before it was Epithet Erased. Anime Campaign was a huge factor into me becoming the person I am today, so this book is a big deal to me. I am overjoyed to announce that Prison of Plastic delivers on all fronts! Blaber's particular style of writing lends itself excellently to this new catalyst for this story. Prison of Plastic, especially in it's audio form, brings new life to the characters I fell in love with all those years ago when I first watched Anime Campaign. I am especially pleased with this new version of Rick Shades, who manages to be just as extra as Rick was in his first Anime Campaign appearance, while also containing hints of the softness and emotional maturity seen in the man he would become by the end of the tabletop game. Ray Chase absolutely KILLS it as Rick in the audio version, he is exactly what I had hoped Rick would be in this rebooted universe. While Rick is all well and good, Tiana Camacho's performance as Lorelei really steals the show! Camacho brilliantly captures the essence of Lorelei right from the prologue, if you still aren't sold on the audio version, let me be the one to tell you, she is the reason to get the audiobook, her dynamic with Dani Chambers as Molly is phenomenal. While on the topic of Lorelei, I would like to mention how fantastic of a job Blaber did translating her Anime Campaign counterpart into this new universe. Milly Blyndeff, Lorelei's previous incarnation, was the worst. She was the worst and she had pretty much zero redeeming qualities, there's a reason chat popped off when Molly punched her in the throat back in Anime Campaign, and Lorelei could've just been Milly again, but she isn't. Blaber took this character that was universally hated and managed to reshape her into a sympathetic human being with real emotions that you see and you can't help but feel for. Lorelei isn't just some bratty older sister here, she has some real depth, and I love that for her. Siv Ryan and Bryn April as Trixie Roughhouse and Pheonica Fleecity respectively are also excellent adds to the growing cast of Epithet Erased, and Kyle Igneczi returning as Giovanni Potage is just as much of a treat as he was in the webseries. Now let's talk about Naven. Author Brendan Blaber decided to cast himself in the role of Naven Nuknuk, as an Anime Campaign viewer I know that this is because Naven is his favorite character he's ever made, but am I about to condemn him for it? Absolutely not, I don't think there is anyone but Brendan Blaber who is physically capable of doing Naven Nuknuk justice, genius casting, 10/10 he nails it. Not only does he do Naven his due diligence, Blaber also remarkably manages to shine as the narrator. Brendan "Jello 'only ever uses two fonts' Apocalypse" Blaber is a man who I have routinely read the work of in his own voice, his writing voice is very strong, but I don't think I would've fully grasped exactly how he would read a lot of these lines. The narrator in this book manages to be a character in their own right in just the best way possible. The rest of the voice work is also excellent, just marginally less notable, let it be known that there is not a single performance in this audiobook that I disliked. Epithet Erased, the webseries, was notable for having a lot of very real emotional moments despite its status as primarily a comedy, this theme continues into Prison of Plastic, only dialed up to eleven. The emotional scenes in this book really hit hard, and much like how knowing the source material would make Molly's pyrophobia that much more heart-wrenching, several scenes in this book will no-doubt be looked back on with an additional touch of sadness as more of the story comes to light. The soundtrack by Plasterbrain is every bit as good as it was back in the webseries, maybe even moreso, the new tracks blend right in with the old, they're familiar, but with their own new flair and flavor. If you are a fan of Epithet Erased, or even just a fan of good books, Prison of Plastic is absolutely worth checking out.
Hi, how are you? This is kind of a random question but I was looking for a sweet romcom to watch and I was like, hey, maybe I ask you what YOUR favourite romantic comedy is?
What an AWESOME question, Nonny! Thank you so much for asking. And as it's my usual style to be shamelessly extra, I'm gonna list my top five and hope that my enthusiasm will be effective enough to sway anyone reading this to give some of them a viewing.
Tumblr media
Moonstruck - Romance & immediate attraction that strike like a thunderbolt out of the blue, set in an Italian-American community in NYC. Flavored by the backdrop of the opera La Traviata and a full December moon, this tale of finding a second great love moves like a whirlwind.
Tumblr media
And each time I watch it, I'm transported back to my grandparents' home by the same sights, textures, and indelibly Italian traditions I experienced in my childhood.
10 Things I Hate About You - A brilliant, witty retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, set in a high school in the grunge era '90's. Young Heath Ledger, whose charisma is off the charts. An excellent soundtrack of contemporary music--with the addition of Cruel To Be Kind, which incorporates a key line from the play itself.
Tumblr media
Roxanne - A modernized version of Cyrano de Bergerac, with Steve Martin (who also wrote the screenplay) as the dashing but bulbously-nosed Fire Chief of a small Colorado resort town, who falls hard for Daryl Hannah's visiting astronomer. It's a glory of words, words, words, with poetry that inspires passion. Proof that love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.
Tumblr media
And speaking of Daryl Hannah, I must give an honorable mention to the delightful Splash, a rom-com retelling of The Little Mermaid.
Bridget Jones's Diary - A modern woman's quest to find love despite a lifetime of disappointments. Bridget is 1,000% relatable (at least to this Hopeless Romantic😁). Patterned after Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, it has one of the greatest they-finally-kiss scenes of all time, with a closing line by Bridget's Darcy that is so frickin' sexy, you just have to melt (while wishing your partner would say that same to you).
Tumblr media
Honorable mention to the sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Mamma Mia!/Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again! - How can I not make this a two-fer, with all the amazing opportunities to sing out loud, so so many ABBA hits? Plus, Colin Firth in a white dress shirt. And then a wet Colin Firth😁. But seriously, these films & their soundtracks have provided me inspiration for chapters of multiple fics. Most recently (relatively speaking) Andante, Andante--which proved pivitol for setting the mood for the lovemaking in Chapter 17 of Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight.
Tumblr media
I actually cried when I saw it sung in the movie the first time (oh heck, every time now) because it so captured the feelings I wanted to evoke that first time that my OFC, Teyla, and Stephen made love.
Thank you again, dear Nonny, for this chance to share some of my favorite romantic flicks! In fact, I have about fifeteen others I could easily add to the list, but perhaps I can elaborate upon them another day.
Two more meta-fiction reccs because I too really really love them:
Redshirts by John Scalzi. Multiple new crewmates of a spaceship, after investigating a string of mysterious casualties, realize that they're extras on a bad Star Trek knock-off.
Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris D'Lacey: A children's series, but anything that's wrong with me can be blamed directly on this children's series. It begins when the protagonist, David Rain, moves into his new landlady's house so he can go to college. Said landlady, Elizabeth Pennykettle, makes clay dragons, each of which have a special talent. David receives a dragon which inspires him to write, so he decides to write a cute story about squirrels for his landlady's daughter. Then it starts to become apparent that his story is either manipulating or predicting the future. And also the dragons may or may not be alive. Among other things.
It gets crazier from there. The first book could easily be realistic fiction with some very ambiguous supernatural elements, but by the last book, time travel and alternate universes are both in play.
(Books, in order, were The Fire Within, Icefire, Fire Star, The Fire Eternal, Dark Fire, Fire World, and The Fire Ascending, if I recall correctly.)
i've actually read the Redshirts! absolutely loved it, will 100% recommend it to anyone interested in either Star Trek, metafiction, or crack treated seriously, its fantastic! i've read it multiple times over at this point and it still means so much to me <3
i will add the Last Dragon Chronicles to my list!! that seems REALLY great i love messing with the narrative and time travel and alternate universes, that is all SO right up my alley oh my god
ALSO I DO HAVE SOME METAFICTION RECS OF MY OWN :D
Aria's Story is an RPGMaker game about a girl (named Aria) who falls asleep in a library, and wakes up having been locked in! In her journey to find a way out, she gets swept up into a really intriguing world of books, genres, and some mysterious characters! It's really fun, has 5 endings, and is relatively short!
MY SECOND REC is, predictably, Cell of Empireo. I realize the eng translation is several videos long but I PROMISE IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD. it has consumed my brain my cells have been so empireo'd the TLDR IS: 28 year old Haruki Atou is working in a detective agency, and his coworker, Eiji Shinano, has gone missing. His phone's last known location was within the grounds of the Empyrean Heaven Research Institute, a cult/religious organization which draws elements and inspiration from Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy (which is also metafiction). Atou's goal is to go find and rescue Shinano, and figure out what exactly is going on in this institute... I REALIZE THIS DOES NOT SEEM LIKE METAFICTION AT FIRST BUT I SWEAR IT IS. I CANNOT SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WOULD BE SO MANY SPOILERS BUT I PROMISE,, I PROMISE ITS COOL AS HELL,, [redacted] is so meta and they drive me insane. there are hidden timers that determine whether characters live or die and I THINK they're there to make getting the best ending first try more difficult, and to encourage you to try again (thus giving you the player more knowledge and there being an additional meta aspect to this). I'm pretty sure that There is a canonical reason for having save files (i have a theory AND evidence that supports this). There is a headless rat.
>has written an entire metafiction coe theory rant post i am a sane and normal rpgmaker game enjoyer
Hihihi quite honestly, I can't fault you for forgetting about Song Lan when almost all of my Yi City content banks on the idea that he will never pop up and they can keep living happily, yes, hmm hmm XD Out of sight and out of mind, you know.
There are so many reasons Song Lan could be missing anyways, from him having hardwired instructions to patrol at certain hours unless ordered to stay, to Xue Yang keeping him under a blanket when he is inactive because why not add insult to injury, to him suddenly being free due to Xue Yang's mind reset and having stepped out of the house to get a shovel and bury him...
Anyways, forgotten Song Lan or not, I remember Nepenthe as an incredibly gripping and unfairly saddening fic, banking on my fear of memory loss to boot, so forgetting the fierce corpse is the least of my concerns when Xue Yang just walks away and Xingchen wakes up omfg you MADE IT and you WON'T EVEN KNOWWWW TT-TT
As for One Satisfied Customer, I have no regrets whatsoever that the whole debacle ended up with the madam almost booting them and the price remains unspoken of until the end -which it was solved too anyways, hahaha! No complaints there.
I suppose the madam measured Xiao Xingchen's wealth by sight alone, and while he might be dressed humbly, I should bet Shuanghua alone could be worth a couple omegas at least... And considering Xiao Xingchen got the feral one, I'm inclined to believe Xue Yang comes with a hefty discount XD
That fic was so entertaining, very well crafted in terms of worldbuilding, setting the stage very clearly from a slice of Xiao Xingchen's life -that turns out to be life-changing for him!! I always love how good chemistry they have, particularly in your fics, no matter if canon, canon-adjacent or completely bonkers au, xuexiao always manage to find each other and click so well!
(YES!! EVEN IN PRICELESS!!! XD)
Your penguins look healthy and lovely. Picture me like a happy ornithologist. ^-^
As for my nagging thoughts... I'm in the bad habit of correcting and expanding (minimally) my fics days, weeks and even months after posting them. Whatever regrets I might have, I try to correct them with minimal changes and hope no one noticed my blunder.
A good example of that was A Comedy of Yi City Errors, where there was quite an incoherence with the timing because according to one chapter Song Lan arrives the same day as the other three, but in the next Xiao Xingchen&Co have already spent one night there...
But that was easy enough to fix, hehehe. And that fic in particular was already a clusterfuck of well-timed coincidences, so I doubt anyone paid attention to that XD
No, the things that bother me in a fic are the tonal inconsistences, which tend to happen to me if I write long fics (which I don't generally like) because depending on the day the characters will be more spiked up than others...
That is something I cannot fix afterwards with a couple extra lines, it's part of the fic structure, so those I don't usually re-read with the hopes of forgetting enough about them to look at them with really fresh eyes without being bombarded by all the weird shit going on there >-<
Fortunately, I don't think I have any xuexiao fics with this problem because I treat those with the utmost love and reverence ^-^ but I was very, very upset with the way Secrets Light as a Feather (a jadecest fic) shaped up, to the point I considered abandoning it despite being part of an event... U_U
Thank you for taking part in this little ask game with me!! Sorry about the late answer, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more penguins of yours and introducing you to a few of my own >w<
😂😂😂
Another long one. Please skip if uninterested! Never expect anyone to read. 😊😊😊 edited to add, I hope no one feels like I'm referring to the whole fandom. I'm not, it should be clear but just in case it isn't. 😊 when I use "you or they" I'm referring to a specific type of haters.
"yet our assumptions keep being proven right."
Now that's comedy. 😂😂😂
Literally not one single assumption has been proven correct about his GF Johanne M. Mostly I've seen delusional ridiculous dehumanizing hate For both of them, and jokes. But nothing about body language or their relationship has been proven, other than they say they love each other and live together. Lol that's literally the only actual facts we know. Oh and he's planning to propose too. 😂😊😊😊 they go on dates. facts just exist, interpretations or wishing misery aren't facts.
And also things he's mentioned years ago in interviews aren't assumptions (including things he's mentioned again recently, adhd a few times on podcasts years ago). Everything else regarding personalities, symptoms, and motivations are still unproven assumptions.
I'll explain further an earlier post And I'll put it more plainly. It's wrong imo, to diagnose people with disorders, extra disorders or symptoms, they may or may not have. Just bc your experience with a disorder includes xyz characteristics FOR YOU does not make it true for everyone on a vastly wide spectrum. It's not only wrong to do so but armchair psychology is just ridiculous. He is not a carbon copy of your projections or experiences. Your experiences with disorders or people with disorders, doesn't dictate anyone else's experience. Just bc you don't like her or hate her, doesn't mean she has *insert disorder you use to insult her here.* the same goes for him. Also disorders are real, they are not insults. People that have disorders are not "bad" people just bc they have a disorder.
Sidenote please reference my post on Body language (you said you were reading😜, always surprised lol), real professors with PhDs say it's not real. Bc no one humans behavior or intent can be deciphered by body language. Too many variables with personality, possible disorders, and the simple fact all people are different. Even with similarities, not everything is typical or presents the same. What I'm saying is you can't read an article or watch crime videos and then suddenly claim you know what you're talking about when humans are very complex and body language isn't a real thing. Edited to add, you can interpret people you know in real life, bc you know them, their history, how they react, but not strangers. And they are both strangers to us all. You can read people you come into physical contact with, or whether or not a dark alley feels right or not, but a stranger through the screen on instagram? That's just ridiculous, delusional and irrational.
Now I've always said I hope in real life you're not as you are online. I don't know you so I can't judge you, I don't know what made you act this way online. I won't make assumptions about your life or call you evil. It's not my thing to judge or demonize. I haven't ever dehumanized anyone and don't intend to. I've also generally tried to refrain from labeling people as crazy, bc I don't think it's right and denigrates real illnesses to brush it off with such a callow dismissive word. But pointing out that these delusions arise at least partly, from jealousy is just common sense. It ALL stems from AHA, no other source for the hate towards her can be found. All objections are based on what you think he would/should want. Just like former hate for Fanny, the origin of it was him. The same ridiculous hate. If you're not a jealous person then this strangers choice wouldn't bother you at all. You'd say meh, and move on bc he doesn't affect your daily life. But seeing that you (six people or less my guess) find nothing wrong in disturbing, delusional, and jealous content/behaviour over a celeb and his celeb GF, then I guess it's just who you are. Sorry. I feel mean saying it, but if this is how you act towards a stranger bc you're anonymous and can get away with it....you come across as no better than a middle school bully. So you might be one but I hope not.
I will always maintain that the people that know him and her in real life are the best judges for their characters, bc they actually know them. It's highly unlikely that everyone's (friends/fam/AHA) people reader Radar is off, that's a whole lot of people to discount bc it doesn't fit the narrative you want it to fit. It's ridiculous. Just like continuously going after his mother bc she likes her too.
Putting this here bc I felt like responding! 😊😊😊 sorry to anyone that reads for the length.
