Girl Talk (. tmnt 2012 .)
SUMMARY: Ashley and April are having a sleepover together at April’s house, and the orange-haired girl asks her good friend for advice.
NOTES: once again, I fucking love writing friendships and platonic relationships. This mentions my friend's, @thepsyichckistune, oc, Alex. I would say this is RIGHT before April, Donnie, and Alex are an official couple. Enjoy!
WARNINGS: April gushing over Alex and Donnie because they are so cute together omg
{~~~}
“DO I NEED TO GET ANYTHING, APRIL?”
The brunette asked over the phone. She set her phone on the counter in her kitchen, tying her long brown hair into a high ponytail. Ash grabbed her purple platform combat boots from the shoe rack and pulled out a stool that was by the counter. Ash sat down on the stool and started putting on their boots. Her overnight bags and other necessities were placed on the kitchen counter, as well as her small backpack. Ashley had been dying to get out of her apartment for what seemed like the longest time. Finally, she had an excuse. The brunette had a chance to leave her home for the night, and she was sure as hell going to take that chance with open arms. April had called her up, asking Ash if she was free for a sleepover. With her father away on a business trip for his journalist job and Alex working at her job, Ash thought that it was the perfect opportunity for her to get out of the house.
“Umm… hold on, let me check and see what we have.” The orangette said. Ashley heard her friend hum to herself, opening the cabinets and the fridge. “Let’s see… we have ice cream and chips. We also have water, sweet tea, various kinds of juice, aaaand Pepsi.” The brunette could hear April shut the door to the fridge.
Ash finished zipping up her combat boots. “Okay. Do we need anything for dinner?” They asked as they grabbed their bags from the kitchen counter.
“We have enough food to make an actual dinner. I think the only thing that we need is popcorn.” April informed her friend.
“Yeah, we’re gonna need popcorn for our movie night,” Ash said, shutting off the light to the kitchen. They then proceeded to grab their car keys from the coat rack that was by the front door. Ash unlocked the front door, opening the door to her apartment. Ashley took her phone off of the speaker and put it to her pierced ear. “I’ll head to the store and get some popcorn for us. I might get other stuff, but I don’t know yet. Text me if you need me to pick you up anything.”
“You got it, Ash! Be careful.” April said to her friend.
Ashley closed the front door to her apartment. She locked the door behind her. “Alright, see you soon, April,” Ash said, hanging up the phone call with her friend. Shit, I have to let dad and Al know that I’m leaving the apartment. Ash thought to themselves. The brunette remembered to text Alex and their father that they were heading out. The last time Ash forgot to notify her dad that she was going somewhere, he blew up at her and got very worried. Yeah, I definitely don’t want a repeat of that shitshow. After letting her father and sister know of what she was doing, Ash put her phone in her sweatshirt pocket. She then made her way to her car, threw her stuff in the passenger’s seat, and started her journey to her destination.
After picking up the popcorn from the store, Ash finally arrived at April’s house. They got out of their car, went around to the other side, and grabbed the groceries and their overnight bags from the passenger side of their car. They closed the passenger door to their car, and they approached their friend’s front door. Ash knocked on the door, stepping back as April opened the door.
“Ash! I’m glad to see that you’ve made it here safe.” April greeted with a smile, inviting her friend inside her apartment.
“Thanks, April. Oh, also, I got more than just popcorn.” Ash stated as the finger closed the front door behind them, locking it and the deadbolt. Ash presented the groceries to their friend.
April peaked inside of the two grocery bags. “You got Oreos and ramen packets?” April inquired interestingly, lifting a brow.
“Yup! Specifically, I got peanut butter Oreos and Java chip Oreos, along with beef flavored ramen.” Ash clarified, taking the grocery bags into the kitchen. This earned Ash an amused smile on April’s face.
April followed her friend into her kitchen. She started to put away the groceries, taking them out of the bags. “You can put your stuff up in my room. I got this.” April said to her friend.
Ash nodded. “Okay, thanks, April.” With that, the brunette walked out of the kitchen and went upstairs. She put her stuff away in April’s room before walking back out and going down to the kitchen. Entering the kitchen, she saw her orange-haired friend putting the last of the groceries away. The brunette pulled out a stool and took a seat on the island. They whipped out their t-phone and began scrolling on Tumblr.
“Are you hungry right now, or do you want to wait until later?” April asked her friend, turning to face the brunette’s direction. April leaned up against the counter.
Ashley went to speak, but her stomach had spoken for her. Their stomach growled loudly, and Ash hummed in response. “I think that answers your question,” Ash said with a small chuckle.
“Have you ever eaten anything today?” April questioned, lifting a brow.
Ash hummed in thought. She looked up from her t-phone for a brief moment. “Now that I think about it, I think the only thing that I’ve eaten today was that chocolate-covered granola bar that Alex gave me,” Ash recalled in thought.
“When was that?”
“Oh, this morning at, like, eight,” Ash confessed honestly, seemingly unaffected at the fact that she hadn’t eaten right today.
April crossed her arms across her chest. The ginger teenager sighed tiredly. “You really need to eat more. Why didn’t you eat anything?” April asked genuinely.
Ash blinked. “I’ve had a busy day, that's all.” The brunette responded nonchalantly.
“Still, you should have eaten more. You really couldn’t find any time during the day to eat, like, a piece of pizza or something?” April interrogated her brunette friend, who still seemed indifferent to her eating habits.
“Girl, I have pizza practically every time I hang out with the guys at the lair. I’ve pretty much reached my quota on that.” Ash remarked to her orange-haired friend. She continued to scroll on Tumblr until she located the certain smut fanfiction that she wanted to read.
“Right, whatever, that’s not the point. You couldn’t have taken even ten minutes to get a snack?” The ginger teenager continued to press on the matter. However, Ash wasn’t budging, and April knew that. Her brunette friend was quite stubborn.
“April, you’re starting to sound like Alex,” Ash commented with a smirk, “not that it's a bad thing because it’s not. It’s just that if sis heard that I didn’t eat like I usually do today, then she would have talked to me like you are now.” Ash waited for a sassy and lighthearted response from April, but it never came. This caused the brunette to look up from her t-phone and at April.
“I’ll start making dinner. What do you want? Ramen?” She asked. April turned away before her friend could see the blush on her face.
“That’s fine, but don’t switch up the conversation on me. What’s up?” Ash questioned. The brunette woman could tell that there was more to the story. April, while not trying to give any implications away, decided not to face Ash and busy herself with beginning dinner.
“Nothing’s wrong, Ash,”
“Bullshit,”
April shot Ash a fierce look, which caused the brunette teenager to lift her brow. “Really! There’s nothing wrong!” April protested with a tinge of nervousness in her voice. She tried to act casual, and for the most part, she was succeeding, but Ash could see right through that act. April took out a pot and ran it under the kitchen faucet.
“You sure? You didn’t start acting weird until I mentioned Alex,” Ash observed nonchalantly. They set down their phone for a moment, becoming more engaged in the conversation.
April briefly turned around to get some ingredients from the refrigerator. That’s when Ash saw the orange-haired teen’s face. Her cheeks were as red as the red bell peppers she was retrieving from the fridge, and she seemed like she was pondering something. “Hey, Ash?” April spoke up.
“Yeah, April?”
“I have a question for you,” April started. There was an anxious tone to her voice as she closed the refrigerator door behind her.
“Lay it on me,” Ash responded calmly.
April shut off the kitchen faucet, taking the pot from the sink and placing it carefully on the stove. “Um… I don’t— I don’t really know what else to ask you, but…” She trailed off before continuing with her speech, “do you have any advice on how to approach Alex and Donnie?”
“In regards to…?”
“A relationship,” April stated, turning the dial on the stove.
Ash nodded in realization. “Ahhh, okay, okay, I see you,” The brunette took a moment to think before she responded. “Hmm… I mean, I can’t speak specifically on how Alex and Donnie feel because I simply just don’t know. I would say just pull them aside whenever you feel comfortable and be honest with them about how you feel about them and being in a relationship with them.” Ash spoke matter-of-factly, watching her best friend continue to make themselves dinner.
April sighed. “Yeah, I understand that. However… who would I choose? Alex or Donnie?” April grumbled in frustration. “Why do feelings have to be so damn complicated?” She asked, mainly to herself, in a quieter manner.
Ash paused for a brief moment. “I… I can’t answer that, April. You know, as to who you could choose I mean. That’s something that only you can decide.” Ash voiced to her comrade. “However, there is such a thing as polyamorous relationships.”
April briefly turned to her brunette friend with a quizzical expression on her face. She lifted a brow as she began stirring the ramen noodles so the pasta wouldn’t get cooked to the bottom of the pot. “Polyamorous relationship? I've never heard of that before.” April inquired curiously, wanting to know more.
“A polyamorous relationship is basically a relationship where there are multiple partners involved. Consensually, of course.” Ash elaborated.
April slowly nodded her head, thinking about her friend’s response. A polyamorous relationship, huh? April thought to herself, cooking the noodles for another minute. April then put the scorching hot pot on another stove eye that was adjacent to the one that was used. The more that April thought of being in a relationship with both Donnie and Alex at the same time, the giddier she got. She adored the thought of dating the purple-masked turtle and the blonde-haired psychic.
“I mean, I like both of them. The sound of this polyamorous dynamic… it doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Of course, that’s if both Donnie and Alex are into that, you know?” The orangette commented, draining the water from the noodles. Once she did that, she evenly distributed the ramen noodles into two bowls.
Ashley left her phone face up on the counter, humming in understanding and acknowledgment. The brunette teenager got up from their seat and went to the fridge, opening it to find the other ingredients that they needed. They got the soy sauce, the gochujang, the peanut sauce, and the diced chives. “You need anything?” Ash asked before she decided to close the fridge.
“No, I don’t. I have the chili flakes already, so I don’t need anything other than the soy sauce.” April responded.
Ashley then closed the doors to the refrigerator. Walking over to their seat, Ash set all of the desired ingredients down on the counter in front of them. Ash started to pour in the soy sauce and gochujang, adding in the peanut sauce and chili flakes soon after. Ash passed the soy sauce to her orange-haired friend from across the table.
“Going back to what we were saying before,” April began as she stirred her ingredients up in her ramen, “I’ve… I’ve never felt this strongly about anyone else in my life before. Sure, there have been other classmates from school that have had crushes on me, and there have been other people that I’ve had small crushes on in the past. However, with Donnie and Alex, it’s different. My feelings for them are different… and stronger.” April took a few bites of her ramen, and she took a drink of her apple juice after. She cleared her throat, continuing to talk. “My feelings for Alex and Donnie are different, but in a good way. I feel nervous, sure, but, all in all, Donnie and Alex are people that I feel comfortable around. I feel like I can unapologetically be myself without running the risk of being ridiculed. Donnie is incredibly smart and caring, and Alex is just so nurturing and supportive. They’re amazing, Ash… but I-I don’t know what to do…” April stared at her noodles, deep in thought. She realized that she had been rambling this entire time while she and her friend were eating their dinner. “Shit, I didn’t realize I rambled. Sorry, Ash,” April said shrinkingly, taking a quick bite of her ramen. She giggled nervously with a blush coating her cheeks.
Ash took the last drink of her sweet tea before responding. “No, you’re fine, April. You’re not bothering me. Like I said earlier, I would just pull them aside whenever you deem the time is right and be honest with Donnie and Alex about how you’re feeling.” Ash advised her best friend as she finished up her ramen dinner.
April smiled at her comrade, her blush dying down. “Thanks, Ash. I figured I should get some advice from you since this is your older sister I’m talking about. That, and you are a good listener and very perceptive.” April explained, hastily devouring the rest of her bowl of ramen.
“Well, I see your point, and I’m glad that you trusted me enough to tell me all of that,” Ashley communicated as they put their dishes in the dishwasher. They also put up the ingredients and put them up in the refrigerator.
April nodded. “Of course! You’ve always been good at giving advice to others.” The orangette told the brunette as she, too, put her dishes in the dishwasher. As she closed the dishwasher, April smirked at Ash, turning to her friend. This cunning look on her friend’s face made Ash raise her brow. “You know, maybe you can dish out some information about you and Raph’s relationship over the movie we’re watching?”
Ash blushed, her cheeks burning red. “Oh, hush!” Ash exclaimed.
“Come on! I admitted something to you, you have to admit something to me!” April protested, trying to convince the stubborn brunette woman to give her some sort of juicy information.
Ash crossed her arms across her chest. She sighed. “I mean… Raph and I have only been dating for a year now…” The brown-haired teenager trailed off in a low tone of voice.
“Come on!” April pleaded.
“Ugh, fine! You make a good point— you did share something with me, it’s only fair that I share something with you…” Ash acquiesced reluctantly.
April grinned. “YAY! Alright, Ash, let’s go put on that movie and talk about your love life!” The orange-haired teenager cheered, both of them walking out of the kitchen. “I’m going to get my pajamas on. You should do the same.” April said.
Ash playfully rolled her eyes. “April, I can just wear what I have on now. I’m just wearing a purple hoodie and grey sweatpants.” Ash countered.
“Fine by me. Just know that it gets really hot in my living room, which is where we’re crashing for the night.” April then walked away and went upstairs to her room so she could change into her nighttime clothes.
Guess I’ll get some movies out to choose from. Ashley thought to themself as they made their way into April’s living room. They sat down on the floor in front of the tv, covered up with a plush white blanket. As they searched through the drawer that was filled with movies, Ash saw a few that piqued her interest and she took them out, laying them next to her on the carpeted floor. Even though her friend was extremely anxious about bringing up her feelings to the purple-masked turtle and the blonde psychic, Ashley had a gut feeling that everything was going to go in April’s favor.

"Give yourself more credit." (. tmnt 2012 .)
SUMMARY: Leo is having doubts about his leadership, so he confides in his best friend, Ash.
NOTES: I absolutely LOVE writing for platonic relationships soooo much (that’s the greyromantic in me coming out ahhhh)!! I also want to highlight Ash’s friendships with the other characters, so I think this will be fun to explore! I think the friendship that Leo and Ash have is a powerful and stable friendship, and it’s one of my favorite dynamics (besides Ash and Raph) to write/think about. Also, this will give perspective on my view of Leo’s character as a whole. Enjoy! This will also have brief mentions of my friend's, @thepsyichckistune, oc, Alex.
WARNINGS: negative self-talk, insecure feelings and thoughts, elements of depression, mention of a character death, mentions of pregnancy.

EVERYONE HAD REALIZED THAT SOMETHING WAS OFF WITH LEONARDO.
The entire group had been shaken up by the recent events that had just happened. They finally defeated the Shredder after he terrorized and petrified the turtles and the kunoichis over the past couple of years. While that was definitely exciting news and the group’s bright future was ensured, Leo and the others had suffered the very impactful loss of someone special to all of them. During the final battle with their mortal enemy, Master Splinter lost his life. After the death of their Sensei, and once everything with the Shredder and the Kraang had blown over, the turtles and kunoichis had to take a breather. Everything that had taken place was proving to be challenging to process and reel from.
Each member of the family was dealing with the tragic incident in their own way. Donnie cooped himself up in his laboratory for the majority of the time, while Alex became more restless and sleepless. Mikey kept a cheerful disposition around others, but there were moments when his loved ones could see that he lost his spark. April busied herself with her schoolwork, and Casey lashed out more often and became more irritable. Raph’s anger and frustration were through the roof, often ruminating on what could have been, especially since now that he had to face the harsh reality that his dad wasn’t going to be around as his child’s grandfather. He often over-exercised to deal with his complicated emotions. Ashley had become more emotional than she usually is, a side effect of her pregnancy, and she wasn’t eating as she should’ve.
Leo, of course, wasn’t doing too well with everything that’s happened. He found it extremely challenging to lead the team or to even take part in daily activities. The leader in blue had no motivation to do anything— all he wanted was to see his father again. Speak to him one last time. Leo felt like he had to keep himself together for the team, and the already heavy responsibility of carrying the team felt even more weighted now that he is the head of the family. With all of these convoluted emotions, every traumatic event that has taken place, and trying to move on in life the best way he could— Leo experienced an incredible weight on his shoulders that he felt like he wasn’t ready to carry yet.
A few months had passed since Splinter passed away. Time moved slower for the group, particularly for the Hamato brothers. The days seemed more and more drawn out. The turtles and the kunoichis realized that nothing will be the same again, but they didn’t quite know how to move on with that reality. Nonetheless, they tried the best that they could.
Even though they had just suffered a terrible loss, the Hamato family had an exciting future to look forward to. Their new and steadily arriving family member. Ash opened the door to Donnie’s laboratory. “Thanks again for the quick check-up, D.” Ash thanked with a smile.
The purple-masked turtle followed behind the brunette, closing the door behind him. “No problem, Ash,” Donnie said, returning the smile. “If there are any other concerns that you have, I’ll be here.”
Ash nodded as she watched Donnie head upstairs. Ashley looked around for anyone else, but she didn’t see anyone. Ash knew that April and Alex had gone to the nearby grocery store to pick up some necessities for everyone. Casey and Raph had ventured out into the woods to train and blow off some steam. Leo’s whereabouts, however, weren’t known. This made Ash ponder where her leader could be, so she decided to ask the youngest Hamato brother if he knew where his eldest brother was. Where’s Mikey? The brunette wondered to themselves. Their pondering didn’t last long, though, as they heard Mikey cheering loudly from the living room. Ash walked into the living room upon hearing the sounds of the cartoon playing on the television.
Ash saw Mikey laying down on the sofa watching one of his old tv shows. Ash couldn’t remember what the show was called, but it was similar to Crognard except the protagonist was female. Judging by some of the voice lines that they could hear, Ash could surmise that this female protagonist was the long-lost sister of Crognard. “Hey, Mikey.” Ashley greeted, standing by the sofa.
“Heya, dudette!” Mikey cheered, turning to face Ash. He paused his show, grinning widely. “What’s up? How are you feeling?” He asked.
Ash giggled nervously. “I, uh, feel pregnant. I may not look very pregnant, but I definitely feel like I’m pregnant.” The brunette responded. They sighed, looking toward the tv. “Luckily, Donnie said that me and the baby are healthy, which is relieving, considering that I’ve had a hard time keeping food down.” Ash turned back towards their friend as they fiddled with the bow on their dress.
“Cool, cool. Have you come to watch Creyna and the Princesses of Power with me?!” Mikey inquired excitedly.
Ah, that’s right. That’s what that show is called. She thought to herself. “Isn’t this Creyna show a rip-off of She-Ra—”
“It’s not a rip-off!” Mikey interjected quickly, jumping up from his seat.
“I mean, Crognard is pretty similar to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which, by the way, is totally the superior show. Just stating the facts.” Ash stated nonchalantly, shrugging her shoulders.
“Well, Crognard is wayyyy better than He-Man and you know it!” Mikey protested the statement his friend said.
Ash chuckled, finally getting the reaction that she wanted. “I’m just poking fun at you, Mikey. Chill.” Their chuckle turned into giggles and then died down. “Anyways, I actually came in here to ask if you knew where Leo was.” Ash voiced.
At this statement, Mikey frowned. Ash tilted her head at this. “Leo… is at Sensei’s grave.” The orange-masked turtle informed his friend. His blue eyes held sadness and concern in his expression.
Ash frowned upon hearing this news. “Dammit… how long has he been out there? Do you know?” Ash questioned, their golden honey orbs holding sympathy.
“I don’t really know. Maybe a couple of hours…?” Mikey answered.
Ash blinked at his answer, her golden hues wide for a brief moment. “Alright, alright… I’ll go talk to him. Maybe I could convince him to come inside for a bit and take a break. I understand wanting to visit the graves of your loved ones, but continuously staying out there can’t be good for him.” Ash said, making her way towards the front door of April’s farmhouse.
“Yeah, good luck with that…” Mikey trailed off, turning back to the tv and unpausing his tv show. Sighing, Ash walked out of the house and made her way over to Leo.
Once they finally arrived at the blue-masked turtle, Ashley saw that Leo was sitting on his knees in front of Splinter’s grave. Just seeing her best friend in this state made her heartache. Ash didn’t want her friends to go through all of this pain and suffering. No one had ever asked for such a horrible event to happen.
“Mikey, if you’re trying to make me come inside, it’s not going to work. Leave me alone!” Leo barked in a brusque tone of voice. Ash could tell how hardened and jaded their best friend had become. It saddened her immensely to witness Leo in this situation.
“Leo, it’s me,” Ash said, speaking softly.
Leo sat up straighter, quickly turning his head. “Ashley?” The blue-masked turtle inquired, “I thought Donnie was giving you a check-up?” He saw Ash standing beside him, wearing a long-sleeved white collared shirt and a black overall dress with black tights and white combat boots. They also wore a maroon bow at the collar, and they had on a thick maroon headband, as well.
“He already gave me that check-up, which went well, by the way. Me and the baby are healthy.” The brunette informed Leo. Ash quietly sat down beside her leader. She sat on her knees, and she looked toward the gravestone. Ash let the silence linger for a brief moment before speaking up. “Leo, you should come back inside for a bit. Take a break. I think Mikey wants to watch Creyna and the Princesses of Power with someone.” Ash said steadily, hoping that by mentioning his little brother Leo would have a motivation to go back inside.
Alas, that didn’t work. “He can find someone else to watch it with. I’m not coming inside,” Leo replied stubbornly.
Ash took a deep breath before exhaling. “You know, Raph and I are the stubborn ones, not you.” The brunette said calmly.
“What are you implying?”
“I’m implying that you’re being stubborn. Leo, you have every right to visit Master Splinter‘s grave. I’m not trying to tell you that you can’t. However, you can’t stay out here 24/7. You have to be around us so you’re not alone.” Ashley explained to her leader collectedly.
“I’m fine, Ash, I… I don’t mind being alone for a while…” Leo said solemnly. They both looked at the grave in front of them in silence for a moment.
Ash scooted closer to the turtle. They put their hand on his shoulder. Leo looked at Ash, seeing that she was smiling reassuringly at him. Ash could see the distant look in Leo’s ocean blue eyes. It wasn’t surprising to Ash that they got the feeling that Leo needed to get some things off of his chest. “Hey, Leo, I’m here for you if you need to talk. If you need to rant and get something off of your chest — or, rather, plastron — then don’t hesitate to come to me.” Ash voiced her concern about her best friend, being mindful of how she phrased her sentence.
The leader sighed. “I-I don’t know where to start, or how to start this…” Leo trailed off sheepishly.
Ash took her hand away from his shoulder. “It’s alright. If you feel comfortable, then spill however much you want to spill.” Ash told him composedly. The brunette recognized that this kind of conversation took patience, and she didn’t want to make Leo feel like he was being pressured into giving her these bits of personal information.
“O-Okay… um…” Leo paused to try and gather his thoughts the best that he could. He didn’t want to burden his best friend with his troubles, but, nonetheless, he found himself beginning to ramble. “I-I just feel so overwhelmed with what has happened.” He said slowly, piecing together what he was saying. “Part of me feels like I’m not ready to be the head of the family. What if I let everyone down? What if… what if I let Master Splinter down?” The leader’s voice began to break and crack from the influx of complicated emotions he was experiencing.
Ash held sympathy in her features. She frowned. Ash felt her tears about to escape, and she tried her best not to let them out. It wasn’t like her to get so emotional out of the blue, but that was a side effect of the pregnancy that she was experiencing. Also, discussing anything related to Master Splinter was too challenging for anyone to do as of now. “You won’t let anyone down. You won’t let Master Splinter down. In fact, you haven’t let any one of us down at all, Leo.” Ashley voiced to her best friend. She could still see the troubling look in his deep blue eyes as if he was doubting what the brunette woman was saying.
“Ash, this is all just so much…! I feel like I’ll never lift this weight off of my shoulders!” Leo started to sniffle, his deep blue orbs glossing over. Leo blinked back the tears that were about to be released. Leo stared longingly at his father’s grave. “I just wish that I could speak to Sensei one more time…” The blue-masked turtle whispered softly. The heartbreak in his voice was evident as he wiped his falling tears away.
Ash’s throat went sore. She swallowed hard, thinking of what to say to her comrade. Ash knew that they were about to cry, and before they knew it, their tears were cascading down their face. Hearing Leo say that he wanted to speak with his father one more time shattered her heart. Her bottom lip trembled. “Give yourself more credit,” Ash whispered softly, placing her hand on his shell. Leo looked at the brunette. It was a rare sight to see Ashley starting to break down like this. “You’re an excellent leader. Master Splinter loved all of us, he believed in all of us. I know I’ve never been one for hierarchies or statuses, but I can see how much stress you go through just with the title of leader.” The brunette had noticed a lot about Leo’s character and personality throughout the time of her knowing the turtles. She could tell that Leo, who was just a young adult, carried the lives of his brothers, his friends, and thousands of people in New York City on his shoulders from the young age of fifteen. From that age, Leo had been in the mindset that he is responsible for everything that happens or has happened because he is the leader.
That mindset was something that Ash noticed Leo couldn’t snap out of. Leo got that mindset from his father. Splinter pushed so much responsibility onto his teenage son, and Leo’s home life and work were never distinctly separated. They were one and the same, and because of that and what Ash has observed, Leo was unable to distinguish between being a leader and being a brother within his other relationships. Ash had her own opinions about events that had happened and how Master Splinter went about certain things, but she was always apprehensive about questioning how the turtles were raised and Splinter’s parenting. Her opinions on that matter weren’t something that she entirely shared. Leonardo Hamato is a very complex character, and Ashley Singh was incredibly aware of that.
“It-It’s so hard to handle…!” Leo exclaimed brokenly, tears beginning to pour from his deep cobalt blue eyes. He quickly wiped his tears from his face. Leo mentally kicked himself for not keeping himself together in front of his friend.
Ash opened up her embrace for Leo to take. Leo hugged his brunette teammate tightly. “Don’t hold anything in, Leo. It’s not healthy to bottle up your emotions, okay?” Ash gently said, earning a small nod from the turtle. They remained in that secured embrace as Leo cried out all of his repressed emotions. Ash soothed their best friend, rubbing circles on his shell comfortingly. Ash could feel Leo’s tears fall onto her neck, and there was a wet spot on her white shirt. His breathing was hiccuped, and he blinked quickly. Soon, Leo’s choked sobs became steadier. He sniffled, and the leader started to calm himself down after he had a moment to let out all of his feelings.
As Leo broke the hug with Ash, he saw the brunette offer him a teary-eyed empathetic smile. “I-I’m sorry for breaking down like that, Ash…” Leo apologized as he wiped his remaining tears from his eyes.
“Don’t apologize, Leo. It’s completely okay to cry out your emotions. It’s healthy, even.” Ash comforted him, her voice softer in tone. “You can come to us for anything, alright? I definitely know that’s easier said than done, but it’s true.”
Leo nodded. “Yeah, you’re right.”
“Even though we’ve gone through a lot of traumatic situations, we all have a lot to look forward to. You, Mikey, and Donnie are about to be uncles to me and Raph’s kid! Things may get turbulent, but there is a rainbow after a storm.” Ash conveyed, subliminally placing her hand over her tummy. She stood up from the ground, reaching out her hand for him to take. Leo took her hand, using her help to stand up from the ground. “Now, come on, let’s get you back inside. Mikey still needs a buddy to watch his shows with.” Ash said with a smile.
Leo smiled gratefully, the November wind picking up. He was incredibly appreciative to have a best friend like Ashley, and he knew he was lucky to have such a strong friendship with them. Their friendship was incredibly powerful, and nothing was going to shatter that relationship. Not even the hardships they are going through currently.

Anxiety (. tmnt 2003 .)
SUMMARY: April and Harley go on an emergency trip to the grocery store when everything goes completely wrong.
NOTES: This oneshot features my friend's (@thepsyichckistune) ocs, Alex, Bella, and Alec btw. I wanted to write something about an event that would contribute to Harley’s character, and so here we are! I tried to get a good characterization for Bella, but idk a lot about her character. I tried my best lol 😆
WARNINGS: depictions of gore, mugging/being robbed, near-death experience, brief depictions of panic attacks, brief depictions of PTSD, brief mentions of drugs/alcohol.

HARLEY CONTINUED TO SUCK ON HER BUTTERSCOTCH LOLLIPOP.
She waited — very impatiently — for her Aunt April to check out with the groceries. All she wanted to do was train with her Uncle Leo and spar with her cousin and younger twin siblings, mainly because Harley wanted to get back at her brother, Steele, for pranking her earlier in the day. Unfortunately for the fifteen-year-old girl, Harley was instructed to accompany her Aunt April to the grocery store because of the number of necessities that they had to get.
Harley tapped her foot restlessly. She looked up at her Aunt April, seeing that the red-haired older woman had finished scanning the groceries. Once April had finally finished scanning the groceries, she turned to her niece. “Hey, Harls, you mind giving me a hand with the bags of groceries?” April inquired as she took the first few grocery bags.
“FINALLY! You’re done!” Harley exclaimed, sticking her butterscotch lollipop in her mouth and holding it there. The light brunette teenager jumped at the chance to help her Aunt with carrying the grocery bags because it meant getting home to the lair quicker.
“Harley, you’re acting like that was the most grueling thing you’ve experienced,” April commented with a playful roll of her eyes. “Plus, you’re not in any hurry.”
Harley scoffed. “Uh, yeah, I am actually.” The teenager corrected jauntily as she and her Aunt walked out of the store. They made their way down the street, going down the usual route that they took to get back to the lair.
April lifted her brow. “Uh huh… what exactly do you have to do? Especially since it’s almost 1:30 in the morning.” The red-haired woman questioned her niece.
“I have to beat Steele’s ass for pranking me earlier today. That jackass thought that putting blue food coloring in my toothbrush this morning was real fucking funny…” Harley answered with a pestered grumble. Her two-times pink-green hues were slanted, irritation showing in her eyes.
“Watch your language, Harley Jade.” April chastised lightly, giving her a warning glance. “Also, Steele’s prank was pretty funny.” The Aunt giggled at the recollection of the light brunette having her white teeth stained a dark blue as a product of the prank her younger brother pulled on her.
Harley simply let out a “hmph” and brushed off the reprimand, obviously not caring about it. The two women turned down a corner of the street. Both Harley and April continued to walk down the streets of New York, the only light being that of the moon and the dim yellow of the street lamps. This part of the city was usually pretty quiet and remote. Compared to the hustle and bustle of downtown New York City, this section of the city was a barren wasteland. April and Harley typically chose this route to commute back to the lair because of the lack of people out, especially during the nighttime, which made it easier for them to get caught or have someone follow them and discover the turtles’ lair.
The aunt and niece duo took a right turn down an alleyway. However, something felt wrong. Something wasn’t right about the atmosphere and circumstances, and both Harley and April could feel how off this was. That’s when April and Harley turned around and saw a black-haired woman with pale skin approach them. The woman was in a battered burnt orange short-sleeved t-shirt and ripped white jeans. The woman was clearly under the influence of some type of substance, whether alcohol or a kind of drug or maybe even a mix of both, as she was mumbling slurred speech and stumbling on her footing. She also looked skinny. Incredibly and unhealthily skinny.
“Um… can we help you?” April spoke up, her words getting caught in her throat at the beginning. She put herself in front of Harley, forcing the teen to be shielded behind her aunt.
“Give me… give me everything you have…” The black-haired woman slurred, her voice lower in tone.
April raised a brow. “Excuse me?” The red-haired older woman inquired as she backed herself and Harley away from the dangerous woman. The unpredictable woman kept getting closer and closer to the two women, mumbling about incoherent manners. April and Harley weren’t entirely focusing their attention on whatever this woman was muttering. April and Harley widened their eyes when they saw the woman had a huge boning knife in her grasp.
“I said… GIVE ME ALL YOUR DAMN STUFF!!” The woman screeched. The mugger had then lunged right at April, charging at her, causing the aunt and niece to drop all of their things.
Harley’s eyes widened, taking her lollipop out of her mouth and hastily throwing it to the side. Harley then quickly and forcefully pushed her Aunt April out of the way of the woman, letting out a pained grunt as she felt the stinging pain of the boning knife plunging into her lower torso area. Harley gritted her teeth to bear with the aching pain, and the next thing the fifteen-year-old did was grab the woman by the back of the neck and tackle her to the ground. Harley’s choice of action caused an altercation between the two of them on the ground, and in doing so, it dug the knife deeper into her lower abdomen.
April let out a horrified scream. “HARLEY!!” April roared out painfully with tears in her eyes.
“Goddamnit, bitch!” Harley cursed as she struggled to gain control of the bladed weapon. Harley could feel the blood from the abdomen wound pour with every movement she made, but she brushed it off. Harley was completely engulfed in adrenaline and anger. “YOU DON’T EVEN THINK OF FUCKING HURTING MY AUNT, YOU HEAR ME, MOTHERFUCKER?!?!” Harley bellowed as she pinned the pale-skinned woman’s right arm down harshly with her knee. At this action, the woman bared her teeth in agony and rage like she was an animal rather than a human. The unhinged woman then proceeded to take the knife that was in her left hand, reach over, and stab the fifteen-year-old girl harshly in her right thigh.
“FUCK!” Harley cussed once again out of pain. She felt her Aunt’s arms wrap around her underarms and try to pull her back away from the woman, but it was no use on April’s part. Harley was too emotional at the moment. Lightly sweating and slightly out of breath, the light brunette teenager immediately drew her arm back, made a fist, and swiftly punched the woman straight in the nose. The woman’s nose started to bleed profusely, and she had been knocked out instantly by Harley’s hard-hitting punch.
Harley heaved, the adrenaline in her body and mind beginning to wear down. April managed to get her critically injured niece up off of the unconscious woman. April was mortified at the event that just went down. Gently laying Harley down on the ground, April hastily took off her shirt, which revealed a white tank top underneath, and her niece’s jacket. April took her pale yellow shirt and tied it around the wound on Harley’s upper thigh, and she took Harley's blue leather jacket and tied it around her lower abdomen the best that she could. April O’Neil could only hope and pray that this helped stop the bleeding.
“Hey… Auntie… you alright?” Harley asked with raspiness in her voice. Harley coughed harshly, coughing up blood that dripped from her chin and down her neck.
April’s bottom lip quivered. “Shhh… Harley. Save your strength. Don’t speak. I-I’ll get you to your Uncle Donnie…” The red-haired aunt wanted to break down and cry right then and there. She saw the crimson blood of her own niece pooling everywhere on the pavement. April was kicking herself immensely for what had happened. How could she have let Harley get hurt? Loved ones are supposed to always be there for each other and protect each other from anything. April felt like an immense failure like she had let down the entire Hamato family, especially Ashley and Raphael. What was April going to tell the others?
April could see Harley’s eyes rolling into the back of her head. “Oh, shit! Stay with me, Harley! Stay with me! Don’t worry, I’ll get you home.” April frantically told her niece, making her way down to the lair.

“Don’t you think Aunt April and Harley should’ve been back by now?” Twelve-year-old Bella questioned her Sensei as she readjusted her ponytail, pulling it tighter. Bella was training with her Uncle Leo, trying to harness her control over her psychic abilities, especially now that they were beginning to manifest to a stronger degree. While Bella and Leo were training, Raph and Ash were in the other training room training eleven-year-old Steele and Tessa. Eight-year-old Whitney and seven-year-old Alec were spending quality time with their grandpa Splinter, talking to him about various matters. Casey and Mikey were playing video games together, having made some kind of bet, while Donnie and Alex were in the laboratory together.
“I’m sure they’ll be back soon, Bella.” Her Uncle Leo told her reassuringly. “They had a big list of things to get, so it may take them a bit longer than usual.”
“I know, but… something just… doesn’t feel right,” Bella stated, a sense of disquietude settling in the pit of her stomach.
Leo raised a brow curiously. “Bella, I’m sure everything is fine. Maybe some meditation can help?” The blue-masked turtle suggested it to his niece.
The red-haired girl thought for a minute, then decided that she needed to do some meditation. “Yeah, I think it’ll help, Uncle Leo!” Bella said with a small smile. Sometimes she could in her own head, Bella knew, and she knew that focusing and steadying her mind would benefit her in gaining control of her psychic abilities.
Leo returned the smile. His niece’s sweet smile was always so infectious. Leo nodded, sitting down on the floor. He instructed Bella to sit down next to him by silently patting his hand on the spot next to him. Bella did as she was told, and she sat down next to her sensei. “Remember, Bella,” Leo spoke up, their meditation session starting, “keep your mind focused and clear, calm and unbothered.”
As a few minutes went by, the blue-banded turtle and the redheaded pre-teen had been making steady progress. That was until they were interrupted.
“DONNIE!! GUYS!!” A woman’s desperate cries for help were heard from the entrance of the lair. Casey and Mikey turned around, seeing that April was holding a wounded Harley in her arms. Casey and Mikey immediately ran over to a hysterical April and an injured Harley. By now, everyone had rushed out of whatever room they were in to see what the commotion was about. Everyone was petrified and scared, especially Whitney. At the sight of her eldest sister unconscious in her aunt’s arms, Whitney’s immediate thought was that her sister was dead. Steele and Tessa were frozen in place, along with Bella. Whitney hugged her cousin, Bella, as tears rolled down her face. Alec held Tessa’s hand for a sense of comfort. It was a comfort that he didn’t get.
The turtles, Ash, and Alex were at April and Harley’s side instantly. Ash and Raph were stunned into silence, all they could do was witness the sight of their dying child. The fact that both Ashley and Raphael were silent was… scary… to say the least. However, it was understandable. Extremely understandable. “April, what happened to Harley?!” Donnie questioned as he took his niece in his arms.
“S-She… g-got s-stabbed…” April breathily and briefly explained. She couldn’t get her sentences out because of her rapid and fast breathing. April was a blubbering and emotional mess. With her sobbing and crying and lack of control over her breathing, it was clear that April was experiencing a panic attack. Alex and Casey exchanged a look before nodding.
“Hey, April, let’s go in the other room, sit down, and try and calm down,” Casey suggested.
“Yeah, we got your back. Let’s go take a breather.” Alex said as she and Casey led April into the other room to try and aid her in calming down.
“Alright, I’m going to operate on her. Don’t disturb me!” Donnie said seriously, rushing into his lab to begin the surgery.
“Wait, Don! Can one of us be in there with Harley?” Raph asked, referring to him and Ash.
“No, it’s an emergency situation!” Donnie responded curtly. With that, the doors to his lab were shut.
Everyone was stunned into silence. In the blink of an eye, tragedy and trauma had struck the Hamato family. After a few long minutes of somber quietness, the orange-masked turtle spoke up. “Poor Harley…” Mikey muttered sadly.
Ash tried to keep it together. She wanted to keep her composure and calm for the sake of her other kids and her niece and her nephew. However, Ash didn’t even realize that she was already shedding tears. She couldn’t believe what they had just seen. The sight of Harley looking like she was clinging to life was burned into everyone’s minds, especially Raph and Ash’s minds. Her mind went blank as she saw how much pain and agony her eldest daughter was in.
Leo sat on the couch next to Mikey with his head in his hands. Mikey looked on at the solemn and somber atmosphere in the room. He wanted to do everything in his power to make all of the horrors disappear, but he just couldn’t. Splinter and Bella walked over to Leo, Splinter placing his hand on his shell while Bella hugged him tightly. Leo hugged back as Bella softly cried. Whitney, Alec, and Tessa walked over to their Uncle Mikey, who pulled them all close together in a hug.
Raph clenched his fists in anger. He gritted his teeth and growled. He turned around, letting out a frustrated cry as he punched the brick wall behind him and his wife. The brick wall had a huge fist-sized hole in it now that Raph had punched. Leo nor any of his other family members reprimanded or disciplined Raph because they were just as distraught and angry. “I swear to god… whoever hurt my little girl is going to get their ass kicked!!” Raph said bitterly, hitting his fist against the wall multiple times.
Ash stared down at the floor in trepidation and shock. All she wanted to do was hurt the one who hurt her daughter. Ashley went deadly and scarily silent, her fists clenched to the point where her knuckles turned white. Steele approached his mother cautiously. He had never seen his mother so incredibly angry and upset. In fact, none of the third generation of Hamatos had ever seen their mother or Aunt Ashley this pissed off.
The young turtle boy walked over to his mother slowly. He was pondering if he should even do this, if he should even attempt to talk to her. He wanted to comfort his mom and dad, but he didn’t know how to. Comforting others was never Steele’s forte. Still, he wanted to try so his parents would know the effort he made.
“Mama…?” Steele spoke up meekly, an uncommon tone of voice for him. Ash didn’t respond to her son. “Mama… um…” Steele trailed off awkwardly. He tried to think of what to say, but he couldn’t think of anything at all. Instead, the young turtle tot hugged his mother, wrapping his arms around her waist, and laid his head on her tummy.
At her son’s action, Ashley seemed to snap out of her thoughts. She hadn’t even recognized that she was crying or that her son was talking to her. “Steele…” Ash mumbled brokenly. The brunette woman hugged her son tightly. That’s when her bottom lip trembled. In an instant, Ash just fell to the ground, quietly crying while letting out soft hiccups. Steele fell down with his mother, right when Raph came over to his wife and son to comfort them.
“Mama… Dad… what’s going to happen to Harley…?” Steele asked his mother and father softly.
All Ashley did was hug her son tighter, crying even harder than before. Raph couldn’t bear to look his son in the eyes. He didn’t know how to even answer that question. “I-I don’t know, buddy… I don’t know…” Raph trailed off somberly.
Hours and hours went by with Donnie performing the emergency surgery on Harley. It seemed like it took days rather than hours because of how much tension there was in the atmosphere. During this time, April, Alex, and Casey had come back into the living room. April was still very distraught, but she owed the Hamato family an explanation as to what happened. The turtles, the kunoichis, their children, Casey, and Splinter could tell that April felt extremely guilty about what happened. This was really eating her up on the inside. Everyone was worried sick for Harley, and the unknown was incredibly scary to them. All they could do was hope that Donnie could save Harley.
“Oh, god, it’s all my fault that Harley is in this situation!” April cried, her voice full of guilt. She put her head in her hands as Alec and Mikey comforted her. “I… I completely understand if you all hate me… especially you, Ashley, Raphael, Tessa, Whitney, Steele…” April sighed shakily. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Harley herself hates me, too…” The red-haired woman muttered.
“April, we don’t hate you. You didn’t have any sort of inkling that this was going to happen.” Alex comforted the older woman.
“I-I was right there! Right there! I could have stepped in and saved her, but it was escalating s-so quickly…!” April sobbed quietly. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”
Leo went to say something about the matter, and so did Alex, but no one got a chance to say anything they had to say. Donnie opened the doors to his lab, which gained everyone’s attention. All of them stood up from their seats, and everyone was awaiting the outcome of Harley.
“Stay here, kids,” Raph instructed. Ashley and Raphael ran over to the purple-banded turtle, who looked very stressed.
“Donnie…?” Ash murmured quietly. She linked one arm around her husband’s arm. She squeezed his hand for a sense of comfort, and Raph squeezed back.
“How did it go? Is Harley going to be okay?” Raph asked frantically.
Donnie was silent for a minute. He had a solemn and unfortunate look on his face. He sighed. “I think she’s going to pull through. It’s not guaranteed, as she’ll be in a coma for a while. I’m hoping with her superhuman abilities Harley will pull through.” Donnie explained to his family. “Harley is lucky to have even survived the surgery. She lost a copious and dangerous amount of blood… I nearly lost her three times while I was operating.” He tried to keep his voice down for the last part so the kids couldn’t hear, but he knew that was going to be hard for him to do, as he needed to notify everyone. Hearing this news, gasps rang out in the room. Upon receiving this message, Whitney and Bella shrieked with fright. Alex took her daughter and her youngest niece in her arms and comforted them the best that she could.
Ash just began to sob as she looked Donnie right in the eyes. “My baby girl…! My poor baby girl…!” The brunette woman sobbed as Raph pulled her into his embrace.
“Can we see her, Don?” Raph questioned softly. It was an unusual tone of voice for the typically hotheaded ninja turtle, but it was a somber and heartbreaking element to the sound of his voice.
Donnie nodded. “You can. I would prefer it to be just you two and me in the room.” He told them.
“Alright,” Ash whispered tearfully. She held Raph’s hand tightly as the couple walked into the laboratory. When they entered Donnie’s laboratory, the parents’ hearts stopped beating in their chests. They ran over to the hospital bed to see their eldest daughter. Donnie followed slowly behind them, wanting to give his brother and his brother’s wife some space to be with their child. Raph and Ash stood on either side of the hospital bed with Ash on the left side and Raph on the right side.
All that the parents could do was just stare at their unconscious daughter. Both Raph and Ash had been through some scary moments in their lives, but this was by far one of the worst things they’d had to experience. Their poor little girl was barely clinging to life, and she had gone through a lot of trauma in such a short amount of time. Raphael fell to his knees, taking his child’s hand in his own. Ash and Donnie could practically feel the immense amount of anger, rage, and tragedy in the atmosphere. Ashley brushed Harley’s bubblegum pink and light brown bangs from her eyes so the mother could kiss her child’s forehead.
It was silent. It was the absolute worst silence in the world for the three of them. After a long moment, Raph spoke up. “Hey, Donnie?” The red-masked turtle gained his brother’s attention.
“Yeah, Raph?”
“How long is Harley’s recovery going to be?”
“Well, it’s kind of tough to determine a specific duration of time. It’s also hard to say when Harley will wake up from her coma.” Donnie answered calmly. On the outside, Donnie kept a level head. Donnie had always been one of the ones to keep a collected and balanced train of thought compared to his brothers and the kunoichis, but deep inside, he was incredibly agitated and panic-stricken. He didn’t know how Harley’s recovery was going to go. There was an incredible amount of unknown that was up in the air, and there was a tremendous amount of pressure and stress on Donnie to save Harley and help her recover from her injuries.
“Now, as I stated earlier because Harley is half-mutant, her recovery should be quicker than a normal human would.” Donnie explained, “Harley’s healing abilities should benefit her in her recovery, but considering the fact that she lost a perilous amount of blood, the outcome is… well, inconclusive.”
The couple took a few seconds to take in the information that Donnie gave them. “Thank you, Donnie… I know that was very stressful and hard to do.” Ash expressed softly, her voice breaking with emotional pain. Her eyes were red and puffy, and her cheeks had tear stains on them.
“Of course, Ash, I’ll do anything to save and help Harley,” Donnie said.
Over the next few days, the demeanor of the lair was very tense. Donnie would only allow himself and two other family members inside to visit Harley, as he didn’t want it to be too crowded and he didn’t want anything to get contaminated. Besides Ash and Raph visiting the fifteen-year-old the most, the others that would visit Harley the most were Bella and Tessa.
Even though Bella and Tessa were taking this event really hard, they were the only ones out of the third generation of Hamatos that was handling it better. Whitney and Alec were too young and they didn’t understand what was happening. Plus, they were too hysterical. All Whitney and Alec knew was that their big sister and eldest cousin were severely hurt. When April initially brought Harley back, they both thought that Harley had died. Steele, after the initial shock wore off from seeing his older sister like that, decided that the sight of one of the people that he looked up to the most in a horrid state like that was too scarring for him. Unless he had to go in there and see Harley, he wasn’t stepping foot in his Uncle Donnie’s laboratory if he didn’t have to. April occasionally went to visit her niece, but her immense guilt and regret were too much for her to bear. Because of that fact, April kept a distance from Donnie’s lab, as witnessing Harley in that state was too disturbing for her.
Bella and Tessa were visiting their eldest cousin, as they were still very worried for Harley. Their Uncle Donnie had to step out of his lab for a quick moment to get something to eat, something that Alex had forced her husband to do because he had been extremely busy taking care of his niece for the past couple of days. While monitoring Harley’s progress was necessary, Alex also didn’t want her husband’s self-care to dwindle. This left Tessa and Bella in the lab with Harley by themselves for a while. Usually, an adult would be there with them. However, with Donnie taking a well-deserved break and the other adults being busy with the other kids, Bella and Tessa were left by themselves in the lab with Harley.
Bella sighed sadly, taking her unconscious cousin’s hand in hers. “Do you think that Harley is ever going to wake up?” The red-haired girl asked in a whisper, turning to her turtle cousin that stood right next to her. Bella was very clearly hurting from seeing her cousin in this state.
Tessa’s onyx eyes glossed over for a brief moment. She kept her gaze on her older sister, seeing her chest rise and fall steadily. Tessa didn’t understand why Harley had to go through all of this. The young turtle didn’t know why her family was being put through so much pain and agony. Why did the universe decide that this was an event that the Hamato family had to experience? It didn’t make any sense to Tessa. Sure, Harley could be challenging to deal with at times, but she didn’t deserve this. Harley supported not only Tessa but so many others through their hardships. Why did this have to happen to Harley? Why did Harley have to be clinging to her life?
Blinking back her tears, the young ninja turtle turned to her older cousin. “She’ll wake up. Harley is strong and resilient. Nothing will take her out that easily.” Tessa responded with ease and determination.
Bella looked at her younger cousin. After a few seconds, she smiled. Her smile held a sense of amusement to it, and she elicited a giggle. “You know, sometimes you remind me of Uncle Leo,” Bella commented.
Tessa scoffed. “Oh, hush, you,” The young turtle muttered as she lightly flicked the side of Bella’s head.
“HEY! What was that for?” Bella questioned with a smirk. She found her cousin’s reaction to her statement quite pleasing.
“Just shut up,” Tessa said casually as she crossed her arms across her plastron.
Bella pouted, letting out a “tch” sound. “You can be mean, you know that, right?” Bella pointed out. Although, her tone of voice had no evidence of being jaded.
“You’re right. I can be mean when I want to.” Tessa replied nonchalantly. She had a smug grin on her face.
Yup, Tessa is definitely Auntie Ash and Uncle Raph’s daughter. Bella thought as she rolled her black eyes playfully. Right as she was going to reply with something witty, something that would most likely annoy Tessa, the two girls heard soft groaning from beside them. Tessa and Bella immediately looked toward Harley, who started to stir.
Bella and Tessa blinked in shock. They were both paralyzed. “What the fuck.” Tessa cursed out of shock, which caused Bella to smack her upside the head as a reprimand. Harley’s pink-green two-toned hues fluttered open.
“Are you seeing this, Bella?”
“I sure am, Tessa,”
Harley slowly sat up in the hospital bed. She frowned, confused as to what was happening. Harley held her head, and she glared at her cousin and her younger sister. “Will you two shut the hell up? My head is fucking killing me.” The light brown-haired teenager complained in a groggy voice.
Bella started breathing rapidly, tears streaming down her face. Tessa wiped the tears that were pricking her eyes. “Bella, go get Uncle Donnie,” Tessa instructed breathlessly. Tessa grinned widely, instantly running to her older sister and embracing her tightly. Bella ran to go and retrieve her father with little protest.
Harley grunted at her sister’s affection. “Tessa, get off of me!” Harley demanded, her voice raspy and low.
“No! I almost lost you! We almost lost you!” Tessa said with a big grin, burying her face in her neck.
Harley realized how terrified Tessa was. She relented, hugging her baby sister in return. “It’s okay, T. I’m here,” Harley said gently, an uncommon tone of voice for her, and she pulled Tessa close to her.
That’s when Donnie ran into the room, quickly followed by Ash, Raph, Steele, and Whitney. Everyone else stayed at the entrance until they had the clear to come closer. They also let the family have their moment with Harley. Harley was bombarded by her parents and her siblings and their affections. Raph and Ash embraced their eldest daughter as they cried, Whitney cheering happily as she hugged her older brother.
“Big sis Harley! You’re alright!” Whitney cheered happily as she let tears fall from her eyes.
“Harley, I’m so glad you’re awake…” Ash whispered softly, her broken sobs of relief ringing out in the room. Steele just remained silent as he hugged Whitney, blinking away the tears that wanted to flow out.
“How ya doin’, Harley?” Raph asked his daughter, relief wavering in his voice.
“Fucking exhausted, that’s for sure,” Harley muttered as she was being squeezed by the hugs her family was giving her. Harley looked toward Bella and Alec, rolling her eyes playfully at the affection her family was giving her. Bella and Alec snickered at their cousin’s reaction. Harley then looked back at her father, only to see him wipe away his tears. “Dad, are you crying?” Harley asked, confused. There had been very rare occasions that she’s seen her rough-and-tough father she’d tears.
Raph ruffled his daughter’s short light caramel brown hair, which earned a small grumble of annoyance from Harley. “Ya caught me, squirt. Ya caught me.” Raph said with a chuckle, looking up at his wife with a grin. Ash grinned, as well.
“I hate to break up the reunion, but I don’t want Harley’s stitches and sutures to bust from all of the hugging.” Donnie said. He approached the bedside as the little family dispersed to give him room to work. Donnie began taking Harley’s vitals, happiness swelling in his heart.
“Uncle Don? Do you have any ibuprofen or Advil or some combo meds that I can take?” Harley questioned her uncle, holding her side. “My head and abdomen are fucking killing me! And my leg is sore! Shit, this isn’t fun…”
“Well, duh, of course, you're hurting! You were stabbed pretty badly, Harls!” Little Alec voiced, oblivious to the fact that he could possibly trigger traumatic memories for Harley. Of course, he was only seven years old, so he wouldn’t know any better.
Harley froze in her place. Her two-toned hues widened slightly. Horrid recollections came flooding back to her mind. She could see the knife being stabbed into her leg. Harley could visualize the frantic cries of her Aunt April as she was patching up her wounds the best she could in order to stop the bleeding. Harley recalled how the crimson lake stretched from her all the way to where the attacker was lying unconscious on the pavement. Harley could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and her head started pounding even harder against her skull.
“… Harley…?” Whitney poked her eldest sister's cheek to get her attention.
Harley blinked a couple of times. She looked down at her baby sister and gave her a reassuring smile, even though she still felt that sinking feeling in her chest. “I’m fine, Whitney! I’d gander to say that I’m pretty fucking strong. Nothing is going to take me down that easily!” Harley boasted, flipping her hair and straightening her posture.
“Yeah, you’re right, Harley!” Whitney said with a bright smile and admiration in her eyes.
“Well, I’m just glad this situation didn’t take a turn for the worse,” Leo said, crossing his arms across his plastron.
“Yeah, I miss my gaming buddy!” Mikey exclaimed.
“I miss beating you and Uncle Casey in Super Smash Bros, too, Uncle Mikey,” Harley said with a giggle.
Mikey and Casey rolled their eyes playfully. As Harley and her other family members were talking, Donnie finished taking his niece’s vitals. “Okay, Harley, I’ve finished taking your vitals. You need all the rest that you can get.” Donnie told the fifteen-year-old, handing her a small glass of water and some medications to ease her symptoms.
Harley nodded as she took the items in her hands. “You got it.” The brunette teenager said before taking the various medications and setting down the small glass of water on the bedside table.
“Aww, you’re going to go back to sleep again after you’ve woken up? That’s stupid.” Alec said from the entrance of the laboratory.
“It’s not stupid, Alec,” Alex gently explained to her son, who looked up at his mother, “Harley needs her rest so she can get better.”
“Then, once she’s better, can she help me with my training again?” Alec questioned.
Harley gave a thumbs up to her youngest cousin. “You betcha, Alec!” The sandy brown-haired teenager said confidently.
“Yay!” Little Alec cheered.
“We’ve all laid eyes on Harley. Now, she needs her rest. Let’s give her that moment to gain her strength back.” Master Splinter spoke up.
Everyone agreed with what the elder had said, and they all said their goodbyes to Harley. Steele, however, lagged behind a bit. He looked at his eldest sister, and all he could see in Harley’s eyes was fear and anxiety. Steele stopped in his tracks, turning to face Harley. “Hey, Harls?” He said slowly, debating on whether or not he wanted to bring this up.
“What is it, Steele?”
Steele sighed. “You’re okay, right? I could tell that when Alec mentioned how you got your injuries that you seemed off.” The young turtle ninja expressed his concerns. He figured he wasn’t going to get anything out of his sister, but it was worth a try. “I don’t want to make things too mushy because that’s not really either of our styles, but… you’ll tell me if anything gets bad… like… in your head, if you get what I’m trying to say.” Steele felt very awkward, but surprisingly, he was hiding it relatively well.
Harley seemed quite taken aback by her brother’s concern. “Um… yeah, I would. Anyways, I’m going to try and sleep off some of this pain. Talk to ya later, Steele.” Harley answered, keeping her response brief. Steele left the laboratory, feeling unsure about his sister’s answer. He knew deep down that she wasn’t going to say anything. That’s how she was wired, much like Ashley was. Like mother, like daughter.
Harley pulled the covers over her shoulders, trying to shield herself from the coldness of her uncle’s lab. Harley had a lot to think about. She couldn’t help but feel so much emotional and mental pain whenever her cousin mentioned the incident. Harley felt scared, helpless, and incredibly afraid to even think about leaving the lair. The thought of a blade absolutely terrified her to her core. She knew that she wasn’t going to be picking up her weapons for a good while, and she was going to be relying on her atmokinesis for the time being. Harley tried to get some sleep, but every time she closed her eyes, all she saw was the deep crimson lake that stretched across the concrete.

TMNT-VERSE INFO— the various versions of ashley maggie singh
NOTES: i decided to give my tmnt oc, ash (whose love interest is raph btw), face claims because that's easier for me to do lol (and I can’t draw worth a shit so there’s that). it takes a weight off my shoulders, and it's easier for me to visualize. i tried with the face claims lol. anyways, i wanted to do all of the incarnations because some incarnations don’t get enough spotlight when they should and it’s a problem 😤😤 this will be a brief synopsis of the characteristics of these versions of ashley. hopefully, i made these iterations different, yet similar to each other. enjoy! i'll be doing another info page for ash and raph's kids at some point.
WARNINGS: mentions of various unhealthy coping skills like undereating and overeating, self-sabotage, negative thoughts about oneself, mentions of being self-destructive, overworking, bottling up emotions, isolation, neglecting self-care, feelings of hopelessness, refusing help from others, taking out troubles through anger, dwelling on the past, terrible spending habits, insomnia, and catastrophizing situations, mentions of anxiety.

2012 ASH: face claim; tohru honda from fruits basket
This version of Ash is more standoffish compared to her other counterparts. She’s known for being a level-headed person, but upon first meeting her, others see her as cold and rude rather than reserved and honest. They’re quieter than most of their versions of themselves, next to 1990 Ash. She is self-destructive, but she’s very good at concealing it. Ashley tends to isolate herself from her loved ones, bury her feelings deeper inside her, and she doesn’t take care of herself like she should when something tragic happens to her. She has vulnerability and trust issues, as well, and it takes her a while to open up to others, so she often bottles up her emotions. Ash also makes humor out of the trauma that she’s experienced. She’s sarcastic, emotionally intuitive, creative, and observant.
2018/ROTTMNT ASH: face claim; lyna from lolirock
Rise Ashley is one of the only versions that feel comfortable sharing her feelings quicker. Honestly, Rise Ash is probably the more mature version of Ash. She’s more reflective and conscious about her emotions, personality, sexuality, etc. Because of that, they view whatever situation they’re in with a more reasonable lens. ROTTMNT Ashley is flexible and tolerant, and she views the situations she or others are in in a pragmatic manner. She’s more grounded in character, and she’s less likely to take an aggressive approach. 2018 Ashley is a diplomatic person, but when something negative happens to her, she mainly feels incredibly helpless and hopeless, and she withdraws herself from others. She also doesn’t want to feel like a burden to anyone, but she’ll eventually be convinced by one of her loved ones that she should talk it all out and not bottle everything she’s experiencing up. ROTTMNT Ashley also tends to overwork herself because it’s a distraction from how she’s feeling.
2003 ASH: face claim; rogue from x-men evolution
2003 Ashley is more confident at the beginning compared to their other versions, and it definitely shows. She’s steadfast and slightly cocky, and she knows what she wants and how to get it. When dealing with trauma, Ashley is inflexible and stubborn in the sense that she won’t let anyone help her. She convinces herself that she knows what she’s doing and that everything will be cleared up in time, but she can’t see how much she really needs her loved ones’ help. They’re also committed, dependable, and matter-of-fact. They can be vulgar at times and hard-headed in their beliefs, opinions, and morals.
1990 ASH: face claim; kelly hu (i think she was in one of the x-men movies and i wanna say that she was also in one of the friday the 13th movies, as well. she also voices d'vorah in mortal kombat.)
Ashley, in the 1990 version of TMNT, is responsible and she knows what she wants. She is a little quieter and a bit more meek, but she comes out of her shell once she gets to know the other person. Her nerdy side shows more compared to her other counterparts, and she lets her cutesy side poke out a little. 1990 Ashley makes light of her trauma in humor, and she tends to overeat when she’s under stress. She dwells on and romanticizes the past. 1990 Ashley also tends to talk negatively about herself, and she bites her fingernails as a nervous habit. They’re also quirky, creative, determined, and empathetic. She also tends to catastrophize her circumstances when she’s overwhelmed and stressed.
2014/2016/BAYVERSE ASH: face claim; olivia sui from smosh
This incarnation of Ashley is probably the more childish version of her compared to her counterparts. Even though she is slightly more childish, Ashley is very good at reading other people. She’s frank and she can be indecisive at times, and she’s very observant and intuitive. Bayverse Ashley is more rebellious and honestly more likely to get into regrettable situations. She’s also a little bit self-destructive, much like 2012 Ash, but the difference between them is that Bayverse Ashley doesn’t bother to hide it. She’s too tired to hide it and the thought of putting in that effort makes her even more unmotivated. Instead, she’s just stubborn about getting help. She also overeats when she’s stressed out and procrastinates, becoming unmotivated and nihilistic in thinking. 2014 Ashley also grows impulsive and less thoughtful in her spending habits, and she finds herself oversleeping when she’s overwhelmed by everything around her.
1987 ASH: face claim; aja leith from jem and the holograms
This Ashley is fun-loving and more lively than her other incarnations. She still has her quiet moments, but she’s more talkative. Ashley in the 1987 dimension is sassy and witty, and she’s better with and more approachable to people. She’s more optimistic than the other Ashleys, but that leads to 1987 Ashley being blinded by her optimism. This leads to extreme denial, which worsens her negative feelings, and she ignores her emotions and what her body is trying to tell her. Basically, her main unhealthy coping skill that sets her apart from the other versions of Ashley is 1987 Ash suffers from toxic positivity.
2007 ASH: face claim; serah farron from final fantasy
2007 Ashley is a little kinder than her other counterparts. She’s less stubborn and reckless. This version of Ashley, when faced with tragedy, tends to undereat and restrict her food intake. Much like 1990 Ashley and 2012 Ashley, she tends to poke fun at her own trauma. She also minimizes her dilemmas, saying that it’s not a big deal and that she’ll be okay. She also refuses others’ aid because she doesn’t want to feel like she’s troubling them with her problems. 2007 Ashley is loyal, and can be to a fault, and she can easily make connections to events and information. She has a more optimistic outlook, very much like 1987 Ashley. She speaks more formally than her other iterations, but she still has her moments of sassiness and wittiness. She also tends to be more nervous and anxious around other people, seeming tense at times. 2007 Ashley is more prone to self-sabotage and insomnia.
COMIC ASH: face claim; rogue from x-men
Ashley from the comics is more abrasive and brash, and she’s not as level-headed and calm as most of her other counterparts. She’s also the most vulgar and impulsive of her incarnations. She’s frank, decisive, and fiercely independent. When it comes to handling trauma, she ends up showing a side of her that’s more volatile and hostile. Her irritation presents itself in a transparent way, and she’s way less self-aware that she’s struggling compared to her other counterparts. Like Bayverse Ash, Comic Ash is more impulsive in her spending habits. They are very well-informed and well-read, and they are one of the more outspoken counterparts of Ashley Singh.
