And I still don't understand why here in Brazil the LGBT movement was pulled up most from trans women, sex workers, who always were marginalized and scorned by gays and lesbians (we have a LOT of radfem and TERFs inside lesbians groups and they make our lives a living hell).
To know the origins of our LGBT community here in Brazil only made me have more questions and despise the "LG" first. If wasn't the blood, sweat and tears of our trans women activists in the 60/70s, we would be ruined as a group.
My view is to always reference to the community as TLGB, but for brazilian legislation means it's LGBT still.
Let's think about it.

The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.
In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ and was an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.
The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.
The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities.
Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.
In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedman, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.
In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.
Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.
GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.
Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.
In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.

2. i think if you really cant remember the baseline "lgbt" then your baby gay is showing. say it a few more times itll stick***
***i am obviously meaning when speaking broadly. ofc w dyslexia / what-have-you things can Happen, but we dont make that argument with like, any other commonly used acronym, so. here we are

I’m not gonna say “queer isn’t a slur” anymore, I’m switching to “queer is as much of a slur as gay is”.
Cause of course queer has been used as an insult— and worse. Of course it has. So has gay. So has homosexual. So has literally every word we use to describe ourselves, whether or not we invented or reclaimed it. And they’ll continue to be used as insults, and worse, by people who find our existence insulting. But guess what?
We’re still here. We’re still queer.
Get used to it.

The absolutely most boring and annoying thing is when queer people say "this is queer (culture)" and straight white cis people feel the need to chime in and make it about themselves under the shallow farce of equality and togetherness and allying

i wish i could personally thank the several people who defended and protected me at north park blocks, where the trans pride parade was lining up to march, when i grabbed the cord of a megaphone that was being used by radical christan homophobes who were telling all of us to die, convert or burn in hell. i couldn't stand to let them continue to harass my local tlgb+ peoples, and those who rushed in when i was grabbed could not stand to see them harass me, and even if we came home tonight with bruises and scrapes from the altercation, i'm thankful for their strength, of body, of mind, of heart, to have done the right thing, not by defending me, but having defended our entire movement, history and community. we will not be spoken over. we will not be silenced. we will defend our spaces, our events, our communities, our people, ourselves. tl;dr if you are spewing ugly, hateful, bigoted rhetoric in my face, at my people, in my city, then Free Speech™ might prevent the cops from taking away your megaphone, but that doesn't mean it's gonna prevent me from blowing fart noises while i break your hate speech shooter. 💋🌈💖

“Named after the historic Compton's Cafeteria riots in 1966 (the first known incident of collective LGBT resistance to police harassment in U.S. history), The Compton's TLGB District will encompass six blocks in the southeastern Tenderloin and will cross over Market Street to include two blocks of 6th Street. The intersection of Compton's Cafeteria Way and Vikki Mar Lane (previously portions of Turk and Taylor Streets) will be a hub of services and economic opportunities for trans and gender-nonconforming communities, as well as a place to honor the community's history.
"The lower Tenderloin is one of the most important neighborhood in America for transgender history, culture, and civil rights," said Supervisor Jane Kim, who represents the Tenderloin. "By creating the Compton's TLGB District we are honoring this vibrant community built by transgender people, and are sending a message to the world that trans people are welcome here."
"San Francisco needs to do everything it can to stand our ground and be a place of sanctuary, for transgender people, and specifically trans women of color. Hopefully the Compton's TLGB District will be the start of a national movement to protect these communities and their history."

took the daemon quiz for Salem and got this! Which is funny because I’d been having that animal form as a vibe
Mustelid
Your daemon would take the form of a mustelid! Those who have weasel daemons are sneaky and inquisitive people who don't take no for an answer when there's something they want. They aren't afraid of breaking rules to get to where they want and are naturally subtle and cheeky individuals.

In my opinion it should be ‘TLGB’. Not just because Trans individuals made the first stand during the stonewall riots and parades thereafter, but also so we can say “Telegub”
