headcanons from The Kane Chronicles because I miss them Rick please I need a new book

• Carter is definitely Horus' favorite of all time. Not only is he his host, but Carter is also extremely intelligent and capable in his role as pharaoh, as well as a person with a good heart, and Horus is so proud of him (he will never admite it tho)

• Bast always brings small meals to the Kanes during missions. Different from other heroes who go through various basic difficulties saving the world, Sadie and Carter always have a goddess who loves them very much, bringing them food or finding a nearby hotel to rest.

• Bes will definitely randomly show up at Nomo and make dinner. Nobody questions. He's good at that

• Sadie creates a lot of playlists, she has at least one for everyone she loves. Carter has two, but she keeps one private. Anubis and Walt's keeps changing because she can't decide on their vibe, and Bastet's is updated every day. She used to have a romantic playlist about Anubis, now they listen it like a old joke

• Isis is attached to her children, so whenever possible she is checking on Anubis and Horus as if they were still little children. Without realizing it, she started checking up on Carter and Sadie frequently as well.

• Felix likes to do Jaz's hair. He's terrible at it but she lets him anyway and always shows off his hairstyles

• Cleo is a source of pride for Thoth. He talks about her at pantheon meetings and always expresses excitement over the little discoveries she makes. (Thoth is considered a very attentive god to mortals, I can't imagine him ignoring a follower)

• Anubis and Walt have a very strong bond, and even if the curse didn't link them they would hardly be separated. Walt showed him a lot of the mortal world, Anubis gave him entire lessons on the historical periods that Walt likes. They play videogames e go to dinner out casually. Anubis met Walt's mother once, she's scary.

• Bastet and Anubis are the type of duo that fight over everything non-stop, but they will be together through anything. She is the only one who speaks ill of him, he is the only one who push out all her bottons. It's not romantic or anything, it's just their dynamic at that point. She will totally lay on top of him in their animal forms out of pure disrespect. And yet, they are each other's emergency contact and are always there for each other.

• Osiris is the type of father who sends strange good morning messages with videos of flowers, always has a joke on the tip of his tongue and wears themed coats at family parties. Sadie adores him

• Seth affectionately called Anubis his son ONCE and the entire pantheon was in shock for years. Anubis was not there and he still don't believe it happened. Nephthys cried

• Alyssa adores Sadie, and began to view her with great admiration. She once tried to dye her hair the shade of pink she always wanted, but it didn't turn out very well.. Sadie helped her with that and they have had matching highlights in their hair ever since.

• Julian can AND WILL turn the mansion inside out. He's forbidden from being in charge but somehow always ends up taking charge of things when Carter and Sadie go out. Apparently things are even worse if he's not in charge.

• Anubis is like a gothic older brother and guide for the younger ones. They go to him for advice on everything from the simplest to the most personal. As a guiding and protective god, as well as a comforter of mourners, he always listens and does the impossible to help but then act like it's no big deal and disappear for a week

• keeping in this point, he has a habit of disappearing during conversations. If Anubis gets tired of the conversation, or the person, he simply turns his back and leaves. He has done this many times with Sadie and sometimes she almost hits him with a hairbrush. He has been irritating Shu with this habit for millennia.

Back when I was reading the Kane Chronicles at school and also reading comics at home, I kept wondering why we don't see egyptian gods in comics the same way we see Greek or Norse gods. Because superhero comics have Thor, Hercules, Loki, Ares and more. But we never really see any egyptian gods. We see egyptian mythology sometimes, due to characters like Doctor Fate and Black Adam and Moon Knight. But we never really see the egyptian gods.

I was starting to think there'd be no egyptian gods or goddesses represented, but I accidentally found one! Filmation did a Captain Marvel/Shazam tv show, and they produced a second superhero show to accompany it. A superhero show about the goddess Isis. This show got it's own comic (albeit a comic only 8 issues in length), and I think it's one of the only superhero comics to feature an egyptian god or goddess as the star.

You know, I have to tell all of you something. It's really important, so please read this before any other post that's caught your eye.

I'm glad that there's a large majority of people who accept that Rick kind of fucked up Greek Mythology in Percy Jackson..........

But does anyone feel the same about The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase?

The way Rick portrayed Anubis as a hot white teenage emo boy who was SIXTEEN years old when in Egyptian Mythology he was a GROWN ADULT WITH A WIFE AND A DAUGHTER really nags at me.

And, what's more, Anubis 16 while Sadie is at first twelve and then thirteen.

Walt's age is debatable because he's said to be fourteen and then sixteen. It's generally accepted that he's sixteen, but some people also think he's fourteen, so ok, your choice.

BUT ANUBIS IS SIXTEEN AND HE'S DATING A 12-13 YEAR OLD?

If Anubis DID indeed have the maturity level of a sixteen year old (weird choice, Rick) then he wouldn't even LOOK at Sadie romantically, because sixteen year olds don't do that!

It's disgusting, really, to do something like this. And don't start on Anubis not knowing the cultural practices of today. They're not real. Rick Riordan wrote this knowing how disgusting it was. It's unacceptable.

I honestly don't get why Anubis had to be a 16 year old. TKC could have been rewritten with no change if Anubis wasn't a 16 year old and was a proper god. No Saltnubis, which is an added bonus. Polyamory should be for adults, not children or teenager minors.

Also, Anubis did have a wife and daughter-Anput and Kebechet respectively. And they never even get mentioned.

Ok, even if Rick didn't mention them, that Saltnubis plot was horrible.

Also, Isis possessing a British white woman is a little odd when she's Egyptian. Why don't they possess Egyptian people instead. Is it because the main religion is Islam? Then why didn't they just possess Egyptian immigrants? Oh well. not sure about this one.

I mean, I'm not Egyptian or a Kemetic Pagan, but I just wanted to point this out. Sorry if anything I said is rude-tell me and I'll change.

But TKC had something that Magnus Chase did not. It actually respected its gods and reminded the readers that while they took on human forms and possessed humans, they were in fact, still gods. We could tell that they were gods and they inspired a certain amount of awe when they were around.

The gods in MCGA.......just don't have this spark.

I mean, yes, they WERE funny and human at times, but there's a reason that they were worshipped and respected as gods.

And it's frustrating because they should have had that spark. Yes, we see Odin's cunning by disguising himself as a troll, but Heimdall is also made out to be a complete idiot who just takes selfies and neglects his duties of guarding the Bifrost Bridge which is very important.

And Loki.........actually, Loki was kind of evil in the myths, so this one is ok. I'm still a little disappointed at how he never cared for Alex or Sam, though.

I know I'm treading sensitive waters with this one, but there is something nagging at me about how they're portrayed.

her mom and step-dad died when she was nine

it was a car accident in the middle of an earthquake… yeah could’ve been poseidon who knows

she went to live with her grandmother who had moved to england a few years prior

a satyr found her when she was 15

reminder that in this au monsters aren’t that common outside the us. the only reason a lot of them were around Rome and Greece was because that was their home turf, the original places

and yet monsters slowly started showing up again in the united kingdom for some reason

the last child of the big three in england was winston churchill

nina’s invited to attend a special boarding school for people like her

her godly parent is still unknown atm but it’s okay, unlike their US counterparts they dont separate the students via godly parent during school time, that’s just a summer thing.

the houses are based on Egyptian gods because of some past magicians that wanted to make a sanctuary for any and all young heroes regardless of their patronage. this includes Egypt, Greek and Roman demigods, Norse ones too. all are welcomed. (again, i havent read TKC, im aware Carter and Sadie are magicians but idk if other characters are demigods via Egyptian gods)

the Egyptian vibe has stuck around because of the founding magicians who created it.

the houses the students live in arent separated by godly parent but rather by where they hail from.

so in the cause of Anubis House, it’s Greek demigods. Isis House also hosts Greeks.

Nina is put in Anubis because despite not knowing who her godly parent is, when tested she reads Ancient Greek like a pro

at the same time as her being put in this house, the sketchy adults who maintain the sanctuary and maintain the institution have removed Joy Mercer, a daughter of Nemesis for unknown reasons

yes i already have the twist planned out

meanwhile, Joy’s best friend Patricia Williamson, daughter of Ares is 100% sure this newcomer, an American of all things, has something to do with Joy’s disappearance and she won’t rest till she finds out.

in the mean time, Nina runs into an old lady, she talks about a great treasure hidden in the house and gifts her something that will be invaluable

a locket in the shape of the Eye of Horus, a symbol of protection, a warding against evil, but tells her not to open it unless she’s in danger

when a monster invades the school for the first time in decades, Nina discovers it’s more than just a necklace.

when she opens it for the time, it reveals:

Alternative AU, My AU Egyptians

Hello, good morning, I'm Seven and English is not my first language, so I'm sorry if I have grammatical mistakes, here is the third list of the changes in my AU with but with the Egyptians, continuing with the same explanation, Carter and Sadie in the original are Egyptian magicians and Horus eh Isis are Egyptian gods well in my AU it's the other way around, Carter and Sadie are Egyptian gods and Horus eh Isis are Egyptian magicians and so with everyone, I clarify that this mythology is still under construction so things may be changing or adding things over time but if you have ideas I can listen

Gods:

Carter: he takes the role of Horus as pharaoh of the gods in the duat

Sadie: she takes the role of Isis, in the original Isis is the mother of Horus but here Sadie is still Carter's sister

Walt: he takes the role of Anubis as god of funerals

Zia: Zia's role was one of the most complicated for me, here I didn't know who to change her with with Ra was not an option so I was between Nephthys oh Hathor, but I decided to change her with Hathor because in the original and in mythology Horus and Hathor are a couple just like Carter and Zia

Now let's go with those who will be the magicians, they will have the surnames of the originals although there are not many

Horus Kane: He takes the role of Carter but not his personality obviously, he is the son of Julius Kane and in this AU he is the eye of Carter, he also has 2 friends, one Greek and the other Einherjar

Isis Kane: She takes the role of Sadie but not her personality obviously, between her and Horus, Isis is the older sister in this case, she is the one who stayed with the Faust grandparents and felt a bit of resentment towards her father who in this case is still Julius Kane

Anubis Stone: he takes the role of Walt, and here I find it difficult because I don't know how to make Sadie (who is a goddess in this AU), Walt and Anubis a couple

Amos kane: Amos is still the same obvious only that I included him to say that here he is the uncle of Horus eh Isis

Bast: she's here just to say that instead of being with Sadie she's with Isis and that's it

Hathor Rashid: she takes the role of Zia, since as I explained before, Horus and Hathor are a couple just like Zia and Carter, but obviously she is going to have Zia's story and the same thing that happened the first time she met will happen. they met

Consider: she's *technically* already following apollo, seeing as she's his priestess. Her main innovation is trying to do egyptian magic via the path of a greek god. Somehow, this works (the tkc/pjo crossovers imply that this isn't completely infeasible).

Everyone at Brooklyn house is incredibly confused by this. One minute her spells make it seem like she's following the path of Horus, the next the path of Isis, or Sekhmet, or any of a dozen different minor deities.

She offhandedlu mentions knowing Percy and Annabeth at some point and suddenly everything makes sense (at least to Sadie and Carter. Everyone else is still just as confused as before).

dare mansion and brooklyn house neighbours

i keep thinking about rachel+21st nome friendship bc they're canonical neighbours

the contrast of the dare mansion being big and minimalist and mostly quiet, still, and the brooklyn house being full of noise, people and all sorts of stuff laying around. idk man i just think she'd come over there a lot, probably through like a roof passage from her room or something, just to hang out

i really think her and sadie would hit it off, of course, but i also think rachel to be that kind of person who can just have a conversation with anyone. i think she'd spend many a evening just talking to amos, because that's one of the types of people she gravitates to (alá chiron and mr d hehe they're besties). i think amos would definitely appreciate her and adopt her as one of his kids

rachel just coming over for dinner all the time and the kids all eventually just getting used to her as a part of the nome, some of them even surprised when learning she doesn't live there

i do think eventually amos or carter/walt/jaz/whoever would talk with rachel about whether she wants to try following a path, and i do think she'd like it, because she's rachel and loves trying new things, but also because among her demigod friends, she does sometimes feel left out due to not being half-god.

any ideas as to who rachel would follow?

hello first of all i love you. i talked abt it a little here and here and here but i will always ramble abt this au more bc i love it so much

the dynamic btween sadie and the other spiderpeople in this au is something that can be so personal........

like i think sadie lacks a solid parental figure in a way that miles didn’t and so the like mother/daughter dynamic between her and bast is so much more open and two-sided than it was between peter b and miles. 

”why do you have a cat aesthetic. you’re spiderman?” “uh because cats are awesome now shut up kitten”

bast is basically learning not to be so self-sacrificing. i think in her universe she just didn’t really have regard for her own life, and was overly reckless in ways she didn’t have to be and was kind of jaded because of that

and by being with sadie and having someone to protect and being part of a team and seeing how sadie’s universe is responding to their spider-man dying, she can go back to her universe realizing that other people care if she dies, and just more willing to ask for help and take care of herself

isis is just. lksdafj. so she’s spidernoir and idk it’s just the aesthetic of her glowing eyes + wind that shouldn’t be there and strange speech patterns and ancient egyptian and she just seems Wrong i think it fits

but like she’s still trying mom sadie, but in a Totally different way than bast is. you know?

actually you know that scene at aunt may’s where they’re all beating up miles to see if he can get back up? big isis energy in this au like she’s nurturing and motherly but in her own blunt and distant way <3

a lot of the details from gwen stacy stay the same for him. he’s a drummer in a band. he did ballet.

walt’s self-isolation bc he’s terrified of endangering everyone he cares about 🤝 sadie’s self-isolation bc she’s terrified of everyone she cares about leaving her

also the way that miles like lies to gwen abt the goober and tries to act cool while obviously and loudly being a complete dork? big sadie flirting with walt energy

just. sadie’s so fun and even though she’s a really sad kid with a lot of baggage, she brings a lightness that is just so refreshing and especially for the past that this walt would have after feeling alone as spider-man for so long and it’s exactly what he needs and i love them so much

jaz as peni parker is just so fun!! the robot is such a fun extension of statuary magic

also jaz is the only one w/o powers but she’s a cheerleader which means she’s super fit and can do all the acrobatics + she and sadie are super competitive about comparing their #skills

jaz walt and sadie is just a trio that can be so personal.....joking around and making fun of bast and isis and playing around with their powers......

idk what’s gonna happen in the future of the spiderverse but i would like to see them come back so sadie can have this family and introduce them to carter and have regular dinners and how sadie and walt roast him to hell for not having super powers (jaz + he are v good friends bc of this.)
