Neuralink exposé.txt
They drilled two burr holes into [Animal 21′s] skull, inserted electrodes attached to implants, and closed the holes with “cranial sealant.” The Neuralink surgeon used Bioglue, a surgical adhesive, which was not approved for use in this surgery and is known to be toxic to nerve tissue. [Neuralink] has acknowledged it killed six monkeys, on the advice of UC Davis veterinary staff, because of health problems caused by experiments. It called the issue with the glue a “complication” from the use of an “FDA-approved product.” Despite this tragic outcome, 11 months later, the Neuralink surgeon [again] used Bioglue during an experimental procedure. Again, the adhesive leaked onto the animal’s brain. Neither incident was reported by UC Davis to the U.S. Department of Agriculture as required by the federal Animal Welfare Act, and the agency refused to cite the university and Neuralink for a violation even after the Physicians Committee filed a complaint in February 2022.

Ok, I'll tackle a few questions, and see if I can tackle more tomorrow.
Good place for buying clothes and wigs: you can check the various dealers out there like Alice Collection, Legend Doll, or New Clover singing (Google should bring you right to these sites if you search for them). Etsy used to be great and there are still a lot of artists selling over there, but I would check the sellers to see if they maybe have an external page or Instagram listed, since prices might be lower there. I know a lot of people buy clothes and wigs from TaoBao, but you'll need a proxy afaik to buy from there. AliExpress is also great for some cheaper clothes, but I would advice to check the stores before buying. If they sell dolls, it's probably a fake and I try not to support these people.
There are a lot of dolls that don't have sculpted muscles! Doll family H comes to mind from my own collection, Charmdoll, too. I think my Asleep Eidolon boy doesn't have any either 🤔 i need to check the others, but generally I'd say, go and check the dealers, there you can see many different companies. LegendDoll let's you sort by body, too!
As for faceups, there are lot of good tutorials/ videos on YouTube, you can look for Faceup or Custom Doll, the materials are pretty much the same. You'll need a sealant (many use Mr Super Clear, but there are alternatives as well, though except for airbrush ones I haven't really tried a lot of these), something to blush (could be air brush and paint, most newbies prefer soft pastels to brush on), paint (i started with water colour pencils, by now I use gouache paints as they're easy to clean up before dealing). For scars, you can paint them on, or if you want something more 3D, you can use pva glue for example, or you can use tissue paper + glue for more textured ones, depending on the look.
You can commission an artist of course, and a lot of them also offer work on bodies, like tattoos, body blush, and scars.
Storage. I keep my dolls in a separate room from my cats and in a cabinet (it's an IKEA Billy shelf with glass doors and UV protection foil on the glass).
As for the question of resin vs vinyl. Both will stain, but vinyl stains A LOT easier, and stain removal from resin is pretty easy (give it a good scrub with a magic eraser sponge and it will be as good as new), while it's a damn process on vinyl, needing chemicals to remove it, and even then you might still have remaining stains. Both will also yellow, though in my experience, Resin yellows faster. You can prevent it to a degree by keeping the dolls out of direct sunlight, though they will yellow over time by aging.
But resin and vinyl dolls are very different. Resin is heavier, vinyl dolls are lighter. Vinyl often (! Not always!) Is cheaper. Vinyl dolls more often have anime features, while resin dolls often have more realistic looks. Again, there are exceptions to this. Resin dolls are usually strung with an elastic while vinyl dolls have a skeleton. Vinyl dolls usually are easier to pose because of this.
As for yellowing and getting a new doll. Unless you put your doll in the bright sun, the yellowing shouldn't be that bad. Usually, the colour just shifts from rosy to more cream coloured. I have many dolls that are yellowed (usually due to them being really old, but some yellowed because I like to keep my dolls out of the dark and take them out in the sun for photos) and it's really not that bad.
Be careful with 1/6, because it can mean 2 different things. Correct 1/6 scale is not compatible with 1/4, it is Barbie scale, so very different proportions. But in the bjd community, the child dolls are often referred to as 1/6 when in reality, they're also 1/4 scale, but... well, children. They also sometimes are referred to as YoSD. I'm not quite sure what your question is here, because you pretty much answered it yourself. "1/6" or "YoSD" size is what you want to look for if you want a toddler for your dolls.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
My various BJD questions in a single post
I have multiple Questions about BJD’s and I’ve decided to make a single post to ask them all so it’s organized and not a massive mess
You can answer my questions in the replies or reblogs, and feel obligated to answer them all if you don’t have an answer eheh~!
What is a good place for buying 1/6, 1/4, and 1/3 sized clothes? (For girl dolls and boy dolls)
A good place to get fantasy-colored wigs for dolls? (1/6, 1/3, and 1/3 sized dolls)
Also, are there any boy BJD’s that don’t have sculpted on muscle? Also for size about 1/4 or taller if possible.
Tips/tools to use for face-ups? Or is it better to “commission” the face-up from an artist? But then how would I get the couple scars I’d need for the character I wanna make that are on his body… would that be in the face-up category? How would I go about making/commissioning the fac-up since I’d need body scars I don’t know how to make myself?
What’s a good way to store the BJD’s so they don’t get ruined or broken? Especially if you have 3 playful cats.
And finally, which is better in the long run, a vinyl doll or a resin doll? Considering things like staining and yellowing I’m scared to get a doll because I don’t want it to be ruined. If it yellows in let’s say a few years where I could easily order a new dollie then it’ll be okay. One of my dolls is gonna be in strictly darker colors and I do night want them to stain.
Also, along with the previous question. For resin dolls, what would be a good doll/size to get a toddler-like body? I have a character I wanna make but he’s a toddler so I need the toddler-y body proportions. I’d like him to be 1/6 scale so his two older sisters can be taller than him.
Any help is greatly appreciated! I can’t wait to get my first BJD and I wanna know everything for my first BJD, and future BJD’s I get. I also seen there are chairs and stuff for BJD’s and I’d love to get some to use with my dolls eheh~

Would you be willing to share how you made this? I'm obsessed
(if not, that's okay)
Tumblr media
Yeah sure :) it just dawned upon me I never explained how I made them.
First I got some Cardstock paper from wallmart, you can find it anywhere, you wanna print realistic moth images on cardstock because it's more durable.
After printing I cut it out and sealed the top half with Mod podge Medium formula, you can use any sealant for this step really, just make sure not to add too much as you could make the paper too damp and have it tear.
Next I had some colorful tissue paper for the underside since I bend the wings to give it dimension, I use craft glue for the underside and just apply the paper then trim it.
I used super glue to attach a hair clip to the bottom side of the moth, be sure to use a glue that's durable and make sure it's dry before putting it in your hair.
Lastly because this was a luna moth I just super glued a pom pom to the top, I also know about the yarn hair method to make fur.
And that's it really :) you also wanna be really careful not to get these wet as they are paper. I just wear them when I spontaneously decide I wanna look nice.

With Advent of New Generation Tissue Sealants, Wound Healing is becoming less Painful and Quicker than Ever
For medical practitioners and surgeons, minimizing the bleeding during the surgery has always been a monumental task. Various tools and methods have been used to reduce the bleeding without affecting the surgery as well as the patient’s body. New generation tissue sealants fall in the same category that is used to prevent hemorrhage or bleeding. The human body has a natural response to bleeding known as hemostasis, which is the formation of the blood clot, at the site of injury. It is a complex interaction between plasma proteins, platelets, and coagulation & fibrinolytic pathways. Researchers have been focused on innovating new generation tissue sealants that can help surgeons in surgical procedures. Fibrin glue is one such product, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1998. It is typically used for reinforcement of splenic trauma, colonic anastomoses, and cardiothoracic surgery. Fibrin glue copies the final step of the coagulation cascade whereas this process takes place in the presence of calcium ions. As a matter of fact, fibrin glue is one of the earliest hemostasis & tissue sealing agents in the healthcare sector. There has also been a synthesis of injectable hydrogels that achieve hemostasis in case of internal injuries and bleeding. These hydrogels promoted rapid healing and boosted the cascading process of blood clotting. Tissue sealing agents such as Epogen and Hemostat help in preserving the elasticity of the tissue and helping to retain its structure. These agents also help in increasing the production of elastin, collagen, and reducing collagen degeneration by increasing the levels of the polymer. Many countries are focused on developing new hemostasis & tissue sealing agents. For instance, a new alkaline hydrogel has been developed in Japan that can be applied to wounds for faster healing.

TISSUE GLUE AND BIO-ADHESIVE SEALANTS MARKET ANALYSIS
Tissue glue is used as an alternative method for wound closure that is painless, fast, and does not require a follow-up visit for removal. Tissue glue is made from cyanoacrylate compounds. Tissue glue finds application in superficial lacerations, low wound tension, and after placement of deep sutures to close skin.
Bio-adhesive sealants are developed from proteins, collagen, thrombin, fibrin, gelatin, and polysaccharides such as chitosan are used for acute thoracic aortic dissection repair, controlling intraoperative bleeding in vascular procedures, and for soft tissue sealing.
The global tissue glue and bio-adhesive sealants market is estimated to account for US$ 1,509.6 Mn in terms of value in 2019 is expected to reach US$ 2,876.9 Mn by the end of 2027.
Global Tissue Glue and Bio-adhesive Sealants Market: Drivers
Increasing prevalence of bone-related disorders is expected to propel growth of the global tissue glue and bio-adhesive sealants market over the forecast period. For instance, according to the paper ‘New Osteoporotic/Vertebral Compression Fractures’, published in 2018 by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the U.S. records 700,000 cases of vertebral compression fractures, annually.
Increasing number of arthroplasty procedures is also expected to aid in growth of the market. For instance, in 2018, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) recorded over 1 million patients and over 1.4 million hip and knee arthroplasty procedures.

there was a bit of a despiriting side adventure in here but the snail lamp is finally finished! here's our approximate timeline:
March 20 - begin paper mache for snail
March 21 - April 3 - interminable repetitions of painting and sanding the Snorb. I put about 10 layers of paint on this snail trying to get it perfectly smooth. I didn't get the paper mache nearly smooth enough and tried to fill in the low spots with paint (bad plan!)
April 2 - Drilled a hole in the side of the Snorb for wiring access. Very scary, I should *definitely* have done that earlier.
April 4 - I applied a layer of evil glaze (DecoArt's Triple Thick) to the Snorb. It reacts poorly to the paint, leading it to bubble up and crackle. The Snorb looks like it contracted a horrible disease. In a panic, I try to peel off the glaze before it fully dries and end up peeling off most of the paper mache with it.
Tumblr media
April 5-19 - Redoing the paper mache. This time I do a lot more paper mache layers to try and avoid doing the landlord special when I paint the snail (for fear that the many, many layers of paint might have been the problem). This time i give up on sanding the snail smooth, because, as it turns out snails AREN'T SMOOTH. i didn't bother to google an actual snail reference photo until April 19.
Tumblr media
April 20-May 8 - Painting the snail, take 2. Long pause here because I wanted to make sure it was fully dry.
May 9 - Added a layer of spray sealant on top to hopefully prevent a reaction with the evil glaze. Waited another week for that to be 100% totally dry.
May 14 - Glazed the snail with evil glaze again. Managed to escape with my life but I am never touching that stuff again. It did make the paint crackle in spots but much less dramatically than the first time.
Tumblr media
Last weekend - wired the actual light socket, used epoxy to glue it to the base & finished the snorb! photos to come.
(in parallel: the lampshade)
first i tried buying a glass globe shade. this would have worked perfectly......if I'd gotten the shade *first* and sized my snail accordingly. it was too big to fit on the snail.
next I tried using a balloon as a paper mache mold. turns out balloons are NOT SPHERES. there are spherical balloons but they aren't spherical unless you fully inflate them (and they're generally big, like 12 inches+). this was a total flop.
next i tried using the glass shade as a mold to make a paper mache shade. I could only do half at a time so then I had to assemble the two halves...which I did terribly, leading to a lumpy rotten orange shaped shade.
then I went hunting for an actual inflatable sphere. A children's toy ball. this turned out to be shockingly hard to find. i went to so many stores. finally, after asking every person i knew, i got a lead that led me to Walgreens and a 6 inch paw patrol ball. I did about 4 layers of paper mache with white tissue paper, then extracted the ball (RIP paw patrol ball)
right when I went to fit the shade onto the lamp I realized I needed a collar to keep it from rolling off the snail's back, so I made one with a little strip of japanese tissue.
---
In summary we will NOT be asking questions about whether I saved money by making the snail lamp DIY.
Quest for the SNAILMP
So i haven't been posting much lately. An optimistic person might hope i was writing (regretfully not, my head is 100% empty still. i'm trying to pspsps the stories back by reading a lot but it hasn't worked yet). A more realistic guess is i'd been distracted by dnd or my leverage rewatch or debating whether to buy an actual braille book now that i can pretty reliably read my homemade braille flashcards. All of those are true, but i've also been working on the Quest of the SNAILMP
FLASHBACK. it's 2019. a friend posts a picture of the snail lamp in the group chat to apologize for talking about needles (squick i hate that)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I crave to temptation and find it on the Urban Outfitters website. I then waffle over this snail lamp for several months. It's kinda pricey for a battery powered lamp. They stop selling it. I mourn for the snail lamp.
For the next three years i mourn the snail lamp i could have had & bring it up in conversation unreasonably often. Every few months I search the internet for snail lamps, specifically craving a snail orb lamp. nothing comes close to the original SNAILMP.
Winter, 2022 I go looking to snailmps and find instead a ceramic snail planter. He's even cuter than the original snailmp! I think to myself, "oh, if I bought that and put one of those outdoor orb lights where the bowl goes it'd be pefect! diy snailmp!"
Tumblr media
I waffle for several weeks. I order the snail (minus lamp).
Two days later they refund my order. someone had bought the last snail. They'd searched the warehouse and there were no snails left.
I mourned my snail lamp again.
But now I was already thinking about DIY snail lamps & I'd subsequently joined a bookbinding server that enables all craft project, no matter how silly. The obvious quest was proposed: make a snail lamp from scratch.

Tangle Mods and Care Guide
I’m putting everything I know into one post I can then link to on the Links Page (where I’ve archived other useful posts) as a one-stop resource. And, yes, this post is over three thousand words long...
Releases
Tangles produced by Tangle Creations have slightly thicker connector pegs and pieces, are smoother, usually have tighter joins and smoother mould lines, and are much sturdier, in my experience. I prefer these over the Zuru Tangles, because while they initially looked and felt similar, the Zuru Tangles don’t hold up to wear as well as the Tangle Creations Tangles. Even when worn loose, these will still hold a coil, and I have few problems with loose pegs. I’ve only broken one Tangle Creations Tangle (two pieces sheared) and this was my very first, very-used Tangle.
Tangle Creations Tangles can usually be found at specialist toy shops, specialist stim toy and therapeutic item shops, and Amazon. They also have the largest range of specialist and therapeutic Tangles.
Zuru Tangles are licensed from Tangle Creations but produced by Zuru. They have slightly thinner pieces and connector pegs, are a bit creakier and plastic-feeling, and are more prone to loose pegs: I’ve already got some, after light use, with pegs that just keep popping out. They’re cheaper than Tangle Creations Tangles and easier to find. Zuru Tangle pieces will connect with Tangle Creations pieces, although the fit might be a little tight or loose.
Zuru Tangles can be found at department stores like K-Mart and Walmart.
Knock-off Tangles, produced by a variety of manufacturers, run the gamut from being recasts of Tangle pieces to new moulds. Some pieces will connect with Zuru or Tangle Creations Tangles, but many won’t. While some are usable immediately (like the HoTangles) most will be so stiff as to be unusable brand-new and will need lubrication. Many will not hold a coil, and they often feel looser and floppier than a well-used branded Tangle. They’re also often significantly lighter and creakier, and it is very common for pieces to not fit flush together but instead have gaps between them. Pegs easily pop out of the sockets. However, these can usually be purchased for $2 USD or less.
Knock-offs are usually found on eBay, Wish and Aliexpress, but also in some dollar shops. There’s a wide range of colour combinations, and even variants—like glow-in-the-dark—not available in either licensed range, but often little or no ability to choose colours.
Under the cut: information on bulking up pegs, taking a Tangle apart, cleaning, lubricating, storage and why I don’t recommend sealants as a fix to chipping Tangle Metallics.
Loose Pegs
If a Tangle starts popping apart—the peg falling free from the socket—the simplest way to improve this is to coat the peg in clear nail polish. This gives the peg a little more grip. PVA glue also works a little, but it will wear away more quickly. I suspect a brush-on varnish or sealant safe for use on plastics will also be suitable. Please note that this isn’t a permanent solution and the coating will need replacing periodically. It also works better on Tangle Creations Tangles, not Zurus or fakes: the fixed Zuru Tangles need refreshing much sooner than my Tangle Creations ones, even under similar use.
Make sure to let the peg dry completely before putting the Tangle back together, and to dry completely between coats if you need to do more than one. This technique won’t work as well if you don’t.
It has been suggested that you could also coat the pegs in a thin layer of thermoplastic, which I have not yet tried. I fear that it’d be difficult to get the layer thin enough to work, and it’s less simple to get the supplies and then use them without prior preparation. While it is imperfect, I find the clear nail polish preferable in terms of ease of use.
Pulling a Tangle Apart / Putting a Tangle Back Together
If you must pull a Tangle apart for lubrication, cleaning or custom Tangle making, and you’re worried about pegs shearing because they won’t easily come apart or clip back together, wrap the Tangle inside a wheat heat bag you’ve warmed in the microwave and leave it for a few minutes. The warmed-up ABS plastic is a little more pliable and less likely to snap.
If you’re trying to fit Zuru pieces to Tangle Creations pieces and they won’t quite fit, this might also help. Warm up both pieces in a heat bag for a few minutes and then try. Same goes for knock-off pieces that almost but don’t quite fit.
Please note that if you connect pieces with the aid of a heat bag because you cannot connect them without the bag, do not pull them apart again without heating the plastic first. Pulling hard on a peg and socket connected this tightly runs a real risk of the peg snapping.
If you don’t have a heat bag, put the Tangle inside a bowl or mug filled with kettle-boiled water and leave to sit for a few minutes. Use tongs or the end of a spoon to fish out the Tangle, and then leave it to sit for a minute or so until it’s cooled enough that you can handle it without burning yourself.
When pulling apart or putting a Tangle back together, try to use steady pulling/pressing motions without twisting or turning, as any sideways moment puts more stress on the pegs.
Please note that knock-off/fake Tangles are usually made from a poorer grade of ABS and are more prone to snapping when being pulled apart or put back together. This is a risk you must be prepared to take when doing so, as you can do everything right and still break your Tangle. I’ve had a fair few pegs break unexpectedly for this reason.
Cleaning / Oil Coating
Because a Tangle is made from ABS plastic, there’s a variety of ways you can clean it:
Wipe over with a baby wipe
Wipe over with a damp cloth
Wash with water and liquid hand soap
Wash with water and dishwashing liquid
Wash with a cloth dunked in water and soap or dishwashing liquid
Rinse under running water
Wipe over with a wet cloth and cream cleanser (for really sticky and dirty Tangles)
A Tangle Jr Fuzzy can be gently rinsed with water or soapy water and left to dry without too much fear of the flocking lifting, if it doesn’t rub or scrape against anything. (I boiled a Fuzzy once and it only lifted the flocking a little, but it didn’t clean it as much as I hoped.) Dust can be removed with a clean, dry, new toothbrush. Unfortunately, once the yellow sections go greyish, this is difficult to reverse. For this reason, I’d store the Fuzzies inside a pouch or container where they cannot be exposed to dust between uses, as this slows (significantly) the discoloration.
(It occurs to me that soaking the dirty Fuzzies in a bowl of laundry enzyme soaker might help, as I’ve used this to clean flocked toys. It doesn’t remove all stains, but it often does improve the toy’s colour.)
Skin cells, oils, dust and fluff will accumulate between the pieces, specially for Tangles used frequently or Tangles that have been lubricated. This forms a slightly tacky greyish dust bunny forming a circle around the peg or caught inside the socket. This can be removed by dipping the end of a cotton bud/q-tip in water, squeezing out the excess and wiping the bud inside the socket and around the peg.
If you want to remove the logo or any other painted design, tea tree oil on a cloth, tissue or cotton bud will do this easily, but don’t get the oil on your skin.  Likewise, if there’s anything sticky or gunky on a hard plastic Tangle (or stim toy) that dishwashing soap or clean cleanser won’t remove, or rub marks that won’t come off, or some ink marks, tea tree oil is your best bet for removing these. Rinse the Tangle immediately afterwards.
If using a water-soluble lubricant on your Tangle, any cleaning process may remove it, so be prepared to replace the lubricant if it stiffens up after cleaning.
Zuru Tangles have been arriving with a lubricant or sealant applied, leaving oily, greasy marks on the skin after use as the grease is applied to the whole Tangle. Many stimmers will need to remove this, and if you want to completely strip the Tangle, you’ll need to wash it in dishwashing liquid and water as baby wipes or liquid hand soap do not completely remove it. How well it is removed depends on your washing liquid and the amount you use.
Some Tangles may stiffen up after cleaning and need a replacement lubrication.
Loosening Tangles / Lubrication
If a Tangle is too stiff to easily or comfortably manipulate it, you can lubricate it, and this will be a necessity for many knock-offs.
I’ve used RP7, petroleum jelly and graphite powder; other stimmers have had success with coconut oil and bike chain lubricant. Lubricants designed for use on plastics, like a silicone-based lubricant, will be your safest bet, but I’ve had Tangles lubricated with RP7 for months now and there’s been no damage or deterioration to the Tangle. If you’ve got a lubricant for metal at hand and want to try it, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t (although I wouldn’t use it on Metallic Tangles, the Artist’s Collection Tangles and any Tangle coated in silicone, just to be safe).
None of my lubricated Tangles have needed a second application once lubricated.
I don’t recommend graphite powder because it stains: it works well, but it’ll only be unnoticeable on black Tangles. It also takes considerable effort to work the powder into the peg and socket. Oils and sprays are easier to spray or drip into the joins between pieces. You do this, twist the links to disperse the lubricant, and then move onto the next section, wiping the Tangle over with a damp cloth when done. Spray cans with the fine straw nozzle are easiest to use, but I’ve done this with a regular spray-head, too. If using an oil or spray lubricant, I also recommend using something that is light-coloured or clear to avoid staining on light-coloured Tangles.
My RP7-lubricated Tangles do pick up more black, greasy dust between pegs despite the RP7 being clear.
Additionally, oil and spray lubricants smell. Apply these outside, wearing a mask if necessary, wipe the Tangle clean when done, and leave the Tangle outside for a couple of days to air. I will say that the smell of the RP7 fades to nothing after a couple of weeks.
The most effective and accessible lubricant is clear petroleum jelly, available inexpensively from supermarkets and chemists. Simply open up one piece, dip the connector peg into the jelly until there’s a slight smear of jelly coating the peg, clip it back into place, and repeat for all the pegs. The jelly is scentless, meaning the Tangle is usable immediately, but the danger here is that, unlike the lubricant sprays, it’s very easy to over lubricate, creating a Tangle that won’t stay together. Unless the Tangle is very stiff, you want a smear of jelly verging on the microscopic. Keep in mind that it’s easier to add more jelly than it is to remove too much; you cannot be too safe here.
The downside to petroleum jelly is that you must pull the Tangle apart to apply it, but it has no scent, is perfectly clear, and better resists the greasy dust marks caused by the RP7. I’d use this alone for translucent Tangles, as there’s less risk of discolouration being seen through the Tangle.
You’ll need to dip a cotton bud into rubbing alcohol to completely remove petroleum jelly from the peg and socket if you over apply it. (Be cautious when doing this on Tangles with painted designs or flocking, though!) If you use acetone-containing nail polish remover, rinse the Tangle pieces immediately after application. Don’t use pure/100% acetone, as it can melt and eat away at plastics!
For further reading, please check out the lubricants tag.
Stiffening Tangles / Boiling
Fakes that are too loose to hold a coil, as is common for Tangle knock-offs, are not able to be fixed as far as I know. Most of them arrive like this, even before lubrication, being an unusual mix of too stiff to rotate while also flopping out of a coil. Lubrication tends to worsen this floppiness. Personally, I don’t consider this a huge problem, as it doesn’t stop me from using the Tangle, and I’d much prefer a too-loose Tangle over a too-stiff one, but if you prefer or need stiffer Tangles, I’d avoid knock-off Tangles altogether.
I’ve heard it said that boiling a Tangle worn to looseness will tighten it, but I’ve tried this on a much-used Tangle Creations Tangle and only noticed a marginal difference, to the point that I haven’t bothered trying it again. (The slight increase in stiffness soon wore off after using the Tangle.) This may also run the risk of causing the Tangle to squeak when worked successfully, but I haven’t been able to boil a Tangle tight enough to notice this effect.
If boiling in a pot, make sure the Tangle doesn’t brush against the sides, especially for knock-offs since there’s no way of knowing what the plastic contains. (I wouldn’t use a pot used for food for this job, especially with knock-off Tangles. Who knows what chemicals might leech into the water.) You don’t want to run the risk of anything melting or—more likely—warping. Leave the Tangle whole and clipped together while boiling it, as this way the plastic will loosen and tighten proportionally to the pegs. If you boil it broken up and the boiling causes shrinkage or warping of the socket, the peg may no longer fit inside it once cool.
Tangle Storage
Tossing a Tangle into a bag or pocket won’t be a problem for most not-totally-worn Tangle Creations Tangles, if you’re willing to risk the logo being worn away more quickly than usual. I’d only recommend it for a solid, sturdy Zuru or knock-off Tangle Jr, however. If your Tangle is prone to popping apart, I’d keep it inside its own zip pouch or box, just to keep it from being rubbed against wallet and keys or banged around inside your bag. I’ve noticed that this tossing of the Tangle into my bag hastens the wear of a Tangle already prone to falling apart.
Fuzzies and any of the silicone-covered Tangles (Therapy, Relax Therapy, Tangle Hairy, etc) will collect dust, fluff and lint. Always store them in their own plastic container or zip pouch.
To keep my Fuzzies free of dust, which turns them grey, I house them in this plastic compartment box which allows me to place one Tangle Jr in each compartment. These are usually available in department, craft, camping, fishing stores, and even many dollar shops, although it may be difficult to find a box this large with this many compartments, and some boxes may be designed such that two Tangles have to share a compartment.
Tangles with a metallic coating or printed designs (Artist’s Collection and knock-offs) should be stored so they cannot rub against other Tangles or toys. If they’re being moved around in a portable stim kit or backpack, where they might bang or rub against other toys or personal items, I’d wrap them inside a handkerchief or piece of soft cloth for protection, tucking the loose ends of the cloth inside the coil. Or place them alone inside a cloth drawstring bag or pouch!
Tangles can be attached to a keychain by opening the Tangle and clipping it closed around the split ring or cord, but only do this with a sturdy Tangle that isn’t prone to popping apart. I’ve lost a few Tangles by having these pop open when I was too busy or distracted to notice them fall away from my bag or lanyard. Because knock-offs and Zurus tend to do this easily, I’d only use a Tangle Creations Tangle this way, and even then only a stiffer, newish one.
Sheared Tangle Pieces
If a connector peg breaks, don’t throw out both pieces. You can throw out the piece from which the peg broke off, unless you want to try building up a peg from something like a two-part epoxy putty. (I think for most of us it’s easier just to get a new piece or even a whole new Tangle than to get the putty and shape it into something as tiny and precise as a Tangle piece connector peg, though.)
Save the piece that has the peg broken off in it, because if you own (or have access to a friend or family member with one) a fine drill bit, you can place the piece in a clamp and drill into the broken peg. Done so carefully, the broken peg will pop right out of the slot, meaning you’ve only lost one piece, not two of them. There’s a chance of breaking the piece if you drill too hard, fast or far, but you might be able to save it instead of just throwing it away.
Please note that the clamp may leave scratch marks on the piece. Mine did!
Sealants /Metallic Finishes
The Tangles with metallic finishes (Metallics, Textured Metallics, Sparkles) will scratch and chip, and there is no cheap, quick, simple, easy way to stop this. Thoughtful storage and careful use is the best, most affordable way to minimise this.
The least harmful “easy” way is to coat the Tangle with PVA glue. This won’t damage the Tangle, but it will peel off very easily, to the extent that I believe it a waste of your time and effort to apply the glue. Do not use clear nail polish, as this will wear and chip as well, but it may also turn yellow and I cannot confirm that it won’t peel away the metallic coating underneath. It’s just not designed for sealing large plastic surfaces like a Tangle.
Mod Podge will be the most affordable non-toxic brush-on sealant, but based on my reading, it is likely to crack if there’s any kind of movement, impact or flexing, so I don’t think it’s durable enough for Tangle usage.
I would recommend (not having tried it myself, however) a sealant designed for use on plastics or commonly used for plastics like Mister Super Clear, Warhammer’s Munitorum Varnish, Testor’s Dullcote or Krylon. However, these are expensive to buy, and the spray versions must be used with appropriate respiratory protection, adding to the expense. For this reason, I don’t recommend sealants as a solution, as getting the equipment may far exceed the cost of the Tangle.
If you seal anyway, pull apart the Tangle and seal each piece separately, so the sealant doesn’t crack when you rotate the Tangle. I’d wedge each peg into a block of foam or hold it in a clamp via the peg and then spray or apply a brush-on sealant with a makeup sponge (to avoid the streaking left by a brush). Let pieces dry completely between coats. Depending on your skill, the Tangle may look obviously coated afterwards, and I do not know how these sealants might dull or change the metallic finish.
If you wish to customise a Tangle with painted designs, purchase paints designed for use on plastics, not regular acrylics. I’d look at the Warhammer range as a starting point, because you can get small pots in a large variety of colours. Seal the Tangle afterwards (spray sealants will work best for this) to ensure the paint doesn’t rub off under use.
To lessen the chance of chipping and peeling, spray the Tangle with a coat of sealant before painting on it: this will give the Tangle “tooth” on which the paint can better grip.

Fibrin Glue Usage Increasing in Surgical Procedures
Fibrin glue, also known as fibrin tissue adhesive or fibrin sealant, comprises fibrinogen (lyophilized pool human concentrate), thrombin (bovine, reconstituted with calcium chloride), and sometimes antifibrinolytic agents and factor XIII. It is primarily used for sealing tissues, healing of wounds, coagulating blood, and stopping hemorrhage. Optimum benefits are achieved when fibrin glue is combined with bolus infusions of factor concentrate. In contemporary times, these sealants are generally used to offer effective tissue adherence and improve local surgical hemostasis.
In recent years, cosmetic surgeries have seen a significant spike due to the high consumer awareness about plastic surgeries and personal appearance and the constant technological developments in surgical procedures. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) states that 821,890 rhinoplasty procedures, 924,031 abdominoplasty procedures, 1,259,839 eyelid surgeries, 1,704,786 liposuction surgeries, and 1,795,551 breast augmentation procedures were performed in 2018, globally. These surgeries involve alteration, restoration, and reconstruction of the human body parts. Medical professionals use fibrin glue during these surgical procedures to prevent any marks of surgeries.
Additionally, cardiac surgeons are also applying high volume of fibrin glue for tissue adherence and hemostasis during cardiac surgeries to avoid blood loss, as it is one of the most precarious issues encountered during these surgeries. With the increasing number of cardiac surgeries, the application of the glue will accelerate in the foreseeable future. This has, therefore, encouraged key players to acquire the product portfolio of other companies and collaborate with other firms to offer more enhanced solutions for hemostasis in surgical settings.
Globally, North America is the leader in the fibrin glue market. This is majorly due to the surge in cardiac surgeries and plastic surgeries. For instance, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. records at least one cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related death every 36 seconds. Further, the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) states that the U.S. registered 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures in 2019. Moreover, the vast population of the elderly and huge healthcare expenditure have also fueled the consumption of fibrin glue in the region.
Whereas, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market will demonstrate the fastest growth in the foreseeable future, on account of booming geriatric population, rising per capita income, growing incidence of burn cases, and increasing number of road accidents. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) states that the population of individuals aged 60 years or above will reach around 437 million in China and 324 million in India, by 2050. Additionally, the escalating healthcare awareness and amplifying government expenditure will also result in high-volume consumption of fibrin glue in the coming years.
Thus, the escalating number of cardiac and cosmetic surgeries will amplify the usage of fibrin glue in the coming years.

Voltron Armor Tutorial: Part Three! Calf/Shin Guards
Part three of my Voltron Paladin Armor tutorial is finally here! This part of the series will cover the shin/calf guards.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I do not pattern anything out. I just measure and then use reference pictures to sketch out the design.
FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES! (AKA use filter mask and work in a well ventilated area, cut away from yourself, use safety gloves and glasses, etc)
Materials: 5mm craft foam, 2mm craft foam, Glossy Mod Podge (or another sealant), white Plasti-dip ( or another foam primer), heat gun, box knife (or craft knife), white and paladin color (red for Keith, etc) acrylic paint, hot glue gun and sticks, contact cement, Velcro, white zippers, plastic sheet protectors, light blue tissue paper, battery operated LED lights, marker, ruler, paint brushes, scissors, sewing measuring tape, and masking tape.
Time to Complete: 4-6 hours
Steps:
1.) Basic Measurements: This piece requires four measurements, the length of shin/calf, the circumference of the ankle, and the circumference of knee, and the width of the back of the knee.
2.) Basic Shape: The shape as a whole is very basic, the top is straight until it gets to the bottom where it will cut inwards to narrow it. The top of this piece is more complicated. The front has a “V” shape design that should cover the front of the shin, the back has a square cut out so the knee can bend (which will be divided in half).
Tumblr media
3.) Cut out the design with a sharp box knife or craft knife. Using the heat gun, heat seal the pieces.
4.) Cut out a small piece of Velcro. Glue it to the middle of the back of the piece using contact cement or hot glue (Warning: hot glue by itself can melt in hot weather).
5.) Prime the piece with 3-5 layers of Plasti-dip or your choice of foam primer. Once that is dried, paint the entire piece white.
6.) Colored details: the top part of the shin piece is lined with the paladin’s color. Using the 2mm foam, cut out strips about 1/2-1 inch wide in the shape of the “V.”
Tumblr media
7.) Heat seal, prime and paint these pieces with the paladin’s color (My armor is for Keith, so they are red). Glue them to the calf pieces, being careful with lining them up. Paint the top of the foam, where the details meet the big piece.
8.) Seal the entire piece with 3-5 layers of Mod Podge or your choice of sealant.
9.) Carefully, warm up the back of the piece with the heat gun and bend it to the shape of your calf.
10.) Closing: Like most pieces of this armor, they have the ability to be slipped on. Yet, if you want to make the process easier, you can add a closing to the back (I did this because it is hard to bend to put shoes on when all of the armor is on. So, I need to be able to pull these pieces over my shoes). After trying many different types of closings, I finally decided to use zippers. Get zippers that are the length of your calves (measure your calf, don’t just hold it up like I did. Mine was not long enough so I had to add a flap). Using hot glue or contact cement (or both), glue one side of the zipper to the inside of the piece. Unzip the zipper and glue it to the other side.
Tumblr media
11.) Ankle Circles: (You will need four of these, two for each leg) The easiest ways of creating the little circle pieces that are on the bottom is to do the line method. Cut out a line about 1/4-1/2 of an inch wide and long enough to make a circle. Heat seal it and bend it into a circle. Glue the ends together. Copy the circle shape onto the 2mm foam. Cut the middle of it out, leaving about 1/4 inch rim (***Don’t glue on yet!)
Tumblr media
12.) Light filters: Before gluing the top on, copy the circle shape onto the plastic sheet protectors and tissue paper. Sandwich the tissue paper in between the sheet protectors. Glue them to the circle piece and then glue on the top piece. Seal the sides with hot glue.
13.)  Carefully, heat seal the piece. Cover the light filter with tape. Prime and then paint the piece white. Seal them with Mod Podge Glue them to the leg piece, leaving a small part of them overhanging the piece. (This will allow you to insert the LED lights.) (Note: Make sure the circle pieces are glued down firmly or light will shine through the cracks.)
14.) Cut out a strip of 2mm foam that is about 1/2-1 inch wide and long enough to wrap around the ankle. Heat seal, prime, paint, and seal the strips. Glue them down, cutting them when they reach the ankle circles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
15.) Threading LEDs: Wind half of the LED string into a circle. Insert it into one of the ankle circles.Thread the wire along the bottom to the other half, and insert the remaining lights. Thread the rest of the wire up to the top, where the battery pack will be located. Glue a small piece of Velcro to the battery pack and then to the foam. From here, you can leave the wire free hanging, or you can glue or tape it down (Make sure your switch is facing up, unlike mine).
Tumblr media
AND you’re done!!
Sorry it took so long to get this one posted. “Hell” week and Finals week of college kicked my butt and then my internet connection quit working for a bit.

Hemostasis & Tissue Sealing Agents Market
Market Overview
The Global "Hemostasis & Tissue Sealing Agents Market" is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3% in the forecast period (2021-2028).
Hemostasis is a process that stops bleeding by keeping the blood within the damaged blood vessel. Hemostatic agents are used to achieve hemostasis by reducing during surgical operations. These agents help in rapid hemostasis, have shorter operation time, decrease healing time. Hemostatic agents achieve hemostasis through different mechanisms, which include concentrating coagulation factors, adhesion to the tissues.

The global hemostasis & tissue sealing agents market is primarily driven by the rising number of surgeries and increasing demand for minimally invasive surgeries.
In multiple conditions of surgeries such as cardiovascular and endoscopic procedures, hemostatic agents are preferred over wound closure methods owing to the quick recovery and the difficulty to work in sensitive organs. Also, there have been many cases of traumas, deaths due to hemorrhage conditions, and the ensuing excessive bleeding.
For instance, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, 3792 clinical studies related to hemorrhage conditions are conducted worldwide. Out of these studies, 1,326 studies are noted to be done in the North America region, and the U.S. alone has 1,104 studies, while Europe is noted to conduct 1,194 studies.
However, the lack of proper reimbursements for these products will restrain the growth of hemostasis and tissue sealing agents.
 Market Segmentation Analysis
Urology is expected to hold the highest share in the therapeutic area segment owing to the increasing outpatient surgeries. A variety of hemostatic and tissue sealants are available for performing urologic surgeries.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, 26% of urology procedures were being performed as outpatients in 1987, and this increased to 51% by 2017.
Fibrin is expected to have the largest share in the class segment of the global hemostasis & tissue sealing agents market owing to the multiple areas of applications and great cost-efficiency.
For example, Fibrin glue products are approved by the U.S. FDA in 1998 to help in reinforcement of colonic anastomoses, splenic trauma, and cardiothoracic surgery. The product offers topical hemostasis, sealant properties, and promotes tissue approximation. In the presence of thrombin, fibrinogen is converted to fibrin, which further stabilizes the clot.
 Geographical Share
North America holds the major share of hemostasis & tissue sealing agents market owing to the high prevalence of chronic diseases that require surgeries.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), In the U.S., 6 out of 10 Adults have a chronic disease, of which 4 in 10 Adults have two or more diseases.
Europe also holds a significant share owing to the growing preference for technologically advanced sealing agents in the region.
For example, on 29th November 2018, the scientists of Lobachevsky University launched a unique hemostatic agent called Tectum that is used in emergency and military medicine.
On 3rd April 2017, Baxter International has launched FLOSEAL Full Sterile Preparation (FSP), an improved design of FLOSEAL hemostatic Matrix which was only available in Europe, but they have been supplied worldwide from 2019.

Wound closure is one of the vital steps of surgical procedure, whereas suturing is termed as the most widely used method of wound closure. The process of suturing usually prolongs the length of surgery and increases the patient’s risk of anesthesia awareness. It has several disadvantages, including iatrogenic trauma to the tissue, pain, increased risk of infection and inflammation, delayed healing, and inability to provide an immediate seal. Nowadays, interest in surgical glues as a substitute to suturing has been increasing. Rise in need, application, and availability of surgical glues for different surgical subspecialties has been observed. A significant number of surgical glues functionally depend on a physiologic coagulation cascade. Two of the essential components of the coagulation cascade are thrombin and fibrinogen. In the presence of calcium ions, thrombin cleaves the fibrinogen chains. The resulting fibrinogen monomers eventually polymerize and form a fibrin clot. These steps are independent of the coagulation pathway and can be reproduced artificially. The rate of the clot formation increases with thrombin concentration. The strength of the clot, on the other hand, depends on the concentration of fibrinogen.
The cyanoacrylates sub-segment held a major share of the synthetic & semi-synthetic adhesives and sealants product segment of the surgical glue market in 2018. This sub-segment is likely to maintain its dominance during the forecast period, owing to the increase in its usage in different types of surgeries for various indication. User-friendliness and safe application of surgical glues have resulted in their greater adoption, as compared to traditional wound closure methods. The cyanoacrylates sub-segment is anticipated to grow at a rapid pace during the forecast period. The fibrin sealants sub-segment held a significant share of the natural adhesives and sealants product segment of the surgical glue market and it is likely to expand at a moderate CAGR between 2019 and 2027. The expansion of this sub-segment can be attributed to the rise in surgeries.

In terms of indication, the hemostasis segment held a major share of the global surgical glue market in 2018. This can be attributed to their advantages such as easy-to-use, and no trauma to the internal body organs and vessels. Moreover, the ergonomic design of these products offers high stability.
Based on application, the cardiovascular surgery segment held a major share of the global surgical glue market in 2018. This segment is likely to maintain its dominance during the forecast period. Rise in incidence of diseases correspondingly drives the number of surgical procedures performed, thereby, boosting the usage of surgical glues in surgeries and mainly, cardiovascular procedures globally. It has been a standard procedure in most medical centers providing surgical services for several years. Both the range and the number of surgical procedures performed are constantly increasing, which is driving the segment.
In terms of end user, the hospitals segment held a major share of the surgical glue market in 2018.  Hospital providers are more likely to have experience with trauma patients and emergency measures than surgery center providers. Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) are outpatient facilities that offer surgical procedures to patients at reduced costs, often with greater scheduling flexibility than hospitals.
