So, i saw a post with NY headcanons and it reminded me that while i included my own disabled headcanons in my fics, i forgot to make my own headcanons post (?) and i've got more than i though lol
So here we go!
NY: Dude got a bad eye, someday it's normal, other days it get blurred. He also has a scar over it, and his shoulders can get funky when its humid outside.
NJ: some of y'all already knows it, but Jersey got Tourette's. Mostly shoulder jerking, neck twitching, blinking hard and grimacing. When it gets bad his back jerks, and his vocals tics get worse (mostly whistles and pop, tho if hes anxious/stressed he does repeat some words)
Delaware: he got arthritis in his hands, and can hardly move them.
Mass: He was injured during the revolution, and walking became harder for him (limping and his legs became stiffer), then another injury during the civil war made him unable to walk for some days, therefore he use a wheelchair most of the time. He is still able to walk, but it is either too painful, or he doesn't have the energy needed to be able to stand all day.
Connie: he got shaky hands, when he's tired, nervous or angry, he cant hold anything with those. Its his nerves, and it doesnt hurt but its annoying.
Vermont: he got diabetes! Type 1; and it's so fucking expensive that it's Québec his "dealer" (it cost around 98$US when here its around 12$CAN sooo). He also got a sweet tooth, and forget to watch his sugar level (Hampshire there's for it; buddy's wayy to protective to let anything happen to Vermont)
PA: he's dyslexic, and it's mostly Mass who helps him with paperwork when he's not badgering Connie.
Florida: That gremling got Adhd, big dyslexia and his first language is spanish (which doesnt help with the reading). He also got so many scars from disturbing wildlife (anyone has seen that "yoink" dude in the everglades? Yeah thats flo). He got chronic pain in his left knee, and his right wrist always cracks when he moves it.
Louie: french lover is a people pleaser, but the chillest person you'll ever meet. He never panics, and is sometime too calm; but hurt any of the southern state (or Cal) and you're done. He's the voodoo capital, so dont mess with him
Georgia: hes an insomniac, but is fucking sleepy during the day (the math aint mathing ya know). He can sleep anywhere except during the night. He's bud with york and nevada, you can find those three driking in silence during a poker game.
Virginia: (uses they/them) they have a limp on the left leg, who always in pain (low but chronic with some real bad days). They're also a sleepwalker (think Celinaspookyboo style) and Georgia (or one of the insomniac state) each switch to watch them at night.
Montana: deer in headlights when spoken to. Will not talk to anyone when he doesnt have something to say or isnt upset (that sketch with the clown thing? Yeah he talked to them cause he was angry). Dont talk to him, dont even aknowledge him and he'll be more than happy to not exist in your mind. (Hes jealous of alaskas ability to not being seen)
Cal: dudes his always in pain. The fire, the drought, to goldrushes, hes always hurting. He got big scars from the fires, and his skin is the dryest thing ever despite all the moisturizer he uses. When he's burning up his eyes gets cloudy grey; they itch and cry all the time, and he cant see shit. He also need an oxygen mask when its too bad, and his eyes are naturaly gold.
Washington: hes a bitch. Dude got poor circulation too, so his hands and feet are always cold. When it's raining for too long his hair is oily, and when it's a drought it's the driest (he uses dryshampoo and got a routine to fight it).
Oregon : hes gay. Thats a known thing, and he's the bridge between Cal and Wash. Hes nicer to cal than wash, but he's not kind. The west coast are nice in interraction, but they ain't your friends.
Nevada: ah, vada. He got scaring from the nuclear testing, can see in the dark like nobody, and is the only state who can chose to change their physical appearance. Has coloured hair (pink or purple mostly) and the greenest eyes you'll ever see (or purple, didnt made my mind yet). Hes careful with his diet and always exercice despite the painful joins.
Texas: that idiot got sleep apnea but refuses to get checked out for it (and get a CPAP). He also has asthma (geez that word is hard to write) and colorblindness (can't see red). He only wears his shirt cause he knows what the colours are and refused to be pranked about that.
If you wanna adds your own, your welcome to do so! ^^

So I’m in a silly goofy wholesome mood, so take some hc’s of the states essentially being adult children :]
*gives you a cookie and some hot cocoa*
-a while ago, the regions all had a treehouse making contest (since they have the woods as a backyard) and it’s safe to say that they all won :3
-during the fall, some of the states will rake up the leaves into piles to jump in them cuz it’s fun and silly
-^*cue Alaska picking up Texas and throwing him into a pile of leaves, and Florida doing the same to Louisiana. Meanwhile Washington’s dying in the background cuz allergies are a b!tch :( *
-they will all have full on games of tag, like one state will tag another and say “Tag! You’re it!” and then literally everyone present will drop whatever they’re doing and run like their lives depended on it.
-^this usually ends with a bunch of tired out states, and that means…. MOVIE NIIIIIGHT!!
-Movie Nights are a thing and they 100% happen a couple times a week.
-every single state has a stuffed animal that is one of their favorite things ever (Even Gov. His is an eagle 🥹)
-Nerf battles. There are nerf guns LITERALLY everywhere. The statehouse has turned into a round of Call of Duty multiple times and it will happen several times more. (Poor Gov has gotten himself caught in so many nerf battles 😭 Mans just wanted his damn coffee 😭)
-Half of the fighting that happens amongst the states is actually play fighting.
-Household Hide’n’Seek is a thing and NY, RI, LA, and TX (he’s a bendy straw and has no joints okay-) are the champions.
-PILLOW FORTS AND PILLOW FIGHTS PILLOW FORTS AND PILLOW FIGHTS PIL-
-full on snowball battles whenever it snows a lot, and those usually end in movie nights and hot cocoa :)
Now individual (sorta) hc’s:
-Alaska and Texas play fight/wrestle on the daily, and they can be rougher with each other since they are bigger states. Though they know to stop if one actually hurts the other (Alaska is extra careful sometimes though cuz Texas bruises really easily and he’d rather not be murdered by the south in various gruesome ways-)
-New York LOVES play fighting. He will legit just come up behind someone and playfully punch, shove, or headbutt them and those that are close to him know that he wants to play 🥺 Tho sometimes it’s taken the wrong way and someone actually gets hurt- surprisingly it’s usually NY that gets hurt cuz he wasn’t expecting his opponent to ACTUALLY try to genuinely fight him 😭 And then he’s just left there to be like-"What’d I do 🥲”
-sometimes Texas will jokingly use Louisiana as an armrest when talking to somebody, which sometimes makes Loui bite him, but Loui sometimes also just deals with it or just clings to or cuddles Texas’s arm.
-Texas 100% squeals like a little girl whenever he sees a cute animal, and I DEFY you to tell me otherwise. Like- I can see him walking into the statehouse and someone will say hello and he’ll just say "Hi". Y’know, like a fvcking robot. But the moment an animal walks into the room, he’ll be like-"*le gasp* Awwwww!! Hi Mar!!! Who’s a good boy?? You are!!~” (Mar is one of NJ’s dogs btw).
-CT, MA, and NJ will all gang-cuddle their little brother, and will 100% laugh as NY tires to squirm his scrawny ass outta there
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THESE <3333

Day 6, Sunday Sept 7: Atlantic City, NJ to Wilmington (130 km) + Dover, Delaware (212 km) to Annapolis, Maryland (317 km) to Washington DC (368 km).
Yesterday's luck ran out today. I woke to rain and rode in rain for most of the day. My original plan was to take the ferry from Cape May, NJ, to Lewes, Delaware. I wasn't able to book a reservation online, so that, and the thought of low visibility, lining up and slippery wet metal grates, convinced me to change my plan. It was to be a day of changes.
I head out towards Wilmington instead, avoiding the freeways. That idea soon sours as rather than countryside I'm riding through suburbia, and thanks to the rain I can't see much anyways. At least on the freeway, all I have to do is point and go, so limited visibility is less of an issue. I elect to head for the New Jersey turnpike and take it to New Castle, Delaware, where I meet the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I cross numerous bridges today, but this one stands out. A dual span, steel suspension bridge, it runs 10,765 feet (3,281 m) across the Delaware River at a maximum clearance of 174 ft. Constructed in 1968, it still seems today, to me at least, to be an engineering marvel.
Once across, I head south toward Dover (pop 38,900), which surprise to me, is the capital of Delaware complete with a regal, State House, its own Liberty Bell, and Nascar Motor Speedway. I decide to stop in, look around, and grab some lunch, which I manage to do amidst rain squals.
A gentle rain settles in as I leave, so I go back to country roads for the trip to Annapolis (pop 40,680) and, again, surprise to me, the capital of Maryland. It's a beautiful route filled with small towns, pretty scenery, corn, beans, cranberries, and sunflowers.
I mentioned earlier that this was to be a day of rain and bridges. To reach Annapolis, I must cross the William Preston Lane, Jr., Memorial Bridge over upper Chesapeake Bay. It was opened to traffic in 1952 and is 4 miles (6.4 km) long. Both the views and the bridge itself are extremely impressive. I'm always both I.pressed and nervous, crossing large bridges. This one is definitely in the top ten.
As I reach Annapolis, the sun actually comes out, so I make a last-minute decision to stop in. I tour the capital building and take in some history, from George Washington to Ben Franklin to four of the original signatories of the Declaration of Independence. It is a beautiful town, richly steeped in American history. I could easily spend much longer here.
But Im wet, and Im tired, so I press on for the day's final, rain infused leg to Washington DC (pop 720,000) the U.S. capital, sitting on the Potomac River, bordering the states of Maryland and Virginia. It’s defined by imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings – including the iconic ones that house the federal government’s three branches: the Capitol, White House, and Supreme Court, the Lincoln Memorial, the Library of Congress, and the White House. It's also home to iconic museums, including several Smithsonians and performing-arts venues such as the Kennedy Center. I plan to take a break from the road tomorrow and spend a whole day here. There is much to see.

DAYBREAK
1917
Tumblr media
Daybreak is a play by Jane Cowl and Jane Murfin. It was originally produced by Selwyn and Company staged by Wilfred North and Miss Cowl.
Successful businessman Arthur Frome, who drinks too much, pushes a newsboy under an automobile, thus causing him severe injuries. His wife Edith then becomes disillusioned with her husband and leaves him. After an absence of a few years, Edith returns to her husband but offers no explanation of her behavior. Soon, however, Arthur becomes suspicious when she and their family friend, Dr. Brent, frequently visit a house in which a small child is living. Arthur has Edith followed by the wife of one of his employees, whom he has caught stealing, and soon discovers that the child, who is gravely ill, is his own. Edith confesses that she did not want to raise their child under the influence of a drunkard and so left him in someone else's care. Soon after this confession, Arthur is shot by the husband of the woman who has followed Edith because the man suspected his wife of having an affair. Arthur recovers, however, as does the child, and through Dr. Brent's intervention is happily reconciled with Edith, with whom he plans a new life.
About the Title: The play begins at daybreak in a darkened hallway of a New York apartment. Cowl and Murfin were intent on creating the mood of daybreak without resorting to clichés that might result in laughter. They nixed a visit from the milkman and a crowing rooster. They settled on a single shaft of yellow light piercing the darkness of the quiet room. The first scene is played in silence with no dialogue to create the ‘hush’ of early morning.
Tumblr media
Daybreak premiered in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on the Boardwalk on June 18, 1917.
“[The play] was presented to early summer reporters at Atlantic City.  It will not, therefore, be an unusual sight in Atlantic City to see a large number of people going home after ‘Daybreak'.” ~ WASHINGTON POST
Edith Frome was played by Blanche Yurka, a performer that Cowl had worked with and promised to help in her career. She was later cast in another play by Cowl and Murfin. Arthur Frome was played by Frederick Truesdell, one of Broadway’s most popular leading men.
Tumblr media
In late July and early August, the play was seen on the Jersey shore in Asbury Park at The Savoy and Long Branch at the Broadway.
Tumblr media
Daybreak opened on Broadway at the Harris Theatre (254 West 42nd Street) on August 14, 1917.
About the Venue: The Harris (named after William B. Harris) was built in 1904 as the Lew Fields Theatre. It was variously known as the Hackett, Wallacks, the Frazee, and finally the Anco Cinema. In 1988, the interior was gutted and it was used as retail space. It was finally demolished in 1997 as part of the 42nd Street redevelopment.
Tumblr media
This was the second collaboration between Cowl (above) and Murfin, who previously penned Lilac Time earlier in 1917. Cowl also performed in Lilac Time, which closed on June 9th at The Harris (having transferred from The Republic), allowing Daybreak to move in. Between the two plays, Lilac Time proved the more popular and more successful. In October 1918 they collaborated on a third production, Information Please, with Cowl again performing, which was less successful still. In December 1919, the pair had their most successful script, Smilin’ Through, although they wrote it under the pseudonym Allan Langdon Martin. It inspired two films and two television adaptations. In 1932, Smilin’ Through was the basis for a flop musical titled Through The Years by Vincent Youmans.
"I am really pretty tired," she said. "You see, last summer was a strenuous one. I live at Great Neck on Long Island, and my movie work was done at Fort Lee NJ. I used to get up every morning at 5:30 am and shortly after after 6:30 I was in my car and on my way to Fort Lee. At 7 I was in my dressing room, by 8 I was in the studio. Then it was work until 5 or 6, with a short time off for lunch. Back to New York and rehearsals for "Daybreak,” my new play, until all hours. ~ JANE COWL, OCTOBER 7, 1917
Tumblr media
After the play was established on Broadway, Jane Cowl joined the road company of her Lilac Time. As of October 1917, Cowl was also seen on cinema screens in The Spreading Dawn (a title oddly similar to Daybreak), a civil war drama.
Daybreak closed on Broadway on October 13, 1917 after 71 performances.
Tumblr media
Daybreak was filmed in 1918 starring Emily Stevens and Julian L’Estrange. It is now considered a lost film.

[waves hands] it's about new jersey specifically northern nj specifically the palisades and the george washington bridge and the way the nyc skyline looks across water and at dusk, and it’s about the highways and how the road speeds along underneath you in a blur of grey and beige and it’s about the anger and the impotency, and it’s about being homesick but sick of home, it’s about being trapped no matter where you go, it’s about porch lights and gas stations and diners, and it’s about driving and it’s about walking and it’s about running, and it’s about not knowing where you’ll die but knowing where you’ll be buried, it’s about streetlights in the snow and sunsets on the water, it’s about your friends and your enemies and your family and it’s about being tired and it’s about getting out but going back, if only in your head
