Tips for Making the Most of Your Tiny House UK Experience
The tiny house UK movement has gained significant momentum across the globe, and the UK is no exception. Whether driven by a desire for a minimalist lifestyle, environmental sustainability, or simply the allure of a cozy, compact living space, more and more people are choosing to downsize and embrace the tiny house ethos. However, making the most of your tiny house experience requires careful planning and consideration. Here are some key tips to ensure you fully enjoy your tiny house adventure in the UK.
1. Prioritize Smart Space Planning
Living in a tiny house means every inch counts. Prioritize multifunctional furniture and creative storage solutions to maximize your limited space. Consider furniture that doubles as storage, such as ottomans with hidden compartments or beds with built-in drawers. Use vertical space effectively with shelves and wall-mounted racks. By thinking vertically, you can free up floor space and maintain a sense of openness.
2. Embrace Minimalism
A tiny house UK naturally encourages a minimalist lifestyle, but it's essential to be intentional about what you bring into your home. Declutter regularly and only keep items that serve a purpose or bring you joy. Adopting a "one in, one out" policy can help maintain balance and prevent overcrowding. This minimalist approach not only helps manage space but also contributes to a more sustainable and mindful way of living.
3. Optimize Energy Efficiency
Tiny houses often appeal to those interested in reducing their environmental footprint. To optimize energy efficiency, consider installing solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, and proper insulation. These choices can significantly reduce your energy consumption and lower utility bills, aligning with the sustainable living goals of many tiny house enthusiasts.
4. Personalize Your Space
Just because your house is tiny doesn't mean it can't reflect your personality and style. Use color schemes, decor, and unique design elements to make your tiny house feel like home. Whether it’s a bold accent wall, quirky art pieces, or a collection of plants, personal touches can create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
5. Consider Location and Mobility
Tiny houses UK offer the unique advantage of mobility. If your tiny house is on wheels, take advantage of this by exploring different locations. The UK offers an array of stunning landscapes, from coastal regions to picturesque countryside. However, ensure that you are aware of local regulations and have the necessary permissions before relocating.
6. Engage with the Tiny House Community
Connecting with other tiny house enthusiasts can provide invaluable support and inspiration. Join online forums, attend tiny house festivals, or participate in local meet-ups. The community is often welcoming and eager to share tips, experiences, and advice on how to navigate the challenges and rewards of tiny house living.
7. Plan for the Future
While tiny house living can be a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle choice, it’s essential to plan for the future. Consider how your needs might change over time, whether due to family growth, career changes, or health considerations. Having a flexible plan ensures that your tiny house experience remains positive and adaptable.
8. Enjoy Your Surroundings
One of the benefits of living in a tiny house is the opportunity to engage more with the outdoors. Embrace your surroundings by creating an outdoor living area, whether it’s a small deck, a garden, or a simple patio space. This extension of your living area can provide a sense of space and connection to nature.
In conclusion, making the most of your tiny house UK experience involves thoughtful planning, embracing minimalism, and personalizing your space. By optimizing energy efficiency, engaging with the community, and enjoying your surroundings, you can create a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle in your tiny abode. Remember, the essence of tiny house living lies in simplicity, creativity, and a sense of freedom. Visit more information for your website

oh yeah, I didn't mention this because I can only process one thing at a time at the moment. You'd think owning your home would not mean that you could get evicted but surprise! turns out I have to move out for two years.
the insane series of events is:
my flat blocks are built (2016)
grenfell tower burns down because of criminal cladding and 70 people die. (2017)
the UK starts taking fire safety seriously (kinda. maybe.)
I buy my flat (2021) and receive a certificate saying my flat is not a fire hazard - and am told that actually its fine, the cladding isn't dangerous but whoops! they built the firebreaks in the building wrong. they might have to do some fixes but shouldn't be too bad. teeeeeny tiny problem, barely worth mentioning
building owner starts to sue the people who built the building and the people who certified that the building was built correctly.
residents are told that the entire building has to be gutted down to the studs (july 2024) and we can either sell it back to the developer or move out and wait for the firebreaks to be fixed and the flats rebuilt
builders want to start before the end of the year so make a decision quickly.
its an easy decision for me because I'm single, work from home, and the company is going to pay for me to move and all my rent and everything and rebuild my flat to my specifications and probably paint it better than I did (not hard). also I don't have enough equity built up to buy another flat as nice as this one yet. but my neighbours are a different story. there's kids here, who have to go to school. One of my neighbours just sublet her flat and is going to australia for a year, after the developer told us that we could sublet. its a mess.
anyway if 2024 could please try and be a bit more predictable I'd be quite happy thanks.

The Hopes of the Next Generation for Architectural Spaces: Ambitions Amid Growing Constraints Introduction The quest for affordable housing is becoming increasingly challenging for the upcoming generation, shaped by a combination of economic constraints, social shifts, and an evolving architectural landscape. While the desire for a comfortable, architecturally meaningful space has remained unchanged, the circumstances surrounding the pursuit of housing have dramatically altered. This article will examine the residential ambitions of the next generation across three different parts of the world: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Egypt. Each of these countries presents its unique obstacles to aspiring homeowners, providing an intriguing lens through which to view the interplay of economic opportunities, migration, and architectural ambition. United States: A Housing Crisis in the Land of Opportunities In the United States, the pursuit of housing for millennials and Gen Z is hindered by economic constraints, rising costs, and supply issues. According to a study conducted by the National Association of Home Builders in 2023, 67% of Americans between the ages of 25-35 found homeownership to be out of reach due to surging housing prices and interest rates. Real estate values in high-density urban areas like New York and San Francisco have seen a significant spike since 2015, with median home prices crossing the $1 million mark. While young Americans have started moving to lower-cost states like Texas and Arizona for affordable housing opportunities, architects have had to adapt by designing modular, compact housing that balances efficiency with comfort. Prefabricated and community-focused housing solutions have seen a rise in popularity. The architectural response has been to maximize livability in smaller spaces, emphasizing the need for innovative use of multi-functional areas and sustainable materials. Tiny House Movement, for instance, has grown significantly in recent years as it provides an affordable alternative for those burdened by student loans and low wages. This architectural solution directly addresses economic challenges while promoting sustainability and minimalist lifestyles. United Kingdom: Migration and Scarcity of Housing The United Kingdom presents an interesting dynamic, where homeownership opportunities for young people are highly impacted by an ever-changing political and social landscape. In 2022, it was reported that 1,400 millionaires emigrated from the UK due to rising taxes and the rising cost of living—one of the highest rates of wealthy migration globally. As the wealthy population decreases, urban development is recalibrated to cater to different demographics, creating an environment where young people are presented with both opportunities and obstacles. London, in particular, stands out as a city with skyrocketing property prices that have kept younger generations out of the housing market. Median home prices in London have risen to £526,000 in 2024, a number that poses a significant obstacle for first-time buyers whose average household income is well below what is required for a mortgage. For young renters, the shortage of available housing, particularly in metropolitan areas, has resulted in shared living becoming the new norm. Architects in the UK have begun to incorporate co-living spaces as a means of addressing these issues. Co-living architecture allows for shared amenities, reduced costs, and encourages community-driven spaces that appeal to the younger demographic. Furthermore, adaptive reuse has become a trend, where unused commercial spaces are repurposed into residential buildings, easing some of the pressure on housing supply. Egypt: Navigating Population Growth Amid Economic Hardship Egypt presents a completely different picture, where rapid population growth intersects with economic challenges, creating a significant strain on housing opportunities for the next generation. The country’s population exceeded 110 million in 2024, with Cairo alone being home to over 20 million people. The need for affordable housing is critical, and the demand for urban development is only expected to rise as young Egyptians make up 60% of the country’s population. Egypt has undertaken various ambitious projects, such as the New Administrative Capital, to tackle the overpopulation issue in Cairo. However, these large-scale projects cater primarily to the middle and upper classes, often leaving low-income groups with limited options for adequate housing. Informal settlements continue to accommodate nearly 40% of Cairo’s residents, reflecting a considerable gap in housing availability for the majority. Architects have taken up the challenge by designing vertical urban communities to maximize space utilization. Additionally, initiatives have emerged to provide affordable housing that caters to lower-income groups while considering the cultural dynamics of family living, which is of high importance in Egyptian society. Green Roof Architecture has also been introduced as a practical way to address issues like overcrowding and lack of green spaces in Cairo. It creates a healthier environment and fosters community activities, thus attempting to reconcile the city’s dense architectural footprint with the population's need for livable environments. Addressing the Architectural Needs of the Next Generation As the next generation strives to find their place in the urban fabric of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, architects have had to rethink the traditional definitions of a residential space. The demand for affordable, efficient, and sustainable housing is a common theme across the board, as are the challenges presented by economic disparities and urban migration. The architectural solutions that arise in each of these countries provide insight into how urban planners and designers can reconcile growth with the needs of a young, diverse population. In the US, modular and tiny homes cater to a cost-sensitive generation, while in the UK, shared living spaces have emerged as an affordable alternative. In Egypt, innovative, culturally-attuned solutions seek to provide affordable housing while addressing the density crisis. The future of housing for the next generation hinges on embracing flexibility and rethinking the ways in which architecture can serve diverse needs. Sustainable design, modular construction, and community-oriented planning are essential strategies that must be considered to ensure the next generation's ambitions for homeownership are within reach. Conclusion While the challenges are clear, the ambition for quality living spaces has not waned. Architects must continue to innovate, adapting their designs to meet the constraints imposed by economic realities, migration patterns, and population growth. The solutions seen in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Egypt show that while obstacles exist, the potential for creating resilient, inclusive, and future-proof housing is immense. The ambition of the next generation to inhabit architectural spaces, despite growing economic and social challenges, requires a collaborative effort between policymakers, architects, and communities. Through innovation and creativity, the dream of a well-designed, comfortable home can become a reality for all. https://archup.net/smart-cities-promise-extraordinary-economic-opportunities-by-2025/ Read the full article

Dream's discord podcast. Basically him answering questions for 2.5 hours. This will sort of be in order but I fucked up my notes so it might not be in order completely. (From 13th May 2021)
For reference the photos at the end are: A prototype of fidget spinner merch as loads of people asked, a reference photo of his favourite merch and a photo he sent of his hair to prove he wasn't a brunette.
•He said his teeth are mostly straight but he's thought about getting Invisalign. He's never had braces. He has a tiny gap in the left side of his mouth and his canines are longer and sharper (vampire arc). He's never had teeth surgery so has his wisdom teeth still.
•He thinks pineapple on pizza is good.
•He likes seafood like lobster and crab. He had crab made in an air fryer last night. He like peas. He thinks quesadillas are good and likes most food.
•He hates Coffee and most drinks
•The Dream Shorts team is Ken who is his personal reminder (Ken's main job is to spam him with texts so he doesn't forget things as he's got a habit of reading texts and not replying) and also comes up with a list of sets for Dream shorts. The builder is a friend and munchymc builder "his talent gets wasted on Dream's shorts but we pay him so"
•His editors are currently Dizzy, Firesale and Mjcr. Willz doesn't edit for him anymore
•The mask animation isn't done but Mask should be released May 21st. He wants to release them together as "the whole song is a double meaning and the whole nuance will be lost without the animation" but no matter if the animation is done the song is getting released on the 21st.
•He and Sapnap eat together often.
•He and Sapnap prefer medium rare Steak
•He wants a home gym it's something he's willing to splurge on. They currently have a weight rack but they haven't even set it up.
•"Eat the rich? Shut up shut up" - Dream
•Talked about money basically saying "Most people don't understand how money works I don't have millions in my bank account it's in assets like merch, land and warehousing for that stuff" (He's not in his landlord arc)
•He's been debating Pride Merch because of Rainbow Capitalism. He doesn't want it too be seen as a money maker and if he does most proceeds would go to charity. He's currently super busy merch wise with Sapnap joining and George in the middle of joining. He did say "Only if the LGBTQ+ community in this community wants it" He thinks he's going to at least change the merch website to a pride one. Sapnap wants to make pride merch including a rainbow flame on his.
•He wants to create a charity that's centered around helping LGBTQ+ one day because he thinks that there's a lack of them. He mentioned that creating a charity was expensive and took a lot and was a complicated process including a board of directors but he wants to do it someday.
•He wanted to buy a bunch of houses in Florida which was a service to house mostly LGBTQ+ youth and people stuck in abusive households for free to get them out of bad home environments. But he didn't because he didn't want people thinking he was profiting of of abuse victims and LGBTQ+ community.
•He said he's terrible with time management and replying to people which is why Ken helps him (and also helps George and Sapnap). He mentioned how Sam messaged multiple times and Dream just forgot to answer but felt bad "I feel like people think I hate them..... Cause I'd be mad if people did that to me"
•He tries to reply to a few texts a day (community number). He also can't do birthday messages everyday because you can only reply at certain times so it's not abusing the system so if you get one it's special. He said he does try but it's got a weird time gap.
•Him and the manhunt winner are trying to come up with a good time to film
•He wants to stream this MCC on twitch and says his team is good.
•He talks about why he's not partnered with Twitch. Basically Twitch has a lock rate (in which you make money) and you legally can't stream on YouTube. So legally if Tommy wanted to stream on YouTube he couldn't. Someone then mentioned how Bad is a twitch partner but still streams on YouTube "Bad streams on YouTube but he has for a while and I don't think that he cares" - Dream
•He likes to reply to every donation he gets on stream and feels bad when he doesn't so he'll turn them off when he streams and wants a platform deal where he can be payed to stream (not twitch). If he gets a streaming partnership he will stream a couple of times a week. He looked in to Facebook but they don't have an alias system meaning you can see everyone's actual Facebook account and personal info, he doesn't like seeing real names on Facebook so it would require a lot of altering if he was to stream there so he's thinking it's probably going to be YouTube.
•He was asked about if his demographic was what he expected and he said he went in with no expectations, he didn't even know what stans were, wasn't really on social media so he wasn't aware of the fan culture. "You guys are a handful sometimes but it's worth it"
•He also mentioned how he and the DreamSMP changed the twitch audience demographic. It used to be male dominated in both streamers and audience and now it's almost split which is unheard on.
•He has 5 fidget spinners in his house. Two in his bedroom. Two in his office. One in the living room.
•He likes his Minecraft skin as he thinks the arm is cook and you never see the rest of his skin really. He says it's unique and different and "me". Dream: You can't even tell half the skins apart on MC.
•He's not lost the motivation to stream. Most of the times if he wants to stream he gets George or Sapnap to do it and he just turns up. It's more beneficial to them as they have donos and subs on. (Don't we fucking know it "can you say hi to")
•He has listened to Lovejoy. Says the ep was great and they're very talented and awesome. Doesn't know what his favourite song is but probably would pick One Day because the chorus slaps.
•RIP to acoustic Roadtrip. He said instead of acoustic Roadtrip we get Mask so no losses today for Dream stans.
•"With Roadtrip I went to Parker and I said Hey I have a story I want to tell through music. I have no experience with that can you help me" He said sure. He crafted the music and melodies and how things are formed where it's catchy. I have less comfort singing that. I love the song and it's my song, it's very representative of me and I'm sure I could sing it but it's a song I'd be kinds of scared to sing live, with Mask I basically did everything. I sat there the entire time and maybe an hour out if the 100 I wasn't in the call. Dream came up with the lyrics and main melody for Mask (First one he's ever come up with) "That was just notes in my fucking voice memos"
•The clip we heard of Mask was a prechorus not the actual chorus. He thinks he'd be more comfortable to do a mask acoustic and it's more melodic than Roadtrip. The chorus also has a lot of instruments similar to Roadtrip. Mask starts of slow and guitar with minimal reverb and is more raw.
• He doesn't want music to be his main thing. It's something fun to do and he's passionate about it as it's a way to express emotions. He wants to release mask then go from there. He wants to release at least one more song but has nothing on his mind currently. His two ideas were Roadtrip and Mask.
•He wouldn't quit his job to become a pizza delivery man.
•His favourite features on himself are eyes or freckles and he also confirmed that he does have eyebrows.
•He was told that Parkour warrior would be bought back some time in the near future and he got excited for it. "Even if I don't win, which I will, it'll be fun"
•Went on about his MCC team but I'm not going to put that in as we should be getting them today. He did say he wasn't on Pink but he did sound confused. (For reference he's always in Pink as it's the last team announced and keeps the hype up by announcing the biggest streamer last)
•Said he and his mum had the Mr Beast burger. He recommends because he likes the avacado. He mentioned how Mr Beast uses "Ghost Kitchens" which is basically where he gives restaurants permission to cook his food so it's restaurant quality food.
•His favourite piece of merch is the circle smile. (The pool photo on Instagram). He said the quality was bad (he worked with a different company and didn't have his own company) and it was elasticy feeling and he's planning on re-releasing it again but with good quality.
•He's started to send merch out in custom packaging. So his bags have the smile and will mostly be green. Sapnap's has the flame and is either black or white. He's also trying to make it so every order has the sticker packs for both him and Sapnap.
•He loves the coins as it's cheaper than a hoodie but still celebrates the milestones and will last a long time. He mentioned how the old coins are getting removed off the site and how if you have any of the coins your special because only a few thousand get made. He's kept around 100 of each coin that he wants to give away in person.
•He wanted to have a cool store where you could access computers that give you access to the DreamSMP in spectator mode. But it's too costly and would require too much time and isn't safe fight now. He doesn't think it'd be worth it financially.
•Most of the hoodie are black instead of multiple colours because of limited supply and covid. Getting the colours are harder because if the pandemic which hopefully won't be an issue soon.
•He wants to do a short meetup tour with Sapnap and George with a few locations in the US (and if others nearby want to join like Quackity or Karl they can). He also wants to visit Australia, UK, Canada, Mexico and Philippines and do something like that there but definitely at least visit with George and Sapnap.
•He's never been to the Philippines but his mum has. He wants to set up a place in the Philippines where he can ship merch in bulk and it would help to reduce shipping. However it would probably be big milestone merch.
•He's not got the vaccine yet but will get it when he needs to. He doesn't leave the house so he doesn't see the point.
•He's the ideas man. George's footcam video was Dream's idea. The T-shirt video was Dream's idea. Most if not all of the Dream Team's videos are Dream's ideas.
•Said he's got a similar/the same hair colour as Froy (Dream buddy at this point the only difference between you and Froy is that one of you is dating Richard Madden /lh)

Trip 4, final days.  On Tuesday I spent some time planning my trip to Rzeszow that would happen on Wednesday. The first time I went to Poland back in March I spent quite a bit of time in Rzeszow, as that was the closest visa centre to the Ukrainian border. When I returned I learned from my aunt that I had Jewish ancestors that used to live in this region of Poland. My grandfather’s father left in the early 1900’s with a group that mostly went on to Canada and America, many of the family stayed but were unfortunately victims of the hollocaust. My aunt sent me a letter by a Canadian relative who had been to the area in 2005, he mentioned the village where they used to live and the town where they would visit a synagogue. These places were not far from Rzeszow so I decided to go back and take a look. I was able to include driving some refugees from Rzeszow to Warsaw on my way back.
Tuesday would be my last full day so I tied up some loose ends and generally made sure everything was going smoothly for my departure. Thankfully everything seemed fine and after what had been a pretty busy and intense week things were a bit calmer, my illness seemed to be going away so that was a relief, looking back I’m pretty sure I had covid.
On Wednesday morning myself and James tackled updating the website, which uses Squarespace as the content management system. As a programmer I never get to use these website builder programs, I was shocked at how limited it was compared to the freedom I usually have. Everything had to be pieced together in big Lego style blocks row by row. Getting each row to play nice with the previous row was more a case of making hundreds of random adjustments than following any sensible logic. Eventually we got the design working and it looked pretty good but it took a lot longer than it should have.
Tumblr media
James dropped me off at the airport to pick up my rental car and Leonid and Galina were along with us. I said my goodbyes and Galina insisted on getting out of the car for a proper hug and goodbye - she was so thankful for my help and there was no mistaking it. We are hopefully counting the days before her and Leonid can be in the UK and reunited with their daughter and granddaughter.
Before heading off to Rzeszow I had a bite to eat and got my haircut, when I went back to the car I found a parking ticket on the windscreen -  no getting out of this one. I had parked in Biedronka supermarket but they usually have free parking, some do have parking meters and I just didn’t see these ones. It was only a £16 fine so not worth fighting over,, I had a good 1.5 hours of parking and decently cheap haircut so overall not that bad.
The drive to Rzeszow took about 3 hours. I think it must be a new road because there is only one service station and that is not that far from Warsaw. I spent 2 hours searching for somewhere to stop and all that was on offer was a car park and toilet stop. I checked into my hotel and got some dinner whilst studying Google maps for the next day.
Thursday was my day for having a look round the ancestors' old stomping grounds before returning on Friday. I started by going to the village where they apparently ran a small hotel and shop. It must have been a small hotel because the village is pretty tiny and very spread out. It is also very out of the way and seemed like an odd place to have a hotel. It may have been for farm workers rather than anything recreational.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The village these days has a small shop, a library bolted onto a fire station, a school and a church. Most of the buildings are modern as  the Nazi’s destroyed the village in 1941 and used the area as a training ground for the Lufftwaffe. Apparently my relatives had missed all this by moving to Rudnik in 1935, not that that helped them as they were moved to ghettos then to concentration camps, some survived by escaping to Russia others did not survive. Wikipedia tells me that Rzeszow was home to Jewish people from the 1400’s and before WW2 about 14,000 lived there, more than a third of the population. Only 100 survived the war in Rzeszow. There were 10 labour camps in Rzeszow and it is estimated around 20,000 were killed at these camps.
I didn’t know all these details until after I had left, they are obviously shocking and it is difficult to imagine this happening in what is such a remote and peaceful place. I had a good walk around the village and surrounding area, I wasn’t thinking of any of the negativity whilst there, more of the simple daily life that went on before things went bad. I visited the library and asked if they had any local history books. They had a few with a little bit of detail about when the village began and how many people used to live there but there wasn’t that much information available. I took photos of what was available nevertheless.
Tumblr media
I drove from the village to the nearby town where the synagogue was, this journey I assume would have been done by horse and cart and would have taken well over an hour. With the village being so isolated I imagine a weekly visit was likely to keep in touch with the wider world. Probably quite pleasant in the summer but those winter days must have been a bit more gruelling. The town was small and not very well serviced, no cafes or restaurants. It did have an ice cream parlour but I was really after a coffee. I took the short walk from the main square / park to the synagogue which was pretty big for the size of the town, it was clearly being actively used. There were some cemeteries on the map nearby but these seemed to have been built on by residences. With not much else to do in the town I headed back to Rzeszow. Although there wasn’t an awful lot to see on this trip it was worthwhile experience retracing some steps and having a bit more understanding about this part of the family’s background. I’m assuming Rzeszow was their first port of call when they first moved to Poland and they may have been there for a few generations, some more work may reveal those answers.
Friday was a long day. I picked up a family of 3 from a small humanitarian centre in Rzeszow and drove them to Heavenly Hostel. They had been stuck in Rzeszow for 2 months waiting for their visas to be approved and were very happy to be leaving. We managed to stop off at the single service station on the way back and pick up some food. Some generous Poles were still offering free cooked food to Ukrainians in the car park so they picked up some pizza. After making a quick appearance at Heavenly Hostel to drop off the family I had to head to the airport to drop off the rental car, I was only a couple of minutes late which was pretty good going and didn’t get me any late fees. I asked them how I should pay the parking fine from Wednesday as it wasn’t obvious from the ticket, they said by bank transfer which seemed a bit of a hassle, or at a post office. It just so happened there was a post office in the airport two shops away so I got the ticket paid off.
Due to these back to back trips mentally and physically exhausting me, I'm planning to take the rest of the summer off. I also have some regular day job work to be getting on with. I hope beyond hope there is no work for me to do in the autumn but I am prepared to help out again. I’ll still be working on visa issues over here and hopefully keeping in touch with the people we’ve helped bring over.

When Molly & her husband bought this stone cottage it was dismal and dark. It took 8 mos. for contractors to fix it, and then Molly, w/her bright handmade textiles, made it into a colorful, happy family home.
Tumblr media
The rooms were so tiny, that the couple instructed the builders to knock down all the walls and leave just 2 interconnected rooms that became the living room & kitchen.
Tumblr media
After the renovation was complete, Molly noticed that the stone fireplace was too heavy for the style of the home, so she lightened it up. Looks so pretty, now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tile inset over the stove is Molly’s design.
Tumblr media
You can see Molly’s designs all over her lovely home- she made the valances on the windows above the sink.
Tumblr media
Molly & her husband are tall and the cottage had low-beamed ceilings. How did they heighten the ceiling w/o touching the beams? They dug out the floors.
Tumblr media
To further brighten the home, they chose light colors for the walls and tore out the old leaded glass windows, replacing them with new casement ones. The headboard is upholstered with one of Molly’s fabrics.

In the living room, leading to the workshop, Molly has pieces of her work and a chair upholstered in one of her designs.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Tiny House Builder
Choosing the best tiny house builder is a critical step in turning your tiny home dream into reality. With the rise of the tiny house movement, more builders are entering the market, making it essential to find a reputable and experienced professional who can meet your unique needs. This guide will walk you through the key considerations to help you select the perfect tiny house builder.
1. Research and Gather Recommendations
Start your search by gathering recommendations from friends, family, and online communities dedicated to tiny house living. Look for builders with positive reviews and testimonials, and check their social media profiles and websites for portfolios of their work. Sites like Tiny House Listings and Tiny House Talk often feature builder directories and reviews.
2. Check Credentials and Experience
Ensure the builder has the necessary credentials, including licenses, insurance, and certifications. Experience matters, so look for builders who have been in the industry for several years and have a track record of successful projects. Ask about their expertise in specific areas, such as off-grid systems, sustainable materials, or custom designs.
3. Review Portfolios and Visit Completed Projects
Review the builder’s portfolio to see examples of their work. Pay attention to the quality of craftsmanship, design aesthetics, and innovative solutions. If possible, visit completed projects to get a firsthand look at the builder's work. This will give you a better sense of their attention to detail and overall quality.
4. Assess Communication and Compatibility
Effective communication is crucial in any building project. Choose a builder who listens to your ideas, responds promptly to inquiries, and keeps you updated throughout the process. Compatibility is also important; you should feel comfortable working with the builder and confident in their ability to bring your vision to life.
5. Discuss Budget and Timeline
Be clear about your budget and timeline from the start. A good builder will provide a detailed estimate and work with you to stay within your financial constraints. They should also outline a realistic timeline for the project, considering factors such as material availability and weather conditions.
6. Explore Design Flexibility and Customization
Different builders offer varying levels of design flexibility and customization. Determine whether the builder can accommodate your specific design preferences, such as floor plans, materials, and finishes. A builder who offers a high degree of customization can help create a tiny home that truly reflects your personality and lifestyle.
7. Evaluate Sustainability Practices
Sustainability is a key consideration for many tiny house enthusiasts. Inquire about the builder’s approach to eco-friendly construction, including the use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and waste reduction practices. A builder committed to sustainability can help you create an environmentally responsible home.
8. Check Warranties and After-Sales Support
A reputable builder should offer warranties on their work and provide after-sales support. This includes addressing any issues that arise after construction and offering maintenance advice. Ensure you understand the terms of the warranty and what is covered.
9. Compare Multiple Builders
Don’t settle for the first builder you find. Compare multiple builders to get a sense of different styles, prices, and services. This will help you make a more informed decision and ensure you get the best value for your investment.
10. Trust Your Instincts
Finally, trust your instincts. If something feels off or you have reservations about a builder, it’s worth exploring other options. Choosing a builder is a significant decision, and you want to be confident that you’ve made the right choice.
Conclusion
Selecting the best tiny house builder involves thorough research, careful consideration, and clear communication. By following these steps, you can find a builder who meets your needs and helps you create a beautiful, functional, and sustainable tiny home. Remember, the right builder will not only bring your vision to life but also make the entire building process an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Visit more information for your website

How The Property Improvement As Well As Repair Solutions In London Job.
Rj Repair Services.
Beginning Your Project.
Tiny Orangery Conservatories And Also Glass Conservatories.
This did not take place and also at 1920 on 13th Jun he mentioned he reimbursed the cash but would certainly take two days to clear, something my financial institution educated me would only take about two hours max as was a financial institution transfer. Having sent out messages today giving more opportunity to reimbursement I left adverse comments on Facebook. He has actually ultimately taken the page down, not the actions of a person that is genuine. I understand he made use of to trade as WBA Cleaning as well as Maintenance according to his invoice he sent. Please do not make use of NewLook building services Ltd based in Chesterfield.
Are orangeries warm in winter?
No - orangeries are not cold in winter, in fact they are very warm. Orangery roofs are highly thermally efficient, meaning that orangeries are warm and comfortable, whatever the time of year. building contractors local are as warm as any other room in your home – even in winter.
However, every sector has its cowboys and also plainly the structure trade is an industry. You'll be functioning closely with the builder of your new house for a minimum of six months, and you want to ensure you know with that you're. agreeing to work. The exhilaration of beginning construction on your new house might make you wish to hurry with this procedure, yet take your time; it's certainly worth it. Double check that the building contractors you want are actively constructing in those areas. If you're moving to a McMansion in Arizona, it won't be useful to fall in love with a builder that just constructs little residences in Alaska.
Tumblr media
The very first tip-off is if they asked to be paid in cash, or cash-in-hand all with a pledge on no BARREL to be paid. There are, usually, a minimum of 100,000 grievances each year about them. They wreck points for completely trusted contractors, as well as for all the discuss them, they're in the minority-- it simply happens to be a minority that gets a great deal of promotion. When builders have an excess of finished new buildings, there is commonly higher inspiration to market.
If you are an accredited building contractor or tradesperson in NSW, you require to get residence building payment cover for each house structure job over $20,000 including GST. If you fail to show you have relevant site-based experience in a wide range of structure construction job, we can not accept your application. This includes dealing successfully with sub-contractors, customers and also others. As soon as you recognize what licence kind you want, and also you have actually examined you have the right credentials as well as experience, you can get a permit or certificate.
Just How The Residential Property Improvement As Well As Repair Solutions In London Work.
If you pick among these uninhabited brand-new residences, switching over out specific attributes for upgraded variations is often a straightforward procedure, as well as the home builder might agree to include a few of these upgrades as a reward. Don't depend on the builder to tell you when that factor has actually been gotten to. Instead, appoint Thame builder to check out the work and confirm that what you are paying for deserves the cash, and is full to constructing codes. Structure agreements are written by specialists accustomed to building terms and trade techniques. As well as it's likely that individuals who have put together the file you are informed is there to secure you, was, or is, a builder or market expert.
What is the difference between an orangery and a sun room?
The most striking difference between sunrooms, conservatories, and orangeries are: Orangeries are supported by solid brick-built pillars, low-level walls and/or an insulated internal pelmet. Orangeries tend to feature bright & airy roof lanterns, although these can be added to conservatories too.
While you don't want a home builder that purposely takes a long time to finish a task, neither do you want a builder who is eager to do the job quickly, or that regularly knocks off early during the task. Making your Certificateor Diplomain building as well as building and construction must not gobble every one of your time and savings.
Rj Repair Providers.
Are orangeries warmer than conservatories?
Orangeries tend to be a little warmer than conservatories because they have brick walls which can be insulated to keep in the warmth. Because of the brick walls, the heat will have a harder time escaping. The cold will also have a harder time getting in thanks to the insulated walls.
Sign-up to our newsletter and keep up to day with everything home building/ layout associated including information from your much-loved neighborhood home building contractors. If you are a person that holds a structure or swimming pool building licence or certificate, you are needed to do Continuing Specialist Development. Your permit will certainly be automatically suspended if you do not adhere to an order by a court or the NSW Civil or Administrative Tribunal to pay money for a building case.
Do glass box extensions need foundations?
The principal of a glass room does mean the base required is fairly flexible as you do not actually require foundations as you would for a conservatory or brick built extension but only require concrete pads where the support legs are situated.
Most rogue builders do not bring insurance, either, which once again could function to your detriment if an accident took place. Cowboy contractors are merely rogue investors, of course, usually with little or no knowledge of structure, so you wind up with a messed up work-- that's if it's ended up in all. Experience as a Proprietor Building contractor, or as the owner of a Proprietor Building Contractor Authorization, is not appropriate to satisfy the functional experience needs to get a permit or certificate as a contractor. From this moment forward, Checkatrade worked to assist display the best tradespeople from around the UK and has continued to do so since.
Beginning Your Project.
These internet sites hold the information of countless home builders and structure business. Home builders' scores on these sites are based upon the responses from clients, so the much better the task done by the home builder, the greater the ranking. Keep an eye out for boards on building sites in your area, yet always do your own research study also.
Do conservatories need foundations?
Like other new extensions, conservatories must have foundations in place. Foundations are necessary for transmitting the building's weight safely to the ground. Without adequate foundations, the structural integrity of a conservatory is severely affected.
As the day progressed we heard nothing and also I started to try to call. Ultimately he addressed and reiterated his purpose to do the job. When he fell short to do so or even allow us know as it was obtaining later wouldn't show up we realised something was incorrect. The following day after countless efforts through message and also calls,, he eventually agreed to refund the money after 1430.

Let The Sunlight In! Everything You Needed To Know Regarding Sunrooms
They are cowboy builders. They took our deposit worth ₤ 5000 as well as vanished. We took care of to track them down and also found they own one more registered business called NewLook plastics Limited.
Does an orangery add value to your home?
An orangery can increase the value of your property by almost as much as adding a traditional extension. On average, an orangery will cost upwards of £20,000, but it can be cheaper, depending on the size, style, features, and materials you choose.
Newly Constructed Houses.
Information regarding general building work permits and certifications. lately conducted a study finding that possibly 2.5 m people have had a conflict with their building contractor or designer in the past 3 years. does not claim the number of individuals it checked so, if you read my current short article The dangers of studies, you must understand to take the number with a pinch of salt.
It's a help, as well, if the builders and participants of some profession group-- although check that too, given that cowboy structure companies have been known to fake membership. Ultimately, never ever pay in money, as well as absolutely never ahead of time-- you need to only spend for work that's been finished. The very best thing is to learn to identify the cowboy home builders early, so you can transform them away-- it saves a great deal of difficulty later.

Anybody building a brand-new residence needs to sign a contract, as well as while the builder states it is "typical documentation", to lots of people, it's anything however. Besides the late shipment of the ownership a number of other malpractices are complained versus the building contractors.
Inspect online for testimonials as well as get comments from individuals that have actually used the home builders prior to. We reserved WBA building as well as building based in Cheltenham using Facebook search, to provide and also fit a garden bar at expense of ₤ 550. The Thursday beforehand he got in touch with to state as the climate was poor he would not be able to execute the job. Nevertheless, on the Saturday we called him as well as said as the weather condition looked great would he be concerning finish the work. This he stated he would as well as would certainly call 30 minutes in advance so we really did not have to wait in.
Also, the warranty solution has actually been really fast when required.

ITALY’S COMMUNIST RECIPE FOR DISASTER
Published March 24, 2020 |  By Giacomino Nicolazzo
Montecalvo, Lombardy, Italy.
As I sit here in my involuntary isolation, it was just reported that overnight 743 more people died and 5.249 new cases have been reported. This brings the total cases of infection to 69,176 and the body count to 6,820. We take relief in knowing that 8,326 people have recovered so far. ( Numbers as of 3/24, 8:30pm in Italy.)
Most towns here in Italy, from the upper reaches of the Alps to the ancient shores of Sicilia and Sardenia, while not deserted, are closer to being ghost towns than the bustling centers of tourism, business and daily life they were just a few weeks ago.Stores and shops have been shuttered. Restaurants and coffee shops no longer serve customers. Schools, universities, sporting arenas…even our museums and theaters…all closed. Even the Vatican City has closed its gates and armed patrols monitor the 20 foot tall walls that protect it!
Streets and roads are now empty for as far as the eye can see. Normally they would be filled with crazed Italian drivers in tiny cars and scooters (the ones that sound like demonic insects) darting here and there, reaching the limits of centrifugal force on our roundabouts. In the piazze of our towns and cities, there are now officially more pigeons than people. Many of us know someone who has been infected and recovered. Some of us know someone who did not recover…now they are dead. But everyone knows someone who has been affected by this microscopic monster in one way or another.
Sixty million of us are in lock-down…it is like a war zone here. We are being held prisoner in our own homes by an unseen enemy that sneaked in unnoticed…by most of us. As you will read in just a few more minutes, there were those who knew something like this was coming…or at least they should have.So who is to blame? With all this craziness swirling like a whirlpool at our feet, I just had to find the blame answer. And so I have spent my free time (of which I have a lot in these days) digging and researching. I was literally shocked to discover how this has come to be.I am not going to bore you with talk of Patient ‘0’ who spread it to Patient ‘1’ and how mathematics efficiently explains the rapid expansion of infection. No…I am going to tell you how (as I see it) the virus came to Italy. It has everything to do with communists. Allow me to explain.Beginning in about 2014, Matteo Renzi, the imbecile ex-mayor of Firenze (Florence) acting as the leader of the Partito Democratico (synonymous with the Italian Communist party), somehow managed to get himself elected as Italy’s Prime Minister. To give you a proper frame of reference, Matteo Renzi was so far left, he would make Barack Obama look like Barry Goldwater!
At the same time that Renzi was leading Italy into oblivion, strange things were happening in Italy’s economy. Banks were failing…but not closing. Retirement ages were being extended…for some reason the pension funds were dwindling or disappearing. The national sales tax we call IVA (Value Added Tax) rose from 18% to 20%, then to 21% and again to 22%.And in the midst of all this financial chicanery, the Chinese began furiously buying up Italian real estate and businesses in the North. Now the reason I mention Renzi and the Chinese together is that strange things were also going on between the governments of Italy and China. A blind eye was being turned to the way the Chinese were buying businesses in the financial, telecommunication, industrial and fashion sectors of Italy’s economy, all of which take place in Milano.
To be brief…China was getting away with purchases and acquisitions in violation of Italian law and EU Trade Agreements with the US and the UK…and no one in either of those countries (not Obama in the US or Cameron in the UK) said a thing in their country’s defense. As a matter of fact, much of it was hidden from the public in all three countries. In 2014, China infused the Italian economy with €5 billion through purchases of companies costing less than €100 million each.
By the time Renzi left office (in disgrace) in 2016, Chinese acquisitions had exceeded €52 billion. When the dust settled, China owned more than 300 companies…representing 27% of the major Italian corporations. The Bank of China now owns five major banks in Italy…all of which had been secretly (and illegally) propped up by Renzi using pilfered pension funds! Soon after, the China Milano Equity Exchange was opened and much of Italy’s wealth was being funneled back to the Chinese mainland.
Chinese state entities own Italy’s major telecommunication corporation (Telecom) as well as its major utilities (ENI and ENEL). Upon entry into the telecommunication market, Huawei established a facility in Segrate, a suburb of Milano. It launched is first research center there and worked on the study of microwaves which has resulted in the possibly-dangerous technology we call 5G.China also now owns controlling interest in Fiat-Chrysler, Prysmian and Terna. You will be surprised to know that when you put a set of Pirelli tires on your car, the profits are going to China.
Yep…the Chinese colossus of ChemChina, a chemical industry titan, bought that company too!Last but not least is Ferretti yachts…the most prestigious yacht builder in Europe. Incredibly, it is no longer owned by the Ferretti family.
But the sector in which Chinese companies invested most was Italy’s profitable fashion industry. The Pinco Pallino, Miss Sixty, Sergio Tacchini, Roberta di Camerino and Mariella Burani brands have been acquired by 100%.Designer Salvatore Ferragamo sold 16% and Caruso sold 35%. The most famous case is Krizia, purchased in 2014 by Shenzhen Marisfrolg Fashion Company, one of the leaders of high-priced, ready-to-wear fashions in Asia.
Throughout all of these purchases and acquisitions, Renzi’s government afforded the Chinese unrestricted and unfettered access to Italy and its financial markets, many coming through without customs inspections.
Quite literally, tens of thousands of Chinese came in through Milano (illegally) and went back out carrying money, technology and corporate secrets.
Thousands more were allowed to enter and disappeared into shadows of Milano and other manufacturing cities of Lombardy, only to surface in illegal sewing shops, producing knock-off designer clothes and slapping ‘Made In Italy’ labels on them. All with the tacit approval of the Renzi government. It was not until there was a change in the governing party in Italy that the sweatshops and the illegal entry and departure of Chinese nationals was stopped. Matteo Salvini, representing the Lega Nord party, closed Italy’s ports to immigrants and systematically began disassembling the sweatshops and deporting those in Italy illegally.
But his rise to power was short-lived. Italy is a communist country…socialism is in the national DNA. Ways were found to remove Salvini, after which the communist party, under the direction of Giuseppe Conte, reopened the ports. Immediately, thousands of unvetted, undocumented refugees from the Middle East and East Africa began pouring in again.
Access was again provided to the Chinese, under the old terms, and as a consequence thousands of Chinese, the majority from Wuhan, began arriving in Milano.
In December of last year, the first inklings of a coronavirus were noticed in Lombardy…in the Chinese neighborhoods. There is no doubt amongst senior medical officials that the virus was brought here from China.
By the end of January 2020 cases were being reported left and right. By mid-February the virus was beginning to seriously overload the Lombardy hospitals and medical clinics. They are now in a state of collapse.
The Far-Left politicians sold out and betrayed the Italian people with open border policies and social justice programs. One of the reasons the health care system collapsed so quickly is because the Renzi government (and now continued under the Conte government) redirected funds meant to sustain the medical system, to pay for the tens of thousands of immigrants brought in to Italy against the will of the Italian people.
If you remember the horrible earthquake that decimated the villages around Amatricia, in the mountains east of Rome in 2015, you would also remember how the world responded by sending millions of dollars to help those affected.
But there is a law in Italy that prevents private donations to charitable Italian organizations. All money and donations received must be turned over to a government agency, who in turn is to appropriate the funds as needed. But that agency is corrupt just as are all the others. Most of the money never reached a single victim in the mountains. The Renzi government redirected the vast majority of those funds to pay for the growing immigrant and refugee costs.
As the economy worsened under the burden of illegal immigration, compounded by gross government spending and incompetence, unemployment rose quickly…especially among young people. The unemployment rate for men and women under age 35 is close to 40%.
So more money was diverted from the health care system and used to pay what is known here as guaranteed income. Whether you work or not you are paid here, especially if you belong to the PD! The government simply raises taxes on those who do work
.Let me give you a quick example of the height of insanity to which Italian taxation has risen.
If you live in a building that has a balcony or balconies…and any of those balconies cast a shadow on the ground, you must pay a public shadow tax! I will say no more!
The point I am trying to make here is that not only did the Chinese bring the virus to Italy (and the rest of the world) it was far-Left politics and policies that facilitated it.
This should hopefully be a warning to Americans that while they work to rid themselves of the China Virus, they should just as vehemently endeavor to rid their government of any politician that circumvents the Constitution and ignores the laws of the land…plain and simple.

Lemmings (Psygnosis, Amiga, 1991)
Tumblr media
Gallup all formats individual formats chart, Computer & Video Games Issue 114, May 1991
[Elements of this post are based on sections of a previous piece I wrote on Oh No! More Lemmings.]
Tumblr media
AAA of the 1980s has been a story of computer games as a source of surging creativity in the UK, but also a story of a local audience in splendid isolation. The compromised remakes of Japanese games that made it to #1 in the UK were pretty much a one-way trade. By the end of the 1990s, British developers would be responsible for two of the world's most famous and successful games. Those games would be made to a much bigger scale. In 1991, as mainstream games got more complex, for them to be the effort of one or two individual programmers was already increasingly rare. It was a time when having the right conditions for teamwork paid off.
Tumblr media
A small team called DMA Design made Lemmings, which is not quite one of those giant British games but did sell millions and get ported to a large proportion of the world's game formats. Lemmings’ hook is inspired by the Disney-constructed idea that the rodents of the title deal with over-population by rushing off cliffs en masse. The game’s ‘lemmings’ are more human, tiny people with white skin, blue clothes and green hair who drop into each level from an undisclosed location and walk steadily forward until instructed otherwise, even if it's to their own doom. Each level has an exit back out of its world, and your task in Lemmings is to use a set of limited abilities to work out a route to get your team of charges from A to B, where sometimes B is across the C, or A and B are both in L. You can get lemmings to knock through walls, block others from moving forwards, build bridges, blow shit up, and so on, with each level giving you both a different map and a different number of each of the abilities.
Tumblr media
Once Lemmings has got through teaching you how its abilities work, it moves on fast to both using them in increasingly complicated combinations and making you think laterally about ways to use each one. The form of the appeal of this is highlighted in a mock warning on the game’s cover and title screen text scroll disclaiming responsibility for “loss of sanity, loss of hair, loss of sleep”. The suggestion is that the appeal to the player lies in their own frustration, or at least in building that frustration to the point where the relief of release from it is ecstatic. The ideal Lemmings level, perhaps, should appear initially impossible until a sudden mental breakthrough that reveals it’s really easy, followed by the realisation of a complication that renders it impossible again. And so on, perception swinging wildly but settling in on a mid-point final realisation that yes, everything is accounted for and it’s just about doable. Here is where the decision to make each level goal a percentage of lemmings safely to the exit, and often a percentage below the optimum outcome, is a particularly smart one. The slack sometimes allows a sudden realisation that you are losing lemmings to lead to an improvised solution on the fly and resultant success, and that’s another exhilarating feeling of its own.
As a logic puzzle loving, computer game playing child, when I got a brief chance to play Lemmings on a family friend’s Amiga it immediately became one of my favourite things ever. It was an unusual type of game, but it’s easy for me to see how its developers’ policy of getting as many demos of it as they could out there worked so successfully, and how Lemmings had such an impact across the UK and beyond.
There is still a statue of lemmings in Dundee, the game’s hometown. A port city on the East coast of Scotland, Dundee is something like the 50th biggest urban area in the UK and has a totally outsized place in the UK video games story. You could put it down to random happenstance that the handful of people led by Dave Jones who made up DMA Design were from Dundee. But a game like Lemmings coming from Dundee is no more complete coincidence than the procedural space exploration of Elite being the work of Cambridge maths and science students was.
Dundee was once the centre of the jute industry, making fibre for bags and ropes. As the economic viability of that dried up, many skilled (and mostly female) workers transferred to working in a new form of production at the Timex watch factory. Later on, watch sales not being what they had been, that factory diversified into making other technology. It was perfect for our old friend the ZX Spectrum. For Dundee, that meant lots of Spectrum computers available on the cheap, a low-risk chance to experiment, and other opportunities besides. And with that availability, there was an increased chance for connections and community. The Kingsway Amateur Computer Club, where many of the makers of Lemmings met, for instance. For Dave Jones in particular, the Timex connection was more direct as he worked there as a Spectrum tester. When he was made redundant, he used the money to support him and his friends in Dundee to form DMA Design and a few years later they developed Lemmings.
Tumblr media
With their own experience with home computers and with British audiences in mind, they made Lemmings for the Amiga first. DMA also drew on a recent British lineage of games led by resource management and clicking on menu options, like Supremacy and Populous (almost as crucial to Lemmings’ form as the lemming was that other rodent-derived computer item, the mouse). Lemmings was a collaboration right from the start, even the most basic animation of the tiny characters being the work of two people. Lemmings wouldn’t be the same without all of those contributions. To take one obvious example, it wouldn’t have the same warmth without Brain Johnston and Tim Wright’s familiar but copyright-avoiding soundtrack, taking “Ten Green Bottles”, “London Bridge is Falling Down” et al on a toytown funk trip. Beyond even a list of credits though, as the series of particular circumstances which brought DMA together in Dundee show, every game is the result of a whole community, providing skills and resources in the right place and right time along the way.
Even above its problem-solving, what stands out about playing Lemmings is that the same message of collaboration is integral to the game itself. So many games that I’ve played for AAA have been about the lone wolf, the highly able individual prevailing against the odds. In the Britain of the late ‘80s, perhaps it’s no surprise that messages of individualism resonated with the prevailing culture. For alternatives, we have seen sports games where you take collective charge of a group of people, and there were precedents for successful games that had you overseeing large populations, even if Populous and SimCity didn’t make it to my UK #1s list. But sports games are limited to a different kind of competitive narrative, Populous had the player as a God and SimCity as combination planner-architect-builder. You were still the one responsible for taking all of the actions. In the more radical Lemmings, you can’t create earthquakes or new electricity supply lines or do anything at the macro level. All actions must be carried out via an individual lemming. The player is but an advisor, or as Martin called the player’s role in the Lemmings post for his original AAA, “an avatar of community spirit”.
It’s not long into Lemmings before you reach situations where you need different lemmings to support each other. Two lemmings might need to be send ahead so one can turn the other around to dig their way back to the group. One lemming might need to build a staircase to put another in place to remove another obstacle. Individual lemmings take actions but afterwards they get subsumed back into the herd. You can only succeed by getting lemmings organised to work together, and they succeed or fail as a group. Each lemming that reaches the end of a level has depended on the resources of the level and the skills of other lemmings being in place along the way. Text on the title screen tells players to remember that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Tumblr media
The lack of narrative ego is striking. While as the player you are in a head-to-head battle of minds with the level designers, within the narrative world of Lemmings the player is taken out altogether. Even outside of the game itself, Lemmings welcomes further collaboration. There are tests of physical precision and speed in some levels, but with so much of test the game provides being mental, it lends itself to sharing thoughts and ideas. My best memories of playing Lemmings aren’t of playing it by myself, but of sitting with my mum and my brother and working as a team to come up with different possible solutions. Fittingly, it turns out that this was similar to the process by which DMA themselves designed the levels.
There are signs of something darker in Lemmings too, particularly in hindsight. It's in the choice it offers you each time you play a level, a more dramatic version of the deal in Dizzy that if you lose, at least the game will entertain you in the process. If you decide that you can’t complete a level, or you just get bored, you can double click the mushroom cloud icon and watch all of your lemmings explode to maximum dramatic effect, a choreographed carnival of cute violence. The lemmings’ tiny stature and outsized physical expressions, wonders done with a few pixels like the way they shrug when they finish building a staircase, encourage the player to care for them, but the player can blow them all up too.
Tumblr media
That’s only a discordant note if you don't look too closely. The game is filled with grizzly traps that kill lemmings in inventive ways, squashing or incinerating them out of nowhere. It turns out, in fact, that those animations were the origin of the whole game, the point in another project at which it became clear that the tiny animated people had the personality to stand alone. There's an irreverence and black humour very recognisable from other British culture in going on to make the cute save-the-lemmings game but still leaving the horror in there. Lurking within Lemmings is the power of a particular kind of anarchic freedom and its possibilities. DMA would go on to take the idea of just letting the player blow everything up and make Grand Theft Auto, after all.
Tumblr media
Wherever it started from as a game, though, the strongest message that comes through from Lemmings is the generous one about the importance of people working together. Without everything that community and collaboration provided along the way, Lemmings wouldn’t have been possible, just as its lemmings can only reach their goal by building on the work of many.

Is a tiny house perfect for now ?
Tumblr media
The future of the change happening in house design is bleak. The tiny house movement, an architectural and social movement that promotes smaller living quarters, is becoming more popular. As evidence, consider the nearly 2.5 million Instagram posts that contain the hashtag “tiny house,” the enormous online following, and the growing number of documentaries and TV shows about tiny homes, including the Netflix series Tiny House Nation and a series by UK architect and TV presenter George Clarke. The tiny-house sector is developing more quickly in other nations. 10,000 people are thought to reside in tiny homes in the US. Amy Turnbull, director of the American Tiny Home, said, “the tiny house movement is spreading” and “as more people support their approval, more localities will allow them.”
David Latimer is the CEO and founder of New Frontier Design, which won The Spruce 2020 awards for the best luxury tiny home builder. In his studio in Venice Beach, California, David spoke with BBC Culture. The space was simple in design, with lots of blond wood and a view of lush vegetation. The idea for Tiny House Scotland came from micro-architecture designer and builder Jonathan Avery. Tiny House Village Edinburgh, a “village” for the homeless in Scotland that opened in Granton, Edinburgh, in May 2018, is centred on Avery’s tiny house designs. The Social Bite village offers up to 20 people a low-cost, secure living space for roughly 12 to 18 months, with assistance with moving into permanent accommodation.
