TEXAS
2024 Nov 18 (Mon) – We left Tinker AFB FamCamp at 9:35 a.m.  It rained all night with warnings of severe thunderstorms and tornado watches popping in the phone.  It was raining gently when we woke this morning and even stopped while we hooked up, then started again once we were on the road.  A big storm system was moving across the plains and several tornados formed just south and east of us.  Phew!
We stopped after two hour at a WalMart shopping center.  We walked in and bought pre-made sandwiches, chips and drinks then ate them sitting in the truck.  When we got on the way again, it was only an hour or so to Shamrock where we are camped in Texas 66 RV Park.  The campground is located on a piece of the historic Route 66 highway.  Right behind our campsite there are several animals – 4 goats, 4 sheep, a cow, and a donkey.  I fed them some mini carrots.
The campsite is very squishy.  This area also got hit with the storms and there are lots of puddles and mud around.  After set up, we headed into town to get fuel.  Then we stopped at the Conoco Tower, a historic gas station and cage that the movie, Cars, was modeled after.  We then drove to the “famous” water tower, parked, and walked around the town square reading the placards about the tower.
It remained overcast with dark clouds for a long time but cleared up at sunset so that there were very few clouds in the sky.  We got a little color.

Northrop Grumman Secures $7 Billion Contract for B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber Upgrade
Northrop Grumman Systems Corp., headquartered in Palmdale, California, has been awarded a substantial $7 billion contract to modernize and sustain the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth strategic heavy bomber fleet. This indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, granted by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's B-2 Division at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, will ensure the operational effectiveness of the fleet through a range of enhancements and logistical support services until May 3, 2029. The contract underscores Northrop Grumman’s pivotal role as the sole provider for B-2 bomber maintenance and modernization. Key components of the contract include sustaining engineering, software maintenance, provision of support equipment, and programmed depot maintenance for the entire fleet. The majority of the work will take place in Palmdale, California, with additional activities conducted at Whiteman AFB, Missouri, and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

Did the 'Vark have a long-range bingo profile ?
Mini #TomcatTail - Long Range Bingo
We broke that out once for a flight from Miramar to Tinker AFB enroute to Oceana. It was about a 1,000 mile flight to Tinker and the long-range bingo profile was a max endurance AOA profile that you elevated altitude at certain aircraft weights along the way, ultimately in the low 30s.
My RIO and I estimated we'd have about 2,500 lbs at the initial, so all was good. As we run the profile for a couple hours, we get to to within 100 miles of Tinker
in the low 30s and we actually have 4,300 pounds, well over our estimate.
So we performed an idle max endurance decent and eventually go VFR (so Center/ATC wouldn't level us off). Oddly, that particular profile was called "making gas" because it SEEMED like your fuel tanks would go UP not DOWN. You were burning almost nothing. We get to the five mile initial point at 1,200 feet and whattya know, we've got 3,800 pounds of gas!! Well, Tomcat guys being Tomcat guys............
"Tower, Rage 1 request carrier break."
"Carrier break approved, Rage 1. Report abeam with gear."
Tinker had been a routine stop for Tomcats for a number of years so the tower dudes knew what a carrier break was; an 800' hard turn to downwind, vice 1,000'.......OK, maybe 600'....or a little less....fine, 400'. @TexSandlin knows.
Throttle up and get the jet to 450 kts......"Rage 1, numbers" and snap it off right over the approach end. Light the cans and go straight to 6.5 Gs a little nose up to help bleed the speed in full grunt (again, @TexSandlin knows), deselect blower, idle stop, last 20° reef HARD on the stick to bleed another 50 knots and then get the wings out, gear moving......."Rage 1 abeam, gear in transit".
Start the approach turn, gear's coming down, flaps are coming, shooting for 30 second groove length. Three in the breeze, flaps down full, on speed, and plant the get RIGHT on those nice, shiny white numbers.
And the BEST part of this flight is the World Famous Tinker Burger in their transient geedunk. EVERYONE loves a Tinker Burger!

An investigation of a U.K.-based property company's records alleges the company gave Oklahoma Air Force base one record they were making living-space repairs, while keeping another record that showed they were actually pocketing maintenance bonuses. An investigative report by Reuters, in partnership with CBS News, uncovered signs of a discrepancy between the maintenance work Balfour Beatty Communities reported to Tinker Air Force Base, and there more detailed internal records. While the U.K.-based company allegedly presented a near-perfect maintenance record to the Air Force while a true record of their work found slowness to make repairs to homes dealing with asbestos, leaks and
