I spent several hours today helping and organising the installation for tomorrow night’s opening and announcement of the Tim Olsen Drawing Prize, with equal parts excitement, boredom, and Long Covid brain fog. Tim Olsen Drawing Prize Hooray! I’ve just been nominated again for the #timolsendrawingprize at @unswada, by a different tutor. Hooray! 👨‍🎨 This video documents a #performanceart drawing developed from the previous works over the last three months. It is the culmination of an attempt to find the balancing point between #figurativeart and #abstractart (spoiler: there isn’t one). This resulted in I and the tree #drawing #portraits of each other, hence me #walking through the #landscape on top of and into the art-place. And if that messes with your head, welcome to the club. I’m honoured to have been nominated for the Tim Olsen Drawing Prize at @unswada. Woo hoo! “Long drawing” is an interference technique I developed to stop myself from being precious with mark-making, agonising that what goes into my eyes doesn’t come out of my hand. I reduced my anxiety by blending several methods that inhibit the chance of photorealism: blind contour, continuous line, multiple pens, and minimum time limits. I also discovered a serendipitous random element when my hand smudged the wet ink.
