Transfer deadline day: Who will Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham look to sign?

Will Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s £60m move to Arsenal go through before the deadline?

It promises to be another busy transfer deadline day for clubs in England – and BBC Sport will bring you all of the deals as they happen.

Premier League teams have already spent out millions this January, and Wednesday’s deals could well push total spending past the record – £225m – that was set in 2011.

Liverpool’s £75m purchase of defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton is the biggest incoming transfer in England so far this month.

But who could be on the move before Wednesday’s 23:00 GMT deadline?

One more ‘perfect’ signing for City?

Manchester City are running away with the Premier League – and are expecting a big-money arrival before the transfer window closes. They have agreed a deal for France Under-21 defender Aymeric Laporte to join for a club record £57m from Athletic Bilbao.

They are also interested in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, though it appears if that transfer goes through, the Brazilian would remain at Shakhtar until the summer.

‘Arsenal in a crazy situation’

Arsenal’s sole focus is to complete the club-record signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – but that may rely on other deals.

With a deal agreed between Arsenal and Dortmund, the deal will go through if/when Dortmund secure a replacement for the Gabon international.

It remains unclear if that replacement will be Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, but it is likely the Frenchman will depart Emirates Stadium – either on loan or permanently – to seek game time before this summer’s World Cup.

The Aubameyang transfer would leave little money available for further major signings, so unless money is recouped for Giroud the Gunners would have to wait until the summer to potentially bolster their defence and midfield.

I would be amazed if Arsenal let Giroud go to Chelsea, but if Michy Batshuayi goes to Dortmund and Chelsea cannot sign Edin Dzeko then Giroud is clearly on their list.

I’d find it weird to let Giroud go to a competitor. It’s a crazy situation. Arsenal could have signed Aubameyang in the summer and have Giroud as their ‘Plan B’ option but instead they hesitated for a long time between Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette and chose Lacazette for £53m.

Then, six months down the line, they decide that maybe that was a mistake so they are going to spend another £55m on Aubameyang, a striker with many similarities to Lacazette.

If Giroud wants to go to the World Cup he has to play, and if Arsenal have Aubameyang and Lacazette then he will surely have to leave.

Chelsea might be a busy club, with much of the focus on the fate of strikers.

The club have been trying hard to secure manager Antonio Conte extra power in attack, and the search has centred on Dzeko, Roma’s 31-year-old former Manchester City striker.

Will this prompt a move for Giroud – and would the Gunners consider selling to a rival once more? What will it all mean for Chelsea’s Belgian striker Batshuayi?

Batshuayi is wanted by both Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund, with talks ongoing with the Bundesliga side about a loan move.

Chelsea look set for success in a move for another Roma player, defender Emerson Palmieri, who is on course to join Conte’s squad for a fee which could rise to about £23m.

The departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona has shaped much of the debate around Liverpool’s January transfer strategy, but at this stage major incomings look unlikely.

It may well be about the departures of players such as Daniel Sturridge and Lazar Markovic than Liverpool parting with large chunks of the £142m they received for the Brazilian.

This may disappoint some fans but is a policy that should also be placed in context.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is not prepared to go for quick fixes, as proved by his determination to wait until the start of this month to pay £75m for Van Dijk after failing to sign him last summer.

While there is an element of risk in not strengthening, the powerful counter argument is that Liverpool are prudent to wait until the summer – when they will sign Naby Keita for £51m – to get who they really want rather than settle for second best this month.

Pochettino the perfect guy for Lucas?

For three weeks, it seemed as though Tottenham would be prepared to stand back and let everyone else join the deadline-day scramble.

Even when they were heavily linked with Bordeaux winger Malcom, no response was forthcoming.

However, with the clock ticking, Spurs made their move for Lucas Moura, who had already been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal this month.

There is still work to be done. But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not one to fail on deadline day.

Allardyce is short of options at left-back with Leighton Baines injured and Cuco Martina the current emergency option, but interest in Bristol City’s talented Joe Bryan is sure to be met with stiff resistance.

Everton’s potential business will also rely on departures and loan offers for summer buys Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez. If Everton can offload Klaassen, on high wages following his £25m move from Ajax, or Morgan Schneiderlin then that might free up room for Sevilla’s Steven Nzonzi, who was signed by Allardyce when he was Blackburn manager.

Sandro would also welcome a loan move and that may yet materialise.

Everton’s lack of goalscoring threat may mean striker Oumar Niasse survives for now, despite interest from Crystal Palace, West Brom and Brighton in this window.

The dogfight at the bottom – well, bottom half

With the 11 teams from Watford down to Swansea covered by just six points, competition for strikers is likely to be at fever pitch.

West Brom manager Alan Pardew may well have pulled off the deal of the window down at the bottom by signing Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool.

Sturridge was wanted by Newcastle and Inter Milan but it was West Brom who won the race.

There have been no bids, and the Baggies are increasingly confident the Northern Irishman will remain at The Hawthorns.

After missing out on Sturridge, Newcastle may be back in the market for a striker and have been linked with Nicolai Jorgensen from Feyenoord.

West Ham, meanwhile, have been linked with Schneiderlin, but are only willing to take the France international midfielder on loan. Hammers boss David Moyes could also be tempted into the market because of injuries and suspensions, with left-back Arthur Masuaku’s six-match ban for spitting about to start.

For the third season in succession, Swansea have spent Christmas and the New Year in the relegation zone – so the need for reinforcements is plain to see.

A paltry 15 goals from 24 games is the lowest return in the Premier League, so attacking players are a priority.

The Swans are hopeful of re-signing forward Andre Ayew from West Ham, while Serbian winger Lazar Markovic could join on loan from Liverpool.

Audacious bids to sign Atletico Madrid pair Nicolas Gaitan and Kevin Gameiro seem less likely.

Brighton and Southampton have signed forwards in recent days – Leonardo Ulloa and Guido Carrillo respectively – so may be done in that department.

Huddersfield got their business done early by signing defender Terence Kongolo from Monaco, and midfielder Alex Pritchard from Norwich. Expect that to be them done in the transfer market.

     Mettaton stands in the middle of the screen. Although it has no face, it appears to be grinning.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON AND WELCOME TO TODAYS QUIZ SHOW. TODAY'S CONTESTANT IS THE WONDERFUL ROYAL SCIENTIST DOCTOR ALPHYS! GIVE IT UP TO DOCTOR ALPHYS!"  

     The camera pans around to reveal a small reptillian creature. She's wearing an old lab coat that looks to be stained with food. She does not appear to have been expecting the camera, and she begins sweating, before panning the camera back.  

     The screen turns black.  

     When it comes back on, the same reptilian creature is seen, wearing an old dress, with a bow in her hair, that almost makes her look kawaii, if such a reptilian creature can indeed be said to look kawaii. She is still sweating, quite profusely.  

     "OHHH YES! LET'S START WITH AN EASY ONE!!"  

     What's the prize for answering correctly?  

     A) Money  

     B) Mercy  

     C) New Car  

     D) More Questions  

     The words appear on the screen in front of the nervous looking kawaii reptile. A timer is in the top part of the screen. "Uhhh... I think... D?" She flinches, as though expecting to get it wrong.  

     "RIGHT! SOUNDS LIKE YOU GET IT! HERE'S YOUR TERRIFIC PRIZE!"  

     What's the king's full name?  

     A) Lord Fluffybuns  

     B) Fuzzy Pushover  

     C) Asgore Dreemurr  

     D) Dr. Friendship  

     Dr. Alphys appears to study the questions, while the timer ticks down. "Uhh... C." She tries to smile. It doesn't look like she's very happy.  

     "CORRECT! WHAT A TERRIFIC ANSWER! ENOUGH ABOUT YOU. LET'S TALK ABOUT ME!"  

     What are robots made of?  

     A) Hopes&Dreams  

     B) Metal&Magic  

     C) Snips&Snails  

     D) Sugar&Spice  

     The reptile's smile broadens, as she starts to seem more confident in her responses. "That's definitely B."  

     "TOO EASY FOR YOU, HUH???????? HERE'S ANOTHER EASY ONE FOR YOU!"  

     Two trains, Train A, and Train B, simultaneously depart Station A and Station B. Station A, and Station B are 252.5 miles apart from each other. Train A is moving at 124.7mph towards Station B, and Train B is moving at 253.5mph towards Station A. If both trains departed at 10:00AM and it's now 10:08, how much longer until both trains pass each other?  

     A) 31.054 minutes  

     B) 16.232 minutes  

     C) 32.049 minutes

     Alphys's smile drops, as she studies the question. Sweat rolls off of her body. She no longer appears to be kawaii should a reptilian creature be said to appear to be kawaii.  

     The timer ticks down.  

     There's a look of intense concentration on Alphys's face, as she appears to be trying to calculate something.  

     "Carry the-"  

     The timer reaches 0.  

     "WRONG!!! WRONG!!! WROOOOOOOONG!! DON'T 'COUNT' ON YOUR VICTORY..."  

     How many flies are in this jar?  

     A) 54  

     B) 53  

     C) 55  

     D) 52  

     Alphys jumps as she gets shocked. She panics, and looks at the jar, which is filled with a large number of flies, which could conceivably be anywhere between 52 and 55. The timer ticks down as she tries to count them. She glances up at the timer, and jumps with a start "Uhh... A!" Alphys manages to answer, just as the timer clicks to zero. The sound of gears whirring is heard for a moment. She doesn't get shocked.  

     "CORRECT! YOU'RE SO LUCKY TODAY! LET'S PLAY MEMORY GAME."  

     What monster is this?        An image is shown which appears to be half of Froggit's face. You feel certain that Froggit must be watching somewhere, and feeling thrilled that it is on TV.  

     A) Froggit  

     B) Whimsun  

     C) Moldsmal  

     D) Mettaton  

     Alphys frowns as she looks at the question. Sweat is still pouring off of her, and she is still very much no longer kawaii, should a reptilian creature be said to appear to be kawaii. She opens her mouth, before closing it. She opens it again. "Uhh... Is it... D? Mettaton?"  

     There's another pause, the sound of gears whirring to be heard again.  

     "I'M SO FLATTERED YOU REMEMBERED!"  

     The image of half of Froggit's face zooms out, and is revealed to be Mettaton, wearing a shirt with Froggit's face. You are still certain that Froggit would be thrilled. Perhaps more so, to know that Mettaton has a shirt with its face on it.  

     "BUT CAN YOU GET THIS ONE???"  

     Would you smooch a ghost?  

     A) Heck yeah  

     B) Heck yeah  

     C) Heck yeah  

     D) Heck yeah  

     Unlike the previous questions, the counter here is going up from thirty, instead of down. Alphys appears to be understandably stumped. "Uhhh... A?"  

     "GREAT ANSWER! I LOVE IT!!!!! HERE'S A SIMPLE ONE.  

     How many letters in the name Mettaton?         After a second, another n appears, making it Mettatonn, and then another, making it Mettatonnn. The n's rapidly increase, going off the screen.  

     A) 11  

     B) 6  

     C) 8  

     D)10  

     The numbers also increase accordingly to the number of ns that have been added to Mettaton's name. Alphys sweats and looks at each answer. She wipes her brow. "Uhhh... B?" Alphys flinches, answering as the timer hits 1. She's shocked again.  

     "NO NO NO! CAN'T YOU READ!? TIME TO BREAK OUT THE BIG GUNS!!"  

     In the dating simulation video game "Mew Mew Kissy Cutie" what is Mew Mew's favourite food?  

     Alphys jumps up, sweat disappearing, and smiling brightly. She suddenly appears to be potentially kawaii again. She answers before the answers can even pop up. "OH! OH! I KNOW THIS ONE!!! IT'S SNAIL ICE CREAM!!!!!!! IN THE FOURTH CHAPTER EVERYONE GOES TO THE BEACH!!! AND SHE BUYS ICE CREAM FOR ALL OF HER FRIENDS !!!! BUT IT'S SNAIL FLAVOUR AND SHE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTS IT!!!!!!! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PARTS OF THE GAME BECAUSE IT'S ACTUALLY A VERY POWERFUL uhhh..." Alphys realises that Mettaton is staring at her. "message... about... Friendship...?"  

     "ALPHYS, ALPHYS, ALPHYS, IT'S NO FUN TO ANSWER BEFORE THE POTENTIAL ANSWERS CAN EVEN BE DISPLAYED. JUST FOR THAT, I'LL ASK A SPECIAL QUESTION, JUST FOR YOU."  

     Alphys visibly gulps, and starts sweating again.  

     Who does Dr. Alphys have a crush on?  

     A) Undyne  

     B) Asgore  

     C) The viewers  

     D) Don't know  

     Alphys's jaw drops as she reads the question. She goes bright red. She stammers, before running away, past the camera, which pushes it over, and then turns the screen black.  

     201X - 3  

     Mettaton is in the middle of what appears to be a commercial kitchen. A skeleton wearing a shirt that says        Cool Dude         on it stands next to it, grinning. Although you aren't entirely sure whether the skeleton is actually grinning, or if that's simply the way he looks because he's a skeleton.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO COOKING WITH METTATON. TODAY'S GUEST IS-"  

     "        The GREAT Papyrus! Great to be here, thank you so much for having me Mettaton.        "  

     "ONLY I AM ALLOWED TO INTRODUCE THE GUESTS. REROLL."  

     The camera goes black.  

     When it comes back on, Mettaton is in the middle of what looks to be the exact same commercial kitchen. The skeleton – the Great Papyrus – is still standing next to it. He's still grinning, though you're still unsure whether that's supposed to be a grin, or not.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO COOKING WITH METTATON. TODAY'S GUEST IS-"  

     "        The Great Papyrus!        "  

     The camera goes black again  

     When it comes back on, Mettaton is in the middle of what you're now sure is the same commercial kitchen. The skeleton is on the ground, clutching his middle – where his guts would be were he not a skeleton – and this time you're quite certain that the grin was not a happy one.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO COOKING WITH METTATON. TODAY'S GUEST IS PAPYRUS, AND WE WILL BE COOKING SPAGHETTI."  

     The camera goes black again.  

     When it comes back on, the commercial kitchen is on fire, and Mettaton is standing in the middle of it, while Papyrus is holding a plate of spaghetti.  

     "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE RAN OUT OF FILM?"  

     201X - 4  

     Mettaton is in the centre of the screen, the screens that make up what could be called its face lighting up yellow occasionally in what could almost be described as a happy way.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND NEWS. WITH ME TODAY IS OUR WONDERFUL CORRESPONDENT, SANS. SAY HELLO SANS."  

     The camera switches to one of a shorter skeleton, wearing a blue hoodie. Like the other one, you can't be sure whether his grin is from joy, or simply the form his skull takes.  

     "        Hello Sans.        "  

     "I'M THE ONE WHO MAKES THE JOKES HERE."  

     The camera goes black.  

     When it comes back on, everything is the same as before, with Mettaton in the centre of the screen. Some of its screens light up red instead of yellow, but that appears to be the only difference.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND NEWS. WITH ME TODAY IS OUR WONDERFUL CORRESPONDENT, SANS. SAY HELLO, SANS."  

     The camera switches back to the shorter skeleton. The shot is further away, revealing him to be somewhere cold. You still can't say for sure whether or not he's actually grinning, but a part of you can't help but think it's an intentional grin.  

     "        Hello, Sans.        "  

     The camera goes black.  

     When it comes back on again, Mettaton is once more in the centre of the screen. The screens on its face are flashing through red and yellow.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON, AND WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND NEWS. WITH ME TODAY IS OUR WONDERFUL CORRESPONDANT, SANS. SAY HELLO, SANS."  

     The camera switches again to the shot of the skeleton Sans, this time even further away. The skeleton appears to say something, though no sound comes through, not even the ambient sound of the snow that is falling around him. Sans lifts up an arm in what could potentially be a hello, or possibly a rude gesture, but the camera switches back to Mettaton before it can form any sort of rude gesture.  

     "SANS IS IN SNOWDIN TODAY, WHERE APPARENTLY IT'S SNOWING. HOW'S THAT SNOW LOOKING SANS?"  

     The camera switches to a very accurate snowman depiction of Papyrus. Next to it is a lump of snow, with the word        Sans         written on it.  

     The camera switches back to Mettaton, who is laughing, its red screens turning yellow again. "ISN'T THAT JUST THE TRUTH OF IT? TO ALL MY WONDERFUL VIEWERS, THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN, AND THANK YOU FOR LIKING THIS VIDEO. I HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU AT THE DEBUT OF MY NEW PLAY TOMORROW. IF NOT, I WILL SEE ALL YOU DUDES IN THE NEXT VIDEO."  

     201X - 5  

     A stage is set up. Standing on the stage is Mettaton, wearing a pink and purple dress. Lying underneath him is someone who appears to look like the Captain of the Royal Guard, or at least someone wearing Undyne's armour.  

     "OH NO! ROMEO! YOU PASSED AWAY SO SOON! YOU TOOK THE POISON THAT I LEFT OUT! HOW COULD YOU! I WAS SAVING THAT POISON! WHY DID YOU DRINK IT! NOW I'LL HAVE TO KILL YOU FOR TAKING MY POISON!"  

     Mettaton holds a giant sword over their head, that looks to be at least six times their own length, and five times as wide. Undyne – or the person wearing her Captain of the Royal Guard armour – grabs a spear that was lying next to them, and throws it at Mettaton.  

     The camera goes black.  

     201X - 6  

     Mettaton is in a small space that looks very dark. It is mostly only visible due to its screens.  

     "HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS METTATON. I KNOW THAT I AM BEING AWFULLY QUIET HERE TODAY, AND THERE'S A VERY GOOD REASON FOR THAT. TODAY IS AN INCREDIBLY EXCITING DAY. THROUGH THIS WALL RIGHT HERE IS DR. ALPHYS IS DISTRACTING A HUMAN, SO THAT I CAN JUMP OUT AND SAVE THE DAY. UNDYNE PREVIOUSLY FAUGHT THIS HUMAN VALIANTLY, THOUGH IT SEEMS THIS HUMAN IS FILLED WITH DETERMINATION. I WILL BE NEEDED TO STEP IN AND HELP SOON. BUT MY COURAGEOUS EFFORT FIGHTING AGAINST THE HUMAN ISN'T THE ONLY EXCITING THING ABOUT TODAY. NO. DR. ALPHYS HAS REVEALED THAT SHE HAS AN UPGRADE FOR ME, THAT WILL BE REVEALED LATER TODAY. JVP Netanyahu demo and Official New Friend

Wednesday. Chilled day with Y. He was working from home. I was lazing about and got snuggles during his breaks. Then I headed into SF for Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) demo protesting Trump’s meeting that day with Netanyahu and their shared values of racism, wall-building and hate-mongering. Was cool to be with other Jewish progressives, though a little disappointed there was only about 40-50 there. It was a 2 hour demo and I was only there for last bit so there might have been more attending in total as folks were coming and going. I liked the connection between zionism and to USA rhetoric and policies on migration and borders, which was expressed in chants and handmade placards.

After the demo a couple of Bay Area friends I had originally connected with from Gaza (from my trip in 2003) met me and I really enjoyed how easy and grounded in affection these relationships are. Partly I think it might be that usa (partic west coast?) culture is more emotionally demonstrative anyway, so i might just be experiencing that and feeling it as “ooo these people like me, its safe for me to open up to them too”. But regardless I’m starting to really value these other reasons for being in bay area besides Y, and this works well as both Y and I like spending time with other people too when we’re together.

I had this waffle/diner food craving, and as this was my last opportunity for it for a while, we headed to Mel’s. Mel’s is both fun, and cliched/OTT, but I’m a tourist and I kinda enjoy the OTT so I love sitting in a Happy Days set! We even used the booth side jukebox! Excitingly someone joined us who I’ve only before met with when I’ve been also meeting her partner who is an old friend of mine. We both agreed that meeting without him made us now Official Friends. She was also excited to be in SF itself, as she does the common Easy Bay resident thing of hardly ever coming over into the city.

Official Friends! And both excited by our food!

Y joined us, and then a bit later New Official Friend, Y and I decided to go for Mexican food in the Mission – hey its my last night! I’m totes allowed 2 suppers! Then we went for a wander and ended up at the top of Dolores Park enjoying the view over the city before grabbing Indian deserts on our way to the last BART back to the East Bay. For I still needed to pack and then get up at 6am for my flight home!

Bus ticket drama

At SFO I was probably over excited by the TSA dog – so cute, though it looked pretty skinny. Luckily the excitement was not reciprocated so I got through security uneventfully, though the same was not true about getting from Edinburgh airport back to Glasgow…

So I’d managed to lose my purse containing my return bus ticket and debit card at Reykjavik airport on the way out. Pop quiz: a) I did the responsible thing and phoned lost property about it as soon as i realised, or b) I procrastinated making the scary phone call and then decided I’d just see them when I transited on my way back home only to find out that the lost property office was only open at 8:30am, was after my 4am-7am transit time? Ooops! Of course I had a chain of backup plans in case my purse wasn’t even in the airport:

1) pick up return bus ticket with bank card in iceland. 2) use debit card stored in chrome to buy bus ticket online and choose sms ticket option 3) use Y’s credit card to buy bus ticket online 4) convert $20 at edin airport (and take on chin the double commission whammy of both converting a small amount and an airport booth – I just need £11:60 for the bus ticket…) 5) once am in uk and time is more respectable (i landed 9am) start calling round friends to either buy me a bus ticket online / rescue me from airport 6) hitchhike – lots of Glasgow folks use Edinburgh airport and I was due to land at peak time (9am)

Ok, fine, so I couldn’t get my bus ticket or debit card… i just drop to option 2. After all I’ve used my card online so often I never even have to look at the CVC anymore. It turns out that my memory of that 3 digits is perfect unless its 5am and I’m on dodgy airport wifi with no way to just look at the back of the goddamned card! Fine, I’ll use Y’s credit card – he’d given me one that was about to expire anyway in case options 1 or 2 fell through. Except it turns out the citylink website doesn’t accept non uk billing addresses. Argh! More time passes and I’m like, bugger this, I need coffee[0] and then realised i could get citylink tickets on megabus website too. So off I go but now I’m struggling with the verified by visa password and Y is busy.

However the coffee was def working – some more googling and it turns out you can buy bus tickets at edinburgh airport’s tourist information booth! They’re bound to accept card payments, and Y’s given me his pin so i’m sorted! There are buses at 9:30 and 10:00 and I’m desperate to just get to my own bed by this time.

[09:00] Luckily our flight lands a bit early and I race through immigration and to the booth (in post coffee alertness at Reykjavik I’d pre-memorised the route from the online airport map)

[09:15] Possibly over sharing I tell the v friendly “welcome to scotland” person that i’ve just arrived back from travel abroad and so don’t have cash yet and so want to buy the bus ticket using my credit card and am hoping to make the 09:30 bus. She says she’s going to make sure she can give me the ticket before taking my money and then has to boot the computer an go through the complex online system. “I don’t think we have to waste time filling in your phone number and email address. I’ll just tick that you refused to give them to me”

[09:18] The printer is jammed and after several minutes she gives up trying to fix the feed and goes to another machine which thank the universe spits out the ticket.

[09:23] I put Y’s credit card into their card reader, but instead of asking for the pin, it says “payment accepted. signature required” and directs me to remove the card. So she prints the receipt and asks me to sign it. I squiggle “Praveen Kumar”[1] and hand it back.

[09:24] She flicks over the card (d’oh! of course she was going to do that! i’d forgotten that was even a thing. when was last time you signed for a card payment???) and the signature panel is blank… “Do you have any other ID with you?” Me, feigning calmness but running lateness “Oh no, I don’t have an other ID with me!”

Lets recap : 1) I’ve told her I’ve just landed off an international flight. 2) As far as she’s concerned she’s addressing a white female with an English accent. 3) The card is for an American bank with an Indian male name.

“Well I think you’ve been kept waiting long enough trying to get it printed. Turn right and then right again to get to the bus stop”

I LOVE BEING BACK IN SCOTLAND!!!! And I am very appreciative that I have bucketloads of white privilege which I am benefitting from – doubt this would have been so easy had Praveen Kumar been trying to use a card with a white chick’s name on :(

Friday – Spontaneous outing to The Lost Boys at amusement park

I arrived home at about 11am. Obviously first thing I did was put the kettle on. Ah tea, now things seem more reasonable. Ok, so I’ve had maybe 6 hours sleep since Wednesday, and I should probably change my clothes, but all I need to do today is stay awake til 8ish, go to the bank to get cash out across the counter, and get a few groceries in for the weekend. Then I’ll sleep like a baby and wake up some time tomorrow, go to the LGBTQ boxing club, and my timezone should be all fixed ready for 12 hour shift on Sunday. By 4:30pm I’ve done bank and shop chores and have cash and am planning a quiet evening and then sleeeeeeeep.

And then, this being Glasgow, a friend invites me to a Glasgow Film Festival screening of The Lost Boys in a secret location, buses leaving from the GFT in 90 mins. So much for the early night plan! Accompanied by motorbikes revelling as they rev their engines to full blast we are transported to M&Ds amusement park. We bump into another friend and play on the rides opened up specially for the occasion, the park packed with excited adults in vampire/hunter dress-up squirting holy-water-pistols at each other on the big wheel and maximal audience participation through a favourite teenage movie. Much glee!

Walking home from the bus, much sleep deprived but very content with how lucky I am to come back to Glasgow, where being “cool” means showing your exuberance, participating to the max. Not sneering, but rather thrilling at and cheering on others’ dorkiness and throwing themselves into the spirit of whatever hijinks is going on.

[0] food and drink seems to feature a lot in today’s blog… To add more, as wow air doesn’t give any food on the flight I’d packed another really good picnic; hard boiled eggs, oranges, humus and veg wrap (didn’t taste good on the flight though – i know taste buds are supposed to be different on flights), smoked tofu and jerky. This time didn’t have the conveniently under 100mls water-tight containers i had last time, and the liquor store seemed confused about why i’d want a *small* bottle of alcohol (merkans and their super-sizing!) so decided to buy booze in duty-free as obvs you can carry that onto the plane. Except then I realised once aboard that i wasn’t sure if i’d be allowed to carry it onto my second flight if i took it out of the heat sealed duty free bag and opened it. so i relied on snoozing and copious pre downloaded star trek to get me through instead. I’d turned down a pal’s offer of a “medicated” jelly bean which given the TSA doggie (such cute eyes!) was lucky!

Week-End Update: January's Almost a Wrap

Geez, it seems like it was just yesterday that we were mourning the end of the holidays, but we’re already in the last few days of the first month of 2017 already. It was a fun week where we got to see some old friends and make some new ones.

Sweet little Addie, who came to us in a cast and healing from a broken leg, was finally ready for adoption and happily became a little sister to TLC alumnus Lola FKA Lois. She’s not the only one who celebrated a gotcha day this week, Amber, Blitzen (now Maulik), Boston, Copper, Duke, Jade & Tink, Jill, Laddie & Laurie were also adopted!

Back in September, our baby was in our wedding and he was PERFECT! We also did a DNA test on him (cheek swab from Mars Vet Clinic purchased through Amazon) Turns out our little guy is half Beagle, and part American Staffordshire! Along with a small mix of other breeds from different groups. It definitely explains al of his behaviors.

Remarkable how well she fits in. She met a fox up close in the yard the other day and surprised the fox. He hasn’t been back since. She chases geese and watches the deer go thru the yard.

We changed Moe’s name into Moemoe. It sounds cuter!

Moemoe is such a great boy, 8 month old and grows up to 53 lb now.

He is very smart, has learnt many tricks like sit, down, up, stand, shake hands, high five and even fake death.

He adds a lot of happiness and laughter to me and my husband. We thank your team for bringing him to our family.

Charlie (fka Stiles, adopted November 2016) is the sweetest pup ever!! He has brought so much joy to my little family and is BFF’s with his big sister Bella. Thank you TLC!

Dawn, now Maia, has adjusted beautifully! She and Raven are becoming better friends each day and Raven seems to be enjoying (or maybe just tolerating) Maia’s playful puppy behavior. We see lots of wagging tails from both of them when they interact.

Gus fits right in.

Life feels normal with him here! I almost forgot he’s so new to us. Although our day isn’t normal with the added bit of excitement and extra love/joy. Wes has made so many comments like “our dog is so mellow, aww mama I love our dog, he’s so sweet, he’s so funny, he can’t stop tickling me”, he has really taken to using commands and learning to be an alpha dog. It helps that he’s more of an alpha person than I am. And he loves having jobs.

I let Wes even hold the leash a little bit today-much earlier than I expected. But Gus really is so mellow and while he’s active he doesn’t seem to lurch.

Last night he got right into the swing-he laid by my feet while I cooked. This is good-I spend A LOT of time in the kitchen! He goes into his crate on his own. He knows where his nest is! Right now he’s asleep on the rug in the parlour while I spin yarn to knit up items for our next baby. I’m having a lovely evening with my little companion by my feet!

All has been going very Well! She is settling in nicely. The only think she barked at so far was the ice cream container on the counter. 🙂

Her first visit to the vet is this Saturday. She seems to know some commands and learns quickly. Thank you for allowing her into our family.

Ziggy (f/k/a Theodore of the Chipmunk pups) has made such a positive impact on our lives. We take him everywhere we travel from the shore to the mountains and even New York City. He loves everyone and every pet he meets, and we are so thankful for the love that he gives us everyday. Thank you so much to the entire team at TLC Rescue for bringing us together.

I have attached a photo of Ziggy watching the Chipmunk Pups video from TLC Rescue’s YouTube page. As you can see, Ziggy is ready to jump into the television and play with his brother Alvin and sister Eleanor. It is obvious that he misses them so much. Maybe he will reunite with them at a future TLC event…

Gidget’s DNA test came back and we thought everyone would be interested in what she would be. According to the wisdom panel she has four primary breeds in addition to “mixed breed”.

We renamed him Gunner. Gunner is doing well. He loves playing with the kids and running in the back yard. He had his first visit to the vet, everything looked good. He just needed to be dewormed again. Our vet recommended getting him neutered at 1 year of age since he is going to be a big boy. Other wise he is doing great sleeping the whole night in his crate.

Happy has been renamed Kimo (after our favorite Philadelphia flyers player). He is thriving and seems to be enjoying every minute of his new home. He had his first visit with his new vet on Thur 1/19. He is growing so fast, was 20lbs at his appointment. He will be going back for shots on Feb 3rd, and once more a month after that. At that last appointment for shots we will also be doing his pre-surgery check and then scheduling to have him neutered.

We are looking into 2 local puppy kindergarten classes and will be scheduling that soon since he is 10wks old now. I am confident he will do well with that, as he has been crate and potty training great and is also starting to learn to sit when told.

It’s crazy how much he has learned and changed in 2 weeks! Thank you again for such an amazing dog…he has brought so much joy and love to our family

Kiefer (we changed the spelling), is doing awesome! He is 26 pounds and is a very mild tempered dog so far. He loves walks around the neighborhood and has met many other dogs! He sleeps through the night and goes potty outside. He is a very smart dog and is already listening (for the most part). He sits, goes potty, down, wait, come and shakes hands. The vet says he is going well. The only issue we have had so far is ticks, but we put medicine on him and things seem to be good. Oh and he loves sticks!”

    We also received a nice pictures of Lexi Rose, Bear FKA Laker & Belle FKA Lydia, and Garth (Gaby’s Shep-Hound litter from September 2015) that were posted on FB and had a visit from Dory at today’s meet & greet!
