interesting time to have a get too stressed and have your body try to kill you thing going on today, ocean life and ocean ecosystem documentaries save me
#not a horse#i already ran a low fever earlier i made the mistake of glancing at the polling map and immediately felt sick sooooo#time to go watch some fish in reef ecosystems#do you want a fun fact about reefs? most are thousands upon thousands of years old!#they can be made up of shellfish or corals haha#and ancient reefs allow us to have flint and limestone and shale. which are invaluable#reefs are very valuable habitats but im more of an estuary lover#i really like to look at how fish adapt to estuarian enviorments and how such a harsh ecosystem sustains a lot of life#because estuaries are very good for spawning and pupping!#i think I'll probably be okay by next week and this flare up will end but i feel pretty bad right now

-stars - pt 3 -Ao'nung x sully!fem!reader
"she looks at you like you strung the stars, and everytime she looks at them now, she can only think of you. she loves you."

my masterlist
1.6k words!!
pt 1-, pt 2 , pt 4
playlist made for this ; â„irrefutable loveâ„ (only the fluffy parts)
angsty playlist ; if hanahaki was real

When Y/N, and the sullys first reach the reef, a boy catches her eye, and she does her best to catch his attention. She doesn't believe he likes her back, and she thinks it's ridiculous that she's so whipped for this boy. He seems to have no interest in her, and they remain what she believes, friends.
this parts lowdown-
Ao'nung shows you a place he believe you would like. You think it is time for you to give him the gift you have made for him.
warnings ( this part is kind of angsty.)
will have a happy ending btw.\
I AM SO SORRY IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO POST THIS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there was a story that you heard from your mother. there used to be another deity apart from eywa, a darker being. that eywa created everyone with four arms, four legs and two heads. That it was the happiest the na'vi had ever been. The darker being, abaraxas, it was called, was jealous. So, he split them apart. The split apart Na'vi were supposed to spend their lifetime with their other half, your soulmate. That you were supposed to spend your life searching for your other half. The lucky ones found theirs, and the unlucky ones didn't.
loving ao'nung was like riding a small dingy raft in the sea. Some days, everything's calm and sweet, the waves lapping softly at your feet, and others, you were stuck in the biggest waves you've ever seen, things going up and down but in the end, you stayed on the raft.
That day, while you rode on your skimwing beside him, your eyes couldn't help getting drawn back to him over and over again, watching how he smirked to himself and how his tail swished back and forth behind him. As if he knew you were watching him.
You really wondered where he was taking you, what he wanted to show you and why today. It was around dusk and you watched the sun set, casting him in the pretty light, watching his arm muscles flex as he held onto his ilu.
After awhile, he seems to catch you watching him, and throws a mischievous grin towards you, making you flush a deeper blue. his ilu begins to slow down, and you stop as well. You drag your eyes away from him and finally seem to notice your surroundings. He's brought you to a small island, the prettiest you've ever seen. Teeming with tropical life, and the reefs before it are filled to the brim with marine life. Two different ecosystems seeming to collaborate and strive together. He pushes himself off his ilu, and helps you down from your skimwing. The touch is electrifying, and it's everything in your power that you do to stop yourself from reacting obviously to it.
He seems to feel it too, but you tell yourself you're probably overreacting. you both wade through the water to get closer to the small island, you giggling when all the marine animals seem to follow you, and a couple of hammerbrow fish brush against your thighs, making you laugh at the ticklish sensation.
you see Ao'nung's smile out of the corner of your eye and you flush, pretending not to see it. He leads the way through the beach, through the jungle while animals all stop and watch you move. He notices this and laughs.
"what's so funny?" you ask, wondering what's made him laugh and look so happy.
he smiles, "you, you really have a funny connection with all animals." pointing out your special connection with eywa.
"i guess." You respond, not really knowing what you were expected to say. But you love the way his dimples show when he smiles, so you don't really care.
you follow him in silence while he finds his way through the island. the entire time, your head is racing with thoughts. Where is he taking you? Should you say something, or should you stay quiet? you don't know but after awhile of internal debate, you speak.
"so, how'd you find this place?" you say, out of curiosity and half out of the need to say something to fill the silence.
he hums, seeming to think. "a couple years back i was in a hunt by myself and i got tired and i needed a break and i found this place."
"why'd you want to show it to me?" you ask, hoping he's about to confess his undying love and devotion to you. 'don't think that, that's so stupid' you chastise yourself
he looks away. you stare at him confused. Finally, he responds with "i thought you'd like it, since there's so much unbothered nature here."
the small part of you that just thought he was about to confess his love for you swoons. It seems to say 'see! i told you he was in love with us.' you sigh internally and push that small part of you away.
"that's sweet, thanks." you say, looking around more and noticing how crazy this place is, with so much life surrounding you, you can feel it humming in your veins.
he looks away, seemingly indifferent to your words. He mutters something under your breath that you don't quite catch, but you don't push him.
ao'nung stops at a small log on a small hill, and once again, you need to drag your eyes away from him to catch what he wants to show you.
you let out a soft gasp, at the prettiest sight you've ever seen. The sun's setting rays are shining on the water, the green flushed forest is reflecting the light back, and everything just seems so perfect and unbelievable you genuinely ask yourself 'have i died?'
"wow, ao'nung, it's beautiful" you say smiling softly.
"it is, isn't it?" he responds, looking away and turning to you.
'this is it' you think, 'maybe i should give him the necklace now.' you thumb the little pouch at your waist, giving it a little more thought, and you think 'hell, what's the worst thing that can happen?' (worst idea of ur life )
(play if hanahaki was real (only if u want) )
you decide to push forward and hand it to him anyway, and you clear your throat.
"um, Ao'nung?" you ask, hesitantly
he hums in response
"here" you say, handing him the necklace. You finished it earlier in the day, and so it's quite good timing you think.
"what's this for?" He takes it from your hands and inspects the beads.
"well, it was kind of a token of appreciation, but at the same time, it's a way of me telling you i like you. hopefully you like me too?" you say, with bated breath for his response.
he doesn't respond immediately, but your heart in your chest is thumping wildly, thoughts rushing through your head, your tail swishing anxiously from side to side.
you're praying that everything you thought could mean that he liked you too, was actually real, and not something you've imagined all this time, so lost inside your daydream, that you confused reality with fiction.
finally, he looks back up at you, your heart soaring, before you finally process the look on his face. Eyebrows pinched tight, his lips in a thin line, and he speaks, he finally speaks.
"is there something wrong with you? what would make you think that i liked you too, that i wish to be your mate? you, a outsider in your own skin? someone who couldn't even swim? a demon child?" he smiles cruelly, and you feel tears prick at your eyes. You don't know why he's being so mean, couldn't he just have said that he didn't feel the same?
with those words, he throws the necklace you spent countless hours on for him, on the ground, stepping on it violently, crushing it with his feet.
with that, you can feel your heart shatter, and you feel a scream building up in your throat. You don't want to give him the satisfaction of seeing you cry, so you whistle, calling for avarin, your toruk. She was always following you, to make sure you were okay. she instantly swooped down, and you jumped onto her back, flying away.
'faster' you urge her, wishing to get away as fast as you can. she listens, and with a flap of her powerful wings, you fly through the air.
unbeknownst to you, ao'nung watches you fly away with a sad look in his eyes, hating that he had to do that, for the sake of his clan.
once the island is out of your sight, you let out the most guttural scream you've ever heard into the sky. Tears are streaming down your face, but there's nothing you can do.
'what did i tell you?' another small part of you says 'he'd never like you. you're a demon child, remember? half avatar.' you know to never listen to that voice. that is the voice that was made to keep people humble, to destroy them. thinking of it would only weaken you, you reminded yourself.
everything onwards passed on in a blur, suddenly you were back in your marui pod, your brothers standing around you, asking you questions that you couldn't quite hear.
at this moment, the story of soulmates came rushing back to you, as you walked further into your pod, thinking; 'i don't have a soulmate, do i?'
unknown to you, your brothers throw each other worried looks, especially when you don't respond, or even lean down to pet Ta'heyla when you see her.
"y/n?" they say, neteyam and lo'ak asking after you. this time, you finally hear them
"i'm fine" you respond, and everyone knows you're lying. Lo'ak immediately knows what happened, especially from the way you're walking, somehow. Something about younger brothers.
he runs to T'sireya, who immediately searches for her brother. he's nowhere to be found, but hours later, when you're curled up in your hammock facing away from everyone else, refusing to eat, he finally comes back.
she yells and yells at him "what is wrong with you! you hurt Y/N, why'd you lead her on like that?" , he doesn't even try to argue back, the only thought running in his head, 'i wish it didn't have to be this way.'

A still moment.
Cloud sailing slowly across the sky, sunlight and shadows. The flickering sheen of palm fronds gently shaken by the breeze. The clatter of sea air-hardened plant fibres crumpling together and rubbing like the back legs of a cricket.
Birds. So many birds.
At some point in pre-history Tracy Island had risen above the waves and created one of the rare oases of land in a sea of ocean desert and life had taken advantage of it. Birds discovered it and made it their home. Coral colonised it and built the reef his fish brother played in.
Trees, shrubs, ferns, moss, insects, an entire ecosystem unique to the Island had grown.
And eventually it had become his familyâs home.
He filtered sand grains through his fingers.
Today had been one of those days where he questioned whether it was worth it.
Of course, it was worth it.
It was his fatherâs voice in the back of his mind. A familiar timbre and surety.
He had clung to both many times, and they gave reassurance and direction.
But days like today?
They were not enough.
His father wasnât the one who had to watch a brother fall.
His father wasnât the one who had to cling to a brotherâs hand while he screamed in pain.
His father wasnât the one who had to face his family with news enough to shatter them.
Was it worth it?
He tried to answer that in the positive but the words crumbled under the weight of anguish.
John had survived.
Barely.
There was a long road ahead and it would be some time before he saw his beloved Thunderbird Five again. He was going to be hell to live with.
A hell that was heaven up against the alternative.
His sigh was like the sound of the world squashing him just a little more.
They followed their fatherâs dream. It had become their dream.
But at what cost? How much did they have to pay? When did it stop? When was enough enough?
His brothersâ eyes grew wearier every day. Alan, barely into adulthood and already aged by experience. It hurt to watch his spark dim. It hurt to see him struggling with sights and sounds he should have been protected from.
God, he wished he could protect his little brother.
Protect all of them.
The imp in the back of his mind sat down next to his father and smiled. âIâm fine, donât worry.â
He couldnât help it. He was responsible.
Wiping his hands on his pants, he stood up. His runners were full of gritty sand and the waves mocked him with their regularity.
He rubbed his face, but he couldnât scrub away the sight of John screaming.
So, he broke into a run.
His feet hit the first of the rocks leading off the beach and he leapt up and back onto the path he had deviated from earlier. Nothing was calming his heart.
The question kept surfacing.
Was it worth it?
His feet pounded amongst the gravel, as regular and as mocking as the waves below.
The view blurred.
God, he was going to stash John on Five and never let him down again.
He would love that.
Something in his heart just hurt.
His feet pounded faster.
His mindâs eye darted over familiar faces. Sadness, fear, Grandmaâs tears.
He rubbed his face again and his hand came back wet.
Goddamnit!
Scott staggered to a halt and dropped his hands to his knees, his breath coming in little more than haggard gasps as his head drooped.
Goddamnit.
How could it be possibly worth his brothersâ lives?
A hand touched his back and he flinched away.
But the hand was strong and before he knew it, he was wrapped in even stronger arms, his head drawn to a flannel shoulder, words of reassurance rumbling in his ear.
For a moment, there was just distress and tears.
âHeâs going to be okay.â Virgilâs voice was always reassuring. Always there.
Scott pulled away, straightening up and wiping his face. âI know.â
âYou did what you had to do.â
âI know.â
His younger brother was staring up at him, worry in his dark eyes. A hand reached up to grip his arm. âYou had no choice.â
âI know.â But this time it was hoarse and it hurt so much.
âJohn wouldnât have it any other way. Those children owe their lives to your decision.â
âI donât care.â
âWhat?â Worry turned to puzzlement.
âWhy is Johnâs life worth less than another.â
âIt isnât. But it is his choice.â
Scott opened his mouth, but his protest died in his throat.
Virgil picked up on it and furthered his point, his remaining hand landing on Scottâs other arm and gripping tight. âIt was his choice, Scott. It is Johnâs life to offer.â
âIt was my decision.â
Virgilâs lips thinned. âNo. Not really. He would have done it anyway.â
The image of his brother screaming taunted him again. So much pain.
And he had given his permission.
But John would have done it anyway.
Hell, Scott would have done it, if he had had the chance.
Anything to protect his brother.
To save those childrenâs lives.
Virgil drew him into a hug again and Scott wasnât sure if it was for him or for Virgil.
Likely both.
Was it worth it?
Children screaming.
John screaming.
He didnât have an answer anymore.
It just hurt.

@orcinusorca2236 asked me for some more Teleri world building! I am so sorry for how delayed this is
I have my first set here and there is more in the Teleri tag! All headcanons about language or words are mine!
-Tattoos and body paint are a semi common form of art and expression! Most are temporary and even more permanent tattoos will not last forever. Pigments come from a variety of sources but rocks and shells make up an large percentage. Symbols range from abstract patterns, sometimes meant to represent the ocean, wind or other natural phenomena to detailed landscapes painted right across the face or arms of an individual. I have my partial guide to Telerin symbols here
-Long hair is common for Telerin elves. One style involves simple twisting rather than braids, usually tied with a stretch of cloth or even grass. Complex styles that take time are usually for celebratory occasions. Pearls are often woven into the hair during weddings. These are from a custom shared with the Noldor and are primarily meant to play upon the light
-The weather of Alqualondë is mild with colder air sometimes coming from the ocean. Lizards and snakes can be seen basking upon the lower walls throughout most of the year. Tortoises live in gardens as a popular companion. They are sourced from the nearby countryside. The Telerin word for tortoise translates to rock turtle. A later word used by some translates to sun rock turtle.
-The Coast around AlqualondĂ« and the surrounding lands is long. It spreads through whatever Rayati of different climates and ecosystems. In the harbors around the city, the weather is mild but the water is cool, but there are grooves, including mangroves with warmer weather and even warmer climate. There reach a little ways inland and ïżŒare home to complex ecosystems. At least one is home to manatees. This grove is named for Ăinen.
-There are also places on the coast with warmer water and there is another small population of Teleri who live here. The waters around Tol Eressëa are also much warmer and are home to dugongs, more reefs and other tropical and subtropical life
-The lands between the Pelóri and Alqualondë are full of open woodlands, orchards and fields and groves, and salt marshes. There are hundreds of little springs, some coming down from the mountains, some originating inland. Many trickle down to the sea.
-The walls that surround Alqualondë are covered in shells and even fossils. There are three watch towers and a number of lighthouses. Prior to the Darkening, these towers primarily functioned for observation, astronomy and cartography study, rather than defense
-Casual nudity is common among the Teleri who frequently swim and walk along the beaches with little to no clothing. There are saltwater and freshwater springs in and around Alqualondë where people go to bathe, relax and enjoy companionship. These often have simple sandstone shelters built around them
- Instruction is common with mixed age groups. Natural materials and outdoor lessons make up a lot of the learning. Lessons are conveyed through stories both real and folkloric. Telerin children are also taught swimming, boats, and water safety from a young age.
-There are many families and individuals who live on their boats on the water.
-The Teleri have an extensive collection of knowledge on toxins, secretions and substances, both potent and subtle, found in mollusks, crustaceans, fish, aquatic flora, and other marine and water creatures. These are sometimes used in medicine and even crafts.
-Fishing is usually done with woven nets and handmade spears. The malicious killing of sea birds is forbidden. Telerin fishers often find strong religious significance in their trade.

Rainforests of the Sea
Let's start of this week's topic with a simple question:
If you answered "animal" then you are right!
While I was researching this topic of coral reefs, I got slightly overwhelmed because it's hard to believe that these structures are sort of created by these simple organisms, or "seemingly" simple organisms. I have the utmost respect for corals cause I think they've got us fooled.
Simplicity on the outside doesn't mean simplicity on the inside.
We think we're really evolved because we're highly complex being. We can do lots of things and we have opposing thumbs. But corals.... they've decided,
"Forget the external complexity, let's just be really sophisticated in a quiet way."
Coral reefs are immensely diverse and vital ecosystems, housing a plethora of species within a small area, surpassing other marine environments (NOAA n.d.), earning them the nickname "Rainforests of the Sea". Corals form a partnership known as symbiosis, which provides mutual benefits to both marine animals and plants (National Geographic Society 2023). Despite sharing this unique relationship, corals are classified as animals since they are not capable of producing their own food, unlike plants. Moreover, they provide a home for over 4,000 fish species, 700 coral species, and various plants and animals (Zanga, Boraski and Olendorf 2019). This biodiversity is crucial, as it fosters resilience within communities during environmental extremes and climate change (Zanga, Boraski and Olendorf 2019). Sea creatures are not the only ones who need reefs- so do people. Coral reefs are a huge benefit to the global economy, from the people who live alongside them to the people that live in the middle of a country and may never actually see a coral reef. If you eat fish, chances are, that fish may have spent some proportion of their time on a coral reef. in fact, 25% of all fish that we eat spend some proportion of their life on a coral reef (NOAA 2019). Therefore, coral reefs support economic activities such as fishing, tourism, and recreation, contributing substantially to the U.S. economy. They also act as natural barriers, protecting coastal areas, cities, and communities from ocean waves, averting potential loss of life, property damage, and erosion.
Nonetheless, coral reefs confront significant threats (NOAA n.d.). Pollution, diseases, and habitat destruction are among the challenges they face. Global threats like rising ocean temperatures and changing chemistry pose substantial risks, leading to coral bleaching, where stressed corals expel their symbiotic algae, and ocean acidification, hindering coral skeleton formation (Environmental Protection Agency 2023). Local and global factors like overfishing, coral harvesting, nutrient pollution, sedimentation, and coastal development further endanger these ecosystems. Despite their immense ecological and economic value, coral reefs are at risk from multiple fronts and require conservation efforts (Environmental Protection Agency 2023).
There's a documentary on Youtube, which I've linked below, about the rapid disappearance of coral reefs. It tells a story on how divers, photographers and scientists decided to go on an underwater journal to find out what is causing the disappearance and to share the mystery of the ocean to the world. Before watching the video, I did not anticipate feeling such strong emotions for corals but seeing the living corals before and their demise afterwards got me teary eyed a little. I feel like this really puts into perspective what we're doing to our planet. It's worth a watch.

Snorkeling with turtles is an unforgettable experience, offering a unique opportunity to observe these majestic marine creatures in their natural habitat. The Gold Coast is a prime location for this activity, boasting crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life. However, before diving in, it is essential to understand safety guidelines, ethical considerations, and the best practices to ensure an enjoyable and responsible encounter.
Understanding Marine Turtles and Their Habitat
Marine turtles are fascinating creatures that have been around for millions of years. Common species found while snorkeling include the green sea turtle, loggerhead turtle, and hawksbill turtle. These turtles thrive in warm coastal waters, coral reefs, and seagrass beds. The Gold Coast provides an excellent environment where snorkelers can witness them gliding gracefully through the ocean.
Best Locations for Snorkeling with Turtles on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is home to several incredible snorkeling spots where marine turtles are frequently sighted. Some of the top locations include:
Cook Island Aquatic Reserve â A popular site with diverse marine life, including green and hawksbill turtles.
Wave Break Island â Known for calm waters and excellent visibility, making it ideal for first-time snorkelers.
Tallebudgera Creek â Offers a sheltered environment perfect for beginners looking to explore underwater life.
Essential Gear for a Safe Experience
Proper snorkeling equipment ensures comfort, safety, and an enhanced underwater experience. Here is the essential gear needed:
Snorkel Mask â A well-fitted mask prevents leaks and fogging, offering clear visibility.

The Komodo Islands: A Glimpse Into Nature's Marvels
Established in 1980, the Komodo National Park is a preservation site primarily created to protect the Komodo dragons, which live on several islands: Komodo, Rinca, and Padar. Islands like these stand out with landscapes ranging from volcanic hills to untouched beaches. Obviously, one of the park's most recognized inhabitants is the Komodo dragons, known to be the world's largest lizards, and they can reach lengths of 10 feet with a weight exceeding 300 pounds.
It is not the dragons that make the return visitors go to this island but the natural beauty of the islands. Each destination from the pink sand beach located at Komodo Island to the captivating turquoise waters presents some kind of appeal. Snorkelling and diving in the surrounding waters open a colourful underwater world that is composed of schools of tropical fish and coral reefs with occasional manta rays.
Best Time for a Komodo Tour the best time to visit the Komodo Islands is during the dry season, which is from April to December. This period is characterized by warm and sunny weather, thus making it a perfect time for outdoor adventures like trekking, diving, and snorkelling. In addition, the dry season ensures a better view when exploring underwater and ensures a hassle-free hike across the islands.
There is availability throughout the year, however, a trip during the wet season between January to March can be more likely to experience frequent rain and humid conditions, most especially in hiking activities.
Komodo Tour Expectation
A general tour of Komodo will be a walking tour or boat tour around the islands, visiting each of the famous islands and beaches. Along with the observation of Komodo dragons, there are many other animals, including wild boars, deer, and a great variety of birds. Most tours provide the experience to trek up the top of Padar Island and see a dramatic view of the deep blue waters flanked by rugged islands.
The region presents a veritable paradise for divers and snorkelers alike for all people who have an interest in marine life. Waters of the Komodo Islands form part of the Coral Triangle, which is famous worldwide for hosting some of the world's most bio diverse marine ecosystems. Here are some opportunities for unforgettable experiences-from diving with manta rays at Manta Point to swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Kanawa Island.

Sailing Under The Wing Of The Great Frigatebird
I first decided I wanted to learn to sail when I was 10 years old. I don't even remember where the idea came from; I didn't grow up in a family of sailors. Maybe I read it in a book, and the idea of riding the wind and waves spoke deeply to a wild part of my heart.
So when I was visiting Miami on my own, I decided to book a sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and snorkeling excursion at Biscayne National Park. I'd hear that this National Park wasn't "worth visiting" because of that fact; which, looking back, is a ridiculous reason to write off an entire area of beautifully preserved ecosystem. I'm so glad I didn't listen, and instead chose to experience Biscayne as it was meant to be experienced: with water as the central theme.
When I arrived, it soon became clear that I was the only passenger booked on the sailboat that day. The captain and I eyed each other up, realizing we were two very different people, about to spend 6 hours on the water with a stranger. However, it turned out we had much more in common than either of us anticipated.
Captain Jeff told me his life story, how he'd raised a family in Pennsylvania and endured a painful relationship rife with infidelity. As it happens with situations like these (I know from personal experience) his body started revolting, which sent him in a journey of reclaiming his power. He ended up changing his entire life: leaving Pennsylvania, leaving his job and his family, moving to Florida and becoming a captain, meeting his now-wife and finally, being happy.
He shared great wisdom about relationships - with others, as well as with the self. Looking at life as a "play, not a work" - that was a central theme of our conversation.
Captain Jeff taught me how to work the lines, and read the angles of the sails to ride the wind in the direction we wanted to go. It takes finesse, and an intuitive sense of how the elements work together. With every passing moment, I knew more and more why I'd always been drawn to this art.
We braved a thunderstorm, we saw dolphins. I snorkeled near a reef wall and played with tiny, colorful schools of fish that engulfed me, dancing all around in suspended motion.
On our way back to the harbor, Captian Jeff told me a story about a special bird we were watching, soaring high in the sky. The Magnificent Frigatebird is a formidable, yet graceful, predator and scavenger. It can stay aloft for up to 6-8 weeks at a time. And this spoke to me. Perhaps I can channel some of the energy of the Magnificent Frigatebird - to stay aloft longer than others think is possible, and when I land, I'll land where I am meant to be.

I need to actively design this idiot for the au but uhhh...
Lemon Hammer Carnival au
[Carnival au belongs to @sm-baby sorry for the ping]
This gets very long winded, soooo everything's under the cut!
His level is aquatic themed, it was designed to teach kids about underwater life while also teaching them to respect the marine life and ecosystems under the water.
Pre-sentient LH was quite laid back and throws in a few marine puns if they get the chance. He does have different protocols in place for if a player tries to glitch into a fish tank, different ones activate depending on the animals. If the animals aren't endangered or harmful; you get a warning. If they are slightly endangered or harmful; you get a severe warning [aka one more mess up/rule break and you're kicked out]. And if the animals are very much endangered or harmful; you're kicked out of the room and forced to progress.
Upon gaining sentience though... they became slightly closed off from the others, preferring his alone time to care for his marine life [even if they're just AI] better. Some of the tanks in their room were made bigger to actually accommodate the needs of the animals, fish in bowls were moved to actually good tanks, sharks/stingrays were given bigger tanks to replicate their natural travel distance, and the singular coral reef was given more room to grow with more marine life added in safely.
When everybody started going mad, they specifically blocked those who he believed posed a threat to his aquarium and those they did let in were watched very carefully and HAD to stick to his rules or they'd be kicked out. When Caine and pomni eventually get round to their room, he treats them with odd kindness but very politely yet threateningly tells em to stick. to. the. rules. Or else. Upon a rule break, they chase em with a giant hammer yelling at them to GET OUT.
These are the aquarium rules: do not enter any fishtanks without permission, do not feed the endangered/dangerous marine life without proper supervision, do not sperate from your guide for too long, and finally do not enter the coral reef tank at all.

A Connection
Another SPBNR Mer AU snippet-
Summary: Ever since being thrust into the movieverse and having been turned into a mer, Nyaâs been grappling with a strange connection sheâs been feeling to the ocean. Tonight, she finally takes the time to investigate them.
This was a bad idea.
Nya knows itâs a bad idea.
But she canât help it.
The sea⊠itâs so loud, so overpowering.
Itâs calling her.
It sounds ridiculous, she knows. Sheâs heard it a million times from her teammates. Theyâve all written it off as these new mer instincts getting to her head.
But itâs not.
She knows itâs not. She knows thereâs something deeper there, some kind of⊠connection.
And so she stands out on the quiet shore in her swimsuit, far past when she should be back at the apartment asleep. The waves crashing onto the shore are the only noise that grace her ears, and the only thing she can see is the way the moonlight shimmers on the rippling tides.
She canât wait any longer.
Nya runs into the water, embracing the waves as if they were her own family as she dives under. After a few kicks of her legs, instead of pain, a rush of adrenaline comes as they push together and merge into the brown tail of a frilled shark.
Her tail.
Something about calling it her own just felt *right* in some inexplicable way. Itâs something her brother adamantly refused to do, but sheâs not her brother, Kai.
Sheâs Nya.
Itâs ironic, really, their names.
Kai means âseaâ, yet he absolutely hates it.
âNyaâ, meanwhileâŠ
âNyaâ means tenacity.
âNyaâ means purpose.
And she canât help but imagine sheâll find herâs down here below the waves.
She darts around the coral reef, going faster than she ever could imagine on land, and with far more agility as well. It feels almost as if the ocean itself is right behind her, telling her to keep going and pushing her along.
Itâs exhilarating.
The darkness of the night waters isnât even a problem! She can see as if it were still broad daylight thanks to the midnight zone-adjusted eyes of a frilled shark.
But they arenât a frilled sharkâs eyes.
Theyâre her eyes.
She giggles at the thought.
She swims around some more, gliding through the water as if flying on air, just watching the oceanâs inhabitants play their roles in the ecosystem. Nocturnal sharks hunting for food, fish hiding among the coral, anemone housing clownfish.
Itâs all so incredible, seeing a place truly untouched by humanity like this.
Suddenly, lights disrupt the darkness.
Nya flicks her tail, pushing herself up to the surface to look.
Bringing her head and shoulders above the water, she finds the source of the light to be a fishing boat.
A fishing boat that isnât supposed to be in these parts of the waters.
Her counterpart, Cyan, had explained how there are certain zones blocked out for mers and merfolk to swim in peace without disruption. A kind of safe haven away from the risks of open waters.
But here it was, a fishing boat.
Yeah, as if she was about to let these jerks have their way.
She ducks under the surface, doing her best to make as little noise as possible so as to not alert the fishers to her presence. She slowly swims through the reef, staying close to the seabed. Hoping her brown tail and dark hair will help camouflage against the dark, murky waters.
Thankfully, it seems to work, as by the time sheâs at the base of the boat, the fishers seem too busy being careless bastards to notice her.
Nya brings her caudal fin to the surface, slapping it down against the water before loudly diving under.
And, just as she suspected, one of the fishermen came over to have a look a little⊠*too* close to the edge.
Oh well, guess his mommy never told him to beware of sharks in the water.
With two powerful strokes of her fin, Nya breaches out of the water and drags the fisherman into the water with her, being sure to keep both their heads above the surface.
What? Sheâs not a monster.
âWho the fuck-â He starts to say, but Nya cuts him off.
âJust be quiet, or Iâm leaving you in a cove miles away.â She states bluntly
That was enough to shut him up.
Soon enough, the manâs two companions come to see what happened to their friend, and there, Nya is waiting for them.
âLook, I have a lot of better things to do with my night, so Iâm going to make this quick:â She glares up as the first man struggles in her arms, âyou all leave right now, or else.â
âOr else what? âYou gonna flick your fins at us?â The second fisher mocked.
Oh they are so in for it now.
Nya bears her newly sharp teeth at the two of them.
âI think your boat could use a few tweaks⊠maybe a hole in the side would look nice.â She smirks at the fishers, possibly enjoying the moment just a *tad* too much.
âPlease, like weâre letting some little merling get in the way of our jobs. Johnny, get back on board, weâve got a deadline.â The third fisher says dismissively.
The first fisher, Johnny, doesnât move, despite being ordered to.
âJohnny.â #3 says again, this time more firmly, âGet away from her and get moving.â
The man still doesnât move, instead, he seems oddly fixated on Nyaâs tail.
âWhat are you looking at?â Nya growls at him.
âSh-Shark-â Johnny weakly musters out.
The other two look at each other as #2 speaks
âWhat did he say? Because I swear he just said-â
âSH-SHAAAAARK!â Johnny screams, flailing around in Nyaâs unyielding grip.
Right. She forgot everyone in this city was a moron who see âsharkâ and immediately think âGarmadonâ. Personally, sheâs a bit offended by the notion sheâd ever work with the four-armed son of a-
âHoly sh!tâ #3 mutters as she shines a flashlight into the water below, finally getting a full look at the situation.
Ok, as infuriating as this is, she has the upper hand here. Theyâre afraid, and if thereâs anything sheâs learned from her time as Samurai X, itâs that people are a lot more willing to listen when they think youâre the bigger threat.
âSo,â Nya grins, being sure to show her teeth once more, âWhatâs it gonna be?â âL-Like hell weâll ever-â #2 begins, but is cut off once more.
âWe- Weâll go. Look, see? Iâm pulling up the anchor, just⊠please give us our guy back and donât call for backup-â #3 stutters out as she pulls up the shipâs anchor, maintaining eye contact the whole time.
Nya thinks for a moment.
She could be petty and keep her word from earlierâŠ
But itâs not the right thing to do.
She shoves Johnny away, finally letting the poor guy swim away and climb back onto the boat.
âI better not see you all around here again.â Nya scowls as the three just nod and speed off, presumably back to whatever rock they crawled out from under
She sighs.
Why do people insist on invading spaces not meant for them?
This spot is for the ocean to thrive, not for people to come along and wreck it.
Nya lets out a breath she didnât know she was holding in as she sinks back to the seabed, scanning around to make sure no damage was done before she got there. And, unfortunately, it doesnât take long to find some: A poor blacktip stuck in a net.
For people so scared of sharks, they sure seemed to have no problem hunting them.
The shark wiggles and squirms in the net as Nya approaches, grabbing the sharpest rock fragment she could find on the way over.
She puts a hand on the top of the blacktipâs snout, gently stroking it in a placating manner.
âShhhh, itâs ok, Iâm here to help.â She speaks gently, and the shark somehow seems to understand, ceasing its panicking.
Well, she didnât expect that to work.Â
Being as careful as possible, Nya starts cutting into the rope, moving as fast as she can so the shark can get back to its life uninterrupted, away from the dangers caused by invasive humans.
Heh. She thinks that as if she isnât human herself⊠well, usually human, anyway.
Within a couple of minutes of cutting, Nya is able to pull the net off of the blacktip, smiling as it circles around her, as if to say thank you. Itâs a thanks she takes with a smile as the shark swims off to re-commence its nightly hunting.
With that, sheâs alone in the waters again, left to contemplate the events that just unfolded.
Why did she just do that?
Well, yeah, it was the right thing to do, but there was something else, some kind of calling, a⊠connection.
There it is again! That word. It makes absolutely no sense but it just⊠makes sense.
She needs to know whatâs going on, it canât just be this all going to her head!
She needs to know more.
And to know more, she needs to go deeper.
Deeper⊠in the sea.
Nya stares out into the vast expanse of water just beyond the coral reef, the moonbeams shining through the navy blue water.
It feels almost like a trance of some kind. A trance she canât help but give in to.Â
And so, she swims forth into the darkness, and into the depths.
She has absolutely no idea where the hell sheâs going. Instead, the ocean leads the way.
âŠFirst Master now sheâs really wondering if sheâs just completely lost it. Maybe she should just go back, thereâs still time to make it before her brothers and the others wake up. Maybe even some time to get some proper sleep.Â
By the time the thought of turning back has solidified in her mind, Nya finds herself surrounded by pitch black, unending darkness.
Duck.
How- How long has she been swimming for?? She just got so lost in her own thoughts and the feeling of the water that- thatâŠ
Wow.
Looking up towards the surface, the faint glimmer of moonlight shines above like a lone star in the night sky. And below is a shipwreck, clearly having been down here for quite a while, given the way it looks.
Really, it looks almost as old as Destinyâs Bounty.
Forgetting all about her previous goal, Nya glides through the water and towards the wreck, completely fascinated by it.
The ocean shows no mercy, yet no favoritism either. Ships like this fall, fish get eaten, itâs all a fundamental truth of the ocean. Just⊠the way of the sea.
The way⊠of the sea.
âŠHuh, sheâd never really thought about it before, and yet this kind of⊠deep understanding feels as though itâs embedded itself into her very being.
More.
She needs to know more.
Swimming into the wreck itself, she finds it to be rather large on the inside, in the same way her home on the bounty is. Maybe this ship has a similar layout too. She looks around, finding that sheâs far from alone here, as many fish have claimed the sip as their home, and coral has begun to grow inside and out. She even spies a few cephalopods hiding themselves along the walls.
Nya canât help but stare, mouth agape in wonder at how the ocean can claim something so foreign to itself and incorporate it into its natural ecosystem so seamlessly.
She finds herself running a hand along her torso, feeling the seamless transition from skin to scales upon reaching her lower half.
It really isnât all too different, is it?
She finds herself swimming in and out of the various holes in the corridors and rooms of the wreckage, as free as a bird. The rooms themselves held interesting value as well, jewels, clothes, bedsheets, all things she considered bringing back to show the others.
But she canât.
They belong to the sea now, and in the sea they need to stay.
After all, who is she to deprive some animal of a potential new nest?
When sheâs seen all she can of the shipwreck, Nya finds a glistening underwater cave to explore. And after that, a deep sea reef, and after that a whale pod, and after that, and after that, and after thatâŠ
She finds herself exhausted, tail curled around a rock sheâs found to sit on.
What a night.
She thought she felt free when she became Samurai X, but thisâŠ
This is the most free sheâs felt in her whole life.
She canât wait to share it with her friends and brothersâŠ-
Her friends and brothers.
Oh First Master, how long has she been down here?? She was supposed to be back before sunrise so nobody would even notice she was gone!
âDamn it, damn it, damn it!â Nya shouts to nobody as she moves her exhausted tail as fast as it will take her. She has to make it up soon, Kai must be worried sick!
She swims and swims and swims, but itâs never fast enough for her, sheâs too tired, too physically exhausted, too weak to carry on.
Ugh, this is so frustrating, she was fine just a bit ago, she could keep up with those whales perfectly! So why now? Why slow down right when she needs it?? WHY-
And suddenly, a current sweeps Nya up, but it doesnât feel like any natural current.
Especially because no natural current glows blue.
Honestly? At this point she couldnât give less of a damn what it looked like, she was just happy it was helping her.
The closer she got to the surface, the more she could see the darkness fade into the orange light of dawn and the sun having just risen from under the horizon line.
Oh First Master how long-
âNya!â a muffled voice called from above
Kai?
Swimming sideways to escape the strange current, Nya brings her head and shoulders above the water once more, instinctively taking a breath of fresh, morning air, and immediately breaking into a fit of coughing after she does.
Looking to the shore, she finds her brother and the other ninja looking for her, a weight pulling on her heart as she sees the concern in Kaiâs eyes.
Nya swims over to the rocks by the tide pools, only pulling herself up when sheâs 100% sure the coast is clear of anyone other than her brother, friends, and boyfriend.
âKai!â She calls, waving a hand in the air to get his attention.
â*NYA!*â He shouts, immediately sprinting over as fast as he can, scooping up his little sister into a tight, protective hug, âWhere were you? Why are you in mer form? WHy didnât you leave a note? Why-â
âKai, Iâm ok.â she reassures, hugging her brother back, âI was just out swimming.â
âSwimming?â Cole approaches, âIn the middle of the night?â
âYeah, what about it?â
âWhat about- Nya! The ocean is dangerous and none of us know how to navigate the stupid fish form yet!â Kai worriedly states.
âBut I do!â Nya shoots back, âKai, just trust me, I had a reason.â
âReason?â He questions, but his face quickly goes to that of concern and realization, âNya, you don't mean-â
âIâm not lying, Kai.â
âI never said that! Iâm just⊠Iâm worried, Nya. What if something bad happens to you while you're chasing this âfeelingâ? Or what if your mer form starts doing something bad to you??â
âIt wonât and it wouldnât.â Nya states bluntly, unsure where her own certainty is coming from, âBesides, there was this blue current, and- and I think there really is something!â
Her brother looks a bit more convinced, but still ridden with worry, and Nya couldnât blame him. Sheâd be worried too if the shoe was on the other foot.
âŠWhich isnât exactly the most fitting idiom at the moment but itâll have to do.
âPerhaps Nya has a point, Kai.â Zane says as he stands next to his boyfriend, Cole, âYou all thought my sixth sense was strange and concerning before understanding it. Nya could be going through something similar.â
Kai finally sets his sister down on the rocks and shuffles his feet in the sand, contemplating Zaneâs words.
âI don't want her getting hurt.â He speaks, voice full of worry.
âAnd she wonât. Nyaâs tough, Kai, and sheâs got all of us for backup!â Cole reassures, âRight, Sharky?â
He really couldnât hold off on the nicknames, could he?
âRight.â she nods in agreeance with Cole, âIâll be fi-â
Suddenly, a small, green force crashes into Nyaâs lower torso, quickly followed by a blue blur in front of her face. Theyâre both talking, but itâs over each other, so she canât tell what either are saying.
At least not before Cole picks up Jay by the collar of his shirt and drags him away from his (Jayâs) girlfriend to let Lloyd have his sibling moment.
The little squirt is too stubborn to say anything directly, but Nya gets the sentiment.
Jay, on the other hand, is talking a mile a minute, only calming down when Nya raises her voice over him and shows him that sheâs uninjured. She appreciates the thought, but First Master Jay gets anxious.
âNow that Zaptrapâs finally shut his mouth, we need to get Nya to one of those dryer-things Red was talking about and get out of here before people start piling in and someone sees us.â Cole steps forward, ever the leader.
Kai nods, picking up his sister in the same way one would hold a small child, doing his best to keep her away from his legs, given that sheâs still soaking wet.
Even so, itâs comforting.
Nya watches as the ocean becomes more and more distant, the once overpowering roars of the waves becoming nothing more than a distant echo.
She missed it already.
But itâll still be there⊠tonight.

But your eyes were so big when you asked⊠fine. Heâll find something worthwhile that isnât going to get you killed
Prep for the trip is Lucifer covering you in about 50 different protection spells.Â
Then youâll be flying. Hold on tightly and try not to look directly into the wind. Thatâs not good for your human eyes. Luciferâs arms are firm around you as his wings stretch out. With a push youâre off. Being lifted from the ground purely from the strength of his wings? Itâs an undescribable feeling.Â
Soon you are out of the Devildom and flying above the Hell Wilds. A vast landscape of all sorts of terrors. From red grasses that could cut through bone, or the vast tar fields that bubble toxic gas. There is a beauty to it. Especially if you are safe above it all.
A large canyon comes into sight. âThis canyon was cut by Lotanâs first rampage, and where Levi made Lotan his pet.â Lucifer begins to descend. Swooping down in a tight spiral to slip into the canyon.Â
It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. Then you can see something glowing. Many somethings glowing. They crawl over the canyon sides. They are nothing like youâve seen before, but if you were to pin down to something earth like⊠they are most similar to sea slugs? But they have legs and bright, piercing eyes. With beautiful fins running down their back. Each looks to be a droplet of a rainbow.Â
âGems left in the earth can collect enough magic to come to life.â They have no name, but they could fit in the palm of your hand. Tho please donât touch they are highly condensed magical creatures and could shred your human body without meaning too.
Mammon
âCan I trust you?â He looks at you with surprising serious. Though heâs scratching his chin which makes it a little hard to take him seriously. When you say Of Course, Mammon quickly cracks into a grin. âAlright, give me a day, but-â He just starts nodding and runs off. Delighted with his own idea too much to tell you more
The Next day you meet Mammon outside the house of lamentation. He is already in his demon form and has a large sack in his hands. Which appears to be full of weird trinkets and a whole lot of grimm.Â
Where are you going? The Hell Wilds. Which is⊠so unhelpful because the Hell wilds are nearly infinite.Â
Mammon scoops you up bridle style, and then youâre off into the air. Mammon cannot stop smiling, âI havenât taken anyone here before.â He mainly says this too himself. But looks at you with so much delighted you canât help but blush.Â
This would be a much longer flight if Mammon wasnât so good at using the air currents to his advantage. Diving to catch the updraft that send you both rocketing through the air. Youâre at not risk of danger. Mammon wouldnât let that happen to you, but it does feel like a roller coaster. When you level out, youâre facing a dark mountain. It cuts into the air with jagged certainty. Mammon lands halfway up its sides.Â
âShe doesnât like it when I fly into the nest. So weâll have to walk to the rest.â If you ask any questions about what is happening. His response is a grin. âYou know how Crows and I get along? Well⊠this is where that started.â
The mountain is only partial rock. The rest is ash, twigs and mud stuck together to keep the mountain from falling apart. Crows and ravens sit perched along the cliff sides. Some crows come flying to the mountain with fresh mud to repair parts of the mountain. The dark birds watch you and Mammon with intense, unrelenting eyes. Mammon smiles to them, and carries on with ease.Â
The path winds up to a crack in the side of the mountain. Mammon gestures for you to wait outside while he walks in first. You can hear something massive stir. The rustle of feathers and the scratch of claws against stone. Then Mammon pokes his head out and beckons you in.
Curled within the mountain is a great beast. Itâs hard to tell one part from another because she is massive, and her dark feathers blend into each other. Her head is stuffed into the bag Mammon brought. When she sits up, she has a golden cup in her maw. The Crow Drake is stunning and terrifying. Her eyes are molten red, and her teeth cut through the gold.Â
The Crow Drake is the matriarch from all the crows and ravens in Hell. When Mammon was young, he fled to this mountain and was given a drakeâs comforts. As well as his first crow familiar.Â
She reaches up to get a good look at you. Her beak pressing against you. Nudging you around and bringing her eyes right up to yours. Then she sits back and let's out a satisfied sqwaks. Mammon is about to say something when the Crow Drake leans over and picks him up by the collar of his jacket. Mammon is plopped onto her soft back, and she begins preening his hair. Making little noises every once in a while. âI know I used too much conditioner, stop harassing meâ Mammon is blushing fiercely.Â
Levi
âGah! Why canât Lotan be more gentle.â Levi really wants you to meet Lotan, but itâs highly likely that Lotan would try to kill you the moment you met. All the photos of Lotan have been just⊠blue scales, or a big eyeball.Â
But Lotan is one of many Sea serpents. Actually, there are all sorts of magical creatures in the sea, and Levi is going to tell you about All of them. While he tries to figure out how to make sure you can breathe underwater.Â
âI am not allowed near the merfolk palace though, so... Canât take you there.â If pushed on the matter, he will turn red and stammer about how Lotan just wanted a snack.Â
He found a spell! Heâll need Solomonâs help, but it should give you 24 hours of breathing underwater. Now itâs time to go into his tank.Â
Did you assume that he just had a normal wall sized fish tank? Of course not. The back wall has been turned into a convenient portal to The Ocean. Itâs not an earth ocean, and hell doesnât actually have a lot of clean water. This Ocean is an in between realm that connects to the abstract of earthâs waters, and all the magic that one could possibly find in those depths.Â
At first Levi gets distracted showing you all the fish. Look at the coral! And the trigger Fish! Oh, what a pretty anemone. Heâs so caught up in showing you around that heâs not even embarrassed to be holding your hand the whole time.
Levi is such a strong swimmer he barely even notices dragging you along with him. His tail easily propels you both forward, and with great agility he can swim through the coral reefs. Then you hit the edge. Suddenly there is a vast nothing below you. Light fades below.Â
Down you go! It would be more unsettling if you didnât have leviathan right besides you. Who is practically vibrating with his excitement. Underwater Levi looks so much more comfortable. Moving with such ease and without any hesitation.
You can feel the water begin to shift as something Massive approaches. Levi pauses and let's out a trill. Which is met by a deep noise that rattles your bones.Â
Red is a hard color to see in the deep ocean. Not enough light in that wave length can reach that far down. So at first itâs just a dark dot in the distances. Then itâs brilliant red head comes surging towards you. The water rushes around as the sea serpent begins to swim in a spiral around you and Leviathan. Leviathan is beaming and spinning around to keep up with the Serpentâs face. Letting out happy trills sporadically.Â
Eventually the Sea Serpent settles down and lets its body relax out. The Serpent stretches out so far that itâs back fines look so small. Yet their face is larger than a bus. The Serpent looks at you for a long while, and then it flicks it head upward. Which makes Leviathan blush a vibrant red.Â
She approves
Satan
Satan needs two weeks to prepare! But he has an idea. How do you feel about sewers?
âThe Devildom aqueducts are actually one of the cleanest places in hell. Itâs really an astounding work of engineering-â he goes on for a while about all the intricate workings. Seems there is a lot of plant filtering the waters, as well as creatures that can digest what the plants canât process.Â
Satan gives you one of his books of magic. âI am their friend, but if you want them to accept your presence, itâs best to provide a gift. To show you mean well.â Unlike the others, Satan will give you a heads-up on whom youâre about to meet. Though, he gives the explanation as youâre walking towards the sewerâs entrance.Â
âTheir name is Elos, and they are one of the oldest chimeraâs alive. They were created in less than stellar circumstances, but handled it rather well.â By eating their creator. âNow they used the leftover alchemical equipment to do their own studying, as well as keep the aqueduct ecosystem in balance.â
The entrance looks like any other sewer grate in a city. Satan can easily move the heavy cover off, and watches as you begin to climb down the ladder. Satan closes the cover as he starts his descent. The sewers are Massive. The tunnel is about 20 feet wide and 20 tall. A perfect circle, except for the walk ways going along the side. A sort of seaweed is growing at the bottom of the waterways. Little fish duck in and out of the waving reeds. Further in more plants grow along the side. Some areas have full banks that cover the waterways. You can also see long claw marks running along the sides of the tunnel. As well as the residue of a recent magical explosion. âHmm, looks like Elos got annoying company.â Satan smirks at the blast marks.Â
One of the original designers of the sewers was the grand wizard who made Elos. So there is a laboratory at the dead center of the sewer system. If one were to look at the blueprints, youâd be able to see a magic circle drawn by the tunnels. Well almost one. Those plans were later worked over to fix the functionality of the sewer system for the devildom. Elos didnât want to do any city wide magic, so they arenât really upset about it.Â
Outside of Elosâs laboratory is a large blue door. Painted on it are bright yellow runes that start to shimmer green as Satan approaches. Satan knocks, and itâs a full three minutes before the sound of the door unlocking. With effort, it swings inwards, and the smell of chemicals and herbs assaults your nostrils.Â
Satan goes about the polite introduction. Leading you into the laboratory, but itâs hard to pay attention. There are so many strange machines littered across the room, and Elos themself is a feat to understand. Their face is divided into three parts, one of a bull, one of a woman, and the other of an ape. They have large arms with hands that drag across the floor. Their fingers are thin claws of a bird. Chest comes from some great lizard not from earth. Hide legs appear to be lion like, and its tail is an arched scorpion stinger. Elos looks at you with deep eyes.Â
When you present the spell book Satan gave you. Elos sneers at you but takes the book. âA gift provided from someone else is weaker⊠but will do.â her voice is a dry and raspy. Speaking with vocal cords never crafted for such intricate language.Â
Asmodeous
âWant to meet some of the lovelies that help me torment souls?!â Â
Theyâre the creature Asmodeous has easy access to, so I recommend saying yes if you want to go with him
âTheyâre for a very specific time of person. The sort who think their beauty makes up for all the harm they caused.â A dark look smolders in Asmoâs eyes, but when he looks at you, it softens. Back to his normal bright heart eyes.Â
Asmo summons a cab to drive you both to the outskirts of the devildom. To⊠a ranch? Soft green meadows stretch out as far as you can see. Wooden fences mark the edge of the road. When you look close, you can see sigils carved into the posts.Â
Out in the field you can see them. Powerful horses with glimmering spiraled horns. Some are pure white with long wavy mains, but they are as diverse as any herd of horses.Â
âMy beautiful unicorns,â Asmo leans over the fences to get a better look at them. âYouâll get to have a closer look at those in the stables right now. They wonât be too happy about being locked up, but theyâre so wonderful just to look at.â
These unicorns come from more of a⊠vicious tradition. Their diets are completely carnivorous and with a strong preference for humans.Â
While you enter the stables, Asmo explains that these stables are more for necessary check-ups, and not where the unicorns stayed. They had their own dens somewhere in the meadows. Asmo hadnât cared to find it, but it is out there.Â
So the unicorns that are in are here to have a thorough cleaning by one of the stable works. No you cannot help Iâm afraid. These Unicorns would not be able to tell you apart from the souls they are encouraged to feast upon. All the other folk who work at the stable are non-human, and they still get bite. Whatâs worse is when a Unicorn decided to charge.Â
To make sure none of that happens, youâll be safely on the other side of the door. Even though you canât get close. You still can see the Unicorns very well. They are beautiful creatures. The shortest is still taller than the average horses. With eyes set more forward on their skull, and sharp angular bodies. Their legs are less brittle. With hooves that are divined into three sharp angles.Â
While most of the unicorns with in the stable seem antsy to leave. They all give their own greeting to Asmo. A dappled gray is the most affectionate. Letting Asmo pet the sides of their face, and rubbing up against Asmoâs head. It looks at you with curiosity. Sniffs the air and whinnies. âI know,â Asmo coos. âThey are very tasty looking, but you canât have any. I want this human to stick around.â The Unicorn snorts and flicks it tail in annoyance.
Beelzebub
His eyes light up when you ask to meet some magical creatures. âWe wonât have to go too far⊠but we should wait till the house is quiet.â Que Mammon sprinting through the hallways trying to out run Lucifer. âThey donât like the ruckus.â
Beel asks you to meet him in the kitchen once everyone else has gone to their rooms. When you enter you find him setting out a tray with a dish of milk, honey, and some crackers. He then hands you a block of cheese. âCut up some cubes of this.â and so you do. Beel doesnât take any food from the tray, but he does rummage in the fridge while you get the cheese ready.Â
Once itâs all ready, Beel sets the tray in the middle of the counter. He then pulls out a little golden bell, and rings it. There is a beat of silence, and then doors you had never seen before open. One door is tucked into the wall trim, another in the backspace, and a third underneath the cabinets. Who comes tumbling out are small fuzzy creatures. They walk on their hind legs, and have large flat faces. Almost like a bat, but their eyes are old and wise. They are dressed in hand stitched clothes made from old table clothes, towels, or other scraps of fabric they could steal without much fuss.Â
âWho is this?!â One of them points pocket knife at you. âMy friend,â Beel says and when he looks at you he canât help but smile. âHmm⊠did your friend cut this cheese?â Beel nods. âNext time make them smaller. Our children will struggle to hold these.â
These are House Brownies. A type of fae that can be found in most loving homes. They are a people of high standards but with over whelming big hearts. Beel is the main reason the house brownies live within the house of lamentation. No one else remembers to set out food for them. So no one else gets the help of the Brownies. Beel however often finds that his chores have been done for him, and snacks are often left on his bed side table. Small snack since the brownies canât carry too much, but he deeply appreciates it.Â
Brownies are some of the easiest fae to talk with. The worst you can do is hurt their pride, but they are quick to accept earnest apologies. Not the sort of fae who will steal your name and trick you into dancing yourself to death⊠well⊠There have been a couple brownies who have done that. But the people were true assholes.Â
One of the brownies who is dress in a floral dress comes up to you. They give you a once over, and then start to climb up the back of your shirt. Now on your shoulder, the Brownie sniffs your face and pokes your cheeks. The Brownieâs whiskers tickle, and itâs hard not to react. But their fur is so soft, and they smell like honey and clove.Â
âYou should have brought this one sooner.â The floral Brownie says in a sing-song voice. âThey can bring us human snacks, yes?â âI want a candy!â Another brownie cheers. âAre human homes as noisy as demon homes?â âWhat is a cat? We hear the mean one speak of them, but never have seen them.â âIs cat friend or foe to the brownie?â Another brownie is now climbing you. This one decided to perch on the top of your head. âHuman smells nice. Keep them Beel.â
Belphegor
âOkay, but youâre paying for their snacks.â
Which turned out to be nearly ten pounds of red meat. Youâre also the one who has to carry the bag as you walk into the properly sketchy parts of the Devildom city. Belphegor looks as nonchalant as normal. Except for when he needs to glare at any other Demon who might start making eyes at you.Â
Now itâs into the dark alleys you go. Winding past business and into tight brick alley ways. The surrounding buildings seem to tower up through the sky. Blocking the darkness above. There is even a hint of sulfur in the air.Â
âAlright, set the meat down.â Belphegor stops at the intersection of four alley ways. It makes a small circle in the middle. The ground is dark and stained from years of murk. Moss grows up the walls, and blooms in the cracks. You set the meat down and then back up next to Belphegor. âAre you nervous?â He grins a little and then brings his fingers to his lips and whistles Loud.Â
You can hear them running. Many heavy feet charging down the paths. Theyâre coming from every direction, and now hear their panting breath. Growling and snarls as they try to be the first to reach their meal.Â
If you thought earthly wolves are big. You are blown away by the size of hellhounds. They keep their heads low but still stand at least three feet tall. Their teeth are as black as their fur, and they have barbed tails that whip back and forth in a frenzy. The Hell hounds are at first completely distracted by the food left out for them.Â
âWhen theyâre not hungry, theyâre really sweet.â Belphegor crosses his arms and leans back against the wall. Patiently waiting for the Hell Hounds to calm down. âTheyâre in the city to hunt down pests. Lucifer seeâs them as exterminators,â One of the Hell Hounds now trots over to Belphegor. It rams its head into his stomach, demanding attention. Belphie laughs a little and starts to scratch its ears. Now content that itâs getting love. The Hell Hound eyes you. First a sniff, and then it tries to bite your clothes. âHey,â Belphie says in a stern voice, and thatâs all the Hound needed. Youâre not food? Well then you must be friend too.Â
The message is spread through the rest of the pack, and soon you are surrounded. The Hell Hounds breath is rancid, and they will not stop trying to give you kisses.Â
Two of the hounds manage to get Belphie on the ground, and sit on top of him. Belphieâs face is flushed, and he only tries to get them off half-heartedly. Then accepts their cuddles and closes his eyes. âTheyâre not allowed in the house. So I come here a lot⊠you can join me next time if you want.â

Can you talk abt tide man? I love them
(If you havenât talked about them already)
i love him too so i can absolutely talk about him!! tide man infodump under the cut
tide man is an aquatic robot master who works in coral reefs! he's more or less an undersea janitor, hauling garbage or debris that's damaging the ecosystem back to shore. he also monitors the health of the coral and resident marine life, and helps with efforts to cut down on pollution and improve the water quality of the ocean. he lives in queensland, australia, where he's part of a massive ongoing effort to clean up the great barrier reef, but he's been called out to help with other coral reefs all over the world. he's based on the unused concepts for ocean man both in-universe and in real life, the same way vesper woman is based on the concept art for honey woman, and he was redesigned and built by dr. astil! unless archie mega man returns from the dead and gives the number to someone else, his official serial number is DAN-002
he's very easily stressed, even by small things, and his perfectionist tendencies only make this worse. he often places unrealistically high expectations on himself due to the [largely incorrect] assumption that, as a robot master initially designed by dr. light himself, they're the expectations that everyone around him also has. because of the unnecessary pressure he puts on himself, he's chronically anxious and prone to panic attacks, and struggles with depression and very low self-esteem. he has a short temper and tends to shout at people when he's freaking out, but he tries really hard to keep this in check and quickly apologises to anyone he upsets. once he's had some time to calm down, he's polite and good at working with others, if a little socially awkward. life isn't easy for tide but he's trying his best
despite the stress it causes him, tide is committed to his job and takes it Very Seriously. while it's partially due to his desire to be seen as competent and valuable and deserving of praise, his dedication mostly stems from a genuine love of the reefs he watches over. he has a high level of empathy for nature, especially sea life, and feels he has a responsibility to protect it. because of this, he's very conscious about things like recycling and treating natural environments with respect. he's appeared in a handful of psas about recycling and keeping the beach clean and not littering and all that to help raise public awareness about taking care of the environment. nothing angers him more than senseless littering, and he has a particularly seething hatred for plastic waste due to the damage it causes to ocean ecosystems
like many water-themed robot masters before him, tide is more suited to moving underwater than on land. his body is much denser than it looks, allowing him to sink to and walk along the ocean floor without assistance, but not so heavy as to impede his swimming speed or agility. he usually moves very slowly so that he doesn't accidentally break any coral or scare any marine life. the harpoon gun on his left arm is mostly used to pull up particularly large pieces of debris - he's permitted to use it for self-defence if he absolutely has to, but so far he's never fallen into such a situation. his weight and lack of a left hand make him clumsy above water, but the caution he takes while moving helps to alleviate this somewhat
tide absolutely loves animals, especially the sea life he interacts with on a daily basis. he tries his best not to give them attention and risk disrupting their behaviour patterns, but a lot of the fish and other animals in the great barrier reef recognise him as nonthreatening by now and will come up to him or swim alongside him of their own accord. being around animals calms him down, and if he's having a panic attack he can usually bring himself out of it by going to the beach and chilling with some seagulls or fish for a while. usually if he isn't busy he'll just sink gently to the bottom of the ocean and watch all the sea life swim past and get lost in that for a while. his absolute favourite animals are sea turtles! he loves the way they look and move and finds their social patterns fascinating. he couldn't choose a favourite species if he tried, though. don't ask him. he will get decision paralysis and he will cry
when he gets his laws of robotics surgically removed, tide man forces every human and man-made influence on basically the entire coast of queensland out of the ocean with the threat of gratuitous robot violence, then goes to sit at the bottom of the reef and scowl and occasionally vent his frustrations with incredible destructive force at any ships unlucky enough to still be floating through the area [then spend a few hours cleaning up the mess he made]. it's unclear how this gets wily any closer to world domination, but at least it gives tide something to do with his pent up frustration. the pressure of having to take over the entire world dials up his stress responses even further, shortening his temper from irritable to outright explosive. he sometimes tries to take charge of the group or set an example for his fellow robot masters, but in practice he isn't nearly intimidating enough to give anything stronger than a suggestion
his stage begins with a scramble through the robot-infested wreckage of a ship he took out his anger on, then once you reach the end and jump out it becomes the obligatory water level. there's a lot of downward movement in the second part as you travel deeper and deeper into the reef to find him. naturally his stage has plenty of thematically appropriate hazards - shards of coral as spikes, bubbles as temporary platforms, robots based on all his favourite marine animals, the works. in true tourist-in-australia fashion rock teleports in and immediately gets swooped by 40+ seagulls
tide is weak to sleet foot because he isn't well equipped to handle the cold. he was built under the assumption that he wouldn't ever encounter freezing temperatures, since he lives in queensland [one of australia's warmest states] and coral reefs only form in warm waters. when he gets cold, his movement becomes stiff and even slower, and if ice crystals manage to form in or around his joints they can quickly and completely incapacitate him. sleet foot being a low kick also gives him trouble, since his body's density means it takes some time for him to get up if he's knocked over
designing tide was interesting since i was actually referencing canon mega man designs instead of just making stuff up. in addition to basing him on ocean man's concept art, i also took a lot of design cues from plant man, since he's the only other robot master canonically built by dr. astil so i thought it'd be nice if they had some design elements in common! it's probably because of this heavy referencing that he arguably looks the most like a 'real' robot master in terms of design. [i don't think that by itself makes him a better or worse character design, it's just something interesting i noticed!] i'm particularly proud of taking the pattern on ocean man's helmet and turning it into the coral-like decal that tide has on his, even if it's a bit of a nightmare to draw lmao
due to sharing a creator, he and plant man consider each other brothers! their work doesn't overlap what with them being in different countries most of the time, but whenever they both have time off they take the opportunity to catch up and talk about how things are going. having each other there really helps them both with their depression [one day dr. astil will finally make a robot who isn't chronically sad], and while he's too shy to admit it tide really looks up to plant and is kind of awestruck by him. this is objectively a bad idea because plant is an emotional disaster, but tide is a baby sibling so he's too busy thinking his big brother is cool and awesome to notice
i think that's a good place to wrap up the tide man post, thank you so much for asking about him! as always here's the unfiltered and transparent versions of his art
#thank you moth my cool mutual moth for asking about my boy!!#zos draws#mega man#mega man oc#robot master oc#tide man#zoriginal characters#zos talks#zos answers#ghoul--doodle#god it's so late but i didn't wanna delay this another day because i'm really happy with his art hsjnfkbjn
