season 6 (controversially my fav season): once more with feeling (one of my top albums on spotify), tabula rasa (it has my whole heart especially the end..), older and far away (i find it silly as well), hell's bells (bc it makes me cry), entropy (soleley for the ending which i wrote a fanfic on hehe), seeing red (bc it makes me cry again :( )

season 7: selfless (for the anya content <3), him (silly), conversations with dead people (very well written esp willow's storyline), storyteller (bc we love andrew), chosen (bc its a very good finale imo)

What made you ship it?

AHHH their romantic tension & sweet moments in season 4 are everything to me!! I remember watching for the first time & thinking that I felt some sexual / romantic tension between them but I assumed it would never be canon because that would be crazy lol! Then I was SOOO exciteded when they actually went there! And they're so sweet together. "I am you know? Yours" gets me EVERY time <33

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I just love their chemistry. Actually, both because I love drama & because there are some fun parts, Tabula Rasa is one of my fave Tillow episodes because I adore the little moments between them when they don't have their memories. I feel like they were soul mates, & the way they feel about each other just shines through in every scene between them thanks to Alyson & Amber's acting <3

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hm........I feel like a lot of people dislike the season 6 drama (NOT talking about Tara's death, talking specifically about the drama over magic use) but personally, I love it. There are aspects that could've been written a little better but over all, the drama makes sense & is fun & leads to some great episodes with intriguing conflict

Why don't you ship it?

I'm really nervous to answer this because I don't want to make people mad haha so if you're a Bangel fan, scroll past, this isn't for you. Personally I don't like when people argue in fandom I think people are entitled to their own shipping opinions but I'm always worried I'm gonna start a fight so I don't say much against loved characters but since you asked haha... I have multiple reasons but to name a couple: I'm not a huge Angel fan, I don't like the start of Angel's redemption arc being tied to a (very young) Buffy that he fell in love with at first sight, I feel that Angel is the one with age and experience and knows them being together is a bad idea and still lets it happen, and I feel that Angel treats Buffy like a child and is always making decisions for her rather than with her.

What would have made you like it?

If they weren't trying to get together randomly throughout season 3 when they knew it couldn't work, Angel's one moment of true happiness not being tied to sex with Buffy (personally I think she deserves better than someone who is only ever truly happy with her when they're sleeping together), if they could interact in later seasons without arguing or kissing even though they know it's a bad choice and they're involved/in love with other people, and honestly just...I'm not the biggest Angel fan so changing parts of his character haha??

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

So whenever I do a rewatch, in seasons 1-2 I do enjoy the Buffy/Angel plot line and I wish it could have worked for them, but beyond that I don't ship them. What I really want is for Buffy to be happy and if she could manage that with Angel, that's good enough for me. I think they're a sweet first love story but beyond that, they're not my favorite. No hate to anyone who likes them it's just not my thing!

Tara + Willow

What made you ship it?

So I started watching Buffy for stage combat class, got hooked on the plot, and happened upon Tillow completely by accident. As a closeted genderfluid lesbian who had been raised by religious parents who sent me to Catholic school for 13 years, this was the first time I stumbled across something queer without having to actively seek it out in secret. I'd seen other sapphic couples in media before, but I'd had to look for them. I wasn't expecting to discover it being treated as normal in a 90's show about vampires. I was so pleasantly surprised and very quickly became obsessed.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I love the way the show handles the relationship in seasons 4-5 (ignoring season 6 haha...) I love that despite a slight learning curve when Willow comes out, she's met with pretty solid support from the rest of the Scoobies. And I love that their first onscreen kiss was placed in The Body, so it wasn't the focus of the episode or treated like a crazy big deal. They got to be as natural and normal as the straight couples :)

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

So when I first watched the show, Willow was one of my favorite characters. Recently, however, on my latest rewatch I'm having trouble stomaching her treatment of Tara through her magic addiction with the memory wipe spells. I really wish more time had been taken onscreen for Willow to actually have to own up to the harm she had inflicted on Tara, and I wish they hadn't gotten back together so quickly. So I guess my opinion is that I wish they had spent longer apart, so Willow could get over that magic addiction plot line, Tara had time to heal, and so Tara weren't in the house in Seeing Red and could've survived. Not sure if that's unpopular but I haven't seen it said much before haha. My other unpopular opinion I guess is while I was obsessed with them when I first watched the show, they're no longer one of my favorite ships. I still love them, but I rarely seek out Tillow content anymore.

Giles + Jenny

What made you ship it?

Basically the first time they interacted I was into it. I love them both!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I haven't spent a ton of time thinking about this ship so pls don't hate me if this is an incorrect read but to me they're a straight couple that flips gender roles on its head. Jenny very much wears the pants in the relationship so to speak and I love that. I also love how easily and joyfully she messes with Giles, and how flustered he gets. They're so smitten with each other!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I don't think so!

Which really loved/hyped Buffyverse characters, ships and episodes do you just not like very much, or at least like less than most fans seem to?! And remember that you really are so valued and cared for here - reading your stuff is one of the best parts of my day!

Cordelia - More so on AtS than BtVS, I think;

Buffy;

Faith - Only in seasons 3/4 of BtVS. I love her tons on AtS but was only able to connect with and enjoy her character there. I like Faith in BtVS season 7 though. I just don't understand the hype around her in BtVS season 3. I guess mostly I don't understand why people love her and Buffy's dynamic so much.

Are there more characters? Tara? I don't think she's overhyped, but I guess I like her a little less than most? There aren't many overhyped characters on AtS - quite the opposite, there are mostly underrated ones. Some fans probably think Wesley is overhyped? I think fans love Lindsey too and I never got the hype. Oh, and maybe Fred is a bit overhyped sometimes?

Cander - I like Xanya but I know most people don't like Anya and prefer Xander with Cordy;

Spike/Angel - Hate them;

Lindsey/Angel - They're not that hyped but I think some people like them?

There aren't a lot of popular canon ships on Buffyverse. I know I'm missing ships, sorry.

Episodes:

Halloween - Absolutely hate this episode.

Passion - It's so annoying! I hate Angelus's cheesy VO and stalking of Buffy so much. The episode is so dramatic in such a cheesy way.

Bad Girls - This episode is so giffed, but it's not that memorable to me, probably because I don't care much about Faith and Buffy;

The Prom - I like the episode, but like many season 3 episodes it's not as good as people say.

Hush - It's good and super original, but it's also a bit boring to me;

This Year's Girl/Who Are You - Both are considered some of the best Buffy episodes, but I never cared for them, nor for SMG/ED's performances. Again, this is probably because I don't care about Fuffy, or Faith in the beginning;

Restless - Barely got through it once. I thought it was pretentious crap, just the kind Joss was great at;

Fool For Love - One word: Spike;

The Gift - Apart from the ending, the episode isn't really that good, I think;

Life Serial - I kind of remember this episode being hyped and seen as one of the best in season 6, but I don't remember enjoying it;

Once More With Feeling - Am I alone in barely getting through it once and hating all the songs and the actors' singing?

Conversations with Dead People;

Lies My Parents Told Me - I loathe this episode and the one above so much but I can't even remember which one's which;

Spin the Bottle - I like the episode, but it's really not as funny as advertised imo;

Destiny - I think some people like it for some reason;

Smile Time - I like it, but it's not that funny. It's just a solid episode.

Birthday? The Girl in Question? Are there overhyped Angel episodes? Maybe most early season 5 episodes? Fans seem to love this season and I don't, with the exception of the brilliant Wesley and Illyria arc, You're Welcome, Origin, Not Fade Away, and a few others.

Personally I prefer the adult years because I relate to and resonate with them more since I am an adult.

High school years are cool and all. I do love watching them grow up. But there’s just nothing there for me personally because my high school years are behind me and I never watched this show when I was a child so the nostalgia factor is 0. I always wanted to get on to the meat of the show whenever I do a rewatch and for me that’s Season 4/5/6. Tillow, Xanya and Spuffy.

It’s nice to see someone else notices that.  I fail to see how her spell is “a kindness” rather than self -preservation though.  Also you do realize this makes the first year of her relationship with Willow based on a lie and explains why she tampered with a spell in season 4

For me it hurt Tara dramatically.  I still liked her interaction with Willow, I’m definitely a Tillow shipper, but it made her totally ineffective as what they wanted her in season 6, as I viewed her as a hypocrite

Ok, so, what Willow does to Tara in Season 6 of Buffy is absolutely wrong and unacceptable. No denying that.

But this watch-through is the first time I've ever noticed a parallel in Tara's actions, albeit much more ethically nuanced.

In Season 5, Episode 6, Tara didn't want her friends to see her (non-existent) demon-side. She cursed them, intending a kindness, but nearly getting the gang hurt or killed.

I just think this is an interesting parallel. Again, I love Tara, I love Willow, and I don't think their actions are equal. Willow's choices were WAY worse.

Still, first time I've thought about it.
