season one: unfortunately none of them contend as my favourite but i still love their nostalgia <3

season 2: halloween (i just find it silly)

season 3: band candy (i love seeing giles in his element), the wish (VAMPIRE WILLOW), doppelgangland (see previous <3)

season 4: fear itself (bc in your words, "thats how u do a halloween ep"), something blue (spuffy's origins !!), hush (tara!!!!!), who are you? (faith in buffy's body does something to me istg), new moon rising (tillow aaahhhh), restless (ITS SO SILLY <33)

season 5: family (tara backstory!!), the body ( :( )

season 6 (controversially my fav season): once more with feeling (one of my top albums on spotify), tabula rasa (it has my whole heart especially the end..), older and far away (i find it silly as well), hell's bells (bc it makes me cry), entropy (soleley for the ending which i wrote a fanfic on hehe), seeing red (bc it makes me cry again :( )

season 7: selfless (for the anya content <3), him (silly), conversations with dead people (very well written esp willow's storyline), storyteller (bc we love andrew), chosen (bc its a very good finale imo)

Personally I prefer the adult years because I relate to and resonate with them more since I am an adult.

High school years are cool and all. I do love watching them grow up. But there’s just nothing there for me personally because my high school years are behind me and I never watched this show when I was a child so the nostalgia factor is 0. I always wanted to get on to the meat of the show whenever I do a rewatch and for me that’s Season 4/5/6. Tillow, Xanya and Spuffy.

There’s a reason why the mid-tier (4,5,6) seasons are the seasons I tend to watch over and over again even if not all of the episodes are particularly my favourites.

In a nut shell:

Tillow and Spuffy and the relationship dynamics both when they’re healthy and when they’re not healthy because that’s juicy and thought-provoking.

Willow developing her powers and going rogue and dark. Because that’s juicy and thought-provoking.

I drop off at Season 7 and then start all over again because that’s when the UPN seasons lose their taste. For me anyway. I know there’s some people that don’t like the UPN seasons at all or prefer Season 7 to 6.

To be honest, without Spuffy, I’d completely lose all interest in Season 7 and wouldn’t watch it at all. Consistency in every worthwhile way is just not there. And that’s a problem for me. If you take consistency and versatility away from a a season or a set of consecutive episodes - I very quickly lose interest.

That my friends, is why Season 5 wins out by leagues. Just the last 4 episodes alone show you how good it is. Show you it pales in comparison everywhere else.

So if we’re going by replay watch value: Season 5, Season 6 and Season 4 are my TOP 3 seasons. But if we’re going by selective seasonal storytelling, Season 5, Season 2 and Season 3 respectively are at the TOP.

And Season 7 and Season 1 can go die in a hole because Buffy starting out is terrible and Buffy endgame is terrible to me. They’re the trough of the show for sure. In the middle is PEAK. 🤣

Season 1 is terrible because it’s too short. It’s clearly on a budget. The characters are awkward and it just shows the actors are just getting used to them. The monster of the weeks are tedious and ugh in every way. And it’s just a fucking borefest through most of it

Season 7 is terrible because although it starts off with a great concept for its overall storytelling arc, the main characters lose their charm and start acting out of character, there’s too many season regulars and recurring characters so the focus is all over the place and it introduces too much plot in too little space-time and neglects character development cause of it.

It’s nice to see someone else notices that.  I fail to see how her spell is “a kindness” rather than self -preservation though.  Also you do realize this makes the first year of her relationship with Willow based on a lie and explains why she tampered with a spell in season 4

For me it hurt Tara dramatically.  I still liked her interaction with Willow, I’m definitely a Tillow shipper, but it made her totally ineffective as what they wanted her in season 6, as I viewed her as a hypocrite

Ok, so, what Willow does to Tara in Season 6 of Buffy is absolutely wrong and unacceptable. No denying that.

But this watch-through is the first time I've ever noticed a parallel in Tara's actions, albeit much more ethically nuanced.

In Season 5, Episode 6, Tara didn't want her friends to see her (non-existent) demon-side. She cursed them, intending a kindness, but nearly getting the gang hurt or killed.

I just think this is an interesting parallel. Again, I love Tara, I love Willow, and I don't think their actions are equal. Willow's choices were WAY worse.

Still, first time I've thought about it.
