Snide remarks were traded for the rest of the day, leading to a grand finale that went viral. It was the final hole, and you were tied with Carlos, who had already finished at 2 under par. Cameras and fans were everywhere, watching your last shot.

"Take all the time you need, cariño," he called out, smug.

"Watch your fucking mouth," you snapped, locking in and sinking the final putt, one stroke under to win. That moment blew up on TikTok, quickly becoming known as one of your "coldest" moments.

The next time you saw him was at a celebrity softball game. You actually ended up being on the same team which meant that your feud would be fine right? No.

Much to your team's dismay, you and Carlos spent more time trying to one-up each other than actually playing the game. The final straw was him hitting a walk-off home run. You left immediately after, too annoyed to celebrate with the team. There was just something about that man that drove you crazy.

Unfortunately, the feud with Carlos brought in a lot of PR exposure, which led to today. You stood with your arms crossed, glaring at Carlos, who was giving you the same look.

Because F1 had a race in Austin this weekend, your team’s marketing department thought it would be a great content opportunity to partner with Ferrari while they were in town. They’d set up a series of mini-games for you and your teammate Maddy to play against Carlos and Charles Leclerc.

The first game was knockout. After a quick round, it was just you and Carlos left, both sinking shot after shot. You finally missed and panicked, but Carlos missed his next shot too. As you went for a layup, you suddenly felt arms around your waist, lifting you off the ground.

"No way, mi amor," Carlos whispered in your ear, swatting your ball away before sinking his shot. You couldn't help but laugh, actually enjoying yourself.

The next game was chess, where Charles easily wiped the floor with everyone. Finally, the day ended with pickleball, and this was where things got competitive. Carlos was used to playing padel, but he was still dangerous with a pickleball paddle.

The match started intense, neither of you willing to back down. Eventually, Maddy and Charles gave up, leaving the two of you to battle it out. After what felt like forever, you hit a quick shot that left Carlos twisted on the ground. Your victory cheer faltered when you noticed he wasn’t getting up.

Jogging over, you felt a mix of concern and annoyance that the marketing team was more focused on capturing the moment than helping.

"You good?" you asked, stopping next to him.

Later, Carlos lay back on a training table with ice packs on his thighs. You sat on a nearby table, legs swinging as you chatted with the trainer. When she left, Carlos looked over at you.

"You didn’t have to stay this long," he said.

You shrugged. "I can’t have my biggest competition out for the celebrity charity season, can I?"

He chuckled softly, the tension from earlier easing. "Guess not."

You offered a small smile, leaning back on your hands. "Besides, who else would I argue with during these charity events? No one else is as fun to beat."

"Fun?" he said, raising an eyebrow, his tone teasing but with a hint of challenge. "You call this fun?"

You laughed. "As fun as watching you squirm every time I win."

Carlos propped himself up on his elbows, his eyes locking with yours. "You do realize you’ve been driving me insane since the first tournament, right?"

You opened your mouth to reply with a sarcastic retort, but something about the intensity in his gaze stopped you. Your breath caught for a moment, and instead, you said, “Yeah, well, the feeling’s mutual.”

A silence hung between you, but it wasn’t awkward. Something was simmering there—unspoken words and tension that had been hidden beneath all the banter and competitive fire.

Carlos broke the silence, his voice softer this time. "Maybe we should stop fighting, then."

You raised an eyebrow. "And do what instead?"

"Try something new," he suggested, his lips curving into a slow, confident smile. "Something a little less competitive."

"So what’s the plan, then?" you asked, your voice just above a whisper.

Carlos leaned in slightly, his voice low and teasing as always, but with a hint of sincerity. "I’d say it’s about time we call a truce."

You smiled, biting your bottom lip. "A truce, huh?"

He nodded, his gaze softening. "Unless, of course, you’d rather keep fighting."

Without missing a beat, you closed the distance between the two of you, pressing your lips to his. The kiss was brief but enough to send sparks through you. When you pulled away, Carlos grinned, that same cocky smirk he always had when he thought he’d won.

"Don’t think this means I’m going easy on you next time," you said, your voice playful, your heart still racing.

F1 and independent content creation

Recently, especially on Tiktok, F1 content creators apparently got letters stating they have to change their branding, as in take ‘F1’ out of their username and stop using exclusive F1TV content. There has been quite an uproar around this happening, with many fans not understanding why liberty media would forbid free marketing for them and complaining about it, so i would like to explain the choices made and how this influences content creation way less than most assume.

First of all, I have not seen the apparent letters myself, thus i can only guess what exactly it states, but as far as i see it, it only states that content creators have to keep copyrighted content, like the name or content out of their videos. It is not forbidden to continue to post anything, although I could see that changing with the current behavior of a few people.

A lot of people on tik tok claim that F1 content creators were the reason why they got interested in F1 and that it’s a shame Liberty media has used this for years but now that they got all the fans try to keep the independent content creators down. In itself this claim explains liberty medias choices; F1 content creators have gotten big, with thousands of followers to the point that they make money of F1 content, which is a whole legal affair in itself but i’ll even skip that point (although i’d be very happy if someone that has more knowledge of the law would explain it closer). Liberty media cannot control what these accounts post, which sounds good in the first place, but can become really dangerous and annoying to F1 fast.

Let me give you an example; we are going to imagine a girl now, let's call her Katie (for legal reasons, this is not framing but an example. As of 18.08.2024, none of these accounts or people exist to my knowledge). Katie is a big F1 fan, so she decides to make a tik tok account called ‘F1UpToDate’. She quickly gains thousands of followers by making videos about grand prixs, silly season, you’ve all seen the videos. Well now Katie is not a saint, no one is, so she makes a video saying racist things. Said video gets millions of views and now liberty media has a problem; due to the account name, they are directly tied to anything problematic she posts or says and there are many people misunderstanding that Katie is independent from F1. It sounds outlandish, but currently, there are quite a few F1 content creators that are big enough to be confused with an official F1 account. Now liberty media has to put out press releases and talk about how they have nothing to do with the post,... Instead of waiting for the shoe to drop, they are currently preventing anything like this from happening, especially since no one can predict what bad things people could actually do.

Now I’ve seen quite a few people also confused, why not just employ F1 content creators? They are well loved by the fans and could attract more fans, but people underestimate how expensive that actually is. As far as I see it, there's only two ways that would work, and in both cases the content creators would lose the independence that makes their videos so fun. Either, they have to get every single video by PR managers of liberty media approved, which would mean less funny and spontaneous videos, or they would only be allowed to post by a script, which again, would make them dependent. 

In the end, if we go back to our example, had the account been called ‘MotorsportsUpToDate’, there would still be outrage if something bad was posted, but at least both the content creator would have been independent and liberty media not affected. People will still be able to find content creators and they’ll still be able to attract new fans, a new username won’t change that.

To be honest, I'm even surprised liberty media let them get away this long with getting money from their name. Again, I'm not well versed in law, but I am aware that money creates these situations too.

But like always, I'd like to know what other people think of this, if you agree or maybe know more about the law than I do in this case.

maybe it’s just because i’m a fan of max, but sometimes it annoys me how f1 fans get so happy when he doesn’t finish a race. i understand that it’s boring to see the same person win all the time, and personally there are drivers that i would absolutely love to see win a grand prix (lando, charles, lewis, etc.), but it just rubs me the wrong way to see fans make tiktoks about how the australian gp was beautiful just because max didn’t finish it, and that they hope stuff like this happens for the rest of the season, etc., joke or not.

i just don’t get why people hate max’s success so much when we’re literally witnessing history being made (especially last year’s season). max verstappen’s prime years are some of the most impressive in all of f1, and i feel like more people need to recognize that. it’s amazing that a driver can perform on such a high level and get the best possible performance out of a car so consistently.

i don’t want it to seem like i’m irritated because max didn’t win or something. i think it’s boring when max is out in front with a 20 second gap; i want to see him have proper fights with other drivers that push both of them to the limit. i want to watch someone beat max after battling with him the whole gp, rather than a driver beating/catching up to max because of mechanical issues. it made me so happy to see carlos win a race, knowing that ferrari dropped him for lewis and left him without a seat. it was amazing to see carlos prove that ferrari made a mistake and he’s worthy of a seat in the future, whether that’s next year or 2026. that being said, i would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if max had been able to challenge him.

max as a driver is ridiculously impressive, he has a great personality, and he deserves more support. fans shouldn’t be celebrating because he was knocked out of a race by mechanical issues.

I am so pissed off. I was scrolling through TikTok and I was saw this trend where people get their friends or siblings to rate drivers and they were so unbelievably rude when it came to Lance that it made me want to throw my phone at the wall. They said he was ugly, which is OK for someone to say, but then the way they kept insulting him and then the person who posted it agreed. And people were saying that they love seeing people slander Lance. Like, what did Lance do other than have a rich dad who loves him? I don’t see anybody hating on for a rich dad who loves him. Do they think it’s free to get into formula? You literally have to pay to have a seat in formula 2 just because Lance’s dad loves him enough to help him out to do whatever he loves, does it mean Lance is ugly or a nepo freak as the tt girl put it.

I if any of the other drivers was parents did what Lance’s was doing, nobody would bat an eye. But then I saw this thing where people revealed that a huge reason that Lance gets hate is because where he’s from and his religion. Phobia and I forgot the word for when you hate someone of a certain religion. Not just because his dad is rich and pays for the team.

Oh my god the official f1 social media accounts are UNBEARABLE lately. Between non stop dog content, WAG bs and clickbaitey posts trying to low-key stir up drama between drivers it doesn’t end and it’s honestly embarrassing like we as fans of the sport want neutral updates on the sport from the official accounts not fan account behaviour (we have twitter for that thank you very much). hey! hi! hello! i'm not the one to yap about the so called championship fight that the media is trying to push on us which annoys me (maybe i'll start yapping more here lol)

before i start, i want to remind you all about the points difference between max and lando when it comes to championship battle that is currently 57 points.

now that i'm finally starting i want to start by saying that i do not consider this whole season that max actually had a championship contender to fight with. this will shock some lando fans but when i say competition i mean 10-20 points between 1st place and 2nd. A good example is with max and lewis in 2021 when they entered in abu dhabi with the same number of points (crazy fr). That was actually a competition.

second of all, i totally understand what the media is trying to do by portraying it like a title fight so the season will not be boring, but also to help new fans be interested in f1. BUT AND A BIG BUT i think they're forgetting an important aspect (along with their british bias) that lando does have a fast car, but he has never had a fast car before.

before you go and bash me for being mean to lando and a hater. i wanna say that lando hasn't had a championship winning car ever since he came to mclaren so he isn't that used to getting poles and podiums almost on a daily basis, that's why he never manages to keep that pole position when the race starts.

also, he is not having a competition with a small little f1 pilot but with a 3 time world champion who is known for his aggressive style of driving and going all in when it matters. that also will never seize to get the most out of ones mistake. so he is under pressure.

again, i don't know how lando handles pressure but from what i have seen from the fights he had with max that he usually goes off track or dive bombs.

i'll not express myself when it comes to that pole position that max had in the bag for the us gp or even the battle between max and lando because fia knows the rules. I simply don't know them. but max gave lando a masterclass when it comes to defense and i'm not the only one saying that. and this is gonna be controversial when i say this but when lando got the penalty i knew that the british bias would come through (it always does). how Ted Cravitz felt the need to mention that he is a "neutral observer" but then say that the penalty that lando got was unfair. BUT AND THE BIGGEST BUT IF max would have gotten it than i bet you that everyone would have agreed and been happy about it.

before i say that i wanna say that if lando wants to win this championship (and i'm not gonna be mean but it has never been a fight because mclaren woke up to late to give those upgrades to lando they should have given him the upgrades in australia or even a bit later, plus max has an advantage of 2 race wins which helped him a lot) he should be more confident in his moves and try not to go off track that much. as for max he needs to do what he is doing, being consistent (and i also want to mention that after singapore the number od points separating max and lando were the same as in miami, yes i'm gonna praise max, move on) and be ahead of lando as much as possible.

update: so i saw a girl on tiktok being very offended (or at least that's what she seemed to me) she was talking about how lando fans have the pressure off for the championship, but charles fans are very positive than he can win. AND i want to tell her something, unlike lando who has a fast car and had it for some time, charles can actually win with a fast car (yes i'm being shady but i had to, sorry not sorry)

Im sorry in advance but I need to describe this in full detail to someone else bc no one irl is a formula one fan like me so I have no one to talk to this about😭😭 but I think it’s so interesting the way stan culture moves and how my tiktok algorithm showed me just how bad it is for the wags

I’m new to F1 so my tiktok algorithm started with showing me Charles Leclerc to Taylor swift music edits (thought he was really pretty but didn’t make me a f1 fan) to Max Verstappen to TS music edits (made me a huge Max fan and why I’m into formula one now lol) to Max interview clips to drive to survive (watched it —I know it’s dramatized but I love the way it’s filmed) to more tiktoks about max and his childhood and then I started getting really pretty girls on my fyp (now I know it’s Alexandra and Kika but didn’t at the time so I would like the videos and move on) but then I became a bigger fan of f1 so I would recognize them and then my tiktok fyp went to edits of the wags which was whatever bc I love pretty girls so I didn’t think too much of it but then very quickly my fyp turned dark (very dramatic lmaoo). I started getting hate edits of the wags and at this point I didn’t really have too much of an opinion on the wags and I still don’t except I do side eye Kelly —i know it’s none of my business and I know bare bones about their relationship but age gaps especially when one met the other when they were a teen always makes me uncomfortable🥴 Anyways so once my tiktok went weird, I started going through the hate comments these people would leave about these women and I feel so bad for the girlfriends. Yes they live incredibly privileged lives but being dissected the way they do on tiktok is absolutely insane. They get hate for literally every single thing they do. I remember there was a video of Charles and Alexandra at a race and she stopped smiling for one second and they were literally calling her two faced and fake for just having a resting face that isn’t smiling. There was another of Kelly and they had a video of her not catching the bouquet at a wedding and clipped a video of max laughing so it looked like he had laughed at her and then followed it by a video of Kelly getting annoyed or something and the amount of nasty comments was insane. I think Kelly then said something about it on Instagram and instead of feeling bad for spreading a false video to hate on her, the same page started to make fun of her for trying to say it was edited WHEN IT WAS!?? I still don’t get it honestly. I get being jealous of their lifestyle bc wow it must be amazing to be able to travel and experience the world the way they get to but not even when I was at my most parasocial relationship with one direction as a 12 year old, did I ever feel the need to send hate to the people my faves dated. I know stan culture has always been bad but I do wonder what it was like following formula one when tiktok did not exist. I’m not sure how long you’ve been a fan but was it always this toxic towards the wags?? Or is the increase in fans formula one has recently gotten the cause of all this?? Formula 1 is the perfect storm for toxic fans because it is so constant. Racing happens for most of the year and in between the off track drama keeps going. Whereas singers are only visible while touring and not often in between. Drivers are constantly giving content.

I’m not gonna rehash it because it was so wild but that Kelly video at the wedding was one of a lottt of edits flying around about her at that time and some of them actually had some pretty personal information/rumours so when she comments about the editing videos she wasn’t referring to the one from the wedding I’m pretty sure. There was one particular tiktok account dedicated to collecting screenshots of messages “from Kelly” that apparently were edited, and just spreading rumours about her personal life from years ago.

But yeah it’s insane what these women have to put up with. To a certain extent they do sign up for it, since a lot of them use the platform to build an influencer career so they are inviting the public into their life in a sense but there’s no excuse for the way people talk about them and harass them it’s unhinged.

And yeah, I do blame the new fan base. Sorry to say but back when it was just old men watching the sport it was not like this. People used to laugh at the antics of James Hunt or talk about the partying but it wasn’t like…this venomous vitriol (obviously men and their hooliganism has its own issues no one likes football fans and they’re all men but I’d argue that kind of fan is part of the new wave of fans as well). And part of it is social media because now people can just post hate indiscriminately and with no consequences but it’s the younger demographic by and large using social media.

Parasocials in F1 absolutely seem to be the consequence of increased media presence (drive to survive, more promotion of races/race weekends as “partying” events, more races in cities/tourist locations). Thank you Liberty Media (RIP Moto GP). And personally I think it’s making the sport a bit ridiculous but it’s bringing in money. Parasocials are the people who buy merch and go to the f1 arcade and pretty much keep the cafes on Casino square solvent so…yeah. Good for the investors. Good for the teams.

And even good for the wags in a way like I don’t doubt that despite the hate they’ve all materially profited from the attention.

It’s just sad that people have to act like that. Like are they raised in a barn? Did no one teach them to mind their own business? Is the jealousy so real that they can’t help themselves? Idk how posting about how much you hate Alexandra’s body makes you feel cuter or better about the fact that Charles Leclerc won’t date you. I can’t relate.

But maybe that's my F1 fan side that didn't make them to like me… I'm the same anon that met Lando…And I kinda have a "fan-girling" week since i saw him wearing my bracelet all week. Well first of all, that's amazing! I'd would bring that up all the time too! But honestly, yeah they're allowed to be annoyed by it, that's their right but that doesn't have to mean they should just ditch you. Oh yeah I agree, I tried watching/listening to one episode of their podcast because somehow they keep getting "important" guests and I had to stop at around ten minutes because I couldn't bear it.

In the screaming meals episode they said they do it full time, meaning that at this point it's their job and I think that just makes it even worse. I mean they claim the pod is their learning journey, but in one year they still have no clue who the drivers are and they don't know anything.

I wonder how they manage to get drivers as guests. Like for example they had Ollie Bearman and Robert Shwartzman both from the ferrari academy, and since it's ferrari you'd think they would check more or maybe their ignorance on f1 it's exactly why PR teams approve 🤷🏻‍♀️

we've gotten way past any moment where they actually had anyone who actually cared or knew enough about the sport at this point it's just about getting the engagement, getting new fans and let's make a spectacle that they can enjoy (tho i exclude from this a lot of the newer staff i've seen at f1 and the ppl doing the content on tiktok/youtube with f1 drivers some of them really are doing a great job and seem to know enough about the sport)

i've seen enough ppl say australian race was the best f1 race they've seen because of the 3 red flags.... tells me enough about the situation we're in rn.

that's not to say that the newer fans aren't allowed to have the time to learn things but it does get sometimes annoying since usually they're the ones being the loudest about their opinions when well... they don't know enough.

So I was in TikTok and I see an account recording Lando, which I think oh well he must have spotted him, when I enter the account they literally stalk the drivers in Monaco. I still don’t feel they are celebrities like for example Justin Bieber to have that type of accounts. Idk if this has always happened to drivers or is just due to the increasing fan base that lead to people wanting more content. I say this because the first time I was in Monaco (only for a week as a bday gift when I was 16) like in 2015 there was not that much of following drivers around? I was a f1 fan but you didn’t saw lots of people following them. Last time I went to Monaco was 2018 and still didn’t saw people recording them 24/7 and I find it pretty odd

I think Fans are more invasive than before they literally admit to travel to Monaco purposely to look around for them, Monaco of all places used to be amazing when it comes to privacy but the last year or two not so much and it seems like it just keep getting worse, and I think most of the people doing these aren’t even fans of whoever driver they stalked they just want the attention, even Charles of all people is starting to look feed up with the “fans”, because idk if it’s just me but i would feel so uncomfortable annoying someone independently of how famous they are in their free time just for a picture and film them without their knowledge idk that sounds so disrespectful to me and one thing is the little kids those are being innocent but the grown adults pls it’s embarrassing you know you are being invasive
