More reasons why Tigtone (2019) was the most underrated Adult Swim show The funniest part of this series isn't the overtly absurd stuff though; it's the more subtle ways the dialog is off and the logic is broken. Like in the bit with the pirate queen, when she says "fool to you!" instead of, say, "you're the fool!" You still know what she means and it's delivered with such sincerity you can almost miss anything was wrong with it. Not to mention "the well has been poisoned! Save my sick twin sister from the bottom of it!" like, wait, which of those is the main problem? Does this imply she'd be fine trapped in the well if it just hadn't been poisoned? And for some reason when Tigtone is simply saving someone trapped in a well, what we hear are sword-fighting action sounds. The clips I picked out don't nearly do justice to the fact that something is "wrong" like this with almost every moment of the show, and sometimes what makes it wrong is more creative than any carefully formulated "joke." It's kind of exactly what people would later find funny about AI algorithm writing, except people put actual thought into these errors.

Note
Finally on Adult Swim originals, favorite character from the originals from 2019 - onward era (notably, live action slowed down at this point and shows reduced to just 1-2 premiering per year now): Tigtone, Lazor Wulf, Momma Named Me Sheriff, Beef House, Three Busy Debras, YOLO, Birdgirl, Tuca & Bertie, Teenage Euthanasia, Smiling Friends, Royal Crackers, Rick & Morty the Anime, and Invincible Super Girl (okay, it just came out but still)? Skipping Primal, Unicorns Warriors Eternal, and JJ Villard's Fairy Tales since the CN Studios miscellanous ask covers them. Also skipped My Adventures with Superman since WB Animation ask covered it. I know this is a lot but I'm positive you haven't seen a good amount of those so I got more comfortable just lumping all of 2019 onward in one era.
Also noticing by 2023, Adult Swim got more preferred between Cartoon Network losing their primetime hours of 5-8 PM to Adult Swim that year (meaning there's more Adult Swim hours than Cartoon Network hours now), stuff intended for Cartoon Network moving to Adult Swim such as My Adventures with Superman, Unicorns Warriors Eternal, and Invincible Super Girl, and even the nostagic blocks such as Checkered Past (showcasting the big CN originals from the Cartoon Cartoons era) and Toonami Rewind (throwback to the original Toonami from 1997-2008 with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Naruto on the block) landing on Adult Swim over Cartoon Network.
ON the latter thing, yeah. I think Adult Swim is slowly eating CN, airing content that's fine for kids too, simply because WBD is carring less and less about cartoon network and children's cartoons in general. So it makes more sense to pivot to something that in their greasy eyes is making money. It's not all bad as checkered past and the shows mentioned are still fine for kids, but it is noticable.
Just going with what I did last time and wish I'd done sooner: If I don't mention something, I didn't see it. ALONSY!
Beef House: I loved this one. Genuinely loved it. I don't have a faviorite character as it's been a while but Tim and Eric parodying a stock sitcom with a WACCKKKKYYYY premise is perfect. IT's a real shame this didn't get a season 2. It was funny, offputting and just my kind of nonsense.
Three Busy Debras: I like what i've seen, a bizzare series about three women all named debra and a stepford suburb. It's bizzarely perfect. I need to see more.
YOLO: YOLO is great, and it's not a huge suprise given it comes from smiling friends co creator micheal cusak. Season 1 is decent and it has this weirdly specific feel that makes for the best adult swim shows: it fits in well with weird cahos for the sake of it and what not, but is distinctly australian, and uses it's ugly animation perfectly. Like Smiling Friends after/alongside it, it LOOKS like it was made cheap but is actually incredibly intricately crafted. It's good fun.
Birdgirl: Was a disappointment. Paget Brewster was already having a hell ofa day voice acting wise with Ducktales, so having her return to this early role was a great idea in theory. In concept.. it didn't really work. Trying to do a sequel to harvey birdman but throwing all it's hannah barbera characters out was a mistake. Judy is more likeable here as she had about two gags in the original, but the show itself never really seems to come together all that well from the few eps i've seen. I just could not get into it.
Tuca and Bertie: Speckle. He's the best boy.
Tumblr media
Tuca and Bertie is sadly done, but it remains one of adult swims best shows ever. I might have to list my faviorites when this is over. While WBD didn't keep it going as long as they should have, unlike a LOT of shows under their tyranny they at least gave it the second chance it deserved after Netflix cancelled it in less than a month, a trend that's continued and continues to make no sense.
So as a result of this monumentally dumb decision Adult Swim picked the show up and thus one of the best shows of the decade got a proper run. What we got was fantastic, a show that's creative and adult, but in a nuanced way tackling issues like sexual assault and workplace abuse with grace. The show feels like the warmer compliment to Bojack, the series sister show thanks to both having designs by LIsa Hanawalt.
While Bojack focuses on a more broken world with a seriously flawed main character, Tuca and Bertie is more optimistic. It won't hestitate to punch you in the gut repeatedly, but ther'es a light at the end of the tunnel. Things CAN get better. And given the truly awful shit that just happened, it's a message we need: things can suck: breakups happen, abuse happens, your world can be dark.. but you are loved and we can get through it together. It's also really fucking funny and has creative worldbuilding, taking the simple design choice of having plant people and playing around with as they go to the point Tuca is eventaully vociing a tree voiced by Matthew Rhys.. which is distracting and was for @jess-the-vampire as he uses the same voice for both characters. It's diffrent enough to still be good voice acting, but it's weird hearing that voice as a supportive loving boyfriend with a drinking problem.
Teenage Euthnasia; I could not get into this one.
Smiling Friends: Whenever I see your smiling face, I have to smile myself because I love youuuuu... yes I do. Alan, though Jombo is a close second
Tumblr media
Smiling Friends is a masterpiece. I'm still mildly sore about this season due to the doug walker cameo as.. come on guys. Come the fuck on. You know what he's done. Come on. Come onn. But otherwise this season just made a great show greater and both seasons are some of adult swims best.
Smiling Friends was helpful in my growth as an animation fan as it showed things like how to use animation frames to make characters feel just slightly off, and is a wonderful blend of styles. Like I said witH YOLO the show looks like a cheap adult cartoon, and budget isn't everything as a lot of adult swims earliest shows were made on a paperclip an da piece of string and still are amazing, but uses every inch of it's budget in creative ways. It's weird as hell and you never know what to expect with an episode. The two leads are perfectly fleshed out: Pim being optimstic and naive, CHarlie being a mess with a messier extended family and a drinking problem, and the cast is perfectly supported by Alan and Mr Boss (And Glep but he's more of an accsorry), an uptight unplesant but hilarious type a asshole, and a weird goof.
The show is a near perfect string of jokes, creative concepts and punches to the face of black comedy and real genuine depth. It also gave us this gag
Tumblr media
Which is so sadly relevant and useful and comes off twice as great coming from the same company that does this the worst and i'm damn certain Cusak and Hadel know that. A masterpiece I only hope gets better... just keep doug walker out of it.
Rick and Morty the Anime: I tried the first ep, didn't really gel with it and have too much piled up to really be intrested in going back
INvincible Fight Girl: I've only seen an episode and a half of this but DAMN do I love it. A wonderful tribute to shonen anime and wrestling, two things I dearly love perfectly smushed together. It fills the void in my heart left by OK KO , having that same nice mix of genine characters and a batshit insane world. I mean I already heaar ther'es a character named MBrandon. It presents this weird hyper world in it's own way, taking it, like ok ko did for the most part, earnestly, whcih adds to the comedy and allows us to feel for andy as she goes on her journey. This one has all the makings of a true classic
Overally I think the networks in a good place: it';s got some stacked shows, is doing renewals and like the dc sid eof things seems to be better than anything should be under WBD's thumb. There's still some bullshit like the uzumaki fiasco, but so far adult swim seems far safer than it has any right to be in this horrifying climate for animation and I welcome that and pray to god it dosen't change.

Memory gnomes, huh? I wonder where one gets those...
Andrew Koehler & Benjamin Martian’s Tigtone is quite an interesting show on @adultswim.
Plus, it’s truly PRESENTED IN A “LETTERBOX” WIDESCREEN FORMAT PRESERVING THE “SCOPE” ASPECT RATIO OF ITS ORIGINAL TELEVISION EXHIBITION (just like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Primal).

Adult Swim's Tigtone Canceled After Two Seasons
Another one bites the dust.
Adult Swim is continuing it’s purge of original series with the latest announcement coming by way of Tigtone creator Benjamin Martian who has confirmed that the network has opted to not move forward with a third season of the series. Tigtone joins a long list of other recently canceled Adult Swim series which includes Lazor Wulf, 12 oz Mouse, probably Dream Corp LLC, and The…

Best animated series of 2019
This list is purely subjective. Only includes series that started airing in 2019, with the exception of seasonal anime.
Cartoon Network
Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart
Imagine if Shadow the Hedgehog had to babysit the Carebears, and protect them from 80s Cobra Commander/Shredder/Megatron/Mum-Ra/Skeletor. Now imagine it actually being good.
Infinity Train
This is what you would probably get if you made a kid-friendly adaptation of the No End House creepypasta. A solid miniseries that surprisingly seems to share some themes with the old Silent Hill video game series. Despite being intended as a self-contained miniseries, it got a second season. Judging by the trailers, the second season seems to be focusing on new characters.
Victor and Valentino
You can oversimplify a bit by calling this show “Mexican Gravity Falls” alto the series itself has more similarities to Regular Show. Originally I wondered whether or not to include this, as the series is largely hit or miss with its quality. However the episodes that are actually good make it worth.
Adult Swim
Primal
A new series by Genndy Tartakovsky, which made me realize just how I miss old-school macho protagonists. Outside of amazing and brutal action scenes, the series has amazing writing, despite having no dialogue.
Tigtone
Best described as a parody of RPG videogames and tabletop RPGs. The main protagonist can be described as the sort of character a min-maxer/munchkin/power-gamers would create.
Warner bros.
DC Super Hero Girls
New series by Lauren Faust, based on a doll line, based of DC comics characters. Major improvement over the old web series.
Disney
Amphibia
How come America makes better Isekai anime than Japan?
Netflix
Carmen Sandiego plays as a sort of origin story of the master thief.
Nickelodeon
It’s Pony
Series literally just started, as Nickelodeon uploaded the first episode onto its Youtube. Only judging based of of the first episode, but it does make me want to see more.
The Casagrandes
If you liked The Loud House, you’ll probably like this as well. Let us be fair, this is mostly an excuse for Nickelodeon to make more Loud House episodes, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Anime
series based on Shogakukan manga Dororo adapts an old classic by Osamu Tezuka, while improving on an already good source material. Mob Psycho 100 (season 2) continues to deliver on the high standards set by the first seasons
series based on Kadokawa properties I usually don’t like Isekai anime, but The Rising of the Shield Hero puts a twist on the whole thing by instead of having everyone love the protagonist, the whole world shits on him for something that was not even his fault. Series caused allot of backlash from left-wing extremist, which however only helped to promote the series.
series based on Shogakukan manga From the pages of Shonen Jump we are getting The Promised Neverland, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Dr. Stone, and My Hero Academia (season 4). One-Punch Man (season 2) got criticized for using cheaper animation compared to the first season, but still delivers in the writing department. No Guns Life follows a hard-boiled detective who is also a giant talking gun, and it is treated 100% seriously, and it is awesome. A really solid cyberpunk conspiracy thriller overall.
series based on Kodansha manga Fire Force is a series by Atsushi Okubo,  the creator of Soul Eater follows a group of fire fighters in a world where an outbreak is turning people into fire monsters. A fairly standard battle shonen series, but very well executed. Vinland Saga is a gritty historical drama with excelent character writing. While we age here I will also address season 3 of The Seven Deadly Sins, where while I loved the first two seasons, I em just not feeling the third.
series based on Akita Shoten manga If I were to oversimplify, I’d call Beastars a gritty remake of Zootopia, but that would be a disservice. It is largely a psychological and social drama that tackles social issues while also avoiding being preachy or in your face. A little tidbit of information I would also add is that the series creator Paru Itagaki,  is the daughter of Keisuke Itagaki, the creator of Baki the Grappler.
other
Mr. Magoo
A new adaptation of the old character that turned out surprisingly well. Gets away with jokes I would not expect them to pull in the present day political climate.

Here’s the Adult Swim schedule for Monday, August 19 to Sunday, August 25.
SuperMansion swoops in with some weekday reruns for the first time. The Crackle original series based off an Adult Swim pilot gets 12:00a. Your Pretty Face was originally intended to take 12:00a, replacing The Jellies and continuing to do this whole “hey lets rerun series that recently had new episodes at 12:00a” thing that they were doing, but now its taking 12:30a. That bumps Awesome Show, which almost got to do a complete run, and Check it Out, which almost got to do a second complete run in a row, off the schedule.
Dr. Stone premiers on Toonami this week, and with that comes a minor expansion and shakeup. Stone takes midnight, so that moves Fire Force down to 12:30a and Lupin down to... 3:30a. Eeesh. At least it was given a fair shot at 12:30a, tbh.
Instead of leaving entirely, My Hero Academia gets reruns at 4:00a, expanding the block to 5.5 hours and removing Gemusetto Machu Picchu from the lineup. It starts from season 3 episode 16, weirdly enough. Probably means they got plans to air season 4 eventually... hopefully not at FOUR AM.
Superjail and Apollo Gauntlet replace Ballmastrz and Tigtone respectively on Saturdays. Superjail starts from the 2007 pilot, something that hasn’t aired in 6 years.
New Final Space on Monday and new Squidbillies on Sunday.

Vernon Chatman, the mind behind Wonder Showzen and partially behind The Heart, She Holler is joining in the wave of anthology series with a dark comedic bent.
Vernon’s sensibilities and humor are already a little on the twisted side (in a good way) and doing a stop motion animation show will probably allow to get a little more dark and twisted with this new show The Shivering Truth (just ordered to series today at Adult Swim).
With a title like that, you can only imagine that it’ll probably have the feel of some of Casper Kelly’s work at Adult Swim. We wouldn’t be surprised at all if Kelly has a hand in it somehow.

HBO Max New Releases: March 2021
https://ift.tt/3dVFDlk
It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

If the Snyder Cut is not to your speed, there are plenty of other (and shorter) options on HBO Max in March. The series Generation premieres March 11 and is another look at the youths of today a la Euphoria. This one, however, just happens to be cowritten by an actual youth. Persona: The Dark Truth Behind Personality Tests is an intriguing-sounding documentary about the perils of Myers-Briggs tests and it premieres on March 4.
HBO Max closes out the month of March with another major blockbuster. Godzilla v. Kong will bow on March 31 and will hopefully deliver a fare share of monster mashing.
Here is everything else coming to HBO Max this month.

All of these look genuinely good, and it’s worth noting that Tigtone started as a web series.
It’s unfortunate that Shivering Truth probably won’t be picked up since Lazzo doesn’t think it’s worth shelling out the money for, but if either of the other two get picked up that’d be great. Chuck Deuce feels like a SoCal Squidbillies, and Trap Universe is just so beyond belief that I think it’d have to be completely reinvented for Adult Swim to fuck it up.
That said, they’re probably gonna greenlight that shitty Bad Guys pilot because it’s the same humor type as a watered down Venture Brothers meets the shitty parts of Black Jesus.

We just watched Adult Swim animated pilots and four of them were good, in some places REALLY good, and not just by the low bar of Adult Swim standards.

Here’s the Adult Swim schedule for Monday, June 3 to Sunday, June 9.
Massive schedule changes this week.
Samurai Jack loses its 8:00p slot on all but Sunday night, moving to 5:30a Monday to Friday. On the plus side, this does mean there is one more Samurai Jack a week than before.
The Fox stuff now runs from 8:00p-11:00p on the Mon-Thurs lineup, repeating the same way starting at 1:00a (except for Thursday, I have no idea why Bob’s and Dad are always swapped like that).
Yes, I said 1:00a. Adult Swim is no longer airing originals at that timeslot from Mon-Thurs. We could have had 2.5 hours of non-stop non-repeat originals, but nah.
Rick and Morty and Robot Chicken move up half an hour to 11:00p and 11:30p respectively Mon-Thurs. Rick and Morty gets a massive cut-back as it loses its overnight repeats, while Robot Chicken repeats move to 5:00a. These repeats will censor down TV-MA episodes to TV-14-DLSV.
Squidbillies and The Boondocks are gone from the Mon-Thurs lineup in favor of The Shivering Truth, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, and Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule. The Shivering Truth repeats at 4:30a.
An hour of everyone’s favorite possibly coming back original series The Boondocks replaces Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Fridays.
There’s still new Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell on Fridays, but the repeats move down to 4:30a while The Jellies repeats swap places.
Saturday’s post Toonami lineup gets a change. Gone at 4:00a is The Boondocks, with Ballmastrz: 9009 and Tigtone taking its place. The Venture Bros. moves from 5:00a to 4:30a, with Aqua Teen taking the 5:00a slot. Gemusetto Machu Picchu and Home Movies don’t change, though.
Sunday has no changes! But there is new The Jellies, as usual.
