Can we see the snails? I’m about to get a snail which would you suggest? (It’s a freshwater tank)

Awww thank you for asking about them! This ask made me clean their tank lol.

Here’s a fun pic of one of the ramshorns with both a nerite egg (white sesame seed thing) and ramshorn eggs (clearish goop) on their shell! I was calling this snail the babysitter snail for a while.

I am not an expert in aquariums at all! In fact my tank is too small for fish and anyway I was worried that fish would be too delicate. But I do watch a lot of YouTube about aquariums.

Snails are great because a lot of them are really hardy and especially if you get the nuisance/pest snails like I did.

I have 4 snail species; Pink Leopard Ramshorns (pictured above), Pond/Bladder snails, Nerite snails (not considered a pest snail), and 1 Malaysian Trumpet snail.

If you have a bigger tank than I do, you will have more choices like Apple snails, Mystery snails, and Rabbit snails! All very cool and cute!

Anyway I’m not sure what your tank looks like but if you’re going for something small and hardy get some ramshorns! They WILL breed especially with available food. But they are so cute imo.

If you want something prettier (amazing color variations) get some nerites! I have a tiger nerite and a zebra nerite. They will leave white eggs on your tank but the eggs do not hatch in fresh water.

Don’t forget to cycle your tank first and make sure your water is mineral rich (and not acidic)! Also you can feed them blanched veggies but mine seem to prefer algae wafers. Have fun!

as an update to my aquariums

1. might get a nerite snail to help clean a bit

2. putting in potted plants so it's easy to transfer plants into a stock tank pond in the future. I think I'm gonna take an amazon sword out of the shrimp tank, some ludwigia, and anubias nana petite. I also plan on getting tiger lotus but that's for when I set up a stock tank pond.

vi's about to go for his dream of having pet slugs and snails... it's time... let him have that joy in his life. he loves snails. but he loves slugs the most... he'll start with banana slugs and tiger and zebra nerite snails…

maybe even make some crazy terrariums.

A lot has happened since my last post!!! I got some floating plants (selvinia and frogbit):

I got some meds to dose the tank with that should take care of any parasites the fishies came home with that clouded up the water, but are giving me some real peace of mind!

Horribly I've had an outbreak of uninvited snails IN THE TANK!!!! of which I am seriously hoping are bladder snails but they were too small for me to identify. I've seen and removed 4 so far.

Took out my driftwood, worried there were snails living on/in it and gave them a good scrub with a toothbrush and inspection. I put them back in in different spots to try and keep the Snail Epicenter clear. I've found 3/4 of them on the gravel under/around the one driftwood piece and the 4th heading down from the waterline on the back wall.

I think I like this arrangement with the right piece leaning on the left piece better than what I had before, so I'll probably keep it similar when I move them back to the center.

And, finally!!! I got a tiger nerite to keep snailissa company. I moved them into the tank this morning because I was concerned about them not eating in the vase I was quarantining them in. Unfortunately the tip of their shell is gone so I hope they'll recover quickly with our hard, hard water.

So far they've just opened their trapdoor but haven't moved.

Lost my beloved K.K Slider to old age yesterday. He exceeded his natural lifespan and was the oldest (judging by size at least) of our tiger Nerites.

It may seem silly that yesterday I cried when I found him but I loved him just as much as any pet. He also was a companion of my late Betta Picasso. So it feels like losing another piece Picasso. Not to mention the fact that this is very close to the one year anniversary of losing Monty.

He had such a personality. Constantly trying to escape the tank. I had to rescue him on multiple occasions. Gonna miss the little guy.

When the other two eventually pass I plan on creating a little memorial terrarium for them.

aight, so y’all remember Freddy the Fearless? my little nerite who decided he was brave enough to go on an adventure? WELL...

He’s back! :D

So lemme tell y’all what the heck happened...

This was taken the night Freddy disappeared (I take lots of pics of my babes, camera roll is heckin full of em~~). He probably scaled the waterfall to explore the caves and tunnels behind it ;p

So here’s what the tunnels and caves (filtration) look like~ There’s a media basket and some smaller slots n stuff too (I looked down those little compartments, but didn’t see a Freddy). 

Well I was cleaning up Moriarty’s tank, and put Moriarty in here temporarily. I saw Scootter hanging out near the filter flow so I decided to keep an eye on him in case he decided to follow Freddy off into the abyss~ Scooter ended up munching biofilm n such from the media and the inside of the basket. I didn’t wanna move him so I just kept an eye on him. I came back literally 5 minutes later and GUESS WHO DECIDED TO JOIN HIS FRIEND FOR A LATE NIGHT SNACK!? that’s right. Freddy ._. 

I have NO idea where the little squiggle went or where he came back from but I am glad he’s home safe now from his big adventure! :p (I’m currently figuring out the best design for a craft mesh barrier to limit Freddy’s adventures to those inside his tank)

Here’s the tank now! :p Before Freddy went adventuring, it had one marimo and the wood ornament and that was it (I discovered he was missing when I went to put in the black sand). Now it’s got some cucumber (they still haven’t touched it ;n;) my 3 good marimos (the ones I’ve had for a good 4 or 5 months now. the aquaticarts ones are in the fridge rn), black sand (really glad I went with black) and the java ferns I didn’t know what to do with lol (I had to clean them up. I had separated them into categories: spotty, healthy + new growth, growing sideways) but then I didn’t have anywhere to put them while I decided what to do with them! (I wanted to tie them to some wood and put them back in Triton’s tank...but I couldn’t find any thread .__.) so the boys get some plants for the time being :p
