Tease Tidbit Tuesday

Thanks to @like-icarus-burns for the tag!! Here’s a new one… a vampire!Eddie fic that I’m really hoping will go somewhere!

Eddie dies.

Steve breaks his fucking ribs trying to save him, but two days later in the hospital he flatlines, and the defibrillator doesn’t work.

Eddie dies.

The kids don’t go see him. They don’t go down into the basement of the hospital, where the mortuary is.

They saw him in the hospital; when machines were keeping him alive, when his ribs were cracked and broken but working, they saw him. Mike talked at him. Lucas sat in silence. Dustin blabbered about everything, future D&D campaigns, fucking Halloween even though it wasn’t for another half a year.

Eddie dies, and the kids don’t go see him.

Steve does.

He’s finally washed off the blood, the gore, gotten it off his skin and out from underneath his fingernails, out from between each strand of hair and whorl in his fingerprints.

He goes back to the hospital. Wants—needs—to say goodbye, to feel him one last time. To know there’s nothing he could have done.

The technician bids him to follow, through doors, down halls, through more doors, until Steve is thoroughly confused.

He opens the drawer, pulls out the bed.

Steve feels something crack in his chest.

He slips his hand under the blanket, holds Eddie’s hand with his left. Places his right over Eddie’s heart.

Stands there, silently, for three minutes.

“Please,” he finally whispers, not looking away from Eddie. “Please. Can I- can I have a moment. Just a moment. Please.”

“Of course,” the technician says, and closes the door behind him.

His grasp on Eddie’s hand becomes firmer. “How the fuck are you alive?” He hisses out.

For a moment, he thinks he imagined it. For a moment he thinks it was his own body, his own heartbeat tricking him.

Then, Eddie opens his eyes and answers. “I’m not.”

On Sampo's name (ALL of his names!)

I feel like everyone who's a fan knows the meaning of Sampo's full name by now- the sampo was a legendary item that could magically make endless supplies of gold, flour, and salt, all priceless items at the time! So it works perfectly for a scammer businessman like Sampo. ☆

"Koski" is the Finnish word for "water rapids" which might seem kinda random but actually makes sense for him, since Aha and the Masked Fools are also referred to with water terms:

This kind of analogy isn't specific to only Aha and the Masked Fools, but it does still tie them together. So water rapids fits perfectly! Sampo wants to stir the pot! He likes to shake things around and spice things up! He's taking that stagnant pool and turning it into water rapids! It would actually explain his ridiculous hair color, too; a dark blue wave tipped with white foam haha

EDIT: an amazing contribution from @ricochetlovebombs, who heard it from hoyolab user Rattaboy. If you interpret his first and last name together, instead of separately like I did, you would get something like "money river."

In other words, Sampo's name literally means CASH FLOW SKXJMDMDMD

What I really wanted to talk about is his drag alias name, though, Brughel Poisson, because to me that's where it gets really interesting.

So like in the English version, Sampo goes by Brughel Poisson when he's in disguise. Searching for just "Brughel" itself doesn't seem to get you much at first: a Flemish and Dutch Renaissance painter named Pieter Brueghel the Elder, who was famous for his landscapes and peasant scenery, especially Hunters in the Snow and The Blue Cloak.

He's referred to as "the Elder" because he had a son also named Pieter Brueghel (the Younger), and he began a long line of painters, all named Brueghel. Some of them did original work, and many of them created reproductions of the Elder's art to sell. The Elder was also famous as a printmaker. All of this is hilarious when you remember that Sampo is an infamous counterfeiter and has sold a relic called the Parallel Universe Printer JSKZJSMD

There is also something called Brueghel's Syndrome, named after one of Brueghel's paintings called De Gaper, which pictured a man yawning widely. It's a condition that causes the mouth to open and gape uncontrollably, twisting a person's countenance into a distorted mask of their usual face.

Tumblr doesn't have a way of censoring pics like twitter, so for the sake of the medically squeamish, I'm just showing De Gaper here. But if you look up Brueghel's Syndrome, you can find pictures of actual patients, some of whom really do make faces resembling Aha's comedy and tragedy masks!

In the Chinese and Japanese versions, his alias last name is a lot more silly- In those, "Sampo" is phonetically written as "san-bo" and "san-po." And in disguise, his last names are phonetically written as... "Bo-san" and "Po-san." The Chinese version uses different tones, but still. This smug asshole seriously just decided to write his own name backwards and called it a day NDMKXMDMD

In the English version, Poisson itself is kind of a reused Hoyo asset- it's also the name of Navia's fishing village in Genshin Impact. Which is a really silly name for a village, because it literally just means "fish" in French smzjxkdkdk but!

Again, more water imagery. And in English, if something is suspicious, we say that it's "fishy," which is perhaps the most fitting association yet for someone as shady as Sampo ☆

And for a good while I thought that was the only connection. But then. My beloved @hydrachea, who is an actual native French speaker, dropped this on me right after April Fool's Day:

Poisson is literally the word you use to pull an April Fool's prank.

Buck had never felt relief quite like when Tommy finally opened his eyes again.

Two days had been far too long. The plastic chair by the side of Tommy‘s bed had carved lines along the outside of his thighs, his back protesting the near constant hunch so that Buck could rest his head on the edge of the bed. He had to be close, close enough to feel the warmth of Tommy’s body, close enough to press a gentle kiss to the hand he hadn’t let go of for almost 48 hours.

When he opened his eyes again it felt like the sun had finally come up after a long night.

“H-hey you.” Buck squeezed his hand softly,

Tommy opened his mouth but didn’t speak, brows furrowed as he shifts on the bed.

“Are you okay? Are you in pain? I can get the nurse, she said they were giving you some painkillers anyway but I could-“

He falters midway as he feels Tommy move his hand, the one Buck had been holding onto like a lifeline, away from him. Buck frowns, brain immediately admonishing him for holding it too tightly, he was probably squeezing too hard. He looks up at Tommy and opens his mouth to apologise but stops dead at the look on Tommy’s face.

Confusion, distrust, fear.

“Who are you?”

there are two dorarosie wolves inside of me and they’re fighting.

one says he proposes in the afterglow of their first date and it’s more a let’s get married than a question and he has to ask because he’s got two days left and she’s the prettiest thing he’s ever seen, wrapped in nothing but a thin sheet and his arms. they grab his rabbi and his sister for a witness and they’re not the only couple waiting at the license office at the courthouse. it’s a couple of signatures and a pronunciation from a kindly old judge and they’re mr. and mrs. rosenthal and dora has never felt so giddy in her life, sitting at her dining table elbow to elbow with her husband, spooning through the miniature carrot cake they picked up from hattie’s and talking about nothing in particular. that night, they tell their families over dinner and everyone cries, even delilah.

the other wolf says they spend the rest of his leave in aching silences - as he drives her to class, as they wash the dinner dishes, as they listen to the horns at putnam central, full of the mournfulness of last call. he kisses her in the shadow of the old ticket booth at grand central and wipes away her tears and promises that he’ll be careful, and he’s gone just like that. he writes her and she writes him back, bundles of letters arriving at once because they write them faster than the army can ship them. there are moments when they’re both confronted with it, when jack asks why rosie never lands a second date with any of the women who fawn over him and when dora meets robert’s friend harry and his wife for dinner in manhattan, and mrs. crosby is under the impression that dora is respectively mrs. rosenthal. jeannie is the only person in on it when he comes home, surprising dora and his mother at the same time, and after mama rose has gone to bed, they’re seated on the rug in front of the fireplace when he pops the question.

Ohhh my gods, this one was so daunting (I don't like backgrounds 😭) but it was so fun!!! This scene is going to be like. The really fun dramatic one when I get around to writing it, but for now here's a piece for it instead!!

Very quick explanation for those who haven't seen my insane rambles: Dream was about to kill Killer (finish him off) when Nightmare bursts out of hiding to get between them!

Tease tidbit Tuesday

I have….started a new au. Girl dads bucktommy with transmasc buck getting to be a seahorse dad so content warning for trans pregnancy and mentions of labor. this au has bewitched me body and soul and I’m dragging @try-set-me-on-fire down with me <3 <3 so here’s a doodle of happy dads with their fresh baby (Bobby took the picture)

When Eddie grabs Tommy by the crook of his good elbow, Tommy falters. He feels off balance, his stomach swooping and head spinning as he tries to keep up with Eddie’s rapid pace. “Eddie— wait, wait— what’s going on?”

Eddie stops, staring at Tommy before his eyebrows shoot up to his hairline. “You don’t know? Fuck— of course you don’t know, shit.” Eddie smacks his forehead with the heel of his hand.

“Don’t know what?” Tommy can feel his stomach sinking, “Eddie, what don’t I know?”

“Buck is here at the hospital. He’s in labor.”

It feels like the world shifts under Tommy’s feet and no amount of hospital grippy socks will keep him from falling. He sucks in a shuddering breath, and then another when it feels like the first one doesn’t ever reach his lungs.

“Wh–what? But, but he was fine– he wasn’t–” The backs of Tommy’s knees hit the edge of the bed and he sways, only his white knuckle grip on the bed rail keeps him from crashing backward. His next breath comes in too quick, whistling between his teeth as his vision tunnels.
