Three Ships

Looking at the last three things I’ve watched The Empress, Vikings: Valhalla, and Barbarians, let me say I love the first two, because there are SO MANY ship options and I can ship bunches of people with multiple characters, and I just love that. Barbarians might be the same but, I’m only two eps in. Anyhow, if I had to pick one ship from each…

The Empress: Franz Joseph x Maximilian (Look, if they don't want me to ship brothers, they need to start filming their scenes very differently.)

First Ever Ship

#teamfolkwin all the way. honestly i don’t give a sh*t about arminius and his story arc. if the casting wasn’t so bad (not saying that the actor isn’t doing a good job), but why make him look 20 years older than them???? (when they were supposed to be the same age and he was shown to be even younger than them in all the flashbacks???) then maybe i would’ve been on board with him and thusnelda. PS: I know it’s historically correct, but I’m not on board with the casting choice. A 9-year age gap between actors, who are supposed to be the same age (at least that’s what the show is trying to make us believe) is not it.

thinking about how Folkwin never doubted Ari and was willing to always fight for him. That he defended him in front of others, and even himself. That Folkwin always believes that Ari was still his friend. That he knew that Ari would come back eventually. That he was the one who was willing to forgive Ari for everything he did. That Folkwin always trusted Ari to be a good person, even if Ari didn't trust himself. Thinking about how Folkwin stood with Ari even as he defended Rome, even when he stole the eagle, even when he saw his own family dead and crucified, even when Ari outright said that wants to kill him. Because he loves Ari. Thinking about how he was willing to and give everything for Ari, but Ari decided to take the one person Folkwin needed and it destroyed him. Thinking about how Ari never gave anything for Folkwin, how Ari never gave anything to make himself appear more trustworthy. Thinking about how Folkwin thought the two people that he loved, the two people he needed, the two people that defined him left him to rot. Thinking about no matter what they did Folkwin never really got back his. Thinking about how the only thing Ari was ever willing to give was a position didn't even want. Thinking about how no one stuck to the agreement that the marriage would be only a political step. Thinking about how the only thing to keep Folkwin from total self destruction was someone who never demanded anything of him. Thinking about how even then he gave everything for Thusnelda and Ari. Thinking about how Ari told him that he loved him, has always loved him, at the one point in his life that Folkwin was willing to give up his love. Thinking about how Folkwin died professing his love and hatred as if he was guilty of something, because Ari did everything wrong but he was the one who left. Thinking about how Folkwin is the one person defined by and through love in this show, a sword bearer, the only one whose love was stronger than his hatred.

Sorry about sending a bunch of messages to you hard to reply in one message given the character limit. That's true about them not trusting him at first but later on I assume they still don't trust him or if they do they still want to kill him and get his power. How soon does Thusnelda start to trust him and fall in love with Ari again? Also they can't blame Ari he had to do what he could to survive he never went against them right? Thanks for answering my questions!

It's ok nonnie, we're here to fangirl over our fave shows and dynamics so don't be sorry!!! In season 1 they don't really trust him, but they end up fighting by his side because of thusnelda supposed power ( her telling them that she's a seer and that she saw ari's victory made them "trust" him).

She trusted ari when he told her and folkwin that he wanted to betray "rome", his father...ari was a son of rome and rome meant eveything to him. So him coming up with a plan to destroy his father' army was huge...and thusnelda knew it!!! and was glad because the ari she knew was finally back home with his besties. Him fighting by their sides is what thusnelda wanted since they reunited. * ...Did l mention the fact that in the same scene ari called her a heroine, a seer, a cheef's daughter before proceeding to ask her to marry him ?!  he got her wet, right in front of her lover lmao.That man knew exactly what to say to get her attention!!! *

Thusnelda ended up falling for ari when folkiwn was captured by the romans. She went right to him after foklwin allegedly died and didn't seem to care at all that he came back when she found out he wasn't dead.

 Yes they are still plotting, thusnelda's father still wants ari's power, he wants to be reik of the cherusci . And folkwin now hates his former bestfriend because ari "stole" thusnelda from him when he was carputered.

Did you watch barbarians 2 yet? I would love to know your thoughts. I would say I didn’t enjoy it that much due to the historical inaccuracies

I did !!! I watched it today!!!

I was expecting historical inaccuracies because season 1 wasn't historically accurate. Arminius wasn't varus' son, but he did serve under varus just like in barbarians and thusnelda was pregnant with folkwin' baby...a made up character....I love that first season but it was full of historical inaccuracies ( that season 1 gave me varus x arminius' dynamic so I can't really complain lol) .

I take barbarians as fiction but sprinkled with some historical moments and names, and that's probably why I don’t particularly care if it isn’t 100% historically accurate.

I loved what they did with marbod’s character, but I didn’t like what they did with flavus’, germanicus’, the romans legions... . How can we the audience  see the romans as this big threat if they keep having their asses handed to them .

I know the point of the show is to tell the story of barbarians through the eyes of arminius(barbarians) but I don’t like how the romans are portrayed as idiots or just generic evil who can’t fight!!! that black and white depiction definitely did hurt this season more than it helped. 

Oh, I forgot to mention  segestes, I know he was never killed or betrayed by rome but I’m happy he’s dead in barbarians because he was getting on my nerves . ( a lil speculation - Flavus’ son became reik of the cherusci “IRL” but gaius will probably become reik of the cherusci in barbarians and thusnelda will meet ari’s other wife in rome ).

I saw one of your thusnelda x ari gifs recently and I got curious and ended up binging the damn Barbarians series 1 today. And omg I'm in love with Ari and I really didn't need to hyperfixate on yet another ship so SO THANKS A LOT???? Also my heart breaks a little for Folkwin. And the OT3... there's something really special whenever the 3 of them are on the screen together I JUST WANT TO GIF the hell out of it. Can't wait for s2.
