Being unable to watch the livestream on Thursday due to timing with work, avoiding tumblr spoilers like the plague for four days, to then join the Monday squad at 3pm EST and allow myself back into the saloon of campaign discourse, fan theories and shipping art is my personal sisyphusian curse that I will repeat every week until the day my croak dream comes true

Alright since the app didn't want to save my post.
Today has been a stress heap.
Here we go again.
Today, 6-24-19 I found it a bit hard to sleep. This will sound cheesy but I almost always have a hard time sleeping when colt isn't there beside me. I tend to wake up whimpering grasping the sheets and it annoys even myself.
I awoke to the sound of my dog, chaos barking. Telling me he needs to go potty. Fine. I got up, threw some clothes on and went to the bathroom before I took him out.
This next part is TMI but I feel was relevant throughout the whole day. As I was in the bathroom I was wondering when my next cycle would start. My mood swings and physical changes are way to distinct for it not to be right around the corner. And lo and behold, who came knocking but aunt flow!
I finished up and took chaos outside, to which Colt's dad came up to me all pissy. Someone had put rocks out by the small pond and he mowed over them. Well I didn't put them there. Colt did because he was planning on building a deck, but noticed pumpkins growing, so he did it as a means to block his dad from mowing over them. Which still, he inebitably did.
He angrily asked me if I wanted to walk in tall weeds, to which I responded that I didn't care. He seemed confused but I told him how I do it every day for the dog.
For the people who don't know.
Which is all of you, lol hello. I live out in the country side of Midwestern America. Where the dirt roads make everything dusty, and the wildflowers grow tall. And I love it out here. We live on a small pasture. Unfortunately with no livestock but chaos still likes to go all the way out there to do his business lol.
I don't care about walking through tall grass because I love nature. I love identifying plants, picking flowers, catching bugs, collecting them, fishing, and encountering the wildlife.
Basically anything I could do in animal crossing is all I ask for.
I know this is getting long but my day is just starting.
By me going back to sleep until 5pm lol
I wake up right as colt gets home and he flops down on top of me, and we cuddle in bed for the next hour. Again, this is all I could ask for.
By the time I actually get up. I still have a few hours before I go to work. So I decide to relax a bit, take a dab, watch some tv. Then I remembered I needed to get pads! So I tell colt and dash over to dollar General (lol that's the closest store we have around here)
As I'm walking up, one of the employees starts talking to me about my hair again. I've been trying to go from black, to green. It's not what I want yet but still in progress. I'm not a professional, but I am proud of the current outcome. We talked about different dyes and things I could do. It's kind of like chemistry in a way. Like a science experiment each time I give it another round and it's fun!
I get back home, and decide to start putting on my makeup. I wanted a more unnatural, goblin-esk look today because that is very much my aesthetic atm.
I also decide to check up on the bridal group chat and give them a heads up on the schedule.
Again, for all of you who don't know, which is in fact ALL of you. I am in a wedding. No it's not MY wedding, but the bride isn't very good at planning things. So I've been helping. Just alittle too much if you ask me. I need to back up.
But. We have a 3 day event coming up THIS WEEKEND that still isn't really planned out. So I'm trying to push it so this isn't a disaster.
But two people decide they want to interrupt me every time I try to speak and change plans. Normally I wouldn't have an issue. But there's just something that's ticking me off when one of the girls says "I'm not the one planning this so don't come to me about it" yet is one of the first people to interject her opinion when the plans are made.
This isn't their wedding. It's not mine either. But at the same time, the plans are made WITH the bride. It's not like I'm Willy nilly just planning Shit. No. This is Shay's wedding. So they're gonna have the final say. I'm just relaying the message.
All I'm trying to say is that as a social PARTY. As in, let's say a party in world of Warcraft getting ready for a raid or dungeon. It's much better to all meet up at one point, and get all your buffs up before going to the raid/dungeon right? Not to Leroy Jenkins everyone and fuck things up.
We're going to a native hooved animal enclosure to feed the buffalo and elk.
I'm driving over an hour to get there, and think it's more plausible to meet up at a Wal-Mart, stock up on food for the animals, and ourselves, and carpool over there. TOGETHER as a PARTY. We all meet together and funeral march over there so no one gets lost or confused.
But Christina just wants to Leroy Jenkins it all the way to the enclosure, which is located in a huge nature reserve and just find people as they come I guess. And that's what was making me so upset.
So i decide to stop replying to the group chat for a while, and tell shay what's going on. And like with the hands of the gods, shay interjects saying they ALSO feel it's a better idea to meet up at one point before going over.
So that settled that. Or so I thought.
I get to work around 10pm and my boss tries to tell me, that the Thursday I scheduled off two months in advance; The day I've been having so much trouble planning with everyone, I have to work.
And since I was still on my mood swings from the whole situation earlier, I almost break down. But we talk it out, so now I don't have to work until 6pm, which is generous of him.
But THEN,
And I swear this is the last bit
He also tells me that I can't bring this stuffed animal with me to work anymore. What's wrong with that? You ask. "You're an adult. You should act normal and not carry around stuffed animals like a child." Right?
You see, it would normally be fine. If it weren't for the fact that I was having a mood swing and that this isn't just a stuffed animal to me.
Its a three headed black dog. It's Cerberus. On each head is the number 6, forming a 666 on all three heads. It's goth, it's cute, totally my aesthetic, and something you would expect from killstar.
Since I happen to be a bit emotionally sensitive from time to time, I will bring it in place of a service animal. I don't think it would be such a problem if it weren't for the number and the fact that apparently people have literally complained about it.
They literally complained about the weird green haired girl carrying a stuffed animal. Wow.
I understand that I live in the thick leathery part of the bible belt, where The "lil ol' country folk 'round these here parts" are still afraid of a number. Of course THEY couldn't understand why I would carry something like this in the first place without downright judging me. Or complaining first.
But like I said, this isn't just a stuffed animal, or even just an emotional support tool for me.
The main reason this particular stuffed animal is so important that I, an adult feel the need to carry it around in the first place is because I feel it is a vessel for my late familiar. Who happened to be a big black dog. And although I quite literally have his skull, the doll is what feels more like him. And feels more familiar.
Fuck you! I won't do what they told me!
But of course I can't expect the people around here to understand that. Although more and more witches rise up each day, we are still surrounded by the thick views of Christians around here.
I'm just waiting for the day that someone complains to my boss about my green hair. Or my goblin eyebrows, and they tell me to go "more natural"
And to that, I say
Fuck you! I won't do what they told me!

Slauson Station
Tumblr media
Summary:
It’s 10PM on a cold December night and a local South Los Angeles sheriff just wants to be warm. It’s 10PM on a cold December night, and the local South Los Angeles witch just wants to get home without having to walk.
The sheriff stood along the edge of the raised rail platform in complete disbelief. It was 10:00 p.m. on a Thursday in December and, instead of sitting in his vehicle enjoying the warm air conditioning, he instead was waiting atop a platform that was raised at least four stories from the ground. The night breezes felt much stronger at this height and, with the December chill firmly set in, the sheriff was freezing with every brush of the breeze. At this hour, there were no passengers waiting to board; the platform was empty and devoid of life. The sheriff was sure that whoever had been calling these last few weeks to report the so-called “suspicious activity,” that would take place at this time every week, was just yanking the department’s collective chain.
The call had come in thrice this month. Concerned residents who lived near the train platform had begun calling the hotline when they reported seeing a young woman jumping off the platform and, instead of falling, they all would see her float away into the night like a specter. It was a clearly unbelievable tale and while at first it was dismissed as a prank call, the precinct began to take it seriously when platform cameras confirmed at least half of that story. The jumpers face was indiscernible; all one could see was the silhouette of a figure casually stepping off the platform as if though they were taking a simple step along the road. The footage did not extend past the platform, and the department suspected that instead of attempting to commit suicide, the jumper was merely landing on the raised rail tracks and walking along them until they reached the cargo tracks below.
It was the only possible way to explain how the same thing kept happening every time.
“It’s ridiculous, but it is still a serious offense.” The captain had said without looking up from his desk. “Let’s just make sure it’s not a gang related prank. You know how it goes down here.”
So, there the sheriff stood, tired and cold, waiting for the jumper to make their appearance. He gazed at the neighborhood before him; when up at least four stories, the sheriff could see houses, roads, alleyways, and the remains of what once was the sprawling industrial complexes of South L.A.
The sheriff’s father was also in law enforcement and had worked the same beat for many years. When his son announced that he too would be working in South LA, the sheriffs father regaled him with warnings. Among those stories, were his father’s fervent whisperings of the Los Angeles Riots of 1992. He spoke often of the fires that transformed the factories, lumberyards, and train tracks into ashes and hollowed out shells of what they had once been. It never changed back, his father would tell him. Instead, it became a playground for darker forces; forces that had the department at a constant game of cat and mouse.
It was no wonder the boss thought this track jumper was nothing more than a ploy to rouse them.
The sheriff stared at his watch. It was now 10:30, the jumper was late.
The train coming from downtown made its way to the platform and deposited its last three passengers. A man with a cooler who had clearly been selling drinks and snacks on the train, despite knowing it’s illegality, saw the sheriff and scrambled his cooler to the elevator as soon as he stepped off. The sheriff normally would have stopped him but, tonight was reserved for the track jumper. A young man with headphones hoisted a thin bicycle onto his shoulders and walked down the stairs quickly. He was clearly in a rush to get home. The sheriff paid him no heed. Finally, before the doors of the rail car completely shut, a young woman clambered out. Unlike, the last two passengers, the young woman did not seem to be in a rush to get back out into the street. Instead, she merely stood on the edge of the platform as the train departed. The train left the station as quickly as it had come yet, still she did not move. She turned her head and stared in the direction of the bright twinkling Christmas lights of one of the houses in the neighborhoods below.
The sheriff had never seen someone dressed so oddly in South Los Angeles before. The young woman was Latino, or so she appeared. Her dress was white with bright red flowers. She wore a cherry red sweater over the dress, and bright red pumps. The most curious thing however was  the large black umbrella she wielded in her hands. On her face, was a look of deep contemplation. Was this the track jumper?
The sheriff approached the young woman. “Are you in distress ma’am?” he called out. He put a hand on his radio, intent on calling his superiors in case she made any sudden movements.
The girl turned to look at him. Her face shifted and she looked at him in what could only be annoyance.
“Not in the least.” She stated. She raised an eyebrow at him as he approached. Her voice surprised him. It was clear with a tone that could only be described as moderate.
Her face was not particularly beautiful, he noted as he got closer. It was a plain face: eyes brown, hair brown, her skin a light olive tone, a small mouth, and a nose a little on the bigger side. She was not beautiful but, her appearance was neat and perfectly made up. Her lips were painted as brightly red as her sweater. If he had passed her on the street, he would have possibly mistaken her for beautiful.
“I am going to need you to step away from the platform m’am.” He said. She did so but, the look of annoyance on her face deepened. She made no other move to leave the platform. Perhaps she was scared to walk home alone and was waiting for someone to pick her up? If that was the case, he did not blame her. South L.A. was dangerous at night. Her appearance made her stick out like a sore thumb. The train platform was high enough that she could avoid the dangers of the streets, while still remaining in a designated spot if she were getting picked up by a family member.
“Do you have somewhere to be ma’am?” He asked.
“Home.” She said curtly. She went back to staring in the direction of the houses and the glittering lights.
The sheriff took his hand from his radio. This could not be the track jumper. She was far too calm to be considering such a move in front of an officer of the law. “Well, shouldn’t you be going then?” He asked again.
“Oh, “ she said, “well, I am waiting.”
“For what? Are you getting picked up by a family member? Because I don’t mind waiting with you downstairs and off the platform.” He was not going to leave a defenseless woman out in these mean streets alone but, he was going to make sure no one stayed on the platform. Track jumper or not, this woman looked like she had a plan of sorts up here.
“No, I am not waiting for a family member.” She snorted. She raised her umbrella off the ground and fiddled with the buckle containing the flaps of the umbrella shut. “I am waiting for you.”
This was confusing. “Why are you waiting for me?” he said. Maybe, she was in on the whole track jumper prank.
“I am not waiting for you.”
“But, you just said you were and here I am.”
“I am not waiting for you to be here.” She corrected. “ I am waiting for you to leave.”
The sheriff bristled. Annoying bitch. “I am going to need you to get off the platform ma’am.” He said sternly.
“I am not a bitch.” she said calmly.
“I never called you a--
“I know you were thinking it and I can hear it in your voice every time you call me ‘ma’am.’ And I am actually trying to get off the platform and go home but, I don’t really feel like doing anything when you are watching me like I am going to do something dangerous.”
“Are you feeling suicidal tonight ma’am? When you say you’re going ‘home’ are you actually trying to kill yourself ma’am? Can I call someone for you ma’am?” He was unsure now if he was trying to follow procedure or get under her skin. She was irritating. Her manner was self-important and it was incredibly suspicious that she refused to leave the platform. Even if she was not the jumper, she was clearly up to something and his instincts were flaring at him to keep an eye on him.
“We have had several calls in the area of a woman jumping off this platform,ma’am and walking on the elevated track. It’s a rather serious offense and I am just keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.” He said.
Her lips pursed. “Hmph. So people saw that did they?”
The sheriff caught her words and ventured further. “Are you the track jumper ma’am?” He inquired. Her shoulders stiffened.
She turned to face him again. “Stop calling me ‘ma’am’ and leave. I need to go home and I don’t want an audience!” No desperation or sadness was in her voice. Just anger, like he was interrupting something important and routine.
“I am afraid I can’t until you leave the platform.” He said. All doubts were gone now. She was the track jumper and she was trying to jump. Although her reasons remained unclear for jumping, he saw that this woman was clearly not insane or suicidal. She obviously wasn’t trying to pull a prank.
Whatever her reasons, he saw no danger in continuing to rile her.  “Ma’am.” he called. He stepped towards her at the same time that she stepped back. “I am going to need you to get off the platform.”
“Fine.” She huffed. “ I just took the train all the way from Santa Monica today and I am not in the mood to walk home this late at night.” She unleashed the clasp of her umbrella and opened it to it’s full width.
“For someone who is ‘not in the mood to walk,’ you sure don’t seem to mind jumping off the platform and walking along on an elevated track.” He told her.
The night breezes seemed to grow strong around them. The wind pulled at her skirts and tugged at her umbrella.
“I don’t jump off anything.” She said. “I am just trying to get home.”
“We have seen you on the cameras.” He accused. “You can’t lie to me. If you take one step off this platform, I’ll have you placed under arrest.”
“You can try.” She said, her voice was challenging.
In the distance, the fog horn of a cargo train rumbled below them. She backed herself closer to the edge. The sheriff raised his radio to his lips.
“This is Sheriff Donahue. I have identified the track jumper that’s been hanging around the Slauson station. Over.”
“Are they trying to jump?” the disembodied and alert voice on the radio asked.
“10-4.” He called. “I am on the scene and have the suspect in sight.”
The breezes got stronger around them and the girl smiled as she backed up.  With every back step she took, he took another forward. She was insane. The umbrella was hung over her shoulder. Her smile looked dangerous and it was a shame, the sheriff thought, that such a dangerous smile turned her plain face into one of glory.
The foghorn sounded as the train rumbled below them. The girl winked at him and stepped away from the platform.
The winds pushed strongly, the train screeched along the rails, and the chill air made his eyes water.
The sheriff heard the radio call him for an update on the situation but, he could only stare in awe as she floated above the platform, onward above the rooftops, and in the direction of the glittering lights she had stared at so intently.
She traveled along the breeze. Her dress fluttering in the wind.

I’m an enormous fan of both of today’s writers, as I think you can tell from the conversations. Ben MacIntyre is the author of a slew of narrative non-fiction books about (mostly) WWII spycraft. The depth of Ben’s research and the access he has to primary source documents make for riveting and specific stories about fascinating, complicated characters. Start with Agent Zigzag (single protagonist) or Operation Mincemeat (mission-based) if you want to sample his work.
I also chat with Madeline Miller, author most recently of the NY Times lauded Circe, which retells parts of The Odyssey from the perspective of the much maligned witch who turned Odysseus’s crew into pigs. Madeline is an empathetic and deep writer. Pick up Circe if you’re looking for a great fall read.

I wasn't overly impressed the first year seeing only the top shell of the 747 on playa... Three years later I was blown away.  Seeing the entire plane put together, different experiences throughout the interior, and DJ's playing on the wings was impressive. Every veteran friend I encountered on board said the same "this is actually pretty cool!"  I feel like @bigimagination747 could initially see a final vision, got excited about it, and the rest of us only got to see the 747's full glory after a year or two.  I moderate LA Burners, and I usually like to remain objective when I see a witch hunt start, so when the 747 initially got bad press last year, it didn't jibe with what I knew from some great people in the camp, so Bree and I decided to camp with them this year and check it out in person.  First, I'm blown away by how much effort goes into just opening the plane to keep it safe. When open, there were a constant 15 people positioned on and around the plane for safety, apparently down from 25 after safety modifications from last year!  And that doesn’t include the lightning team, people for the interactive experiences, sound, or projections. It was interesting being part of the camp and experiencing people not always understanding that the plane wasn't open, or required staff to man safely.  The plane was open many afternoons, and every night, the main times I saw it closed to the public was for a few hours during dinner for people to get dressed and eat, and for thursday night’s camp dinner until 10pm.  I didn't see any "VIP" wrist bands, and I think this was a misunderstanding. The camp had “crew” wristbands to get on/off for work. I think some mistakenly thought they saw VIPs going on when they were told it was closed. What I saw was a very hardworking camp, determined to bring a large scale experience to the playa, and hoping people saw through some of the falsehoods. And I really admire how they rolled with the trolling. Accused of “VIP” bands, they made a “VIP wristband line” for people to wait in line to go up. I thought they did a really great job, and so glad creating this epic photo with @navaks #fireBreather #BurningMan (at Burning Man) https://www.instagram.com/p/B27vB-UhHxm/?igshid=1rd99gawha6r8

Wow Wee One Week in Copenhagen!
I can’t believe I’ve already been here a week. Met some pretty cool people, some locals and some not.  Here’s the rundown:
Tuesday
Started the day by going to Hans Christian Andersen’s graves site followed by a Free Walking Tour.  It was three hours of learning about the history of Copenhagen with lots of architecture and food tidbits thrown in there. The guide sent us on our way with lots of museums and other spots to check out. After the tour I went inside Frederik’s Church, the largest dome in Scandinavia. Then I met, Flavia, a friend of my mom’s for a lemonade and typical Danish pastry, which was brought over by the Austrians when the Danish bakers went on strike. Then I walked around the  Strøget shopping area, followed by the Ny Carlsberg Glptotek, which was a museum filled with sculptures and famous paintings by Monet and it was free thanks to the tour guide’s tip! In the evening, I went on a Pub Crawl.
Wednesday
I started the day at Torvehallerne Food Hall, which is two buildings full of food stands.  A highly recommended duck sandwich made for a delicious outdoor lunch. Then I went up the famous Round Tower or Rundetaarn.  There’s stairs at the very top, but you get a 360 degree view of the city from city center. Then I went onto another free museum, Thorvaldsens Museum. Thorvaldsen was a Danish sculptor who lived in Rome for most of his life and donated his collection to Denmark. Next, it was time to move from my hostel in to my couchsurfing host, Søren, who lives on the other end of town. We chatted for a bit before I was invited to a salsa dancing class. Let’s just say, some people are better dancers than me.
Thursday
Went to the Changing of the Guards ceremony at Amalienborg Castle and then enjoyed a typical street food lunch of a hot dog and chocolate milk.  I walked from there to the very well-known freetown of  Christiania. There’s a lot of history there as hippies took over the former military base in the 1970′s. The gangs now openly sell weed on Pusher Street. Photography is strictly forbidden, as weed is still illegal in Denmark. The Christiania bikes also originated in this area as a way of moving furniture and other items around as cars are also not allowed. I ended up hanging out at Island Brygge Harbor area enjoying people watching before going back to my host’s place. He shared one of his homemade beers and then we enjoyed a local ice cream shop, Ismageriet.  He translated the whole menu for me, but I settled on Rhubarb Sorbet and Nutella & Cookies with “guf” a meringue topping.
Friday
I moved within Copenhagen again to another hostel! Although it wasn’t ideal to move so much, this hostel was in the middle of city center, so it made it ideal for doing everything else on my list. Close by was the Rosenborg Castle, which houses the crown jewels and the Botanical Gardens. I spent much of the afternoon people watching on Dronning Louise Bro (Queen Louise Bridge) enjoying a beer, which is legal throughout the streets of Copenhagen.  Then I tried these fermented fries from Brus, a brewpub recommendation from my host. Then wayyyy on the other side of city center, I met a fellow traveler for Aperol Spritz on the other side of a pedestrian bridge called the Kissing Bridge.
Saturday
I finally rented a bike! I went up to Reffen, a shipping container made food market and enjoyed watching the people go into the music festival, Copenhell.  Then I biked down to Fredriksberg to try a bakery, Hart Bageri, where lots of cool ideas came to me :) Next, I went to the Christiania Free Walking Tour, which covers a much larger area than just the freetown.  Along the way, I met Sandra, who might just be my tour guide in Vienna in a few weeks! We walked around Christiania after the tour then I went into Nørrebro to walk around and enjoy a beer.
Sunday
A fellow couchsurfer, Mikaela had messaged me before I even left the States about meeting up in Copenhagen. She invited me to spend the whole day with her, which started with a pastry breakfast along the water in Nyhavn (the picturesque harbor in Copenhagen) then we walked around the city before going to Hillsong Church, because why not? The church has lots of branches all over the world, but the service was in English followed by a reception after with a very friendly bunch of people. We walked from there to the Playhouse and sat outside for a bit before going on a canal tour.  Then we picked up a couple beers and sausages at the grocery store and brought them to Mikaela’s Danish friends on their boat in the harbor. They planned on barbecuing and watching the Midsommar witch burning aka bonfire from their boat. We grilled our sausages on their grill and then hung out with these two 73-year-old guys, Søren and Jimmy and their other boat friends. They were actually the ones in charge of the witch burning, having created the bonfire earlier in the day, staging the iron floating dock in the middle of the canal, and then finally lighting it on fire after the sunset around 10pm.  Mikaela and I stayed there until almost 11pm watching the bonfire before parting ways.  It was an incredible end to my week here.
Monday
With very little left on my list to-do, I enjoyed a pastry at the famous La Glace bakery and am now sitting in the Grand Library with it’s new addition of the Black Diamond. Fun fact: In the 1970′s one of the librarians stole some of the very rare and expensive books from the library’s collection and sold them on the black market. The librarian died before getting caught, but his children were less careful selling the books on the black market and are now serving jail time! With one thing left on my "Live like a Local" list from my host, I went over to Island Brygge to lay out in the sun and jump in the canal. It was so cold! I warmed up quickly in the sun and then went to Kanal Caffe for a late lunch of smørrebrød. It’s an open faced sandwich made of a dark rye-like bread with various toppings like smoked fish, egg, or herring. I had mine with pickled herring. In the future, I'd get it with another fish I know I like more. After hanging out in the hostel, I met Alex and Sristi. We chatted for a while and then met more travelers and went out dancing at a tequila bar. Not a bad way to end things in Denmark!

Fall Fusion 2019 (ABC)
Tumblr media
In another month, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW are slated to unveil their primetime rosters for the 2019-20 network television season.  Adding an unprecedented complication, this year, is the unresolved standoff between the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and ATA (Association of Talent Agents).
NBC and Fox announce their fall schedules on May 13, followed by ABC on May 14 and CBS on May 15.  Bringing up the rear will be The CW on May 16.
The “bubble shows” for this season, which most likely won’t know their fates until May:  Blindspot, The Village, The Enemy Within, Manifest, A.P. Bio, and I Feel Bad on NBC; For The People, Whiskey Cavalier, The Fix, Single Parents, and The Kids Are Alright on ABC; Madam Secretary, Bull, Ransom, Instinct, Life in Pieces, Murphy Brown, FAM, and Happy Together on CBS; The 100, All-American, Roswell New Mexico, and In the Dark on The CW; and Lethal Weapon, The Gifted, The Orville, The Passage, Proven Innocent, and REL on Fox.
Tumblr media
So, as I’ve been doing for the past several years, here is the roster I have dreamed up for the broadcast networks when the Big Five trot out their autumn slates in a few weeks.  I also include potential backup plans for the spring months, depending on which TV series fail or succeed.
When a show is picked up for the fall, it usually gets a 13-episode order – which can then be extended (usually via a “Back-Nine” order), if the show performs well enough.  Some freshmen series fall short of receiving a full 22 episodes (usually with an 16- or 18-episode order).  If the show stays far enough above the network’s average in terms of ratings and demos (the estimated number of viewers between the ages of 18-49, who are coveted by advertisers), it will most likely return for the following season.
As for the series that are held over to be midseason replacements:  they usually get 13-episode orders, as well.  Sometimes, a program that looks like more of a gamble might only get picked up for 6, 8, or 10 episodes instead.  If those shows attain a significant audience when they step in to fill gaps anytime between November and May, they may also find themselves on the next fall schedule.
There are yet other TV series that are intended to be “limited series” or an “event series” – airing for a finite period of time during one predetermined juncture of the year – similar to many original cable television shows intentionally designed with shorter runs.  Fox and The CW have gradually transitioned to more of a year-round format for their programming, and ABC, CBS, and NBC should follow suit over the next two or three years.  For this reason, we may see more of the broadcast networks “time-sharing” different programs within the same time slots as they transition from winter to spring to summer and back to autumn.
After all, there are a limited number of available time slots on the primetime schedule.  With the frequency of limited-run “event programming,” we should expect to see less of the traditional model where one solitary series occupies one specific time slot for nine months of original programming (followed by three months of reruns).
Tumblr media
(All times are Eastern/Pacific; subtract one hour for the Central/Mountain time zones)
(New shows highlighted in bold)
Featured network for today’s column…
ABC
Sunday
7:00 – AFHV
8:00 – Until the Wedding (with possible Back-Nine) / American Idol (spring)
9:00 – A Million Little Things (Sep.-March) / American Idol (spring)
10:00 –  The Time It Takes (fall/winter) / The Hypnotist’s Love Story (spring)
Until the Wedding (based on an Israeli-based serial of the same name) – which stars Olivia Thirlby of Juno fame – would be a good counterprogramming alternative to Supergirl, God Friended Me, and football; it would also be compatible with A Million Little Things, which could be searching for a new night to which it may relocate.  The sleepy 10pm slot should go to British game show import The Time it Takes (hosted by Craig Ferguson).
Once American Idol returns in the spring, its lead-out could be The Hypnotist’s Love Story, a high-profile Heather Graham-led romantic drama (which seems to be the type of show that might return for shorter seasons of 13 episodes each season).
Tumblr media
Monday
8:00 – Dancing with the Stars (fall) / The Bachelor (winter) / American Idol (spring)
10:00 – The Good Doctor (fall/winter) / Heart of Life (spring)
ABC will probably want to keep The Good Doctor firmly planted after Dancing with the Stars, to help build it up to someday move over as a Thursday night lead-off (once Grey’s Anatomy eventually retires).  When The Good Doctor finishes up its 18-episode run, it can be replaced midseason by Heart of Life – an ensemble family serial featuring Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Jessica Stroup (90210), Katie Findlay (The Carrie Diaries), and Harry Shum Jr. (Glee).
Tumblr media
Tuesday
8:00 – The Connors (Sep.-Jan.) / American Housewife (Feb.-May)
8:30 – Nana (with possible Back-Nine) / United We Fall (spring)
9:00 – Blackish
9:30 – American Housewife (Sep.-Jan.) / Rainbowish (Feb.-May)
10:00 – The Rookie (Sep.-Apr.) / NYPD Blue (spring)
With the spinoff success of The Connors, Katey Sagal’s new family sitcom Nana would be a great fit in-between The Connors and Blackish, with American Housewife bringing up the rear.  Midseason, when American Housewife most likely leads off the night after The Connors finishes airing its second season of 13-16 episodes, the rumored Blackish prequel focusing on Rainbow Johnson should get a tryout behind its mothership series (I’d call the spinoff Rainbowish, as I assume it will feature regular voiceovers by Tracee Ellis Ross).
In the event that Nana flops, the Jane Curtin-led sitcom United We Fall would be waiting in the wings.  If The Rookie has a shorter order of 18-20 episodes, the long-awaited sequel/revival to NYPD Blue could clock in for a 10-episode run (possibly even premiering during May Sweeps and running into the summer) in its original time slot from the 1990s.
Tumblr media
Wednesday
8:00 – The Goldbergs
8:30 – Schooled
9:00 – Modern Family
9:30 – Hannah (with possible Back-Nine) / Happy Accident (spring)
10:00 – Triangle (with possible Back-Nine)
Supernatural mystery Triangle starring Mike Vogel (Under the Dome, The Brave) is a show I’m personally excited for...and it deserves a high-profile time slot during the most prominent juncture of the season.  If Triangle was to fail or not receive a full back-order, a different one-hour drama could be subbed in here during the back-half of the season.
Now that Modern Family has officially announced its final season, ABC should utilize the post-Modern Family time slot to its fullest while it still exists.  Hannah Simone’s (New Girl) buzzworthy single-camera comedy would be the strongest contender to premiere here.  As a midseason replacement, Happy Accident (an offbeat family comedy led by Vanessa Williams and Matt Walsh) can be on deck.
Tumblr media
Thursday
8:00 – Grey’s Anatomy
9:00 – Station 19
10:00 – How to Get Away with Murder (Sep.-Feb.) / New York Undercover (March-June)
I’d pretty much leave Shondaland Thursdays as is, for as long as ABC can utilize the Netflix-relocated showrunner’s remaining Disney-owned brainchildren.  How to Get Away with Murder would presumably finish up its 15-episode abridged Season 6 in late-February or early-March, at which point the sequel to Fox’s 1994-98 cop drama New York Undercover can premiere following Station 19.
Tumblr media
Friday
8:00 – Fresh Off The Boat
8:30 – Speechless
9:00 – Shark Tank
10:00 – 20/20
Since Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless have stabilized in their newfound one-hour Friday berth, they can probably safely remain their for another season.
MIDSEASON:  American Idol (13-16 episodes), Match Game (16-22 episodes), To Tell the Truth (16-22 episodes), $100,000 Pyramid (16-22 episodes), The Bachelor (13 episodes), Happy Accident (8 episodes), Rainbowish (13 episodes), New York Undercover (10 episodes), NYPD Blue (10 episodes), The Hypnotist’s Love Story (10 episodes), Heart of Life (13 episodes)

Recommended Listening February 2018
dearest all,
i hope you're weathering the weather. it's certainly weathering me. here's hoping we weather together.
as always i have some concerts coming up (2 concerts by my band double double!!) and some other (not me) music recs for those who may be interested.
first, i've been more or less obsessed with the following (most of which haven't even been released yet).
Wadada Leo Smith America's National Parks ::
whyyyyyy Wadada why are you so good?? my favorite trumpet sound in the world and one of my most favorite approaches to organizing sound compositionally and also such a brilliant bringer-together of the most perfect artists for the music. this album is often deceptively stark while still grooving like crazy and setting off a "grandpa on the roof with a pvc pipe" type of fireworks display in my chest and guts.
also, Cuneiform, the label that released this album 18 months ago has announced that they won't be putting out any new music in 2018. because nobody is buying stuff. LET'S FIX THAT SHALL WE.
Jean Rohe ::
Jean's pledgemusic campaign is wrapping up (like in the next couple hours) and i can't believe i didn't send this message earlier. click the link to go preorder her record. i'm on it. but honestly who cares? Jean is just the greatest. and that's enough. unbelievable voice, incomparable storyteller, clever and funky and deeply moving songwriter. all this adds up to 100 as far as i'm concerned. BUT WAIT there's more. her commitment to social justice and the spread of joy and love and understanding is central to her music and her life ... i cry at literally every one of her concerts. click the link. buy the thing.
Subtle Degrees A Dance That Empties ::
i've spent a lot of time with Travis Laplante over the past few years. he's tireless in his pursuit of healing the world both through music and ancient eastern healing practices. i guess he decided he didn't have quite enough going on so he composed and learned to play the single most insane and impossibly moving and impossibly difficult piece of saxophone music i've ever heard anyone even attempt. this record comes out February 23 and features Travis duo with Gerald Cleaver, who is the best drummer. just the best. sweet christ. get this in your life immediately.
their record release show is at Union Pool on March 4. cancel everything. go to it. NOT JOKING.
Erica Eso 129 Dreamless GMG ::
Weston Minissali and company have been doing this for a couple years and it's crystalized into the most awesome groovy gliss-synth un-pop-rock. their new record comes out on NNA Tapes on March 16 (clicky above) and their teaser track Gun-metal Grey makes me feel like i'm dancing with Sade in a lucid fever dream. they're touring, too. clickety click click.
OH HEY I HAVE SOME GIGS THEY WILL BE SO SO GREAT PLEASE COME.
///////
Wednesday, February 7
9pm
Gay Witch Séance
at Otto's Shrunken Head
538 East 14th Street. NYC.
our dear pals Charlotte Moroz and Leigh Walter have been organizing i-don't-know-whats at Otto's once a month for the past little while and it's always different and these women are brilliant and hilarious and so totally awesome that whatever they touch will be great. so i'm especially pleased that they asked me to be a part of the (friggin LARGE) drone ensemble and also to perform a very miniature solo thing.
certain other rites of healing passage will take place including tarot, palm reading, and (to be administered by Jamie Agnello) consensual hand-holding.
click. come. https://www.facebook.com/events/181799469103560/
///////
Thursday, February 15
Double Double
8pm
AE Randolph Series
at Balboa
1655 Bedford Ave. Brooklyn
AN ODD THURSDAY INSTALLMENT of this stalwart series.
8pm :: secret solo set
8:30pm :: Dustin Carlson solo guitar etc
9:15pm ::
Double Double
Lester St Louis - cello
Adam Hopkins - bass
Flin van Hemmen - drums / percussion
PB - tenor saxophone
we premiered this piece at balboa a few months back and it's one of my most favorite things i've written. so i'm doing it again. i've added a few little somethings that i think make it even more me and more ... favorite.
///////
Saturday, February 17
Double Double
10pm
at Legion
790 Metropolitan Ave. Brooklyn.
10pm ::
Double Double
Lester St Louis - cello
Nick Dunston - bass
Flin van Hemmen - drums / percussion
PB - tenor saxophone
later: Mughal Muesli
same piece of music. different bass player. i'm incredibly blessed to be surrounded by amazing bassists who want to play this music. adam (thursday gig) is an old pal and has given way more to this music than i've ever asked him to. nick is a new pal and is already doing the same. i can't wait to explore these sounds with the best people. even more favorite!
love to you all. happy listening. see you out there.

Michael Myers is back in Haddonfield! Or, more precisely, Welcome to Haddonfield is back at the SugaryMynt Gallery. The third annual Halloween-themed exhibition at SugarMynt features artwork and photographs related to horror movies, the October season, and the Halloween film franchise. This is entirely appropriate when you know that the gallery is located next door to the house immortalized in the opening sequence of John Carpenter’s original Halloween (1978), which introduced the masked boogeyman Michael Myers to the silver screen.
Located in a quite neighborhood around the corner from some cool coffee houses, SugarMynt is a reconverted house that serves quite nicely as a small gallery. The exterior is decorated like a yard haunt, but the real sights are inside. The artwork ranges from expensive originals, created specifically for the exhibition, to more affordable decorative items.
The Shape by Chet Zar (Framed Oil on Linen, 18″ by 21″). $2,500.
Welcome to Haddonfield II* showcases behind-the-scenes photographs by Kim Gottlieb-Walker and several paintings inspired by the film. The photos are perhaps of most interest to film fans and cinema collectors, but the original artwork is impressive enough to stand on its own merits regardless of its connection to the film. Prices range from several hundred dollars to $2,500 for Chet Zar’s ominous oil on linen, “The Shape.”
If those numbers threaten to break your bank account, Welcome to Haddonfield II is also featuring some very reasonable priced reproductions of concept art for the film Hocus Pocus (1993), starring Bette Midler, about a trio of Salem witches resurrected in modern times. Giacamo Ghiazza’s moody pre-production illustrations suggest a far spookier film than the goofy comedy that ultimately emerged. We were particularly taken by poignant image of a group of Puritans dumping a witch’s body into a grave, seen from a distance, while a black cat, presumably the witch’s familiar, watches silently atop a fence in the foreground. These reproductions go for $25-$55, depending on whether they are purchased framed or unframed.
Halloween and Hocus Pous are the headliners of  Welcome to Haddonfield II, but they represent only a fraction of the exhibition. There are many delightfully creepy stencils, miniatures, dishes, and decorations on display. Our favorites were the small pieces that serve double duty as artworks and clothes hooks – yes, you can hang your coat from an illustration of Frankenstein (1931), The Black Cat (1934), or The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954).
Whether or not you know nothing about art, if you are a fan of the Halloween season, you are bound to find some interesting treats at Welcome to Haddonfield II. The less expensive items could serve well as decor for a Halloween party or home haunt. The more expensive work is for serious collectors who want something worth hanging on their walls year-round. But even if you’re not in the market for original art, Welcome to Haddonfield II is worth a visit just to browse.
Footnote:
If you’re wondering why SugarMynt’s third Halloween exhibition is named “Welcome to Haddonfield II” instead of “III,” here’s the reason: The first year, the event was titled “No Beauty Without Strangeness: A Halloween Exhibition.”
“Welcome to Haddonfield II” runs weekly except Mondays through October 31st. Hours are 12-5pm on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 12-8pm on Thursdays, 12-10pm on Fridays & Saturdays, 12-7pm on Sundays. Admission is $5. SugarMynt is located at 810 Meridian Avenue  in South Pasadena, CA. It is conveniently located near the South Pasadena stop of the Metro Gold Line.
Check out images from the exhibition below:

Aaron Kai’s oil-on-canvas “The Devil’s Eyes” (center) goes for $1,750.
